Aura straightened in the mirror. Her shoulders were up and back. She was in her uniform of light-gray, signifying graduation from the academy's navy uniforms. Her hair was in a ponytail and the ponytail stuck out from the back of a light-gray hat. It was her last day on planet Earth. Today she'd be going to the space station and joining the next flight into space. She was around 24, graduating the academy after her grandparent's death, she had no one. In some ways, she liked it. Everything of theirs was left to her, but she wouldn't be back on Earth for what she assumed would be a good, long time.
Shoot, she was excited, actually. In the mirror, she smiled at herself, ready for the day. Her nerves gathered together to push adrenaline through her system. She picked up her duffel bag and headed to the car. The bag in the trunk, she set off down to the station for take-off. She was sure this would make the news, as most take-offs did. She was gaining a lot of publicity, which she wasn't always fond of, but it was worth it.
Once you're trained and graduated for this kind of a trip, they set you to posts once you're there, sending you to places you're needed depending on your abilities. There were a good handful of students she recognized there with her. Some were from other parts of the country, other continents entirely, but all were from Earth, that she knew of. She grew up on the old-school Men In Black made back in the early twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She loved sci-fi, and ever since the Mars-Earth war happened, she was sure she'd fulfill some kind of destiny that beheld her. Her rank was highest offered for her status. Kind of like admiral, but nothing like Sergeant.
The graduates loaded and took off after interviews. It was another world entirely when she stepped off onto a metal platform. She and her duffel bag, along with her fellow students and their bags, walked deliberately through metal-plated doors and through the other side. On that side, a few men and woman were lined up, shoulders up and back and hands behind their backs.
"Welcome to Harbinger Perilous," a voice said. Aura's heart was in her throat, and her ears were intent to listen. She looked without moving her head to see a man descending stairs. He took a breath to speak again.

"Welcome to Harbinger Perilous" said a man with a deep Texan accent, descending from the stairs confidently holding his arms out wide as if he was showing off Perilous to the new recruits. He then stood at the front of them all, looking around "I am Admiral Jones, and I am your commanding officer on this station, some of you may have heard of me in the past and my exploits during the Mars-Earth war, if you have heard of me, you know that I run a tight ship and my men are the best of the best and I expect those high standards from all of you." He walked backwards and forwards with his arms behind his back inspecting the new recruits. "Very nice, I've got a good feeling about all of you, you will all be assigned to different parts of the ship for training and to be given your positions." A man from behind stood forward who appeared to be another high ranking officer started reeling off names their officers and the sectors they are assigned too.

He got to the last few names and stopped listing them and nodded to the Admiral. "Some of you may be wondering why you haven't had your names called, this is because we have noticed your excellency in training and will be assigned to a special unit where you will be given one on one training, you will be a part of the Secret Space Unit or SSU as most know it as." As he finished speaking the sound of footsteps could be heard walking into the room, a smartly dressed man with sergeant stripes on his shoulders, the admiral just watched him smiling. Some of the recruits started to look in the corner of there eyes as the man walked down the middle of the room too the front, saluting the admiral he turned around watching the room. The admiral turned his head to the sergeant "your late sergeant Rogers." He replied "my apologies sir I just got back from reconnaissance." Rogers then proceeded to walk back and forth in front of the recruits and let out a slight smirk "Sir, are these really the new recruits, they don't look like they could fight their way out of a paper bag." he stated. The Admiral laughed and told the room "this is Sergeant Carl Rogers, the meanest toughest SOB in the galaxy, he will be one of the SSU trainers". The admiral then read out the last few names and their trainers, he got to the last name ans laughed to himself "recruit Auriana Wilford, you're the lucky one, you get the 'delightful' sergeant Rogers." Rogers looked at her looking slightly annoyed, "sir you cant be serious... her?". The admiral just smiled and turned away from the room to walk out. Rogers scowled at the Admiral and then looked to Wilford "come on Wilford, you better be ready for this, I guess I best show you to the SSU quarters." He then proceeded to swiftly walk out of the room not waiting for his new apprentice.

