Name:
Nathaniel Creed

Nickame or Known Name:
Nathan

Age:
20

Gender:
Male

Role:
Guy 2

Rank:
Gunner

Personality:
Nathan is a bright and positive young man, always smiling and laughing no matter how grim or boring the situation may be. Behind his smile is the heart of a scamp as he's always cheating, lying and tricking any stranger unfortunate enough to cross his path. He's been known to steal, cheat, fight and even get run out of port by a mob of angry young women from time to time. He tries his best to keep his bad habits away from the ship at all times though he does have something of a record of flirting with most of the girls on the crew. Despite all his flaws and mad grinning, Nathan is as loyal and brilliant a gunner a crew could find, never backing away from a good fight worth fighting and never missing a shot that he meant to hit. When put with a serious challenge, he tends to get a little creepy as the mad look in his eye goes a little too well with the crazy ideas he comes up with to make a shot work.

Likes:
+ Gambling
+ Singing
+ Showing off
+ Pretty girls
+ Apples

Dislikes:
- Losing
- Being serious
- Boredom
- Fish
- Damage to his cannons

Fears:
~ Whales
~ Sea monsters
~ Death

Weapon of Choice:
Flintlock pistol

Skills:
Nathan is very quick and accurate when it comes to calculating cannons shots and he's deadly accurate with both his cannons and his flintlock. He's also very good at lying and is an expert at card games and gambling.

Character History:
Nathan was born in a backwater port you couldn't find on a map to a father he never knew and a mother he hardly got to know. He was left an orphan before he could even take his first steps and was quickly adopted by an old shop keeper who considered himself something of a scientist. While he didn't grow up wealthy, the man had enough money to get the two of them by and he gave Nathan all the attention and affection he needed along with the best home schooling he could offer. While bright, Nathan was fidgety and often ran off during studies just to get in trouble elsewhere. By the time he was of legal age, he'd become almost as brilliant as his adoptive father and easily ten times more troublesome as he became a regular to the town's jail.

One day, two ships started fighting just off the coast. Nathan watched in excitement as the battle went on until eventually one ship surrendered and the other came into port. The moment the captain stepped into the town, Nathan approached her and did the less than bright thing of poking fun of her crew for their poor aim at such quarters. When he claimed that he, who had never touched a cannon in his life, could do better, the captain took him up on the offer and brought him under deck, challenging him to hit a rock jutting out of the waters. His first shot was shaky, the shot falling short and drifting far too much. The second shot hit dead on. Nathan became the gunner for Valem Eralia's crew that day.

So begins...

Nathan kicked the door to the backroom of the inn open, starting off in a full sprint the second his foot touched the ground again while laughing his head off. A few heads turned as he pushed through the front door, nearly knocking over a few old sailors on the way out. They probably were yelling but he couldn't hear a thing over the jingle coming from his pockets and the heavy laden bags under his arms. He almost felt bad for the three men he'd left behind until he remembered that they'd all drawn their weapons at the same time. So what if a pocket ace or two had slipped out when he wasn't looking? He cut into an alley and made his way to the docks. This would have probably made for an intense chase if the three apes weren't still in the backroom, trying to untangle themselves from one another after getting the flipped table off them. Funny how that tends to happen whenever Nathan and a deck of cards got involved.

He made a sharp turn as he got towards the dock, practically skidding as he made his way onto the ship, tossing the sacks of goods on the deck as he put his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breathe after the sprinting and the laughing which still hadn't stopped. After a few moments he looked up and saw the captain a few feet away. She was most likely just about to chew him out for being late which he honestly had no idea if he was or not. That or getting in trouble again. Which he knew he was. Oh, and then there was the kid she had. 'Huh... that doesn't seem right,' he thought as he straightened up and gave Valem a mock salute and chuckled. "Mornin', Captain Shortfuse. Wait." He turned his head to check which direction the sun was. "Right, still morning." He looked back and clapped his hands together, folding them in front of him before stating, "So." He unfolded his index fingers and tilted his hands to point at the boy. "What's with the little person?"

