Footsteps were loud as they echoed in Ophelia's mind. The angel trapped in her brother's room gazed quietly out the window. What was going to happen now? It was clear that there was something very wrong now. She couldn't help but smile, even just a little though. Why did she smile in this precarious situation? Maybe it was because she could sense her brother. He wasn't here, he was in Amiens. He was back at the Pierce Estate, hopefully taking Alice to Heaven where she would be safe. Baroness Anguis and Ayna had lead her into this trap, and now, Baron King Messiah's expressionless featureless face was here, peering through the glass. "I see we've got ourselves an angel. Good work, Anguis." The kimono clad Baroness did a little curtsy. "She's aiming for your head. It's a shame really, we could have let her be if it wasn't for her plan."

Ophelia knew of course, she should have known all along. She was a fool for having trusted demons. To think of Ayna or Anguis as allies was a mistake. Even now, she knew it was going to be just like before, just like all those times before. Back when she was still in Heaven, attending school, and the demon children hurting her and her demon friend, Katua, for daring to be friends. "It's really unfortunate. You were my personal favorite." Messiah said, an abyss staring at her through the glass on the door's window. "I see." Ophelia said ruefully. "I would have enjoyed being a Baron. The irony of an angel earning such a title isn't lost on me." Was she still eligible for the Baron Exams? It was impossible now, in any case, for such a thing to happen. "I would have allowed it." Baron Messiah said, the door opening. He reached for her and grabbed her by the wing, and she did not resist. "An angel as a Baron? That would have been very interesting."

How many times has it been now? How many times has the sun set since she's been here? Ophelia didn't know, she couldn't see the sky. Angels loved being able to see the sky above their heads, the clouds and the sunshine. It was their connection to Heaven, and allowed their feathers and plumage to be beautiful. Not that she had wings anymore, Messiah made sure to deal with them properly. She had been cut open many times, and snakes were inserted into her open wounds before they were closed up again, as if they never existed in the first place. The snakes writhed and moved around her insides though, one in particular made a resting place in her womb, she could feel the painful bulge and stretching of the cavity.

"It's really quite pitiful." Baron King Messiah said, returning to her chamber in the downstairs section of the Eiffel Tower, or at least, that's what Ophelia assumed where she was being held. "I had a meeting with Pierce, and he says he had no idea about your true nature. He won't be coming to save you." She knew he wouldn't be, he had too many important things to worry about than a wayward angel who had been lying to them all from the start. "Now, I must understand what that strange organ around your bladder is, so shall we get started?"

As he reached for the scalpel she swung her tail, the cursed blade slashing something on his featureless face. He let out a growl and pressed a hand to it, but it wouldn't heal. "So that's where the blade went." Iflet's black knife, a weapon that would never ever let a wound heal. "I thought... your face needed a little... decorating." She missed, of course, she had been aiming for his throat. "Interesting, so you still have the will to fight." He turned his face towards her. "I was hoping you had learned to be more docile."

"We can't just do nothing!" Cal slammed his palms against the table, Baron Pierce sitting calmly. It had been nearly two weeks since Ophie had disappeared, but they knew she had not left earth. Alice had seen it, Ophie suffering in a basement somewhere in Paris. Baron Pierce had already gone to tell Messiah he had no idea that Ophie had been an angel this entire time, needing to maintain that he was still on their side, that he would defend the demons to the last. "That's exactly what we will do Calciferous. To raise a hand against Messiah means making yourself an enemy." Baron Pierce replied, sitting calmly behind his desk. Alice was on his lap, having just woken up from a vision. She had her toys with her of course, never seen without them.

"We're going to rescue her," Laertes said softly from the corner he was standing in, having taken up residence here in Ophie's absence. He had gone to Heaven and returned immediately when he realized that his sister was not there. This time, of course, it was with Celeste's permission. He was not allowed to return without Ophie by his side. "We're going to bring her back, I don't care if it's with you or without you." Laertes strode forward, Sonata too, closing in. The three of them were not going to take no for an answer. "It seems I won't be able to stop you," Baron Pierce sighed. He knew that they were ambitious, that they did not care if he told them no. They would rescue their friend, who had been nothing but loyal to them.

"Just don't do it under my mantle. You'll need to do it independently and make certain you cannot be recognized." Echo knocked on the door. "I think I can help with that," she strode forward, toting two bottles full of ominous colored liquid. "I've been experimenting, I'm not a witch, but I've been doing this for a while. It's a potion that can change your outter appearance. Your abilities will remain the same, it's just your outside that's been altered." Cal seemed surprised that Echo was willing to aid them. "We'll go right to Heaven from there, so they think angels broke her out." Laertes decided. They could come back for Alice at a later date.

It was nightfall when they prepared to leave, "the potion will only work for two hours, so take it right before you break in." Echo instruced. They were all dressed in black, the three of them clutching their individual potions. "Let's do this," Laertes said, his wings snapping open. They took off, him carrying the two of them by their coats. Alice watched them go, wondering if she would ever see Ophie again. "Alice, bed time!" She was sleepy, having spent all day doing Alice things like trying to climb the shelves and attempting to fly in her room, only to realize the ceiling was too low and nearly knocking down the chandelier. "Okay," she slid off of the windowsill and fought Rene as she always did to brush her teeth, not liking the sensation.

By the time Rene tucked Alice in, the poor faerie was half asleep. She closed her eyes, drifting off quickly, Dog and Pog tucked under each arm. She was so tired she didn't hear the crash through the window, but awoke with a jolt when someone grabbed her by the throat. "What's this?" A man in a mask asked, Alice flailing. She couldn't breathe, she could only gasp. "What are you doing!" A voice yelled. Rene! There was a flash and a bang, Rene dropped to the ground. Alice screamed, then coughed. "No, no you can't die. Here, drink this," it tasted putrid as he forced it into her mouth, like sour lemons. Her body grew heavy as the door burst open, Baron Pierce attempting to intercept, but they were already out the window.

Alice awoke in a strange place, this couldn't be right. This wasn't her bed, but she was still wearing her night gown. There were chains on her arms and legs, the ground hard beneath her. A cage, she was inside of a cage. This wasn't the trader's though, she had been there enough times to know. So where... was she?

"A faerie?" One of them laughed, "I thought those went extinct! Let me take a look!" A sheet was pulled off of the cage, they looked inside, a crowd of them. All dressed strangely, clad in outlandish clothing. "As I live and breathe. Well, we paid good money, not going to let this opportunity go to waste. What's your name little Faerie?"

"A-Alice," she whimpered. Where was Dog? Where was Pog? "No, no, Alice is no name for a performer. How about... Glimmer!" She wrinkled her nose. "No, I want to go home!"

"This is your home, welcome to the circus Glimmer."

Ophelia shivered, staring at something beating before her eyes. "This is your heart." Baron King Messiah said, holding it in his hands, almost taunting her with the organ. "It looks similar to a human's heart, but not quite." He said with an oddly tender voice. "While it would be nice to kill you here, your friends are coming soon. There's something important for you to do." He put the heart back into her chest and mended it up. "Hm? What do you mean?" Ophelia let out a gasp, glaring, her eyes glowing a dark red in the dim light. "A little lamb told me that Alice was taken, but you'll be able to save her. It would be a shame if my future Oracle's light was stuffed out before she can grow. She won't thrive in a carnival, at any rate."

Lamb? Ophelia knew who the lamb Oracle was, but could it really be? All the reports from the angel scryers told her that Yue Eldriss was long dead now. "But how can Eldriss be alive?" Messiah gave her a particular nod, but it was impossible to read what that nod could have meant. "I was only able to revive her recently, I had to keep her frozen in a state of near death for a long time." As for why she was cooperating with Messiah, well, there was a plethora of reasons. "Just wait here, your dear friends will come for you shortly. I'll have to kill you another time, but you have an important job to do for me." He still had his eyes on getting her, didn't he? "She won't be yours." Messiah almost seemed to be pitying her for a moment. "They're here." A raspy voice echoed out from the darkness, a black and white lamb mask peering through. "You should get hidden, Messiah." Eldriss was cooperating with Messiah. Was she doing it for Zinnia's promised safety and freedom, wherever she was gone to now?

As Messiah and Eldriss vanished from sight, someone tore open the door. "Sister! I found you!" Laertes grabbed her, pulling her through and into his arms. "Are you okay? What happened?" Ophelia shook her head, of course she was fine. While it hurt, they had bigger priorities right now. "Alice was abducted." She said, frowning distinctly. "How could you let her get taken just because I went missing for a little?" Sonata paled, Calciferous raised an eyebrow, and Laertes shook his head. "Alice was? But we just - anyways, let's get you out of here, okay?" They pulled her out of the Eiffel Tower, back towards Amiens.

