FULL NAME
      Atticus
He has never been referred to as anything more than that. His name is just Atticus.

NICKNAME(S)
Atticus is a mouthful, so sometimes people tend to shorten it to simply Atti or Att. He doesn't think that either of them sound any better than his real name though, and 'Att' is a really dumb thing to call someone.

GENDER
      Male

AGE
Atticus is 95% sure that he's 15. The other 5% is him hoping he's secretly immortal and has superpowers.

SPECIES
      Human

SEXUALITY
      Heterosexual

NATIONALITY
His mother was Scottish, so Atti assumes that he must be Scottish too

HEIGHT
      5'4

WEIGHT
      116lbs

HAIR COLOR
      A very obnoxious orange.

EYE COLOR
His eyes are brown, like tree bark or dirt.

GENERAL APPEARANCE
Atticus' most notable physical trait is the horrendous orange mop that he calls hair. It's constantly messy; never brushed, and in in desperate need of tending to. Other than that, one would notice that Atti is really quite short for his age. The sad part is that he stopped growing years ago.

Atticus does have scars on his arms, back, and legs from causes he doesn't wish to disclose. He tends to cover them up with clothing if he can, and for the ones on his arms he'll subconsciously rub with his hands.

PERSONALITY
      ✦ Confident ✧ Disorganized ✦ Challenging ✧ Hotheaded✦

Atticus, at first glance, is obnoxious and challenging to work with. He's loud, often shouting things instead of simply telling them, and he tends to speak with more enthusiasm than needed. He asks questions when the answers should be obvious, he'll find difficulty in even the easiest of things, and overall he's just a pain.

Atticus is also incredibly angry; so much that it's almost startling. For someone that talks too loud and doesn't find much value in wisdom, one would think that 'anger' and 'hatred' weren't existent to him, but boy does he have a lot of it. He holds a grudge against the Beings, too, for all the things that they've done to humans. He takes their actions against his kind personally, as if every bad thing they do is solely to aggravate him. He wants revenge, and he wants it badly.

The funny thing about Atti is that he can dim down his anger shockingly well. He pushes the rest of it to the back of his mind, not allowing it to show through in his actions, and instead comes across as only having a slight resentment towards the Beings. Not a full-fledged unhealthy one.

Atticus, at a second glance, is still all the things he was before. Obnoxious, difficult, terrible company. The only thing that changes once he's known a bit better is how he's perceived. The constant dumb grin on his face becomes a little less genuine and a little more forced, his laughs seem to sound like they're being pushed out of his throat. Everything becomes more real while at the same time becoming more fake.

LIKES
✦Fruit - Any food, really, as he'll eat next to anything. He favourites fruits the most because of how weird some of their names sound (take kiwi for an example.)

✧Sunlight - Atti's skin is quick to burn, but he would sit in a field and soak up the sun all day if he could. He can't, obviously, but it's nice to imagine.

✦Running - It gives him such a free feeling, like he can run anywhere.

✧Books - Atticus has never read more than two pages of one, but the fact that a bunch of words clumped together can create whole other worlds fascinates him. The fact that people can create those worlds fascinates him even more.

✦Yelling - RAISING HIS VOICE VERY LOUDLY is something Atti finds joy in for reasons that don't have much reasoning.

Image
Image
Image
Image
DISLIKES
✦Zoos - Atticus had lived in one for too much (all) of his life. He's always hated the restrictions they enforced.

✧Loud noises - It's perfectly okay when he's the one being loud, but as soon as someone/thing else is causing it, he freaks out. He'll calm down fairly quick, it's just the split moment of panic where he doesn't know where the sound is coming from that gets to him.

✦The Beings - Atticus has an unhealthy amount of pent up anger against those things. If he was taller and stronger, he'd probably try taking one of them out. Not that he wouldn't still try now, but at least if he had a bit more height and muscle he'd have a better chance at succeeding.

✧Time - It's an odd thing to dislike, but what Atti resents most about it is that he can't wrap his head around how time can go by so fast and yet so unbelievably slow.

