Prisca Hart is an American girl with a small, mousy build. Her posture is terrible, her back is nearly always slumped, and the girl has much difficulty in looking others in the eye, especially when being spoken to. The girl is timid like a cat and this is obvious in her avoidant body language and the way she always leans away from others, or dodges their gaze. Otherwise, she is quite forgettable, her hair is nothing special, just cut short with a morose black color that only makes her appear even more meek. On a normal glance her eyes appear to be a pale blue but looking right at them would reveal the true stone grey hue of her irises.

In terms of curves, Prisca doesn't have much, her hips are narrow and her waist even more so. Her chest might be her only redeeming value, erring on the smaller side of average, but not horribly flat either. Upon a cursory glance it's common to think of her as cute, quiet, and hard to talk to, not having an approachable aura at all, unlike some other girls. Even her clothing doesn't help, preferring to robe herself in mostly black with bits of white to highlight the outfit, simple above-the-knee skirts and blouses.

"The end of days has come, as foretold by the Book of Revelations!"

That was the mantra everyone in America was lambasted with ever since the light bearers were discovered. The Catholics used light bearers in America as proof of holy powers, turning even those that refused to believe. Resources were dwindling, and the Hart family, distantly related to the main branch of the Ray family, was one of those that were against the use of light bearers in war. As light bearers were forcibly discovered and then shipped off for experimentation and training, even young children, more and more people began to try to rebel. But those in power, they saw the merit of these powers, using abilities not even guns could keep up with. This kind of advantage, why not try to press it? Japan wasn't the only one dealing with tyranny, America's Shoku was a certain man known as Roger Cross, and he held control tightly, abolishing elections under threat of the light bearers under his control.

War was most definitely brewing on the horizon. And so the higher ups decided to instill martial law to keep it's civilians under control as a response to insurgent activity in which rebels tried to attack light bearing facilities. It was kind of world where twin sisters Prisca and Essie grew up in, a harsh, frightening, and dangerous world.

First was the household issues. Essie, she was always a stunningly beautiful over achiever, charming and friendly, there was no one who didn't love her. Her shadow was Prisca, a shy quiet meek girl that while was liked, was clearly nowhere near as confident as the radiant Essie. The two girls were incredibly close throughout their lives, pledging each other as the other's most important, and with justified reason, of course. Their parents often fought - Harley Ray wanted to move to Japan and take in the newly orphaned Damian, to fulfill their duty as members of Sanctum, but Jared was always against the idea of introducing their children to the shadow war between Prometheus and Sanctum. With all the fighting, Prisca and Essie had no choice but to cling to one another for solace in their troubled younger days.

"Our sisterly love will last as long as this plastic rose lives!"

When the girls hit high school, their homeroom teacher, Patricia Burns, was impressed by their natural abilities and offered them invitations to the library school club. Needless to say, this club had nothing to do with libraries and everything to do with the spread of newly banned prohibited information, trying to teach and promote free speech and the idea of a world without war. Both girls were happy to learn and exchange these banned books with the other members of the Library Club, they felt as if this was their hope in a dangerous world where one wrong word would send black vans to your house to take you away, never to be seen again. Naturally, Essie befriended one of the more well read boys in the club, Callum Riggs, smart, clever, and darkly humorous, Prisca had a bad idea about him from the start. Yet one could say it was true love at first sight for Callum and Essie.

Life at home escalated of course with the finding that father returned home one night smelling like another woman's perfume. Harley Ray, who could no longer deal with all the troubles, decided that he was a bad influence on the house and reported him for sympathizing with the rebels. Jared Hart was taken away, never to be seen by his daughters again. A clever way to make someone disappear. So when the delinquent Callum kept trying to get Essie involved in actual vigilantism, to join the Freedom Fighters even if either sister was a light bearer, Prisca was always worried. Essie would always go to the fights, to help free the captive light bearers, and Prisca always feared that eventually, Essie would be caught, and worse, killed. And no matter how many times the sisters argued, Essie had already fallen in love with Callum, it was too late to convince her to stay away. Learning from her mother's path, Prisca decided to make her own decision, and became the snitch, ratting him out to the officials.

Needless to say, things got worse from here. Under torture, Callum revealed all about the Freedom Fighters trying to retake America and make it a democracy again, as well as the Library Club at the high school. A list of names was made, and then black vans came to take everyone away. Parents were shot trying to protect their children, a certain Hime used her influence to break Callum out and have him escape to Europe safely, but no one else managed to get away. Everyone involved was gathered in a room, and one by one they were suffocated with bags over their heads. Essie looked to Prisca before her bag was delivered, and one word was mouthed. Traitor. And naturally, Prisca was spared at the very end, allowed to live because she served her patriotic duty well. Her reward was to be made an experiment, to become an artificial light bearer to continue serving her country.

Prisca became a Martyr then, the first successful American-made light bearer. And with her new ability, she herself was turned into a child soldier, to fight for the country that stole everything away. Worst of all, she wasn't even allowed to die, the scientists all made sure that she never had the chance to end it all. This wasn't a reward at all, but a punishment, for snitching out everyone. Oddly enough, this act cemented America as a major power to stand against the New Japan's might after Emperor Ira Shoku defeated the Freedom Fighters and the HIVE. The two became the centerpieces of the war, and entire cities were turned into ruin as light bearers clashed with light bearers. In the end, the Yui of prophecy did something, breaking out of Shoku's control and in that final battle, she rained death down into the entire world, reducing everything to nothingness.

As for Prisca? Well, she found a certain girl during the final battle, going as Nemesis, one of the strongest under Shoku's power.. Prisca didn't stand a chance, she was going to join the dead very soon, keeping only a childhood keepsake, a reminder of her dead sister, the plastic rose. She was terrified yet also eager for a chance to apologize, and maybe she would have gotten it too, at least, if it wasn't for a fragment of the Goddess finding her and binding her soul to the rose in preparation for a new conflict...

"What's going on, why don't we have Group C's flag?" One person asked in a panic. The other shook their heads, wringing their hands. "Someone else got it first, they used us as a distraction and took it before we could do anything." The other said, gritting their teeth. "Group B's just a bunch of newbies, it had to be A that did it." Group D was in confusion, they put all their bets on stealing C's flag and then winning, they didn't expect someone else to swoop in and steal it so easily. "We need to focus on taking out Group A if we want the reward!" A lot of their people were still in C's jail, so D was in trouble now, they needed to act, because both jailbreaks were already called, there would be no more miracles unless someone could rescue them.

But D had a chance, they knew they could win if they were careful. "Well, we have most of Group B in our jail already." Other than Lise, they managed to bait B's attack team with the open flag and trick them in, and Lise Windsor was the only one fast enough to get away. Alone though, she wouldn't be able to get the flag, nor break them out, D was being very careful now. "So if we can focus our efforts on attacking A, we'll win." Someone grit their teeth from the jail circle, yelling. "Lise will save us!" He cried. "You can't keep us here!" The older members of Group D chuckled dismissively. "Newbie, half of your class is here, your puny Group B is already out of the running, even with a member of the Elite Four and your Three Princesses, you've got no chance."

But then something unexpected happened, someone jumped out from the bush, it was Lise, of course. "I'm of the Elite Four, you won't catch me!" She declared and sprinted right for the flag, ignoring the jail completely. If she was fast enough, she'd be able to avoid everyone and bring it back safely. "Catch her!" Someone shouted it. "We can't let our flag be taken!" One of course stayed back to guard the jail, but he was uneasy now, as the tiny little blonde grabbed the flag and dashed as quickly as she could. And that was when another figure jumped out, something that they couldn't have expected. "Wait, we counted, Lise didn't have anymore with her!" He yelled, as Cyrus ran. "I'll save you, I'll get you all out of jail!" He yelled, he tried to get past the warden but he was being blocked. Cyrus grit his teeth and ran the other way, and the warden gave chase, tricked into beieving he was the only rescuer.

The Ice Princess calmly walked to the circle and clapped hands with one, starting the long mission of tagging and escorting one by one. "Let's go home." She whispered, winking. "One by one." Cyrus gave himself up to be captured and put in the newly empty jail, Lise was happily waving the flag at the border of Group B's territory. "I'll show this to Emma, good work on saving everyone, Irina!" They had three flags now, all the flags, as long as they focused on defending for the last half hour, they would win. "Hope you weren't bored, Emma." Irina smirked as she spotted her tree, hoping Cyrus wasn't lonely in jail alone.