Aura couldn't place the accent, but the man knew how to put on a show. When he reached the bottom, he stood in front of them all. "I am Admiral Jones, and I am your commanding officer on this station, some of you may have heard of me in the past and my exploits during the Mars-Earth war, if you have heard of me, you know that I run a tight ship and my men are the best of the best and I expect those high standards from all of you." The man looked deliberately at each and every one of the new recruits. Aura felt her blood boiling. She'd been through so much training! Why did she still have these kind of nerves!? In all honesty, though, the nerves didn't make her sweat or shake, so she was thankful for that. Admiral Jones happened to look at her last. He shifted his glance off of her moments after, but it still gave her the goosebumps. "Very nice, I've got a good feeling about all of you, you will all be assigned to different parts of the ship for training and to be given your positions."

From behind, the chorus of newbs were given the instruction to fulfill a 180 degree turn and face the voice. He then looked up and down the row of people he was in and explained that he was going to introduce each one and he would call upon the recruits to join each of the sergeants. It was common knowledge that if you didn't remember which sergeant was which, you didn't belong here.

The center man reading off the names ended his list and nodded to someone behind her. Aura was still standing with her bag at her feet, back straight, and shoulders up and back, hands behind her abdomen. She had felt discouraged as she saw the list was ending. When he hadn't said her name, she was confused. She was meant to be here, it was all she worked for the past couple years. She had been paying utmost attention. The Admiral's voice came from behind as it was he, now, that gave the order for the turn. When she and the last two recruits faced him once again, he explained why they were left out. "Some of you may be wondering why you haven't had your names called, this is because we have noticed your excellency in training and will be assigned to a special unit where you will be given one on one training, you will be a part of the Secret Space Unit or SSU as most know it as."

Aura couldn't tell whether the footsteps cut him off or if they began the minute he stopped talking. From Aura and the other recruits's right side, a man entered the room. The Admiral smiled at the man coming through the center of the room, but the recruits held their ground and peered at him through the corners of their eyes. He joined the Admiral at the front, saluted, and turned to the apparent left-overs.

The air seemed almost casual as the sergeant and Admiral spoke to each other. Aura didn't let up her stance, but instead held it and watched the man with untrusting eyes. He seemed closer to the Admiral than any of the other sergeants and Aura didn't like that. It had traitor and backstabber written all over it. He made eye contact as he inspected the Aura and the others and smirked. "Sir, are these really the new recruits, they don't look like they could fight their way out of a paper bag." The Admiral laughed and introduced the man as Sergeant Carl Rogers, one of the SSU trainers. It was the Admiral, himself, that held the names of the last recruits. The other two recruits happened to be men. The Admiral directed each of the recruits out of two separate doors saying they'd find their SSU trainer down the corridor.

"Recruit Auriana Wilford," Admiral Jones said, looking at her. Regardless of being fully dressed, she felt an abnormal nakedness that she couldn't shake off. "You're the lucky one, you get the 'delightful' sergeant Rogers." This caught the Sergeant's attention as he now looked at her, too, from the list in the Admiral's hand. "Sir you cant be serious...Her?".

Aura didn't know what that was supposed to mean, and supposed she never would. The Admiral did what she probably would have done in the situation: smiled and left. It did leave her with some joy to know that she would probably be Rogers's personal hell, especially with the attitude he was giving. "Come on Wilford," Sergeant Rogers said. "You better be ready for this. I guess I best show you to the SSU quarters." Rogers didn't bother to wait for Aura to grab her bag. He, too, turned and left.

It didn't take Aura too terribly long to catch up, but she would still be one to insist it was rude. Out the door they traveled. They didn't stop for anything, but hurried to where Sergeant Rogers wanted her to be. Did the other recruits get the same treatment? She wondered. She wasn't sure what to say, and learned the hard way that breaking the ice was an idiotic idea. You could get yourself killed that way.

She glanced at Sergeant Rogers. So far, none of this was really going as she had dreamed. Her Sergeant was an immediate asshole. She wasn't going to get the full tour unless she adventured out by herself, which could get her into trouble, and so far none of it looked Men-In-Black-ish enough for her. There weren't many people out and about. Aura hoped it was just this corridor. Either way, she observed as they paced. She could see Earth, her beautifully disastrous homeland. She followed in suit with Sergeant Rogers to the point of him opening a door. Aura held her breath and took a step in, not wanting to go any further. It was magnificent.

Rogers didn't give Aura any time to get acquainted; she wouldn't have that opportunity in the battlefield. He rushed off down corridors towards the SSU quarters. He then stopped at a door and looked over his shoulder making sure that Aura was behind him, he saw her trying to catch up and he smiled. There was a scanner next to the door, he put his eye up to the scanner and the door opened slowly. He stepped into a large long room. It was sparkling white with windows showing the stars and Earth was completely visible. All the way down there were multiple computer consoles, TV's, couches and tables, even the odd pool table. It looked like leisure room but at the same time looked as if it was some sort of war room where the SSU conducted its mission plans. At the end of the room there was a huge monitor and a long table, sort of like a meeting area.