✦Death - No one likes death, Atti thinks. He's not an exception.

TALENTS
✦Whistling - His mother taught him how to whistle a few songs, though if you ask him he'd say it's a pretty lame talent to have.
✧Impressions - He learned this as a way of mocking some of the zoo-keepers at his old zoo. Since then it's always been a form of entertainment to him.
✦Drawing - He's actually fairly terrible at drawing, but he likes to do it so he considers it a 'talent' anyway.
✧Morse code - Another thing his mother taught him. She didn't know very much, however, and therefore only passed on a few words and phrases to her son.

FLAWS
✦Prejudice - Without really knowing a Being, Atticus will assume the worst of them.
✧Temper - Atticus is too quick to anger and has a hard time making good decisions when he's upset.
✦Lack of awareness - WHEN HE TALKS LIKE THIS or brushes people off, Atti doesn't register how rude he's being.
✧Uneducated - His mother did her best to teach him, but Atticus never had any sort of proper schooling.

FEARS
✦Death - The form of death doesn't matter, Atti is terrified of dying.
✧Cages - Being cooped up with no where to go, trapped, is something Atticus has nightmares about.
✦Abuse - It's happened to Atticus many times. He's a bit skittish because of it, but he tries to keep this fear hidden.

FAMILY
Owl || Mother || Presumed Alive
      ??? || Father || ???

BIO
Atticus was born in captivity. A zoo (a very bad one at that) had housed his mother Owl since she was only a young girl, and had been trying for years to get some offspring out of her. Apparently she had children before her son, but Atticus was never told this from anyone except the zoo-keepers. He likes to imagine that maybe, if he really does have siblings out there somewhere, that they're safe and out of reach from the Beings.

In the zoo Atticus was always causing trouble. He was one of the only children there, the others being years younger than him, and so he always found himself becoming bored. He needed excitement, but was scolded every time he tried to get any. With nothing to do, he quickly became either bored or hungry, the only two feelings Atti seemed to have back then. The zoo was always running short of food (or purposely not letting its inhabitants have any) and the sound of growling stomachs wasn't a rare thing to hear. Atticus saw many children in that zoo die at the hands of hunger, and he saw many more come very close to it.

To distract her son Owl would tell him stories. She was free once, she said, and she had lived far underground with her parents and her cousins. There had been books that she would read, and she would recite the tales to Atticus. Heroes, wizards, history, fiction. Owl had even gone so far as to try to teach him how to write by dragging sticks through the dirt, but Atticus could only learn how to spell his name. She had tried to teach him the small bit of morse code

After twelve years of Atticus being there, expenses to keep the zoo running became too high and it was shut down. Owl had thought that this would be the chance for her and her son to be set free, but quickly they were shipped off to a different place for captivity. "Orange hair," someone had told them. "Too rare to just be tossed away like that." Atticus wished that he and his mother had been brunets.

In the new zoo Atticus made it his goal to be hated. If they disliked him enough then surely they'd get rid of him, wouldn't they? They'd let him go. He'd scream at visitors and try to climb the fences. He wouldn't cooperate with the workers. He was a nuisance, but they couldn't move him anywhere else because of the reputation he gave himself and they couldn't kill him because he was 'rare'. Instead, the zoo-keepers decided the best thing to do was punish him.

Punish, a word Atticus grew to fear very much. His fear didn't stop him from acting out, though. He was desperate to leave.

His mother was later moved to a different zoo and Atticus was forced to stay behind. "No one wants you." Someone reminded him. You're too much trouble." The words were meant to sting, Atti knew, but he felt nothing but pride from them. He was despised by the Beings just as much as he despised them, and now with his mother gone it was only another reason to hate. Another log added to the already burning fire.

'Unstable' and 'violent' were the words used to describe Atticus when Dr. Ataraski asked about him. "Not safe." Someone had warned. "He'll run away and scream at everything if you don't have him locked up." But despite that Dr. Ataraski took a chance on him and Atticus couldn't have been more repulsed by it. The mindset that all Beings were murderers and monsters had been etched into his brain, and now he had to live with a family of them.