Emma grinned, seeing Lise run towards the border with the flag. They won! Or, practically did at least. There were still twenty minutes left of the game and with Team A blockading their defenses, there was no way that they could lose. So long as they focused on getting every opponent that crossed the border, they would be unbeatable. "Ah, just a little bit longer, keep it up everyone." Emma whispered encouragingly. Her job was practically over, with the entire time having returned to their defenses and linked the way they were around the river, no one would be able to get in or out. They couldn't come up from behind either, since that was where the boundaries ended, unless they were cheating. A storm had arrived, there were two teams against one, but so long as they held formation no one would be able to get through. Emma shimmied higher up in the tree, just in case.

They had brought the thunder and lightning, by the time Emma blinked, the storm was gone, the road to victory cleared. When the timer rang, she jumped out of the tree and into the river, retrieving all three flags. "It looks like our winner is Group B," someone's jaw dropped. Emma squealed in delight, waving the flags in the air. Emma was suddenly lifted onto someone's shoulders and she squealed, nearly dropping the flags. "Wait, shouldn't Lise be the one up here?" Lise too, was lifted up, Group B celebrating as they presented the flags to the Conductors. Emma waved at Irina, pumping her fist into the air. It was with much surprise that their success was announced. "The winning team is Group B!" Applause rang loud in the air, Emma was so happy that she was here to take part in this.

When she finally got off of her teammate's shoulders, Emma ran towards Lise and Irina to give them a hug. "I can't believe we actually won," the odds had been stacked against them, now to hear their prize. "The winning team will receive late wake up tomorrow." That was a relief, Emma was sick of waking up so early. "Let's hit the showers, I'm freezing," Emma was shivering rather badly, she was all wet and the night air was only going to get colder. The walk back towards their bunker was one of much chatter. There was no silent air of disappointment like the other three groups. "It's strange, but I think Roz was right. We're becoming one big family, one that I'm glad to be part of." Emma smiled, happy she had been given this opportunity. She had great news to report to Irina once the weekend came and they were alone to plot.

As much as Emma was enjoying herself, there was, of course, a sense of homesickness that came with it. She missed her family, her friends, her bedroom, waking up late, eating her Mother's food, and her bitter rabbit plush. Emma missed the sunny boating days, the winter snow, the World Tree, but she had to suck it up. She had to be Emma Winter, not Miiko Miya and Emma Winter had already lost her first family. She had to be as brave as Sam and as strong as Rose.

Whatever that important thing was that Miiko needed to tell Prisca, they never got a chance because Lise followed them everywhere, they never got a chance to be alone, not even in the showers that night. Throughout the next day Irina noticed Miiko's attempts to be alone with her but it was impossible to shake Lise off. Then, of course, there was an incident, a matter of pride between Groups. "Hey, you're the strategist of Group B, aren't you?" One of the big boys, with two of his mates, were cornering Jonah in the hallway on his way back to class from the bathroom. Most of it was just studying past battles in the history books today, there wasn't much moving around this time. "Yes, but it was a team effort, we all did great." Jonah smiled, but the boys from Group C, they were humiliated, they wanted to win, but because of this strategist, they couldn't.

"We want to have a talk with you." They grabbed his arms and dragged him off somewhere else.

Hours later, Jonah still never returned from the bathroom, and Irina was slightly but not too worried. "I heard there's a surprise waiting for us this afternoon, for our last class." Irina was a little bit excited, rarely did Conductor Roz prepare surprises. He went out to go look for Jonah who still hadn't come back. Lise didn't seem to bothered by the surprise. "At the end of every first week, it's always the same." She yawned, flapping her arm. Everyone was given a piece of paper with someone else's name, Emma's paper was Jonah's, and Irina and Lise got one another. What it was for, the ice princess had no idea. "Just look forward to it, I think you'll like it."

Roz muttered something under his breath but then waved the class to follow him. And then they were here, back at the gym, with mats and everything, fourteen of them, one for each assigned pair. "Today is the first day of combat practice! I've handed out names, that's your partner for this next exercise!" He barked like a loud military dog, and Irina grinned, she was excited to face off with Lise, even if she had a feeling she was going to lose. "Wait, but, Jonah, he still didn't come back yet?" One of the boys snickered. "Probably having a long diarrhea." That earned a few chuckles from the crowd.

Conductor Roz didn't fund that funny, however. "Emma, where is your sparring partner?" He demanded, slamming his foot on the mat Emma was assigned to. "Jonah Underhill still hasn't returned!" No one had any idea, he was nowhere to be found. "He's been gone all day, but he isn't the type to desert." Lise frowned, shaking her head. "Someone like him, he's not a coward that would run away, something must have happened." Irina glanced at Roz, having a bad feeling, but Cyrus spoke first. "Conductor, we're family, we need to find him." His expression darkened. "I feel something bad might've happened."

|| Stand By Me|| Florence and the Machine ||

"Jonah?" It was just then that Emma noticed he wasn't in class and considering he was the one that was supposed to be sparring with her, it was more than a little bit of an issue. "Where did he go?" Conductor Roz would have liked to know that too. "We're going to split up," he said, sounding rather calm despite the fact that a student was missing. "I'm going to alert campus police, we'll be splitting up to search for him. Lise, you're with me," as tragic as it was, Emma realized that this was her opportunity to get Irina on her own. "Irina, I'd like you and Cyrus to team up," Emma's shoulders slumped. "E-excuse me Sir," Emma said, attempting to sound her most respectful. "Do-do you think Irina and I could-could be buddies?" Roz considered it, "Fine, Cyrus, you team up with Hanson. Come on," he paired up the others and sent them each in a different direction. Emma and Irina were to check the fields where they had played capture the flag.

Outside in the open, Emma knew that on this field they would be able to speak freely. "I overheard a conversation between two in our class," Emma began, wondering how to word it while they searched for Jonah, who was MIA. He was so happy to be here, Emma wouldn't be able to believe that he had just defected or disappeared. "They want to go to Ondern," because they didn't know of Yavin, no one did unless they were within the rebellion. "I think we should reach out," only inconspicuously of course. "Maybe we could be of help?" Of course, anyone could interpret that as wanting to change their minds and Emma was incredibly careful not to mention who the students in question were. "I can't wait to go to Sam's this weekend and sleep in, it's such hard work learning to be a soldier. I want to do it, I hope I can be as good as you and Lise."

They had reached the edge of Group A's territory and had yet to come across Jonah. "I hope he's okay, I'm worried about him." The two of them were making their way back towards the entrance of the building now. "We found him!" Someone called and Emma shared a glance with Irina, the two of them sprinting back towards the building. "Is Jonah okay?" Emma asked, following them back towards where their group was crowded outside of the infirmary. When Jonah caught sight of them he grinned and gave a thumbs up, "Thanks for worrying about me guys," he sighed, looking bloody and bruised. "Who did this to you?" Captain Roz pushed them out, "alright, take ten, go to the gym and start doing warm ups!"

Emma sighed in relief, "I'm so glad they found him, where was he?" Cyrus caught up to them, looking perturbed. "Locked in a closet, someone had beat him up and gagged him," Emma gasped in horror. "Why would they do such a thing?" By now they were heading into the gym where they would be doing their warm ups. Emma would have to practice alone, without a sparring partner.

Irina was quiet, Jonah was missing, it seemed. It could be that he was just in the loo for a long time, but it's been hours, he would have tried to tell them somehow about the problem. Did that mean foul play was in effect here? It was hard to tell. Cyrus was worried, funny because he used to hate the scrawny nerd back in the General Education Facility. "We need to find him." Jonah was a smart kid, he was one of the ones she wanted to bring back home to Yavin! As a prospective defection, he needed to be protected! "Tch, we'll find him, don't worry." Lise said, following Conductor Roz, since she probably was as familiar with the Military Academy's layout as Roz was, no doubt they would find all the little nooks and crannies.

Emma came up with the sneaky strategy to find a chance to talk privately with Irina. They were both confident that everyone else would be able to find Jonah - there were twenty-six of them searching if you counted Conductor Roz, and the Academy wasn't that big or anything."What is it that you've tried to tell me all day?" Irina smiled, and then she nodded, listening carefully. "What if we invited them over to Sam's house for the weekend?" Doing that, they'd be able to get the message across without worry. "It's risky, though." If it was a trap, it would easily out their identities as Rebels and then they'd need to escape and return home in shame for failing the mission... or worse, be captured and either tortured or executed depending on the crime. "Let's not out ourselves to anyone yet." Perhaps later, but not just yet. They needed to discuss with with Sam before coming to a conclusion.

Apparently they found Jonah, both Emma and Irina following the shouting, he was beaten black and blue and even so not even the slightest bit of fear was on him. He was just smiling mindlessly, as if it didn't bother him at all. "Jealous, maybe." Lise shrugged unhappily as they carried Jonah off to the infirmary to be fixed up as best as they could. "Jonah's a smartie, he won the contest for us, so the people got jealous because they wanted to win." That made sense, Irina could see that happening. It must be a blow to the pride to lose to the newbies that still didn't know anything about strategy yet, right? "Go back to the Gym, we have combat practice!" Conductor Roz barked like a dog and like rats, they all scurried back to their places, Emma having to work alone. "Emma, I'll train with you once I come back after delivering Jonah!" Well, that looked solved, then, didn't it?