Rogers turned around to Aura "This is where you will live from now on, SSU headquarters, the most high tech unit in the whole Earths forces. Say high to Ghost." At first nobody was around and Rogers just smirked, then all of a sudden "Howdy!" A man appeared out of nowhere next to Aura surprising her. He was dressed in a grey body suit that covered the whole of his body; he also wore green goggles that prevented you from seeing his eyes. "This is Ghost, he's our stealth expert, if there's any time we need someone to get in and out of somewhere without being seen he's our man." said Rogers. He went up to Ghost and started to talking to him, they were whispering and joking around "Get the program ready." This was the first time Aura would have seen some sort of happiness from the sergeant. He was more comfortable in the SSU, he could relax, he didn't have to always go by protocol and he actually trusted the people around there. Ghost quickly disappeared in the blink of an eye again.

"I'll show you around." He walked forward pointing left and right to different rooms. "Those two rooms are the sleeping quarters and the kitchen, that's right we have our own chef, it’s a lot better food than in the mess hall, those rooms on the right are the ship hanger where we have the Black Star, our own ship, and we have the firing range next door." There was one more room that he didn't tell her about he just kept walking towards the large monitor at the back of the room. "This is the Space Intelligence Assistant or “SIA” for short. She tells us everything we need to know about all the goings on in the universe, isn’t that right SIA” said Rogers speaking to the computer. Suddenly the computer replied in a female voice that sounded like someone had slightly altered it to make the voice sound very attractive “Yes Sergeant, I am specialised in all aspects of space travel, warfare and survival, I also have constantly updating databases that tell me everything that is occurring in the universe”. SIA was showing on the monitor all the information on nearby planets, including temperature, population, trading figures and weapon sales. Rogers then turned away from SIA and walked into the room he hadn’t mentioned yet, it was a large circular room with a balcony where Rogers was stood on the balcony when she stepped in. The door closed behind her, “Are you ready for your first test Aura?” shouted Rogers down to her. “This is the Simulator, everything that appears in this room is not real but the dangers are very real so keep your guard up.” All of a sudden he disappeared and all that was around Aura was trees and jungle. A rifle was laid on the ground next to a bush. Rogers was hoping this was all she would need to protect her against anything that the jungle had waiting for her, be it a tiger or a much worse monstrosity.

Aura should have gasped at this moment. She could see the stars better than before and the Earth...Holy shit, Aura marveled. She breathed out slowly, unsure of how she could ever recreate this feeling of amazement in words. She sure as heck would never be able to paint such beauty. Below was technology that she knew Computer geeks on Earth would be drooling over if they saw. It was also a tad lounge-ish with couches, tables, televisions, and a pool table. She laughed a little inside about this. There was one table in the center that was larger, with figures on it. A planning table. She knew exactly what this would be for: war. Or at least that was her guess.
She looked at Sergeant Rogers as he faced towards her. "This is where you will live from now on, SSU headquarters, the most high tech unit in the whole Earths forces. Say high to Ghost," he said to her. She looked around, not seeing anybody.
Just seconds later a friendly, "howdy!" shocked Aura slightly. On her other side, a man appeared fully hidden. Sergeant Rogers fully introduced him: "This is Ghost, he's our stealth expert, if there's any time we need someone to get in and out of somewhere without being seen he's our man." The two men talked in whispers while Aura looked around. She didn't want to touch anything, so she explored with her eyes. After a couple minutes, the Sergeant said, "Get the program ready." Oddly enough, the badass looked happy, somewhat. When Aura looked up, Ghost was gone.

"I'll show you around," Sergeant Rogers said. Was he talking to her? About time, thought Aura. They walked and he talked. "Those two rooms are the sleeping quarters and the kitchen, that's right we have our own chef, it’s a lot better food than in the mess hall, those rooms on the right are the ship hanger where we have the Black Star, our own ship, and we have the firing range next door." He paused, but only vocally, then continued as they headed towards the back. "This is the Space Intelligence Assistant or 'SIA' for short. She tells us everything we need to know about all the goings on in the universe, isn’t that right SIA," it appeared that Sergeant Rogers was talking not to Aura, but rather to the system in front of them.
And, not exactly to her surprise, the system spoke back in a seductive voice. Men.. Aura thought, knowing it was the male gender that had to have created SIA. As SIA words drifted, the monitor showed everything she spoke of.

