Introduction

Introduction

The continent of Noan-Zian is peaceful. It hasn’t always been so, but for now, at least, it is calm. It has been this way for at least a century, but that is no guarantee that things will last this way. In fact, the world is starting to shift, and no one knows the cause. They just know it has something to do with magic.

Magic is enabled by the mana given off by the six crystals around Noan-Zian. The types of Mana are; Lux, Terra, Pyro, Nix, Ventus, and Aqua. They form the elemental trios of Lux, Pyro and Ventus and Nix, Terra, and Aqua. Mages, when they first start, can only use spells in one element. Some never get past this, but the best of mages are able to learn spells of one or even two other elements from their triangle. The best of these best are apprenticed to the Archmages, mages who are able to use all six elements. There is one Archmage from each element, six in all, and they are universally respected as old and wise. These Archmages chose who will become their apprentice, and, when the time comes, pass down their powerful artifact to their apprentice, allowing the apprentice to utilize all 6 elements, and making him or her the newest Archmage. But these events aren’t seen as important to many people, seeing as most just want to live a normal life. And in these times, that isn’t too hard.

Unless, of course, you are a mercenary. Artur Normand leads a band of mercenaries called the Red Wolves, one of the few out there. The peace has made the army-for-hire business a little slow, but the group has been able to get by through hunting bandits and settling countryside squabbles. The group actually keeps growing, because for the first time in a century, the rumbles of disorder are starting again. Bandits have become more common. The weather has been acting strange. And, to top it off, Lor and Altyre, the two biggest cities on the continent, have begun to have arguments. What will happen next is anyone’s guess, but Artur and his band hope to be ready for it.

Locations

Remington Plains- Perhaps the term “plains” is a bit of a misnomer. The plains, while having quite a bit of flat land, are scattered with lone mountains wreathed in green. The plains produce enough crops and cattle for everyone on Noan-Zian. Much of the grain goes state to the major cities, but some also goes to Remington to be traded and sold to minor traders who sell it to the small towns around Noan-Zian.

The Aqua Lands- The lands in and around Dalnas are called the Aqua Lands for a good reason. The high concentration of Aqua mana causes storms to develop there on a weekly to daily basis. Showers are more common than sun, and strong thunderstorms aren’t all that rare either. Winter can bring snows and blizzards. The storms get blown over the Remington Plains, giving the crops there the necessary water to grow. Outside of being a major city and a gathering of Aqua mana, Dalnas is a major port, sending out and receiving shipping and cargo from all over the world.

The Lands of Light- The lands around Lor and the Lux Crystal are perpetually lit. As strange as it sounds, even when the sun is down, it is as bright as day. This is very disorienting to first time visitors (and even some residents) as it is very hard to tell what time of day it is. The perpetual light does allow for what the city has become known for; scholars and writers. For obvious reasons, the light makes reading and writing a much easier and all day task. The cities army is also well trained and disciplined, taking advantage of their perpetual day to work especially hard.

The Dark Lands- The lands around Altyre and the Nix Crystal are the exact opposite of those around Lor. It is always night there, with the stars in view at all times, and the moon visible when it would be night. It is also perpetually cold, both due to the lack of light and the fact that it is the southernmost point on Noan-Zian. Snow is common all seasons, although they usually will have light flurries as opposed to the snows and blizzards of Dalnas in winter. While such a bleak land might not seem to be very desirable place to live, it is still one of the largest cities on Noan-Zian, due mostly to the Nix Crystal, but also because of the large pine forests nearby. It is the biggest producer of pine wood on Noan-Zian, and the center of some of the bests carpenters and carvers out there.

The Great Desert – Far from the Aqua Lands, the Great Desert is a giant desolation and sun. Only a few creatures are able to survive the harsh environment of the desert. The only humans outside the city of Gestal to live in this desert are wandering nomads, moving from oasis to oasis. The desert is dotted with rock spires and other windblown forms, with the occasional rocky crag jutting up from the ground. Gestal is the only city in the desert wastes, and the best way to arrive there is by sea. Those who live there are mostly nomads who have settled down to trade with both the outside world and those who still wander the desert.

The Lux crystal is located in Lor, the City of Light.
The Pyro crystal’s location is unknown.
The Ventus Crystal is located on the Remington Plains.
The Nix Crystal is located in Altyre, the City of Darkness.
The Terra Crystal’s location is unknown.
The Aqua Crystal is located in Dalnas, the City of Water.

Magic

Image

For magic to be used, it needs to be vocalized. There is always some form of chant that is said that allows for a spell to be cast or magic to be used. One must retain their concentration while reciting the chant for the spell to be cast. Stronger spells need longer chants. Better spellcasters barely need chants to use their most basic spells. Many Archmages have mastered many spells so well that they hardly need to say anything to use those spells. Of course, that has much more to do with their age and experience than it does with their Archmage status. Anyone can get good enough to cast spells with short chants with enough practice. Also, one does not need to be a mage to use magic, although most people are unable to do magic at all. A rare few people are able magic in conjunction with other skills, such as swordsmanship, archery, crafting, and more. However, they still need to say a chant to use spells, and as such, frontline fighters often use weaker spells with the shortest possible chanting time. And, since they are not mages by trade, they are limited to only one element.

The Cast

The main group is a bunch of mercenaries under the command of my character. It can be as large as needed, with a mix of all sorts, from soldiers to mages to healers to archers. The youngest archmage is part of the group, having just been given his artifact from his master, the former Pyro archmage who died after giving it to him. You may also play as those who are currently not a part of the group, but get mixed up with them or join them (I will start with a recruiting stop in Remington) . I don’t really want people to play as the archmages, but you are more than welcome to have one of the apprentices. The archmage with the group needs to be over the age of 19 but under 26, seeing as he was an apprentice who became an archmage within the last year. Oh yeah, and for the Red Wolves, I need a second-in-command. Anyone who wants the position should tell me.