"So it seems that it's true." Baron Pierce and Ophelia joined their information together. Alice was taken away by slavers, but they sold her before he could get to them and track them down. Thankfully, Ophelia knew where she was. "She's a part of a circus, so we can go kill the sinners that bought her now." Ophie explained, huddled in a blanket, feeling cold. "No doubt they'll be advertising a faerie attraction in order to sell tickets, so it'll be easy." A quick search on the internet took them exactly where they needed. "The Walpurgis Night Festival will be next performing in Japan." Sonata told them, showing them the tickets she bought on her phone. That was going to be an issue, demons were barred entry into Japan. "I know the Light Bearers there." Laertes piped up. "I can get some of us in, but we can't go in a big group."

"I think you bought a defective one," Alice stood between two people that essentially acted as guards to make sure she did not fly away. They weighed her down with heavy chains and took her clothes, making her stand still as she was measured up and down and all around for a costume. "I want elegance and plenty of sparkle," the Ringleader said. His name was Leon and he rest his hand on Alice's shoulder, who was having anything but a good time. "I'm thinking gausmier, maybe chiffon. Something flowy," the tailor said, sitting down at a desk to draw sketches while Alice shivered. "You should consider yourself lucky girl, your first performance will be in front of the Queen." A Queen? But the demons didn't have a Queen? The tailor turned around to show them the sketch, "What do you think?" Alice squinted, it was sparkly.

"Perfect," Leon's hand tightened, his grip squeezing. "You're hurting me," Alice whimpered, trying to pull away. "Get her dressed, we're going to the main tent to begin rehearsals." A pile of clothing was pushed into her hands, these were not her clothes. She wanted her nightgown, she wanted Dog and Rene. "Get dressed," one of the people watching her grunted, pushing her behind a curtain. She struggled to put the clothing on, a tight bodysuit and leggings. She squirmed as hse exited the curtain and was dragged almost immediately to new tent. This one was large, there were people of all shapes and sizes running around, practicing.

"Oh good, you're here." Leon gestured around him. There were people watching her, Alice was acutely aware. They all seemed happy, she noticed. They were well fed, all dressed in clean, sparkling clothing. They wore smiles, Alice realized, as they interacted. "Who's this Leon?" A woman with vibrant red hair and a scar across one eye asked. She had a lion tail, Alice noticed and standing behind her were two lions. "This is Glimmer, our newest addition." He pat her head, Alice stepping back. The woman laughed and knelt down, "don't worry Glimmer, you're going to love it here." She shook her head, "I want to go home!" To Baron Pierce, with his pretty green hair and his warm hugs.

"This is your home now and I'm sure you're going to fit right in." The woman ruffled Alice's hair, "I'm Leona." Leon and Leona? She looked between them. "Yes, we're siblings." Leona said with a tinkling laugh. "We flipped a coin to see who got to be Ring Leader and Leon won." She shot him a friendly glare and took both of Alice's hands. "So Glimmer, what is something you've always wanted to do?" Alice backed away. "That's not my name! I don't want to do anything!" She crossed her arms and sat down in the dirt on the floor. "Oh my, well we have a show coming up and we could really use your help." Alice shook her head, "I don't care!" She wanted to go home, she would fly there if she had to. "Well, why don't we see if there's something that you enjoy?" She held out her hand, but Alice crossed her arms.

"Look kid, if you're gonna make this hard, we've got ways to make you comply." Leon said from behind her. "I paid a pretty penny for a fairy and the show's already sold out."

"She doesn't have to do anything Leon," Leona said calmly. "She can be a pretty centerpiece if that's what she insists on doing. We'll have to change the show a bit though, do you think the tent can hold the extra weight? Or maybe we can suspend her from the trapeze?" Alice didn't like the sound of any of that. A golden cage, hung from the ceiling. Alice would only have to do one thing in the end. She sat in the cage as they hoisted it up, it was two hundred feet in the air and swung haphazardly. "Alright Glimmer, when the cage door opens, all you have to do is fly to the ground!"

The cage door sprung open, the music blaring. Alice froze up, backing up further against the bars. "You can do it!" An earpiece buzzed in her ear, but she didn't want to. She was afraid without someone up here with her to guide her. "Come on!" The cage began to tip, Alice screamed as she slid out, her wings snapping open to catch her. She opened one eye, then another, realizing that they were watching her, that her wings were throwing out technicolor lights across the ground. The lights followed her as she slowly floated downwards, her heart hammering in her chest. "That was perfect! See, I told you, you could do it!"

She shook her head. "I don't want to ever do that again."

The wind was howling in their ears like the ferocious roaring of a fantastical beast, an eternal beast roaring and keeping control over the area like an old watch dog. They decided that they couldn't bring everyone across the border though. Baron Pierce needed to stay behind to govern and take care of the land, so he entrusted the task of saving Alice from Japan to his Baronlings as well as Laertes, who would have to make his living here now that it was no longer safe for him to remain in Paris. "Welcome to Japan. We won't be able to get in just yet though." Once upon a time this island just off the coast used to house the founder of VorTech but now it served as the gateway to Tokyo. If you wanted to get into Japan, it had to be through the gate.

They could see it all across the sky, there was a barrier blocking entry, all across the island of Japan. Nothing could get in or out. Ophelai didn't have to touch it to figure that there was some sort of trick involved that if you tried to break through the barrier, Japan's military would be alerted, the world's most technologically advanced fighting force. They needed to be, if they wanted to call themselves the final refuge for humanity. If they didn't focus on technology, the demons would have taken over this island long ago. "So you said you could get us in?" Calciferous whistled, looking at the barrier. Laertes nodded, walking up to the station where the border guards were standing watch. In the past many humans would make a line here, trying to beg to be allowed in. Now, most humans who tried to reach safety were already within these clear walls.

"Hello, me and my friends want to get in." He said, giving a big smile to the border guard. "My name is Laertes, I'm a friend of the light bearers here." But the border guard growled and shook his head. "No one gets in. Only humans allowed in, but the machine says none of you are human." His salt and pepper hair and big muscles seemed to stick out even in the military uniform he was wearing, as if the uniform hung badly off of his strong body. "Umm, we mean no harm! We all come in peace." Laertes made his big smile even bigger. "We just want to look for our friend and we'll be out just as quickly, okay?" Ophelia shook her head. "It'd be faster to have gone invisible and try to sneak through the barrier." She said to herself as Sonata giggled.

Suddenly another girl walked up to the man guarding the gateway to Japan. "It's okay Ronan, they won't cause trouble." A dark haired girl came up, tapping his shoulder. "How do you know that?" The man, apparently called Ronan, glared at her. "What are you doing here? You can't just trust strangers -" She shook her head, smiling at the group of angels and demons. "No, my book says these four aren't here to hurt anyone." She grinned, her eyes gleaming violet. "But no violence, even the circus folk are our citizens. You'll find a peaceful solution, won't you? Then big scary Ronan will let you in." They needed to save Alice, but it seemed the only way they could do so was by making a promise of pacifism to not hurt the people who bought her and may even be abusing her.

Four days of practice, to learn an opening and closing dance. Four days of Alice refusing to participate, of being forced to learn, of sleeping in a cage so she did not run away, of being deprived of meals aside from crumbs to try and keep her from misbheaving. When the morning of the show came at last, Alice was exhausted. "Time to get up Glimmer," the seamstress was there with a garment bag. She helped Alice into the costume, even though the show wasn't until much later. "Oh good, you're up." Leon came by, "you'll eat a big breakfast today and then Leona will teach you how to do your hair and makeup." He cupped her chin in his fingertips, "No misbehaving today, the Empress is going to be here." Empress? Alice didn't know what that was.

She ate breakfast with the other performers, sitting quietly at the end of the bench. Alice did not know how to handle stress, whenever she felt overwhelmed, she would become quiet and withdrawn, a stark difference. She couldn't bring herself to eat much, her stomach was upset. "Glimmer, are you ready to get into hair and makeup?" Leona asked, her lion tail flickering back and forth. Was it real? Alice wondered. She followed Glimmer to another tent, throwing up just outside. "That's not going to get you out of today's show." She held Alice's hair back, frowning, and pushing a bottle of water into her hands. "Drink," Alice did so, rinsing the taste out of her mouth. "Come on," Leona shuffled her inside, showing her how to put pretty ringlets in her hair and smear colors on her face to bring out her features. "There, look how beautiful you are."

There were only a few hours until the show. They ran through everything twice more, Alice falling asleep in the cage between her cues. She would awaken to the crackling sound, indicating that she needed to throw glitter or flowers to the ground. When the door opened, she stumbled out, her wings catching her. "Alright, an hour until show time. Everyone go eat!" She stayed behind in the tent, looking up at the gilded cage that was being lowered down. "Glimmer, aren't you hungry?" The Seamstress asked her, "you've been practicing all day." Alice shook her head, she was more nauseous than anything. "Well, you should at least be with the family, come on." The Seamstress held out her hand. Family? Is that what this was? Alice took it, sitting on the bench beside her and stirring her food around her plate.