So now it was Irina against Lise on the mat. Both of them strong, one of them stronger. "I won't go easy on you just because you're little." Irina flashed a smile, her peerless white ponytail almost glistening as she stood, fists ready. Lise was just as calm, almost bouncing on the heels of her feet, she was ready. "I'm the Ace for a reason, so please don't expect to win, okay?" And so a fierce battle of blocks, parries, and jabs began, with no one getting the upper hand until Roz returned and clapped them both on the heads. "We're practicing basic grappling techniques today, not a full out fight!" He interrupted, breaking them up.

Friday morning was filled with nervous energy, everyone was excited for the chance to return home. No one would admit it outright, but everyone here was looking forward to go back and see their families and school friends again, to be back in a familiar environment where they felt comfortable and safe. Irina hadn't had a home in a hundred years so for her it wasn't as much of a problem. "I'm still at number four." Irina said with a half smile. As long as she played the role of Irina she wouldn't have to stutter, she wouldn't have to go back to being her old detestable Prisca self. "Work hard to surpass me, okay, Emma?" Cyrus was at two and someone else was three, but Irina was confident she could beat them eventually.

Time went by slowly, and everyone, even the one that punched Jonah in the beginning, was happy to see their little strategist return. "This guy, man, he's a hero." The bully said, lifting Jonah up easily into the air, making the bespectacled boy wince a little from the pain. "Because of him, we won, and everyone knows it!" Not so hated and excluded anymore, is he? Lise rolled in, yawning, she came just on time because Roz was behind her and the morning began with Roz informing them how the right to return home worked. "What about those without guardians to sign permission slips?" Lise asked, because she wasn't a native, and her parents were both dead. Same with Jonah, both of them more or less lived here now, they didn't have anywhere to go, but weren't they still allowed to go out whenever they wanted? "Those with special circumstances should have an appointed guardian Conductor to look after their personal affairs." Roz explained, and Lise smiled, obviously having known the answer, she was just saying it for the benefit of everyone that needed it.

And so the day passed and finally, sweaty and tired, it was over. Irina pulled out her signed forms that she received in the mail from Sam, with this they could go back home. "Heh, I bet Sam didn't expect us to make it this far." Irina held Emma and gave her a quick hug. "Did you get yours too? Let's go show Roz so we can leave!" She was excited to finally get off campus, to get back to where they didn't have to pretend all the time. It was getting tiring being Irina, no doubt Miiko was exhausted of having to wear the Emma mask.

"See you Sunday." Cyrus waved, he had his form clutched carefully in his hand as well. "You too, Cyrus." Jonah was already chatting with Lise - they were probably planning some sort of event for everyone in Group B that didn't have a home to come back to. Irina held Emma's hand and they gave their sheets to Conductor Roz, who gave them both a rare smile. "It's not often we have girls as talented as the two of you here." He said with what appeared to be genuine fondness. "It's my job here to make sure that talent is wasted or killed, so don't die on me and make this old man sad, got it?" Irina smiled at her teacher, wondeirng if it had been possible to be on good terms with her teachers back as Prisca in the old world, if she gave them a chance. "We have no intentions to die, Conductor." She gave the salute and their sheets were stamped with the approved button.

Miiko gathered her paperwork for the return home trip and held Irina's hand. "I've got it big sis, let's go show them to Roz so we can go home!" Emma squeaked as they stepped outside of the bunker to hand in their paperwork. "I'm happy we're here, I'm a little sad we're leaving, even if it's just for the weekend." Emma ran a hand through her blonde hair, they were going to need to touch up their roots every other Saturday so that their true hair colors did not begin to show. "I hope that everyone has a good time and comes back refreshed, I hope that we do too." Emma was still playing with her hair when they reached the classroom and handed in their papers. She blushed heavily at the compliments, "Th-thank you Sir!" Emma gave a quick salute before turning on her heels, trailing Irina out the door. "I can't believe we got a compliment out of him!" She squeaked with joy.

The day was still young, but Emma wanted nothing more than to sit down and rest her tired feet. "Emma! Irina!" Sam had spotted them, he jogged over, his pristine white uniform almost glowing in the golden hour of day. "How was it? I saw you at the opening ceremony but I had to act formal because they give first year's guff if they try to talk to senior members." Emma smiled, "I saw you! I tried to wave, I pointed you out to Iri but you know how she is," Emma nudged Irina. "Stone faced facade that doesn't give anything away," she shook her head and giggled. "I figured we'd go to my place so you girls could get showered and changed, then we'll head out to have a night on the town. I never really got to show you a good time in the Capitol of Capitol City."

Emma giggled, wondering what a good time entailed. "How does that sound Iri?" She asked, still holding her big sister's hand while they walked towards the car. Sam spoke to them about what he had been doing at work, helping chase down and expose the "wrong doings of the rebellion," as Sam put it. "One day Irina and I will be doing that too!" Emma said excitedly, although in truth she was dreading that day ever coming. There were still three years of training after this one and hopefully by then they will have gotten plenty of cadets to defect. Once inside of the car, Emma relaxed. "It's been a hard week, I'm all sore." She stretched and rest her head on Irina's lap. "We're making a lot of friends though and I think that Cyrus has the hots for Rose." Miiko giggled with a smirk.

"He keeps trying to buddy up with her for all of the projects and I got stuck with Roz yesterday because Jonah got beat up! He wouldn't say who did it apparently, something about snitches getting stitches and a closet? I'm not sure, but it was kind of scary. I'm glad he's back, I don't want to have to fight Roz from it, I'm bruised all over." Miiko rubbed her sore butt from where she had fallen, surely there was going to be a very large black and blue mark remaining.

It was such a relief to see Sam again, to finally be able to be with a friendly face that wouldn't one day have to either betray everyone they care about, or be killed by them. He was another Rebel, he was on their side, and Irina was happy. She didn't want to have to end up killing Lise, Jonah, Cyrus, even Roz, as brash as he was, it was obvious that he was a cuddly caring teddy bear on the inside, only acting tough to teach them the right way to be soldiers. "Hey, I wasn't stone faced, this is just my normal face." Irina scowled, shaking her head and Sam patted both of them on the back. "Since I'm in the Elite Four, I have access to the leaderboards, you're both doing great so far." They really were, weren't they?

"A night on the town sounds good, I'm looking forward to it, bro." Irina smiled with a bit of strain behind it, nursing her sore legs as they sat in Sam's car, glad to get to sit down instead of always be working her body. Fake or not, it still hurt if she did too much with it. "It really hurts to walk right now, sheesh." She rested Miiko's head on her lap, casting aside the Irina act for just a little bit. "I-i-it was s-so sc-scary b-being s-so... a-all the time, a-and, uuurgh....." Prisca whimpered, blushing fiercely enough to make up for the whole week where she wasn't allowed to be her real self. "It must have been hard, sis, but you made it this far." Sam said, driving them out of the area, back towards the house to get them changed. Prisca was going to have to done the princess dress again, wasn't she?

They made it back to Sam's luxurious house which was far too empty. Lise was probably either hanging out at the academy or meeting up with Pablo or Orianna right now, possibly even L. The Elite Four and L, they were all a closely linked family, it was clear to see how Lise viewed Sam as someone she would die for if she had the chance. "...Sam, will we really have to kill Lise and everyone?" She asked, a bit anxiously, speaking what was on Miiko's mind as well. "U-um, I'm loyal to the cause, I h-have to be, but... Lise... she's a child, they're all children, I-I don't know i-if it's okay to kill them." She turned her head down, knowing it was probably bad to question orders like this. "W-we'll never be a-able to convince her to j-join the rebels..."

Oh, there was another matter of concern too, as she gathered up her towel and toiletry supplies in order to shower and feel refreshed. Sam already had a princess dress prepared for her as well. "...Two people in c-class, they s-seem to want to... defect, b-but it could be a trap... d-do you have any suggestions?" She glanced to the side at what looked like tickets on the table, did Sam have something planned? They were tickets to a live action theater play, a late show with real actors, something about lovers being separated because of war but sending letters, it was supposed to be a wonderful tragedy. Despite the totalitarianism of Capitol City, there very much was a wide appreciation among the citizens for live action plays, and even the Senate loved all of it's theatrical integrity, not applying censors even for plays that appear to sympathize for the rebels, as long as it's a good and tasteful story, there's no topic that could be banned.