The Rules

  1. Listen to the GM. I know what I am doing, trust me. I am more than happy to listen to your plans and ideas, and I will do what I can to work them into the plot.
  2. No Mary Sues, alright? I put a good amount of effort into this idea, so something more than a dime-a-dozen character would be appreciated.
  3. No godmodding or metagaming. That just kills the fun, and it makes it hard for me, too.
  4. Have fun. There is no point in doing this if you don't enjoy it. If you think that it is getting boring, or that we are going to slow, or whatever, just call me out on it in the OOC or by PM. The last thing I want is to lose everyone because of my stupidity. I won't bite, I promise.

Bianca squealed with delight as the words of acceptance escaped Artur’s lips. Yes! She’ll finally be able to have some excitement and fun in her life! But wait...

”... And since you are a healer, you'll have to stay back from the main bits, alright?"”

“...Stay back?” Bianca blinked a few times. “You mean stay out of battle entirely?” She put her hands on her hips and gave Artur a bit of a glare. Not too evil a stare, but it definitely one that could pierce through even some of the toughest of personalities. “But, that was part of the point! I wanted to be right out there, venturing out bravely into the elements and into fights with you guys. Plus, there’s no way I can just sit back and watch while you guys are fighting.” She balled her hand into a fist and pounded her chest softly before saying the next part. “A good medic is always on the front lines, helping those who need it most! That’s what my tutor’s motto was. Or at least, she said that’s how she believed it should work. She maaaaay have been more referring to working in a medical ward, buuuuut I’ll take the liberty to applying it here, too.” She giggled a bit. “In any case, expect me to be right out there with you guys, but don’t be surprised if I end up hiding behind you when it comes down to it.”

Before Artur called out to his buddy, who was apparently named Will, it seemed, the other mage, the tall man in the cape, directed his attention to Bianca and spoke.

"If you'd like, maybe we could both demonstrate our spells on that so-called 'pervert' of yours, hmm?"

Bianca scratched the back of her head. “He seems to have already started completely ignoring cute, little young me, so maybe we should. Though...” She looked away for a moment. She didn’t want to admit she had no attack spells, especially not to the gentleman who saved her from the aforementioned 'pervert'. “...you’d have to do the hurting, and I’d do the healing.” She turned back and poked her tongue out, showing that she understood the joke. She went to introduce herself, but was interrupted by this Will person.

“Guys, this is William Aeilson, the only mage we used to have...”

Bianca immediately spoke up, incredibly chipper as always.

“Hi Will! Nice to meet you! I don’t think I’ve introduced myself to anybody besides Artur, so I figure now’s as good a time as any, since you guys were nice enough to let me in this adventure.” ‘Let her in’ was a very loose term. She sort of forced her way in. Sort of. “My name’s Bianca!” After murmuring a short chant under her breath that no one else could really hear, she spun around and waved her staff, hearts flying in all directions from it. “Pretty magical princess Bianca, if you will! Nice to meet you all.”

She smiled widely at everyone, so impressed with herself and her cute little flourishes. She loved doing that, even when she was by herself. But with all this attention was sending tingles of exhilaration down her spine that were hard to contain.

“Now, when do we all get started on these amazingly awesome adventures, anyways? Immediately, I would hope.” Man. She really was incredibly pushy.

"Heh, if it's luck you're after, you came to the wrong place. These damn plainsman have been doing the same thing for generations, don't expect much from them." Hallik kicked the legs of his stool in disgust. "There be no luck in this forsaken town." He looked at his fellow waster, it brought back sweet memories.

He looked back towards the twit he had just left, Artur was still talking to her, and he was inviting even more people over, frilly hearts flying around them. "She's no good, Artur! Leave it!" He shouted. He turned his attention back the waster. "So, what news of the sand do you have. Anything interesting? Or is it the same as always?"

“Guys, this is William Aeilson, the only mage we used to have...”

"Really? Well, it will be an honour to travel alongside you lot, I'm sure," Nicolas said, taking a good look at the newcomer to the conversation. Judging by the way things were going, it seemed that his travels with these Red Wolves would prove to be quite enjoyable. However, a certain someone had a very different opinion.

"She's no good, Artur! Leave it!"

Rolling his eyes in contempt, he muttered "After a few battles I wager he'll be singing a completely different tune." The mage leaned against the nearest wall, where he would remain until either further orders were given or he got bored.

Artur sighed, then turned to Hallik. "Hallik, I think you are forgetting something. As the leader, I do reserve the right to do what is best for the group. And if I think that signing this girl is a good idea, I will do it. Got it?" What was it with everyone trying to second guess him or influence him somehow. It was getting real old real fast. Turning back to Bianca, he answered, "Well, the 'adventures' will start as soon as I can get everyone here together. Hallik, come with me over to our table, we have work." He motioned for the others to follow him over to the table he had been sitting at so recently. He motioned again for them all to sit down and be a little quite. He told them, "What we are going to do is simple; we will hunt bandits out on the road. They should be pretty easy targets, compared to some of the others I have dealt with. There should be rewards out on them, so we can collect there. We will split the money evenly. Everyone understand?"

“Hunt bandits on the roadway, huh?” Bianca smiled smugly, then sat back in her seat. “I get it. This group doesn’t have the money to go out on an adventure just yet, so we’re collecting enough so that we can go on an adventure soon, right?” She giggled. “Y’know, if I’d of known I was going to get myself in the pauper adventuring party, I would’ve taken the liberty of asking my parents for some extra gold. But alas, I’m too far away to do that now.” Of course, she failed to mention the other reason that she couldn’t ask her parents, which included the two facts that she had run away and that her parents would ground her for a year if they found her. No one had to know, though.