The stands were packed, people had come from all over Japan to watch the opening night of the circus. Alice wasn't nervous, she didn't understand what it meant to have stage fright. She was tired, mostly, and anxious, and stressed due to being away from home for so long. "Glimmer, you're going to do great." Leona squeezed her shoulder, there was glitter sprinkled in her hair. Leona knelt down to reapply gloss on Alice's lips. "Go get 'em," she parted the curtain, allowing Alice to duck through as the music began. She knew the dance by heart now, gliding across the ground to the center and raising her arms. Two people lifted her, both wearing masks, spinning her in a circle. They placed her back down, Alice broke away, running, one catching her around the middle and spinning her in the air.

It was all coreographed by a man with red eyes and green hair, who she could sense watching her, even from here. She was placed on the ground again and made tugging motions, as though trying to escape, reaching towards the air only to be grabbed and placed in the cage. It was hoisted towards the ceiling, where she would spend the rest of the show. There were acrobats and trapeze artists that did much more impressive things, fire catchers, sword swallowers, and lion tamers. There were even clowns, a big family, was what Leona insisted it was. They all seemed so happy playing their parts. The story continuing on, Alice occasionally raining glitter down, or tossing flowers to the crowd when Leon cued her in. At last the end of the show was near, the final act of man versus the faeries.

And then the cage door sprung open, Alice knowing her cue. She did not fight it this time, her heart hammering in her chest as it began to tip slowly with her weight. She jumped free, glittering delicately as she drifted towards the ground, arcing around the tent and landing in the center. The lights dimmed, her knees shook. "Get her out of here," she heard someone whisper. Someone grabbed Alice by the middle, carrying her away. She vomitted as soon as she was set down, thankfully missing her shoes. "It's alright, first time jitters are always the worst." Was that what this was?

"Haru," Haruka Shoku looked at the little girl sitting beside her, dressed in a blue gown with yellow stars. "I want her."

"What do you mean you want her?" Haruka asked, taking her hand. "She needs to be taken away from here. I want her to come home with me."

"Yui, you can't just buy people."

"You're an Empress, but you can't save one girl?"

"You're going to be the death of me Yui."

Yui rose, her smile precious, infectious even. "But you noticed it too, didn't you? The light coming off of her."

"I think that was just the staging."

"No, from her heart. She doesn't want to be here." Haruka heaved a great sigh, "fine. Come on," they walked down from the stands, towards the circus floor where the performers were taking their bows. It didn't take long to find the ringleader, a man in a tall hat. "Empress Shoku!" He stumbled over himself into a low bow. "What can I do for you?"

"Your faerie, I want to see her." He blanched, "a-alright, right this way." He led them away from the prying eyes of the crowd, Yui holding onto Haru's sleeve, not wanting to get lost. Alice was already in her cage, her pretty costume gone, Leona rubbing small circles on her back and making her sip water. "We're going to take you away from here, okay?" Yui held out a hand. Leona and Leon exchanged glances in alarm.

"We have reason to believe," Haruka began, "that you purchased that faerie illegally." Leon swallowed hard, but they did not resist as Yui took the key and unlocked the cage. "Come on," she held out a hand again, kneeling down. "Let's go somewhere safe." Alice looked up, hesitant, but for some reason, she trusted this girl. She took her hand, the child pulling her out of the cage and into a warm embrace.

The amethyst-eyed girl who was apparently named Mizuki was smiling cheerfully while a dour looking man with thick muscled arms and salt and pepper hair glowered at the group, the two angels and two demons waiting to be allowed into Japan's borders. There was someone who they needed to find, they needed to get to Alice before it was too late. "I still can't believe you'll just let them in. I don't care what that book says, it's dangerous." Ronan growled, waving his gun angrily at the group. "Demons are always trying to steal VorTech technology. It's too much of a risk." He shook his head fervently. "I need to keep Japan safe, so Luna can grow up knowing peace."

"Trust me." Mizuki said with a sneaky little grin. Ophie in particular noticed that it didn't reach her eyes. The angle shivered - a strange habit she developed after having been torn apart by Baron King Messiah many times now. "It'll be okay. We have to let them in, it'll be less trouble for us this way. Those people are quite persistent, they'll fight their way in if we aren't careful." Laertes sighed, stepping closer to them. "My name is Laertes. I believe you know someone named Loki? I worked under him during my internship as an Angel Knight." He was going to use his mentor's name as weight to vouch for them? "See, anyone who worked with Loki is good in my book!" Mizuki grinned, clapping her hands with amusement. "Loki? You mean the trickster who almost sold Loretta to -" Mizuki gave him a look. "Her name's Yui, you had two centuries to get used to it already, Ronan."

They bickered for a little longer until Mizuki smiled once again, aiming her amethyst eyes at the four visitors. "Well, come on in. Welcome to Japan! Wait in the waiting room, and don't cause trouble. A ride will be here to pick you guys up and take you to Tokyo." There was a mysterious light in her eyes even as Ronan grumbled. "You bet I'll be keeping an eye on them." His hand was clenched tight around the grip of his fancy gun. "Thank you." Sonata did a little curtsy. "I understand the hesitation. We won't cause a fuss." They were given a set of rules to sign as they sat in the waiting area. No fighting, no killing, no stealing, and to wear disguises to hide the fact that they are demons. The commoners would be afraid if they knew demons roamed Japan after all.

About an hour later, a flying car arrived. A wild looking girl with gray hair stepped out. "You know, sometimes people are a bit busy, Mizu. Be more mindful of that." Aria muttered, looking at her prankster of a sister. "Trust me, this time it really is important! Here!" She gestured at the visitors and Laertes made sure to introduce them. He had been to Japan before after all, so he was the most comfortable in this far-eastern nation. "Thank you for letting us in. We're looking for someone who was kidnapped and taken-" Aria waved him off with a derisive snort. "I don't care. My job is to fly you to Tokyo? Get in then, let's make it fast." The girl named Aria seemed strange, every word she spoke seemed almost musical in a way.

Buckled in, it looked like they would be heading to Tokyo now. "You okay?" Calciferous asked, peering at her. "Don't overdo it, Ophie." She shook her head, knowing not to do that. "I'm fine. Let's go get Alice."

A blanket was draped over her shoulders as she was led to the strangest carriage Alice had ever seen. "My name is Yui and this is Haru," she had feathers beside her ears, feathers like an angel. Alice followed them, the girl called Yui holding her hand. "I still can't believe you made us kidnap a child," Haru grumbled, opening up the door to their magic carriage. Alice crawled onto the seat, bundling herself up in the corner. "What's your name?" Yui asked, her voice was like a gentle ocean breeze. She had sparkling blue eyes and reddish brown hair. "A-Alice," she whispered, looking at her lap. "Alice! Like Alice in Wonderland!" Yui took both of Alice's hands in her own excitedly. "Ah, she has one like me! Look Haru!" Yui brushed her hair aside, revealing a bar code. Alice had one too, all humans had it tattooed onto their necks when they reached the trader facility.

"We're matching!" Was Yui a pet too then? She had no collar though. Alice's stomach growled, "are you hungry?" Yui asked, squeezing her hands. Alice blushed and leaned back, feeling flustered and nervous. She shook her head, her stomach growling again. "Haru, can we stop for food?" Yui asked, her friend using a holo phone. "No, we have food at home." Yui pouted, "but you promised crepes," she crossed her arms, leaning back in her seat. "Well that was before you made me kidnap a magical creature!" Yui jumped up, switching seats to sit beside Alice. They were the same height, they both had blue eyes. In fact, they looked suspiciously similar. "You have it too," Yui said softly, "I can sense it in you." She reached out to touch Alice's forehead, "but you're burning up."

"We'll talk to Leo when we get there, okay?" Get where? The carriage lurched to a stop. "We're here," it was a large building, the biggest Alice had ever seen. They were surrounded by buildings that touched the sky. "Come on, let's go inside!" Yui took Alice's hands, leading her into a silver cylinder. The ground moved, Alice squeezed, grabbing onto Yui's arms. "It's okay, it's just the elevator!" Elevator, she had been in one of these before with Baron Pierce. They shot upwards. The one called Haru glued to her device. "The others should be home soon, Ronan's shift at the gate ended an hour ago." Yui nodded, the doors opening to reveal a fancy living room. "I'll call Leo, you take her to the bath." They kicked off their shoes as soon as they entered, Alice noticing that there was a space designated for it. She sat on the floor, struggling to untie the ribbons from around her legs.

Yui knelt down, helping Alice take them off. "We can take a bath together!" Yui elected, taking Alice's hand again. "No! You said she has a fever, you don't want to catch whatever it is she has!" Haru yelled from the other room. "Fine!" Yui sighed, she led Alice to the bath, a strange room where water came directly from the roof and a bath on the other side. There were strange buttons, one of which sprayed soap at her. Yui had left a towel out for her, there was no Rene to wrestle her into panties though, so Alice simply put on her nightgown. "Look, we're matching!" Yui was wearing the same one. "You don't talk a lot, do you?" Alice shook her head. Yui took her hand again, leading her to a large room.