Where Sergeant Rogers went, Aura followed. He entered a large room unlike the others, or so it seemed. Aura, just behind him, stepped in and the door slid closed with a distinct click. "Are you ready for your first test?" Was all Aura needed to hear. He described the test briefly and what the room was, then disappeared. Right, Aura thought. First we have the iRobot thing going on int he last room, and now we have X-Men. Bring it.

She looked at her surroundings. A rifle was in the bush next to her, but she didn't pick it up. She wouldn't need it...would she? Sergeant Rogers said nothing in here would be real, except the danger. Aura kept herself calm and collected. She didn't close her eyes, but instead opened her ears. Her senses would guide her, she knew. When she was sure that the forest around her was partially safe, she looked specifically at her footing. Any observer would probably be wondering what the heck she's waiting for. At the end, she would answer simply: danger.

She took one step, then another. That didn't take long, She thought as a monstrous yowl sounded. The room made an echo of whatever beast she'd be part taking in probably killing. She crouched with hands to the ground, to feel any vibration in the ground that she could. Whatever it was, was not running. She looked up into the trees and heard a growl, much closer this time. The nearest tree wouldn't be easy to climb, but she'd manage. And so, she did. It didn't take long for her to get to the top, or at least near it. She tried quietly as she could to break off a branch, partially out of curiosity and partially because she had always kept a knife on her person at all times. The beast was near, she could feel it in her bones. Her back was against the thickest part of the tree, eyes open to the wilderness. She was carving out a point to the branch.

Then she saw it. She wasn't sure what exactly she saw. It was like a shadow, but thick. Real. It had run to her left. She wondered if it could smell. She wondered why, if this was all simulation, she could climb the tree in the first place. She wondered whether she could have actually shot off the rifle.
She took step by step, watching the beast. She didn't slip, but her next footstep cracked a branch slightly. Best believe the beast heard and looked up. Also best believe that it saw her. She was ready, though. It pounced into the tree, as if running to the top, or flying.
Aura took a deep breath and jumped from the limb she stood on. Her freshly pointed spear faced down towards the demonic, animalistic creature. It had canine teeth and jaws that snarled, but its body was as large as a full-grown Clydesdale. Instead of hoofs, the beast had padded paws with long nails inching towards her with every second. Its eyes were familiar, though. The beast didn't seem to expect her to jump, and when the spear pierced its front shoulder, it shrieked, louder than any noise it made beforehand.
Aura heard the voice of SIA at that moment. "Do not kill."
What, Aura thought it a dead voice as she and the beast tumbled to the ground. The beast thrashed and moaned. Aura strangled it with a headlock, until it lay still and its breath was shallow, then took out the spear. From behind, she heard footsteps, but not human. With the spear, she whipped it around and hit whatever was behind her, knocking it to the ground. She was standing on her own two feet in a heartbeat.
The next moment, so were both of the beasts. One was slightly smaller, the newest one. Aura smiled, gathered her composure, and swung the spear, knocking one in the head with a heavy blow. The other one advanced and she flipped the spear over to hit the beast with the butt of the spear. Need something heavier, She commented. She spied the rifle lying just meters away. With her agility, she ran, jumped over the first kneeling beast, landed, and rolled to the gun. "I repeat, do not kill," SIA said from overhead.
Of course, not, Aura laughed. The beasts were still down. She didn't have to kill them. She could knock them out, and so, she did.

Rogers watched Aura intensely from the balcony next to Ghost, she was looked confident and ready for her first test. She ignored the rifle given too her "what the hell are you doing?" Rogers said to himself frustrated that she was putting herself in unneeded danger. He was tapping his foot on the ground anxiously as Aura went through the forest, she had kept that confidence from when the simulation had started, she was passing through the trees and bushes with relative ease. She climbed up a large tree, she knew that she had to use all of her senses and not just her eyes in this sort of terrain, this impressed Rogers, she wasn't just some hot headed grunt, she knew how too adapt despite her lack of experience, this must have been why she was recommended to the SSU, but the fact that she left the rifle was ticking him off. But she started too make her own weapon which appeared to be a spear of some sort.