“Still, I suppose it’ll be good practice for us,” she said. She found a spare coin on the table and began nonchalantly flipping it around in her hand as she leaned back in her chair. “I imagine you lot will need a lot of fighting practice together to coordinate correctly. At least, that’s the impression I get.” She gave another smug smile. “I’ll just be in the back, casting my support, keeping an eye out for you folks. Somebody’s got to take care of all those wounds you sustain during and after battle, and who else but the amazing magical princess Bianca?” She chuckled before going back to her coin flipping.

“So, how long are we gonna be at this boring bandit hunting stuff, anyways? ‘cause the sooner we get all this money grabbing done and over with, the sooner we can go on our grand adventure, right?” Her eyes lit up again. “Ooooohhh, tell me it won’t be too long! There’s gatta be more out there beyond just this boring old town. Like dragons and fair maiden, and all sorts of fantastic landscapes and creatures...” She made a contented, almost love-sick sounding sigh as she continued on her thoughts, lost quite easily in them.

Neil looked up as he saw Artur returning to the table with three other people. From the look of it, all mages judging from two staffs and Will. They sat down at the table and Artur explained what they were going to be doing for their next job. Neil listened intently until a metallic ring caught his ear. As this little squirt grabbed one of his coins from the table and started flipping it, spewing some nonsense about an adventure. He watched the coin for a few flips then lashed out his hand to grab the coin out of midair. He looked back away from her to feel slightly less guilty about stealing money from a kid, so instead he looked over at Artur.

"Cute kid, she yours?" he said dryly.

The first ever mission Nicholas and the new recruits would have as part of the Red Wolves wasn't the most glorious of tasks. Not that he was complaining. He stared at Bianca, wondering if she actually knew that even this little mission would involve killing. Then again, she wasn't going to be out on the front lines like he was.

As soon as the mage saw Neil snatched the coin Bianca had previously been tossing in the air, he stood up from his seat at the table. The sight reminded him of all the times he'd been mugged by bandits and other assorted scoundrels, particularly during the first few months of his travels. "Do that again and you shall run the risk of incurring my wrath. Assuming you have a functioning brain I'd suggest giving the coin back within the next sixty seconds or you will regret it, believe me." Having delivered this ultimatum, Nicholas stood glaring at the man until he made up his mind, disgusted at the way the girl was being treated.

Bianca immediately went into pouty mode as soon as the coin she was playing with was taken away from her, putting the saddest looking scowl on her face that she could. Wait...was it the saddest or the cutest? Well, either way, she made sure to look as unhappy as possible while remaining as cute as possible.

“No, I’m not Artur’s kid,” Bianca replied for him. “I’m the member of a noble family, but I belong to no one. If anything, a peasant like you should belong to me!”

She sighed, harrumphed, and crossed her arms, turning her head to the side to try to generate some sympathy. And it seemed her ploy worked. The caped man stood up before Artur or the second mean man could even respond in full.

”Do that again and you shall run the risk of incurring my wrath...” The man stated, causing Bianca’s head to turn. Her jaw nearly dropped when she heard him threaten mean man number two, asking him to return the coin or suffer the consequences. His voice was so commanding, so authoritative. It scared her just a bit to see him like that. Still, she neither voiced her surprise nor showed it in her expression. Instead, she simply leaned over the table and snatched the coin back out from the second mean man’s hand, who was assumedly stunned by the caped man's gesture. She smiled at him afterwards, giggling a bit at him before turning to the caped man.

“Thanks for the help, but, you know, I think I can take care of myself,” She stated. “I might be cute and pretty and sweet and all, but I’m not the damsel in distress that most girls are.”

Then, suddenly, she had a thought. An almost devilishly evil though.

“However...” A sly grin crossed her face. “...since you’re so willing to stand up for me, maybe you should become an honorary servant of mine. Lord knows you’d be a better one than all the other incompetent ones I had before. And that goes for all of you,” She waved her hand at the rest. “You should all become my honorary servants. I imagine the rest of you are competent enough. Hehe...”

She chuckled to herself and went back to flipping her coin, enjoying her little joke. No, she certainly wasn't expecting any of them to agree to such a ridiculous gesture. She just thought it’d be funny to see what kind of response it would elicit from these folks. They all seemed rather...independent and ‘powerful’ people. The kind that’d get indignant at her statement, which is exactly what she was expecting.

Niel opened his hand as the other man talked. Geez, what was this guy's problem? It was HIS coin to begin with, she just snatched it off of the table! But nevertheless he just let his hand remain open so the girl snatched to coin back. And then, when she did, he just leaned back in hie chair. Geez this guy was too uptight. Didn't even know his name and already making death threats, and insulting ones at that. Well, there were two ways to deal with guys like that, play their game, ignoring them and listening to their damned commands, or just have fun with them. And unfortunately for this guy, Niel liked having fun much more than listening to orders.

Of course, he was just as surprised as miss high and mighty started talking. Just slightly less insulting to him. Apparently charm wasn't on his side today. Well, she was way to young right now and way too much of a little princess for him to waste any time charming her anyways. He was a shameless flirt, but he wasn't a pedophile.

So instead, he turned back to the man who apparently liked death threats and smiled at him. Stretching out his arms and then placing his hands behind his head. "Still got about fourty seconds, eh? Guess it ain't gruel glogging up the works up there, thanks for testing that for me." he said smiling at him "By the way, I'm Niel." he added intended both for the princess over ther and her knight in shining armour... or in her vision her humble slave.

Hearing the leader of these mercenaries beckon to "Hallik," Ejin gestured towards him to let him know it was okay to drop the conversation (purely for politeness). But inside he was silently cursing his poor timing. If he had arrived just a bit earlier, he could have already been affiliated with the man and, therefore, closer to joining their group. But no matter. He would find a way in one way or another.