"You were like a rock! Not giving anything away! You were so good! Meanwhile I have to act like a nervous wreck and I can't talk back to anyone!" Miiko humphed, crossing her arms. "And there were so many people I wanted to hit! But no, Emma is too shy and meek!" Perhaps it was rude to make fun of the missing girl that used to be Sam's sister, however if Sam felt anything towards her he didn't flinch. "You're lucky Sam, I'm sure you're glad it's over." Sam nodded, "Yeah, but sometimes I miss it. You two will too once you're out and realize how easy you had it. Getting told what to do, when to eat, how to dress, in the real world no one makes those decisions for you and sometimes, if you make a bad choice, people get killed." That sounded harsh, were those the same issues her parents had to live with?

"Yeah! I want to see the city!" Miiko chipped in, sitting up once more. She winced, "Ugh, my spine hurts." She lay back down, her head returning to Irina's lap. Sam chuckled, "I remember my first week, the soreness will go away after a month or so." A month?! Miiko could hardly take it now! No sense in complaining, it wasn't as though Sam could fix it. "Don't worry Rose, no one was gonna hurt you. You did a great job acting as Irina, I'm sure Sam thinks so too." Sam nodded his head, "to be quite honest it's a little too accurate. I sometimes find myself believing that you're, well, Irina." He said a bit darkly, although Miiko wasn't sure what he meant by that, she liked to think it a compliment. Rose was better at playing Irina than Irina was at playing Irina. "What about me?" She squeaked, wanting a review. "You're doing a good job as well Miiko, keep it up." Sam reached back to fluff her hair in that Princely way of his.

Sam's house was luxuriously empty, perfect, just what Miiko had wanted! She was about to skip off to the shower when Rose asked the question Miiko was so hesitant to hear the answer to. "I think when it comes down to it, we'll never be able to convicne Lise," Sam admitted. "I believe our only choice will be to jail or kill her," it was clear that speaking those words pained him. "We should opt for jail, Lise is so young, she doesn't deserve to die. She probably doesn't even know she's fighting the wrong side," they would make a rebel out of her yet! Just like those other two fine young men that were thinking of defecting to join the rebellion, which Miiko was very glad to hear about. "We might not convince her, but we can convince everyone else and maybe then she'll follow along? Once she sees that she's playing for the wrong team?"

"For now be wary," Sam warned them, "slip them some fliers or information, but don't contact them directly. I think it's too dangerous in case they change their minds or panic and you get caught up in the center of it." Then Miiko and Rose would be ousted for who they were. Miiko did not want that to happen, she didn't want to return home with her metaphorical tail between her legs. "Don't worry, Rose and I will do our best to stay out of trouble." Miiko promised, giving Sam a salute.

Even in her old world, as Prisca, the duelist light bearer, she never had to make choices that involved the lives and deaths of your subordinates. She had always been a trump card reserved for fighting specific enemies during a battle, because her light bearing gift wasn't good for anything other than that, the ability to predict three moves ahead. As she showered she thought about Sam and the things he said - and most importantly the things he didn't say, finding it all to be indications of the kind of person he was. As for killing Lise... she had said before entering the shower that she didn't like that idea. "If we have to, I won't go against orders, but she doesn't deserve death if we can avoid it." Sam's response was ruthless but obvious. "We probably won't have a choice, not with how strong she was."

Sam, he was a soldier here for a long time and a member of the Elite Four for quite some times as well. He probably got to watch Lise grow from a young girl to a still-young but more hardened, more matured now. He fell in love with Pablo unless that blush earlier had all been for show. He seemed friendly with Orianna, possibly seeing her as a cool female friend that keeps the other three all in line from doing more horrific things to people. "Aah, that feels better." She was done with her shower, and fully dressed and spotless once more, Prisca left the shower. "It's your turn, Mimi, it's really nice to have privacy for once..." Privacy was something that didn't exist in the Military Academy, but it wasn't so bad like this at all.

Right around then, a bird flew into the open window and Sam was quick to move to close it. The bird separated into Sanaa and Kennan, right on schedule. "What did we miss, what's happening?" Sanaa looked like she wanted to be sick, she hated being away from Athena's side just in case she needed the medical help and Kennan was bouncing with excitement about a mission like this. "The Red Fleet is going to attack Capitol City tomorrow." Sanaa said, shaking her head. "Varus came and announced it, saying he'd blow up the school to scare the citizens... he wouldn't listen when we tried to tell him that you two were there, that idiotic man!" An attack... that wasn't good, was it? "If Varus sees us, he might recognize it..."

Kennan was giggling however. "A pirate battle, this is so exciting, I want to see it!" The battle of Contralto did nothing to change his ideas on wanting to be a hero of the war. "We can't, we have to go back to report to Jace that the two agents are still safe!" She hissed fiercely, glaring hard at them. "Where is Miiko?" Sam pointed to the bathroom with the steam coming out from the bottom of the door, answering their questions.

"Scrub a dub-dub one Miiko in a tub," Miiko said as she washed herself off, scrubbing her hair and body until she was spick and span. "Ah, that feels so much better," the pinkette was now wrapped in a towel and getting dressed in what Sam had provided for her, a pair of jean pants and a cozy oversized sweater that had a super soft interior. It was a good thing too because Miiko was already cold while she dried her hair and brushed it, doing her best to replicate the pretty rose braids she wasn't allowed to have in military school. Miiko tucked the plastic rose into her pocket and headed out, hearing voices. Was someone here? Had Lise come to visit? "Sanaa! Kennan!" Miiko ran to greet them, jumping into Kennan's arms. "Hey Miiko," he said, ruffling her hair. They remade their report to the small pink haired girl. "How is Mom? How's Stella? Is Dad alright?" Of course Miiko was concerned about them.

"Stella is very upset over the fact that she had to stay behind while you got to go on a mission," Sanaa reported. "Especially one as important as this," Sanaa gave Miiko a hug next since Kennan had since put her down. "Athena isn't at her best, but she isn't deteriorating further and your Father is the same, the most optimistic man I have ever met." Miiko giggled, that sure sounded like her Daddy! "Thanks for making the reports, tell them I love and miss them!" Sanaa nodded, tugging on Kennan's sleeve. "Will do, we should get going, they're going to worry since we've been gone for a while," Sanaa said, scratching her cheek. The seemingly older twin had to force her brother out the window. "What was that I heard before about Varus?" Miiko asked, turning towards Sam who seemed as though he was looking for the right words.

"The Red Fleet is gong to attack the school," Miiko's jaw nearly fell to the ground. Sure it was the weekend and there weren't that many students around, but there would still be casualties "Are you kidding?! Is Varus really that stupid?!" Miiko asked, enraged. She kicked the piece of steel they had left behind, a sharp little box that served as a panic button, which Miiko was not going to take because it was strange and did not fit in. "I'm so upset Our plans were so smooth and then they just had to go and ruin it all! Why? Why would Varus do that? Didn't Daddy warn him?" Perhaps it was because he had been warn that he was double crossing the rebellion? Whatever the case, it was a good thing that they were not at the school tomorrow. "We'll be here, in the city," but that did not mean that they were going to let their classmates die.

Being shut off and cut away for such a long time from the information network at Yavin, both Prisca and Miiko were starved for whatever news the Vorkov twins had to offer, anything would be good and they were very excited to hear what they had to say. Naturally they waited until Miiko was out of the shower, of course, and when that happened, they told them about Athena, about Jace, about Stella. Prisca bit her lip, she really wanted to ask about how Essie was doing, about Daisy and Jelly, about Gavin and Callum, but of course she couldn't do that. The face that she missed most was, surprisingly enough, not Essie, but Daisy, that singer's familiar face sticking out in her mind, that subtle support very much missing in her life right now. But she didn't ask, because she was Prisca and she was too shy to ask.

As soon as they've come, the twins became a bird again and flew off for the long journey back home, flying back to Yavin, leaving Miiko to start her tirade against Varus. "It's a hasty move, definitely." Sam said in his usual way of sounding neutral in most things, dark eyes almost glittering. "Varus was always this kind of man, doing things on a whim instead of thinking things through." It sounded like him from the little they got to see him. "So this isn't some part of his super well-thought out plan?" Rose tried for a hopeful possibility but she had a feeling the red captain wasn't like that. "If he doesn't even realize we're here, this is bad." And they had no way of sending out a warning not to do it either, they had no way of contacting the man.

"From the sounds of things, Jace tried to warn him." Sam muttered, gripping the insides of his pockets tensely. "But Varus went off without hearing a thing Jace said." Sam chuckled then, remembering something of the far past, before even Stella, before he was made into a spy. "...A long time ago, when they were best friends, brothers without blood... Varus always did this sort of thing, Jace would have a strategy meeting, Varus would walk in and shout about doing his own thing, and then they'd have no choice but to do what he wanted..." There had to be a punchline, right? "Then what happened?" Prisca asked, watching Sam pick up the three tickets for the show. "It almost always worked out, that was the mysterious thing. Many of the Rebellion's early successes were Varus's whims somehow being exactly what they needed." He brandished the tickets and smiled at his sisters. "Irina, Emma, ready to go see the show? You'll both love it, I'm sure."