Rogers turned too Ghost, "shes not bad, but shes been dumb as well as smart at the same time." he said as he leaned on the control board in front of him, Ghost replied "Yeah she knows how too get around, should I make it harder?". Rogers just nodded and in turn Ghost selected a fight simulation and sent in two beasts too fight her. Rogers then called out "SIA I don't want her killing her new 'friends' in there seeing as she hasn't gone for the weapon we gave her" SIA replied with "Affirmative sir". One of the monsters sprinted through the forest looking for its prey, hungry for fresh meat. Then it heard a snap of a branch, Rogers winced as Aura had stepped on a weak branch and he knew she wouldn't get her chance to attack first, it saw her up the tree and struck giving her little time to react, but she managed to jump down and stab it with her quickly crafted weapon. "Nice" Rogers said, "shes not just a pretty face, maybe I was wrong." She didn't let up and continued to attack the beast and held it down by the throat getting her weapon back. She was quick on her feet and was acting like a veteran soldier, she noticed something behind her and hit it to the ground. Both beasts stared her down angrily, snarling at Aura. She attacked again and they appeared hurt, but still just as savage as before. Rogers had a intense look in his eyes hoping that she had a plan because these beast wouldn't give up until she was dead. She dived over towards the rifle but SIA warned her not to kill the monsters, Aura obeyed SIA and turned around to the beasts and knocked them out with her spear.

Rogers looked on impressed at his new apprentice and gave a slight smile too Ghost. He walked down from the balcony and into the simulator through a separate door. A pistol appeared in his hand as he walked through the wild forest, then he saw her in the small opening. He whispered through a small headset to Ghost, "wake them up" all of a sudden the beasts slowly got up and stared at her but they were different now, calm but still as intimidating, now maybe even more because of the dead stare. Aura prepared herself, but at the sudden movement they pounced and jumped through the air straight away. Rogers stood up holding his pistol through the bushes and fired two loud shots, both piercing through their heads. The beasts dropped too the ground lifeless. Rogers holstered his weapon and walked into the clearing up too Aura clapping his hands slowly. "Well done, you showed why you were recommended to us, you had all the attributes that you need, brains, agility, strength. But sadly you failed" as he finished talking he aimed his pistol at her head. "I could kill you right now with one movement right now, and you wouldn't even feel it. Take the rifle next time." Then in the next instance the forest disappeared as well as Rogers weapon, they were back in the simulator, he lowered his hand and walked away from the room. As the door opened he stopped, Rogers looked over his shoulder too look at her. He reached into his pocket, and pulled a small object out it was the badge of the SSU, the logo showed the beast in the simulator. "I almost forgot". He threw the badge at her "Catch!".

The beasts were soon laying on the ground. Aura was taking a breath of literal relief. Her spear was still in her hands, and she partially leaned against it. It was only moments before the beasts's breath relaxed and they got on their feet again. They were different, though. There was a calmness in all four eyes, like interested dogs rather than horrible flesh-eating beasts. She could still hear the snarls, though. She could still feel their breath in front of her, trying to tear her limb from limb. Aura didn't trust it and her body tensed.
Two loud shots echoed through the air. Aura jumped to the side, and trained her eyes on the bushes where her Sergeant walked out, instead of on the beasts. He held a smaller gun than the rifle. One that Aura was more familiar with. The beasts to her side dropped dead. It's so real, though, thought Aura. Still, falling bodies only made a few noises.
Aura's breath was at ease. She was ready for appraisal. It probably wasn't written in her face, but rather in the way she stood. Her shoulders straight, posture perfect, spear in one hand. Sergeant Rogers put his gun away and clapped his hands. "Well done," he said."You showed why you were recommended to us, you had all the attributes that you need, brains, agility, strength. But sadly you failed." Faster than she had seen anyone do it, Rogers took the gun back out and aimed straight for Aura's head. She didn't raise her own weapon. She knew if he meant to kill her, he'd do it. Plus, for as fast as she was, he was faster. "I could kill you right now with one movement right now, and you wouldn't even feel it. Take the rifle next time."
The forest disappeared along with the spear and Rogers walked away. Aura felt an irritation in the pit of her stomach. She didn't move an inch, but realized Rogers was her trainer, her personal Sergeant. She followed his lead, wherever he took her. She walked towards the door he was already at. He had already stopped, and turned towards her slightly, hand in pocket. "I almost forgot." He pulled out a small object and chucked it at her lightly. "Catch!"