He scooted closer to the group slowly, listening in to what appeared to be shenanigans and waiting for an opportunity to either pipe up when he had an opportunity or follow the group to observe their demeanor and friendliness... of ccourse, he knew if he wanted in he couldn't remain hidden too long or they would become suspicious of something. He didn't want to damage a sense of trust before it existed. So he sat, and waited, at a table near the party of strange, strange people.

"Hallik, I think you are forgetting something. As the leader, I do reserve the right to do what is best for the group...

Hallik heard from behind him. It was Artur, of course it would be.

"Hallik, come with me over to our table, we have work."

It was Artur again, at a sign from the gentleman he was chatting with, Hallik made his over to his party, still leaning heavily on his staff, one hand reaching into his hood, and tightening the scarf over the bottom half of his face. He took off his large white cloak as he lowered himself to the table, propping his staff between his knees and on his shoulder.

"No need to be testy, it's well within a subordinate's place to criticize and advise, you will do well to remember it." His speech was slightly muffled by his tight scarf, but there was no need to show off his scar, it bothered him. Large, white, and pink, it stretched down his jawline, the tip of it peeking out above the scarf, he couldn't do anything about that.

He sat back, and watched the proceedings, threats, theives, whatever. Internal dissention would be the life of this band in his opinion, and he'll fuel it on as much as possble.

"Oh, I am well aware of that Hallik. You are right, you are more than welcome to tell me what you think. I just wanted to make sure that you know that sometimes things are better left to oneself. It is not good business to be insulting people who might be joining us or offering a job. And speaking of jobs, i will fill you all in." He pulled a map out of a bag he had nearby and laid it out on the circular table. He made sure that everyone in the group could see it. He brought out a pointer he used for such situations when there were things to point out on the map. He pointed to a cluster of three mountains a few miles to the west. "Alright guys, this is where I have heard the worst of the bandits are holed up. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to sneak up on them, so we will just have to try and do what we can. Once we are there, we can see about getting some tactical advantage, but there is no way I see to get a strategic edge. Get ready ASAP. We leave in an hour. We have some ground to cover. Understood? Then dismissed. Meet me by the west gate in an hour."

Bianca giggled again as Neil introduced himself to them, surprised that his boorish attitude and snarky sarcasm was seemingly gone from when he took the coin from her. She wondered if it was mister cape’s threat that made him back down, but honestly didn’t think so. Not entirely, anyways.

“Heeeey, Neil. You don’t sound like such a bad guy after all. Even though it was mean to snatch that coin from me without asking first. If you wanted it so badly, I would’ve given it to you. Honest.” She wasn’t being entirely honest. Though her nickname of ‘mean man number two’ was now gone, thankfully for Neil. Hallik would still be ‘mean man’ or ‘Hat Lick’, though, as he hadn’t shown any change in attitude thus far. Nor had he introduced himself. Nor Bianca really been thinking of 'better' nicknames.

“Anyways, just in case you haven’t heard me the multiple times I’ve said it, I’m Bianca!” She muttered a few words and snapped her fingers in front of her face, and a small heart appeared to brighten up her expression and her smile. “A pleasure to meet you, mister Neil.”

Before she got a chance to ask mister cape what his name was, Artur spoke up, giving the group direction. It seemed that he’d have to continue going as mister cape for a while longer.

“…Get ready ASAP. We leave in an hour. We have some ground to cover. Understood? Then dismissed. Meet me by the west gate in an hour.”

Bianca’s heart skipped a beat as Artur doled out his orders. Was it because she was excited that her first adventure was starting so soon? Or was it due to her trepidation about going off nearly immediately? She tried to shrug it off for the moment, figuring she’d discover which it was when the time finally came. In her mind, however, she was fairly sure it was excitement. Why, that’s the whole reason she came out here, wasn’t it?

“An hour, you say?” Bianca said, raising an eyebrow. “Well, that gives us just enough time to make a few stops around town before we head on out. And considering I’ve never been here before, which one of you servants wants to show me around town and let me see the sights, hmm?” She eyed the group as a whole, carefully looking at each one of them. “...Though I reserve the right to refuse some folks. Like Hat Lick over there.” She giggled, the nickname starting to grow on her as she used it more often.

“…Get ready ASAP. We leave in an hour. We have some ground to cover. Understood? Then dismissed. Meet me by the west gate in an hour.”

Nicholas gave a curt nod in acknowledgement. There wasn't anything that required his attention for now, so all he could actually do was just loiter around the west gate until it was time for the mission. Sadly, that idea didn't appeal to the mage, even though it meant staying away from the crowds.

“Well, that gives us just enough time to make a few stops around town before we head on out. And considering I’ve never been here before, which one of you servants wants to show me around town and let me see the sights, hmm?”

Apparently, Bianca had a few other ideas, not to mention that she had the gall to address them all as 'servants'. Without a word he left the table and made his way in the direction of the gate.

“They’re late…” Korin mumbled to himself, folding his arms as he watched out at the edge of the encampment, carefully surveying the road for any sign of Lindell and Ferma. Although he was certain it was just the two taking their time as usual, it often concerned him whenever anyone left the encampment. Being mercenaries meant that they had made a lot of enemies over the years, and no doubt bandits would revel in the chance to capture or murder Korin’s compatriots simply to make revenge.

Of course, the two were more than capable of looking after themselves, but if a large force prepared a surprise ambush…

“Relax boss. They do this every time, so why should today be any different?” Slipping out of the shadows, Juke took up a position next to Korin, jostling him by the shoulder in a jovial manner. “Get too worked up, and a sinister fellow like myself might just take your head.”

