Once, mankind lived in a world of gods and monsters. Vengeful, voracious, and larger than life; mortals lived in both awe and terror of them. The Olympians, as they came to be called, treated the world as their playground, and the Greeks couldnโ€™t get enough. Tales of their grand affairs, vicious conflicts, and the feats of their children were sung all across the peninsula, and that belief and adulation fueled their power even more. The power of belief so often is overlooked, and as the world began changing, the Olympians paid it no mind--until it was too late. As fewer and fewer mortals continued to worship the old gods, people finding new religions to follow and stories to tell, the might of the once supreme Olympian gods began to wane. By the dawn of Christianity, they were undeniably diminished, and in a last ditch effort to preserve their godhood, the Greek gods combined their powers to create their own pocket dimension, taking with them both the faithful, and their creatures of legend. They called it Olympia.

For centuries, the Olympians licked their wounds, gaining strength and consolidating power from their followers in Olympia. But quarters are tight in so small and isolated a reality, and as competition for the precious power that came with their followers heightened, constant war became the reality of this world. With the Renaissance however, and the resurgence in popularity of the Greek mythos, the Olympians once again ventured forth to walk the Earth. The world was certainly different from the one they had left so long ago, but some things never change, and their godly appetites certainly hadnโ€™t. In a matter of years, earth was once again littered with demigods, and it was then that the Olympians made a course altering discovery. The success, influence, and renown of their progeny gave them power; just as surely as throngs of followers in Olympia could. That realization was a game changer, at least for the more ambitious of the gods, and with it came the founding of, what is known today as, the Legacy Academy for Higher Learning, and the annual Agon..

Before the Founding of Legacy Academy, and the Agon in Olympia, it was commonplace for the warring gods to kill each otherโ€™s children, or even set the demigods against each other. Children were murdered in an endless cycle that even the most hardened of the gods grew wary of. With the Academy, came a compact amongst the gods; the killing would stop, and the greatest of the godsโ€™ favor would only be granted to the worthy in a test that became known as the Agon.

Demigods of all parentage are allowed to compete in teams against harrowing challenges that change every year. Only the winning team receive gifts from the gods, but exceptional standouts have the opportunity to display their worth as well. The Agon is watched by all the students of the academy, but also the powerful and influential demigods of the wider world. It is a proving ground of sorts to create oneโ€™s own power base, but also to be added to that of an older more powerful demigodโ€™s should a student catch their eye. No Agon however, should every be entered lightly, as the danger is real, and death, while not exceptionally common, has been known to occur during the course on the events. Regardless of the number of members allowed on a given team, each member falls into one of the following categories:

Brain members as a category tend to be key strategists or leads for a team. Their strengths play into the knowledge they bring to the table and their abilities to out think any kind of puzzle challenges they come up against. One year the Agon was a massive labyrinth filled with monsters and riddles, so their importance to the group is not to be underestimated.

Brawn is typically the tank combative role. They do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to fighting, and a group's' offensive strategy tends to be built around them. If there is not at least two on a given team, they are in trouble.

Support is a more complicated category, but these team members have talents that lend themselves to acting as compliments to the group's more offensive members (ei: a child of Aphrodite using their ability to manipulate the emotions of the enemy to create an opening for their teammate to attack). Support members often times enter specifically with a brawn member because of their complementing abilities. Children of Demeter using their plant/weather based abilities to help heal or renew the group's supplies also hit into this category, as their role is literally to support the group.

Special is the broadest category, but covers members of the team with specialized abilities that may or may not give a team the winning edge. The visions of the future some children of Apollo have fit here, as well as the luck factor of Hestia's children, or Poseidon's ability to breath under water. That is not to say the team members in this role are incapable of combat, but their primary usefulness lies in their more unique talent.

The young competitors of Legacy Academy find themselves at the dawn of this springโ€™s annual Agon, each entering for their own reasons, but all determined to win. The festivities and pomp are to be expected, all given the heroesโ€™ sendoff they deserve. Cheers, ceremonies, and parades featuring the younger students are watched from afar as the challenging demigods mentally prepare at their group's drop point for the trials to come. Nothing however, could prepare them for the impending chaos they witnessed. Instead of toasts and inspiring speeches, they watch as the gods, their parents, slowly convulse, turning to stone. For one sickening breath, the stadium is quiet, and the drakons descend. Without the gods to hold open the gate, the portal to Earth begins fizzling away behind the backdrop of teachers scrambling for weapons to defend the more helpless students. And with the teachersโ€™ attention diverted, even the heroes small viewing glass goes dark; leaving them stranded in a dangerous land with no way home, no idea what has just happened, and no clue who to trustโ€ฆ

King of Olympia and consummate womanizer, Zeus is both the most powerful of the gods, and has the most children. He spends much of his time upon his mountain throne in Olympia, but does visit earth often, both to see some of his countless offspring, and to create more. Due to the sheer number of children he has, Zeus can often be quite forgetful of all but his favorites, so competition for his favor is fierce. While he is not the most involved of godly parents, Zeus does have a knack for aiding his own when most needed. Children of Zeus tend to be the most successful and driven of all the demigods, and it is rare to see any of them without a driving purpose in their life. They are also the demigods with the best chance of being gifted with godly tokens, should they catch their fatherโ€™s favor of course, and rarely does the winning team at the tourney not include a child of Zeus. Heracles for example was given immortality and a place in Olympia, though the number of demigods ever given such gifts are small. All children of Zeus are however, born with an immunity to (and minor control of) lightning, superhuman strength, and natural charisma that make them excellent leaders; should they choose to take up that mantle. Most of his children also have the uncanny ability to sense coming storms, though they canโ€™t manipulate them, and like all the big three, some of Zeusโ€™ children have been known to cause ground tremors if angry enough, though few have true control to make this useful.

Wife of Zeus and patron goddess of the dominant and ever conquering Amazon tribe now residing in Olympia. As Zeus constantly engages in adulterous human affairs, Hera has opted to act in kind, now considering herself a liberated woman. The godly couple have agreed to engage in an open marriage, if somewhat bitterly. Hera does not have nearly the number of children that Zeus does, but she does have one every now and again. With her newly powerful position within Olympia, thanks to her conquering Amazons, Hera is more often in Olympia than not, though she is always mindful to pop in on her childrenโ€™s birthdays. She prefers to take a backseat regarding parenting, but she is loyal to her children and always offers aid regardless of specific favor. This extends to the Amazons as well, who are always keen to aid a child of their patron goddess. Children of Hera tend to be female, though not all, and are known to suffer from their motherโ€™s famous bouts of jealousy. They are also known for their keen intelligence and patience, though this is not a universal trait. Children of Hera, while not as supernaturally strong as the children or Zeus or Ares, are gifted in the way of raw physical prowess and most notably ambition. The children of Hera are also notorious for their ability to hold a grudge, so itโ€™s wise not to cross them.

The goddess of wisdom and patron of Athens, she was known as a virgin goddess in her time as a deity of the Greeks. She has since then disposed of that title with a vengeance, and has proven to take after her father in regards to both libido and attitude toward her children. One of the advantages of being a goddess; short pregnancies. Most are only carried for about two or three months, meaning she generally has on average at least three children a year. Athena aids only those she believes have displayed cunning, intellect, or ingenuity, and can be rather brutally blunt about those of her children she does or does not favor. Those who develop these traits she visits often, other than that however, she is one of the most absentee parents within the pantheon. Children of Athena tend to be more academic, whether by nature or design. Avid reading, high scoring, and excellent critical thinking tend to be common traits exhibited. Children of Athena are also gifted with photographic memories, and a keen mind for spotting connections where others see only random chaos.

Know by many today as the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite was really in fact, the goddess of deadly or consuming passion. Next to Zeus, she has the most offspring within the pantheon. She is also one of the most doting and freest with her gifts and favor. Any child of Aphrodite is gifted with beauty, and they often tend to be lucky or talented as well. Aphrodite is one of the few Olympian gods who gifts their children at birth, which helps their offspring greatly in life, but puts a drain on her own powers. Aphrodite is however, also one of the few gods still revered greatly in pop culture today, giving her a source of power to work with both from Olympia and Earth. She thrives in this new modern world, and is on Earth more often than Olympia, causing troublesome affairs and in general making people more passionate. She can however, also be rather flighty, so for children of Aphrodite, contact with their godly mother tends to be random and on her terms. Children of Aphrodite also tend to be passionate people, whether itโ€™s regarding love, and interest, or a cause. They are however, known to be resistant to commitment, and as restless as the wind. All children of Aphrodite are strikingly beautiful, and while they lack the enhanced physical power many of their demigod peers enjoy, they have the ability to manipulate the emotions of others. This can make them excellent crisis managers, defusing heated situations, or efficient weapons against enemy forces. Children of Aphrodite also tend to inspire lust, regardless of gender, and it is a rare occurrence for one to ever know rejection.

Perhaps the god who has had the hardest time adjusting to the changes of the world, Ares is a god languishing, for the most part, in constant boredom. In his mind, the world has become a pathetic mix of civility and lack of finesse. Warfare has become either mechanical or guerrilla tactics, leaving the glory of the battlefield both tainted and dull. Peopleโ€™s generally negative attitude toward warfare is also a bone of contention with the god of war, but for the most part he regards Earth as too civil, and Olympia as boring. The only real comfort Ares has found in this new modern world: sports. Boxing, Wrestling, Football, Basketball (not so much baseball...) name a sport and heโ€™s tried it. The competitive drive and adrenaline rush from this is truly the closest thing he can find to that of the good old days, and sports, along with lots of sex, tends to be what occupies his time on Earth. Due to his vigorous sex life, Ares does have children. The children of Ares however, tend to be the most varied and unpredictable, though always strong. Some of his offspring have been champions and companions of Greeceโ€™s greatest heroes, and others have been some of the worst monsters to stalk the peninsula. Therefore, unlike many of his godly counterparts, Ares is a big advocate of condoms. For all his faults, and there are many, Ares tries to be a very honest and straightforward kind of guy, and heโ€™s man enough to admit heโ€™s not much of a father. But when one catches as much tail as Ares does, a few balls are bound to get past the goalie. There is no universal profile for a child of Ares, though they do tend to be more aggressive, and very athletic. Any child of Ares also has physical strength that far exceeds the average human, but that level of strength varies. For the most part, Ares is a pretty uninvolved parent, though he tries to do right by his kids when he can, and it is not unheard of for him to take special interest in one of his children every once in awhile. Gifts from Ares, though rare, tend to be in the form of enhanced weapons.

God of music, foresight, and later the sun, Apollo is both a master musician and archer. Apollo is also known for his tragic or unrequited love affairs, so he tends to overcompensate for this by being very involved with his children. He is by far the most doting of the gods as far as attention is concerned, and owns several residencies on Earth. He has even gone as far as acquiring the human alias Andrew Harper, so as to have visitation time in a more normal setting with his children. He tends to have fewer children than the average god, but Apollo also checks up with the children of his twin sister Artemis, as he feels a bond to them as well. Apollo is greatly attached to all of his children, but his nearly constant presence on Earth makes his ability to grant godly gifts very limited. He will offer aid to his children in desperate times, but that is all he can really spare. Many of his children are however, born with either the gift of foresight, raw musical talent, or slightly enhanced physical ability, which helps to compensate. Unfortunately, children of Apollo also tend to inherit their fatherโ€™s penchant for unhappy love lives.

Once known as the virgin goddess of the hunt and all things wild, Artemis is today a goddess torn. The modern world is anything but wild, and the constant pollution and destruction of earthโ€™s most wild and sacred places has soured her position on humanity somewhat. Artemis tends to stay in Olympia, though she will on occasion venture back toward Earth when sheโ€™s feeling either nostalgic, or particularly protective of a wild place being threatened that she is fond of. Artemis does on occasion have children, but she is the goddess of the wilds, not motherhood, and she has never taken hold of that mantle well. Her brother has always been the better parent between the two of them, and his over eagerness to connect with her children has assuaged Artemisโ€™s guilt somewhat over her absentee parenting. On the whole, children of Artemis tend to be loners, more attuned to nature, and are beloved by animals. They also have a natural talent for archery, and slightly enhanced physical prowess. Like their mother, they have been known to be stubborn, and have garnered a reputation for holding fast to their convictions in the face of adversity...or common sense. They are often more at home in wooded places than cities, though one should never made the mistake of overlooking a child of Artemis. They are passionate, and like the wild things they so love, children of Artemis can be extremely dangerous when properly motivated.

God of the seas, and all that dwell within them, Poseidon is a god known for his great contradictions. His temper is legendary, and few know how to hold a grudge quite like him. At the same time, he is also fiercely loyal and protective of those he sees as his own. In the same stroke, Poseidon can be both kind and brutal, and one can never predict his oncoming moods. Poseidon, much like his nephew Ares, is a god greatly disappointed by the modern world. People still travel through his domain, but the level of pollution and disrespect shown to the oceans by the human race set their patron god into terrible rages. Poseidon often retreats to the purer waters of Olympia, where his merfolk and other favored creatures have long since fled. Oddly enough, he usually returns to Earth during hurricane season, often helping the storms along when heโ€™s feeling particularly vengeful. As a father, he at least tries to be involved, and has never failed to aid one of his children in need. Poseidon however, is also controlling by nature, and has a tendency to act possessively, a habit that has led to estrangement with more than one of his offspring. The children of Poseidon are all blessed with the ability to breath underwater. Some have even developed the ability to manipulate water in a limited capacity. Like all the big three, some of Poseidonโ€™s children have been known to cause ground tremors if angry enough, though few have true control to make this useful.

As the goddess of the harvest, and guardian of sacred law, Demeter is perhaps the god most tied inescapably to Earth and itโ€™s people. On Earth, she tends to live a fairly nomadic lifestyle, traveling with the harvest seasons, and relieving famine where ever she goes. As the patron goddess of Corinthia, one of the three great human cities in Olympia, Demeter is one of the more important and powerful gods there. She tends to side with her brother Zeus though, preserving the natural order, and rarely seeks out conflict herself. She can however be dangerous when riled, as the weather has a habit of reflecting her moods. While not common, Demeter does have children, and she likes to keep them close. As transient as the season, Demeter cycles through visits to her offspring like clockwork. Because of that, it had become prudent for the children of Demeter to plan out time with their mother months in advance. These children have a tendency to inherit their motherโ€™s generally calm demeanor, and almost all have a very strong sense of justice. Their powers include a heightened sense of nature, and the ability to manipulate plants. Many children of Demeter also have a strong affinity for the healing arts, and their ability to quickly grow healing herbs make them valuable additions to any team.

As the goddess of hearth and home, it is rare that Hestia will take up a human lover, and even rarer that she will let them remember the experience. Regardless of feelings, there is never a future for a god and human coupling, no home to be had for either in such an affair. Because of that, Hestia never allows her offspring to stay with either parent, and instead gifts her children to human couples struggling to start a family. Oddly enough, Hestia owns many adoption agencies on Earth, and the industry has become a current hobby. The children of Hestia are gifted with natural good fortune that tends to rub off on the ones they are close to, and are instinctive homemakers. While not universal, they are often great with people, making them ideal for careers involving emotional intelligence. They also have a limited control of fire, and like their mother, can summon a small flame to their hand wherever they may be.

Of all the gods, Hades is perhaps the least affected by the changes in the world. Death is his domain, and whether mortals venerate him or not, it is inescapable. The creation of Olympia has however, granted Hades a somewhat elevated status, as the Underworld serves as a linking dimension between Earth and the new home of the gods. To pass between the two requires a route through Hades, and no one crosses the river Styx without paying their toll; even gods. Had Hades been a more ambitious god, Zeus may have faced serious competition for rule in Olympia. Luckily, the god of the dead has always been something of a homebody, but he does venture forth from his throne in the underworld on occasion. While not quite as notoriously lustful as his brothers, Hades does have godly appetites, and is father to his own slew of demigods. As a father, Hades is far from perfect, but rarely plays favorites. All his children are equal in death, and if he sees them rarely in life, they will be with him for eternity soon enough. Time is a concept somewhat skewed for all the gods, but in Hades it is the most pronounced. Children of Hades tend to inherit his calm demeanor, but little else is uniform regarding personality. They do however, have a knack for achieving success, and tend to have unusual good fortune. Their powers can also be a bit varied, with some developing a strong affinity to the earth (causing minor earthquakes if distressed or developed properly) or manipulating shadow, but all have the ability to commune with the dead and find the scattered gateways that lead to the underworld.

