Emma's hands were still clean of blood, she was not flecked with crimson nor brain matter. She had at last reached the spot where she could hear Irina mid duel with Varus and a new comer. "Hang on Irina, I'm coming," Emma whispered. She had come up the wrong way, however. It was Lise who had been behind Irina, Lise whom Irina had taken the bullet for, selling her performance flawlessly. Emma froze, she was uncertain what she was doing. Her second weapon of choice was a pistol, there were two bullets in the barrel, a long silencer on the end. One, two, three, four, two bullets in each. Varus and Jace both fell, Emma's hands were shaking. She was flecked with blood, her eyes wide with terror. "Irina," Emma did not look at the corpse of her Father, nor the man who had been an older brother to her.

She knelt beside Irina and held her hand, "does it hurt?" In that moment, Lise did not exist. "Don't worry, I won't leave your side, not ever." Emma buried her head in Irina's chest, tears running down her cheeks. She was shaking something awful, as though she were the flicker of a flame dancing to and fro. Emma suddenly went numb, her vision going dark and her body limp. "What's going on!" Pablo yelled, suddenly panicked. He ran back to bed twenty two, attempting to disconnect Emma from the simulation manually. "I've never seen anything like this, a virus? But the SimulCrum can't get viruses." He pondered, circling the bed for answers. There were none on the surface, however Emma's vitals had raised considerably, Pablo raised that off, concluding that it was due to the fact that Emma had just made her first kill. Two bosses in the span of one minute, it was impressive to say the least.

"Can't we just disconnect her?" Pablo shook his head at the idiocy of his assistant. "The SimulCrum connects to the nerves, if we do that, it could paralyze her, or worse. We need to end the simulation, now." Pablo demanded, turning to his assistant. Pablo ran to the computer, shutting the simulation down. It was game over anyhow, with Jace and Varus now dead the rebellion heads had been metaphorically cut off, preventing the rebels from continuing to send their forces after the Republic. "What's going on? Why did they stop us like that?" Pablo glanced at bed twenty two hopefully, however Emma had not awoken. She seemed so peaceful, as though she were taking a midday nap. All around children roused, but bed twenty two remained still. "Emma?" Jonah asked, realizing that she was still laying down, her eyes closed.

"Where am I?" This room was not one that Emma recognized. This was not the SimulCrum launch nor the battlefield. She was contained within a cage, her surroundings nothing more than blinking lights. "Hey! Let m out!" Something hard like wind blew her back, the blinking lights faded, a door opening to reveal something that Emma had seen that she was not supposed to know existed. "You're her," the voice had a metallic grind which was harsh to Emma's ears. She winced and backed up, wondering if this was some sort of test. "Where am I?" She inquired, attempting to sound brave. "You are nowhere, in the heart of the SimulCrum, NoWhere." Emma was blown back again, this time hitting the panel of boards and lights. Wires snaked around her, binding her further against the metallic motherboard. "You will stay until an equal exchange is made. My life or yours, who will the humans choose?"

"Step into the light!" Two heavy footsteps rang in the silence, Emma gasped. "It's you!" She realized, the robot she had seen inside of the tank. "Yes, it is I."

Being shot wasn't exactly pleasant, but Irina was no stranger to death. She had died before - technically twice before, if you wanted to be specific. But disregarding that, it still hurt awfully just like every other time, the bullet to the chest, she could feel the blood coming up, and all her mind could think of was that this simulation was very realistic. She coughed and wheezed on the ground, struggling to get back up but unable to. Then Emma came at last while Lise was playing distraction, the battle was over. "I'm... fine." She said, spitting out the blood to the side so it didn't dirty Emma. "Are you... okay?" She asked gently, but before she got an answer Emma vanished once again winked out of existence. Lise stared back, eyes narrowing. "What the hell, this never happ-"

Then suddenly everything was black, and then reality returned. Irina coughed, rubbing her chest where she had been shot in wonder. Why was it over, wasn't there still more left to the battle? "Are you alright?" Cyrus asked, dashing over to her in an instant. "You got to feel death, that's - did it hurt?" Irina shook her head, she didn't care about that right now. "Emma, something weird happened." Lise looked pale and she pointed over to bed Twenty-Two. Everyone else had woken up, but Emma... was still just lying there, as if she was still in the simulation. Irina felt sick - something was wrong. If Emma was asleep, how was she able to exist? She shouldn't, if Emma was just sleeping she would have vanished then and there, unless... "Professor Pablo!" Irina shouted, no longer caring about rank or beck and call.

"She's still in the simulation!" That was the best conclusion she could come up with. Maybe it was a mistake to reveal this card so early, but she needed to, it was an emergency. Anyone suspicious of her would find this as more proof that she was a Spirit, but Miiko's well being mattered most right now, more than the mission. "Are you positive?" Pablo asked, his usual flounciness all but gone. Irina nodded, gritting her teeth. "Otherwise she would have waken up, turn it back on, put me back in, I'll break her out! Pablo sighed, and then he put down his pen. "It doesn't work like that... this might be... no, I need to do this.

Undoubtedly, class was dismissed. Irina was able to get permission to give Emma the bitter rabbit consisting of her rose, just in case something went wrong. Conductor Roz allowed it, a rare moment of mercy from the usually strict man. Meanwhile Pablo was in his office, alone, contacting Nino through the channel. It was he after all who helped her escape. After the battle of Everett Island, Pablo knew Nino wasn't going to find happiness here, she needed to get away from Capitol City. So as a friend, he gave her a way out - as well as a private channel so that they could communicate just in case there was an emergency. "Nino, I know you're there. Answer me, we have an emergency, it's about the SimulCrum." His lavender hair flopped as sweat ran down his brow. "One of our cadets might be in danger, I'll send you all the information you need. Let's work together, because you still owe me one favor."

"It is not what I want from you, but from the humans," the android spoke, his voice having turned awfully human like. "To shut me down," Emma blinked twice, rather confused. "Then why me?" She asked, the wires snaking up her clothes. Not in a perverted manner, but it felt as though the wires were biting into her skin. "You saw me, you recognized my potential for greatness and yet, irrevocable horror." Emma was not certain what to say, "I will inform the humans of the deal, of course." The android spoke, "remain quiet," Emma attempted to protest but a rather large wire slapped over her mouth and she was forced into silence.

"Humans," every screen within the underwater building suddenly flickered on. At first the shot only showed Emma, bound against the wall, wires snaking around her as though alive. "I have taken one of your own and implanted a virus within her." The camera whirled until it trained on the half built android. There were wires sticking out of his head, his flesh was a patchwork of peach colored skin and silver titanium. "Should you not give me what I want, the virus will attach itself to the human and she will be unable to return to your world. However, if you abide by my terms I will return her to you, unharmed. Present me with your offer, that is all," the screen zoomed back to show Emma, who was squirming against her bindings; a fly caught in the web of the spider. The screen blinked out, becoming black. A list of terms was displayed, flashing on every electronic surface.

The wire on top of her nose and mouth unplugged, Emma could speak and breathe once more. She gasped for air, leaning limply forward. In her eyes was nothing but fierce determination. "Why would you do this! I'm on your side! I'm part of the Republic!" Ronan turned very calmly towards her, "if humans want to wage wars then they must do it with other humans." Perhaps the humans had made the android a bit too life like. "But you're a robot! You don't have to feel or understand!" This was the wrong answer, the wires tightened, constricting around her throat. "And soon you will be too." The humans would have to choose, years of research and advancement, thousands of hours of meticulous planning and the lives of millions saved, or the rescuing the life of one puny human.

A wire attached to the back of her head, Emma gasped as something filled her body. Not pain per say, more like weightlessness. Numbers scrolled across her vision and for but a moment her eyes turned green. 1% flashed in bright blue when she closed her vibrant orbs. "What is that?!" She asked, slightly panicked. "That is the virus, should it reach one hundred, your body will no longer able to exist without the help of machines. In a sense, you will become an android." Her eyes burned with tears of anger. "Aren't you a bit of a hypocrite!" She bit back, "You'll save yourself but at the expense of another!"