“I have no need to worry for my own safety. Those two however…” Korin stopped short, before speaking again. “I see your point though. Still, watch duty is a necessity, and I’m quite prepared to bare that burden myself.”

Juke shrugged, striding past Korin in the direction of Remington. “Suit yourself, boss man. I’m just going to make a li’l visit into town.”

Korin nodded. “If you see Lindell –“

“Yes, yes. I’ll let them know their mother’s waiting anxiously.”

Korin didn’t change his stern expression as he watched the Tengu slowly recede into the distance, before disappearing entirely from sight.

******************************************************************************************

“Ugh, Lin, you do this every time! It’s so unprofessional!” Ferma began dragging Lindell over her shoulder, helping the archer along. She’d gotten just a bit too tipsy with the drinks she’d been having, and now little Miss Clerven was forced to carry both her and all the items they’d purchased.

“Whatta yoo talkin’ ‘bout Feeeeerrrrmmmmmaaa?” Lindell noogied the pikeman again, causing more whining and complaining from Ferma as she was forced to put up with it. Of course, Lindell wasn’t QUITE that drunk, but she was the kind to act more inebriated then she actually was, kind of like some sort of game for her.

Sauntering through the streets, drawing a number of stares, Ferma gave another long, embarrassed sigh. Sometimes it was hard to tell who the adult was and who the child was. None of that really mattered now though – they were almost at the town gate, and then it was just a brisk walk back to the base…

Artea whistled in a joyful manner, with each step making a jolly jump for she had the catch of the day. Though not something you catch by tossing a fishing line in a river and wait for meat to swim by. No, this was loot that was more... worthwhile. With a gleeful expression the female thief spun a gold sparkling necklace around her index finger, glaring back at the sound of a male yelling out that his chest of precious accessories had been emptied and left in the dust. The ones passing by Atea would see her giving a teasing wink and sticking out her tongue when the man yelled:

"If I find the culprit I will make them wish they'd never robbed me from me newest works!"

Stop the ranting old man, it's not like I found a bag of shines worth thousands of coin. I just took a necklace, hence you should've went and bought a smaller chest instead of one that stands out and pokes the thief out of every greedy being. Her thoughts wondered of for a few seconds, and with her thoughts stopping at a more serious point. Her gleeful expression swapped with that of a confused one, realising she should've been back to meet up with Artur like a century ago, and with a slight face palming motion Artea shook her head, judging herself once more unworthy of that so called vice captain position she was offered. Why she took on the offer was a riddle only solvable by who knows what, and this neglection of duty did show there was no logical reason the female had chosen to become the Red Wolves second in command.

"Well, that just means that this is one of those days I will get a lecture for not only having turned on my unmanageable thieving habit, but for lacking a sense of duty as well." She paused, giving a deep sigh as she thought about having to go through all that. Though, it wouldn't be the first time she got a bit of parenting from Artur. As Vice Captain of the Mercenary guild, she should be present at all times in case any new recruits or any new missions are to be discussed. "Maybe I can soothe him by offering the necklace I just stole as a token of apology?" With a large frown she rejected that idea, it would only give the Red Wolves leader more reason the lecture his Vice Captain.

Aye, with good luck comes bad luck. Still, the road was a long one, and procrastination was a good thing in situations like this. "That and this road has some interesting travellers to... examine." Or pickpocketing was the exact term.

The female thief's serious expression swapped back to her gleeful one, glaring back as a figure approached her. Well, not exactly approached, the figure just travelled the dirt road like anyone else. After having had a closer look at the figure, Artea stepped aside, watching intently as the figure, who revealed to be a mage passed by. Judging from his appearance, he could be a wealthy man. Of course, those who have mastered the mystical powers of magic would prove to become famous. And with fame comes riches, or was it knowledge? With a small shrug to end the argument, Artea silently shuffled behind the still unaware traveller.

Although her thoughts were set on pickpocketing money, she could already tell this fellow wasn't going to be carrying much. But hey, some money is always better then having no money at all. And with her mind finally made up to turn the thoughts into action, her right hand smoothly floated near the male's pockets. And with a quick retraction of her arm she smiled gleefully as in her hands she carried a small pouch, though the amount was just as she expected it the be, little to none. "Well, never look a gifted horse in the mouth, no?"

Her free hand immediately covering her mouth, did she just say that out loud? If so, then it would be her cue to get into hiding position, but even if she managed to find that supposed hiding spot, the male would already have turned around and stopped her... And just when I though bad luck would rain down upon me when I met up with Artur... With a soft sigh, Artea tossed the coin pouch in the air, catching it with her hand and once more throwing the sack as she continued the same motion over and over. "Er, I suppose this worthless sack of nothingness belongs to you?" With the gleeful expression still glued on her face, the female thief awaited the strangers reply.

Nicholas stood to one side of the street, watching the crowd pass by. There was absolutely nothing to pass the time with asides from watching people. The only thing of noteworthy interest was someone who claimed to have had their jewellery stolen. The fool should have paid more attention to his belongings.

"Well, never look a gifted horse in the mouth, no?"

He froze momentarily before quickly turning around just in time to see a blonde woman. Who was holding his coin pouch. The nerve of her to steal from a mage. He treated her to a cold, steely glare before saying "If I were you I'd give that back. Preferably now."

"Er, I suppose this worthless sack of nothingness belongs to you?"

Despite his threatening, Nicholas couldn't help but chuckle at the woman's remark. "'Worthless Sack of Nothingness', eh? That's a good one. I should write that one down later on... But I'd recommend giving said pouch back to me before I incinerate you, and I'd really hate to do that, especially to such a pretty face." He kept his eyes on her at all times just to make sure she didn't try anything regrettable.

“…Get ready ASAP. We leave in an hour. We have some ground to cover. Understood? Then dismissed. Meet me by the west gate in an hour.