"Dog," Alice picked up one of the stuffed animals, it wasn't her Dog, this one had black spots. "Yes, that's a dog. His name is Ronan," a white dog with black spots. "Ronan?" Alice hugged him. "Do you like him? I can have Haru get you one!"

"You can't just kidnap a child!" Ronan yelled from the other room, they could hear him, even in there. He was stomping down the hall, Yui looked around frantically. "Hide!" She grabbed Alice's hand, but it was too late, the door burst open. "Lor-Yui!" She peeked out from behind the bed. He softened as soon as he saw her. "What's this about blackmail and kidnapping?"

"We couldn't just leave her there! She isn't well!" Yui begged, hugging Alice like a stuffed toy. Alice was hugging the toy dog.

"It's you!"

It was like jumping ahead two hundred years into the future, that's what Japan was like compared to the rest of the demon controlled parts of Earth. While none of it was particularly impressive to Ophelia, who was used to the beauty and charm of Heaven, but Sonata and Calciferous were definitely awed and seduced by the wonders of Japan. While Baroness Vaswald was certainly skilled, it wasn't enough to compare with what Allyana Vorkova was capable of. Flying cars, sky roads, holographic buildings, it was definitely proof of the advancement of human ingenuity. How much of it was earned, though? The humans who were in control of the final human refuge weren't humans at all but rather light bearers, with their lives artificially extended by the Light Seed. This wouldn't last forever - eventually the Light Seed would run out of light, and the Light Bearers would have all their delayed years catch up to them. Ophie would know, she studied the science of Light Seeds, it was one of her study topics in Heaven.

In the Minato Ward of Tokyo, Japan's lively capital, the car came to a stop. "Well, we're here. I did my job, you guys should get out now." Their red eyes chauffeur glowered at all of them in tow - was it any wonder Aria and Ronan often ended up together? "Don't do anything to make my sister regret putting in her good name for you all." Laertes nodded gratefully. "Thanks for the help. We'll be going in now. We won't cause any problems, I assure you." Would it be possible to save Alice without causing troubles? As an angel, it was part of Ophie's job to judge those who sinned. Those of the circus, for buying an innocent girl and forcing her to perform on stage against her will, that was most definitely a sinful act indeed. She also needed to deal with the slavers who abducted Alice in the first place. Humans were all dangerous, Earth was better off without such prideful creatures.

Kidnapping? Ronan rushed into the Tokyo Municipal Building, ranting something about how they can't just kidnap a child. No doubt they were referring to Alice. Ophelia exchanged a cautious look Laertes's way but her brother seemed pretty calm as he walked in. Was he that familiar? While Laertes spent his internship working with Loki in Japan, Ophelia's was spent in Hell with Celeste, at least Celty moved back to Heaven under her family's advice. "Who was kidnapped?" Sonata asked sharply. "Where's Alice? What have you done with her? Was she forced to do some sort of Government Circus-" Cal's fists were balled, the two demons already fired up. "We promised not to cause problems remember." She hissed to the father and daughter duo with a shake of a head.

"We're looking for a faerie named Alice. She's a part of our family." Laertes spoke politely. While he wasn't really a part of the Amiens family, the truth was he didn't have anywhere else to go now. It wasn't safe for him in Paris anymore, that much was certain. There was Yui of coursen, grasping tightly onto Alice's hand. "It's okay, Yui. These are the people I told you about from the book." Mizuki gave Yui a subtle wink. "Though they should take better care of Alice if she's family. Tut tut, letting her get kidnapped like that, how sloppy." There was a devious grin on the Japanese Oracle's face. "And an Oracle at that, who knew?"

Aria and Ronan both stiffened distinctly at that. "An Oracle allied with demons?" Aria growled, wind flaring. "Suddenly things got a lot more interesting."

Here, they were here. Alice heared their voices, they were just outside. "What's wrong?" Yui asked, assuming it was a problem with something else. "M-my family," Alice whispered, hugging Yui's arm. "You have a family?" She asked excitedly. It seemed that they had arrived. "Ari!" Yui ran to her, happy that her family was home. Alice could hear their voices in the hallway, she wanted to see them, but her legs were shaking. It seemed all of Yui's family was here, as well as part of Alice's. "We don't want to fight you," Cal said cautiously, his hand resting casually on his sword. Alice wanted to go home, she wanted to be with them, but Aria was suddenly blocking their path. "Yui, take Alice to the other room." Ronan said gently.

"Home, I want to go home." Alice said quietly, her hands balling into fists. "It's okay," Yui said softly, taking Alice away, as promised. "You'll go home, I'm sure Ari and Ronan just want to talk to them." Talk with their fists, Alice thought as Yui took her to the bedroom once more. Someone was waiting for them, "Leo, when did you get here?" Yui took Alice to the bed, the two of them sitting down. "I came for your three month checkup, but I guess you made a friend along the way that needs a checkup too." He frowned, "I've never treated a faerie before." He said contemplatively, "But I guess it can't be that different from a human." He listened to Alice's lungs, noticing the sound right away. "It sounds like there's fluid collected in there, don't worry, with a course of penicillin, it'll go away quickly and you'll feel much better."

She blinked up at him, uncertain as to what that meant. "Don't worry, you're going to be just fine." Leo pat her head, Alice clutching the toy dog that Yui called Ronan. "Penicillin is a natural antibiotic, so I think with your faerie body, that would work best." She nodded, she didn't know what that meant, but if he was a doctor, he probably knew what was best. "Do you think I could get a little bit of blood to confirm what I think it might be?" Alice nodded, holding out her arm. She had learned a long time ago that resisting was futile. "Wow, take note Yui, I wish you were this obedient." Yui stuck out her tongue in response, watching warily. "Wow, your blood glitters like mine!" Yui got a bit too close, recoiling when Leo swatted a hand at her.

In the other room, there was yelling, Alice didn't know what was happening, but she was hungry. "Alright Yui, your turn," she recoiled, blanching. "Don't worry," Leo assured her, "no needles." She stuck her tongue out, but unbuttoned her nightgown, Alice taking a peak. her skin was shiny, almost unnaturally show. "I call it ena," Yui swung her legs, noticing that Alice was watching. "I can breathe underwater with it." Alice's eyes widened. "You're a mermaid?" She asked quietly, still holding onto the dog. "No," Yui shook her head. "Just a light bearer," she smiled, but Alice had no idea what that meant.

This whole situation really was a mess. How could there be three Oracles living at once? Most time periods only had a single Oracle, let alone this many. Yet the truth was, three Oracles were currently living. It was unnatural, it really shouldn't be happening. One had her life artificially extended past her natural lifespan. Mizuki Matsuri was supposed to be dead, as was everyone here. Japan was a creepy place, a fake Kingdom of living zombies, a rotting paradise for a light seed bearer. The second one that wasn't supposed to exist was Yue Eldriss, but Baron King Messiah broke the laws of nature by keeping her on the border of life and death. The only Oracle supposed to be alive right now was Alice, she was the only official Oracle of the current era.

"Well, that's the long and short of it. We're not handing the Oracle to the demons." Aria said simply, crossing her arms. They were seated at a table to discuss the issue at hand now. "As if you can stop us from taking her back." Sonata grinned, anger clear on her face. She was agitated, tired of having her family broken apart like this. "We can though." Mizuki said with a giggle, laying the contracts on the table. "You all promised no violence, so let's solve this issue peacefully, okay?" Calciferous laughed, finding that to be funny. "And what good is pieces of paper against my sword? Why should we obey your laws if our family is being held prisoner here?" Mizuki pointed to tiny text at the bottom of each contract.

"This is special VorTech technology. We call them Contract Papers. If the signer breaks the contract, they'll die on the spot." Ophelia smiled, having figured something like this would happen. "Sorry, but me and Laertes's signatures are invalid." They used their fake name to sign the papers, writing their surnames as Illa. "Our real last name is Illuvia, so we won't be bound by the contracts." Laertes said, not liking how the other three were being hostile. "But I'd prefer if we didn't have to resort to violence." Ronan and Aria exchanged glances, wondering how to proceed from here.

"The truth is, we can't allow an Oracle to return to demon territory. Japan will be in danger should Baron King Messiah get his hands on her." Ronan said, raising an eyebrow. "For those reasons, we'll be taking custody of her." Ophelia smiled, her crimson eyes flashing dangerously. Why did she care so much about retrieving Alice? There was no reason to put herself at risk like this, but her heart was telling her to do whatever it good to make sure Alice returned to them at any cost. "How long will this fake paradise last for you all? You're long past your expiration dates, each and every one of you." Ophie pointed at the other room where Yui was, speaking loud enough for the Goddess to hear.

This was a bit of a secret, but it was time to reveal it. "As an angel, I can submit a report to the higher ups in Heaven that Yui's abusing her power by refusing to let nature take it's course." Making humans immortal like this was forbidden, and it was only out of pity that the managers allowed things to progress this far. "But one word from me and they'll temporarily block Yui's power as discipline. If that were to happen, all of your years would catch up to you... and you would all turn into dust."

