Valem Eralia

"You know when I said be quiet? Yeah, I meant it"

0 · 237 views · located in Ku'Ranin

a character in “Legend of Os'Roth - A Pirate's Dream”, as played by WhySoSerious?

Description

Name: Valem Eralia

Nickame or known name: The feared one.

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Role: Girl one

Rank: Captain

Appearance:
Image

Personality: Valem can be quite an intelligent, serious and intimidating person on the outside, but on the inside she is quite cute and sweet. She loves to laugh and joke, but when it comes down to business then she is deadly serious. Despite her good nature, Valem can be quite short tempered and easily annoyed, though she rarely ever ever shows it around her crew.

Likes: Valem loves her rum and you'll rarely ever see her without a bottle in her hand or strapped to her belt, although she doesn't get drunk too easily. She also enjoys speaking with her brother, listening to the musicians and helping out around the ship.

Dislikes: She doesn't particularly like getting up too early, it annoys her greatly. Valem hates bright lights, anything with a slimy or greasy texture (Like fish, unwashed hair, etc) and upset people.

Fears: Through her life, Valem has always had a strange fear of sharks and things that fly. At first it was amusing, now it just gets in her way.

Weapon of choice: Valem took a liking to swords from a very young age, so she mainly just uses her custom made Katana that she'd got from her father.

Skills: She has extremely speedy reflexes and a heightened sense of smell.

Character history: Valem grew up in a middle-class family within Ku'Ranin. Her father was a blacksmith and her mother was a performer. She used these to her advantage. Her father would teach her in close-quarters combat and she would use her mothers theatrical skills to get her way. Though, this started to work less and less as she reached her teen years. People had lost interest in her, yet her father still trained her. Once she'd reached the age of 17, she could weild weapons at a 'master' level and was quite proud of herself. She'd often go out and defeat tiny trolls and goblins as a small pass time.

One day, her father took her down to the docks to go test out a new ship he'd bought. Valem loved it, the salty ocean breeze whipping past her face, the feeling of freedom. That was it, she'd decided that she wanted to be a pirate, so that she could do as she pleased. This was what kept her going for the next 5 years. At the age of 22, she managed to become worthy enough to be a captain and started up her own crew. Her father had passed away by this time, so she assumed the ship was hers now. Valem left her mother and began a life at see, now she returns home once more to recruit able-bodied members to help her in he quest to hunt down the countless monsters that roam freely around the world.

So begins...

The drunken man flung his rum around like it was worth nothing, this made Valem angry. She gripped her hand on the cup and stared deep into the man's eyes, then spoke. "You probably spent your wife and childs money to buy this alcohol, didn't you?" she asked him. The man simply nodded, his eyes full of confusion and fear. She didn't blame him, she could be quite intimidating at times. "Well then, I suggest you either stop spending their money or actually drink the bloody thing" Valem muttered. The man nodded again. She gave the poor man a half-hearted smile, then let go of the cup and walked off. Her sudden release of the cup made the man stagger backwards, tripping over the stool behind him and tumbling over. All the alcohol was either on his chest or his face. Everyone was laughing, some people even clapped at Valem. "Thank you, thank you" she said with a bow, then tipped her hat and walked off.

She'd often do this. Humiliate the morons and the drunk men, it was sort of like a hobby. She was well-known for it, or mostly feared because she was so scary and would probably end someone's life than have a simple debate. This was what gave her the nickname 'The Feared One'. She giggled as she left and saw her mother staring at her, dissappointment clear in her emerald green eyes. "Oh, don't give me that look" Valem grumbled, "The guy was wasting rum that some people can't even afford. You expect me to just let that slide?". Her mother shook her head, turned then walked away. Valem huffed, then scooted over a few steps and sat on a barrel that was next to the door. "Right, now I just have to wait for someone even slightly tolerable to show up".