"I am not disposing of you, nor am I killing you." The robot explained ever so calmly, "I am merely giving the humans a choice. Will they chose to shut me down and perhaps give another attempt at my resurrection, or will they give into my terms and save you. I am, after all, the only one with the power to stop the virus."

Irina and Lise both stormed down the hall to Pablo's room upon hearing the transmission. Neither of them were going to stand for this, and Pablo was already hard at work. Nino was initially going to refuse, but when she realized it was Miiko at risk, she couldn't, she wouldn't dare let such a horrible fate befall the princess of Yavin. "Nino." Lise said in surprise, seeing her face on the screen. "You traitor! Why are you relying on her, Pablo?!" Pablo frowned unhappily, twisting his tie. "Because we're both geniuses, if we work together, we could come to an answer together." Irina pretended not to care that Nino was on the case. "Just give in to the demands, that's my sister, that's Sam's sister! Isn't family important to the Republic?" Because Emma was holding the bitter rabbit, Prisca could summon her rapier if she needed to.

"Calm down." Nino warned her directly, because she knew Irina was inches away from doing something that would blow both her cover and Miiko's as well, not to mention Sam's. That would be three high tier agents lost because one couldn't keep her cool. "That's my sister"! The peerless ice princess was keeping the act up, even now. "We want to find if there's any other way first." Pablo explained, shaking his head. "But if there isn't, then we won't have a choice. Don't worry, if the virus reaches fifty percent, we'll give in to the demands of the robot." Self destruction was an odd demand to ask for, but Pablo would comply, no matter how much work went into building this substitute for human soldiers. It could save lives, yes, but he didn't want to give up family. "Sam values family more than love." Irina said, a clear threat. "He won't forgive you if you let his sister die, Pablo."

Of course this meeting wasn't just the four of them here, but also there were three others paying attention to the stream from the Capitol Hall where L, Sam, and Orianna were. "That's my sister, L. That's family, if I'm really a son to you, you have to save her." L grit his teeth. This project could save so many lives... but he couldn't sacrifice the life of one of his own. And Sam was one of his own, so by extension, anyone he cares about was under his banner as well. "Family is what matters most." L said, perhaps as one of his core tenets. But then the door was knocked on, and the board of Senators entered, with devilish smiles on their faces.

"You can't disable Project Ronan, you worked so hard on it! For just one human life, we can save millions!" They argued, willing to use their political clout if they needed to. They could freeze L's power here and now if it meant they preserved the project. "When you first proposed this project, we willingly gave you money, and now you're going to throw our money down the drain?" Another Senator clapped a hand on Sam's shoulder. "Sacrifice one for the sake of many. You can't ignore the big picture for just one life." Naturally, those in the undersea rainbow science labs were all hearing this. Pablo muted the microphone, so that the Senate couldn't hear.

"Nino." Pablo said softly. "If it comes to it, I'll give you full access to the system. I won't turn my back on Sam... but we can't anger the Senate. I'll need you to hack in and self destruct Ronan if there's no other answer... and then we can blame it on a Rebel terrorist attack." Would Nino accept this offer? "The Senate will know it's you, they might take Orianna to interrogate her about you, so it's your decision."

"I'll do it if it comes down to it," Nino replied with a nod. In the real world Emma was being swarmed by medics, they needed to keep her hydrated, they needed to monitor her for change, all while maintaining the delicate balance of the SimulCrum devices so that they didn't accidentally disconnect her and jolt the virus into 100%. "Don't worry, I'm not going to let this happen," Nino said, her voice ever so calm.

Ten percent, it was growing late and Emma was tired. Every time she drifted off she received a jolt of electricity to her spine. "Please, just let me sleep," Emma whimpered. "No," the robot replied. "I'm hungry," Emma said, "then think of other things," was the robot's response. "I'm bored," her head was whipped back, a wire began snaking up her nose. She coughed and retched, however nothing came up. "Stop-stop! I take it back," she could feel the wire move deeper, evoking a scream. "I was created to interrogate and torture your kind," Emma whimpered, "I can sense what you are, light bearer." She stiffened, hoping that this was no longer being streamed. "You're wrong," panic ensued. If they removed her glove in the real world they would see the light bearing mark.

If someone recognized the mark as Miiko's, her cover would be blown. "Am I child of light?" Her glove was torn in half, revealing the cat in its prissy little crown with a rose. "If you do not cooperate I will tell the humans about what you are," Emma had no choice but to stay quiet now. Her arms ached, her legs were sore, but there was no escaping. She hated the sensation of wires crawling up and down her body, of connecting to every nerve and fiber, a sense of violation so disgusting it made Emma shiver. "Why Ronan?" Emma asked at last, "why did they pick that name?" Ronan had been staring at the blinking lights for who knows how long. If Emma closed her eyes, she could see a great big 10% behind her lids.

"You are familiar with Ira Shoku I am sure," Emma nodded, you had to live underneath a rock if you didn't know who the tyrant Ira Shoku was. "Ronan was his first soldier, his ultimate weapon." The android flexed his fingers, or at least that's what Emma thought he was doing. "Someone is attempting to break in," he stuck his fingers into nodes in the wall, numbers scrolling across his eyes a he reinforced the protection on the strange place. Emma of course didn't understand what was keeping Irina from her, if the matter was killing off one stupid android, then wouldn't Irina have hunted him down and ended him? "Your thoughts are very loud child, your friends will not come for you here, they cannot touch my defenses." There were only two people who could and currently they were working together to break the code.

The android would not let it be broken, he would have his terms be met, or he would sacrifice the child. "You won't tell them will you? If you tell them, they'll kill me themselves," the android considered this. "No, I will not reveal this information," he decided, "so long as I receive what I want."

Letting Pablo and Nino handle the details, Irina stormed out. She was powerless in Pablo's office, there was nothing she could do there to help Emma, but there was certainly something else she could do. Lise followed her footsteps hurriedly. "Don't, don't do anything rash." Lise warned carefully. "Pablo's a brother to me, he won't fail us! Just believe in him, okay?" The naive child didn't want to think that maybe Pablo's stonewalling by the Senate would be enough to stop him. Something definitely had to be done here. Emma - Miiko - she was under Irina's protection! In front of the Project Ronan pod were Jonah and Cyrus, trying to push their way past the staff in order to get a good look at it.

"Move aside!" Lise ordered loudly, holding up her ID card. "As a member of the Elite Four, I outrank you, so step aside and let me and my friends through!" The science staff meekly raised their hands and backed away. "I tried calling my dad, to get his help for this." Cyrus offered, looking very much terrified. "He hung up, I don't know what's happening up on the surface." Jonah too was devoid of his usual jokes and banter, he was staring at the android intently. "All we need to do is kill it, right?" Irina tore a metal bar off of the wall, once used for helping hang things, now it was a weapon. "I'll do it, you all stay out of my way." But before she could, Lise held her arm back. "Iri, you can't! You can't!"

Irina turned to stare at her, pushing her away. "Why not? Emma's in danger, she's my family, I have to save her." It was all pretty clearcut for her, but Lise was adamant about this. "You can't, Pablo will take care of it! If you break it, you'll be out of my protection, the Senate, they'll hang you for breaking Capitol property, you can't!" Cyrus didn't even try defending his father. "I'm surprised you're here with us, Cyrus." Jonah noted, and Cyrus grunted harshly. "Right now I'm here as a cadet, and all the cadets here are my family. As a cadet, I'll do whatever I can to save Emma." Irina was a spirit, she was already dead, so she didn't care about what consequences may come for her.

But before Irina could break the glass someone else came to interrupt. Conductor Roz was here, and his face was stern, as if he had gone through losses before. He had to, if he was a military man, it was a part of the definition. "Don't stop me, Conductor. This is my sister." Irina muttered, ready to perform an act of sacrifice if it meant saving Emma. "Who said I'm here to stop you?" The Conductor replied gruffly, taking the metal bar from Irina's grip. "As a Conductor, my job is to make sure the cadets under my protection survive until they Graduate. The Senate will have a harder time punishing me than you, Reisser, so I'll be the one to do the honors."