And without the light bearers guarding Japan, who would protect humanity from Messiah's armies?

"Give Alice back to us, or risk losing everything. It's your choice now."

"Let's listen in on what the adults are talking about," Yui took Alice's hand, the two of them creeping into the hall, where the two parties were threatening one another. Yui suddenly stiffened, her grip on Alice's hand tightening. "Why would she do that?" Yui asked quietly. "I'm not abusing my power," she whispered, terrified. Alice looked at their hands, then at Yui, giving her a hug. Her eyes began to glow, a vision coming on. Yui grabbed her, lowering her to the floor. "Alice? Alice are you okay?" Yui whispered, worried that something was wrong, that she had done something. "Alice, please, wake up!" Yui whimpered, shaking her. She shouldered Alice's weight, dragging the child to her room, afraid that she had hurt her.

Alice stood in the smoking husk of the Tokyo Tower, Baron King Messiah opposite her. She stiffened, fearful that he could see her, but he wasn't looking at her, he had a hand wrapped around Yui's throat. "So, this is what's been opposing me the entire time? This child." Yui clawed at him frantically, but everytime her sword hit him, Messiah reversed time to heal it in the blink of an eye. "You won't disobey me anymore," Yui screamed as his emblem was burned into her throat, the same mark all of his toys carried. Doll stood behind him, she had Zinnia, who had been given sanctuary in Japan to hide from him. "Demons, Japan is now ours!" She could see the grin on his faceless face, her heart thumping in her chest.

Alice bolted upright, her head hitting Yui's. Yui jumped back, whimpering, rubbing her forehead. "You're okay? I was so worried!" Alice nodded, looking around the bedroom and spotting the stuffed dog. Yui handed it to her without question. "Home," Alice said quietly. "I need to go home, or bad things will happen." Yui nodded, "I understand. We'll just have to tell them that then," she took Alice's hand, the two girls walking out of the bedroom and to the table where the adults were. "Alice is going to go home." Yui said insistantly, "because that's what she wants and it's not fair to her if we make her stay here." Yui, after all, knew what it was like to be taken from the people who loved you most. Alice bound over to Ophie, clambering onto her lap. Then she slid down, returning to Yui's side to hug her.

"Don't let any demons in, ever." Alice whispered in warning, Yui nodding in agreement. "We won't, don't worry." She smiled, Alice tried to hand her the dog back, but Yui shook her head. "You should keep it, as a sign of our friendship!" She smiled, Alice nodded and unclipped a ribbon from her hair, the one from the circus, "You should keep this then," Alice insisted, placing it in Yui's hair. Yui smiled then turned towards Aria, "Stand down Ari, okay?" Alice looked between them and gave Yui one last hug before running back to sit on Ophie's lap and wrapping her arms around her. "I'm back," she said quietly. It was clear that Alice had been quite stressed during this entire ordeal.

There were dark bags under her eyes and even if she had only been gone a week, she seemed to have lost weight. Her hair, even after being washed, while it was normally bouncy and vibrant, was stringy and messy. Alice burried her head in Ophie's side, taking in her scent. She was glad that Ophie was back too.

As Ophelia made her proclamation Laertes gave her an odd stare, as if asking just what the hell she was thinking by revealing what they could do about Yui and her eternal happiness. Didn't he know that Yui was abusing her power? It was unnatural to allow normal humans to live this long, this went against the natural way of things. "That's not how to diplomacy-" Laertes was about to say before a fist slammed on the table. The wind suddenly billowed, their hair going all over the place. "You think you can threaten us?" Aria's anger was flaring, her famous temper known across the world. She was single-handedly responsible for many deaths of demons during the old wars back when Baron King Messiah was aggressively expanding demon territory.

"I just thought of something, but if Ronan and I kill all four of you here, you won't be able to go back and report to Heaven, right? We won't let anyone break Yui's heart!" Mizuki patted her sister's arm, a mysterious look on her face. "Calm down a little, sis, it'll be okay." Sonata and Calciferous were both stiff, they didn't want to just sit around and wait to die. "If you threaten us, we'll fight back in self defense." Calciferous growled, his sword still sheathed but ready to be pulled out at any time. "If angels die here, officials from Heaven will come to audit Japan." Ophelia said quickly, grimacing. "If they find out what Yui's been doing, they'll cut off the flow of light to the Light Seed." Then all of Yui's friends would turn into previous little specks of dust. Ronan grit his teeth, the veins in his arms pumping, he was very agitated after hearing that.

Then suddenly, breaking all of the tension like a hot knife through watery butter, was Yui herself, the so-called Goddess of humanity. She would allow Alice to return home, because she knew the pain of being kidnapped all too well. Alice made use of that moment to rush over to Ophie's side, nuzzling her head. "And the circus people? Where are they? I need to talk to them for having taken Alice from us." There was a new voice from behind them. Empress Haruka Shoku herself was here. Was she listening to this talk the whole time, just out of sight? "Haru!" Mizuki bound over, the First Lady of Japan was quite beloved after all. "Unfortunately, those circus people are citizens of Japan. You may voice your complaints to me, and I will discipline them myself." Empress Shoku said with a serene smile. "Don't worry, I'll make sure they don't leave human territory again."

That wasn't all though, it wasn't just the circus people who were responsible. "According to the video tapes we have of the abduction, it wasn't just them." Sonata added darkly. "But humans calling themselves part of the Human Liberation Front." It was no secret that the Human Liberation Front had their headquarters in Japan. "I'll talk to them about selling a fae into slavery." Emprss Shoku said with a nod. "If that's all your concerns, please make your leave. It might be best for both of our groups if you didn't overstay your welcome." She had a dismissive look on her face, intending this to end before another fight escalated.

Alice sneaked a wave to Yui, who sneaked a wave back. She was glad to be going home, Calciferous carried her while they flew back to Amiens. Alice was eager to return, having been gone for a week. It was morning when they reached home, Alice having slept in Calciferous's arms. "Welcome back," Baron Pierce was waiting for them. He welcomed them home with open arms, Alice running to greet him. "Welcome home Alice," he pat her head, removing the last of the hair bows from the circus. "I heard you had quite the adventure," she nodded, feeling tired, even if she had just spent the entire time sleeping. Her stomach growled, "I'm sure you're all quite hungry. Come, breakfast is ready."

Alice held Baron Pierce's hand as he led them to the table. She clambered onto her normal seat beside him and looked around, noticing that someone was missing. "Where's Rene?" Alice inquired, holding her fork already. Baron Pierce closed his eyes for a moment, "Rene is no longer with us, unfortunately." Alice tilted her head to the side, she didn't understand what that meant. "Rene passed away Alice," Sonata said gently. "Passed away? Where did she go? When is she coming back?" The concept of mortality, of course, was not one that she had ever learned. "Rene will not be returning," Baron Pierce's voice sounded heavy, even if he wore a neutral expression.

Alice ate her breakfast in silence, wondering if she would ever see Rene again. Why did she leave? Alice didn't understand. Would Rene ever come back? Was it because Alice always fought her in the bathtub? Who was going to help her get dressed now? Who was going to wrestle her into wearing her underwear? Alice looked around as she ate, expecting to see Rene pop up at any moment. "This is Viola," a new woman entered the room. She looked nothing like Rene, Alice could not recall ever seeing Viola around the mansion, but then again, she really did not pay all that much attention. "Alice, Viola will be in charge of taking care of you now." A different human had been given the position of Head Maid.

Viola was a curious creature, a half human, half demon. She was a product of incident, but was allowed to live because such creatures, while seen as less than the humans, were not illegal. Baron Pierce thought it best to have someone with a bit of strength in them to keep this incident from repeating itself. "Oh, you're all back." Echo peaked into the room, carrying a book. She took a seat at the opposite end of the table, placing her book down. "Glad to see you're all in one piece."

At long last, they were back at Amiens. Calciferous held Alice on the way back while Ophelia flew, with a tiny Sonata in her pocket. Calciferous was supported by both Ophelia and Laertes, since he couldn't fly either. Tired and worn out, the party made it back to Amiens, though quite a lot of time had passed. A girl with a lamb mask was also here, sitting by the fireplace. Winter would be starting soon, the weather was already starting to get more brisk. Echo was glad they were here, but Ophelia was concerned about Yue Eldriss calmly sitting in the parlor. "We're back, but Pierce, why is she here?" Yue was allied with Baron King Messiah. "Baron King Messiah requested that she stay here to deliver a message to the Baronlings under my wing." Baron Pierce admitted. Despite his calm face he was not happy at being so easily bossed around by the Baron King.

"Oh yeah? Well give us your message and then leave." Sonata muttered, growing back to her normal full height, hands on her hips. "After hurting not only Alice but Ophie too, I really want something to punch!" Not only that, but being treated awfully in Japan was stressful for her as well. The lamb-masked Oracle looked towards them and nodded. "Baron King Messiah is willing to let your transgressions slide, provided all three of you pass the test to become Barons." Yue Eldriss said in a low monotone. "Otherwise, Baron Pierce will be taken into custody for having connections with angels and for plotting against Baron King Messiah, and you'll all be considered fugitives and wanted for trial in Paris."