Octavia looked up from her forge as her mother walked in, smiling. She stood and bowed respectfully. "Good evening, Mrs. Eralia." She murmured softly. She was finishing the last touches on her rapier, Fira, when she walked in. She heard her sister outside but made no comment, as long as neither saw the distinctive birthmark on her neck, she could continue to live with them, albeit a bit awkwardly. She looked back at the sharp, gleaming blade and gripped the hilt, careful of the still warm blade. With a sigh, it was placed in the water, making it cool instantly. With a tug and an inspection, she deemed the blade battle ready once again. But she had no real battles to fight.

She undid her hair, the rusty locks covering her back. Slipping the rapier into the sheath with a quiet 'thunk', she nodded at her mother and wandered outside, brushing the metal bits off her shirt as she did. She let her eyes drift to her strong powerful sister before she quickly lowered her eyes and lifted her hood over her head. "I will return soon, Ms. Eralia..." She muttered softly, her voice calm but respectful. And with another somewhat lingering glance at her, she slipped off into the shadows. She had no real destination, just to wander the streets, maybe buy a bit of food for the house while she was out.

Valem'd had enough of just sitting around and waiting. It was just turning morning as she tipped her hat up and clambered off the barrel. She needed something to occupy her. "I wonder where me bloody crew's gone" she muttered, her icey blue orbs scanning the area for any signs of the people she'd accepted into her crew. "None.. That's just perfect. Well, if they don't show up within the next hour I'm setting off without them" Valem said, heading off in the direction of the docks, where she kept the boat her father'd bought when she was a little girl, the Emi'dras as he called it. Whilst walking throught the docks, she spotted an old woman that appeared to be harassing a small child, trying to get him to buy something.

"C'mon boy, just take the rum, it'll only cost'ya two pence". The small boy, who looked around 6 years old, shook his head and back away, but the old lady gripped onto the scruff of his dirty rags, pulling him closer and shoving the bottle into his chest. Valem gripped her fingers around the grip of her blade, stepping closer so that she was only an arms-length away. "Bugger off, hag". The lady's dirty yellow eyes shot up in Valem's direction, and she backed away immediatly. Valem wrapped her arms around the child, lifted him up and continued to walk to her ship. "You got any family, kiddo?" she asked. The boy simply shook his head and released a small whimpering sound as he buried his head in the hair on her neck. "I dun' got none" he replied, his voice shakey. "Well, you do now" she said to him, a small creeping its way onto her face. She didn't know why, but she'd instantly wanted to care for the boy, possibly because she'd never really had the chance to be a mother figure in her lifetime. She wanted it so desperatly that she thought it was a good idea to snatch up the first homeless child she layed eyes on.

As she reached the boat, she looked over to the guard and nodded. "This here's my ship, lemme through" Valem said, the guard scooted to the side to allow her to board the ship. Once onboard, she put the boy back on the ground. "The name's Valem, and you are?". The boy hesitated for a moment, but he felt safe around her, "My name's Rat" he said. A puzzled expression swept over Valem's face as she heard his name. "Your name is Rat? Well, you certainly don't hear that name very often. Anyway, welcome aboard the Emi'dras, one of the most feared ships around". Rat smiled, "I ain't never been on a pirate ship before" he said cheerily, wandering off to see what the ship had to offer. Valem giggled and turned back to her cabin. "Hey, Rat, our room's over here. Head in when you get bored, and don't you go wanderin' off the ship" Valem called back to him as she watched him peek over the railing, down at the water. Rat nodded, "Okay!".

Valem entered her cabin, leaving the door slightly open so that Rat could come in if he wanted. Her eyes widened as she saw a man lying in her bed. "Oi, you lazy git, I thought I told you to beat it last night" she hissed, grabbed a nearby notepad and lobbed it at his head, causing him to awake with a snort and a grumble. "Ahh, c'mon baby, don't be like that" the man said as he sat himself up, rubbing his head from where the pad had hit him. A low growl escaped Valem's narrowly parted lips and the man shot up and held his hands up as if to surrender. "Alright, alright. I'm going" he said, then walked out of the room and down the plank that was connecting the boat to the wooden floor of the docks.