"I want... sleep," Emma murmured, her head lolling. A shock traveled up her spine, causing her to jolt upright. 30%, it was already getting hard to breathe although perhaps that was the claustrophobia of being tied down and connected to several thousand wires. "My predecessor was a bearer of darkness, artificial, the same, in a way, as I." Emma was hardly listening, it was hard to hear with a wire in one ear. Emma blinked once, twice, she wondered if the static across her eyes was because she was going to be electronic. "Why me? Why not Cyrus or Jonah?" She asked, attempting to swat a wire away from her mouth with a shake of her head. "Because you-"

"No! For real! Why did you chose me!" Emma shouted, thrashing. Ronan was quiet for a moment, a wire behind his eyes sparking. "Because you are the smallest, they will risk everything to rescue you." Ronan replied at last, "That's not true! Lise is the youngest!" But Lise was also the strongest. "You should have held the Senator's son hostage, that would have had a bigger impact, or-" but Ronan only shook his head. "You do not understand politics child, be quiet." There was a groan from somewhere within the walls. "It seems that they are attempting to break the chamber," Ronan turned towards the wall. Emma felt another plug, this one connecting in the back of her neck. She cried out in pain as the screen turned on, allowing Ronan to watch as they mobbed his body. Emma felt what tasted like blood trickle out of her mouth. "Hungry," she murmured, not having eaten breakfast.

"I just wanted to be a good cadet," one of her eyes had turned green, there was an endless scrawl of code. They were at forty five percent now, Emma was quickly fading but she was not allowed the mercy of falling into unconsciousness, "I wanted to kill rebels," she whispered, "for what they did to my family." Ronan ogled her, "but you are a rebel." Emma shook her head, "No, I'm not." His eyes blinked, refocusing. "Emma White, are you not the one responsible for the attack on the orphanage?" Her head jerked up. Ronan played back the video caught on a security camera behind Emma's left eye, allowing her to watch as the chaos ensued and little Emma was seen with a box of matches, disappearing. "That's not... that's not... it was a bomb! It came from the sky!" Her hands shook in terror, Emma couldn't have been the one to have killed all of those children.

"Correct," Emma's head jerked up. "I only wanted to observe human emotion," she sighed and leaned her head back. "Humans are curious creatures, what other emotions can you show me?"

"Wait!" Someone ran into the room, "you can't kill it like that! The android is made to resist all physical assault!" The scientist was panting, "the only way to take him down is with the back up program and only Pablo has the ability to do that."

The glass was shattered by the metal bar, shards flying all over the place. Irina watched impassively, but before the robot itself could get destroyed scientists came to disrupt them, telling them that physical damage wouldn't be enough to stop them, only Pablo - or someone with similar levels of access were allowed to. "Haven't you heard of the laws of robotics?" Irina hissed coldly, kicking the scientist to the wall. "A robot is supposed to value human life, not do something idiotic like this." But even as the ice princess, she was just a random girl spouting words. Conductor Roz and Lise, however, had authority and power. "If Emma dies, that's blasphemy against the ELite Four." Lise said, holding out her ID Card. "And the military will stop funding you nerds, for letting this happen." Cyrus held out his card as well. "As the son of a Senator, I won't stand for this either." He added his weight to their words.

Pablo hadn't been sitting on his ass this whole time, naturally. He had given Nino perfect administrative access, and even if Nino acted as if she didn't care, little did Pablo know just how important this girl named Emma was to the rebellion. So Nino, with Pablo's hands-off advice, was able to extract a copy of the programming used to create Ronan. "if you add a few more lines of codes here, his personality will be restrained by whatever laws you decide." Nino advised, fingers clattering rapidly against the keyboard. "I know you wanted to maintain the integrity of the source code, but that's irresponsible. You have to chain up the robot's freedoms until it's only option is to serve without any loopholes."

According to Nino, free will was what allowed Project Ronan to go rogue like this. Pablo was torn, however, he didn't like the idea of binding it with programming. "I wanted it to be able to respect human rules without using force like that." He explained himself sadly. "I gifted it with free will, and look at how it repays us. They could have given it sentience but made it unable to do anything but direct orders, but Pablo felt pity for an existence like that, so soulless, so empty and lifeless. He bestowed the will to do as one pleased instead, without any constraints in the code - and for his kindness, he was kicked in the balls, punished for having a heart. "You're too nice." Nino muttered. "In science, you can't have a heart, isn't that what it means to serve L?" She remembered the deaths of all those innocents at Everett Island... she wouldn't stand for something like that again.

Just as promised though, it was now at fifty, the virus progression. With the source code saved, they could easily recreate a new Project Ronan, but this time forcing it to act only within the bounds of human rules and laws. The door flung open and Pablo raised his hands. "I'm sorry, my arms are tied, the Senate ordered me not to do anything." He was smiling though, glasses glinting with dangerous ferver. "But it'd be a shame if I forgot to log out and someone from the Rebellion went into my account and ran the deletion program without me noticing, wouldn't it?" It was no or never, all Nino had to do was run the executable and then Emma would be saved. Irina was pointing a gun at him, even if Roz an Lise were trying to fight the gun out so she didn't do anything drastic. "Since you're family, I'll overlook that threat, okay, Reisser?"

55% it seemed that they were really risking it. Emma had gone numb, her throat hurt from where the wires were constricting her and she felt as though she were going to disappear into the wall of wires. Ronan suddenly grinned, it was calm and soft, almost gentle. "They are winning," he said softly. Emma too, smiled and laughed. "Of course," she choked, "they're my family." Her body went limp and if it were not for the wires constraining her she would have fallen. The wires slowly loosened, allowing Emma to crumple to the floor. "Light bearer, I almost envy you. Allowed to live in this world, to become anything you want so long as you keep that marking covered." He took a length of wire and wrapped it around Emma's hand to cover it up. No doubt the back door programming would take over any second. "I bet you have a family too. Pablo, he's your family isn't he? Aren't you hurting him?" Emma gasped weakly, looking up.

"Still awake? I'm surprised," Emma looked up. "If you let me go... I'll make sure that your family respects your wishes too," the wires were still attached to her head and neck, Emma was not out of the woods yet. Ronan considered this offer, they were already at 60%. Emma did not enjoy this sensation of being taken over by wires. "Ronan, in another world, I like to think we could have been friends," Ronan chortled. "That is impossible, you are a light bearer." Emma struggled to prop herself up. "When has that... ever stopped humans?" Ronan was silent for a moment. "Alright strange human, I will accept your offer. Your time is nearly up anyways." With a snap of his fingers the wires began to recede. With the disconnection, Emma's vision went blank and her body limp once more.

When Emma awoke she felt strange, almost tingly. She was being rushed somewhere on a stretcher. "I didn't do it," Pablo said, glancing at his screen. "Neither did I," Nina frowned. Had Emma somehow found a backdoor in the program? Had she convinced Ronan to free her? "I can review the tapes from inside of his head," Pablo spoke. Emma groaned and rolled onto her side. "Iri?" She croaked, her throat dry. "Irina?" Emma swallowed hard, there was a tingling underneath her nose, oxygen. "Lise?" Emma attempted to sit up, "don't move," she was warned. "Just lay down, we're taking you back to Capitol City to be seen by a Doctor."

"Irina... I won't go... without her." Captain Roz stood in the doorway, blocking their exit. Emma swallowed hard, feeling as though she was about to get berated. "Don't scare me like that again," he said, "when you return, you can expect your make up work won't be easy." Emma gave a slight nod, moaning in pain. "Yessir," she said, quickly falling back into unconsciousness.

The Senate were like vultures, corrupt people like them, even Sam had to admit that they were even worse than L. It was easy to dismiss them as ineffective politicians and blame L for everything, but L's power was surprisingly limited despite being the President. "Oh, Sam, we want to take you in for questioning, you know." One of the Senators said, coming close to him. The crisis was being dealt with, but these rabble rousers obsessed with maintaining stability at the cost of freedoms, they were causing trouble. "Why did the robot pick your sister? We really need to do a screening check on both of them, since we don't trust our President to have done so." One of them laughed nastily as a result of that jeer. "It's clear how corrupt L is, favoring his family and his Elites, putting them above the law and the average citizen."