It was the same reoccurring nightmare, the one where the body hung from the rafters of the attic, a makeshift noose tightened around the being's throat; her body half eaten. There was another Being in the room, his hands and mouth covered in blood and a sick smile twisted across his lips as he turned and reached for the human. A scream ripped from Doll's body, her eyes flying open as she sat up in bed, panting. Someone grabbed her and forced Doll back into a laying position as she clawed at the air, yelling for the person not to touch her. "It's alright, you're alright. Nothing here is going to hurt you Loretta," her real name. It was something given to her by the first Being she had encountered, a sweet older one that had died once Doll was of age to be placed in a zoo. Only one person knew what it was and that was Master Atarashi.

The tears in her eyes began to dry, leaving a sticky feeling on her face. Thankfully the office she was made to sleep in until she could share with Rose and Sara was sound proof; or at least it muffled whatever noises were made in this space. Dr. Atarashi had brought Doll here on the grounds that he could heal her better in a smaller, safer environment but like every other Being's home she had ever been to, Doll was no guest. She was a pet and as far as owners went her new one was not the worst. "Why don't you get ready for the day?" Dr. Atarashi suggested quietly, releasing his hold on her since Doll had seemed to calm down. The blonde nodded her head and sat up, wiping the remnants of tears from her eyes so that Kiku would not see that she had been crying.

Today the outfit laid out for her today was a blue dress with a white apron. She recognized it as a story book character but the name escaped her. Doll shut her eyes and tilted her head, attempting to remember who it was but to no avail. She sighed and ran a brush through her long locks, braiding them quickly and exiting the room. Doll tugged at the collar around her throat, the lights blinking every few seconds to ensure it was on. The thing only had to functions, to keep track of her and ensure that Doll couldn't leave the property. The collar was a safety measure due to the events of her first day on the estate. After the initial shock of moving wore off Doll had gone into hiding. She hadn't left the estate, she just hid in the gardening shed behind a tall pot of unplanted tulips; scared to death after Zero's interrogation and being bombarded by questions.

Doll entered the kitchen, the humans had a separate eating space and only ate in the dining room when invited. She was either the first to arrive or was so late that the others had all eaten, Doll wasn't sure but one glance at the clock across the space indicated it was still morning. "Morning Doll," the Atarashi's chef said, waving his spatula in greeting. "Good morning Grell," Doll replied and sat at the table, delighted when he put a plate of eggs with cheese and vegetables in front of her. The human dug in, eating her fill rather quickly and taking a swig of water. Should she wait to see if the others would come? Or go up to Kiku? Doll fidgeted in her seat as she thought and decided she should face her Master.

She walked up the two flights of stairs to his room, hesitating as she raised her arm to knock. "Kiku?" Doll tapped her fist against the door twice before opening the door a splice to peek inside. The room was dark, the blackout curtains drawn shut. Should she come back later or wake him up? Was he even in bed? Doll couldn't tell as the room was pitch black. She stepped inside, fear quickly crawling up her spine. Doll stepped out once more and shut the door, sliding against it until she was sitting on the ground with her arms around her knees. She would wait out here where it was light, yes that was a much better idea.

Atticus didn't feel alive. He knew that he was, though, because he was breathing and living things breathed, but he didn't feel it. His eyes felt closed when they were open and his brain felt asleep when he was awake. Atticus felt very... foggy. He didn't have the word that explained it.

Mornings, Atticus was finding, tended to be like this. Maybe he just wasn't fully used to his current situation yet, or maybe he just wasn't getting much sleep. It could have been either one, really. Or both. Simple things slipped past him and even simpler things angered him, like how he was supposed to pick out his own clothes or how he had to live around so many people and was expected to not scream at any one of them.

People, he thought. Are what you call humans. Beings aren't humans. Beings were monsters and killers and could maybe look like humans, but Atticus didn't consider them to be people. They weren't, after all. They were so much worse.