Rat entered and yawned slightly, "I heard shoutin', was it you?" he asked, Valem nodded. "Just some idiot that I thought was cute when I was drunk, nothing much" Valem informed him, her tone harsh yet cheery. "You tired, hun?". Rat shrugged, "I think so, I'm findin' it hard to keep me eyes open" Rat said. Valem huffed and lifted him up once more, then placed him on her bed and pulled the blanket up to his neck. Valem leaned down and pecked his forehead, causing his cheeks to turn a rosey-red colour. She couldn't help but giggle. "Night, Rat. Sweet dreams". Valem exited the room as quietly as she could. For a while, she just wandered around the deck with nothing much to do, then the leant against the railings and watched the docks to see if any of her crew were arriving.

Drake grabbed the final bits of supplies from the house and whistled as Jenko bounced onto his head carring his revolver. "Thank you Jenko." he said putting it in the holster he had bought awhile back. He threw the sack over his shoulder and walked towards the ship. His boots clanked as he hit the docks and the ship came into view. He walked up the gangplank and saw Nair, Captain Valem, and some kid talking. He walked up with a smile and spoke in a calm voice. "Captain I am aboard and ready to help, but may I borrow Nair for a moment we need to discuss about his 'fever blisters' in that area. " he said in quotations and he knew that Nair would understand if he was sober enough. "So Nair come to my office whenever you can and Captain just ring me up if anything needs done." he walked away Jenko jumping off his shoulder to look at the kid one last time before bounding after his master who was restocking the cabinets with supplies he had used on their last trip.

Valem Eralia

Valem arched a brow at Nair, "We're shipping out when the entire crew gets here. Until then you'll just have to occupy yourself" she muttered in response, taking no notice of Rat's continues babbling about being taken away. She was about to speak again, but Drake approached and spoke to them. "Captain I am aboard and ready to help, but may I borrow Nair for a moment we need to discuss about his 'fever blisters' in that area". Valem let her head fall back as she let out a roar of harsh laughter. "So Nair come to my office whenever you can and Captain just ring me up if anything needs done". She nodded, too busy laughing to answer properly. Octavia walked out before bowing and entering Drake's office. Valem looked puzzled, but she shrugged it off and turned back to Nair. "Run along, we wouldn't want your fever blisters to get any worse, now, would we?". She tried her best to hold of a smile, but she failed and flashed him a toothy grin.

Now she was done laughing, she turned to Rat and picked him up, walked over to the railing and sat him on it. "Listen, Rat, we're going to be going on a dangerous journey. I completely understand if you don't want to come and I'm not forcing you to stay here. The choice is yours".

Rat

Rat shook his head. "I want to come on the journey with you" he said. "I spent my whole life begging for food and water on the streets, I even spent a little while living with some bandits before they made me leave, and I'm sure as hell not going back there. If you'll have me, I'd like to stay".

Nathan kicked the door to the backroom of the inn open, starting off in a full sprint the second his foot touched the ground again while laughing his head off. A few heads turned as he pushed through the front door, nearly knocking over a few old sailors on the way out. They probably were yelling but he couldn't hear a thing over the jingle coming from his pockets and the heavy laden bags under his arms. He almost felt bad for the three men he'd left behind until he remembered that they'd all drawn their weapons at the same time. So what if a pocket ace or two had slipped out when he wasn't looking? He cut into an alley and made his way to the docks. This would have probably made for an intense chase if the three apes weren't still in the backroom, trying to untangle themselves from one another after getting the flipped table off them. Funny how that tends to happen whenever Nathan and a deck of cards got involved.

He made a sharp turn as he got towards the dock, practically skidding as he made his way onto the ship, tossing the sacks of goods on the deck as he put his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breathe after the sprinting and the laughing which still hadn't stopped. After a few moments he looked up and saw the captain a few feet away. She was most likely just about to chew him out for being late which he honestly had no idea if he was or not. That or getting in trouble again. Which he knew he was. Oh, and then there was the kid she had. 'Huh... that doesn't seem right,' he thought as he straightened up and gave Valem a mock salute and chuckled. "Mornin', Captain Shortfuse. Wait." He turned his head to check which direction the sun was. "Right, still morning." He looked back and clapped his hands together, folding them in front of him before stating, "So." He unfolded his index fingers and tilted his hands to point at the boy. "What's with the little person?"