So all they had to do to clear their name was to play along and finished the Baron Exams? "Why is he letting us off that easily?" Calciferous asked, a little confused. "The public would be unhappy if the Baron Race was canceled. Ophie, Sonata, and Polaire are the favorites to win, and they have many fans. The demon realm would become chaotic if the show didn't end properly." In order to keep everything under control and stop needless riots, Messiah was entertaining the masses with shows such as this. She stood up to her short height - smaller than Ophie even - and began walking towards the exit. "Don't try to get out of this. I'll find you wherever you try to hide." Trying to escape an Oracle's sight? Not only that, but Ayna as well - it would be foolish to refuse this chance to spare Pierce's name.

"Well, obviously, we'll do it. We'll become Barons, all three of us." Sonata said with an affirmative nod, before looking strangely at Ophie. "Even her? Messiah's willing to let her be a Baron?" Yue didn't seen interested in talking anymore, though, as she apparated away before answering. "Well, if that's how it is, I'm gonna go after Ayna." Cal's eyes were burning. "She betrayed us once before, remember, Echo? I'm gonna make her pay for doing it again." Laertes decided then to raise a hand somewhat awkwardly. "So, is there a room where I can stay?" He asked, since he wasn't welcome in Paris anymore, he didn't have a place to sleep now.

Alice hadn't noticed the oracle in the corner. She stiffened when she saw her, uncertain as to what to do. She looked at Baron Pierce, who pat her head reasurringly. "Don't worry Alice, she won't hurt you." He whispered. Alice nodded, stuffing a piece of bread into her mouth. She was starving and even if Rene was gone, the food was as good as ever. Now she had Vivi to take care of her, although Alice didn't know why. Of course it could be because on her own, she was pretty helpless. She didn't know how to use the bathtub on her own and would wear no underwear if no one made her. She sneaked another glance at the other oracle, the one Baron King Messiah was utalizing until Alice's abilities developed.

Echo shrugged when Cal told her that he was going after Ayna. "I don't really care," she twisted a piece of hair around her finger, having finished her food already. "I didn't like the Tower Society, remember Cal?" She had been enslaved there just as much as the other demons. The Tower Society had spent years trying to fix the problems it had created, but in doing so, the demons only had more restrictions put on them. It had only been a matter of time until tension made someone snap. Echo leaned back in her seat, taking a sip of her tea. "You are welcome to remain here Laertes, under the condition that you will assist Ophie in becoming a Baroness." Baron Pierce was happy to share his home, now that Ayna and the snake no longer occupied a permanent residence in one of his rooms.

"Why do the leaves look like that?" Alice asked, noticing that they seemed strange. "That's because they're changing color," Sonata said gently. "It's almost winter, so the leaves are turning colors and soon they'll fall off and snow will fall." Snow? Alice had seen snow once before. "Why?" Alice wanted to know, not understanding why the leaves would do that. "Well, the earth is turning slowly around the sun, so when we hit a certain point, the seasons change." Alice was confused, "I think that explanation might be too hard for her." Baron Pierce teased Sonata, petting Alice on the head again. It was clear that he was relieved they had all returned in one piece. He had feared, of course, that the Japanese would not return Alice to them once they knew who she was.

He didn't want to keep Alice prisoner, but he knew that he would have to keep a closer eye on her, now that multiple enemies knew of her existence. After all, demons would pay a high price if they knew they could have this kind of power, the foresight to see the future. "I'm sure you must all be tired, when you're done eating, you can all go upstairs to freshen up." It was only breakfast time, but Alice was tired. Of course, she didn't understand things like time differences and she had been forced to adapt quickly, which accounted for her exhaustion. "Alice, who is your new friend?" Baron Pierce asked, noticing the new toy dog she had. "Ronan," Alice held him up. A white dog with black spots, "Yui gave him to me." Another dog for her collection. Baron Pierce reached into his pocket, taking out Dog, who Alice grabbed and hugged, happy to be home.

Calciferous narrowed his eyes at how blase Echo was being about the topic. "If it wasn't for Ayna and Polaire betraying us and everyone they said they'd protect..." He pointed a figure at the amethyst colored rock on Echo's necklace, safely sealed so that it wouldn't risk soul contamination, and growled. "Wouldn't Flo still be alive? Not only that, but Melody would too." Still sore by the scars of the past, Calciferous stormed off to go find a way to hunt Ayna. "Be careful, she's definitely kept safe in Paris." Ophelia warned, narrowing her eyes slightly. Would he be able to find her? It would be hard. Ayna could keep herself very carefully hidden if she wanted to. There was a reason why she managed to evade all the fighting this far, still having exactly 10 points, the exact same ten points she started with.

Laertes was going to be allowed to stay here, as long as he willingly helped Ophelia succeed in her Baron Exams. "Well, what do you need me to do?" He asked, slightly puzzled. "My oaf-y big sister's always been stronger than me in a fight." What could he do to help her for the Baron Race? "You could check around town to think of any opportunities there are to help her get more points." Sonata suggested, sitting herself down and enjoying some nice warm tea. "Just don't put yourself in danger, you're not as demon-looking as Ophie is." Laertes's mutation was simply a white scar on his face, while Ophelia's mutation were two long twin spiked tails protruding from her spine. Naturally she looked more like a demon, though the insult did hurt a little bit. "Yeah, yeah, I'll keep safe." He groaned, shaking his head.

"The good news is Baron King Messiah doesn't care about going after Alice anymore." Ophie said with a nod, wrapping herself up with a blanket. It was an odd habit of hers she developed after being tortured for days in Paris. She always felt cold now, though she didn't really know why. "He has an Oracle, so he doesn't need Alice." Yue had been doing this for longer than Alice, she had much more experience with divining the future. Naturally he wouldn't need an inexperienced fae Oracle anymore. "Though it's weird... how long can this last?" Laertes frowned, going into thought. "Three Oracles existing at once is against the natural laws." Fate would make it so that, someway or somehow, two would die, making one the last survivor. There's never meant to be more than one Oracle active at a time.

Even with Calciferous gone, they needed to strategize. He was already gone like a storm, but Ophie and Sonata needed to keep him safe. Now their fates were quite literally tied together. If even one of them failed, the peaceful Amiens would be overthrown, and all of Baron Pierce's hard work would be for naught. "We need to plan on eliminating the others too." Sonata said, looking intently at the silver angel. "Polaire's always alone, so it might be easier to go after her." Ophie shook her head, her crimson eyes gleaming. "We have to plan against Jensen and Lancer." Those two were always together, so they were a bigger threat. There was a good chance the two Americans would be gunning for them next.

Viola reached out, lifting Alice out of her seat. "Let's get you dressed," Alice waved to the others as she was carried upstairs, away from everyone. Viola set her down on the bed and went to the closet, rifling through all of the dresses. "How are you supposed to fight in any of these?" The half human, half demon murmured. Alice tilted her head to the side, fight? She had never fought before. "This one, I guess." Viola picked out a dress with blue ruffles and a gold collar. Alice lifted her arms up, allowing the new servant to dress her. She rose, ready to leave, btu she was stopped. "Undies, I've already been informed about making sure you're wearing them." Alice crossed her arms, hugging both Ronan and Dog against her. "Only one toy the others are to remain here." Viola lifted up her dress, noting that no, Alice was not wearing undergarments. A wrestling match of screaming and crying ensued, but Viola won, getting Alice dressed.

Echo knocked on the door not a minute after that, no longer clutching a book. "Oh, Echo, do you need help with something?" Viola inquired, blocking her path. Alice peaked out from behind her. "I came to check on Alice, Baron Pierce is busy in his office right now, but he says she should take a break from lessons today." Viola nodded, stepping out of the way. Alice bound over to Echo, who lifted her up and tapped her on the nose. Echo had grown oddly fond of the faerie, of course, it could be that she seemed incapable of liking anyone of the same species. She waltzed inside, setting Alice down at the top of the slide. Alice slid down, the two of them sitting in the ball pit. Viola made herself busy in the meanwhile, although Alice didn't know why she was still here.

"The others are on their way to becoming Barons," Echo leaned back as Alice tried to sort the balls by color. "Alice, how are you feeling? I don't think anyone's ever asked you that before." How was she feeling? Alice didn't know. "Confused," Alice admitted, looking up at Echo, who was tall now. "What did they make you do?" Alice looked at her lap, it wasn't bad, per say, but they had treated her badly. "I didn't want to perform, I didn't want to be in their circus, but everytime I told them I wanted to go home, they kept telling me I was home. If I didn't do what they wanted, they wouldn't give me dinner and they made me learn a dance." Her feet were hurting and she was always exhausted by the end of the day. "I don't want to leave the house anymore," she whispered. Echo nodded, listening. She had been kidnapped before, she knew what it was like.