He was captive-born and captive-raised, meaning he had been around Beings his entire life. He had seen them through fences and he had seen them up close, and never once had they given him a reason to like them. They had stuck him in a cage since the day he was born, and now they had traded that cage for a slightly bigger one. The only real difference was that instead of being part of an exhibit to look at, Atticus had become someones pet. Someones property.

Atticus wasn't sure how he felt about it. It was freedom in a way, because he could walk where he wanted and eat when he wanted, and he was pretty sure that he could walk and eat at the same time if he wanted to (though he hadn't gotten around to trying that yet), but he still felt... trapped. Atticus didn't have the word that explained that one, either.

He wished that he had a larger vocabulary.

White shirt or brown shirt? Atticus thought, staring at himself in the mirror while holding the two shirts close to him. He glanced over at the rest of his clothes, neatly organized in a mess spewed across the floor. Blue shirt, maybe. Choosing clothes still seemed like an impossible task to him. How everyone else seemed to do it with so much ease seemed even more impossible. How did they know what colours went with what? How did they not end up wearing their pants backward or their shirts inside out? Atticus scowled. His pajamas looked like they matched fairly well, didn't they? It wouldn't be too bad if he just kept wearing them.

He left the two shirts on the floor behind him and walked out into the hall. The house was big, to say the least. Big enough that Atticus rarely found himself running into anyone. Still, he was finally beginning to remember which hallways led where and which doors led to what rooms. Fuko, his 'owner's room, was... Atticus paused. He didn't fully remember where that one was yet. He began walking in the general direction of it anyway, and then after a few moments of walking his feet seemed to remember where to go.

"FUKO! HEY, GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS!" Atticus shouted, knocking heavily on her bedroom door. Fuko Atarashi wasn't the nicest of Beings, and Atticus wasn't the politest of humans. Suffice to say, they did not get along too well. "IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GET UP! STOP BEING LAZY." The last part wasn't too necessary, Atticus thought, but it felt good to say it to her nonetheless.

Fuko woke up with a start, she was screaming and breathing heavily. She knew it wasn't even daybreak. Then at the foot of her bed she saw Dr. Atarashi, her father.
"Fuu-chan my darling. You were having another bad dream weren't you? I brought you your medications."

"I don't w-want the medicine." She muttered softly. Her breath was coming in ragged breaths. It was getting harder to wake up every morning, her heart was becoming weaker. Although she refused to let this slow her down. No one but her father would see her show any sign of any amount of weakness. Ever.

"Look, my princess. If you don't take it. . ."

Fuko's upper lip curled, then with a yell she knocked the medicine out of the man's hands. "I said I didn't want it! Leave me, at once!" Fuko whispered between clenched teeth. Her father sighed and ruffled her hair, then he took his leave, leaving behind the medications on her bedside table. Fuko watched him leave, swinging her feet over the side of the bed with a heavy sigh she got up and got dressed.

She had been brushing her hair tenderly when she heard a ruckus outside her door. Banging and shouting.

"FUKO! HEY, GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS! IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GET UP! STOP BEING LAZY." Fuko tsked and bit her lower lip angrily. His outburst had startled her, causing her to yank down on her hair. Strapping on her eye-patch she made her way over to the door, composing herself before opening the door.

"You are a fool. A loud obnoxious fool." Fuko snarled, grabbing Atticus by the lapels and yanking him inside with shocking strength for something her size. She held him against the wall, her lip curling like that of a wild beast.
"You have angered me for the last time Atticus, for this you will pay. Do not forget your place boy!" Fuko reeled back slapping the boy once across the face. "You caused me to yank on my hair. Your blatant ignorance is almost amusing. I could destroy you with one thought. Never forget how lucky you are I am merciful." Fuko let him go, brushing her hands on her skirt. She then put a part of her hair up in the side ponytail she always wore. Looking back to the orange haired boy she smiled sweetly. Almost like she was another person.