Rat

"Hey, you big doofus! I ain' no little person" Rat shouted defensively, his brows furrowing as his eyes narrowed. He clenched his fist and waved it in Nathan's face. "I ought'a knock the livin' daylights out of you". He then turned to Valem, huffed and jumped down from the railing. He stormed back Nathan, stomping on his large foot as he passed. Rat hated people who called him 'little' or 'tiny' or 'midget', it really got on his nerves and, although he was only a small child, he wasn't afraid to shout at people when they did.

Valem Eralia

Valem giggled at Rat's reaction, then clasped her hand around her mouth to stop her laughter from increasing. "Oh wow, that kid's just brilliant" she mumbled. Her gaze shifted over to Nathan and her expression went serious, "You're late.. again". Valem took the bottle of rum, which she had hidden under her jacket at all times, out and took a few swigs. Once she was satisfied, she pushed the bottle towards Nathan and grinned, "Want some?".

Nathan took a deep gasp of breathe as the little hellion stepped on his foot, jumping up on one leg and rubbing his poor little toes as the kid ran off. "Hey! Get back here so I can flog ya!" He didn't bother chasing after him once he heard Valem's laughing. She was a cute thing, just a few years older than him though you wouldn't tell by looking at the her. She somehow kept a certain softness that most children loose when they grow older or at least that's how Nathan thought she looked. But her experience and age could be easily seen in her eyes. Hard to not notice -that- when she suddenly shifted from cheerfully amused to coldly stern. Ah, the captain...

"You're late.. again."

Nathan reached up to mess with his hair as he tried to think up a good excuse. "Well, I have a perfectly good reason for being late. You see, I was busy. Saving orphans. From a burning building. A burning prison, actually. During a riot. A burning, rioting prison full of orphans is very serious business." He finished with a wide grin as he adjusted his headband. Whether it was true or not, Nathan liked to think the captain was sweet on him and that if he just made her forget the problem, she'd drop it. And apparently it worked. When she offered the bottle of rum, he snatched it up without a second though. "Don't mind if I do," he chimed before he lifted it to his lips and took a heavy swig, shuddering as he lowered it again. As he handed it back, he heard the clink of metal behind him and saw the sacks of loot he'd just dropped off. "Oh! That reminds me." He turned around and scooped it up, bringing it over to Valem. "A generous cut from the best man on board. Free of charge, debt or favor. Unless..." He stepped closer, filling the gap between the two as he leaned in, a devilish grin on his lips. "You want there to be."

Nair let the fever blister joke pass, for now. He had a good zinger response, but he figured he'd save it just in case the joke came up later. Instead, he looked down at the kid, who just threw a slight fit when he was called short by the ship's gunner. That was interesting. As was the Captain's insistence that he, Nair, be the one to protect the kid. Nair figured he'd swing by the Captain's quarters later, once the ship had set sail, to figure out a little more.

Nathan was one of the people on the ship that Nair enjoyed slightly more than the others. They both seemed to appreciate the number of attractive women on the ship, more or less. Nair figured he'd offer to share a bottle of his good whiskey with Nathan later that night, once the ship had set sail, for a christening of the voyage. Somewhere on the ship, Nair had hid a case of extremely expensive and rare whiskey that was something of a ship legend. He broke out one bottle of it at the beginning of every voyage, and never told anyone where he got it from.

"I'd like to be there when this hypothetical debt is paid. As a witness, of course. You know. Witnessing. I learned a new song while on leave that's perfect for such debt exchanges." Thinking about music made him want to play some, so he bowed to the two. "Anyway, I've got a job to do and I take my work very seriously," he said as he walked away and grabbed his violin from his room. From there he walked out back out on deck and looked at the kid. Then he climbed up into the ropes, about halfway up to the eagle's nest. From there, he looked back down at Rat. "If you can climb, climb up here so I can tell you shit about life," Nair called down, then turned his attention away and stared off into the ocean as he started to play a melody.