Rat

"Hey, you big doofus! I ain' no little person" Rat shouted defensively, his brows furrowing as his eyes narrowed. He clenched his fist and waved it in Nathan's face. "I ought'a knock the livin' daylights out of you". He then turned to Valem, huffed and jumped down from the railing. He stormed back Nathan, stomping on his large foot as he passed. Rat hated people who called him 'little' or 'tiny' or 'midget', it really got on his nerves and, although he was only a small child, he wasn't afraid to shout at people when they did.

Valem Eralia

Valem giggled at Rat's reaction, then clasped her hand around her mouth to stop her laughter from increasing. "Oh wow, that kid's just brilliant" she mumbled. Her gaze shifted over to Nathan and her expression went serious, "You're late.. again". Valem took the bottle of rum, which she had hidden under her jacket at all times, out and took a few swigs. Once she was satisfied, she pushed the bottle towards Nathan and grinned, "Want some?".

Nathan took a deep gasp of breathe as the little hellion stepped on his foot, jumping up on one leg and rubbing his poor little toes as the kid ran off. "Hey! Get back here so I can flog ya!" He didn't bother chasing after him once he heard Valem's laughing. She was a cute thing, just a few years older than him though you wouldn't tell by looking at the her. She somehow kept a certain softness that most children loose when they grow older or at least that's how Nathan thought she looked. But her experience and age could be easily seen in her eyes. Hard to not notice -that- when she suddenly shifted from cheerfully amused to coldly stern. Ah, the captain...

"You're late.. again."

Nathan reached up to mess with his hair as he tried to think up a good excuse. "Well, I have a perfectly good reason for being late. You see, I was busy. Saving orphans. From a burning building. A burning prison, actually. During a riot. A burning, rioting prison full of orphans is very serious business." He finished with a wide grin as he adjusted his headband. Whether it was true or not, Nathan liked to think the captain was sweet on him and that if he just made her forget the problem, she'd drop it. And apparently it worked. When she offered the bottle of rum, he snatched it up without a second though. "Don't mind if I do," he chimed before he lifted it to his lips and took a heavy swig, shuddering as he lowered it again. As he handed it back, he heard the clink of metal behind him and saw the sacks of loot he'd just dropped off. "Oh! That reminds me." He turned around and scooped it up, bringing it over to Valem. "A generous cut from the best man on board. Free of charge, debt or favor. Unless..." He stepped closer, filling the gap between the two as he leaned in, a devilish grin on his lips. "You want there to be."

Nair let the fever blister joke pass, for now. He had a good zinger response, but he figured he'd save it just in case the joke came up later. Instead, he looked down at the kid, who just threw a slight fit when he was called short by the ship's gunner. That was interesting. As was the Captain's insistence that he, Nair, be the one to protect the kid. Nair figured he'd swing by the Captain's quarters later, once the ship had set sail, to figure out a little more.

Nathan was one of the people on the ship that Nair enjoyed slightly more than the others. They both seemed to appreciate the number of attractive women on the ship, more or less. Nair figured he'd offer to share a bottle of his good whiskey with Nathan later that night, once the ship had set sail, for a christening of the voyage. Somewhere on the ship, Nair had hid a case of extremely expensive and rare whiskey that was something of a ship legend. He broke out one bottle of it at the beginning of every voyage, and never told anyone where he got it from.

"I'd like to be there when this hypothetical debt is paid. As a witness, of course. You know. Witnessing. I learned a new song while on leave that's perfect for such debt exchanges." Thinking about music made him want to play some, so he bowed to the two. "Anyway, I've got a job to do and I take my work very seriously," he said as he walked away and grabbed his violin from his room. From there he walked out back out on deck and looked at the kid. Then he climbed up into the ropes, about halfway up to the eagle's nest. From there, he looked back down at Rat. "If you can climb, climb up here so I can tell you shit about life," Nair called down, then turned his attention away and stared off into the ocean as he started to play a melody.