"Atty, I'm sorry. I just, I'm not a morning person. Forgive my meanness won't you?" Fuko's voice was soft and innocent as she approached. She put a finger on the boys chest, walking her fingers up his chest and leaning her head on his shoulder seductively gazing up at him.
"You know I just get. . . Angry. Forgive me." Then quieter. "Please Atticus." Fuko had made sure to close the door he had entered through, leaving her and the boy alone inside. A part of Fuko was attracted to this boy, to the fire within him.

Atticus didn't know what kind of reaction he was expecting from Fuko when he yelled at her through the door. Her getting angry at him? He could at least predict that much.

"You are a fool. A loud obnoxious fool." Fuko snarled at him. Atticus grinned, pleased by her anger, but it quickly turned into a confused frown when she grabbed him and dragged her into her room. Fuko had a lot of odd things about her, Atticus noticed. But the strength she had despite her small size was probably one of the oddest. Plus there was the fact that someone as tiny as her was managing to hold him up against a wall with complete ease. That could have been considered odd, too.

Then, Fuko did something that Atticus hadn't been able to predict. He had thought that maybe she would just yell at him for a few moments, maybe give him a very rudely worded lecture of respect, but Fuko had decided to do something else. Something that made Atticus remember his life spent at the zoo. She hit him. He had flinched back as she had raised her hand, and still it had struck him.

Atticus hated the feeling of being hit.

He didn't listen to what she had said after that. It had something to do with ignorance, something about destroying him with her brain maybe, and her words could have included her being merciful though Atticus wasn't too sure if his ears had heard that part properly. He was too busy focusing on the stinging on his cheek to give enough attention to the sound of her voice. For a few seconds, Atticus was frozen.

Fuko turned toward him again, this time with a smile on her face, and she gave Atticus what he assumed was intended to be an apology. He narrowed his eyes at her, debating whether or not if he should walk out of the room and leave her being unforgiven. He doubted that she would care, though. Fuko didn't seem like the type of person who cared about things a whole lot.

She got closer to him, which made him feel much less than comfortable. What was she trying to do, anyway? One minute she was furious, then the next she was... something. Completely different. Atticus felt tempted to push her away. "You're just a monster, Fuko." He snapped, doing exactly that. As soon as she was away from him though, Atticus realized with a sense of fear that she was probably going to hit him again. But even if she does, Atticus thought, trying to reason. What's the worse that would happen? You're not gonna die here. She can't be allowed to kill you. Though Atticus wondered if Fuko would still try.

He moved to a different spot in the bedroom that was reasonably much closer to the door. He sat down on the floor with his arms wrapped around his legs, unsure of what else to do. Could he leave? He thought of it, and then he also thought of Fuko yelling at him for doing something without her telling him to. Atticus sighed and rested his head on his knees. He felt like he was on leash that was too short for him, and that if he tried to run away he'd be throwing himself right into an electric fence.

One place of captivity to another...

Fuko was feeling fairly happy, repentant for striking her little pet but. . . Then he snapped at her. He even shoved her back, she fell onto the ground, eyes wide. What just happened. . . Fuko felt a pain in her chest, tears slid down her face, she couldn't control it. She stood shaking and looked down at the boy holding his knees.

Sniffling and still crying, her voice was weak, shaky even."Monster? Monster. . . I am aren't I? Do you think I want to be a freak! You ever think maybe I didn't ask to be this way? I CAN'T CHOOSE WHAT I AM!" Her voice rising to a shout, she fell to her knees and was struggling to breathe. I should have let Daddy give me medicine. She realized she was showing weakness to this boy, she had done it out of choice. . . Why? Was her subconscious attached to him? No, she looked up at him, her breath was struggling.

"You could kill me right now, you could kill me while I'm like this. Take my money and leave." Fuko manged to cough out as she tried to stand. It failed of course. Fuko hated her life, it took her this boy to realize it. She shook her head and coughed. She wouldn't let this fool infiltrate her head. She was just like this because she had refused the medicines. She looked around, hoping maybe they were on the ground, she began looking frantically. Under her bed, around the nightstand everywhere. Nothing. Daddy had picked them up. . .