"Are we?" Hallik cackled behind his scarf. He pulled himself up his staff, and draped the hood of his cloak over the cloth top. He shuffled to the door, thumping his staff with each step. An hour, to kill...

The streets were still crowded, perfect place for pickpockets, could just fade into the crowd.

And lo and behold, "Well, never look a gifted horse in the mouth, no?"

It was Artea, who else would it be except the vice of the company? She knew the risks, let her do what she wanted.

...But I'd recommend giving said pouch back to me before I incinerate you...

Hallik made his way over, shuffling up to the side, the victim was none other than one of the new recruits. Perfect. "Will you now?" He huffed, gritting his teeth against a grin. "Is that what a wizards does when he gets the hots, eh? Or are you talking about something else?" The inuendo was clear.

He leaned to Artea and whispered in her ear, quiet so no one could hear, "Meet the new recruit, Nelson or whatever. Mage." He stepped back again, chewing his scarf.

Artea could only keep her gleeful expression when the mage introduced her to what for him would be a serious and cold stare. "Now? But I was just going to add the little amount of money you have in this pouch to mine..." The female thief slapped a leather pouch that hang beside her left hip, if one had good hearing the sack made a clinging sound, the sound of coins softly bumping into each other. Though, if that was collected in a legal way, that would remain questionable of course. Some of it was though, mercenary jobs, eh?

"Will you now?"

A vague but familiar voice placed a halt on the mage's threats, it was none other then the mysterious, cloaked Hallik. Artea didn't know much about him, but with all that hiding behind a hood and a scarf, she figured there wasn't much that the female thief would collect from him anyway. She chuckled softly at the cloaked male's remark, though had no time to react as it with the remark came the introduction that the vice Captain just stole from a fellow Red Wolf. "My, Nelson you say?" Artea repeated the name, it did not match the personage and she curiously looked at Hallik before taking a step closer to the mage.

"Well, here's your worthless sack of nothingness. Though I'd like it to have a large amount of money in it the next time I attempt at pickpocketing you." With a teasing wink she threw the sack back to its owner. "I think introductions are in order then. Artea Delorian, fellow member of the Red Wolves." A simple two fingered salute would do for a greeting, and Artea rolled her crystal blue eyes to Hallik, wondering why these two were on the road without their precious leader...

"Hallik," The female thief spoke, throwing some strings of blond hair behind her ears. "do tell me you are here for a simple stroll, I'd hate to hear the words 'Artur is looking for you.' from your mouth." Her gleeful expression once more traded places with her serious one, folding her arms as she waited for the cloaked man's response.

Niel yawned as most of their group stood up to go explore the town, and didn't make any motion to move. Instead he stayed right where he was, seated at the table with Artur and Bianca, who had gotten no offers from the others to show her around. He looked over at princess and smirked "You seemed to have missed your grand tour. Run along now if'n you want to catch them. I ain't going anywhere."

Niel rocked his chair slightly as he let himself listen to the buzz of the tavern. So now they had three mages, the prickly pyro mage, William, and Bianca. This was turning out to be quite a healthy company in of itself. They had what, 6 or 7 people? He had been in companies with less before. They had the three mages for long ranged combat and support and himself, Halik, Artur, and Artea for frontline.

Although speaking of Artea, he wondered where she had ran off to. apparently artur had not expected her back for a while otherwise he wouldn't have briefed them without her. He turned to Artur and posed his question. "Did the ever beautiful vice captain decide not to grace us with her presence on this mission?" he said with his voice getting more and more exagurated as the sentence went on.

Typical. The robed guy hadn't even bothered to remember his name. Well, at least he got his money back, and that's all that mattered.

"The name's Nicholas, by the way," he said as he walked away from them. If he couldn't wait at the rendezvous point in peace then he would just have to make do with randomly wandering around the city. On the way he decided to stop by the tavern just in case Artur was wondering where his subordinate, Artea, had gone. As the mage passed by their table, he said "In case you're looking for one Artea Delorian, I just met her. She tried to take the few coins I had, but she was kind enough to give them back. Also, that Hallik person's with her now, if that's good news or not."

Taking one last look over the table, Nicholas added "Well, if that's everything then I'll be going now. I'll meet you at the rendezvous point." He walked away after saying those words, wondering how the hell he was going to be able to kill time until the mission started...

“Hmph. It seems no one wants to be graced with my company. Well, fine. I see how it is.” Bianca pouted a bit more, turning her head and sighing. She looked around the room a bit before Neil made a response back to her.

”You seemed to have missed your grand tour. Run along now if’n you want to catch them. I ain’t going anywhere.”

“What, you mean force my company on them?” Bianca contemplated this thought as if she had never done such a thing before. Of course, as they all already knew, that certainly wasn’t true. At all. She put a finger to her cheek and leaned on it as she gave it some real, hard thought.

“Well, I suppose if neither of you are going anywhere, and are unwilling to show me around, then I’d at least best be off. “ She stood up from her chair, ambiguously answering their question as she gestured at them. “After all, I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself, even if I’m out there in the big, bad, mean town all by myself.” A slight shiver went down her spine, but she shrugged it off and headed out, waving to her companions.

“Sayonara! See you in an hour,” she called out behind her before she headed out the door.

Of course, it didn’t take long for Bianca to see any sort of action. Immediately she stumbled back upon the caped man. To her, it seemed like there was some weird looking girl trying to...well, in her mind, it looked like she was trying to feel him up. Kind of odd, that. Usually, from what she was told, it was supposed to be the other way around. She would’ve yelled something earlier if not for the caped man turning around and noticing the gesture. He seemed rather fine with it at first, but once Bianca got close enough to hear him, he said something a bit more along the lines of another threat.