Right on cue Prisca, everything about her changed, was no longer jittery and trembling, she was resolute and peerless, she was Irina Reisser, strong and flawless, sporting that usual smile.

The Rebellion had the Horizon Star, which was meant to represent hope in a sea of darkness glimmering far away, small, but certainly existing. The Republic had the Imperial Dusk, the ship meant to signify the fact that L was willing to become a villain in this story if it meant he could bring peace and force all the other islands from having wars with each other, as well as showing his hatred for the Senate and their corrupt ways. And lastly there was the Red Fleet, sporting their own flagship, the Bloody Dawn, referring to the fact that they were ruthless and left a trail of blood after every raid, showing no mercy. "You've never lead us astray, captain." Havran said, sipping some tea from Yavin as they sailed southwards to the Capitol City. "If this is your strategy, Fox and I will support you no matter what." Captain Varus laughed that booming laugh and winked. "It'll be exciting! And in a story like this, isn't that what matters the most?"

Emma followed her two siblings to Sam's car. She sat in the back beside Irina, watching out the window as they drove towards the theater. "The sunset is so pretty," Sam had the tickets tucked into the front pocket of his uniform so as not to lose them and slowly they drove, following along other cars and parking in a spot that was just for high ranking military members. Emma slid out of the backseat, gawking in awe at the theater. "It-it's huge!" She squeaked, hiding behind Irina and Sam. She held onto Irina's dress, not wanting to get lost in the sea of people. "Stay close, we'll be going up to the balcony." The theater had red velvet curtain and red velvet seats with gold trim. The chandelier was gorgeous and soft piano music wafted out of the speakers somewhere. "What is that? What's that noise?" Emma inquired, uncertain if she liked it.

"That's called music," Sam informed her, leading the two of them to the ticket vendor who ripped the tickets and permitted them into the box seat. They had their own private section with curtains to close off the outside, all because Sam was a member of the elite four. "Wow, we're so high up! Look at the stage!" Without others around, Emma didn't have to act so shy and she pointed and gawked and stared at everything that came underneath her scrutiny. "Do you girls want something to eat? There's popcorn and water," Sam handed out what looked to Emma like Styrofoam. She took one piece and crunched it, not liking the taste. "Ew," Emma shook her head and handed it back to Sam who laughed. "An acquired taste for sure, do you like it Irina?" Emma lifted up the playbill to attempt to read it.

"What are all these? Sally's Nails, Harry's Hats?" Sam laughed, "those are ads, they sponsor the theater by paying money to put their logos in the playbill." Emma flipped to the next page to see a rather large picture of the Elite Four. "Hey look! You're in here Sam!" She smiled, showing the photo to Irina. "I hope we can be this famous one day." Emma turned to the pages that listed the actors, finding a strangely familiar face. "I know this person," she said quietly, showing it to Irina. "I think that's a rebel," So Sam was not the only rebel to have infiltrated Capitol City? The lights lowered, a new tune was being played to let everyone know that it was nearly time for the show to start.

An actor came out onto the stage to announce what they would be watching, a romantic telling of the Calamity, staring two background characters who had simply sought to find love in a world full of vile light bearers.

The Sunset Ampitheater was gorgeous to look at, a true sight to behold in a ruined world. Humans were able to build these things on only a hundred years? "During the harsh wars with Enrya to the south, and the risk of famine and drought because of the desert, people turned to plays about other lives to distract themselves, and everyone on Capitol City loves to watch the actors perform now." Sam gave them a brief history lesson on why this pasttime was so important to everyone here. "I can see why." It truly was grandiose, full of light and decorations and joy. Music was being played and Irina pretended to be surprised about it, but naturally she already knew what music was. She came from the twenty-second century, after all, she wasn't from this world.

Despite all the danger, Capitol City truly was the closest she had to a place similar to her old world. Aurum was too metal and robotic, Yavin was too much like the primitive times, but Capitol City felt just right. "It's starting." The ice princess said softly as the tune echoed through the air, and she nibbled happily on the popcorn pieces, reminiscing on the old days in the pre-calamity world. The play began, starting with an imagined battle of the Calamity, since no one alive really knew about what it was like, they had made up countries and everything, a world of land, rather than one of water. A female soldier light bearer, trying to hunt down the Immortal Girl that was trying to end the world, ran into a normal man just trying to escape the city alive with his younger sister.

"If you're a light bearer, I'll report you to the Government!" He warned and so the Heroine had to hide her mark and pretend to be just another fleeing person. She was on a mission, she needed to kill the Immortal Girl in order to save the world and prevent the Calamity, but she was stuck trying to help this man and his sister escape. They went to a a shelter, all three of them alive, and began to settle into new lives, almost like a family of three, managing to survive the greedy armies fighting over gold and food. Despite being wildly inaccurate to how the real Calamity was fought, they still managed to catch the desperation of the end times, the human heart of what it was like to live in those days.

The man and the woman fell in love, but of course, the Heroine had to continue trying to hunt for the Immortal Girl... but then the sister discovered the secret, she found out about the light bearing mark. She promised to keep it a secret, however she couldn't prevent the investigators to come and check out the rumors that a light bearer was residing here. The man, having realized that not all light bearers were bad, told her to run as he held the investigators back, told her to continue on her mission to save the world, and so the Heroine left, to find the Immortal Girl, to kill her and prevent the Calamity, crying the entire time.

Finally in the depths of her despair, the Heroine found the Immortal Girl resting in a flower garden, looking almost peaceful. She tried to kill her but nothing she did had any effect. 'The world is full of sin, and I will cleanse it.' The Immortal Girl said, holding out a hand to the sky. 'I will start everything anew and fix the natural world's balance.' And so a huge light filled the stage and in the end, on a desert island, the Heroine gave birth, to the first baby of the New World, forever wondering if she could have prevented the Calamity, or if she would have been better off simply living her life to the fullest. And with that sad note, the curtain closed, signifying the play's end.

When the play ended and the lights came on, Emma realized that she was crying. The audience was on their feet, raucous applause like thunder that rolled down in waves across the theater. Emma stood and joined them in clapping, although she wasn't quite sure why. The play had been both beautiful and devastating, a mix of joy and sadness that Emma had not been prepared for. Sam was watching them in order to gauge their reaction, this tale telling that light bearers could be good, which went against everything that the Republic stood for. Emma followed Sam out of the theater and into the car and only then did she dare to speak her mind to her older siblings. "Yui isn't a bad person though, she was just sad." Emma pointed out to them in the hopes that they would not think badly of Miiko's friend. Irina knew the truth as well, she had been on the battlefield. "I liked everything else about the play though, they packed so much into it in so little time."

Their next stop was dinner at something called a restaurant. They sat at a table with menus that had a list of foods. "I've ever been in a restaurant before, at the orphanage we just ate what was served to us." Emma said excitedly to the waiter who had a look mixed of bemusement and horror. "So sorry," Sam apologized, "it's Emma's first time out. You know kids, give them an ounce of freedom and they'll bounce around everywhere," the waiter nodded and filled up their glasses, leaving to give them enough time to order. "Emma, don't you think you're being a bit too bouncy?" Sam warned and Emma remembered her place. She hid behind her menu, making sure to act shy. "I-Iri, ca-can you order for me?" Emma squeaked, practically dying of embarrassment when the waiter returned. She kept her blush hidden behind the paper of course.

In the end Emma ordered something called a beef flatbread with cheese and sauce. The way Sam and Irina had explained it to her sounded good, even if Emma had never eaten a flatbread before. Was it like how Mama sometimes made bread that was flat? Emma hoped so because she missed Athena's home cooking. "What's the best part of your job?" Emma inquired to Sam, Wanting to know more about his life in Capitol City. "Well, I should think that the best part of my job is that I get to help people. Young and old, I help with the development and coding, which is why I'm not always on missions, not unless they need me to act as a human navigator or code breaker." Emma could remember that Sam had always been good at cracking codes, ti was how he had managed to find his way to Yavin.

"That sounds just like you," Emma giggled, "always helping everyone in need, just like at the orphanage." When Emma realized that someone beside them was listening she whimpered and attempted to hide behind her napkin since her menu had been taken away. "Iri and-and I we-we spent lots of time t-t-trying to fi-fin-find you!"