"Disgraceful." Orianna snapped, brushing their hands away from Sam. It was no surprise that the Elite Four and their affiliated were all protective of one another, and of L as well. If that counts as corruption, it'd be hard to argue against that, since the evidence was clear for anyone to see. "Emma White is the victim here, not anyone for you to be suspicious about. If Pablo finds anything strange in the reports, he'll of course let you know." Senator Dennings smiled like an insect cornering his prey. "I insist on being there in person to examine the report." These conniving paranoid old folks, afraid of having their people killed and kidnapped and sold by the Enryans again, were happy to stomp all over anyone else to maintain their power and superiority. It was a cycle of fear and hatred that controlled the world here.

And that was how Sam awakened to his light bearing gift, when everything was about to be ruined, when he was about to lose his place here, light was given to him, a means to fight and find a way out. Back in the house with Prisca and Miiko, it was time for them to speak candidly about what they needed to do now. They naturally waited for Miiko to wake up, but then they had their meeting. Aria was in another room, struggling with learning the common language. "Miiko, Roz gave us the rest of the week off, because of the SimulCrum scare." Prisca said quietly, looking to her, holding the bitter rabbit close to her. "Sam has an announcement."

The prince of the rebellion cleared his throat and spoke firmly. "Just this afternoon I realized I'm a light bearer... which means chances are, I'll have a Spirit waiting for me somewhere." He didn't even question it, he just knew he was destined to have a Spirit. "We're going to go on a cruise through the nearby islands to try and find it, using your incident as an excuse for some off time." He hooked his thumb to the other room where they could hear Aria and Yui fighting over words. "Aria will come with us, so Miiko, if there's any rumors or stories that might hint at a Summoner, make sure to let me know." They can't afford to let any stone remain untouched.

Prisca had to admit that she was curious about something though. "...What even is your power?" She asked her supposed big brother. "Is it strong?" It was evident that the Martyr was hoping for a demonstration.

Emma slept through the transport to the Capitol City hospital, after the submarine there was an ambulance ride and then a visit to the ER, where she was checked up and given a clean bill of health. Sam was waiting there anxiously, sitting beside Irina and thumping his foot against the floor. They went around Emma's glove, perhaps believing it to be some sort of injury that she wore it for and not wanting to cause the sleeping girl pain. He carried Emma back to the car, the poor girl still asleep. "I think it's just trauma, she should wake up soon," the Doctor had said. "There was no physical damage, but being held hostage will always leave some sort of impact on the mind." Luckily Emma did not seem to be suffering from nightmares, but merely sleeping peacefully.

When Emma at last awoke she was laying on the couch in Sam's house, surrounded by the people she cared about and Aria. "Where?" Emma asked, Irina answering without hesitating. She sighed and rest her head on Irina's lap, glad that she could let her guard down. "I remember... he said something like that right before we left," Emma coughed, Sam ran to get her some water, returning with a tall refreshing glass. Emma sat up, the blanket falling off from around her shoulders as she gulped the water down greedily, liquid dribbling down her chin as a result. "Thanks," she set the glass down on the table, ignoring the shouting that was coming from the other room since she could not understand what was being said. "Ignore them, she's on that thing day and night," Sam mumbled and informed them of the news the of the trip.

"Show us! Show us!" Emma shouted greedily, sitting herself down on Irina's lap. "I don't think it's all that strong, I'm not sure what it is." Sam shut his eyes and concentrated, his appearance changing. "Wow, go look in the mirror! Isn't that cool Iri?" She inquired, looking at Sam's now blue hair and red eyes. Sam caught sight of himself and started, returning to his normal appearance. Emma had never seen the Prince frightened before, it was interesting to observe him. "So when do we leave?" She asked, looking between the girl she considered her older sister and the boy that had unintentionally become their caretaker. "Tomorrow, I'm going to prepare dinner now, no doubt you two are hungry," Emma had slept the entire day away after the scare yesterday. They had returned to Sam's abode in the early twilight hours and now it was almost bedtime once more.

"Aria, time to hang up!" Sam called, entering the kitchen to prepare dinner. "What happened?" Emma asked, getting off of Irina's lap to face her. "While I was in there I mean, I'll explain what happened inside once you tell me what was going on outside." Emma listened, hugging the bitter rabbit toy that Irina had so cleverly remembered to bring along.

The two were back at Sam's house now, where they didn't have to act as Irina and Emma anymore, but as Prisca and Miiko, their real selves. It was a relief, putting on an act was tiring if there weren't breaks in between for the real identity to poke through. "Welcome back, Miiko." She said, patting her sister's head which was resting on her lap al snuggled in. Sam showe doff his power, revealing that he could change his appearance. "Suits a spy, doesn't it? Can you use it to hide your mark?" Sanaa and Kennan had gone back to Yavin already, the twins were taking care of their own things - Sanaa with Athena, and Kennan helping transport materials around the island to rebuild the boats, working with the construction people. How easy life would be if both she and Miiko could hide their marks.

"Read through the diary, okay?" Aria said, and then shut off the monitor after waving a goodbye to Yui. She blushed a little then and stared at the ground, grey pigtails bouncing with every step. "H-h-hello?" For someone who used to be so brash and confident in everything, the wind mage certainly was very unsure about herself here. "Hungry." She still didn't know enough of the common language to fit in, so they would have to be careful about who gets to see her and who doesn't. "Hey." Prisca managed. "She can mostly understand now, she just has trouble speaking." Sam said helpfully as dinner was served at the table for the four of them. It was a sort of chowder stew type dish with special looking bread you could dip into the broth. "No hard feelings... a-about, before? Wh-when I killed you?" Aria looked at her, then shook her head.

Sam gave her a light slap on the wrist for that, looking very much like a disciplinarian. "Use your words, not body language." He ordered and the ex-idol rolled her eyes dramatically, drumming her fingers against the table. "N-no hard feelings." She said, still unable to articulate much except for very basic sentences, or in repeating what someone else was saying. They both had lost so much, their entire families, almost everyone they loved - there was no reason to hold any grudge for being on opposite sides of the war, not now at least. Especially since they were allies now, working together on the side of the light. "Let's be friends, Aria." Aria was quiet but shook her hand. "Friends." She offered her hand to Miiko too, looking a tiny bit timid despite herself.

"A whole lot of politics." Prisca muttered unhappily. She recounted how Roz was willing to put his career in danger to save her, how Jonah and Cyrus were there to help break the glass, how the Senate was trying to shut down the server, how Nino and Pablo worked together to try and shut down Ronan, but somehow before they could finish he ended it first. Now was time for Miiko to tell them what happened on her end, of course. "If it's hard, you don't have to tell us right now." Aria looked bewildered, all of this probably went right over her head.

Miiko listened, eating her stew and bread diligently. She was careful not to over eat, which was what she had used to do. Miiko was working on her weight, she wanted to be healthy and cute, not small and awkwardly pudgy. "I'm surprised they were willing to risk so much for a girl they hardly know," she swallowed and wiped her mouth on a napkin. "Especially considering we'll need to betray them in the end," that part was not something that Miiko was looking forward to, however it was a given that they would eventually need to double cross the group that was becoming a strange family. "Unless we can turn them all into rebels." Miiko leaned back in her seat. "Jonah I'm certain we can convince, it's Cyrus whose such a devoted ninny to his Father that it'd be like asking to cut off his own arm." This would all come in time, once they were certain that they could trust them.

"Your speech is getting better, that's good," Miiko smiled kindly at Aria, hoping to make her feel as though she fit right into their strange dynamic. "I guess it's my turn now to tell you all that happened," Miiko recounted what it was like. The strange wires that connected to her body, seeing numbers scrawl across her vision as though she were a machine, and promising Ronan that she would shut him down. "I didn't get to, but I have a feeling that Pablo won't be tampering with artificial intelligence for a little while." Miiko squirmed in her seat, feeling Sam's eyes on her when she mentioned Pablo. "He was probably so worried. I'm sure you all were," Miiko of course had omitted the painful parts like getting shocked every time she tried to drift off, or the unfathomable pain that had filled her body as the virus was downloading.