Aura looked down at the badge in her hand. She looked back up at him. "SIA commanded that I didn't kill the beasts. If I had chosen the rifle, would that have been different?" Straight to the eyes. "I could have killed them with either spear or knife if I had to. If failing is due to guns, I'll pick up the god-damn gun next time." She put the badge in his palm and stalked off out of the simulation room. It was the only way to go, was it not? She'd wait on the other side in the planning room.

Rogers just watched Aura as she fought her corner, the passion and fire in her eyes, it was that of a real soldier. As she stormed off, Rogers looked at the badge in his palm as she had placed it there, he had to get her to stay she was different from most people he had trained, but he was angry at the way she showed no regard to his orders, he turned and followed her into the corridor "Hey stay still soldier!" he shouted. She stopped and looked at him. "Do you want to know why I told you to choose the rifle?" he said sternly. He clenched his fist angrily as he thought back to past battles he'd been involved in, "its because that is the only thing that is going to keep you alive out there, you think those beasts are the toughest thing in the galaxy, do you think that a spear is going to kill 100 soldiers charging at you in an open battle field?". He looked into Auras eyes again just watching her. "I will not have you put the lives of my men in danger, I don't care if you take a damn damn sword with you into battle, but you always take a firearm, it gives you another option in battle, I see that you specialize in short range battle any idiot could see that, but you will never survive with that mentality, look at Ghost, he uses a Sniper Rifle and many knives both keep him alive".

He left the badge on a small table next to him, hoping that she would take it and continue in the SSU, Rogers wanted her to stay. There was so much she could achieve, maybe more than himself. "If you change your mind i'll be in my quarters" Rogers just walked away back into the main room of the SSU headquarters and then into his private quarters. His room was like a 5 star hotel, there were TV's, Computers, everything that he would need. He even had his own private link to SIA. There was a large window on the right of the room where he could see thousands maybe even millions of stars, he had a couple of chairs next to the window with a small round table where there was a notepad and pen. Rogers made a small note in it "Discuss next mission with rest of the team". He always made small notes like this, it allowed him to remember everything and he could easily get to the notes. Next to the pad was a photo frame, it had a picture in it, there were two men in it Rogers himself and a second man, the both had an arm over each others shoulders, smiling. Rogers just looked at it "I wish you were still her old friend, you would know what to do with all this stuff with Aura". Rogers just leaned back in his chair looking into the stars, "SIA dim the lights please" he said, "Affirmative sir". The lights slowly dimmed and Rogers just took time to relax and think, "Oh Carl, nothings ever easy is it" he said to himself.

The Sergeant followed Aura out of the room. His presence lingered for a moment before his voice came. Oddly enough, Aura found it comforting. He wasn't kicking her out, that much was obvious, or else he would have already told her to leave. "Do you want to know why I told you to choose the rifle? It's because that is the only thing that is going to keep you alive out there, you think those beasts are the toughest thing in the galaxy, do you think that a spear is going to kill 100 soldiers charging at you in an open battle field? I will not have you put the lives of my men in danger, I don't care if you take a damn damn sword with you into battle, but you always take a firearm, it gives you another option in battle, I see that you specialize in short range battle any idiot could see that, but you will never survive with that mentality, look at Ghost, he uses a Sniper Rifle and many knives both keep him alive."
Aura smirked slightly at the thought of Ghost. It would be marvelous to be taught by him. Sergeant Rogers placed the badge on the table next to him and said, "If you change your mind, I'll be in my quarters." As he walked away, Aura shook her head. He never showed her his quarters. He never showed her her quarters. Her eyes flitted around the room, looking for the bag she had set down earlier. Seeing as it wasn't there, she figured that someone perhaps brought it to the room she'd stay at? Maybe not... Aura took a breath, leaned against the table and picked up the badge. It shined bright, but Aura knew she didn't deserve it. Not yet. She'd prove her worth before she wore it.
Putting it in her pocket, she left the room and walked down the hallway. It felt like a short distance, but Aura knew she probably walked at least a mile. She came upon a dining hall. It was odd-looking, and seemed more like a library than anything. Either way, there were people here. She walked in and caught the eyes of a couple recruits she traveled with. Going and sitting next to them, they asked what happened after they left the room.
Aura wasn't sure what came over her, but she only notified them of little things. "I ended up being partnered with an autocratic son-of-a-bitch who gives a damn." She laughed. "Like a gym coach, except all about the guns." It was the recruit's turn to laugh. "Now I'm just trying to find where my bed will be at."
The recruits looked at each other and back at her, then one said. "I'm not too sure. The rest of us are all together in one room. There isn't a spare bed, though. I'm guessing you'll be closer to your trainer if anything." It was the last thing Aura wanted. "Look it up in the directory."
Aura had another idea in mind. She'd just ask SIA. Smiling, she left the table. "Thanks, guys!" Heading back towards the simulation room, she listened to the partial silence of the station. She entered the room she first met Ghost. She wasn't sure if he was still there. Hardly timid at all, she called out, "SIA, where's my room?"
"Down the hall, take your first left and follow that to the north side of the station. There you will find trainee rooms and high-caste quarters." Aura was half-surprised that it worked.
A little giggly, she headed off at a run, feeling power up and down her legs. She was there in no time at all. In fact, there was a room with her name on it. This surprised her. She saw it before even Sergeant Rogers. She didn't recognize and of the names, actually. Opening the door handle, she stepped in. It wasn't a hotel, but it was pretty darn nice. She headed straight for the bed, wanting to know it was soft enough to lay on. Sure enough, she laid down and drifted off peacefully.

