Axel took a swig of his beer and turned to look at Rachel. "Couldn't tell you, Rach," he sighed. He wasn't sure if anyone was alive within a hundred mile radius of them. "Doesn't it feel like we're kids again? Going on a road-trip without parent consent. Man, those were the good days." He looked up into the sky and could see vultures soaring above. Wouldn't it be nice to be a bird, he thought. No wondering if you'd be alive the next day.

Rachel finished her sandwich. "It's so weird," she said. "We go from having a big family, great jobs, the American Dream, to nothing. I haven't even thought about it very much. I can't cry over it. I feel like it's not right to have emotions, when so many people are-"

Axel cut her off. "Don't get sappy, Rachel. This isn't the time or place." He stood, holding out his hand to help her up. She hopped back in the car while he folded the blanket. Then they were driving again. They didn't know where, or why. Just that they would need to find a place before dark.

"Am I... Am I five years old again? Are you treating me like a five year old because I said I would kill someone? Is that it? Or is it the pigtails because I'm sure as hell I can look at movies without causing a catastrophe, okay?" Storm said, pretty annoyed by Jude's question. As soon as Will pulled out his book though, Storm's attention seemed to change pretty quick. "Aye Willy, what's in the book lad?" Storm said, putting on an Irish accent with a big smile.

"It's just a journal I keep. Makes me feel better to write stuff down." Will replied, tossing the book in the glove compartment and closing it shut. "Anyway, if you find something you like, let me know. I'll go grab the gun and ammo from the garage. You two make sure not to kill each other, alright?" Will joked, as he headed toward the garage.

Will grabbed the gun from the garage, making sure he loaded the clip completely just in case, as he pushed the weapon into the back of his jeans and placed the end of his shirt over it. He then grabbed two boxes of ammo and his axe from near the front door as he could hear Storm and Jude calling for him to come back. He almost ran into Jude as he exited the house.

"Yeah. Just let me make sure everything is in order." Will said as he returned to the car and grabbed one of the more empty duffel bags and pulled it out, placing the ammo inside. After locking the station wagon and reapplying the tarp, Will draped the bag's strap over his shoulder giving a small grunt as the weight of the books and ammo hit his nerves. Although he was used to it, it was still a bit of a heavy load.

"Let's go then. You lead the way, guys."

Grant, excited by the prospect of food, headed inside of the grocery store without waiting up for Axel. Inside, he looked around. Most of the shelves were picked clean, but there was definitely a good amount of food lying around. He smirked; unaware that a stranger was watching him.

Suddenly, a man jumped out, yelling at him to drop his gun, which he had yet to realize he had already drawn. Grant didn't have much leverage here, considering he didn't keep any bullets in his firearm. "Okay man, be cool." He set his gun down on the ground, and slowly stood up. "For future reference, if ya' wanna talk, don't come out guns blazing." Letting out a heavy sigh, Grant jokingly wondered if crap like this happened to say, Bridget. When he had met her, he definitely didn't feel like he was in danger; in fact he was happy to see someone. Then again, the tattoos and biker patches probably didn't beam with friendliness.

Grant bent down to pick up his gun, and dropped the magazine out, showing there weren't any bullets in it at all, before putting it away. "Well, you can't be too careful these days." Grant scoffed. "Trust me, guy, guns tend to only escalate things. You're lucky I'm such an upstanding citizen and my friends weren't watchin' otherwise we both mighta' walked away from here shot. And we ain't no psychopaths, just doing a little grocery shopping."

Grant took a step forward towards him, his shoulders slumped and his hands in his jacket pockets. The psychopath comment ticked him off a little bit, seeing as he wasn't the one pointing guns around in the first place, but he couldn't really hold it against the guy; he himself might have done something similar if their positions were switched, it was just that adrenaline was still pumping a little bit and Grant was a passionate dude; it would just take some time for him to simmer down before he could let it go. "Grant. And you?"

And we ain't no psychopaths, just doing a little grocery shopping." the man said, showing he had no bullets in his gun. That made Will feel a little guilty for being so suspicious, but at least it wasn't the alternative. "Then I'm sorry for the ambush. I saw your cut and got a little worried. The last time I met someone part of a gang like that, it didn't end well for anyone." Will said, motioning towards the man's jacket which marked him as a member of The Red Desert Devils. He couldn't help but think back to the last altercation

"Grant. And you?" Grant replied, after Will asked his name. "I'm Will. Now that the guns are down, it's nice to meet you." Will extended his hand in hope of a handshake to tide things over. He knew it wasn't much, but it was a start. "And while we're here, we might as well help each other out. I'll get your back while you look around? With the luck I've had today, I wouldn't be surprised if people just start dropping from the sky."

After hesitating for just a second, Grant shook his hand. "People droppin' outta the sky? Pal, you have no idea." He smirked at the fact that he had met so many people today. He withdrew his hand and started glancing around the grocery store. "Y'know, if you're interested in some herb I can definitely help you out." Grabbing a cart, he started pushing it around and dumping anything he could find in it.

"No thanks." Will said at Grant's offer of weed. "I stopped doing that stuff in college." Grant nodded as he shoveled some things into a cart from the nearby shelves as they walked down the store aisle. As they reached the end, Will was surprised to see Jude and Storm in front of them.

"Hullo Will. I see you made a new friend. Any friend of Will is a friend of us I hope? Jude said with his usual optimism that Will had come to expect in the short time he'd known him. "Grant, these are the people I was telling you about. Jude and Storm. Guys, this is Grant. He's finding some food. Play nice." Will said in a joking manner.

"And by the way Grant, I have some food if you wanna trade for it. I have a box or two and I don't need that much for myself and if it's raining people like we talked about, then you're gonna need all the food you can get."

"Suit yourself." Grant gave a nod and a shrug and continued piling things into the cart as he passed by, not paying much attention to what was going in, as long as it was food. His attention was only brought up from the supply of food when he heard a new voice talking to Will. Glancing up, there stood a woman with dark hair, and a man standing at his height.

Grant merely gave a quick, cheeky salute as he passed by, intent on grabbing more food. He only turned around as Will spoke once more. "I'd take up yer' offer," he said to Will's offer to trade, "But that herb is really all I got. Some tools, too, but I need those." He looked down to the food he had gathered. "Well, I guess I got this stuff, now, too."

Grant felt as though he was gathering stares from the group that had gathered before him. He finished piling things in his cart and turned to leave, looking back at them and talking as he walked. "Well, I'm gonna get outta here. You guys ever end up in some trouble, say, your starving to death, a crazed lumberjack wants to chop you up, or prom's tomorrow and you still don't have a dress, you can find us on a farm a few miles west of town."

With a final nod, he headed out to meet with Axel and Vlad, happy with the haul of food he'd gotten away with.

When Grant got back outside, he helped the two others load up all the things they had found. These supplies would last for a good while. "Hey," he said, tapping Vlad's shoulder, "You want that?" He asked, pointing over to an abandoned car in the parking lot.

He had his toolbox with him, which including a lock picking set. Kneeling down carefully, he started to unlock the door of the car, so they could rig it up to start.