Valem smiled as he passed her the loot, it was one of her all-time favourite things; money. "A generous cut from the best man on board. Free of charge, debt or favor. Unless..." He stepped closer, "You want there to be". She thought for a moment or two, then returned his devlish grin as she ran a finger lightly over his lips and cheek. "A captain could use a break every now and then, y'know" she said, "There's just one problem... You're not my type", she said the last part rather bluntly and placed a hand on his chest only to shove him away. "Maybe some other time, boy, I'll come around when I'm ready". That was all Valem said before she dissapeared back into her room.

She knew Nathan was only joking, yet she struggled to turn him away. "You're lettin' yourself slip Valem" she said to herself, "Pull yourself together! A captain cannot and does not flirt with the crew, it's unheard of..", Valem tried to get herself to calm down, but it only resulted in more angered chanting and muttering. "But, what if I just-.. Nope, nope! Unheard of". She couldn't take it anymore, the urge to just go out and kiss him was overwhelming.

Valem opened the door and stormed up to Nathan, gripping onto his head and pushing her lips into his. She held this position for atleast 5 seconds before turning and rushing back into her room. Although the kiss was forced onto him, it was still nice. She clasped a hand over her mouth and thought 'Well, that's something I won't be doing too often'.

Nathan felt a stir in his chest as the captain stroked his cheek followed very quickly by a lead ball in his stomach when she shoved him away. Ah, the captain. The beauty of a porcelain doll coupled with the cruelty of a jagged bed of glass. Nathan was familiar with women swooning for him just as often as they rejected him. Valem had that unique gift of doing both at the same time. Maybe that's what drew Nathan to her in the way she did. Keeping what they both wanted just at arm's reach. He couldn't have her and it was killing him while it kept him going at it again time after time. He let out a soft sight as he turned around to, picking up the second sack of loot in one hand and slinging the other over his shoulder with the other. He turned around quickly on the spot when the captain came bursting out of her quarters and made a beeline for him. A thousand thoughts went through his head as he tried to figure out what was wrong. Had those bastard in the backroom put up fake goods to gamble with? Did she decide to just deck him for being forward? These and every other idea he had went right out the window when she reached up, grabbed his face and kissed him. Time seemed to stop as he didn't know what to do, not even sure if he should kiss her back. Before he came to any conclusion, she pulled away and stormed right back into her room, leaving Nathan to just stand there like he'd just been slapped for no reason. Seconds ticked by before his brain finally came up with a response. "Wow."

A bright grin crossed his lips as he shook his head, trying to shake off the daze that had suddenly set over him. He raised his voice and said loud enough for Valem. "Didn't take you long to come around." He let out a mirthful laugh as he turned towards the crow's nest, looking up at Nair and the kid. Nathan liked Nair. He was funny without trying, he was a damn master when you put a fiddle in his hands and he only hated his guts a little bit whenever he managed to steal a woman he was wooing in port. Mind you, it was likely he felt the same way. "Oi!" He yelled up at the two, holding up the bag of loot in his hand. "Got a nice catch this time! Consider this your big tip for the month!" He took a step back, swinging the sack at his side like a sling before chucking it up into the ropes where the man and child sat.

Valem Eralia

"Didn't take you long to come around."

Valem rolled her eyes. He could be annoying at times, but the kid had a good heart, and Valem liked that about him. "Oi!" she heard, "Got a nice catch this time! Consider this your big tip for the month!". That was enough to freeze Valem where she stood. She thought Nathan must have been talking about Nair's earlier comment, and she let out an angered huff. Was that all she was to him? Just another of his countless women, of whom he referred to as a 'catch'? Then again, he could be talking about the loot. This peaked her curiosity just enough to make her walk back onto the deck, a puzzled expression on her face. "Catch? What catch are you referring to, boy?", her voice was cold and snake-like, like something you'd hear in your worst nightmare. She didn't often show this side whilst around her crew, but it did come out when she was either deeply offended or super annoyed.

Rat

Rat saw the loot heading in his direction. He jumped up and grabbed the bag with both hands, then landed perfectly on two feet. He shook the bag slightly, then giggled and passed it to Nair. "I reckon it's a good loot" he commented, "Don't often get big loots 'round this time". With another small giggle, he looked down at Nathan, "Treat Valem well, or you'll have me to answer for!". Rat was quite protective of Valem, even though he'd only known her for a short while. He wouldn't want any harm to come to her. He sat down and exhaled deeply, "So, what you thinkin'a doin' with your loot, Nair?" Rat asked, curiosity clear on his face.