”...back to me before I incinerate you...” She heard him say. Sheesh...what was with this guy and burning people alive? Either he really liked the smell of burning, or he just didn’t have any sort of imagination with his magic. At least little Bianca could do hearts and stars and crescent moons and all sorts of things. She was very diverse, for certain. Minus the fact that she couldn’t cast any attack spells. She pushed that thought out of her mind once again, and started to go to step in. However, out of nowhere, Bianca’s favourite person arrived, causing her to make an immediate about face and return the direction she came.

The little magical girl continued to wander aimlessly, unable to really find anything that she fancied in any way, shape, or form. This town seemed boring, with no real interesting architecture for her to explore or places for her to get in trouble. She sighed as she passed the tavern again, glad to no longer be completely lost. She stared at the door for a moment before she noticed the caped man emerge once more. Smiling, she decided to make good on Neil’s suggestion.

“Hey! Mister caped man! Over here!” Bianca said, waving her arms before rushing over to him, assuming he stayed relatively close. “Hey! You're the first one I've seen around," She lied. "Whatchya doin’?” She asked him, somewhat politely, but more playfully than anything. “You look just as lost as I am, to be honest,” she said after a few moments, giggling. “Glad I’m not the only one. Hehe...”

As his team was dispersing, Artur stretched out and stood as well. While they were off doing there thing, he had to prepare for the team to move out. Grabbing his pack, he moved out quickly, only pausing to get out a pouch of gold coins. From there, he moved on down the road, heading to the cartographer's. His map of the region was outdated, and since they were heading out into the plains, a good map was a requirement. Not to mention the tactical advantage a good map provided. It made things easier if you knew the land you were going to fight in. It made things a lot easier. Unfortunately, the best map costed quite a bit. Comparing prices at a different cartographer did not help, either, so Artur was forced to spend a good deal on that single map. And he still needed money, anyway; he needed to get some horses.

Horses were not cheap. At all. Normally, he wouldn't even consider even renting a horse because of the exorbitant prices that came with them. Seriously, it was awful. Artur had spent literally no money on personal pleasures for the past 6 months to save money. It had been intended to go toward the headquarters to finish it off, but now that couldn't be the only thing it had to be used for. Hopefully, there would be enough left over to finish his little project. But for now, he needed horses.

Why horses? Well, the little band he had been leading had just gotten considerably larger in one go. He had been considering getting horses for awhile now, but the new adds had made him make up his mind. Horses could be used for any number of things, mainly packs and gear. Of course, there was always the option of fighting mounted, something that he actually knew how to do (surprisingly few civilians knew how to). Fighting mounted gives numerous advantages, especially speed, but the first thing these horses would carry would be the gear. That would lighten the load off his men (and women) and make them fresher to start the next engagement. And in battle, fatigue was as deadly as any sword edge.

After haggling down the price of a trio of horses (to a price that still made him wince), he took them by the reigns and led them to the city gate he had told everyone about. There was still a good amount of time for his squad to form up, but he had to be the first here and he was done with everything he had planned to do anyway. Sitting down in a shaded corner, back against the city wall, he sprawled out the map of the region, especially that mountain area, and started to look it over intently. He had to memorize it before they got there. He had to know it at least as well as the enemy did to put them on even ground. Not knowing could put his team in danger. And there was no reason to add danger that didn't need to be there...

Ejin had been listening closely as the group organized and disbanded, taking their plans into mind. So, they were hunting bandits in the mountains. How... ordinary. But anything he could do to gain some reputation around here he'd do. He took another sip from his ale, barely choking it down before he passed it to an extremely drunken man at the bar, who accepted it without asking. After most of them had left the bar Ejin decided to exit the tavern. He had no idea where an inn was, but that wouldn't matter until later.

After barely squirming his way past a few mercenaries who'd begun to clog up the door of the tavern, mumbling "Excuse me"'s as he did so, Ejin made off for the stables. Before he entered, though, he saw the captain of the group leaving with a chunk of horses in his wake. That was a good sign... they must have a decent amount of money to afford those. That meant they must do many jobs around here. After the man had gone out of earshot Ejin entered the stable.
-----------
As he left, he couldn't help but think Sold out? How is that possible! Isn't this a farming town? Apparently, those horses were the last ones left at this stable. I'll just have to go on without one, then. He walked to the city gate, pulling out his own map of the area. He had no idea if it was outdated, but he didn't care. He walked into the clearing close to the gate, tapping the area the mercenary had pointed out earlier. He glanced at the roads and tried to find which direction to go, as he was used to navigating the generally straightforward paths of the desert compared to the branching, sprawling paths of the plains.

“Heh, look at those two broads. This should be a cinch…”

“You sure? That girl looks like she’s got some kind of glaive…”

“Come on, it’s one kid, and she’s having to carry that drunken chickadee – There’s not gonna be a better opportunity then this!”

The two bandits continued to bicker between themselves amongst the bushes on the road, watching Ferma and Lindell making their way from Remington. Being an early scout for the rest of the band, it was their job to wait for prime targets, then report back to the ambush in time to mug, murder and steal everything from the random passerby. For them, two lone females, even with weapons, were too ripe a target to ignore, especially with all the gear and supplies they were carrying from the market. Finally settling on the attack, the two split up to inform the rest of the party of the plan…

*************************************************************************************

“Lindell… You’re getting heavy…-Ow!” Ferma yelped as she was slapped over the back of the head.

“Just what are you trying to say about me? I am not fat!” Lindell responded indignantly, pouting a bit.

“That’s not what I meant stupid!” Ferma retorted hotly. She had it well within her rights to dump the ungrateful ‘leader’. Honestly, why did Korin ever leave her in charge at all?

Lindell seemed poised to respond with another insult before she stopped herself, eyes narrowing as she removed herself from Ferma’s shoulder.