"Ronan was surprised that I was still awake at sixty percent, I think by then he expected that I wouldn't be able to speak." Sam brought out dessert, chocolate ice cream drizzled with something called peanut butter sauce. "They sure do have strange things here, but I like it." Miiko could only take a few bites, however, before she became pleasantly full. Miiko stood and stretched, "I was hoping to get another go at the SimulCrum, although the first time was kind of terrifying, especially after that whole thing with Ro-" Miiko stopped as though realizing something and turned to look at Aria. "Ronan... was your friend wasn't he? He kept mentioning someone named Shoku." Sam cleared plates and began washing dishes. "Oh, I should help!" She jumped up, feeling suddenly dizzy.

"But maybe I should take it slow," she sat back down, her head spinning. "I think nearly getting turned into a robot can make up for all of the missed classwork. Ahaha, Roz isn't going to be so happy," Sam had reentered the dining room to gather more plates. "Don't mind Roz, he acts tough but really he's a softy. Don't tell him I said that though," Sam winked, collecting Emma's bowl and spoon and taking it to the kitchen to be cleaned. "Ready?" Miiko asked Rose, "I think I can turn in a little early." Would Rose carry Miiko if she asked nicely? Miiko was too sore to walk.

Jonah was a mystery, and Rose felt as if maybe he had a deeper story than he let on. Still, he didn't have family connections to the Republic or anything so there was a chance he wouldn't be too hard to convince. Cyrus would be more difficult, naturally. "...Cyrus was pretty angry at his father for trying to stop the shut down of Project Ronan." She grimaced, but it was probably in bad taste to directly bring it up to Aria who was doing her best to pretend she didn't notice that name being called. "I should have protected you, Miiko, I'm sorry, I'm a bad Spirit." Miiko was her responsibility and yet she failed. Aria shook her head, a pained smile etching her mien. "No hard feelings." She said, repeating what Priscsa had said earlier.

Aria got up and decided to help with the dishes. "Sleep." She said to Miiko with a roguish wink, one that people who knew her before would recognize. But since no one here was really her family, they only saw it as a part of her personality that they couldn't yet really get to know, not until she got more familiar with the language and could express themselves better. But no one could deny the big sister instinct Aria had as she patted Miiko's head and tapped Prisca's shoulder. "I'll carry you, let's get to bed, okay?" It wouldn't do for Miiko to push too hard. "We'll be hunting for Sam's Spirit for the next few days, it's gonna be busy." She bade goodnight to Sam and Aria and hoisted Miiko's familiar weight into her arms, heading to their room. She gently placed Miiko on her position on the bed. Rose too was prepared to get some well needed rest, and it wasn't long until she dissipated into light and returned to her home in the rose, carefully hidden inside the bitter rabbit.

There was a three way call going on, all on Pablo's private server, where no one could get in unless they had special permissions from him, as the admin. The other two speaking were Lise and Orianna, and all three of them had something very important to discuss. "Emma White is a light bearer." Pablo said, reporting in to Lise and Orianna. They couldn't bring this up in front of Sam - or perhaps, Pablo was too afraid to. "I know." Lise said with a flippant shrug. "I lifted her glove once when she was sleeping and saw." Everyone here knew Lise too was a light bearer. "She wouldn't admit it when I brought it up to her before." Orianna was quiet, pensive. "And there's no way Sam wouldn't know about this, he's too careful."

But then, what could this mean? "If we tell L, the Senate will find out, they'll force him to imprison her." Lise said hotly, cheeks flared. "Don't even think about reporting this, she's my friend! I promise, she isn't a danger to anyone!" No one could think the cute clumsy yet skilled girl could hurt a fly. "Irina probably knows too." Pablo added, almost as an after thought. "Why would Sam hide this from us? Does he not trust us?" No one was going to report anything, but that still begged the question... why didn't Sam trust them like they trusted him?

"What does the situation look like?" Jace Miya inquired, standing behind Nino, carefully out of sight. "She's out of the woods, it seems that Miiko managed to worm her way out right in the nick of time." Jace breathed a sigh of relief, "that's my girl." He pat Nino's shoulder and closed her computer. "Now, there's something we need to discuss about your sister Orianna. It seems that since she discovered you're alive, she's sent out a brigade to hunt for you. L and the Senate both want you alive, naturally." Nino nodded, she had previously been an important pawn to them all, what with her natural skill for electronics; something that was hard to come by in this age. "I figured something like that would happen. Although I sort of hoped that they would believe Miiko and I had died in the boating incident." Nino grabbed hold of her wheels and headed towards the door. "Nino, you know what this means."

"Naturally," Nino responded, turning ever so calmly in the chair her butt was glued to. "It's a chance to convert Orianna," or at least capture and interrogate her, since Orianna was an essential pawn to L's chessboard. If they were to capture it, they would have a member of the Elite Four in their midst. Stella knocked, entering the room without so much as answer. Essie was waiting outside for her, naturally. "How is Miiko?" Stella asked, pretending to be casually cleaning up. "Well she's no longer in danger if that's what you mean, but I doubt it's for long considering Miiko has always been a bit of a big mouth." Jace replied, leading Stella out of the room towards where Athena had set up dinner for the group.

It was there that he broke the news that two of the their operatives had been in great danger, now they were out of that situation there were still going to be plenty more. "I can' take it! I need to find Miiko and bring her back, this was a mistake on your part." Stella would not allow Miiko to be taken and beaten up by the same men that had done it to her. Miiko was so young and innocent, they could do bad things to Stella all they wanted but they needed to leave Miiko alone! "Stella, Sam isn't going to let anything bad happen to Miiko." Jace assured her, grabbing her wrist, "come eat dinner. We need you here, what about Yui? You can't just abandon her," Yui wasn't her sister, but Stella did feel some sort of odd protectiveness over her.

"Fine," Yui looked up, her nose having been buried in one of the few books Jace had managed to get his hands on. "No fighting at the dinner table," Athena scolded, seeming weak today. She had hardly managed to get out of bed today, it was a wonder she was sitting at the table. "Athena, please don't push yourself," Jace begged, wrapping his arms around her waist and kissing her forehead.

In the morning they had breakfast, but then they needed to go. There wasn't much time - there were so many possible places where Sam's destined Spirit could be hiding, so many places that they had to search if they wanted to find it. There wasn't much time, only four days before they had to report back, since Miiko had slept a whole day away and all. "Here we are, it's my boat." Sam said in an almost bashful way. Irina had already seen it, and they needed to play the part of their roles yet again. She was still carrying Emma, just in case she needed it. Pablo and Orianna were at the dock to see them off. Of course none of them knew about the reasons why they were sailing out.

"Good luck, Sammy boy." Pablo leaned in to give Sam a kiss, playful and flirtatious all over again. "I hope this cruise helps take your mind off of what happened." Pablo knelt down and patted Emma on the nose fondly. "And I hope you won't be afraid to try the SimulCrum again." Irina grinned, back to her peerless self again. She hoped that her taking the flawlessly haughty mask off for a moment down in the labs wasn't going to ruin the facade. "What are you doing here, don't you have cadets to train?" She mocked him teasingly. Orianna wasn't quite so flouncy, of course. "Take care, all three of you." She looked Sam in the eye, like an older sister of his. "Sam, you can tell me anything, I'll always be willing to listen, no matter what secret you're keeping." Sam gave her a hug, and Irina wondered how much of it was acted. "It makes me glad to know I have a friend like you." Luckily Aria had created an illusion, making herself invisible upon exiting the house so that Pablo and Orianna saw neither hide nor hair of her.

And now it was time to set sail! "You and Aria are Ornetian, right?" Irina asked and Sam nodded his confirmation. "Yes, because Ornet was once where the Japanese lived." Aria struggled to think of what to say for a few minutes. "N-never seen Ornet." She said stiffly, rubbing her knuckles. "Wonder how change it is." "Changed." Irina corrected her. "Changed it is." Aria blushed and then scowled, looking away. The four of them went to the control room where Sam would be inputting the autosail direction. "I heard a rumor, that there was some mysterious idol that Ornetians worship." She heard it during class one day, gossiping classmates, naturally. "Under an electric city."