The messenger of the gods, and patron deity of thieves, Hermes was known to be quite the trickster in his day. That is a habit that has not changed, and whether on Earth or Olympia, he has a talent for stirring the pot wherever he goes. Hermes is a traveler by nature, often bouncing between his homes on Earth and Olympia for both work and pleasure. This has left him with a collection of offspring, though his own brood is modest compared to many of his godly counterparts. Hermesโ€™ parenting style is what one might describe as unconventional, often appearing to his children in disguise and wreacking some kind of havoc in their lives--character building of course. Because of this, the relationship with his children can sometimes be strained, though none of them live boring lives. Hermes can think of no greater gift to give his children; whether they agree with him is a different matter. The children of Hermes are blessed with unnatural speed, and even the children of Zeus or Ares are no match for their swiftness. They also tend to inherit their fatherโ€™s notoriously light fingers, and children of Hermes have a penchant for getting themselves into sticky situations--though they always manage to wriggle their way out.

The blacksmith of the gods, and patron of all craftsmen, Hephaestus is at home in this new world of metal and invention. The endless wars of Olympia ensure Hephaestus is never short of work, but his spare time is always spent on Earth, reveling in the new discoveries there to be had. Of all the gods, Hephaestus has the most respect for humanityโ€™s potential, though he does not often interact with them at a personal level. Because of that, it is rare that he has children, and his manner with those that he does have leaves something to be desired. While Hephaestus might visit his children occasionally, people have never been his strong suit, and he is more likely to watch and aid his offspring from afar. Children of Hephaestus are prone to obsessive tendencies, and like the children of Athena, are gifted with high (almost genius level) intellect. There is no set industry or skill set all of his children conform to, but they each are talented in some regard. Whether that takes the shape of architecture, mechanics, or computer science, these talents are wildly varied. Some children of Hephaestus also have gained a limited control of fire, though this is rare.

By far the most mysterious of all the gods, Hecate is the goddess of magic, crossroads, and a great conjurer of human souls. The extent of her powers is largely unknown, as she generally keeps a low profile by godly standards, but even Zeus is careful to give this goddess her due. Often residing in the Underworld due to her fascination with the dead, she is closest with the god Hermes, as they share an affinity for the in-between, and the tumbler of possibilities that come with places in transition. As a mother Hecate is distant, preferring to nurture from afar. She is however, careful to guide her children to their greatest potential, and has been known to leave them tokens of her affection in a stray doorway or window sill. While all demigods are capable of accessing the arcane magics of the ether, the children of Hecate have the greatest access and most powerful command. This allows them to practise a wide range of arcane magics, such as necromancy, defensive and offensive spells, or healing. Unlike other demigods, the children of Hecate do not exhaust themselves when accessing their essences for arcane magic, making them the only group capable of using it effectively in the field as a weapon.

The god of wine, fertility, and madness, Dionysus is known for being both the life of any party, and having a vindictive talent for revenge. Less known, is that he was born a demigod, his mother very much mortal. The true story of Dionysusโ€™s ascension to godhood remains murky, but the one element all agree upon was that immortality was bestowed upon the young god by his father Zeus. He is also the only god capable of successfully fetching a mortal soul from the clutches of Hades, though it is stunt he rarely pulls. With party culture very much alive in the modern world, Dionysus is more often on Earth than he is Olympia, and is often accompanied by either his satyrs, or the Maenads heโ€™s collected in his travels. Regardless, he rarely travels alone. As a father, Dionysus is far from ideal, and is hardly the model of stability. He rarely shows interest in any of his offspring, though some have been known to join his procession as Maenads, whether they meant to or not. Despite this lack of parenting, Dionysus leaves a trail of children wherever he goes (he isnโ€™t a god of fertility for nothing). These children have an affinity for growing plants that is only second to the children of Demeter, and more terrifying, can implant madness within the minds of others. They are also capable of helping to ease anotherโ€™s madness, but this is significantly harder. Children of Dionysus tend to be social extroverts that dislike being alone, and their ability to summon wine upon command has a habit of making them popular.

Rules

1.) No godmodding. This is a cooperative RP, so any action in the story between characters needs to be hashed out and agreed to between all writers involved before the fact. Drama is fun in the story, but infinitely less so between writers, so letโ€™s all try not to step on each othersโ€™ toes. :)

2.) Character Reservations should be done via the OOC page. I will need the gender, godly parent, tentative face claim you want for your reservation, and which of these modern Greek gods youโ€™d most like to grab a sandwich with. Details please. :)

3.) You are welcome to multiple reservations, but keep the gender ratio even. I also reserve the right to reject any character on the basis of literacy, completeness, or lack of use/understanding of the source material above. I spent a hell of a lot of time on the background for all of this, and it will not be ignored. Adding more details to your characterโ€™s personal story with their godly parent is fine, but keep their story in-character for the god profile listed above.

4.) This is a mature RP. Violence is involved, and a certain level of crude language is to be expected as a possibility. Romance is also allowed and encouraged for plot purposes, but following the site guidelines, keep it PG-13. If things get too hot and heavy, fade to black. You can always take it to PM if you guys want to explore the whole scene, but keep that part private.

5.) Real life gets us all, Iโ€™m guilty of that as well, but if you have to disappear for a while, you need to let me know. You can even assign someone to move your character(s) along in the plot passively until you can return. If however, you leave without warning, and this lack of contact stalls out the plot in excess of a week, your character will be killed off.

6.) Have fun! :D

The annual pre-Agon bash was Legacy Academyโ€™s worst kept secret. Considering most of the staff were alumni, that wasnโ€™t surprising. Generally, there was a long standing tradition that for this one night the teachers would turn a blind eye, the consensus being if the students were old enough to risk death in the field for gods and glory, theyโ€™d earned the right to some Grey Goose. For the studentsโ€™ sakes that was fortunate, as some idiot this year had decided on a kind of rave theme, and that light show was fucking hard to miss.

โ€œWhatever happened to being subtleโ€ฆโ€ Lee grumbled, feeling thoroughly old as he stared across the lake to the student side of campus. A decade wasnโ€™t a comparatively long period of time, especially to the company heโ€™d been keeping lately, but in this moment it felt like a yawning chasm that had somehow begun to define his life. Ten years ago, it had been him acting like a dumbass at that party, naรฏve, reckless, actually eager for the day to come. Heโ€™d walked into that slaughter with a grin on his face, so sure he was about to get his petty wish to humiliate his father. How much that wish had cost himโ€ฆLee took another swig from his half empty bottle of bourbon, hoping he could wash down the unpleasant memories threatening to surface.

โ€œOuch, whatโ€™s your liver done to you lately?โ€ The voice brushed past him like a soft summer wind, spreading warmth across Leeโ€™s skin that has nothing to do with the bourbon. He shivered, not interested in the peace being offered. Lee didnโ€™t deserve it tonight, and being comforted by a god somehow felt like a betrayal of those heโ€™d lost. The fact theyโ€™d engaged in a few drunken mistakes didnโ€™t change that, so Lee said nothing. Stoney silence had a wonderful habit of making people leave.

Side stepping the hint, Apollo saddled up to him instead, gently reaching for the bourbon. โ€œAlrightโ€ฆbut maybe we should at least pace ourselves a little.โ€ The tone wasnโ€™t judgmental, but Lee snapped at him anyway.

โ€œI donโ€™t have a drinking problem Andy.โ€ Lee jabbed at the godโ€™s current moniker, cradling the bottle protectively to his side. If Apollo was offended by it, he hid his displeasure well, instead raising a brow as his summer green eyes swept across the pile of discarded bottles Lee may have pre-gamed with.

โ€œSome of those are Juneโ€™s.โ€ It sounded defensive even to Leeโ€™s ears, but he wasnโ€™t going to apologize for it. Not tonight. Apollo agreed with a wane smile, sliding his hand down to Leeโ€™s in a loose grip that the son of Poseidon was both grateful for, and immediately disgusted with himself for wanting. Even if it wasnโ€™t tonight, demigods knew better than anyone how relationships between gods and mortals ended. Why Lee continued to court disaster withโ€ฆwhatever it was they were doing here, was beyond his logic, but he couldnโ€™t bring himself to pull away from it either; betrayal or not.

โ€œWOOOOOOOO! LIZARDS RULE!โ€

Youโ€™d think these idiots never had tequila before. Abby thought tersely, as a junior covered in neon glow paint streaked across the field with nothing but a baseball cap shielding his jewels and a sparkler waving frantically in hand. The scene up field wasnโ€™t much tamer, as throngs of students covered in neon bounced and bobbed (in what Abby could only assume was an attempt at dancing) under pulsing strobe lights and black lit canvas. The makeshift dance floor and accompanying bars were covered in more of that glow paint, which was only made more surreal by the fireworks shooting off in the distance. Someone must have recruited the Hephaestus or Hecate kids for the pyrotechnics, because the colors stayed in the sky far longer than natural with pictures of everything from the classical to obscene dancing around in the sparks.

The spring air was warmer than usual tonight, which was fortunate for the student body since most of their outfits were on the bare side of skimpy. Enough to make Abby feel over dressed in her Aerosmith tee and cut-offs anyway, but she hunched into her jean jacket regardless. Party pooper? Maybe, but she definitely wasnโ€™t drunk enough to be cooped up in this crowd. Big day coming up or not, that was a problem in Abbyโ€™s power to solve. Glancing around at the open bars, it looked like the neon theme had extended to the drinks, with brightly colored liquids and jello shots littering every flat surface. Whether it was simply clever lighting, or less perceivable sources giving the drinks that unearthly glow, Abby was more interested in the less assuming bottle of Jack. Unfortunately, it was sitting on the middle bar right by the dancefloorโ€ฆand Wesley Tate. Just because they were teammates didnโ€™t mean she liked him, much less the gaggle of minions and leeches currently surrounding their self-proclaimed team leader. Abby would be stuck listening to his crap enough starting tomorrowโ€ฆnot to mention Sebastian, (Who came with his own special set of annoyances.) so she decided to take her chances at another bar.

Lux and Greer (The two people here she might actually have enjoyed drinking with.) were nowhere in sight, but she spotted Maya Torres not surprisingly at the one tiki themed bar set up. It was both glaringly out of place with its fake palm trees and plastic birds, and somehow fit in with the accompanying LED sting lights and shimmering iridescent bubbles. Abby had a hunch the tiki bar had been Mayaโ€™s doing, if her hula skirt and light up coconut bra was anything to go by. Maya was alright, though not necessarily Abbyโ€™s first choice in drinking companion. Still, the lure of rum might have been enough to draw her that way if Abby hadnโ€™t heard Lottie by the neighboring bar.

โ€œUmm t-thatโ€™s ok, I donโ€™t mind! Iโ€™m actually kind of chilly.โ€ The shy demigodโ€™s voice practically squeaked as she wrapped the ugliest neon green sweater Abby had ever seen more tightly around herself. Lottie was with a couple other sophomore girls in similarly warm clothing. โ€œLucas, weโ€™re fine..really! We just wanted to danceโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAh come ooooon! Ye donโ€™t wanta overheat do ya? Yeโ€™ll feel looooads better witha clunky thing off; dress for the occasion loves!โ€ Abby couldnโ€™t tell if the overly friendly redhead and his leering sidekicks were sophomores as well, but they definitely werenโ€™t Lottieโ€™s friends.

โ€œTake a hike ginger, theyโ€™re not interested.โ€ Abby muscled her way between them as she reached toward the bottle of Hennessy on the counter. It wasnโ€™t Jack Daniels, but it would do in a pinch.

โ€œOi! Tough girl! Thatโ€™s my stash there! Yeโ€™ve got to be showin a bit more skin โ€˜n that te be gettin anything for free!โ€ The leprechaun had the audacity to laugh, but it wasnโ€™t until he grabbed hold of her jacket collar as if to yank it down off her shoulder, that Abby snapped.

One second the ponce was upright by the bar, and a flash of red later he was a good ten feet away, flat on his back while cradling his broken bleeding nose. Abby was looming over him when sense returned, one foot resting on his crotch, which his howling suggested had already taken some abuse. โ€Touch me, or any other girl here again without permission, and next time Iโ€™ll kick them off.โ€ She ground her heel in again for good measure before glancing toward the miraculously intact bottle of whisky still in hand. โ€This is mine now.โ€

The crowd that had gathered to watch her pummel Lucky Charms parted like the red sea as she walked back toward Lottie, who looked like she was warring between relief and mortification.

โ€œOh um t-thanks Abby, but he didnโ€™t have to do that.โ€ She glanced nervously around Abbyโ€™s shoulder at Lucasโ€™s still prone figure. โ€Will he be alright?โ€

โ€I changed my mind, Iโ€™m taking one ball as insurance!โ€ Abby hollered back toward the crowd. Lucas was up and darting away in a flash, confirming his status as a son of Hermes. โ€Looks fine to me.โ€

Amelie did not wear neon. She didn't care if the theme was a rave, she was not wearing neon. Her pale blue top was more colour than she usually wore, and she wasn't going any further than that. She had, however, consented to have lines of neon glow paint streaked on her face, making sure she didn't stand out too much. To be perfectly honest, she hadn't even wanted to come out. But it was tradition, and it could be her last chance to go. But as she saw the lights glowing from a considerable distance away, something inside her twisted. Something about her felt like these garish colours and loud music didn't belong in such an open space. She could still go back, find somewhere to practice her archery before her big day... but she had promised people that she'd come along, so she swallowed that feeling and made her way to the party.

Amelie made a beeline for the bar as soon as she reached the main body of the party. Having already seen a streaker, Amelie was feeling decidedly too sober. She knew that, with the Agon ahead of her, getting drunk was out of the question. That said, getting tipsy wasn't. She spotted Maya in a light-up coconut bra and grass skirt, and smirked, heading towards her friend.

"I'm starting to feel a little over-dressed," she remarked lightly, leaning on the counter. "And definitely a little too sober. What would you recommend?" She asked. As she spoke she tucked one side of her hair behind her ear. She wore it up so much that having it down felt weird at times, and this was one of those times. But she knew she was going to have it up for the entirety of the Agon, so it only felt right to leave it down. She couldn't get the Agon off her mind. She liked her team and had faith in them, but it still wasn't something to be taken lightly.

Hale Kawikani bellowed with a hearty laugh as he raised his beer in a salute to drunken students racing to the party. He took a long drink from the bottle before his gaze settled on two familiar men sitting together near the lake. Hale was never one to really understand subtly or when it was clearly obvious that people wanted to be left alone and not bother by the boisterous surfer.

"What is with the long faces?" Hale said as he took a seat on the other side of Apollo. He knew his lucks was severely better sitting next to the God of light rather than the teacher of bourbon and bitchery. "It's a party after all. We should live in the present, not the past... Or future."

His gaze fell to the bottle of bourbon being shared between the two men. His brows rose and a wicked grin graced his lips. "Come on, let's make this night fun with a little party of our own." His large hand pointed at the booze in Lee's hand. "We all drink every time we see a student streaking. First one on the ground loses."

***

Sebastian lost track of how many women in the surrounding hoard was due to him or Wes. Most likely him. After all, he was the most attractive guy at this damned Academy. He made sure to wear an outfit that was still classy and well tailored, with enough color to pop just enough under the black lights. Although he was the most desirable, that wasn't to discredit his best friend. The man had a reputation that nearly rivaled his... nearly. He was certain some of the girls were there for him as well. He's known his fair share to appreciate the tall, dark and brooding type.