Nathan froze on the spot when he heard the less than comforting sound of Valem's cabin door slamming open. Her words were cold and poison coated and as he slowly turned on the spot, she didn't look all that happy either. It was like looking at the devil staring over the shoulder of an angel. He was at a lost of what he could have done wrong this time and it was obvious that her intention wasn't to brutally assault his lips with hers this time though he had a feeling that he'd get a good hit to the head if he didn't tread carefully. Which didn't help much as the first words that left his lips were completely idiotic. "Do you ever feel old calling me 'boy' all the time?" He sighed and put his hands on his hips as he chewed on the inside of his cheek. A few seconds ticked by before he put the pieces together. His eyebrows shot up as he lifted up his hands defensively and took a step back. "Oh, no. No, no, no, no. I-I didn't mean -that-. God, I didn't mean that. I meant... I had a cut for Nair. I would -never- think like that." Nathan calmed down for a moment and suddenly got a wicked thought in his mind. He lowered his hands and stepped towards the captain again, trying to keep a straight face. "And I'm absolutely appalled you'd even think that I'd use that context!" he said as he pointed an accusing finger in her face. "I've done nothing but give, give, give and you're on my case just because you want a reason to be. Is that it, huh?" Of course, Nathan wasn't -really- upset but if he played his cards right, maybe a little convincing guilt trip would get Valem off his back. And hopefully not hate him for it after.

A low growl erupted from Valem's chest as she gripped her hand around the handle of her sword. "Give, give, give? You merely gave me some loot and made me want to kiss you, I'd hardly call that giving. And how do you even-... You know what? Nevermind" she said softly, he whole mood changing in a second or two. She walked up to Nathan until she was only a few centimeters away from him. Valem pressed her cheek against his and whispered a message in his ear. "If you dare stand up to me infront of the crew, I'll cut your man parts off in your sleep, got it?". Before he could reply, she pulled away and nodded the other rest of the crew before turning and walking back into her quarters. A large grin crept onto her face as she replayed the memory over and over in her head, "You never lose it, not ever".

A look of utter defeat crossed Nathan's face as the captain walked away. She didn't really make any good points nor even try but there was no denying she won. She wanted to thus she did. Nathan let out another sad little sigh as he bowed his head and let his arms fall comically to this side. "Glad we had this talk..." he said with a slight crack in his voice before she walked back into her cabin again. Geesh. Talk about mixed signals. Kissing him out of the blue one minute and threatening his manhood the next. That was the captain for you... "She's going to be the death of me," he muttered as he lifted his head again and reached up to adjust his headband. "Try counting out what's in the bag before you get mad at me again!" he shouted in a somewhat stern voice just loud enough for her to hear before Nair plopped down next to him from the netting.

โ€œYou know...She threatened my meat and potatoes earlier today too. I'm having trouble figuring out if she's running out of threats, or has an odd fetish. Smoke and a drink in the crow's nest tonight to christen the voyage? My treat."

"Hehe. If she's into that sort of thing, maybe I should consider myself lucky she only brutally assaulted my face this time. And please never use that metaphor ever again. You're going to ruin dinner for me. Again." He turned and pointed a finger in the musician's face. "And you better not be talking like that in front of the little pipsqueak. As much as I'd love to see him get a few mental scars, the captain seems real soft on the tyke and I wouldn't be surprised if those threats became very, very real." When he offered the drink and smoke, he nodded once with a growing smile on his lips. "Sounds like a plan. God knows we're going to need it to get these get rid of these mental scars." He said these last two words as he turned his head towards Valem's cabin, raising his voice a little to make sure she heard. He let out a little sigh as he looked back to Nair and put his hands in his pockets. "She is... something," he muttered, making especially sure to keep his voice down so only Nair could hear him. No point in another interrogation from the captain on the meaning of words.