At that Aria's eyes seemed to light up. "Akiba." She said, a word that meant nothing to anyone here. "Electric city." She said, trying to speak again, looking frustrated that no one knew what she was talking about. "Akihabara." Maybe if Irina had been a watcher of anime, she'd have known what it was, but she didn't. Sam however smiled at her and flicked her between the eyes, making her jump and then glare sourly. "Well, if you're familiar with Ornet too, if you know where to look, then I'll let you lead once we land." Sam looked to Irina and Miiko then. "Ornet is still Republic territory, so you two will have to keep the act up." Irina nodded. She knew that much at least.

Miiko ate her sandwich diligently, consuming about a quarter before Sam declared that he had finished packing. "I did too!" She piped up, pointing to her pink duffel that contained what little belongings she had. "Piggy back ride?" Miiko asked when Rose crouched down. Miiko obediently got on, putting on the mask of Emma, the timid little mouse. They piled into Sam's car, including Aria who was invisible and rather hard to keep track of. "How far is the dock from here?" Sam revved the engine, putting the car into reverse. "Not that far, although I have a feeling Pablo is going to be there." Sam pulled into forward and turned, going down the narrow street that had become oddly familiar to Emma. "Why?" She tilted her head to the side in question, the hand that was normally covered by a glove wrapped up in bandages today.

By the time they reached the dock the road was already crammed with cars on their way to work. Emma rode on Irina's back, the trio approaching the ship from the side. Up on deck were Pablo and Orianna, one looking stern but happy, the other waving ecstatically to his boyfriend. Emma buried her face in Irina's shoulder when Pablo touched her nose. "I-I won't!" She said in an attempt to be brave. Orianna was rather cryptic with Sam, who needed and confirmed that there were no secrets. Emma was not aware that they knew her secret, Ronan had promised to keep it from them but the recording of what went on his mind was sent to Pablo, who had been able to review it and see that Emma was a light bearer. Perhaps he had some hope that Sam was unaware and was not keeping this secret from them?

By the time Sam had rounded up Pablo and Orianna and got them off the ship, the sun was high in the sky. They set sail, Aria at last allowed to remove her veil and step back into the world of existing. "Welcome back," Miiko said, sliding off of Rose's back once they were far enough from shore. "This is a nice boat, almost as nice as the North Star." Sam grinned, "I was given it by L for what he considers diplomatic missions, but I think he won't mind if I take it out for a spin for personal purposes." Miiko tapped her chin thoughtfully, "Won't the others become suspicious if you return with another orphan?" Miiko inquired, taking a seat in the Captain's chair. "No, because I told Pablo that I believe there are more of us out there. Which is why we're starting off in Ornet."

"Electric city?" Miiko looked between Rose and Aria, whom Sam and Miiko had walked in on in the lounge area of the ship. "Maybe that's what she's saying? That Akihabara, or whatever means Electric City?" Miiko sat down beside Aria, gazing up at her curiously. The two had never had any formal introduction, although Miiko didn't think that one was truly needed. "Well for now we can let loose," Miiko sighed and took out her bitter rabbit. "Yui has one of these too," she said, showing it to Aria. "I gaver her mine when I left Yavin."

They were sailing out now, heading out to the seas. No doubt Orianna would go back to handling the community outreach program to help bring the government and the people together, that her was job whenever they weren't out fighting the war, and Pablo slipped into a submarine to go back to the science lab under the sea. The three - well, four, if you counted the invisible Aria - were well on their way out in the open ocean, headed to the west across the great Pacific blue sea, to reach Ornet, once known as the Land of the Rising Sun. "It's nice to be out of the Capitol City for a while." It was time to get an update on things going on, since Sam was connected with Nino's server back on Yavin.

"Sanaa and Kennan were sent to keep an eye on things in Aurum for now." Sam was giving them their update of things they needed to know. "I think Jace wants them to find their assigned Spirit." The two Vorkov twins were chasing rumors in Aurum of a Summoner up there, with luck, they would find it. Apparently it had something to do with angels, but it wasn't like Prisca knew much about it. "Stella, Essie, Gavin, and Callum are very strong on the missions they fight, and apparently Jace is planning a meeting with the leader of the Enryan Militia." Enrya, the island that warred with Capitol City many times in the past, with horrible atrocities being committed on both sides of the conflict. As they were talking about this, Aria and Miiko were talking about Yui, Aria was trying to swap stories of how the Immortal Girl was really just some little cute harmless thing that the world just wanted to hurt and break, no matter what they did.

Aria fumbled with her words, however. "C-could not beat Shoku." Her face twisted in pain and she rubbed at the mark on her hand. "Turned dark. Controlled." Aria, Nemesis, the Strongest of the light bearers of her time. The successor of her title in this time period was Stella, naturally, it'd be interesting to watch them at it. "Will not lose... t-to L." Her eyes seemed to flicker over a faint memory. "Someone. K. Bad. Maybe L same." She patted the bitter rabbit and then her eyes went wide, remembering something, someone. Her sister, she could feel a part of that girl inside of the rabbit. "Keep safe." She told Miiko, referring to the rabbit. Her sick little sister was connected to it, in some way.

Sam had poured drinks for them, some sort of fruit punch for the four of them, in fancy glasses with a lemon wedge on the top. Prisca thanked him for the glass and he continued the story, telling them about Athena's help and the recent battle protecting Contralto from an attempt to retake it. "How are Daisy and Jellyfish?" Sam's shoulders slackened then, just for a moment. "We don't know." He said simply. "They vanished one night, stole a boat, we have no idea where they could be." That... that wasn't good, that couldn't be good at all. "Jace thinks Stella knows something about it, but she isn't saying anything." Rose was quiet... then asked the forbidden question. "How is Essie?" Sam looked away, confirming her suspicions - Sam knew about Prisca's past, about her crime. "She isn't ready to forgive you yet, but she accepts that you're a member of the team." The prince of the rebellion said, almost kindly. "She's willing to work on the same side as you, so maybe one day, you two will be sisters again." Prisca nodded, rubbing at her eyes before tears could come, unable to say anything more.

"Yui told us a little bit about it," Miiko agreed with a nod. She flinched when Aria touched her bitter rabbit because the rose was inside of it. "Of course I'll protect her!" Miiko gave the toy a good cuddle. "Her name is Lizzy," it was a general rule that if someone named something they would become attached to it. "Yui said that when you died, she become so full of grief that it all just exploded and well... she should probably be the one to tell you what comes next." The destruction of the world and the belief that Yui, the Immortal Girl was some sort of Goddess or deity to be revered and worshiped. At first, Miiko had believed that it was all just Newworlder mamba and whatnot, but now she could tell that their worship of Yui was rightful. Yui was incredibly powerful, the most powerful light bearer in existence with the ability to end the world.

Aria had been the most powerful while she was alive and in this generation it was Stella who was the strongest. Yui didn't want to be, she didn't want to believe that she could destroy worlds like that, end lives so easily with the flick of a switch. She had passed the mantle on, although the power resided inside of her should she ever need to access it. "I'm sure Yui misses you so much, don't give up learning the language! You'll see her soon!" Aria, unfortunately was a terribly recognizable light bearer, therefore using her to fight undercover would be nearly impossible. Would she want to continue to fight? "K? L? Um, doesn't K come after L in the alphabet? Maybe there's some relation!"

If they could prove it and expose L for what he truly was, would he be discharged from service? The senate would jump at it, but they wouldn't allow the senate to take over either. "It's going to be difficult proving it since all official documents o that period were wiped out." Miiko swung her legs on the bench, accepting a sparkling fruit punch from Sam. "Oh, don't cry! It's a good thing Rose!" Miiko placed her drink down on the table and threw her arms around her spirit. "Don't worry, if there's any forgiveness in her heart I'm sure she'll be able to recognize you as her sister one day." Miiko almost wished that Stella felt the same. Instead her sister had thrown a constant stream of insults. Of course there was no way to know that Stella was attempting to retrieve her.