He made all the right moves. Smiling at the girl just when he could sense she desired it more. Giving another a sly wink before he took a sip of his whiskey. Then waiting until the opportune moment, to lean in and whisper in the naive blonde's ear. Sly words from a silver tongue with enough velvet seduction to make her shift where she stood, clenching her thighs. Hook. Line. Sinker.

Seb spared glances in Wes' direction every so often. His friend was usually up there with himself trying to catch what prey he could, something deep down wasn't the same, hasn't been for awhile. It was something only Seb could notice, not these air-headed women that created a barricade around them. The man didn't give himself away, it was his emotions. He might have been flirting, and making the moves but his heart wasn't in it.

Almost like a trigger deep in the pit of his stomach, something in Seb told him to look towards the entrance. It was a sensation all too similar to the one he felt coming from Wes. His gaze drifted in that direction only to find another blonde joining the party, nearly as repulsive as Abby... Lux. He was surprised she showed up actually looking like... well a woman.

Seb's right arm was hooked around the waist of the all too ready blonde, his left arm snaking its way around the shoulder's of a striking brunette to his left. "Doesn't my dear friend look absolutely dashing this evening?" he asked, pointing his left hand that held his drink and draped over her shoulder at Wes. "And you think he looks good now... Without a shirt," he pursed his lips, "I'd even fuck him." Seb's tactic might have been a little obvious, but anything to keep his friend's attention focused on the fruits ripe for the picking around them instead of a rotting one that just joined the party.

***

Lux juggled with the idea of going and not going for the better part of an hour. In the end, she realized this could very well be the last party she ever goes to. It's her last night before the Agon, and for all she knew, her last night of freedom. People have been known to die in the Agon after all and she was no exception.

She couldn't help but laugh at herself as she trudged through the grass towards the lake. Lux looked more feminine that she had in lord knows how long. Not like it was that crazy, but it was for her. She thought if she was going to go to a ridiculous rave party that she might as well dress the part. Maybe it'd be so out there for her, that she'd blend right in. As she slowly walked around the large body of water, she caught sight of her dad with one of her teachers. Just as she was about to look away, he raised his head and flashed her a smile that she returned. Hopefully she could make him proud in the coming days.

Lux had barely entered the damned party before someone's head felt the need to find her ass. Before his hand had even left her, her right hand reached back and grabbed hold of his thumb. In a swift move she jerked it back and spun around, jerking his arm up behind him until he fell to his knees. "Seriously? Did you even attempt to fucking look at who's ass you were smacking?" The drunken pervert jerked against her hold but failed. He reeked of booze and moved like a drunken idiot.

He just groaned and whined until he finally looked back over his shoulder to see who it was. "Oh my god... Lux?" She released her grip on him once he noticed. The boy scrambled to his feet. "I'm sorry I didn'tโ€”"

"Stop," she said holding up her hand. "Just get out of here." Lux waved him off, chuckling as she watched him quickly scurry off. Well... As best as he could drunk. Her gaze drifted across the crowds of people at the part, stopping momentarily when she saw the tuft of dark hair in a mob of dumb sluts. She rolled her eyes, sighing. Her face showed disgust and annoyance, but her gut turned in knots. Stop that, she thought to herself, as she walked over towards the far end of the bar.

"What can I getโ€”" the guy behind the bar started then stopped once he realized it was her. "Oh, Lux. You look... different."

Lux sighed, rolling her eyes. "No shit... Can I just have a water?"

"Of course, one wahโ€”wait, water? This is a party. The only thing clear you should be drinking is vodka."

"God dammit, Justin. Don't make me ask again." This time he didn't argue, quickly grabbing a cold bottle of water and handing it to her. She gave him a stiff smile with a nod of her head before untwisting the cap and taking a drink. After a moment or two, she sat down on the stool with her back against the bar watching everyone else mingle and carry on. No alcohol for her. She needed her mind clear, save the drinks for when they win.

Gods Joaquin hated parties... And crowds of people... And trying to seem social and normal. He thought about not going. Just spending the night in, getting all the extra reading in that he can. He spent the last months reading the case files of the previous Agons. If anything they just made him more nervous that he wasn't prepared for what was to come. It was the thought that five other people will be looking to him for direction. That's a lot of pressure.

He knew if he didn't go Greer or Eren... or one of the other extroverts that sort of adopted him would be knocking down his door and dragging him there by his ears. So instead of dealing with all that nonsense, he decided to go. Of course, he refused to dress in anything remotely favorable to black light. Sticking to dark colors was his best bet as staying fairly unnoticed. Maybe then he could just stick to the side lines with something nonalcoholic.

Joaquin rejoiced, internally of course, when he joined the party and went unnoticed. He wasn't a good dancer and definitely wasn't a drinker. The music choices weren't horrible, so that at least made the uncomfortable crowd of people in a small area more tolerable. He snaked his way through fist pumping topless men to drunk women who wanted to be topless as well. It just made him wish he might have worn another cardigan or something.

The heat so close to all the crowded bodies was oppressive but he wasn't in the mood to take off any of his layers, not yet. He didn't need some drunken person to be looking his way and find it as some sort of invitation. Somehow, Quin found his way to a sitting area, farthest away from the sound system. With a relieving sigh, he took a seat, crossing his right leg over his left as he observed the party. He understood a lot of them needed to let off steam before everything got all too serious tomorrow. He just hoped his teammates wouldn't be nursing hangovers.

"BABY I DON'T NEED DOLLAR BILLS TO HAVE FUN TONIGHT! I LOVE CHEAP THRILLS!"
The loud, and clearly off beat, singing was enough to drive Jace crazy. The pre-Agon bash was something every senior needed to experience so Jace couldn't refuse to come. He attended every previous one and it wasn't a party till the top troublemaker arrived. The event brought in plenty of students. Jace had to hold on tightly to his beer bottle if he didn't want to lose it. The theme this year was neon and the students definitely went all out. Almost everyone was painted in some whimsical design or wearing neon or light colored clothing; Jace was no exception. He wore a white shirt he wouldn't mind getting paint on and pair of black jeans, along with sturdy, black running shoes. Half of his face was decorated in curly lines, highlighting his blue eyes. Participation was his one award at every themed party. The decorations were mostly items painted in neon colors; the same for the dance floor and bars. Jace smiled as fireworks light up the dark sky, his own personal firework would be soon. He cashed in on a favor from one of the Hecate kids running the firework stand.

Jace took a sip of his beer, deep in thought. Don't get him wrong, Jace is a party animal. However on a night like tonight, he had more important tasks to do than get drunk at a party. Tomorrow is the big day. He has been training for this moment since he entered Legacy. Jace would get his wish or die trying, no other way. Nonetheless, Jace wouldn't let a good party go to waste. He'll go easy on the alcohol, but he was determined to have fun. A few of his buddies should be here tonight. Jace saw Ryan attempting to dance among the throngs of students. Ryan was one of the few nice guys at Legacy. He didn't know why they were friends, but the two worked well together. His dancing was a bit on embarrassing side, but it worked for him; his endearing, but awkward dance moves. If Ryan tries to get him to dance, Jace will be party stopper. Literally, the party will stop at his horrendous attempts at dancing. He scanned the party trying to find his fellow troublemaker, Ace. The two had already set up a prank for the naรฏve freshman who were so star struck by two seniors talking to them. He should be around here somewhere. Jace could hang out with his teammates... Vince is definitely here and Blake never misses a social event. Jace groaned remembering himself trying to convince his reserved, serious roommate and teammate to come tonight. He can remember everything.

"Jace, we should be training for Agon not partying."
Jace rolled his eyes at his troublesome roommate. How a troublemaker and the Captain America were put together; he'll never understand. Jace was checking his appearance in the mirror, brushing away one of his curls, while looking into Vince's eyes through the mirror.
"Exactly why we should party. Getting drunk off our asses and having fun is the perfect way to relax before the Hunger Games begin. Besides, I'm starting to believe you don't know what a party is."
The two were as different as night and day. They didn't get along, but they weren't enemies. Jace thought he was stuck up and uptight while Vince found him careless and disrespectful. However, the two worked well together.
"Let loose for once in your short ass life and have a fucking good time." Jace knew of Vince's dislike and disuse of cuss words which only made things more fun for Jace. "Show off your crazy awesome raps too. If you don't by the end of the night, I will embarrass both of us."

Jace smiled at the memory. He knew how to get under Vince's skin, not like it was difficult though. As he scanned the crowd, he made eye contact with an attractive, maybe junior, boy. His face was completely painted. Jace couldn't recognize him in the poor lighting, but he was attractive enough. Jace was never one to turn down a good time. He had a few sidepieces he could call up at any time, but he wasn't about to call someone when the music was loud he couldn't think. The junior approached him coyly. His attempt to be alluring was sweet and Jace always had a sweet tooth. When the two tried to converse, they laughed, not being able to hear each other. The younger boy motioned for Jace to follow him to opposite side of the lake, devoid of most party goers. Jace swaggered over to him, pleased he was lead somewhere private. The two reached the area before the boy changed in front of his eyes. The boy became a man; a man Jace never wanted to see. As Hermes stood in front of him smiling, Jace groaned. How could he be so stupid? He should've know better than to think a junior would approach him so confidently. Jace's eyes narrowed at his supposed father standing before him.
"What the hell do you want?
Hermes's face fell at his son's cold question.
"I'm here to wish my favorite son luck in the Agon tomorrow. I know you've been training hard."
Jace rolled his eyes. He didn't need this poor attempt at a heart to heart.
"Is that it?"
Hermes wasn't going to give up on his son easily. The two are still family whether Jace likes it or not.
"I was hoping we could talk."
"About what? How you almost sent me to jail or how all my relationships ended because of you? I can go on."
"First, you shouldn't have been stealing-"
"I'm the son of the god of thieves! What do you expect!"
"Jace, I am your father and-"
At that point, Jace couldn't control his rage. How can this god claim to have been a father! He started yelling, not able to stop himself.
"A FATHER? YOU NEVER WERE A FATHER TO ME! A FATHER DOESN'T TRY TO SEND HIS KID TO JAIL! A FATHER DOESN'T CAUSE EVERY PERSON HE EVER HAD FEELINGS FOR TO CHEAT ON OR HUMILATE HIM! A FATHER TAKES CARE OF HIS SON AND IS THERE! YOU WERE NEVER THERE FOR ME! YOU ARE NOT A FATHER!"
Jace tried to calm himself. He wasn't going to let the party shut down to listen to a father-son screaming fest.
"All you are is a fucking sperm donor to me. I would trade you for my human dad any day." Jace took a step closer to Hermes, his breathe hitting Hermes's face. "When I win the Agon, Zeus is going to make sure you never contact me again. You will be out of my life forever and then I will actually party. Stop trying to act like you're my parent. You will never be my father. Do you understand? I hate you. You mean nothing to me."
All of a sudden, a firework went off. The firework began to spell letters. A giant "FUCK YOU!' appeared in the sky. Jace's grin was hard to hide. Perfect Timing. Finding an opportunity to slip away, Jace left leaving Hermes shocked about the firework. He ignored his father's attempts to demand he come back. Jace was grateful for one thing Hermes gave him, his speed. He hurried back to the party, reconsidering his idea of not getting drunk tonight. He needed the hard stuff and a distraction too. Luck isn't usually on his side, but it was tonight. Blake was standing, drinking bourbon out of the bottle. Blake's beauty made her appear to be an angel and, right now, she was in Jace's eyes. He approached her, acting as if nothing was wrong. She smiled and winked at him as she passed the bottle. Jace took a long drink of the strong liquor. The burn felt amazing and he could feel his negative vibes melting away. He looked lazily at his favorite companion.
"I need you and this bourbon right now. Care to fool around?"

"Look, I'm just gonna put it out there... I'm-..." A hiccup tore through the drunk's frame, his slurred words stuttering on his tongue as the interruption caused his attention to temporarily drift, hazy eyes focusing on some spot behind Greer's shoulder before returning to her breasts. Only after a pointed cough did the demigod raise his gaze to the blonde's face, sloppy smile grinning wider as he swayed closer. "We're, like, a good pair. Compati-... compatible I mean."

"Mmhmm." Greer hummed in agreement, humouring her peer as he sloshed back another sip of his alcohol. She bit back a grin and leaned in, her own half-empty drink clutched in her hand. "You know, I find that all the guys I'm truly compatible with have a really spontaneous side."

"Oh yeah! That's me. Mr Spontaneity." The son of Zeus slurred his words so much that Greer almost missed them, but she'd been around enough drunks before to translate slurring into relatively sober-talk. Or, as near sober as she could be after a drink and a half of whatever was on tap.

Raising her brows questioningly, Greer faked scepticism, "I'm not sure..."

"No, Greer, trust me, I'm-..." -hiccup- "...-super in the moment. Watch me."

Greer fought and lost a battle to restrain her laugh, the sound erupting from her lips as the demigod proceeded to prove his spontaneity by wiggling his arms around in what some might consider a dance. He looked more like a bloated, dying jellyfish.

"Well... " Greer cleared her throat, leaning in closer as her plot reached climax, "That's not much proof, but you could... She paused for effect.

"I could what?"

"No, nothing, it's stupid. You wouldn't do it."

"I would!"

"Are you sure?"

"Try me babe."

With a faux-casual shrug, Greer relented. "How about you streak? Liven the party up a bit?"

The son of Zeus was out of his clothes in no time, stumbling slightly as he cheered into the deafening party music, chugging the rest of his drink and throwing the plastic cup over his head. Greer, keeping her gaze on his face, laughed loudly as he threw off his last item of clothing before proceeding to start his lap through the party. His naked state caused more than a few concerned students to jump out of his way, and Greer thought Ellis Buckley might pass-out with disgust when the naked demigod almost fell straight into him.

Shaking her head, the daughter of Hera left her friend's clothes piled where they fell, sure that some son of Hermes with enough initiative would know what to do with the clothing. Instead, Greer headed towards one of the bars, needing to refill her emptying cup. She didn't plan on getting drunk tonight, not when she needed her head working for the Agon, but a little liquid warmth never hurt. She was just in time to see Abby Jarvis providing her own sort of entertainment for the party, which took the form of her beating him a particularly irritating redhead.

"You sure know how to liven up a party." Greer grinned as she came up beside the daughter of Ares. She nodded a greeting at the other girls, not really knowing Lottie or her friends all that well. "Do you think if I asked nicely you'd knock-out some other idiots too?"

She was teasing of course, but as she went to add in a comment stating as much Greer heard a shout of the music that belonged to the son of Zeus she'd just convinced to streak, "My clothes! Where are my clothes?!"

Ellis was here, alone. He didn't know what was worse, that he was actually here at the party, or that he was alone. Being here, at the party meant that he was suddenly surrounded by numerous people he disliked and deliberately tried to avoid during school. Being here alone meant that he had no one to handle conversation when he himself didn't want to. Of course, being alone meant that he was able to slink back into the shadows whenever he wanted, unobserved by the majority of the drinking and dancing neon-clad revellers.

The quiet son of Hades planned on doing just that - the slinking into the shadows, not joining the neon revellers - but just as his eyes were searching for an appropriately dark corner to hide in, a rather loud, inebriated and naked son of Zeus hollered something into the air, almost tripped on his own feet, and half fell into the much smaller, and much more sober Ellis.

"SORRY KID!" The streaker apologised, slurring in Ellis' ear as he used Ellis to steady himself. As soon as he had his feet, the nude demigod let out another loud shout of energy - almost deafening Ellis in the process - and proceeded to run off again. Ellis stood stock still for a while, his face red, his body itching with the need to clean himself now.