Valem smiled as he passed her the loot, it was one of her all-time favourite things; money. "A generous cut from the best man on board. Free of charge, debt or favor. Unless..." He stepped closer, "You want there to be". She thought for a moment or two, then returned his devlish grin as she ran a finger lightly over his lips and cheek. "A captain could use a break every now and then, y'know" she said, "There's just one problem... You're not my type", she said the last part rather bluntly and placed a hand on his chest only to shove him away. "Maybe some other time, boy, I'll come around when I'm ready". That was all Valem said before she dissapeared back into her room.

She knew Nathan was only joking, yet she struggled to turn him away. "You're lettin' yourself slip Valem" she said to herself, "Pull yourself together! A captain cannot and does not flirt with the crew, it's unheard of..", Valem tried to get herself to calm down, but it only resulted in more angered chanting and muttering. "But, what if I just-.. Nope, nope! Unheard of". She couldn't take it anymore, the urge to just go out and kiss him was overwhelming.

Valem opened the door and stormed up to Nathan, gripping onto his head and pushing her lips into his. She held this position for atleast 5 seconds before turning and rushing back into her room. Although the kiss was forced onto him, it was still nice. She clasped a hand over her mouth and thought 'Well, that's something I won't be doing too often'.

Nathan felt a stir in his chest as the captain stroked his cheek followed very quickly by a lead ball in his stomach when she shoved him away. Ah, the captain. The beauty of a porcelain doll coupled with the cruelty of a jagged bed of glass. Nathan was familiar with women swooning for him just as often as they rejected him. Valem had that unique gift of doing both at the same time. Maybe that's what drew Nathan to her in the way she did. Keeping what they both wanted just at arm's reach. He couldn't have her and it was killing him while it kept him going at it again time after time. He let out a soft sight as he turned around to, picking up the second sack of loot in one hand and slinging the other over his shoulder with the other. He turned around quickly on the spot when the captain came bursting out of her quarters and made a beeline for him. A thousand thoughts went through his head as he tried to figure out what was wrong. Had those bastard in the backroom put up fake goods to gamble with? Did she decide to just deck him for being forward? These and every other idea he had went right out the window when she reached up, grabbed his face and kissed him. Time seemed to stop as he didn't know what to do, not even sure if he should kiss her back. Before he came to any conclusion, she pulled away and stormed right back into her room, leaving Nathan to just stand there like he'd just been slapped for no reason. Seconds ticked by before his brain finally came up with a response. "Wow."

A bright grin crossed his lips as he shook his head, trying to shake off the daze that had suddenly set over him. He raised his voice and said loud enough for Valem. "Didn't take you long to come around." He let out a mirthful laugh as he turned towards the crow's nest, looking up at Nair and the kid. Nathan liked Nair. He was funny without trying, he was a damn master when you put a fiddle in his hands and he only hated his guts a little bit whenever he managed to steal a woman he was wooing in port. Mind you, it was likely he felt the same way. "Oi!" He yelled up at the two, holding up the bag of loot in his hand. "Got a nice catch this time! Consider this your big tip for the month!" He took a step back, swinging the sack at his side like a sling before chucking it up into the ropes where the man and child sat.

Valem Eralia

"Didn't take you long to come around."

Valem rolled her eyes. He could be annoying at times, but the kid had a good heart, and Valem liked that about him. "Oi!" she heard, "Got a nice catch this time! Consider this your big tip for the month!". That was enough to freeze Valem where she stood. She thought Nathan must have been talking about Nair's earlier comment, and she let out an angered huff. Was that all she was to him? Just another of his countless women, of whom he referred to as a 'catch'? Then again, he could be talking about the loot. This peaked her curiosity just enough to make her walk back onto the deck, a puzzled expression on her face. "Catch? What catch are you referring to, boy?", her voice was cold and snake-like, like something you'd hear in your worst nightmare. She didn't often show this side whilst around her crew, but it did come out when she was either deeply offended or super annoyed.