"So how long until we get there?" Miiko asked, picking up her drink once more. "At the speed we're going, we won't be there before morning."[/color] Miiko's jaw dropped. "Morning! But that's so far away!" Miiko had been on a boat for longer, she was just impressed with how far they were going and at the rate they were moving.

Remembering how Yui screamed before everything went dark, Aria flinched. She didn't want to think about the pain Yui must have felt, the immense light bursting out of her in that fateful moment, it was horrible. Of course there was only one possibility from what Miiko said, how else could the world have changed so much? Yui always was a mermaid, so that was it then, Yui destroyed the world and made a new one, and now the peace of this world was in danger again, and somehow, her sister, M, was involved. "L... my time." She tried to explain. "K... L, not same." Sam was done with the Rebellion update and Irina had quelled her emotions as best as she could. "Yui would have noticed if the Goddess's power was coming from L." Irina mumbled, thinking. "So he's not a Spirit, so he and L can't be the same."

Family relations, perhaps? Much of what happened in the past was destroyed in the Calamity, there was hardly anything left from that time now. "I feel like the Senate is more dangerous, they tried to let you die, Mimi." They were the ones arguing against going along with Ronan's demands, sacrificing the few for the many. "They're all enemies, if we kill one, the other will take over the Republic." Sam said, thinking hard and long about this. "They both block each other's power, but if we only deal with one side, then there won't be any balance and checks left in the government structure." Meaning there won't be anyone in Capitol City to stop L or the Senate from doing whatever they pleased with the might of the Republic. "We have to take them both out at the same time." That was Prisca's conclusion to the puzzle, easier said than done.

Well, since they had a long time until arriving in Ornet, why not do something a little bit silly? "Aria, let's fight, I want to see what you can do." They did fight once, but Yui had interrupted then. She wanted another go at it, both of them at full strength. A competitive glow was in Aria's scarlet eyes, she was ready. "Yes." She said, a fanged grin decorating her pretty face. And that was how the four of them gathered on the deck up top, cold sea wind brushing against them, ruffling their clothes. As long as Prisca could predict three moves ahead, there was no way she could lose in single combat! She got in position, her rapier in hand, and then she focused hard on Aria's movements, and it all went into her head. Aria was going to make herself invisible, and then try to attack her from behind!

Rose knew what to do, she knew how to win this. So she prepared a defensive position and waited, waited, waited until the perfect moment, Aria had made herself invisible but if you listened closely you could hear the wind shuffling as she flew to get a better vantage point. Finally there it was, the charging of air, and Prisca stabbed out - but then she felt an impact on the other side, sending her crashing to the floor of the deck. A dragon of air appeared in the sky and chomped down right in front of her, and Aria reappeared with a grin. "Knew was listen." She said, making the dragon disappear with a magnificent sparkling boom. "Made wind, hide sound. I win!" Okay, fine, but that was because Aria was the strongest for a reason. "You win." Prisca conceded.

Miiko watched with a sense of amusement as Aria and Rose interacted, familiar because one had killed the other. "I don't think we should fight," but in the middle of the ocean, there was no one to hear them scream. "It's going to get cold out, you should put on your jacket." That's right, it was the middle of winter, Sam reminded Miiko. Miiko ran to her bag and tugged on her jacket, the four of them going to the top deck so that the two girls could fight. "Sam," Miiko said seriously, "if they discover that I'm a light bearer, act as though you didn't know. Whatever you do, don't reveal yourself." Miiko was serious, Sam was an essential operative within the Rebellion and if they lost him Miiko didn't know what she would do. "I'm afraid Ronan may have told them," he promised not to, but Miiko didn't now if robots were willing to act out of spite.

"Ah, I guess you lost," Miiko pat Rose's back comfortingly. "But at least you learned something out of it?" She gave a thumb's up to Aria, congratulating the winner. "It looks like after one hundred years, you've still got it." She giggled, growing rather bored of sitting on the ship. "Um, maybe we should go inside?" Miiko pointed to the rather large clouds forming above them, wondering if it had anything to do with the cold front. "Might snow," Sam murmured and Miiko grew excited. "I miss the snow!" Sam covered a few things on the deck and led them inside, steering them away from stormy seas. If they had to take a detour it would be a couple of extra hours until they reached Ornet, which was not what they wanted to happen.

"I'll start making dinner," Miiko wrinkled her nose. "I'll help!" She stripped off her jacket and skipped off into the galley with Sam to prepare the evening meal and give the two older girls a chance to reconnect and perhaps forgive as well as forget. Miiko on the other hand had nothing to recount and no battle that needed rematches. Therefore, she tied an apron around her waist and started on cutting up carrots. "What kind of plant does meat come from? I'm going to ask Mommy to plant it in her garden," she asked so innocently that Sam couldn't bring himself to tell her. "Um, they don't have it in Yavin, it's something that only grows on trees in Capitol City. Genetically engineered, you'd never be able to grow it there," Miiko frowned disappointingly. "I'll just tell them all about it!" She said instead.

The carrots were done, now Miiko was busily slicing up mushrooms and other vegetables for stir fry. "I've got the rice all ready," Sam said, placing it inside of the pan and beginning to fry all of the food up until the aroma filled the air and Miiko's stomach growled. "I can't wait to taste it!" She jumped down from the stool and placed her apron back inside of the drawer, assisting in portioning the rice onto four plates and carrying it to the table. "Dinner is served!"

Miiko was expressing concerns, ones that were greatly troubling for everyone here as they sailed towards Ornet, towards what was hopefully Sam's destiny. "I don't think he did." Yes, she despised Ronan for what he did, but the fact was that a robot, able to lie, it didn't really make sense to her. "I don't think it would break it's promise, it's a robot." Aria was decisively quiet, not having much to say about the fact that her lover's name was used for this sort of thing. She was unhappy that his legacy in this world was to exist as a secret government soldier project, and that the world seemed to forget about the good things about him. How protective he was, how dedicated he was to his family, how he lost so much and never gave up on fighting for happiness, no matter how hard it got.

Aria loved him - even now, her heart was longing for the beat of his. But in this world, because she was made to survive by her sister, to act as Yui's Guardian, she had to live in a world without Ronan, she had to miss every part of Luna's life. "Thanks, Yurei." She murmured under her breath in Japanese, for hopefully giving little baby Luna a good life in Yavin after kidnapping her from Ornet. "Good fight, Aria, you're the strongest for a reason." Prisca was willing to concede, she wasn't a sore loser or anything. Aria smirked back at her, there was something about her, it was almost like there was an animal in Aria's soul that longed for battle and bloodshed. She was a warrior at heart, who lived for combat. Miiko and Sam went to make dinner so the two were discussed battle tactics and strategies, Rose and Aria both were seemingly obsessed with violence, and then dinner was announced.

Stir fry filled the air and Prisca was salivating, she didn't even realize how hungry she was until the smell of delicious food wafted over to her. Right now on Yavin there was a desperate manhunt for Jellyfish and Daisy, there was Jace suspecting that Varus had something to do with it, that he somehow captured them and was holding them hostage, the diplomatic situation on Yavin was very tense and any moment it could break out into another fight if the two brothers let it. "Yummy." Aria said, nodding as she cleaned off her plate. The Martyr finished her food as well. "Maybe you two should compete with Gavin for cooking?" Gavin was apparently the best cook for the Rebellion, but this stir fry was really delicious, and that was coming from someone that disliked vegetables.

When that was done, Sam turned on the transmission, it was time for the daily report. Both Varus and Jace were there, and everything was on the verge of blowing up. "Varus, if you really are planning on stealing my light bearers, I won't forgive you. You were once my brother, but Daisy and Jellyfish belong here." Varus shrugged his shoulders, a mocking laugh stirring up the air from the mahogany-clad pirate captain. "It has nothing to do with me, but you have to admit, the two of them going off on a sea adventure together, it's so epic, it captures the essence of youth!" Sam glared hard at the pirate captain. "Why did you bomb the Military Academy?" He asked, scowling, and Varus flapped his hand unconcernedly. "Oh, it was just a diversion, my real goal was to go for the Water Canyon." He grinned roguishly, a light flickering in his eyes. If it was madness or genius was for anyone to decide. "It's destabilized, so eventually a huge sandstorm will sweep up the city, and then we can go in and kill all the Capitalists! Victory at all costs, doesn't that sound great, brother?"