Suppressing a shudder and avoiding the eyes of anyone who had seen the incident, Ellis quickly made an escape for the nearest corner, breathing a sigh of relief as he wrapped the silky shadows around his shoulders. Of course, given all the neon lights washing over the party, it was hard to maintain the shadows, which only made Ellis frown more as his eyes scanned the party for the girl who had forced him into coming in the first place.

"I swear, if Aya isn't here soon I'm leaving." Ellis muttered to himself, stepping back and out of the way of a pair of inebriated twin daughters of Poseidon.

He went stumbling back again as the dancing crowd pushed towards him, and quickly Ellis decided that his position wasn't safe. He edged his way around the crowd until finding himself at a collection of seats. Joaquin Wolf sat at one, looking like he was enjoying the party as much as Ellis was.

"Do you mind?" He asked, nodding to the seat beside Joaquin, speaking louder than normal so that he be heard over the thudding music. Digging his hands into his pockets, he waited for a sign before sitting, gaze flicking around the party as he bit his lip, wondering if he was now expected to talk to the other demigod or if it would be fine to just sit in silence. Ellis wasn't the best at small talk, preferring silences, but he also hated parties and yet here he was.

"So, ah... how are you?" Well, that was eloquent.

"Hundreds of drunk, horny teenagers in the same place? I feel a great disturbance in the force as if millions of unplanned parenthoods cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

Strobe lighting, fireworks that would turn even the most grizzled of pyrotechnicians green with envy and bad music coupled with even worse pick up lines then one can shake a stick at described the night perfectly. Well, and the smell. Nothing like the stench of spilled alcohol, sweat and the faintest aroma of vomit that always seemed to linger just on the edge of the senses to really bring it all home. The amount of time, effort and imagination that went into the Pre-Agon bash was almost inspiring, as was the numerous Agon dumpster babies that would surely follow, and it only served as a reminder that in the effort to get drunk and possibly laid was all the inspiration any teenager needed to strive for greatness... Or something like that.

None of that mattered to Ryan though. He was here to do what he did best, have fun and try not to think of his very, very likely impeding doom in the coming Agon. Nothing killed the mood to laugh, drink and attempt to score with various women, and fail gloriously, then the idea that, out of everyone attempting the Agon, he was the least qualified member to probably ever have attempted it. But none of that mattered at this moment in time, all that mattered was the dance 'floor' and there were four kinds of dancers showing off their talents: the true dancers who moved in rhythm and with practice, the grinders who didn't dance so much as dry hump their hormones out, the jumpers who had no idea how to dance but were just happy to be there... then there was Ryan who managed to both jump, hop, wiggle and shake all at once to what he happily referred to as his 'standing seizure'.

It didn't matter that his now slightly damp hair slapped his face every time he jumped or twisted too fast, or that a small bead of sweat rolled down his spine hidden from view by his beautiful plain gray t-shirt. It didn't matter if some people had managed to make a few feet of space around him, it didn't matter if people kept giving him odd looks or laughing at him because he was having an utter blast. Ryan came to a stumbling halt when his eyes laid upon a wonderful sight, a rather charming brunette with very charming [ass]ets[/i] that had her hands in her hair sending it flying around as she shook her thighs to an internal beat only she heard. Throwing on his game face, and smoothing out his thrice-cursed eyebrows with his fingers, he moved in for the 'kill'.

"Yo!" Ryan yelled over the noise, his shoulders rolling back and forth a half-second behind the beat, "Ryan! You?"

Without a beat, the pretty brunette shouted back, "Triss!"

Ryan furrowed his brows, "What!?"

"Triss!" Triss repeated again, cupping her mouth for good measure.

"What!?" Ryan yelled again as he leaned forward and motioned her to come closer.

Taking the bait, Triss leaned close to him, merely inches away thanks to Ryan's coaxing, but before she could say a word, Ryan backed up and held his hands in the air in mock surrender, "Whoa! Triss, if you wanted to dance you just had to ask. Jez, I know I'm handsome but buy me dinner first!" He finished flashing her his patented third deadliest smile.

Realization dawned in her eyes just as a large smile slipped its way across her face and it took every fiber of Ryan's being to not shout, 'Score!' for finally that line had worked... or kinda worked.. maybe? Ryan kept the smile as he zig and zagged his torse back and forth and grew giddy like a child on Christmas morning when she followed suit and copied his archaic dance.

They made no attempt at talking because in this noise, why bother? Ryan closed the distance between them even more and leaned down to speak in her ear, "Do you want a drink?"

When she nodded, Ryan felt something almost akin to triumph rise in his chest, "I'll be back," Ryan said and fought his way through the crowd, before coming to an awful sight. Two people very, very into a very passionate, almost too passionate, session of grinding. Without a word, Ryan started jumping, waving his hands in the air next to his head and started side skirting between them, "Excuse me!" He said cheerily, breaking them apart and passing through.. before stopping and coming back through, "Sorry again, forgot something!"

On cue, when they started to come back together, Ryan went through a final time, "Never mind! I have it," As he went through, he felt something hard pressing against his backside, "Whoa! First stop: Bone Town! Amirite?"

His words died when the small woman's face was very red, and her fist looked very large, "Or, you know, I could be wrong," Ryan said as he beat a hasty retreat tactical withdrawal.

After four grueling minutes of fighting his way through the crowd, he made it to the bar, "Hey! I'll take two.. uh.. those ones?" Ryan said point to two random bottles of whatever was in there. He wasn't exactly a connoisseur of liquor more of what they call a 'unpicky mooch'.

Bottles in hand, Ryan turned around to find his lovely brunette, a Ms. Triss, grinding with another man.. who was then pushed away by a very, very large and angry fellow and even from here Ryan had a feeling that Triss may have kinda-sort-totally forgot she had a boyfriend. A big one. With muscles. Who could break faces. Ryan faces. He had dodged a bullet as he didn't need a genius to tell him what was going to happen to that other guy's face... it was in for a long night of rearranging.

Just as Ryan shivered at the imagined pain, a body flew right past him. Ryan had to look twice, but yes, it was a body.

Ryan followed the trail of empty space back to the source, Abby. Of all the people here that guy had picked a fight with Abby? Ms. Will-Tie-Your-Dick-Into-A-Animal-Balloon Abby? Ryan wasn't sure what just happened, he waited for the obligatory 'You Got Knocked The Fuck Out!' comment but it never came and Ryan saw why.

Among her bag of tricks, playing Moses was one of them, although he had to say Abby was certainly a much better looking Moses, not that he would ever tell her that... and it also wasn't a very high bar to get over.

Before Ryan could say anything, Abby mentioned something about his jewels and with a surprising spring in his step, considering he had just been punted across the ground, he took off in a blur.

Distraction gone, Ryan looked down at the two drinks in his hands, to the brunette being dragged off the 'dance' floor by her very upset boyfriend to Abby, "Typical. Just.. Just typical," Ryan finished with a defeated sigh.

Blake was having an awesome time at the Agon party! She had arrived and was already out on the dance floor. She had two guys, one in front of her and the other behind her, grinding on her. What? A girl can have a little fun. She didn't even have to manipulate them! Being Aphrodite's daughter is great! She felt a tap on her shoulder to see a red faced girl in front of her. The guy in front of her stopped, face going white. Blake sighed. Must be the girlfriend. She knew he, Leo she thinks, was seeing someone, but he approached her first. If he wanted to be a bad boyfriend, Blake might as well enjoy it. The girl balled her first, eyes narrowing at her boyfriend's hands on Blake's hips. She could feel a fight brewing and Blake spent too much time on her makeup to have it ruined by some girl who couldn't hold onto her man. Blake smiled at the girl, locking eyes with her. Blake watched as her angry expression softened. The young girl's irises began to get bigger, her mouth parted. She was too precious. Blake couldn't resist kissing her on the cheek. The girl gasped, clenching her thighs. Someone is getting help at home. Blake thought as she caressed the girl's cheek. She had the girl take her place between the two guys. She obviously needed the release.

Blake left the dancefloor, looking for alcohol. She took it from an, already, drunk freshman, not bothering to acknowledge her. The tournament tomorrow was enough of a reason to get drunk tonight. She knew what happened at the Agon. People would die and she hoped her team wasn't one of them. She was confident in their abilities, but she didn't know if she could trust some of them. Jace was the only person she could. Since attending, the two have been private friends, appearing as frenemies in the public's eyes. Inside, the two were best friends, plus a few benefits ;) Jace was the only one who knew of her secret. He never laughed or made fun of her for it. If anything, he respected her for it. His obvious dislike of playing into their parent's plans brought the two closer. Speak of the devil! She handed the bottle of bourbon to him, smiling as he chugged the liquid. Something must have happened. Blake could read Jace like a book and he hated it.
"I need you and this bourbon right now. Care to fool around?"
"Daddy issues, Sherlock?"
She saw the junior Jace had led away and didn't come back with. His father tended to use the same tactic to talk to his boy. He glared her, taking another long gulp.
"Do you want to screw around or not? I'll find Ayden if you're not."
Damn he's really pissed tonight. Jace knew bringing up Ayden annoyed her. Like her, he was one of Jace's benefits relationships. She didn't care much for sharing, but it's hard to share something you don't own. Blake pouted, crossing her arms around her chest.
"Dance with me and I'll do whatever you want."
Jace knew her boundaries and she knew his. Dancing was something she loved and he despised. Blake wasn't going to leave without a dance with her favorite guy. We might not get another chance.
"Fuck this shit."
The speedster ran off, away from Blake. She was pissed. Why do the people you care about always make you feel like trash? Jace is her best friend. Someone she lov- cares for. She needed a distraction anyone!

Godly Parent: Ares || Dialogue: #3D5726

Lights were flashing everywhere, fireworks were exploding in the background, and some naked dude just ran across the field. This party is fucking awesome.

Ace loved parties, they provided him with entertainment and relieved him of his boredom for a time. So at the moment, Ace was feeling pretty good. He wasn't dressed as wildly as some of the other students at Legacy academy as he preferred comfort over fashion, but he did have bright neon green paint designs on his white v-neck. However, no one would be painting his face tonight, unless of course they wanted a few broken teeth. As the beer began to make Ace feel antsy, he actually wished someone would do it just so he would have an excuse to start a fight. Ace watched as a son of Hermes rolled on the ground in pain, holding his nose, and realized his sister had beat him to it. He laughed to himself as the crowd scrambled to get out of her way as she walked over to some girl that he didn't recognize. Ace wasn't exactly friends with Abby, but he had to admit that she was a badass.

Already bored again, Ace scanned the room for his buddy Jace. They had set up a prank for a couple of freshman earlier and Ace knew that Jace would be up for any of his wild ideas. He spotted him storming off through the crowd, and leaving a very pissed looking Blake behind. Well, hanging out with Jace tonight is out of the question then. Ace sighed and slid out of his chair. Looks like he's going to have to go find entertainment for himself.

Sitting far away from the sound system was Joaquin, the leader of Ace's Agon team. He was blending in so well with the crowd that Ace barely even saw him. Personally, Ace thought the guy was pretty boring, but he was smart as hell so he made for a pretty good leader he supposed. He definitely wasn't someone Ace wanted to have a conversation with though. Ace was searching for a different teammate, little miss short and sassy. He was looking forward to bantering with Mj, but he was disappointed when he couldn't find her among all the people.

Ace was just about to start purposely pissing people off when a flash of light caught his attention. A light up coconut bra, how fun. His stare slowly went up from the girl's chest to her face and Ace was pleased to find that the girl was Maya. She was one of the few people that put up with his sporadic personality and they had formed a friendship of some sort despite their many differences. He rushed towards the tiki bar she was at and slid right in front of her. Flashing her a mischievous smile that showed off his dimples, Ace leaned towards her so she would be able to hear him over the music. "Nice bra."

Mari loved parties. Especially demigod parties. You could count on all of the talents, all mashed together to create a damn good jam. She found herself comfortable within the writhing mass of sweaty kids, probably doing the things their parent's have nightmares about. Even with her small stature it's not hard to notice the wild child of Demeter bopping along amiss the crowd. From her elegant, yet risquรฉ dancing to the flowers that bloomed at her feet with every step she took. She couldn't help it, her control almost gets lost when she dances. It's certainly a strange sight. She couldn't count the mass of boys and girls that found themselves promptly trying to butt their way into her jam session, least to say none of them were successful. Most of them made it out with an eye roll but other's weren't so lucky.

After a while of dancing she couldn't help but feel a bit lonely. Normally she was surrounded by her friends, but Mari had gotten to the party quite early, and hadn't seen anyone she knew fairly well yet. The task of leaving the dance circle is a lot harder than it looks, but it wasn't too much of a problem for her. "Excuse me! Fuck out of my way please, thank you" She got a few annoyed glances here and there but there wasn't anything more relieving than escaping the circle.

Her eyes scanned the crowd of demigods some of them she knew. She saw Jace and Blake arguing, Quin near the edge by Ellis, and finally her eyes landed on a dazed Ryan holding two drinks standing next to the notorious, Abby Jarvis. She weaved her way over to Ryan snatching one of the drinks out of his hand and downing it in a matter of seconds. "Thank you, it's hot as hell in that dance circle" she commented placing the empty cup back in his hands and giving him an impish smile. It didn't take much inference from the second drink and disappointed look in his eyes to know what happened. "It's always 'the one that got away' from you isn't it, Ryan you really got to step up your fucking game". She gave him a glance over and raised a curt eyebrow, "Need a wing man?

Ben hated parties. Especially demigod parties. He would even be here if it hadn't been for Aya begging him to attend. Not only was he completely awkward around people in general, but parties were practically hell. He'd rather die in Agon than be in this gods-forsaken hole of intoxicated and horny demigods. Thankfully, it didn't take long to escape his half-sister's clutches when she became distracted in the entertainment, and he soon found himself near the edge of the chaos. Unfortunately, there were still a few party goers scattered around, the majority of them students making out in the darker corners. He tapped his finger nervously against his thigh in an attempt to calm his nerves, which were going a mile a minute. He hadn't been to a party in, well never.

His eyes scanned the vast field of demigods seeing a couple he knew but, being sociable wasn't exactly his favorite thing. His best bet was to escape entirely but Aya would've been unbelievably pissed at him which is something he did not want to see. After minutes of wandering around he happened upon, a bench, vacant bench. Thank you Hecate. Ben wasn't entirely sure if the blessing had been his mothers, but better safe than sorry.

To pass the time he aimlessly tapped his fingers on the bench, watching the demigods have fun. It wasn't that he was disgusted at the 'idea' of fun, rather that his definition meant writing or being by himself. However, he would do anything to make his sister happy, which involved brainstorming some miraculous story of his 'great night' at the party when she eventually found him. She'd definitely see right through his faรงade but maybe his attempt at trying would be good enough for her.

His mind eventually wandered toward thoughts of Agon. Tomorrow. He had no idea how he landed himself on a team, but he wouldn't question it. This was the one thing that he actually felt, well okay about. Of course there were the definitive ideas of 'certain death' but the idea of Agon seemed enticing to Ben.

Intimate moments are delicate things, hard to maintain and easily broken with the wrong kind of pressure. That was doubly true when one of the participants in question was emotionally handicapped. Not that Apollo minded or anything; that was just part of Leeโ€™s charm, but it was difficult sometimes when it always felt like he was pulling away.

โ€œDo you think theyโ€™re ready?โ€ It was a question asked out of love, not lack of confidence, but even Lee could pick up the note of anxiety that lay within. The god of light, and music, and bedroom eyes was also a father, and a pretty damn good one as far as the gods went. Lee had lost friends, peers, and students to the Agon, but Apollo had lost children. Perhaps Lee wasnโ€™t the only one in need of comfort tonight. His grip on the godโ€™s hand tightened just a fraction, his thumb tracing circles along his skin as Lee watched Apollo flash a smile at someone from across the field.