In the car on the way to the restaurant, Emma kept trying to tell them that no, Yui wasn't really bad, she was just a sad person. Irina nodded and gently caressed Emma's head with her hand, patting it and rubbing it fondly. "I was there, remember?" Irina said in a hushed whisper, but it was ambiguous as to what 'there' she was at. She was there when they rescued Yui, she was there when Yui, the Immortal Girl felt compelled to begin the Calamity and flooded the world with water, with her tears. The only problem, like Emma said, was that the play portrayed her as a neutral, almost alien force of nature, rather than just a normal girl with a cruel fate. "I didn't know people from Capitol City wouldn't censor a play like that." It was controversial after all. "Most people don't really hate light bearers." Sam was quick to deliberate. "It's just, they represent chaos, disrupting order, and after so much war with Enrya, people really just want safety and security." Something like chaos meant risking going back to the old days where war was always brewing on the horizon.

It was time to eat and Irina was starving, she couldn't wait to dig in and enjoy some new cuisine. The establishment was fancy, and it made Irina wonder just how much of a salary he got for being a member of the Elite Four. "Well, we're orphans, but we're happy, aren't we, Emma? We finally get to be with our big brother again." In private she was going to have to ask Sam if it was okay that they acted as his long lost sisters - but it had to be, otherwise he wouldn't have made the offer, right? "I'll take the honey hoisin noodles." Irina ordered and then winked at her Caster. "No, silly, you have to order for yourself. You're a military girl now, you have to have independence, Conductor Roz always says that!" It was true, Roz did mention once or twice that Emma was really attached to her, that wasn't exactly good in a soldier.

Irina was very careful to hide the fact that her back had stiffened. Maybe because she had already been a fighter in the past, or she was always a paranoid toxic person like when she was with Essie a long time ago, but she had pretty well honed senses for this kind of thing, tapping her fingers twice to indicate to Emma that someone was listening in. "I hope we fit in here, we aren't exactly locals or anything, Sam." Sam ruffled her hair and Irina made a show of trying to primp it back up again, scowling at him. "I already get emails from Lise about you two, all the time, she adores you." But that was only going to make it harder to betray her in the end, wasn't it?

"Imagine our surprise when caring ol' Sam became a military guy." She made a graceful modest sort of laugh, and then the waiter came with their food at last. Irina paused for a second, she didn't know anything about etiquette at all, but she remembered something in a book about how a good woman can be seen by the way she eats, it was almost supposed to resemble a work of art. So Irina straightened her back and closed her eyes, taking a small bit of noodles with her fork and neatly cut it at the end with a knife before inserting the fork into her mouth and gently sliding the caught noodles into her mouth, all in one smooth, fluid motion. Of course she made sure to chew with her mouth closed, the most important step!

Emma was not good at speaking to strangers, she needed to get better at it if she wanted to make a good soldier. So Emma cleared her throat and bravely ordered the flatbread. When it came it smelled like heaven and she was quick to bite into it. "Well I had to make a career somehow," Sam replied, "I thought the military was the best way to go, especially with the rebellion on their tail. I wanted to contribute and get back at those bastards for what they did to our family." Emma nodded her head, "I want to too! I want to kill rebels!" She said through a mouthful of food, nowhere near as picturesque in her physique as Irina was. "I want to be a soldier Princess like Irina," Sam ruffled Emma's hair. "You already are a Princess and Lise's told me you're at number 5 right now, that's not bad. Keep that up and you'll pass military school with flying color."

"I'm going to fight with all my might in honor of all those who died in the bombing." Emma meant it, it wasn't just for show. Playing this character, she was quickly becoming close to Miiko's heart. She could feel what Emma was feeling, could almost sense what was right and wrong in Emma's heart. Emma was taking a bite of her flatbread when the air raid siren went off. Everyone in the restaurant calmly stood and began to move outside. "We have to go," Sam said, walking at a brisk pace. Emma gave one last glance full of longing towards her food and made a dash for the exit, holding Irina's hand so that the two of them wouldn't get separated. "Status report?" Sam asked a soldier outside. "The academy gate was just bombed Sir," the soldier saluted, Sam saluted in return. "Come on, we're going home." Sam would have to report in to work, he thought he had another day, or at least a few hours.

Sam left them at home with the very strict instructions of not to open the door for a single soul. Sam had the key so there was no reason to be unlocking it anyhow. They were to stay in their room, which also happened to be the shelter. "Do you think it's the Red Fleet?" Miiko asked worriedly, able to drop the act now that they were back inside of the safety of Sam's home. She pulled out the rose, touching its petals to ensure that no one had damaged it. Overall the flower appeared whole and unhurt, which came as a great relief. "I hope that Varus doesn't do permanent damage to the school, that would delay our agenda." Miiko sighed and lay back, looking at one of the fliers she had caught on her way out. It was propaganda against the rebellion, saying that light bearers were bad, but the rebellion was worse. Miiko felt rage consume her, "he doesn't know anything!"

She crumpled up the paper into a ball and tossed it into the waste basket, her cheeks tinged pink. In a huff Miiko put on her pajamas but she wasn't tired yet. "Hey, let's see if Sam has any games in this place, maybe we could pass the time like that?" Miiko suggested despite the fact that they had been rather strictly been told to remain in their room.

The raid alarm went off, but it seemed it was too late because of the fact that the bomb had gone off, the Academy was hit. Should they have given the warning beforehand, maybe saved some peoples lives? Or would that have just blown their cover and gotten them killed, or worse? Prisca didn't know, but the best option in her head was to do whatever it took to keep Miiko safe, even if it meant giving up on saving whatever they could. So not reporting was the best option, pretend to be oblivious. "Sam, we need to go!" Irina bundled up Emma and threw down some money from Sam's pocket to pay, and then they dashed to the car to drive the sisters back home. Sam gave them a bunch of instructions and then ran off to do his duty as a member of the Elite Four.

"Varus doesn't think." Rose spat hotly, angry now, what was he thinking, sabotaging their mission like this, didn't he realize just how dangerous this was? "How could this benefit anyone in the long run?" No, the worst part was that Varus wasn't the kind of person to have some big secret master plan that this step was vital in, that wasn't the type of person he was. "He did it because it's dramatic, that's my bet." For the excitement, to carve a better story, because there was no way the Red Fleet Captain was able to think that far ahead. "He got a whim and that's what he did, he's a loose cannon." Was Jonah safe? What about Lise, was she okay? And everyone else that didn't have a home to return to for the weekend? "We can't leave the room, it isn't safe." Especially if there was a risk that the captain could recognize them.

And that was when the phone rang. Who could it be, who was calling them? Irina quickly shushed Emma and crept to the phone, picking it up with much care. A voice came through from the other end. "Irina, Emma, are you two safe?!" Cyrus's concerned shout almost rang in her ears. "Yes, we're fine. Have you contacted anyone else?" Cyrus seemed to pause for a moment, he was talking to someone else at the same time, probably his father, Senator Dennings. "The Elite Four is at the Academy, they're evacuating everyone, Jonah and Lise are confirmed safe." He reported, and that made Irina let out a breath of relief. "Good. And you, you're okay?" Cyrus affirmed that yes, he was safe, his district wasn't hit.

"Those damn rebels, what are they thinking?" Cyrus swore, he was furious, he felt helpless. No doubt he wanted to go out and help fight off the terrorists but as a cadet he wasn't allowed to go out into real combat yet. "You should try to contact everyone else, Cyrus, make sure none of our own died." She paused, thinking. "Wait. Emma, do you want to talk to him?" She handed the phone to Emma, hopefully watching her was enough of an introduction on how phones worked.

Emma screamed when the phone began to ring, uncertain of what had happened. "W-what is that?" She inquired, clearly confused. Emma hid behind her bed, watching Irina speak into the telephone. "Sorcery!" She screamed, slightly fearful. Irina held the phone out to her but Emma shook her head. Who was Irina speaking to on the other side? "Cyrus?" Emma managed to piece together, at first believing that Irina was mad and speaking to herself. She could almost hear his voice on the other side, although it was more like vague whispers than anything else. "Is it magic?" Irina forced the phone onto her and Emma meekly spoke into it. "H-hello?" She inquired, nearly peeing in her pants when a voice responded on the other side. "Emma? What's going on? What's happening there?" Cyrus asked and Emma swallowed hard, wondering if this strange device had swallowed Cyrus.

"It-it's um, quiet. We're alright, really, just... bored." A bang and flash sounded from outside of the room, Emma screamed and dropped the receiver, her hands shaking. What was that? What had happened? The line had gone dead, something had hit the outside of the house. This room had no windows, but Emma had been able to see the flash from underneath the doorway. "Was it a bomb? Is Cyrus launching cannons?" Emma whimpered, sticking close to Irina. "We should go check," Emma braved up, rolling the sleeves of her pajamas up to her elbows. She grabbed a broom for protection and headed into the hallway, walking across the tile towards a window to peak outside. The garden had been decimated and laying unconscious was the form of a girl with hair the color of gray clouds, her body as still as stone.