Rat

Rat saw the loot heading in his direction. He jumped up and grabbed the bag with both hands, then landed perfectly on two feet. He shook the bag slightly, then giggled and passed it to Nair. "I reckon it's a good loot" he commented, "Don't often get big loots 'round this time". With another small giggle, he looked down at Nathan, "Treat Valem well, or you'll have me to answer for!". Rat was quite protective of Valem, even though he'd only known her for a short while. He wouldn't want any harm to come to her. He sat down and exhaled deeply, "So, what you thinkin'a doin' with your loot, Nair?" Rat asked, curiosity clear on his face.

Nathan froze on the spot when he heard the less than comforting sound of Valem's cabin door slamming open. Her words were cold and poison coated and as he slowly turned on the spot, she didn't look all that happy either. It was like looking at the devil staring over the shoulder of an angel. He was at a lost of what he could have done wrong this time and it was obvious that her intention wasn't to brutally assault his lips with hers this time though he had a feeling that he'd get a good hit to the head if he didn't tread carefully. Which didn't help much as the first words that left his lips were completely idiotic. "Do you ever feel old calling me 'boy' all the time?" He sighed and put his hands on his hips as he chewed on the inside of his cheek. A few seconds ticked by before he put the pieces together. His eyebrows shot up as he lifted up his hands defensively and took a step back. "Oh, no. No, no, no, no. I-I didn't mean -that-. God, I didn't mean that. I meant... I had a cut for Nair. I would -never- think like that." Nathan calmed down for a moment and suddenly got a wicked thought in his mind. He lowered his hands and stepped towards the captain again, trying to keep a straight face. "And I'm absolutely appalled you'd even think that I'd use that context!" he said as he pointed an accusing finger in her face. "I've done nothing but give, give, give and you're on my case just because you want a reason to be. Is that it, huh?" Of course, Nathan wasn't -really- upset but if he played his cards right, maybe a little convincing guilt trip would get Valem off his back. And hopefully not hate him for it after.

A low growl erupted from Valem's chest as she gripped her hand around the handle of her sword. "Give, give, give? You merely gave me some loot and made me want to kiss you, I'd hardly call that giving. And how do you even-... You know what? Nevermind" she said softly, he whole mood changing in a second or two. She walked up to Nathan until she was only a few centimeters away from him. Valem pressed her cheek against his and whispered a message in his ear. "If you dare stand up to me infront of the crew, I'll cut your man parts off in your sleep, got it?". Before he could reply, she pulled away and nodded the other rest of the crew before turning and walking back into her quarters. A large grin crept onto her face as she replayed the memory over and over in her head, "You never lose it, not ever".

A look of utter defeat crossed Nathan's face as the captain walked away. She didn't really make any good points nor even try but there was no denying she won. She wanted to thus she did. Nathan let out another sad little sigh as he bowed his head and let his arms fall comically to this side. "Glad we had this talk..." he said with a slight crack in his voice before she walked back into her cabin again. Geesh. Talk about mixed signals. Kissing him out of the blue one minute and threatening his manhood the next. That was the captain for you... "She's going to be the death of me," he muttered as he lifted his head again and reached up to adjust his headband. "Try counting out what's in the bag before you get mad at me again!" he shouted in a somewhat stern voice just loud enough for her to hear before Nair plopped down next to him from the netting.

โ€œYou know...She threatened my meat and potatoes earlier today too. I'm having trouble figuring out if she's running out of threats, or has an odd fetish. Smoke and a drink in the crow's nest tonight to christen the voyage? My treat."

"Hehe. If she's into that sort of thing, maybe I should consider myself lucky she only brutally assaulted my face this time. And please never use that metaphor ever again. You're going to ruin dinner for me. Again." He turned and pointed a finger in the musician's face. "And you better not be talking like that in front of the little pipsqueak. As much as I'd love to see him get a few mental scars, the captain seems real soft on the tyke and I wouldn't be surprised if those threats became very, very real." When he offered the drink and smoke, he nodded once with a growing smile on his lips. "Sounds like a plan. God knows we're going to need it to get these get rid of these mental scars." He said these last two words as he turned his head towards Valem's cabin, raising his voice a little to make sure she heard. He let out a little sigh as he looked back to Nair and put his hands in his pockets. "She is... something," he muttered, making especially sure to keep his voice down so only Nair could hear him. No point in another interrogation from the captain on the meaning of words.