โ€œNo oneโ€™s ever ready.โ€ Lee admitted with another drag from the bottle. โ€œBut theyโ€™re strong, and they picked their friends wisely.โ€ Sometimes thatโ€™s all anyone could rely on. Apollo has two daughters in the fray this year, and Lee knew both of them well. Lux was far more combatively competent than her sister, but Maya was no one to underestimate either. It also helped that theyโ€™d both been smart enough to align themselves onto some of the stronger looking teams this year. Lee couldnโ€™t make promises theyโ€™d survive this, but he felt the odds were in their favor.

โ€œWhy do you go along with it?โ€ Lee asked impulsively. It was something heโ€™d never understood about the god who seemed content to masquerade as a human and steered clear of the politics in Olympia. Why support the Agon, the source of so much heartache for both of them, if he didnโ€™t involve himself in the power plays that was its primary function.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the alternative, open war?โ€ Apollo ran a hand through golden locks, the exhaustion of his tone suggesting heโ€™d agonized over the issue quite a bit. โ€œIโ€™ve seen what that looks like, the death that sows. At least now they have a choiceโ€ฆsome semblance of a childhood.โ€ He seemed less convinced by the last part, but Lee didnโ€™t comment, instead passing him the bourbon. It took a lot more than a bottle of Kentuckyโ€™s finest to get a god tipsy, but Lee figured heโ€™d appreciate the gesture.

Their fingers lingered together on the bottle, and Apollo looked up as if to say something, or maybe something elseโ€ฆ "What is with the long faces?" And just like that, the moment shattered. Lee scowled, cheeks flaming, as the perpetually oblivious son of Ares invited himself to join. Hale was a decent enough sort, but his timing fucking sucked. Lee continued to silently fume as Apollo simply laughed along, shifting much more effortlessly out of the heavier mood of their private exchange far more easily.

โ€œWell, looks like bottoms up.โ€ Apollo agreed as he pointed out a student in neon paint running round the field. If the amount of bending over and hunching was any indication, his state of dress wasnโ€™t entirely willing. โ€œDo you drink twice if theyโ€™ve been duped?โ€ He asked with an arched brow. If Lee didnโ€™t know better, it might even have looked innocent.

Wes had been nursing the same glass of scotch for the better part of an hour. As heโ€™d never been one given to the loss of control inherent to drunken revelry, that wasnโ€™t necessarily odd, especially with the Agon starting tomorrow. Considering his role was as chief strategist for the team, one might even call his moderation prudent. What was odd however, was his lack of killer focus. Women had always been drawn to Wes, or his wealth and position at least, and that effect was quantified exponentially in the presence of his best friend Sebastian. On a normal night, he would have already sequestered one of the girls vying for his attentions for the evening. The game he played was a delicate one; women were just as competitive as men, and winning was an intoxicating aphrodisiac. Theyโ€™d play along for a time, but the kind of women he attracted didnโ€™t share. If he didnโ€™t give one their metaphorical tiara soon, the game would be a bust, no one leaving happy.

He just couldnโ€™t make himself care, and that in itself was frustrating. Not having absolute control over his own emotions grated, and while logically Wes could identify the source of this change, he refused to acknowledge it to himself. And then, as if the mere whisper of a thought had summoned her, Lux was there, wearing the most ridiculously fetching getup he was almost embarrassed to admit he found appealing. His eyes chased her all the way to the bar with a look that smoldered like heated coals just waiting for tinder to ignite. He was so caught up, that he almost missed Sebโ€™s remarks entirely.

โ€œAh, and with charm like that, how would I ever say no?โ€ Wes tossed back as a playful smirk listed his lips. If the suddenly flushed cheeks were anything to go by, it was a proposition many of the girls here found appealing. Wes could practically see the wheels of fantasy turning in their heads as the imagined all the wicked things they might do to each other, and anyone lucky enough to be brought along for the ride. It was an amusing role to play to, and one Wes might have easily slipped into for an evening of meaningless funโ€ฆif not for those fucking heart framed nipples.

Calden Archer was naked from the waist up, more than happy to let his six pack speak for itself. His chest was mostly bare, with the exception of the pink glow paint hearts someone had drawn around his well-defined man-nips. His white swag cap was on backwards, glowing against the black light in a fashion that was hard to miss. Ordinarily, the cocky son of Zeus deciding to dress like a 90โ€™s fuck-boy wasnโ€™t Wesleyโ€™s concernโ€ฆbut he had just swaggered up to Lux with drinks in hand and a twisted half smile that any man with an ounce of testosterone could read the intent from. Something in Wes snapped.

โ€œSlaaade!โ€ Calden cheered as he swaggered up to Lux, tilted grin plastered across his face. โ€œYou went all fucking out girl! Nice aliensโ€ฆare they down for some probing?โ€ Cal knew Lux fairly well considering they were in the same class and combative groups, but it was the first time heโ€™s ever seen her dress to impress with the assets, and it was a look he could dig.

โ€œTheyโ€™re occupied.โ€ Wesley Tate practically growled from behind Lux out of nowhere. It was the kind of stealth Cal would normally find disturbing, not that he would admit to it, but was perfectly content to blame the alcohol on that one.

โ€œI think itโ€™s up to them whether or not to make first contact rich boy.โ€ Cal smirked back, unperturbed as he took another swig from his beer in hand. Whatever Cal had expected Wes to respond with that stare and small delayed smile wasnโ€™t it. He might have to watch his back tomorrowโ€ฆ

Maya still hadnโ€™t quite forgiven Helen and the others on the party commission for going with the retro rave theme over the far more appropriate spring break beach getaway (They had a lake right there for godsโ€™ sake!) one sheโ€™d spent the better part of a year planning out. She had to admit though, that it was going well, but she still maintained her tropical slice of the party, especially in the middle of so much neon crazy, was the best part. Besides, she sure as hades wasnโ€™t wasting this outfit after all the time sheโ€™d spent putting it together. The pineapple passion fruit concoction Maya had been sipping on was a bit strong, but there was just enough sweetness counteracting the bite to leave a myriad of flavors playing across her tongue.

"I'm starting to feel a little over-dressed." Her beautiful friend Amelie came up from behind, and Maya gave her an appreciative once over as she asked for a drink recommendation.

โ€œThatโ€ฆdepends on how wild a night youโ€™re in for.โ€ Maya replied with a wink. โ€œWeโ€™ve got Corona with lime stocked as lighter fare, but if youโ€™re feeling more adventurousโ€ฆโ€ Maya grabbed one of the boozy tropical fruit smoothies sheโ€™d been enjoying herself, and handed it over to Amelie.

The timing of the hand off couldnโ€™t have been better, because in a flash the open space between them was filled with Ace, dimples and all. Maya couldnโ€™t help the smile that erupted across her face at Aceโ€™s sly remark, and she wiggle her eye brows a bit as she inspected his own outfit for the evening. Far from the wildest outfit sheโ€™d seen this evening, but it screamed Ace, and she liked it on him.

โ€œNice paint.โ€ Maya threw back with a wink. โ€œIs it still wet?โ€ She asked innocently enough, but an impish look twinkled in her eyes.

โ€œRightโ€ฆโ€ Lottie agreed skeptically as her eyes followed Lucasโ€™ retreating form, and then nearly jumped when she turned back to see one of the schoolโ€™s more notorious children of Hera suddenly next to Abby. Lottie had nothing against Greer of course, but there was something about the sight of those two powder kegs together that set her nerves on edge.

โ€œLike you need my help with that.โ€ Abby smirked at her friendโ€™s offer. They both knew Greer was perfectly capable of kicking any necessary asses on her own. Present company excluded, Abby had yet to see Greer in a fight she couldnโ€™t handle, and her skirmishes made for damn good entertainment as well. โ€œI might need help with this though.โ€ Abby held up the bottle of whiskey, looking a little too pleased. โ€œIf you care to join.โ€

โ€œOh hey, Marisole!โ€ Lottie called out suddenly, interrupting Abbyโ€™s thought, and drawing her eyes about ten feet off where her excited teammate (and her friends who were also apparently children of Demeter) had run off to greet her sister. Marisole Nadeau had earned something of a reputation at Legacy as a breaker of stereotypes. While it was true that some children of Demeter displayed more passive natures, many resented that trope, and the assumption of weakness that went with it. Especially for some of the younger Demeter students at Legacy, Marisole had become a role model, so Lottieโ€™s excitement didnโ€™t surprise Abby. Seeing her with Ryan Grayson was a different story.

Before she really had time to think about it, Abby had followed Lottie and her friends over to the makeshift group, Greer presumably behind her. โ€œAre you excited about tomorrow? I mean, Iโ€™m kind of nervous, but a good nervous you know? Well, unless you donโ€™t get nervousโ€ฆโ€™cause well I mean, why would you?โ€ Lottie babbled like an excited puppy, laughing off her obvious nerves.

โ€œNot that I donโ€™t feel safe or anything!โ€ Lottieโ€™s eyes suddenly shot toward Abby almost in apology, before continuing to put her foot in her mouth. โ€œOur teamโ€™s great! Wes is scary smart, Abby and Lux kick butt, and Seb is soโ€ฆโ€ She flushed, clearing her suddenly dry throat like sheโ€™d disclosed too much, before her eyes landed on the untouched cup in Ryanโ€™s seemingly outstretched hand.

โ€œOh thanks!โ€ Lottie accepted the drink, grateful for the distraction from her own babbling as she proceeded to gulp down its contents. Abby snorted, unable to hide her smile as she watched Ryanโ€™s drink being jacked, and waited for his inevitable look of indignation.

โ€œNot your night?โ€ Abby drawled in what for her passed as a conversational tone. Ryan was Luxโ€™s friend, so theyโ€™d spent enough time around each other to pick up on the otherโ€™s mannerisms. Things had a habit of both going terribly wrong, yet strangely alright for Ryan, which if nothing else, was entertaining to watch from afar. And maybe she enjoyed poking his buttons a littleโ€ฆ

Lee looked like he was ready to jump down Hale's throat, but the lumbering Hawaiian wasn't scared of anything, let alone a literature teacher... Not after his own Agon. Hale felt like he could take on the world. At least Apollo seemed to be in more agreeable of a mood versus his not so happy companion.

โ€œWell, looks like bottoms up,โ€ Apollo said turning his gaze towards the first naked camper. Hale laughed, taking a hold of the bourbon. He took a deep swig then passed it off to the God. โ€œDo you drink twice if theyโ€™ve been duped?โ€

Hale laughed, patting Lee on the back. "I could handle it... but I have a significant amount of bulk compared to little Lee here. We'd put him under the table in less than an hour."

***

โ€œAh, and with charm like that, how would I ever say no?โ€ Wes replied with a playful smirk. They made quite the pair. Set out in the world together that could soak all the panties with a single wink. They were dangerous, in the most innocent way. Well... As innocent as possible for the inseparable friends. Although innocent wasn't on the menu right now. Seb could feel the stirring from the blonde and brunette under each arm. Yeah, they'd love to join him and Wes for a tumble in the sheets. But who wouldn't?

"But is not such a weak man to succumb to me. If he had," Seb playfully squeezed the girls, leaning his head towards the blonde. "I'm afraid there would be a lot of heartbroken ladies out there. After all, I'm all that Wes would ever need." He flashed a wince and teasing grin towards his friend, before raising his glass towards him.

But when his gaze shifted to his friend, all he saw was Wes' back as he walked away from him. Seb didn't have to be psychic to know where the man was heading. He didn't swerve to deviate, instead making a bee line right for the ill tempered blonde. He tried to not let his face show the growing discomfort and mixed feelings that over came him.

Seb wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was losing his friend. Slowly, one day at a time. Wes was the only person he ever could rely on. Their mind set was so similar. They were upper class, elite, ladies men. But now his friend's heart is being drawn in a deplorable direction. The polar opposite of himself, and it made Seb sick.

"Dance with us Seb," the brunette said, taking his left hand in hers, tugging it towards the dance floor. It didn't take long for the girls to lose interest in the vanishing Wes.

Seb smiled as he let the girl lead him towards the swarm of people. His right arm wrapped around the blonde's waist, guiding her along with them. "And what shall we do for the rest of the evening?... The night is young." Both girls giggled sheepishly. They took him out into the throng of people, one of them on either side of him. His arms rested on their hips as grinded against him, running there hands along his chest.

Lux froze with the bottle of water pressed to her lips when she saw a pair of obnoxiously painted nipples bouncing in her direction. They were disgustingly hypnotizing surrounded in the neon pink paint. Most girls probably swooned at the sight while she had to keep her gag reflex in check. She assumed he was going to the bar, but that was quickly proven wrong when he didn't deviate around her but stopped right before her.

โ€œSlaaade!โ€ Oh, dear lord. Lux rolled her eyes, taking a long drink of her water. Cal calling out towards her was not on her list of events for the evening. She's known him for awhile and not once had he approached her with a grin like that... Or two drinks. โ€œYou went all fucking out girl! Nice aliensโ€ฆare they down for some probing?โ€ She nearly choked on her water as it went down. Thank God it wasn't alcohol.

โ€œTheyโ€™re occupied,โ€ a voice growled from behind her. Lux nearly fell off the stool at the surprise of who's voice was the one to chime in. She reached her hand back to brace herself against the bar but instead met Wes' torso. She briefly glanced back over her shoulder at him, but he wasn't looking at her, just staring daggers at Cal. She couldn't help but be flattered by the gesture. She fought the urge to smile as butterflies fluttered in her stomach. But they quickly went away when Cal was still lingering and opened his mouth.

โ€œI think itโ€™s up to them whether or not to make first contact rich boy.โ€

Lux shot up from where she sat, quickly spinning to face Wes. She pressed her hands against his chest stopping him before he could do anything rash. She looked back at Cal, pointing her right hand in the other direction. "Go... Or I'll let him kill you before the Agon." She kept her gaze locked on the drunken flirt until he left. Lux then looked back to Wes, laughing nervously as she took a step back, dropping her hands from his torso. "I do know how to take care of myself you know... But thanks." She flashed a brief smile in his direction then diverted her gaze.

After a moment or two of silence, Lux looked over at the glass in his hand. She tapped the brim with her index finger. "Hope you're only having one. I don't need another thing to worry about during the Agon." When she realized how that sounded, she quickly continued on. "Because you know... I don't need to do my job and your job." That was true in part. But a drunken teammate is more likely to die, that's what would really worry her. She didn't need her judgement overly clouded, trying to protect him instead of doing her job.

Lux looked him over then drank up the last bit of her water. "Well Mr. Knight-in-shining-armor, I'm going to go dance. If I'm going to die in the Agon, might as well make my last normal night exciting." She shrugged her shoulders. "I'd ask you to dance, butโ€”" She brushed her hands along the shoulders of his suit jacket. I wouldn't want you to wrinkle your jacket, or ruin your reputation by dancing with someone like me." Lux gave his chest a soft pat with a smile then turned towards the dance floor.

***

Joaquin watched the party, unamused. He could understand why everyone else needed it but he saw no purpose. How many of them would be at peak performance tomorrow? A party is understandable. But the night before? He just hoped that his teammates had their wits about them tomorrow. He was not in the mood to deal with a gaggle of drunks.

"Do you mind?" The voice took him by surprise. He looked in the direction of where it came, expecting someone to be talking... Well, to anyone but him. But, found Ellis standing before him. Joaquin put his hands on the armrest, nearly standing just to offer him a seat. He stopped himself before he did though. It was old fashion and awkward. So, instead he nodded his head in agreement motioning to the seat beside him.

Joaquin wasn't the best at reading people. He was actually horrible. He sat there, glancing between his newly arrived company and the dance floor. He should talk. That's what most friends do. Ellis was a kind person, never pressured him into an awkward friendship or conversation. He was the only real friend he had that just let Joaquin be... Joaquin.

"So, ah... how are you?"

That caught him by surprise, again. Joaquin looked over at him. "...Wish I would've brought my headphones." He gave a slight smile, recounting how they became friends awhile back. Those would have been nice, could have blocked out all the noise. He tapped his fingers on the armrest of the chair, chewing at his lip, thinking of something to say.