Fuko looked over to Atticus with a look of defeat on her face. She noticed she had frightened him, and she also woke up to the fact that she did indeed like him. He made her laugh. Not around him of course but, no matter, he would never trust her. Nor should he. She wanted him to. For the first time she wanted someone to like her back. This carrot-topped fool had wormed into her black heart. She didn't know how to show it. Was this really what happens when I don't take the meds? I'm a wreck.

Fuko crawled over to Atticus, a few inches away, looking into his eyes with tears Fuko whispered.

"I need medicine from my dad, I need you to get it. I feel weak. Please. . . I'll owe you a favor." Fuko lowered her head and sniffled. She needed meds to fog up her feelings. Without it she was a emotional wreck.

"Kiku... I-I'm scared. I-I don't know what's going on." Doll said into the camera as soon as the gag was removed from her mouth. She wasn't sure how long she had been here, there were no windows so she had no sense of time. All Doll knew was that she had to go to the bathroom and that Grell was dead. His blood still stained her pajamas, Doll had been standing close by when he was shot. The two had been tracing constellations in the garden when a bullet met his head and his blood sprayed onto her. Doll had screamed and was quickly kicked in the side. She hadn't been killed because killing humans was illegal and somehow the government always knew when one of them died so they had taken Doll and she wasn't sure what her purpose here was.

Tears ran down her face as one of her captor's snaked his hand down her shirt. "I sure am going to have fun with my new toy," he said into the camera, removing his hand and pulling at a strand of hair that had gotten loose from her ponytail. He sniffed it greedily, watching the lens that was supposedly a live feed to the Atarashi household. "Anything else you want to tell your dear master?"

"It's a trap!" Doll screamed as tears continued to flow. "Don't come! They're going to hurt you!" She felt the butt of a gun hit her head again and the chair toppled over, leaving Doll on her side. They rushed to turn the camera off, leaving a quick message that they should come with the requested money if they ever wanted to see her again. Doll was glad she had warned him, she would do it again if she had to. "Stupid human," Doll was grabbed by her hair, the one in the panda mask gripping her locks tightly and pulling Doll up. "I'll make you regret that," panda mask whispered, dropping her. Doll couldn't catch herself because her hands were tied to the back of the chair and so she fell to the ground once more, her jaw connecting with the concrete. "You won't get away with this," Doll growled. She was feeling rather brave after that although she was still shaking.

"Oh yes we will," panda left then along with fox and rabbit, leaving Doll alone on the ground. She blinked the rest of the tears away, glad that she had warned Kiku. Doll had been in the Atarashi household nearly a month now, she had learned how to get around Fuko's door without alerting her that she was there, she had discovered that Zero had a soft side for Sara and had been forced to watch Top Gun with Thanyos, Kiku, and Rosalinda. Doll had been rather enchanted by the film but the others acted as though it didn't impress them. Doll had also learned that she and Atticus had lived in the same zoo, although they had never seen each other and talked for hours about everything and anything. The collar had been removed, she had moved in with Sara and Rosalinda, she had made so many wonderful memories and the thought of them all made her smile.

At least they were safe, if anyone had to be taken and beaten up Doll was glad it was her. Her friends would be able to sleep easy. They might worry for a while, they may not give her a second thought, but Doll was happy that they were alive and well. Doll was resigned to her fate, she would probably die here in the tiny cell underground but at least there were people with memories of her, evidence she had lived and Doll couldn't have asked for more.

She awoke to darkness, Doll's need to go to the bathroom had become urgent and she rubbed her knees together in an attempt to make the feeling go away. "Excuse me!" Doll called, hoping she could be heard through the thick metal door. "I have to use the restroom!" Doll called twice more before the door finally opened. "Shut up!" Rabbit growled and pulled Doll up. He grabbed the back of the chair and dragged it out, leading Doll down a series of hallways lit by candles. Finally they entered another room and stopped. Rabbit locked the door and untied her from the chair. "Don't try anything," he said and turned around to give her some privacy.