At first, she thought it might be an alarm clock ringing, but then Aura realized, it was a siren. She wasn't completely clueless. Most of the time, sirens were the sign of warning, of danger, of alert. Aura hopped out of the bed, and looked out of the room. Everyone was calm, but rushing. She needed to find Rogers.

Carl sat back in his seat and started to drift off to sleep as Perilous drifted through the stars. He had calmed down from the argument he had with Aura but just wanted to be alone for a while, where he could just collect himself. He thought about calling Aura into his room and discussing some things calmly without any shouting, that was if she was still around. However he felt it might be good for her to have a think to herself and maybe it was good for Carl to have a think himself.

Carl almost fell asleep when all of a sudden the dimmed lights in his room changed to red and were flashing slowly, then there was a loud alarm. It was a category 5 alert, this was serious, they only used this alarm if the ship had been attacked or even worse and invasion of one of the home planets. (Home planets being Earth and other planets colonized by Earth) Carl asked SIA "SIA what is going on SIA?" He was worried, they hadn't had an alert like this in a while, the last time this happened the Perilous was almost ripped in half by a large space pirate ship. "Has Earth been attacked SIA?" he asked. "Negative Sergeant, Earth is safe, the Perilous has been attacked." she replied. Carl became confused, how could the ship have been attacked. They would have detected it earlier and they would have been able to deal with it and if they had been fired on, he would have heard and felt the explosions. "Who has attacked us SIA" he asked. "That is unknown sir, members of the ship have been disappearing and soldiers have been found dead in the corridors, the Admiral has been locked in the Bridge with a large amount of security, he has authorized lethal force and has requested that you come to the Bridge" she said. "Why doesn't ask me over the intercom?" Carl continued to ask. "Communication outlets have been terminated by the attackers" she replied.

Carl rushed into the SSU headquarters and saw his team around the war room. Aura was walking into the room as well. "Aura join us in here." he said. He'd forgotten about their differences for the time being, this was serious, they needed to get work done. "We have been attacked by an unknown force, members of the crew have been disappearing and bodies have been found in the hallways and most rooms, the admiral is safe for the time being but I must get to him in the bridge and explain the situation." Carl explained to the team. Then a rather large man built like a bunker started speaking, he a low voice that matched his frame. It was 'Tank' he was the heavy weapons expert "Sir I saw some people get killed when I was coming from the mess hall, but I didn't see who did it, they just fell to the ground. No gunshots or anything, just bullet woulds and one of them looked like he had been cut with a sword." he said. Carl didn't know what to think, who were these guys, from what Tank said, they were assassins of some sort. "Looks like we have some guys who are experts in stealth, this means we need to be extra vigilant, go in teams of two and try to clear the ship of any hostiles, Ghost I want you to scout the ship and tell me any information on these guys, we will all keep in touch via our private radios, the ships comms are down. Aura your with me. Move out!" he ordered. Almost instantly the rest of the SSU left the room fully armed and ready to fight. Carl looked at Aura, "Looks like you get some real action. Go into the armory and get a weapon, you have hundreds to choose from. Now lets go" Carl said and after he went into the armory and got his rifle. The room was huge, covered with weapons wall to wall, anything you could think of was there, rifles, mini-guns, swords, anything... Carl then went to the main entrance of the SSU headquarters waiting for Aura.