"Are you ready?... For tomorrow?"

"If you swing at every ball that comes over the plate you have to eventually hit one... Right? Right guys?... Guys?"

Ryan was far too busy contemplating the vast mysteries of life and all the secrets in the universe... or something like that, to notice Marisole burst through the crowd and come at him which was an impressive feat because Marisole was Marisole. Not exactly a meek person one overlooks or someone that didn't draw the eye when she entered a room something many sons and daughters of Aphrodite have noticed... much to her annoyance. He didn't know she was there until suddenly his right hand felt strangely empty.

He flicked his eyes down to his hand at it, still cupping the now non-existent cup as if it was still there waiting to be given to a girl Ryan had hoped to bag and not in the hands of a girl he couldn't bag, "You're welcome," Ryan replied on instinct as he blinked a few times to try and bring himself to his senses. Help?

"Psh, come on MJ, its all part of the long con," Ryan said, "Gotta get rejected, then, when I get that 'Oh, he is so damaged and lonely', vibe, I strike! Won't even know what hit them, its all part of.." His voice died off as he couldn't keep the joke up with a straight face anymore.

"Sweet baby Jesus, I need help MJ, I don't even know what I am doing most of the time, you know? Like..." Ryan paused trying to find a way to describe it as his now free hand rotated in circles, a fitting replacement for the small hamster running its little heart out, on its wheel, in his head trying to get out his thoughts in a semi-comprehensible way, "I just... do," Ryan said slowly, rolling the word around in his mouth as despite the efforts of the brave little hamster, he still couldn't find the right way to phrase his 'Ryaniness'.

Before Ryan could continue to explain his utter lack of skill and, overall, pathetic nature and beg her for her invaluable advice and assistance, when Lottie burst in talking to Marisole and just like that his potential wingman just went up in poof. More surprising was the arrival of Abby. Sure, he knew she was nearby, but he didn't expect her to come over to him, well, follow Lottie over to him.. semantics.

Ryan blinked as Lottie snapped the drink from his hand, his drink, and downed it in one go just as Marisole had done so moments before. It took a few moments for his mind to process what had just happened, his left hand opened and closed a few times as if trying to conjure the cup back to it from thin air. D-Did that just happen? Again? And why did they both chug it? There had to be a mouth joke in there somewhere. 'Putting those big mouths to use?', no, that didn't sound right. 'Glad you can hold your breath?'... No... 'Man, you can take some liquids to the mouth'... That.. That didn't work either.

He was knocked out of his internal search for the right thing to say, and it was too late to say something even if he had thought of it, by Abby, "What? How could it not be my night?" Ryan asked giving her a non-committal shrug, "I am surrounded by two uninterested beautiful women and an Abby, when I can't seem to 'woo' even the drunkest of women at this place. Totes amazing, if it gets any more amazing I'll have Blake calling me to talk about her feelings and boy troubles."

'Man, you two can swallow..' Damn, that would have been good.

Amelie raised her eyebrows at the drink that Maya handed her. She had definitely been looking for something stronger than a Corona, and whatever concoction is was, it looked like it was laced with alcohol, and that was exactly what she was after. However, when Ace appeared, she sighed and took her drink. Ace was far from the worst person in the school, but she didn't plan on sticking around. "I'll see you later, Maya. Thanks for the alcohol!" She called lightly, taking a sip from her drink and grinning. It was as strong as she had both expected and hoped.

She scanned the crowd, looking for someone familiar to talk to. She spotted Blake, and something inside her twisted. She was attracted to all of the sons and daughters of Aphrodite, even that asshole Sebastian. But there was something different about Blake. She was the one person who made Amelie feel like she did. But Amelie just... couldn't. She didn't know if her feelings were her own or just another part of Blake's abilities. God, of all people, why did she have to fall for a daughter of Aphrodite?

Amelie straightened up, fixed a smile on her face, and sauntered over to Blake. If there was any chance she could die in the next few days, she was going to make the most of whatever time she had.

"You're not causing too much trouble, are you? We really shouldn't leave you unattended. You might break one too many hearts," Amelie said lightly, taking a sip out of her drink. "I think I need to be your chaperone. Keep an eye on you," she added. "You wouldn't mind that, would you?" She asked teasingly.

Blake was done. The party was going so well until Jace had to ruin her mood. She hated how much control he had over her, despite having a similar power over him. The two of them had been together since freshman year and now things have odd since they signed up for the Agon Together. She's always known his wish is for the gods and his father to get out of his life, but he wants the demigods too, that includes Blake. He'd leave her just like that? She would lose him as a friend or anything more if they won. She was almost tempted to throw it, but she knew it would be another reminder that she's only beautiful, nothing more. Blake wouldn't allow that.

Blake shook her head. Tonight is about fun. That Joker isn't going to ruin my good time. Her first plan was to find someone fun and maybe find some alcohol. The gods must be on her side tonight when Amelie Clark approached her. Amelie wasn't one for parties, Blake knew that. She was Artemis's daughter, enjoying the woods more than a social event. Honestly, Blake expected to have to drag Amelie here herself. It wasn't like Blake could blame her. She, too, loved being outside. The two liked each other, worked well together. Blake's eyes widened as she took in her friend's appearance. Amelie never wore bright colors so seeing her in a light blue top and neon lines on her face was surprising. Her hair was down too, she rarely wore it down. Amelie looked very attractive. Blake was very happy to see her friend in something more dressy.

"You're not causing too much trouble, are you? We really shouldn't leave you unattended. You might break one too many hearts."
"Apparently, I'm not the only one." Blake got closer to her friend. Blake and personal space are not well acquainted. "Look at you, looking amazing tonight. I might have some competition." Blake touched her hair. She didn't expect it to be so soft and thick. Amelie was full of surprises tonight. Blake took a strand of her archer friend's hair, tickling her nose with it playfully. Amelie looked so precious, almost embarrassed. Blake snatched the drink out of her, taking a gulp. Not very strong, but tasty.
"I think I need to be your chaperone. Keep an eye on you," Amelie added. "You wouldn't mind that, would you?" she asked teasingly.
"You can stay with me all night. One rule: You have to dance with me. Let's see those moves, Lee."
Blake grabbed her hand before Amelie could protest. Blake wasn't the smartest, but she could sense the tease in Amelie's words. If she was going to play, Blake wouldn't say no.

Godly Parent: Ares || Dialogue: #3D5726

Ace raised his brows at Maya's comment, a smile still covering his face. She was playful tonight, that was for sure. Of course, this didn't surprise him as Maya is always playful and bright like the sun. Ace didn't really know why he got along so well with Maya as they are total opposites. Maya was friendly and calm where Ace was aggressive and about as calm as a hungry lion. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that they balanced each other out.

Maya was the calm to Ace's storm and that could very well be the reason why he had always seen her as a friend. However, Maya is friends with pretty much everybody due to her laid-back demeanor and that might mean that she is only friends with him because she feels obligated to be.

Ace finds it difficult to trust her sometimes because of this and is wary about becoming close to her, but for now, he just wants to have fun. Fun without any more alcohol as Ace wants to be focused during the Agon tomorrow. Plus, alcohol makes Ace feel energized and god knows that he doesn't need anything to help him in that department. Even now, he was rocking back and forth from his heels to his toes as he talked to Maya. Ace may be reckless, but he wants to win and he needs to be focused to do that.

The impish look in Maya's eyes made Ace laugh. "You like it?" He playfully tugged on one of her curls. "I'm sorry to let you know that it's all dry now, nothing a little fresh paint can't fix though." He winked at her like she had done to him and leaned in to ask her a question. "Dance with me?"

He moved away from her and began dancing backwards into the dance crowd while keeping his eyes locked with Maya's. Ace wasn't the best dancer, but he knew a few moves. He had just started doing the moonwalk and pulled his eyes from Maya's for a brief second only to see Marisole talking to Ryan. His eyes lit up at the sight of Marisole, but seeing Ryan beside her made Ace roll his eyes. Ace didn't hate the guy or anything, he just found him to be so damn annoying. Always talking and saying stupid things that Ace could really give two shits about. Even thinking about Ryan was giving Ace a headache. As for Marisole, Ace would talk to her later. Right now, his attention was on Maya.

Why couldn't Blake simply respond yes or no? She knew he didn't like dancing and that he was pissed so why couldn't she just answer normally. Jace knew she would be anger at him tomorrow. The two of them haven been close for a long time, becoming even closer when they agreed on their friends with benefits situation. Blake began to act weird when they signed up for the Agon. They agreed they'd be on a Agon Team together since sophomore year. Maybe she's worried about tomorrow. I'm such a jerk. Jace has claimed to be an asshole on most occasions, but that doesn't mean he's heartless. He'll apologize to Blake tonight. Jace found her leading Amelie to the dance floor. Blake's been dying to dance. I'll talk to her later. They're kind of cute together. Jace didn't mind if Blake flirted or did anything with other people. The two of them were just friends in Jace's mind. The self proclaimed Sherlock Holmes wasn't as good as he thought when it came to Blake or any one interested in him unless it was obvious.

Jace still has the bourbon with him as he took a drink. Right now, he wanted nothing more than to sit and drink. He'd prefer to be alone, but at a party like this that just wasn't possible. He scanned the crowd, hoping to find a drinking buddy. He noticed Ace trying to get Maya to dance with him. The sight would be great to watch! Jace found a seat, but it was occupied by someone. The guy was one of Hecate's kids, but he couldn't remember what his name was. He was dressed to theme, but not enough to stand out. Was he the kid everyone thought was a serial killer? His name started with a b... What is his name? Jace began to study bench boy, deducing him like his idol would. The tapping of his fingers on the bench was likely a sign the boy was bored or trying to distract himself. Maybe, he's thinking about something else. If he had friends, he'd most likely be with them. The boy was watching the crowd, not looking for anyone, so he must either be a loner or came here by himself. No alcohol so mostly likely not a drinker or didn't feel like it. The guy was good looking, but not in a eye catching way; more like painting, the longer you stare the better it looks. The alcohol coursing through his body was enough liquid courage for Jace. So what if the stranger might be a serial killer?

"Hey B-Be-Bu... Okay, I don't know your name. I'm Jace. Can I sit down?" Jace didn't wait for a reply he sat down. Jace took another drink of the bourbon. He was tipsy, not drunk. "So did your friends ditch you or are you here by yourself? I'm guessing loner. Who are you?" Jace was out of it, asking and saying whatever his brain conjured up. He held out the bourbon to what's his name. "Bottoms up, B, or whatever your name starts with. By the way, I don't think you're a serial killer, but who knows what could happen tonight."

As Blake dragged Amelie to the dancefloor, Amelie managed to down the rest of her drink and abandon the glass on a random table. She could just about deal with Blake sober, but if dancing was involved, she was definitely going to need copious amounts of alcohol. She looked around at the others dancing and was completely and utterly overwhelmed. They either seemed to be incredible dancers or just grinding. Amelie wasn't sure she could deal with either of those options.

But, it seemed that the Fates themselves aligned in her favour. The alcohol kicked in just as a song she actually liked came on, so she grabbed Blake's other hands and started to dance with her. She just kept telling herself over and over again that this might just be the last chance she ever got, that she could be dead or seriously injured in a few days.

Amelie had done dance in her early childhood, just like every other girl her age. She actually wasn't half bad at it, either. But with being shunted around from foster home to foster home, she'd eventually stopped asking for classes. And it was a shame. Her increased physical ability meant she was light on her feet, and her sense of rhythm wasn't terrible. Had she had more classes, she probably could have become pretty good. But instead, she was a "not bad" dancer in a crowd of excellent and terrible. The alcohol in her own system reminded her that everybody was probably too drunk to remember or care.

When the song ended, Amelie laughed. "So, was that enough of a display for you? Do you want to see more, or should we go get drunk?" She asked, having to shout over the music despite how close she was to Blake.

"Why aren't you at the party, Little one?" The voice startled Layla into dropping her sword. It clattered to the training floor with a sound that echoed loudly. Layla took a breath as she kneeled down and grabbed the blade, her hands were shaking from overwork."Mother, please don't do that," She said softly. "I appreciate your work ethic, Layla, but if you'll burn yourself out if you continue at this rate." Athena told her, her voice echoing in her mind like the sword's clatter did the room. Layla was used to it though, it had been there her entire life, for the longest though, she thought it was her own voice, an inner voice, or a conscious like Jiminy Cricket, but it had turned out to be her mother, a goddess. Layla wasn't sure about how she truly felt about being left with the family that she was left with, considering that bickered like school children, but her home wasn't a bad one, at least not directly related to her, they loved her for all their faults, but still. They're constant bickering nearly killed her and while she never thought about leaving them for fear that she was the only thing keeping from killing each other, knowing that she had another option, a whole world she didn't know about, she didn't really give it a second thought but that presented new challenges, she wasn't the only one, and she had to be the best of her kind. She still wasn't sure about what this truly was about, beyond Godly pride, which it was most definitely, but there was something else at play here, that the Gods weren't telling them, but her mother seemed to care, since she'd been there her whole life, a face in the crowd, a voice in her head, keeping her safe, from a distance. So she couldn't complain too much. Some of these demi-gods had it much worse.

"Mother," Layla said, unafraid of talking to herself since she was alone in the training hall, what with the school at this party. "Why now?" She asked. Athena was characteristically quiet. "You only chose to make your present known to me, but a year ago, is it truly because of the accident or...is there more?"

"There is more." Athena said. "However, the accident proved motivation, for the both of us." She said and Layla nodded. Her mother never lied to her, not once, but that didn't make her feel better. "You wouldn't have shown yourself to me, otherwise, would you have?" She asked and after a long pause, Athena sighed, which was a strange sound in her head. "Suffice it to say, Little One, I was in a place of indecision, now I am not." She said and Layla nodded. "That's how I feel about this party," Layla said not wanting to think about what would have happened had she not been in the accident. And to think she thought that day was the worst of her lief...now she wasn't so sure. Was it bad luck, or providence?. "Why's that?" Athena asked. "We are expected to party like Dionysius, and then proceed to fight one another, and for what? Your favor, but why do you need to do this for your favor, donโ€™t we already have it?"[/olor] Layla said and Athena chuckled. "You have mine, but this is tradition, moreover, there is the 'more' I referred to, and not so many of the Gods appreciate their children like I do." [/i] She said and Layla nodded, she could hear the smile in her voice. "That's not for you to worry about now, Little one, clean yourself up, dress nicely, and enjoy this time you have as normal teenagers." She said and Layla sighed. That was all she was going to get from that conversation. [color=#054357]"Yes, Mother," She said and with that, she did as she was told, and got cleaned up, and dressed in a lovely little black dress, that hugged her Olympian curves. She had no idea what she was doing here to be entirely honest, parties weren't her scene at all, she didn't listen to this type of music, nor did she appreciate the way that strobe lights and fog laid waste to her vision. She smiled as she entered though. She had to be a normal teenager, that's what her mother wanted, for one night that she was not a demi-goddess, fighting for the right to be beside her mother, but a teenager invited to an unsanctioned, unofficial party for school. "What am I doing here?" She asked herself as she skimmed the crowd for a familiar face.

Vince would've gladly gone anywhere else, but a party. He would spend time in the underworld with Hades if it meant not coming here! Now, Vince didn't mind parties like these; they just weren't his scene. He preferred to get together with friends versus a wild, drunk party with strangers. Jace was the reason he was here at all and dressed like this. The resident troublemaker insisted he go have 'fun' instead of training tomorrow. Unlike Jace, Vince was fighting for something in Agon tomorrow. He wasn't hoping to get back at his godly parent like most children here did. Despite the fireworks going off in the sky, stars could still be seen. Vince smiled, sadly at them. He wondered if Addison was looking at the same stars. Was she okay? He hadn't visited her in a while. Their visits were fun, but Addison was growing up, questioning the strangeness of their secret meetings. Addison didn't have to be a child of a god to be intelligent. She was growing into a beautiful, little girl with a mischievous yet wise smile. Vince sighed. I'm sorry, baby sister.