It was a relief and soon Doll was back in the first room. She was retied to the chair and left alone once more. Doll had dozed off again, awaking when Fox came with a bottle of water. As far as doll could tell Fox was female and held the bottle to Doll's lips as she drank greedily. She hadn't realized how dry her tongue had felt until her thirst was quenched and water spilled out of the bottle and onto her lap, but Doll didn't care. Her hunger pangs silenced as well and as Fox left Doll uttered a quiet, "thank you."

The next time Doll awoke she was curled up in the corner of a dark space. Doll lifted her arms and found that it was hardly bigger than a packing box. She could feel the heavy chains weighing her arms down and tying her ankles together. Panic seized her, it was completely dark. "Let me out!" Doll screamed, banging against the metal walls. "Please, I won't try anything! Please I-I hate the dark!" Doll choked on her words. They didn't care, there was no one listening and she cried until she was asleep again.

Days passed, that was all Doll knew. She had lashed out when Panda slid his hand down her shirt again and so they had taken her pajamas, leaving Doll to shiver in her underwear in that tiny metal box. If Doll was good she got to be in the room, in front of the camera that was always watching her, supposedly connected to one of the computers in the Atarashi household. The weight she had gained there was quickly being shed and she grew weak as days passed. The fire in her had died out and the only time Doll fought was when Panda came. She would not give into him so easily.

Doll felt like a shell, she did nothing except lay on the floor, sometimes at her side, sometimes on her back, always staring at the ceiling. Sometimes when she shifted the chains would jingle and she would imagine it was really the keys in the door, that it was Kiku and he hadn't listened to her warnings and came to save her. Why would he though? Surely Doll was easily replaceable? Surely she had meant nothing to Kiku... It stung to think this but it was the only way that Doll could detach herself from the hope that they were coming-that he was coming. There were no more tears she could shed and the cold against her bare skin no longer bothered her. Doll had finally made peace with death, the end was close for her and then... Then what? Would she meet her parents in heaven? Would she find a community of humans in the sky that had met untimely deaths like hers? Or would it be eternal blackness? Doll closed her eyes, imagining that she was back home, it wasn't her home of course, but it was the closest thing to a home she had, had and so Doll thought about Atticus and Thanyos, Zero and Sara, Rosalinda, Grell, Dr. and Mrs. Atarashi, and of course she thought about Kiku. She thought of his voice when he read to her, how he would sometimes pretend to be the character or would read super slowly to add dramatic effect. The last book he had read aloud to her was the Wizard of Oz and occasionally Doll would think that she was Dorothy and this was just a bad dream, but every time she woke up it was either in that tiny dark metal box or in the room underground.

Once in a while Doll would say something to the camera, she would tell Kiku not to worry, that it would be over soon and she would thank Dr. Atarashi for all he had done, more than once Fox or Rabbit had come to the door and yelled at her to shut up. More than once Doll had attempted to strangle herself with the chains to make the end come faster, but they would come running and stopped her by throwing her in the box where there was no room to do such a thing and Doll began to believe that the camera wasn't connected to the main computer in the Atarashi house but to some sort of security room where her captors could watch her.

No one ever came for her. Doll began to crave what little human interaction she got through Fox and Rabbit, she even began to look forward to when Panda visited. Last time he came Doll had bit him and she was satisfied with the scream she had drew from that ugly sounding man. Sometimes they would toss her a piece of bread, one time they had even given Doll a slice of leftover pizza but the food hadn't agreed with her and she had spent the night on her side, quivering in pain and vomiting what little food she had in her stomach. It was worth it though, Doll would eat it again if it was offered. They had begun handling her with kid gloves and so she hadn't gotten anything but water for the next few days. Doll still had yet to get her clothes back, Rabbit had sort of hinted that they threw them out and Doll wasn't sure why. She didn't care anymore though because her body was numb and had gotten used to the pain and cold, the chains digging into her skin no longer bothered her and all she did really was sleep or talk to herself. It was boring, but Doll kept reassuring herself that it wouldn't be like this much longer. Soon she would be with Mom and Dad.

