Kohari Village


Kohari Village is a peculiar place lying in the center of Japan. It’s a small village yes, but many people live there so it’s often crowded and a great place for tourism. Why? Because it’s split in half; one is the world of medieval Japan, and the other half looking like modern Japan. It may be hard to understand right now, so allow me to explain it in an easier way. First, let’s start with the east side of the town, also known as the medieval Japanese side of Kohari.

Medieval Japan is just as it sounds, medieval, but Japanese, obviously. There is no source of water other than the well, and bathrooms are replaced with outhouses that lay in the center of the squared traditional house. Risen beds are replaced with flat futons and while cars would be seen in the modern side of Kohari, you’d only see carts pulled by horses or people just simply walking to get to their destination instead. There is no Internet, no connection, no computers, and no phones unless someone brought them from the other side of Kohari. Not to mention that the style of clothing is also quite different. It’s still modern times, yes, but this side of Kohari is almost literally stuck in medieval Japan’s times. People don’t often wear regular pants and tops, and if someone were, they may get a few strange looks from the villagers on that side. The people on this side wear kimonos, yukatas, risen sandals, etc. This is a normal outfit on the east side of Kohari. The west side, though, is a completely different matter, being exact opposites.

The west side of Kohari, also known as modern Japan, is a completely opposite to the east side. Here, there are skyscrapers, phones, computers, and cars instead of horses pulling carts. People wear normal clothing, regular tops, regular jeans, anything you see today where you live. There are highways, hotels, two story houses, but rarely any wild life. Unlike the medieval part of Kohari, there are no forests besides your traditional Japanese house, there is no cave in the mountains near your school, and there isn’t any wildlife anywhere. It’s all tamed and put under strict control, perhaps even too strict, but that’s the difference between modern and medieval. But don’t get confused by this, we’re not in separate worlds or anything. Kohari isn’t very large, perhaps having a population of around 500 people, including the travellers. But half of those 500 people live in a modern side of Kohari, while the others life in an old Japanese-like legend side of Kohari. But the population of Kohari isn’t made up of humans only.

Youkai and Desmons


First, lets start out with the first race that makes up a quarter of Kohari; Youkai. They’re actually quite the regular sight, and all humans can see them actually. Youkai are actually very similar to humans. The only difference between the two is that one may have ears and horns while the other cannot. Some say that the Youkai are more dangerous than people, but it’s most definitely a lie because Youkai and humans are equal on a scale of how much harm the two of them could cause. Humans have killed people, and so have Youkai; there is no difference between the two. Yet Youkai are always treated with low respect. They’re in poverty, usually living in their houses and staying in their houses, away from humans who would only shun them day after day. It’s strange why they’re treated this way because they help exterminate another race that is much more dangerous and threatening.

Demons; killing machines, monsters, ogres, murderers. Demons are almost exactly just like Youkai, just that they cannot take a human-looking form, and they have no control over themselves either. They practically have no mind. From the first day of birth, a sort of code-like memory just enters their system that tells them to kill whatever stands in their path. From the first day of birth, they’re immediate killers, being unable to be saved by anything or anyone. They have terrorized villages in the past, and still do, hiding and attacking only in the dark where they are comfortable to strike. Though, Demons do not visit the modern side of Kohari, only staying in the medieval side, which is why so few humans reside there. Regular humans are unable to kill Demons though, proving a more dangerous point why the east of Kohari is cursed and why there are such a low number of regular humans living in that area. But it’s all handled under control because many Youkai live there who will take care of any Demons. Not only the Youkai can kill them though, but the Specially Trained Exorcist Division, or STED, also live in Kohari to take care of the same unholy creatures.

STED
Specially Trained Exorcist Division


STED, or the Specially Trained Exorcist Division, are people raised to exterminate Demons or any stray Youkai that deem to be dangerous. They’re humans, yes, but not normal humans you’d see on the street. They were chosen specifically by another STED member who thought they could handle being apart of their little district. Once chosen, they’re taken away from their family, whether it be by choice or force and are trained in the headquarters that lies between the east and west part of Kohari. They then spend their whole entire life there, hardly remembering their family or past life, and ending up only bonding with other fellow STED members. The only time they get outside is to kill any Youkai or Demons. They’re actually the same as Youkai, just… humans. Both of them kill and hunt any stray Youkai or Demons, but STED, being humans, are respected more like the police while regular Youkai are thought of as criminals. Because of this, the two often don’t get along. Well… that is, until the real war started.

The War

Now, as you know, STED and Youkai do not get along, despite the similarities in their jobs they take care of everyday. They never got along until the huge war occurred with demons.

The population of demons, and the attacks, were held at an average level, or a very low level, making sure that these things didn’t happen too often. The deaths by a Demon or stray Youkai were very rare because STED and other Youkai kept the population of these dangerous races on hold so very little deaths would happen very often.

Until something changed all of a sudden. The rituals for banishing Youkai and Demons were always kept the same, and it was always successful in keeping the average of Demons and Youkai at a stable number, but all of a sudden, the numbers began to rise without any certain change that was known.

There was more Demon attacks at night, more deaths, and more injuries. Although STED and Youkai were still doing their job, Youkai only protected the medieval part of Kohari while STED protected the modern western side, making the separation hard to keep control with such a large number. So therefore, the headmistress of the Youkai, and leader of STED had a large debate, for over months about what to do about the current situation. It took a long time because the two were not friendly with each other, and their disciples didn’t get along with each other either. But in the end, they came to an agreement that it was about time to unite again after all those hundreds of years of fighting.

So this led to the headmistress of her Youkai to take five of her elite students, and the leader of STED to take five of his elite students, to watch over all of Kohari instead of just their own land. Although the two different types of people do not get along with each other in the least bit, the two superiors have a hope that it will cause the two races to become closer and prevent further deaths in the village of Kohari.

(And ya know what that means? Numbers go with numbers! [As usual...] So although this rp will start out with neither of the two knowing each other, you will be assigned in the beginning of the rp with the other number your character is.)

(Also, I forgot to mention this, but the STED members will be crossing over to east of Kohari to the mansion of the headmistress of Youkai and stay there, which is how the characters will meet each other.)