"I think there's a dead person in the garden!" Emma screamed, gesturing wildly to Irina to come forth and assist in the investigation. "Look, she's not moving! Do you think she's dead?" Emma opened up the window, glanced left and right and hooked her arms around the girl's prone figure. With a slight heave, Emma pulled the girl inside using the newfound muscles she had been building in gym. Emma was terribly sore, but she couldn't leave this poor person outside in the midst of battle. "I know Sam said not to let anyone in, but we can't just leave her out there all injured." Emma dragged the girl into their room and closed the door behind her.

"I don't think she's a pirate, but I don't think she's from around here either." The girl mentioned, putting her glove on so that her light bearing mark was hidden. Emma had no bandages, so she used toilet paper from the bathroom to staunch the flow of blood leaking from cuts. "Irina? What do you think?" Emma inquired, wondering what her older sister thought of the girl that Emma had dragged inside. Would she hate it? Would she want to put the girl back out? Emma wouldn't let her, she couldn't just leave this girl to explode in one of the attacks being launched on the city.

After setting up their home in Aurum, a beacon of light so that Yui would know to find them if she was still alive, one day one of their people found a strange finding. They fished up a girl from the sea. Brimming with hope, Ally and Leo rushed to the scene, it had to be Yui! They found Yui, their little angel was going to return to them, wasn't she? But when the fishing boat returned, they found not Yui, but Aria, unmoving, as close to dead as dead could be. "Oh, Ari." Ally gasped, whimpering, she moved to hug the stormy wind mage. "Why are you here? D-don't you know? Your job is to be by Yui's side, so why are you here?" But Aria, asleep like she was, gave no answers. "Let's bring her in for now, maybe if we can wake her up, she can lead the way to Yui." Leo suggested sadly. "If it's at all possible... maybe this is a good sign, then we can bring everyone back home to Ornet and we can be a family again." Of course by now that was impossible, they all had their own lives now, Ally and Leo were grown up, their children already on the way to teenagerhood, they had their responsibilities to take care of Aurum now.

Over the weeks though, nothing they did worked, Aria just wouldn't, couldn't wake up. "Maybe it's that girl, maybe she's planning something." In Aurum, Ally had found a strange item and with Leo they managed to confirm that it had the same light signature as that girl, except a little less than a tenth of the same energy was there. They couldn't remember her name, but they knew it started with an M. "I can sense it, a tiny leftover part of her soul, it's in Aria, it's keeping her alive, and from aging." Because Ally and Leo were both in their thirties now, but Aria was still the exact same as before. "That girl's definitely planning something, and her big sister's a needed piece of the puzzle." Ally decided, wiping her tears. "We need to let Aria go, so that that girl's plan isn't disrupted." And so the next night, Ally and Leo went to the dock and very reluctantly returned Aria to the sea, where the mysterious girl could ensure that Yui be reunited with her guardian, one day.

"I'll bring her in, she looks..." Prisca stared at her, heart thumping hard, this didn't make sense, this couldn't make sense. "Miiko. That girl, she's from - she's from my time. She was one of the Imm... one of Yui's companions." She grit her teeth, trying to make sense of this. How could this be true? Prisca remembered directly killing her with her own hands! Well, whatever the case, they couldn't let her be caught, her light bearing mark was on her hand and that would definitely be a problem. Irina opened the door carefully and sprinted to bring the grey haired girl in, and then just as quickly locked the door shut.

Prisca was panting, her mind was reeling, this couldn't possibly make sense. "She's Yui's closest guardian." Prisca informed Miiko with gulping breaths as she tried to steady herself. "And somehow she's alive, this doesn't make sense except..." No, there was definitely one way that this could be true. "...That girl. The Goddess, she did something, she did something she wasn't supposed to." A rule was broken, how else could this Nemi be here?

And then air blasted at both her and Miiko, knocking them at the wall. With staggered breathing, the girl stood, wavering yet menacing all the same. She coughed, and puked and an ungodly amount of water came out with her. She said something but Prisca couldn't interpret it it, because language had changed over the hundred years. As if knowing they didn't understand, she wiggled a finger and an image appeared before them... and it was of Yui, a girl they knew.

Emma stared at the girl from out the window, watching her in concern. "How did she get there? How did she get through the gate?" Emma inquired, uncertain if they should bring her in or leave her outside. While she wanted to bring the girl inside on the one hand, on the other she knew that strangers were dangerous. "What are you doing!?" Without hesitation, Irina ran out and brought the gray haired girl inside of Sam's home. "You can't just bring her in here, what if she's dangerous!?" But the words Rose was saying made no sense. A girl from her time? Then her caster had to be near by. "Her caster will be looking for her, won't she?" Emma asked worriedly, wondering if the light bearer was on their team or Varus's. It certainly could not be someone from Capitol City, but Emma hadn't heard of another light bearer and summoner popping up. Then again, she wouldn't know if it was fairly recent.