Doll turned over in bed, she had been home, or at least the place she considered her home, for about a week now after recovering at Dr. Atarashi's clinic for a while. The first few nights had been terrifying, clinging to whatever shreds of life remained in her, hearing the constant steady beep of machine's behind the walls of the isolated room she was forced to stay in so as not to be exposed to any foreign germs. It hadn't been one surgery like Dr. Atarashi had been expecting, in order to reverse the damage the animal masked being's had caused, Doll had undergone five surgeries. The only thing she could think about though was being excited to return home.

To see Rosa and Zero, Sara, Thanyos, Atticus, Fuko, and Kiku. Especially Kiku. She hadn't gotten to see any of them yet though as the house was unusually quiet when she returned and Dr. Atarashi had sent Doll right up to bed despite the fact that it was midday. He had said she was still recovering and shouldn't move around too much and that she had waited this long, a little while more wouldn't kill her. It felt like it though and Doll tirelessly tossed and turned, hoping that anyone of her friend's would pass through the doors and enter the room. What condition was Rosa in? She had been taken too and Doll was concerned. Although, if she had to, Doll would not hesitate to take another blow for her friend. It was just pain which was nothing foreign to her.

Doll slid from between the sheets and onto the cool floor, feeling restless as she made her way over to the stand alone mirror beside the window. She lifted up the soft blue shirt she was wearing to reveal the scars and ran her fingers over the tender flesh, marveling at how numb the area was thanks to the pain drugs and magic of science. Doll's skin was still warm to the touch and red, forever marred from the claws of being's. Doll turned to return to her bed, wondering how she was going to occupy herself until dinner and stopped. Her eyes traveled the length of the room to where a book sat on the dresser. Curious, Doll picked up the slim novel, wondering where it had come from. It was obviously not one of Sara or Rosa's as both girls could read. This one had simple letters in a large font and wonderful water color pictures printed on the front.

Doll returned to the bed, settling between the covers as she wished for the thousandth time that she could read. Instead of pondering too long on it though she opened up flimsy cover and marveled at the first photo. A landscape spotted with trees and yellow daisies greeted her. The next page had an endless ocean with a sandy beach and little white and gray flecked birds in top hats playing in the waves. She giggled, turning to the next page and wondering who had left this here. The final photo was of a zoo, but rather than humans inside of the cages there were animals of all sorts of colors and sizes. Ones with stripes or spots, some adorned with leathery gray skin and tusks or standing as tall as the trees. Doll ran her fingers over the page as though her intention were to pet them.

She felt sad for these poor beasts and could sympathize with them. To be locked behind bars was no way to live. Unconsciously Doll rubbed her wrists. The skin was still raw from being peeled by the chains but slowly the scars began to heal and with them so did Doll. She may no longer have the seamless porcelain skin that had warranted the nickname, but each scar was a memory. As Doll closed the book she looked at the book and her smile quickly faded, a feeling of terror and dread filling her chest. On the back were pictures of a rabbit, fox, and panda.

Doll quickly hurled the book across the room, watching it sail through the air and land near the bathroom. She grabbed the edge of the covers, pulling the blankets over her head in an attempt to hide. "No, no, no." Doll muttered to herself, squeezing her eyes shut and covering her ears with her hands. No they were dead, Kiku had killed them, they could no longer hurt him or Rosa or her. The memory of Panda's slimy fingers running between her chest was enough to make goosebumps crawl along her arms. The snarling and beating, being near death and speaking deliriously to a camera in order to warn Kiku to stay away, the chains, and embarrassment and shame.

Tears pricked her eyes, Doll shook her head. No it was over, she was safe here. Grell may be dead, sure a few of the windows had to be replaced, but it was still home. She was finally home.