Jace had ditched him the first chance he got. Trouble attracts trouble, I guess. Vince thought as he watched Jace disappear with Ace. The party looked like a blast, but Vince wasn't one to dance by himself, or grind on a stranger. Alcohol wasn't an option either. His father always warned him of the dangers of underage drinking. The last thing Vince needed was unexpected hookup, or pregnancy, or to do something he would regret. Vince would've spent time with Blake if she wasn't occupied, but her argument with Jace and dancing with Amelie made the giant stay away. The drama with Jace and Blake was known well by Vince. Being Jace's roommate meant knowing if he hooked up with anyone. He tended to bring his conquests home and Blake was there often. Vince couldn't understand why Blake would settle for Jace. He doesn't treat her well and has other partners. Vince wouldn't treat any girl like that. Well, he didn't have any offers so he couldn't treat anyone like that. Speaking of girls, he noticed Layla appeared at the party. His eyes felt like they growing as he took in Layla's appearance. She looks... wow. Vince usually isn't brain dead, but seeing Layla dressed up is a rare occurrence. Vince dropped his gaze when she noticed his staring, rubbing the back of his neck trying to hide his embarrassment. Layla tends to dress more tomboy so seeing her was like a splash of cold water. Vince needed to be cool, suave too. Dang, this is Jace's department. Vince took a deep breathe, praying to any deity that he didn't humiliate himself. As Vince approached her, the song playing suddenly made sense.

Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at you

"Hey Layla. I'm glad to see you made it. C-Can I can get you something to drink?"

Well, he started off strong.

Whatever the half-naked son of Zeus saw in Wesleyโ€™s eyes, it was enough to make him take Luxโ€™s advice to leave, but not without first extending the bird as his charming parting gift. Wes trailed Cal with his eyes until he was finally out of sight, his grim smile finally composing itself into something passingly close to friendly when they returned to Lux.

โ€œThat was never in question.โ€
Wes assured simply, leaving his meaning ambiguous whether he meant her ability to take care of herself, or his number of drinks. It applied to both regardless. Lux was capable of handling one drunken idiot, but that wasnโ€™t the fucking point. Logic hadnโ€™t been running the show during his pissing contest with Calden, as much as that pained Wes to admit to himself. The thing that hovered in the air between them was unspoken and fragile, but it was his. Wes usually thought of himself as above alpha male dominance displays, but there were some things instinctively even he succumbed to.

Lux could give him a run for his money in the manipulation department, and Wes knew he was being baited by her subtle challenge to walk away. He took it anyway, along with her hand as he followed her toward the dance floor. โ€œI think you saw to that quite a while ago. No point in fretting now.โ€

Why the disco ball chose to make an appearance that moment was suspicious timing. Totoโ€™s Africa chiming in to accompany it was even more so. Experimentally, Wes slid his hands down to rest on her hips, tastefully of course (for now), as other coupled paired off for the slow song. He raised a brow almost in challenge, waiting for her to circle her arms around his neck, or start clobbering him.

It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you!
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do!
I bless the rains down in Africa!
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had!

***

โ€œRats, my devious plot has been foiled! Looks like your face is safeโ€”for now!โ€ Maya laughed as Ace pulled her toward the dance floor. What was a little covert face painting between friends? It was probably for the best though, and for now she was happy enough to watch him do his best impersonation of Michael Jackson. With the disco ball out, and retro music playing, it seemed especially appropriate. Maya twirled along, more than happy to see the playful Ace out in force tonight. His eyes wandered for a moment, and Maya followed them to Marisole. An uncomfortable warmth bloomed in her chest for a moment before Maya squashed it back. Instead of dwelling on the unpleasant feeling, she grabbed Aceโ€™s hand and twirled them deeper into the dancing throng while showing off a few of her disco moves.

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive!

It was during the chorus line of the Bee Geeโ€™s classic that the telltale pickling sensation behind her eyes started. Now?! Why the hell was she having one now?! โ€œAce-!โ€ That was the only warning she got out before any feeling of normal consciousness fled.

Instead of a crowded makeshift dance floor, Maya was in a narrow stone corridor. It was dimly lit and oddly enough, she could still hear the music echoing eerily off the walls. Disoriented, Maya felt her way across the hall toward open door that was her only source of light. An iron tang tinged the air, and Maya pulled her hands back when they touched something slick. As she got closer to the light, the source of the stomach turning scent became obvious. Every surface in the room was painted with blood, as if some kind of macabre artist had worked with gore instead of oils. On the table however, was a marble bust of her father, remarkably clear but for the long train of blood coming from his eyesโ€ฆ

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah, I'm stayin' alive!

Maya snapped back to reality harshly, kneeling on the floor. โ€œAir!โ€ Maya begged weakly, still feeling too frail to pull herself to her feet.

Iโ€™m pretty sure I was just insulted. Abby thought dryly, brow raised as Ryan continued to lament his lack of game. โ€œWell with confidence like that, how are you not beating them off with sticks?โ€ It was a glib remark, but it came out more cutting than sheโ€™d intended. Ryan wasnโ€™t her friend exactly, but he was a decent enough sort when he wasnโ€™t whining.

โ€œHere.โ€ Abby extended the bottle to Ryanโ€™s hands. โ€œYouโ€™re going to need some liquid courage if you plan on making a pass on Blake.โ€ To say he didnโ€™t have a shot in Tartarus was to state the obvious, but after watching both his drinks nabbed from under his nose, Abby was feeling generous.

โ€œPssht bit strong for you Grayson, you might hurt yourself! I figured wine coolers were more your speed.โ€ From whatever hole Calden Archer crawled his way out of, Abby didnโ€™t notice, but she wished heโ€™d just leave them the fuck alone. Instead, he made a grab for the bottle, and Abby slapped his hand away. The look Cal shot back at her was murderous.

โ€œYou always have girls fight your battles for you Grayson?โ€ He sneered Ryanโ€™s way. โ€œYour usual blonde bodyguard isnโ€™t around, so you crawl behind another?โ€ Cal took an intruding step forward, as if to emphasize the point, and Abby shoulder her way in front of Ryan.

โ€œIf your dickโ€™s feeling especially small tonight Cal, I suggest you go pick on someone that you can actually get away with. Unless of course you want me to beat your face in publicallyโ€ฆagain.โ€ Abby added with an extra dose of acid. Calden could be a real bully sometimes, which was enough to piss her off without throwing in his personal vendetta. Some people just canโ€™t handle losing, and Abby had defended her undefeated record in the ring for three years straight. Calden had been her looming shadow of menace ever since, and it had begun to spill over to those she associated with.

Sensing the rising tension Lottie fretted beside them, her attention finally drawn away from her semi-famous sister. โ€œMaybe we should all just take a beatโ€ฆitโ€™s a party!โ€ Her laugh was as forced as the smile Lottie plastered across her face in an attempt to stop the fight before it really began.

#054357, Interacting with: Vince Darling

As Layla looked around, she noticed someone approach her from the side. She turned to see the gentle giant, Vince Darling, looking oddly nervous. She smiled at him. She'd always been fond of Vince, or rather, fond might not be the appropriate term but she was a bit nervous about what it really was. They could very well be on the opposite side of the Games tomorrow,
Hey Layla. I'm glad to see you made it. C-Can I can get you something to drink?" He said and she blushed. She wished she hadn't, but the catch in his throat made her stomach do a little dance. "Sure," She said as she tugged on the hem of her dress, which seemed to be the thing that caught his attention. This was not her typical attire, she dressed practically, knowing they had physical training, as well as other academic studies, dressing in a dress or a skirt seemed a bit moot. Why get all dolled up if you're only going to sweat out your hair in PT, or stress sweat right through your pretty dress?
Now, however, seemed the appropriate time, and it seemed to work in a way her mother seemed to think it would.
"Do not fear the future, Little one, enjoy the present." Her mother whispered to her mind, startling her a bit. Layla swallowed. "Talk to him, Her mother urged and she looked up at the tall man. "So, Vince?" She began. "Are you enjoying yourself?" She asked, in a sad attempt to break the ice. She had no idea if he liked parties or not, she didn't, but her mother insisted, and one couldn't exactly disobey a Goddess, especially if said Goddess was her mother. It was at the moment that she could hear Abby giving Calden what for, and she shook her head. She is the child of Ares after all, such violence and anger was to be expected. Layla was never one to say she didn't like someone but Abby wasn't her favorite person in the world, she didn't appreciate Layla's attempts at assistance, called her a know it all, and things of that nature, while she does it for attention Layla does it to help. You can't win 'em all, she supposed. She turned her attention away from Abby and whatever that fight was about and noticed Maya having some sort of fit in the middle of the dance floor, She called out for someone as Layla stepped forward to help but she stopped herself this wasn't for her to do, she wasn't a child of Hermes, she had no natural abilities that could help with this, if anything she could talk to her about the fits, and what they might mean but that wasn't it, for now, she swallowed. Her gift was what caused her to be slightly distracted now, she could see everyone's problems, but her gift of gab wasn't going to stop a fight, not with Abby anyway, nor would it help Maya, especially now that the fight was over. "You hear the world's suffering, Little One, it is hard but drown it out, for now, enjoy your night, you've gentleman caller waiting on you now." her mother advised and inwardly nodded and turned her attention back to Vince.

Wes watched Cal as he backed away, and then watched him more until he was clear out of sight. His grim and somewhat intense smile shifted to something that could almost pass as friendly. โ€œThat was never in question.โ€

Of course, Lux wasn't sure if he meant the drinks or her being able to handle herself with Cal. She figured it was the second. She always knew Wes to be protective, but until recently that didn't include her. So, seeing him step up in something so... minor was interesting. Flattering, but interesting. Even if he wouldn't admit it, that reassured her on questions she dare not ask.

Surprisingly, Wes didn't hesitate at her not-so-subtle manipulation into getting him to dance. But more than that, he took her hand as she lead him to the dance floor. โ€œI think you saw to that quite a while ago. No point in fretting now.โ€ Was he talking about her ruining his reputation or his jacket? Most likely his reputation. Lux didn't know if she should be flattered that he didn't care what people thought about seeing them together or if she should be insulted that he just admitted that she ruined his reputation.

When they got to the center of the dance floor, Lux and Wes were nearly shoved chest to chest. When Africa started playing, Lux couldn't help but chuckle. "Can't believe they're actually playing good music," she said more to herself than him. It seemed almost like too much of a coincidence that a slow song started when they moved onto the dance floor... That and the disco ball. Her gaze drifted up to the mirror ball wondering what smart ass Aphrodite kid was probably behind this.

Lux felt the air sucked from her chest when she felt Wes' hands slip down her her hips. Her body stiffened and froze at the touch as her gaze shifted up to his. She never quite realized how tall he was, or how short she was until that moment. Of course, they never stood this close until that moment. He raised his brow like a silent challenge, questioning if she'd allow the dance. Any other guy would be greeted with her knee in their dick and her elbow in their nose. But with Wes, she hesitantly let her hands move to rest on the peaks of his shoulders.

It seemed as the song went on, her hands subconsciously snaked their way up around his shoulders. Her delicate fingers slipping through the hair at the base of his skull. When the more upbeat tempo of the chorus played, Lux playfully moved her shoulders in beat with the song while lip syncing along. "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you. It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you..." As the realize of the scary reality of the lyrics hit Lux, her cheeks quickly flushed and eyes widened. She nuzzled her face into his shoulder to hide her blushing face him, her arms wrapping around his shoulders.

As the song came to an end, Lux parted her lips about to say something, but when she looked up she was met by Sebastian's judgmental gaze. She stiffened, taking a step back from Wes, allowing her hands to slip from his shoulders.

"Lux, is that you?" Seb asked. As if he didn't know? A dumb looking blonde clung to the tailored prick's right arm and an equally as loose brunette stood behind him with her arms around his waist and chin on his shoulder. "She actually looks like a female," he said as he patted Wes' back looking her up and down.

"I swear... If you weren't on my Agon, team I'd fucking wipe the floor with your smug face," she said while crossing her arms and taking a challenging step towards him.

"Ah," he said, motioning his free hand towards her. "There she is." He smirked while his two companions giggled and shared whispers. Derogatory, of course. They better pray they don't cross Lux during the Agon tomorrow... Her foot would be so far up their asses they could taste the leather. "Well you've made your point and had your moment at the top. Better get back to your kind in the gutter... Trash."

Lux found herself at a loss for words, her mouth agape. Her chest began to heave as she stared between Sebastian and Wes, trying to catch her breath. "Go fuck yourself." She shoved herself past Sebastian, unable to bring herself to meet Wes' gaze. If his looks matched that of his best friend, she wouldn't be able to stomach it. Lux knew Wes was out of her league by a mile, but she was dumb to think it was anything more than a dumb jest between friends.

She pushed and shoved her way through the crowd, knocking over the occasional dancer until she was free. But she didn't stop, bee-lining for the exit. Once the fresh air hit her, Lux inhaled a sharp breath, clutching at her sides. She could feel tears trying to fight their way out, in part from anger... But also, not. Her right hand pinched the bridge of her nose as she paced by the lake. Trash?... Trash.

"Could you dears be ever so sweet, and get my friend and I here two scotches on the rocks?" Sebastian asked the girls with a sly smirk and a kiss on the cheek. They both nodded their heads giggling, before scurrying off to the bar. When they looked over their shoulders towards him, he gave them a quick wink.

But as if flipping a switch, he took a step towards Wes, tightly gripping his shoulder. "What in the fuck are you doing?!" he hissed. As he kept strong eye contact with his friend, he focused his attention to the hand on Wes. He let emotion pour from him and into his friend. Not feelings of love, but subtle... very, very subtle sensations of distaste. "You could have any girl here... And I mean any and you dance with her!?"

Sebastian put his right hand on his hip while his left reached up under his glasses, rubbing his eyes. "You're Upper East Side... And she is scum on the bottom of my shoe." He slicked back his hair then adjusted his cuffs. "I can understand pretending to flirt with her for the sake of winning the Agon. Seduce the girl, she protects you, which makes her fight harder... But end this charade, Wes."

His smile returned when the girls came back with their drinks. Seb took the glass from the blonde, draping his left arm over her shoulders while taking a drink. The brunette quickly clung to Wes' side, holding out the glass for him. "Forget Slade," he said while holding up his glass to make a toast. "She's making you soft and clouding your judgement. Why have one girl, when you can have them all?" He smirked, motioning to women before them.

Ellis disappeared as quickly as he appeared, leaving Joaquin to fend for himself yet again during the party. God did he hate parties. But from what he could tell, it didn't seem like it'd last much longer. Or maybe he could sneak out without any of the people who begged him to come, notice. He sat there through at least five songs, bouncing a foot to the beat and tapping his finger on the armrest of the chair.

Joaquin finally decided to stand, walking to the bar to get a drink. Non-alcoholic, of course. His head had to be clear if he were to try and lead his team to victory in the Agon. He took the water and a seat on a stool, turning to face the rest of the party. As he was taking a drink he looked up just in time to see Maya collapse on the ground. She wasn't his best friend or anything, but she was on his team. He knew her capabilities and was instantly worried.

Ace was there with her, but Joaquin paid little mind to the that as he hopped to his feet and snaked his way through the crowd to her. He shared a glance with Ace, hoping that he wasn't upset at Joaquin's intrusion. "Hey," he held out the water towards her and lightly placed the back of his hand to her forehead. He looked up at Ace as he took Maya's left arm and draped it over his shoulders. "Help me get her some fresh air?" he asked.

After all, they were all on the same team. Joaquin hoped Ace would be helpful and at least a little worried about getting their other team member back to normal. "Come on, it'll be alright." He reassured Maya as he helped her through the crowd. Once they were outside, he helped her to sit in the grass a decent distance from the party. He held out the water to her, "Drink. You need to stay hydrated." He took a deep breath and sat down on the ground beside her. "What was it? He looked her over. Joaquin had seen her have a vision on a couple occasions during practice. He knew it when he saw it, and this was it.