The wind whipped through the bedroom, sending the two girls into the wall behind them. Miiko hit her head against the door knob and whimpered, rubbing her head. The girl vomited, spewing up ocean water and seaweed. Miiko blinked back stars, hoping to communicate properly but the gray haired girl spoke in tongues. "What, what language is that?" Miiko asked, taking off her glove to show that they were light bearers too, that there was no reason to be afraid. In her hand she formed what appeared to be a very familiar figure. "That's Yui! We know her!" Miiko nodded exuberantly, of course they knew who Yui was! "I know her, I know where she is!" Miiko jumped to her feet, hoping that she didn't catch the girl by surprised. "Er, she's not here though, she's far away." How could Miiko explain it? The gray haired one wasn't exactly speaking in terms she could understand.

~~~~~~~
Yui awoke in a cold sweat, having fallen asleep outside where she was drawing. She sat up, panting and gasping, snow coating her hair and eye lashes. She shivered, glancing around, a feeling of something unsettling in her chest. "Yui!" Stella called, walking in a circle around their home. "Yui!" Yui stood and lifted up her drawing pad, shuffling back inside. "I-I'm here!" She called, stumbling forward. Stella caught her, "hey there, be careful. Come on, let's go inside and get you warmed up." Yui nodded, allowing Stella to carry her into the warm home. Stella set Yui down on the couch and brought her a bowl of warm soup and a cup of tea. "I feel... something strange," Yui admitted, looking between Stella and Athena, who were sitting on opposite ends of the living room, which wasn't all that far apart. "What sort of strange?" Athena asked gently, putting down the hat she had been crocheting.
"Something warm and cold, but familiar." She glanced longingly out the window, tears welling up in her eyes. What was this? It felt as though her chest was about to explode her heart was pounding so fast. "Hey, it's alright," Stella moved to sit beside her, wrapping her arms in a warm embrace around Yui to make her feel better. "You're fine, I'm sure it was just a nightmare. Let's get you into some dry clothes and then we'll see if we can't make that feeling go away." Yui nodded, sniffling. She sneezed, following Stella into the other room. Jace emerged from his bedroom, frowning. "If only she were that nice to Miiko," he said taking a seat beside his wife, who was looking somewhat frail today. "I think her problem with Miiko stems in the fact that she believes her sister is the one that sabotaged her."
So many things didn't make sense here, but there was one thing Prisca was certain of. "She isn't a Caster, Mimi." She said as the girl slept, twitching and stirring but not quite awake yet. "Nemi isn't... she's alive, she's human. She's not a Caster like I am." Unlike Prisca whose body was made of the Goddess's light and didn't have real blood, but rather a mauve substance, this girl was flesh and blood, just as much as Miiko was. "She's somehow alive after all this time." Prisca narrowed her eyes, a sudden realization striking through her. How did she not notice it before? It was the same feeling as all the other Spirits! "...The Goddess... let her exist here, somehow." And that was when Nemi woke up and lashed out instantly, the Strongest Light Bearer was back on the stage, a piece from a previous game was now back.
Prisca couldn't use her light bearing gift without the rose in Miiko's grasp, but Miiko revealing her mark should be enough, shouldn't it? Nemi stared at them, her eyes somehow red without the contacts, wide and glaring, she didn't trust them on principle. "That's Yui, we know her." Rose was here now, but how were they supposed to communicate with this girl? "We rescued her, she's safe." Of course her arm was out, protecting Miiko, ready to grab her if anything went south. Was it a mistake to let her in? "We're light bearers, so we're on the same side here." The wind mage was charging up air in her fist, ready to strike again, an immense power was coming from her soul, more than the light bearers of the current day and age, more than even most light bearers of the past.
"It's one of the old languages." But suddenly something came to mind, because there was another place that used an old language's writing system. "Kennan and Sanaa, they might be able to understand her." If one of the old languages was still passed down in Aurum, then the children of Allyana Vorkov should be able to interpret what this girl was saying. From seeing the light, Nemi calmed down a little, but she was still on guard. And then her stomach rumbled and she seemed almost embarrassed, all of the power fizzled out. After a hundred years of sleeping, she was starving. "Um, I think she's hungry." Prisca said unhelpfully.
....
"So this is your trump card?" Thanos was glaring, this wasn't fair, this wasn't in the rulebooks at all. "You used a piece from the last game, you aren't allowed to do that." Mizuki sneered as she placed the piece on the gameboard, the Queen from last game. "Then you shouldn't have let me get the pawn to the other side, silly." She poked her nose, having the upper hand here now. Justice was winning over Power. "You own't even allow your sister to rest in peace." Thanos was furious, because this was as close to cheating as one could get. Mizuki shrugged. "You should know her by now. Ari would never rest, as long as Yui wasn't happy and safe, Aria would never ever just sit down and let it happen." Bringing back the soul of a girl that would kill millions to save that one important person, it was a move not even Thanos could have predicted.
Miiko stood upright, feeling a little bit braver. "How are we going to contact them? Sam is the only one with the ability to do that," they would need Sam to return if they wanted Sanaa and Kennan to communicate with them and translate whatever it was Nemesis was saying. A grumbling stomach? Now that was a language Miiko could understand! "Follow us," she beckoned, skirting nervously around Nemesis in case she lashed out. Miiko led the way to the kitchen, going on the path that had no windows and opened up the fridge to look inside. There were very few dishes that Miiko knew how to cook, one of them was an omelette and toast thanks to Gavin having taught her when she wanted to make breakfast in bed. Miiko found some of that stuff called meat and added it to the pan, figuring that it could go inside of the omelette and that it would be filling enough to satiate the light bearer who was no doubt hungry.
"How is she alive?" Miiko inquired while she cooked, using a chair so that she could properly reach the stove. "Isn't she over a hundred years old?" Just like Yui! Unless they had the wrong immortal girl and Nemesis was the true one? Yui was the Immortal Girl that had ended the world, however, and Miiko highly doubted that Nemesis had that sort of power within her, although strength was coming off of her in waves. "Here you go, one omelette," Miiko said, presenting it to their guest. The door opened, Sam had returned from the attack if only for a little while. "Guys! I'm only here for a short while but-" Sam stopped in the doorway of the kitchen, looking from Miiko and Rose to the figure at the table. "I told you not to let anyone in!" Miiko blushed and looked at the ground. "She was outside and-and hurt!" Miiko protested.
"She doesn't speak our language," Miiko spoke quickly before Sam attempted communication. "Um, Rose says that she knows her, she's from her time." Sam crossed his arms, "but if she's a summoned spirit she should be able to speak our language." Miiko shook her head and gestured for Rose to explain this mess. Sam grabbed Rose's arm and led her into the hall so that the two of them could talk. Miiko on the other hand attempted to approach Nemesis with a glass of milk. "Um, it's going to be okay," Miiko said rather hesitantly. "Look? There's something to drink. I'm not gonna hurt you, I'm just gonna put this here." Miiko placed the glass on the table and stepped back just in case Nemesis tried to attack. What was she going to do with a girl she couldn't communicate with?
"Um, Yui-Yui is okay. Last I saw her, she was happy, she had friends again." Miiko was uncertain if Nemesis could understand what she was saying. "She's safe," she hoped that Yui was genuinely happy and not just faking it for their sake, although, Miiko would be depressed too if all of her friends were dead.
"We'll have to wait for him before we can make a decision." Prisca decided, glancing at Nemesis who was at a loss. She was trying to understand what they were saying but it was impossible for her, just how it was impossible for them to understand her. No doubt Nemesis at least remembered that Prisca was the one that killed her, which was why she was so suspicious initially. Prisca had an idea, though, even if it was vague. "2144." She wrote it down on a paper, that was the year everyone died. Nemesis too, died then, but she was still confused. Why couldn't Prisca remember how to write the number back in her time period? That wasn't going to work... so she cut the paper up into pieces. First she put two pieces down, and then next to it, one piece, next to that, four pieces, and then another four pieces. With that, there was finally understanding.
With a gave expression, Prisca added another piece next to the hundred slot, signifying that it was now the year 2245. Nemesis stared at it and then looked back to Prisca before looking sick. She stood up abruptly, only for Miiko to have finished making the food. "It's hard to believe, but that's the way it is." The Martyr said sadly, looking away. She had trouble accepting it as well - after all, just how were you supposed to believe something like that off the bat? Watching Nemesis wolf down her omelette as quickly as possible made it sure in Prisca's heart that this girl was not an enemy at all, she was an ally. Meanwhile Sam was here, and forced Rose to have a nice chat with him.
"I killed her, before the Calamity." Rose explained to Sam's suspicious eyes. "She's a light bearer... more than that, she's the strongest of the time. Don't you know how good it'll be for us to have her here?" But of course, looking at the inky grey mark on her hand, the beautiful spider lily, one thing was certain - this Nemesis girl was already suffering from the darkening. "...I need to explain something to you, the darkening." And so everything Prisca knew about it, and what risk it posed, Sam now knew as well. "Spirits seem not to have to worry about it - but Nemesis isn't a Spirit, she's just an old-style light bearer."
Nemesis had finished drinking her milk and was now trying to talk to Miiko with no understanding occurring on either side, really. Rose and Sam returned, they had come to a conclusion. "We have to leave her here for now, I need to make sure she won't jeopardize our operations on Yavin." As sad as it was, they couldn't risk bringing her to Yavin, even if she was one of Yui's family. "But I will send a message to Yavin, I'll get her on my private server that L can't access, so she and Yui can see each other, even if far away." That was Sam's decision and Rose smiled. "We have time, so we should do it now." Rose smiled at Miiko and patted her head. "We can't bring them together yet, but we can at least let them both know that the other is alive."
Yui was sitting in the bath, the water rather soothing against her cold skin. The bath was no more than a basin that was filled with warm water, although they were working on getting running water inside of the home, nothing could be done until winter ended. "Yui, Jace wants you," Stella said, knocking on the door. Yui cleared her throat and stood, "I'll be there in just a second," she promised, wrapping herself in a towel. Yui untangled the mass of hair that went down to her feet, she would need to cut that eventually. Perhaps tomorrow she would inquire of Athena, who had supposedly been cutting Miiko's hair for years. Once Yui was dressed she vacated the bathroom, finding a trio waiting for her. "Yui, there's something we need to talk about." Jace sat down at the table and Yui gulped, sitting across from him. What was this? A meeting? Were they going to kick her out? Yui should have known that she wouldn't be able to make herself a home here.
"I received a phone call from a colleague in Capitol City," Yui tensed, the name alone was enough to make her uneasy. "Apparently there is someone there that knows you." Knows her? But Yui didn't know anyone. "She wants to speak to you," alarm bells went off in Yui's head and immediate unease filled her lungs. "She doesn't speak our language though, she only speaks what Sanaa and Kennan are calling Japanese." Yui gasped, someone still spoke the dead language? Her eyes widened and she dared to hope that it could perhaps be another distant relative of one our of beloved family members. "They call her Nemesis," Yui stood so fast that her chair toppled to the floor. All eyes were on her, she wasn't certain what to do. "Neme... Nemesis?" That was impossible, "is this-is this some kind of joke?" Jace shook his head. "So you know that name then?"
"I watched her die, she was.... right in front of me, not breathing, not blinking, she was dead." Yui sank to her knees, sobbing. Stella moved to comfort her but Jace held up a hand, telling Stella to wait. "Yui, would you like to speak to Nemesis?" Yui was silent as her shoulder shook, her tears soaking into the sleeves of her shirt. "Yes!" She squeaked, "yes!" Much louder that time. Yui stood on shaking legs and righted her chair, waiting anxiously. Jace went to the other room to collect the device that Nino had made for him, a screen with a camera and microphone. He placed it down in front of Yui and set up the call. Yui awaited anxiously until there was an answer. "Hello?" Asked a boy and her heart sank in disappointment. "That's not Nemesis," she said quietly, Jace laughing at her confusion. "No, that's Sam, the Prince of the Rebellion. Yo, Sam, what's the status?"
"Is that Daddy?" Asked a voice in the background, "Miiko, hush!" Sam urged, "anyways, here she is." Yui held her breath as the screen slowly turned, revealing that familiar gray hair, those piercing red eyes, the slightly grumpy expression that rested on her face no matter what they were doing. The words left Yui's lips, her mind comprehending that she was speaking in Japanese, a language she had not spoken in a very long time.
"Aria."