Scary, confusing, but at least with Alice, there was no torture involved. "Well, you're back now, alright?" Alice nodded, coughing. She felt tired again, sleepy. Echo reached over to feel her forehead. "A man named Leo said I should take pencils." But Alice didn't know why she was supposed to have pencils. "He probably meant penicillin, I'll tell Baron Pierce." Echo reached up, picking Alice up again. "Once he's done with his meeting, you should rest though. Want to color?" Alice nodded, reaching for the coloring book and crayons.

In the late of night, Ophie found that she couldn't sleep. Was she agitated? Anxious? It was hard to say. Surely she was walking into a trap. By continuing with the Baron Race, she was doing precisely what Baron King Messiah wanted. Surely he had a plan to dispose of both her and Laertes by the end so that they couldn't cause any trouble. Ophie sighed, this whole mission really was such a hassle. She couldn't wait to be done with it. "Wait, what's..." Something was on the floor, carefully hidden behind a statue. The silver angel reached for it, finding an envelope of sorts. It had a fancy symbol sealed on it, it was the symbol of Baroness Nova. Was this a letter addressed for Echo?

Before Ophie walked towards Echo's hidden room, the silver angel thought again. There was only one person who could possibly leave a letter here like this. No one would have news for Echo other than Yue Eldriss herself, a special secret message from Baron King Messiah no doubt. So, for the sake of Heaven and for Alice, Ophelia slipped the letter out, careful not to rip the envelope.

"Dear Echo,

As you know, I have powers over time. Just like your dear fallen friend, I'm able to turn back someone's time. I hope you know what I'm getting at here. All I ask is that you come to Paris. No harm will come to you or to Baroness Zinnia, and you two will be free to do as you wish afterwards. As long as you don't return to Amiens, you can do as you please. Come to Paris, and I will grant you your wish.

Your dear friend,

Baron King Messiah"

"What's that?" Laertes popped his head up right behind her, reading the letter over her shoulder. "H-hey! That's-" She fell silent, grimacing. So Messiah was trying to do something, he wouldn't make an offer like this without some sort of contingency in mind. "I think you should give that to Nova." Laertes said with a smirk. "She's been trying all this time to bring Baroness Zinnia back, it's only right to show her that there's hope." Ophelia shook her head, her eyes narrowed. "I'd rather not Nova leave. Alice needs her right now. After losing Rene, I don't want Alice to say another goodbye so soon."

For some reason Laertes seemed almost amused as he leaned against the wall. In whispered voices he and Ophelia seemed to be quarreling in the dead of night. "It should be Echo's choice to make. We don't have the right to deprive her of that choice." Ophie frowned distinctly. "If our plan is going to work, I'd rather keep Echo and Fluorspar as far away from Paris as possible so that they don't get caught up in the action." Thanks to Laertes they knew that the Generals were causing trouble. Not only that, but the Hounds of Teranos have come from the Outlawed Lands to wreak havoc. The demon world was in turmoil right now, and Messiah was spending all of his resources to try to curb the chaos and bring order and peace back to the land.

Alice fell asleep in Baron Pierce's bed, who had no qualms with her resting there. He would rather keep her close, Viola standing guard just outside the door. In the morning, as per usual, he awoke first allowed Viola to handle waking Alice up and going through her morning routine to get her back on schedule. Bath, fight to brush teeth, brush hair, get dressed, and wrestle until underwear has put on. Once Alice was ready, Viola carried her downstairs to get her to breakfast on time, since Alice was still throwing a fit from having to wear underwear. Viola placed Alice down in her normal seat, the others not yet there. It seemed they were a few minutes early to breakfast today.

Echo arrived next, it seemed hse no longer wanted to take breakfast in her own room, perhaps feeling a bit lonely as of late. She sat down in her normal seat and looked around the table. "Where is everyone?" Sonata arrived soon after. Calciferous was still gone on his quest to hunt down Ayna, which was fine by Echo, but not Alice. "Morning," Sonata pat Alice's head as she entered. "Alice is grumpy this morning," Viola said from her corner. Alice puffed out her cheeks, "I am not!" She huffed, crossing her arms, Dog nestled in them, as per the usual. Baron Pierce arrived last, late this morning due to a phone call. "Good morning everyone," he leaned down to give Alice head pats as well, who seemed to perk up at that.

Breakfast was served, which for Alice was eggs cut into the shape of hearts with little slices of cheese in the center, bacon, and a sweet roll. She ate slowly, her stomach upset from the antibiotics. "What's wrong Alice? Normally you dig right in." Sonata asked, noticing that something was amiss immediately. "The cillin is making my tummy hurt." She couldn't recal the full name of it, just that it had a lot of l's in it. "I'm sure you all will be on your way to accumulating your points today," they were in the final stages of the Baron Exams. Surely everyone was neck and neck by now, not that Alice knew the difference. She just knew that they were away from home a lot. Ophie had been away for extra long, but she was back now and Alice was happy about that.

She didn't like it when everyone was apart, even now, with Cal gone, Alice felt especially lonely. "Alright, let's go work on your studies, you're already behind." Baron Pierce reached out to take her hand, Alice grasping it and following him up the staircase and to his office, where her school books were. She could hardly pay attention today though, even for Alice, she seemed especially distracted. "Is something on your mind?" Baron Pierce inquired, looking down at her while she struggled to fill out her alphabet. "I don't want anyone to go away again," Alice shook her head. She slid off of her seat and scrambled onto Baron Pierce's lap, feeling safer there. "Especially not me."

|| Countdown to X Day|| Sound Horizon ||

Today was quite an eventful day. "Thank you ladies so much for the help! Give our regards to Baron Pierce for us!" The foreman demon grinned, his tail swishing back and forth. Because of all the terrorist activity in the capital, there have been quite a lot of demons dying. A need for a home for orphaned demons became necessary and in Amiens, they were building exactly that. Sonata and Ophie figured they would get a whole lot of points by helping them build it. It took most of the day and the evening sun was already bright on the horizon. "Ugh, that was tiring." Ophelia muttered, rubbing her sore arms. "It was a nice change of pace, wasn't it?" Sonata was all smiles, the sunny girl loved doing altruistic things like this.

It was time for them to go home now and the two girls confirmed that they gained a good decent amount of points for helping build an orphanage for the demons who lost their parents in the chaos. As the bus took them back towards Baron Pierce's estate, Ophie checked her pocket. With a nod, she made sure the candy was still there. "Geez, you're going to spoil her." Sonata grinned, shaking her head. "You got sweet on Alice pretty sweet, didn't you?" Ophie frowned, narrowing her eyes. "You're not all sinners, only most of you are." She still hated demons and humans as a whole, but there were still good apples in the bunch if you knew where to look. In this case, all you needed to do was look north of Paris.

Back in Amiens, Laertes was waiting for them. He had news, as he was scouting around the area. "I have some information you two might want." He said, showing the mthe pictures he took on the phone Pierce let him borrow for the time being. On the edge of Pierce's territory, two demons were spotted. What were they doing? What were they looking at? "Jensen and Lancer." The two American demons were there, observing. Was that duo going to target them next? "If it comes to a fight, we'll be ready." Sonata said, her voice suddenly hard. "But for now, we should focus on making sure Ayna goes down this month." After this month there was one final month, where the fifth and final elimination would take place.

It was dinner time now so Ophelia went with Sonata and Laertes to the dinner table. Calciferous was still out hunting down Ayna, but Alice was already there with Pierce and Viola, the new girl. Did she have a good day today? "Here, some candy for when you finish your dinner." Ophie pulled the candy out of her pocket, handling it in front of Alice's face. She still looked a little sick, even with the penicillin. "Get well soon, then we can fly again and try to reach the stars." Once Alice was back in full health, the household would definitely brighten up.

"Alice, do you want to go for a walk?" Baron Pierce asked, "the leaves are changing color, it would be nice to take a stroll through the orchard." Alice nodded, they had just finished eating lunch. "Okay," she slid off of his lap and reached for Dog, who Baron Pierce handed to her. He took her hand and led her to the door, where Viola was waiting with a jacket. "It's cold out," she said, helping Alice into it and buttoning it up. When the door opened, Alice's breah was taken away, the cold making her sneeze. Baron Pierce led her outside, the grass crunchy, it was turning yellow. The leaves were all different colors and made sounds when she stepped on the fallen ones. "Alice, look." Baron Pierce pointed to the large pile of leaves that had been raked up by the staff.

She glanced at it, hiding behind him. "What is it?" Alice asked, clinging to him. "Come on, I'll show you. Turn your back to it and put your arms out like this," she did as told. "Now fall backwards," Alice closed her eyes, falling backwards into the large pile of leaves. Her eyes lit up as she dug out of it and jumped into it again and again. Baron Pierce laughed, watching her. "Alright, let's move on before the staff begins to hate us." He took her hand again, the two of them walking through the strawberry orchard. Baron Pierce plucked them right off, plump and juicy and gave Alice a few to try. She liked them, she decided, they were sweet and the juices dribbled down her chin. She tried to feed one to Dog, but Baron Pierce warned her not to, or else the juice might stain him.