“Get down.”

“Wha-Hey!” Ferma cried out in alarm as she was roughly shoved to the dirt, Lindell kneeling next to her as she avoided the whizzing arrow zipping past, drawing her own bow and quickly pivoting to the spot, releasing an arrow into the foliage; the sharp cry that filled the air revealing that she’d hit her mark. Eyes darting back and forth as she heard the snapping of trees in the underbrush, it was clear they were surrounded on both sides, and the trap was quickly being sprung.

Placing her hand over Ferma’s eyes, she began whispering the words of a spell to herself. “Gracious light, shine and avert the gaze of those that seek to harm us.”

Shielding herself with her free arm, Lindell opened her clenched fist, a brilliant radiant glow formed in her hand, bright white light streaking out in all directions just as the bandits leapt from the bushes. Cries of surprise and pain filled the air as many dropped their weapons, rubbing their eyes as they were blinded by the drastic change in lighting. From town, an odd, faint glow would be seen down the path to Bree…

“Come on Ferma!” Pulling the girl to her feet, Ferma didn’t have much time to take in the scene as she was dragged by Lindell down the path, the archer wanting to put as much distance between the thieves and them as possible.

‘Come on, don’t follow us. If you value your lives, just turn back…’

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

This is no excuse, but I am afraid that college work had caught up to me awhile back, and I really haven't had the chance to do anything. It is, of course, completely and totally my fault that this died, and I apologize to everyone who was waiting on me. I think that this one is dead, since we had already lost about half the people before Archlkan understandably said he was leaving. I really have no excuses. Sorry to let you all down. I think this one is officially dead. Who knows, maybe someday I will remake it when I have more time to play with, but that probably won't be for a good long while.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

@Archklan: I think that's perfectly understandable and reasonable, as there's been no real sign of Chari for quite some time, even if we are all waiting on a post. Suffice to say, if it does start up again, it'll be tough without you, but I have my doubts that will occur. Still, it's very respectful of you to put your thoughts in here like this. I'd say I was leaving as well, but I'll keep an eye out a little bit longer for any progress.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

So, yeah. Lightning posted. (Which wasn't what I meant with that whole poking business.) I was actually wondering if Chari was going to post sooner or later. To me, it appears pretty much abandoned by a large majority. (Not blaming people here, blame busy lives. lol.)

I'm rambling, I am just saying that I am losing interest in this RP. Mainly because it is going fairly... slow. Is there anything I am missing here? Is Chari busy with something? I don't know! Whatever the reason for his absence, I still think he could've mentioned something about being busy, no?

Wow, I am trying my best not make y'all hate me. lol. But, Artea is abandoning her position and leaves the team. T'was a good time with everyone here, but I don't see my interest returning any time soon.

Once again, apologies for any inconvenience and whatnot.

Cheers,

Archlkan

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Alright, poke taken. (See what I did there?.. That was awful, I am sorry )

I will go and start working out a post

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

I'd probably say; *Poke with a stick*

But, I really don't know if I'll get filled with disappointment, or fear from a sudden pain-scream.

Whatever the case, I think you get my point. Is this going to roll again, soon?

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

I guess I could post if you want me to?

Niel really doesn't have anything to do that would be of any concequence right now, so it would be a rather meaningless post. But I could make one if absolutely necessary.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

If you've got something to say, I'd say go for it. I'm waiting on the group to leave before moving on to my next post, rather than just having a brief bit about goodbyes and whatnot.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Is anyone besides Arch and digs gonna post or should I just go?

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

@Arch: I wouldn't feel too bad, dude. After all, this thing seems to be in a world of hurt otherwise. =P

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

*Feels bad for not posting*

I was actually waiting until some more people had posted before I did. (Sorry D:)

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Haha. I'm sure we can all sympathize with that. Happened to me more than once.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Finally posted. Feel free to point out the "promised deadline" and the shortness of the post, but some damnable last-minute stuff cropped up, and by the time I got to typing my brain was just about ready to keel over and/or play computer games. Stupid brain. XD

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

I know I haven't started on a post yet, but I promise I'll start one tomorrow morning. Just letting you know that I'm not dead yet.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Yes, glad to have this rolling again, and to have some others on board too. Sorry that I fell off of the face of the earth for a while... Yeah

Anyway. ORANGE!

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

The new theme makes you think of oranges? My first thoughts were along the lines of "GAAH! IT'S FRYING MY RETINAS!!!"

Just thought I'd let you know that. Cheerio! XD

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

And my post is up. not the best, but hey, it's a steady roll back into things, and it's not like I'm heading off with you guys to hunt bandits. I must say, I think i preferred the blue tint, though this new theme does have a citrus-like charm that is refreshing... Mmm, tangy...

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

1: I fully agree. Looks far more welcoming then that blue tint.

2: No doubt, but it is definitely fun.

3: I posted, perhaps a bit short. But it's there. Glad that we are giving this thing another roll. :3

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

First, I really like the color scheme, temporary as it may be.

Second, minecraft is definitely a time waster.

Third... Well, I will shut up and get to work.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Woosh! Moving things forward, I like that. Also, that is why I rarely play games. As soon as I start playing one, I get addicted and can't stop until I grow bored of it. Luckily, there is still MineCraft. (:3)

But. Yeah, I'll be ready to post whenever you have skipped to the next day Chari.

Re: [OOC] Legendia Crystallinus

Huzzah that this thing is still alive. As I said in my last OOC post, I didn't feel the need to put each of my characters to bed, and wouldn't post til morning unless someone felt the need to interact with them. Glad to hear the ball will be rolling again soon, especially since I'm almost free from the mountain of assignments. But yeah, no more posts for me, I'm happy for you to push things forward, Chari.