"You know that feeling you get when shit is about to go down? You know, that weird almost nauseous feeling in your stomach? Your hands get all clammy and suddenly there is that slight itch to the back of your throat?... Just me? I call it my 'Ryan Sense', you know, like Spider-Man only not as cool or useful. Story of my life, really."

"What? Insulted? Please, as if I were brave enough to insult you," Ryan said offering up a dopey half-smile and a non-committal shrug. It was rather true, there were four groups of people in his world: Women, to be flirted with constantly, Men, to befriend, Friends, to hangout with and Enemies, to flee in terror from. Abby was an existence that was outside of those four groups and he wasn't sure what to call her, and he never let himself really think about her or any feelings regarding her enough to try and sort it out. The status quo worked well enough for what it was and it was better to not poke the angry bear that was Abby... even if it could be fun.

"Hey, I'll have you know I just can't find a big enough stick..." Ryan said then paused as he realized that sounded like his own 'stick' was rather underwhelming, "Wait that didn't come out right," he said as his mind worked to untangle the slip on the tongue, "I mean, you know, I have a big enough stick just I can't.. you know.. something... with the.. thing," Ryan said, his hand opening and closing in front of his mouth trying to draw out the sentence that would make it all make sense... somehow, but was saved when the bottle of amber liquid was thrust at him.

Ryan stared at it for a few moments, his eyes blinked in surprise a few times before his hand instinctively wrapped around the bottle. Abby was being nice? To him? Sure she was never mean, but never nice either. Sure the remark about Blake stung but it wasn't inaccurate and compared to what her sharp tongue could have said, it was just a wrist slap. "I..." Ryan began as his shocked mind tried to catch up with his mouth, it was oddly touching and he had no idea what to do. Part of him wanted to thank her, another part wanted to ask if she was dying and trying to earn some points with the big man, or people, upstairs before she kicked the bucket.

Luckily, he was saved from himself when someone else showed up to the 'party' and Ryan perked up immediately, "Oh! Wine coolers! I like the grape ones, orange is meh, did you bring some?" Ryan paused in the middle of his ramble, "Right, insult. I'm not manly. Gotcha. Clever. You're an asshole. Up to speed. Carry on."

Calden was so quick that Ryan didn't notice his hand shoot for him until Abby slapped it down. It took his mind a few moments to process that as well and he was starting to feel rather stupid now. The look he sent Abby was damn near enough to make Ryan dive behind the counter and start crying for batman Lux, seriously, where was the hero when the sidekick was in trouble? There was a reason sidekicks tended to not get their own comics. Oh, shit, he had better not be a Jason Todd.

He didn't mind being insulted, but a slight to Lux was another matter. Ryan lifted his finger to make a rather cutting, well he thought so, comment when Calden stepped closer, and Ryan also took a step back already prepared to preform Operation: CryLikeABitchTillLuxComes as he dived behind the bar but Abby blocked him off... again. Was... Was she really dying or something?

"Yeah! What she said!" Ryan said from over Abby's head suddenly feeling way more confident now that the murdermachine that was Abby was in front of him, beat the hell out of a bar, and seemed more then willing to throw down with the over sized roided out gorilla.

Lottie tried to do what Lottie do and calm them down, but Ryan wasn't sure that was going to work. Pride tended to make roided out gorillas dumber then usual which should be impossible but when there was a will there was a way.

Godly Parent: Ares || Dialogue: #3D5726

Maya grabbed Aceโ€™s hand and dragged him deeper into the dance crowd as the loud music and chatter filled the air around them. Ace lost himself in the music, drowning out everything, but him and Maya. He watched as she twirled and twirled, her smile shining like the sun.
It wasn't often that Ace had this feeling of happiness. Normally, he only concerned himself with evading boredom, but where Maya was concerned, he found himself wanting more. These feelings made him feel uncomfortable and Ace typically avoided them, but tonight he gave into them, relishing in his time with her. After all, the Agon was tomorrow, and death was always a possible outcome.
ย
Stayin alive by the Bee Gees came on and Ace almost laughed out loud. The song choice was pretty ironic considering that tomorrow, that is exactly what they would be trying to do. When the song reached the chorus, Ace heard Maya call out to him. The panicked edge to her voice startled him and the next thing he knew, she was collapsing to the floor. Instinctively, Ace tried to catch her, but even with his fast reflexes, he only managed to keep her from slamming to the ground. Ace cursed himself for not being fast enough because even though he has lessened her fall, she would probably still be sore from the impact.
ย
Ace didnโ€™t have much time to be confused about her condition because within seconds, she was conscious again, kneeling on the ground, and begging for air. Ace had just opened his mouth to speak to her, when Joaquin came over. At first Ace was pissed that Joaquin had intruded, but he clenched his jaw and kept his mouth shut when he realized that brain boy was only here to help.
ย
Joaquin placed Mayaโ€™s left arm over his shoulder and asked Ace for help. Ace only paused for a moment before following suit and placing Mayaโ€™s other arm over his shoulder. Honestly, he could have carried her by himself, but he decided to play nice since Maya was obviously in a fragile state.
ย
Ace rolled his eyes as Joaquin spoke words of reassurance to Maya. Thatโ€™s supposed to be my job, he thought. Ace realized he wasnโ€™t exactly the most comforting person, but still. The two of them got Maya settled to a spot on the grass and Joaquin offered her water. Ace was still confused as to what had happened until Joaquin asked Maya, โ€œWhat was it?โ€
ย
She had a vision. Of course that's what happened, it was one of the gifts she received from her father. Ace felt dumb for not figuring that out sooner and mad that Joaquin knew it right away. Feeling slightly jealous, Ace sat his hand on top of Mayaโ€™s, offering her comfort. He may not be as smart as Joaquin, but Maya was one of his closest friends and he knew how to make her feel better. At least, he thought he did.

Wesley Tate was not a man who smiled often, at least not with genuinely gentle intent. His smiles were a mask, meant to tightly conceal any true emotion, or highly calculated to elicit the correct response from those around him. Wes was not a sloppy person, and unchecked displays of emotion were just that. Watching Lux lip sync in his arms though, alive, and unabashed, and completely open was like a sirenโ€™s call that Wes couldnโ€™t ignore. Hers was a kind of beauty he found hard to define, which was yet another thing about Lux that left Wes feeling like he was wading through uncharted territory. What he was sure of however, was that he didnโ€™t want this song to end. In that moment, with her arms around his shoulders, Wes felt his lips turn up ever so slightly, lids lowered into something soft and unguarded. And then Seb arrived.

At first, Wes was too stunned with disbelief to react. Besides the fact that his best friend had just stepped on his toes romantically, (a cardinal sin between two friends whoโ€™d chased as much tail as they had) riling up a teammate like that the night before the Agon was deeply stupid. Seb was many things, but he wasnโ€™t an idiot. Why he was trying to sabotage their team now, Wes wasnโ€™t sure, but it needed to fucking stop. Before he had time to mitigate any of the damage however, Seb hurled one final insult, and Lux stormed off toward the lake. Wes moved to go after her, but was intercepted be Seb before he made it more than two steps. What his friend had to say did little to stop the churning anger in his gut that Wes was doing his best to keep a lid on.

He and Seb had always been different, though complimentary. He knew who Seb was, the peacock nature, chameleon sensibilities, and Wes had never faulted him for that. In this moment however, listening to him lord a sense of supposed superiority over Lux by reason of mere circumstance of birth, Wes felt nothing bust distaste for howโ€ฆshallow Seb sounded. Wes did believe in a pecking order of superiority. Some people were born with talent, grit, or an indomitable will that helped them claw their way to the top. Heโ€™d built their team from those very values, but the idea that being born to excess was somehow the deciding factor was ridiculous to Wes.

โ€œI have too much respect for both your prides to think an apology would undo any of the damage you just did, but I had better never hear you call her that word again.โ€ Wes didnโ€™t raise his voice, he didnโ€™t need to with Seb. Theyโ€™d known each other long enough to recognize when the other was deathly serious.

โ€œWho I dance with is my business, regardless of the quantity.โ€ Gently, he extracted his arm from the brunette half of Sebโ€™s entourage, and rejecting the drink as well with a swift kiss to her hand. โ€Iโ€™m afraid I have a prior engagement this evening my dear, but I leave you in most capable hands.โ€ The words were for the girl, but his eyes didnโ€™t break contact with Sebโ€™s until he turned and walked toward the lake.

Lux was clearly agitated when Wes finally caught sight of her again, and he slowed his approach with deliberately heavy footfalls so that she would hear him coming. Besides the fact that it was profoundly stupid to sneak up on a warrior of Luxโ€™s skill, Wes understood the link between pride and composure. If Lux didnโ€™t want him to see something, sheโ€™d have time to put her game face on before he got to her. What exactly he was going to say, Wes wasnโ€™t sure. He hated not having a plan of attack, but he was beginning to grow used to this general lack of footing where she was concerned. โ€œSebโ€™s an ass.โ€ He began simply, more statement of truth than apology. Seb had a mean streak that was a marvelous tool in their defense, but was rough to be on the receiving end of. Lux knew who she was getting into bed with when she signed on to this team, but as the teamโ€™s all but official leader, it was his job to make sure she was okay. That was most certainly the only reason heโ€™d comeโ€ฆhe was almost convinced of that. โ€œI doubt heโ€™ll stop being an ass where youโ€™re concerned. I wouldnโ€™t have recruited you on this team though, if I thought you were trashโ€ฆand I definitely wouldnโ€™t have let you name it.โ€ Wes finished with the ghost of old disgruntlement. He had no idea if those words were the right ones to comfort her or not, Wes was rarely sure of anything where Lux was concerned, but it was the best he had for the moment.

As dazed as she was, Maya wasnโ€™t sure just when Joaquin showed up, but she was grateful for his presence none the less as he and Ace helped haul her off the dance floor. The cool night air was both soothing and overwhelming, as suddenly a coconut bra and island girl get up felt far too inadequate to fight off the chill. โ€œThanks.โ€ Maya bit out, taking the water Joaquin offered and took small sips. As much as sheโ€™d like to gulp the whole thing down, Maya knew better, and really didnโ€™t feel like puking it back up on somebodyโ€™s shoes.

โ€Iโ€™m not sure.โ€ Maya answered honestly after a moment. Her visions were rarely clear cut, usually more visual metaphor than anything concrete. Some things in them were fixed, events already set in motion, but there were always variables at play. A kaleidoscope of possibilities to be parsed through made an interpreter of the vision more important as the vision itself. It didnโ€™t help that accurate readers were rare, and a misinterpreted vision could often do more harm than good. While Maya was considered somewhat gifted in this area, the pressure to produce good intel felt crushing.

It wasnโ€™t until Ace slipped his hand in hers that Maya felt she could breathe again, and she squeezed back while taking comfort in his reassuring warmth. โ€œItโ€™s dangerous to speculate, but there was a lot of bloodโ€ฆand my father was involved.โ€ Those details alone were concerning, but they didnโ€™t tell them anything conclusive. An obvious conclusion, was that it was a warning of death, likely for herself or one of her siblings, but that was a rabbit hole Maya knew better than to jump down. If she was fated to die tomorrow, there wasnโ€™t much she could do about it. Greek literature was littered with the tragedies of those who tried to defy the fates, and the results were never good. Floating that particular suspicion would only upset her team mates, and none of them could afford to be distracted tomorrow.

โ€œIt looked like some kind of temple, stone, tight quarters, nothing to identify it though from the inside.โ€ Maya listed off pertinent details as clinically as possible, trying to distance herself from the gore sheโ€™d seen.

Abby could practically see Caldenโ€™s eye twitch as Ryan chimed in, and any hope Lottie had of deescalating the situation died as Cal began cracking his knuckles. It was a bit of a tell really, a habit Abby had picked up on from their matches in class. The son of Zeus wasnโ€™t looking to pull any punches tonight, which was bad news for Abby since he outclassed her when it came to pure physical strength. Not by much granted, but enough to be a mark in his favor. Luckily, Abby edged him out in the speed department, and despite her close proximity to a perfectly good bottle of whiskey, she remained annoyingly sober. Going by smell, Cal was not.

โ€œYou know, I was going to wait until tomorrow to do this, but fuck it! Why wait?!โ€ Calโ€™s grin was all teeth, as he lunged forward fist first. Abby barely had time to push Ryan to the side and out of the line of fire, but it was a good thing she had since the impact of the hit to her middle sent her sliding back a good five feet, dirt tracks in the grass carved out in her wake. If she hadnโ€™t been a child of Ares, Abby was pretty sure sheโ€™d have some broken ribs. As it was, she was probably going to have a seriously nasty bruise, and she coughed doubled over while trying to regain her breath. If there was blood in the spittle she spat out, Abby ignored it.

โ€œIโ€™m gonna grind you down to where you belong, under my boot! Maybe Iโ€™ll even let you up once you lick it clean!โ€ Cal didnโ€™t let up, trying to follow up with a knee aimed toward her face, but Abby dodged to the left at the last second and let his own momentum carry him forward and off balance. His guard down, Abby pivoted before driving her foot up and into his gut like she was punting a football. If her opponent had been mortal, that would have been game over, but it only winded Cal. Seizing upon the momentary advantage, Abby connected a quick upper cut to his face, (Cal would definitely be sporting a nice shiner tomorrow morning.) then latched hold of his arm and launched him toward the bar. Luckily everyone had scattered pretty quickly, as Cal crashed into it with enough force to leave it a virtual pile of rubble.

โ€œStick to grunting asshole, your smack talk sucks.โ€ Abby ground out as she straitened back up. A fighter of Calโ€™s caliber wouldnโ€™t be down for long, and she shifted into a guard stance as she waited for the next onslaught that would inevitably come. Sure enough, Cal began digging himself out of the rubble, and launched himself at her again.

โ€œENOUGH!โ€ A crisp British voice boomed out, and suddenly Cal was suspended in mid-air, surrounded by some kind of crimson essence. It might have been funny, watching him dangled motionless like that spewing profanity, except Abby couldnโ€™t move either. That realization was like a bucket of ice water being dropped on her, Abbyโ€™s muscles tensing painfully as she struggled to hang on to any semblance of reason.

โ€œCool it you two, save it for tomorrow!โ€ A much more feminine voice chimed in. Whatever Abby had expected to end this fight, it wasnโ€™t the sudden appearance of Mr. Holden and Miss McKinney walking through some kind of portal.

โ€œHonestly, you two couldnโ€™t leave each other be for one evening?โ€ Mr. Holdenโ€™s tone of voice was aggrieved, but there was an intensity to his gaze that Abby found unsettling. She wanted to hit him, jerk away, gain some distance, anything but stay frozen here like some kind of rag doll. Everyoneโ€™s intentions felt sinister to Abby when she was restrained. โ€œVery disappointing.โ€

โ€œMerrickโ€ฆโ€ Miss McKinney warned with a quick glance at Abby. As the school counselor, June knew better than most that this was the wrong form of punishment for that particular student.

โ€œRightโ€ฆyes of course.โ€ Mr. Holden agreed languidly walking forward, and with a lingering pat to her head, the red essence reseeded from Abby. Instinctively, she shot back, needing space to collect herself. Cal was also released, hitting the ground with an unceremonious โ€œoomphโ€, before Miss McKinney pulled him up. โ€œI think youโ€™ve had enough for one evening.โ€ She drawled with a frown. Cal still looked pissed, and heโ€™d be a pain to deal with tomorrow, but he knew better to try anything now that teachers were involved. So instead, he stalked off toward the dorms with as much dignity as he could muster.

โ€œCampus patrol is sweeping by in an hour, I suggest you all arenโ€™t here when they arrive.โ€ Mr. Holden announced like a question, once again their jovial, if eccentric, Arcane studies teacher.