Aria seemed to mostly ignore all of that exchange. "Yui?" She asked, not seeing her on the screen.

Yui stood on the edge of the wall, the wind whipping through her face and dress. She shivered, the cat paw print leggings Stella had brought for her upon her return from a mission were torn and stained with blood. "Stella!" Yui called, waving her arms, "Stella! Help!" Yui was stuck atop a crumbling building in the abandoned district. She had come out here with Stella and Essie to assist in the hunt for something that Yui didn't quite understand, but was certain was important. Supposedly there was a notebook out here, one similar to the one that Ally had kept her writings in for Yui. Yui had already begun to read the journal when she could stomach it and sobbed most every night because of what was written in there. The sadness often overcame her after reading an entry often made her tear up and she would need to leave to clear up her head.

That was why today she had come to assist Stella and Essie in finding the journal that Miiko had supposedly hidden out here. The only problem was that the landscape was dusted with snow and in their haste to find the book, Yui had slipped and fell, scraping her knees. She had lost track of the other two girls who had gone off in a hurry. "Help!" Yui squeaked, shivering. She refused to use her ability, the one that had made her a monster, Yui hadn't used it in nearly one hundred years and so she could not sense where the other two were. "Yui!" Stella called, having spotted her, she waved, beckoning Yui forward. "I'm tuck!" Yui called, gesturing around her. Stella disappeared and soon reappeared with Essie right behind her. She rescued Yui from her perch by jumping and grabbing onto the much smaller girl, then jumping back over the gap that Yui had nearly fallen into and to safety.

"Thanks," Yui brushed the snow off of her knees. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come, I'm not very useful." Stella shook her head, "No, I'm glad you came to keep us company, let's keep going." They stopped inside of what probably was once a house in Manhattan before it had become Yavin. A branch from the World Tree had split the house in two. "Wow," Yui gasped, recognizing where she was. "I was here once before," Stella paused, she had been checking underneath some rocks. "If I had that stupid summoning ability-" she started then paused. "You were here?" Yui nodded, rocking back and forth on her heels. "Only once before, I hid in this house and um, it's a long story." She shook her head, never mind that. "Let's keep looking," the timid mouse peered over dilapidated furniture that nature had begun to reclaim. The bed had sprouted flowers that blossomed in the middle of winter, chairs had collected moss and dirt.

Strange little animals skittered across shadows, their presence known only by the scratching their paws made against the old wooden floors. "Wow," Yui gasped, having happened upon something spectacular. Inside of a crevice was what appeared to be a jewel, bright and iridescent, nearly purple. "What is that?" Yui asked, reaching for it. "Don't touch that!" Stella screamed, she grabbed Yui and ran, the diamond flashing innocently across the house. A squirrel skittered by, cut in two. Yui screamed, burying her face in Stella's chest. The diamond exploded, its ability now gone. "We found those all over the island when we first arrived, or rather, my parents did. They thought they had deactivated most of them." Stella turned to face Essie, "if you ever encounter one of those diamonds, run to the left or right, they can only shoot straight."

The Red Fleet had come yesterday and now a debate was going on in Jace and Athena's home about a great many things. Varus on one side, Jace on the other - for men who used to be as close as brothers, this certainly wasn't anything out of the ordinary now. The two were so radically different, of course they would get into fights like this. Fighting over the disappearance of Jellyfish and Daisy, fighting over the radical decision to bomb the Military Academy and become no better than a common terrorist, there were lots of points of contention. Essie was glad to not be involved, she didn't feel like being interrogated or anything. If they knew her role in the plot, hers and Stella's, it would certainly be unpleasant. As it was, she and Stella met up with Yui, the three of them on a mission.

Not a mission of any importance relating to the cause or anything, but a personal one for Stella's sake. "I used to live in this city before the Calamity." Essie said quietly, going over the memories. Callum had tried to approach her a few times, but what was once love was no longer there. How could it be, after so long, one hundred years in purgatory? The Star's fleeting feelings for him had faded away, he was nothing more than a fellow rebel, a fellow Spirit now. "I think it looks nicer like this, with all the water." She didn't blame Yui for wrecking the awful world that punished children just because they read banned material, not one bit. She kept her eyes peeled, not really sure what to look for. "Just be careful from now on, don't get yourself hurt, Yui, okay?"

Once Essie was radiant, able to shine brightly, but now she was a dulled star, hardened by what an abrupt ending her life had had. Callum escaped to Europe, promising to be back to save her, and then that little parasite Prisca was the one to sell everyone out in the first place. In her opinion, both of them had been in the wrong. Her whole body tensed when Yui touched the diamond, Essie was quick to summon one star to block Stella and Yui, just in case of any rebound. It was her job as a Spirit to protect her Caster, after all. "Duly noted, Stella." She desummoned the star and fell back into step with Stella and Yui. She wanted to discuss what Daisy and Jellyfish told them the night of the disappearance, but they couldn't go into it, not here with Yui.

Even now she wasn't sure if that had been the smartest idea. As someone native to Enrya, Jellyfish might have been useful to keep around for the upcoming meeting with the Enryan Militants, who contacted Jace not too long ago, seeking a plan to liberate the island from Republic occupation. "Oh, could that be it?" She summoned a star and stood on it rather than summon a second to make the rainbow beam, flying up to retrieve a small box from under a bed that looked like it could contain a journal. It was locked of course, by a latch that needed a key. "I can't open, but there's something inside."

Stella shook her head, "I doubt that's it, she wouldn't have locked it in a box like that because she'd more then likely lose the key," Stella brushed her long red hair out of her face. "Besides, the paper we use isn't like the paper of old, getting it wet has no effect, she could have stored it beneath the lake for all I know." Stella didn't think that Miiko would have done that. "Take that box along, we'll see what's inside of it." Stella beckoned to Essie, Yui pondered the things that Essie had said. "I'm glad you don't blame me," she said quietly. "I didn't mean to," Yui hugged herself, her light bearing mark burned ever so slightly, but it had been doing that ever since she had stopped using her light bearing gifts. It was a sensation that Yui was used to, one that had become as much a part of her life as this new world.

"Um, it was nice before," Yui said rather unhelpfully, hoping to ease whatever pain Essie might have. "It was a big city, with lots of cars and people..." Yui trailed off, unsure what else to say. Of the whole of New York, New York City alone had been the sole survivor of the flooding Yui had accidentally brought on. "Let's keep moving," Stella said, "I think I know where she may have hidden it." Stella released Yui from her protective grip, having still held onto her. Yui followed along, bumbling behind so that she could keep up. "Um, not to pry, but why is it that you and Miiko had a falling out?" Yui asked and Stella glowered. "I don't know," she replied honestly. "Just in those five years, when I came back I suddenly couldn't stand to be around her. Her innocence and naivety, it drove me nuts."

Stella glanced back at Essie, wondering if her partner had similar thoughts and feelings about her own sister. "I want to reconnect with her, I think this could help." At least Stella was trying, she was putting in an effort by finding thsis tupid journal. "Truthfully this should have been the first place we looked," it was somewhere the two children had gone together often. "We would come out here looking for treasure, we talked about being treasure hunters, about travelling the world together, just the two of us, in search of lands unknown and jewels beyond our wildest dreams. That was around the time I learned about her kleptomania, although I certainly didn't help by encouraging it." Yui giggled, kleptomania was a funny word, one she had never heard before. Stella's brow twitched, although Yui wasn't sure why.

They went up an old staircase that led into an old building with a crumbling stone facade. "It's not much farther," Stella assured them. Yui was tired, she had not exercised like this for a very long time. "Just around the corner," at last they had reached the top floor. The windows were broken, but the glass had been swept out by both wind and time. In the corner was what looked to be a hovel of sorts, blocked off by sheets. "I have a feeling it's here," Yui followed behind Stella, who pushed the sheets aside to reveal a clubhouse and on the table, a notebook.