"I'm tired," Alice said suddenly, they hadn't gone far. "Alright, I'll carry you. It's probably because you're still sick silly," he lifted her up, carrying her back towards the house. Viola waited for them with warm blankets and wiped Alice's face with a damp cloth to get the strawberry juice off. They sat in front of the fire, Baron Pierce reading to her as Alice sat on his lap, trying to figure out the big words on her own. The others returned soon after that and it was time for dinner. She clambered into her chair, placing Dog on the table so he could eat too. "Candy," she placed it next to her cake so that when she finished, she could suck on it.

"You have to eat your vegetables first," Baron Pierce chided, glancing at Ophie. "Not too many sweets, or else you might get sick." Alice nodded, picking up her spoon to drink her soup. She was tired after dinner, her lungs burning from the pneumonia. She sucked on her candy, Viola picking her up. "Say goodnight Alice," Viola instructed, picking up Dog, knowing that Alice would panic if he was left behind. "Goodnight Alice," she yawned sleepily, allowing Viola to carry her upstairs. Once pajamas were on, she was practically asleep already and Viola turned on the heater in the blanket, Alice drifting right off with her three stuffed dogs, snuggled under the blanket.

It was a little bit of a secret, but it was actually Calciferous's birthday today. The sad thing about this was that Ophelia had no idea quite what to do about it. Clearly something had to be done. Maybe it would help bring back some happiness into the house. With all of the recent events things had been stressed. Ophelia frowned, knowing that she was far from being a particularly good mood maker. She would have to take this information to someone who knew better. "Good morning, me." She said quietly, gazing out the window before she got herself dressed and made her way down the stairs. Her wings fluttered with each step as she made her way down. "I see some things haven't changed." Laertes stuck his tongue out at her at the breakfast table. "You're always the last one to wake up."

"I blame my circadian cycle." The silver angel murmured, giving a small wave to everyone. She made sure to look at Alice before sitting herself down. How was the little fae Oracle doing? Was her health improving? Was her pigmentation going back to normal yet? "Good morning." Sonata said with a sunny grin, a twinkle in her eye. "Now that everyone's here, I have an announcement!" Sonata cleared her throat before turning to the table. "Today is Calciferous's birthday! The big oaf is kind of a traditionalist, so he's definitely going to want presents and a party. Hopefully he'll be here tonight so let's make cake and get presents for him?" She looked to Pierce for approval and Baron Pierce nodded. A party would definitely be something that would help them return to the joyous old days that they used to enjoy.

Perhaps it made perfect sense that Sonata, Calciferous's adopted daughter, would be the one who would make the suggestion in the end. Naturally, Ophelia agreed. She nodded, her tails bobbing slightly with the movement. "Since there isn't much time, should we divide the duties a little?" Sonata smiled, showing them a list she made with her holo. "I already thought of that! I split everyone into groups! Me and Nova are going to go out to the town to buy gifts for him. Laertes, you Viola and Julian are in charge of decoration. And that means..." She pointed at Baron Pierce in particular.

"Master, you, Ophie, and Alice will be in charge of making the cake, okay?" Making cake? Laertes burst into laughter, tears brewing in his eyes. "Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to laugh. It's just, Ophie's real bad in the kitchen. Once she tried to make chocholates for Queen Celeste and gave her food poisoning for a week!" Ophie blushed, glaring at her brother. "It'll be fine, I'll just follow Baron Pierce's instructions." Surely he would know how to make a cake. People like him tended to know a little of everything after all, how hard could a cake really be?

Make a cake? Alice looked between Baron Pierce and Ophelia, she was struggling to eat her breakfast again this morning, but Viola had said that if she didn't eat all of her bacon, she wouldn't be able to eat any dessert at lunch. Alice munched on her bacon and drank a cup of milk, feeling strange after, but she wanted to help make the cake. "I can do it too," Baron Pierce lifted her up. "Alright, let's go to the kitchen you two. We'll have the chef help us," Baron Pierce, contrary to what Ophie might think, could not cook to save his life. That's why he employed multiple humans in the kitchen, ones who would know how to make a cake better than anyone and could help them bake it. "Excuse me?" Baron Pierce shifted Alice to one arm and opened up the door. "I hate to bother you all, but I am in need of some assistance."

"Baron Pierce!" The cooks all scrambled to line up, grateful to a Baron that gave them a place of employ and did not abuse them like some of the other Barons. "What can we do for you?" The Head Chef asked, a demon by the name of Crane. He adjusted his toque, standing upright. "Well, today is Calciferous's birthday and I was wondering if you could help us three bake a cake?" they looked around in question. "Baron Pierce, we can make the cake without issue, just give us the or-" he held up a hand and shook his head. "Ophie, Alice, and I would like to do it ourselves. We simply need your guidance," Crane nodded his head. "Alright, I understand." He cleared a counter for them to work on and preheated the oven. "Come over here and I'll gather the ingredients for you." Baron Pierce walked inside, he had hardly ever been in the kitchen, only to order minor repairs and sometimes to check in on the staff.

He placed Alice on the counter so that she could see what was happening and beckoned to Ophie to join him. Crane brought them ingredients, giving them instructions on what to do. He made Alice wash her hands with soap that didn't need water and then let her crack one of the eggs into the bowl. She even got to dump some ingredients in and use the whisk. One of the su chefs made tea while they waited for the cake to bake and once it was done, they were shown how to make frosting. Alice held the piping bag, Baron Pierce and Ophie guiding her on how to decorate it. "I don't think it looks half bad," Baron Pierce said, patting both Alice and Ophie's heads. "I made it!" Alice said, possessive of everything as usual. "Dog helped too!" Baron Pierce laughed, "Yes, Dog helped too."

"What do you think Ophie? Will Cal like it?" Baron Pierce inquired, she had been an incredible help during this entire process. Now that they had a cake, he thought it apt that they begin to decorate. "I want to help decorate too!" Alice said, suddenly breaking into a coughing fit. "Perhaps you and Ophie should take a break?" Baron Pierce glanced at Ophie, hoping she caught hint of his suggestion. He didn't want Alice to overexert herself, even if it was nice to see her excited about something again. "You need your rest, Dog does too." She grabbed his hand, placing it on her head. "But I want to help," Alice whimpered.

|| Countdown to X Day|| Sound Horizon ||

As the different groups, as assigned by Sonata, who was feeling particularly bossy today, dispersed about the mansion to get ready for their individual tasks, Ophelia stepped a little closer to Baron Pierce and Alice. She looked at Pierce, knowing full well that even if Ophie was a failure in the kitchen, Pierce would definitely be the kind of person who would know how to make a wonderful and delicious cake for Calciferous when he returned, with or without Ayna's points added to his own total. "I will follow your lead, Baron Pierce." The silver angel gave her best attempt at a smile, her tails coiling against each other. "Let's make a good cake for Cal, Alice. Then he'll probably try to make you laugh again." It was his secret little project, he wanted to teach Alice how to laugh and enjoy jokes.

For some reason even though Baron Pierce was clearly a genius that knew all about baking and cooking, he called the cooks in. They lined up in a row, eager to serve. Instead of doing the cooking though, the cooks and the chefs would be simply acting as guides. That made sense, Ophie thought. Even though Pierce knew how to make cakes, he was concerned for Calciferous and wanted to make sure the cake was of high quality as possible. The cooking staff were paid to be good at this, so any instructions from them would only help make the end product even better. She nodded to herself, that made sense to her. Ingredients gathered, the silver angel joined her two cooking partners by the counter. She pulled the sleeves up on her black robe, she didn't want to get them dirty after all. "Your hair, Ophie." Pierce reminded her and she nodded as one of the cooks handed her something to wrap her hair in so it wouldn't get everywhere.

It was a lot of work and Ophelia did her best to follow orders dutifully and diligently. As long as you did as you were told, and that what you were told was the right thing, couldn't anyone make a good cook? "Is it done?" She asked as they set the cake to bake. Apparently not, since now they had to make frosting to decorate the cake with. Alice was given the special role of being in charge of actually decorating the cake. "Here, Cal likes electricity, so try to add some lightning shapes with the frosting." She said as a suggestion, and Baron Pierce helped guide Alice's hands to properly make the shapes.

Eventually it was done, and they all seemed satisfied. Alice did more than Ophie did - it made sense that an Angel Knight who spent most of her life training wasn't the best at domestic tasks like this. "I think it looks good." The angel said calmly. Alice wanted to keep working but it was clear she was tired out. "Come, Alice, I'm not feeling well, so can you help me to the parlor so I can rest a little?" She lied, wanting Alice to rest too. "I have to tend to the garden, so keep an eye on Ophie and let me know if she starts to look ill." Baron Pierce told Alice after helping them both to the parlor to enjoy a break by the fire's heat.
