David 'Ghost' Ryder

A soft-voiced woodsman who flows like liquid between shadows as he plies his trade of death.

Description

Image
Standing at about six foot in height, David isn't the tallest, and with his lean physique neither is he the strongest. What he does have, however, is a brutal way of fighting that takes uses every possible advantage and every dirty trick up his sleeve to gain the upper hand. His skin is marked with scars, from battle and torture both.
The hood that is attached to his outfit is almost always up. Few if any have seen his face.

Personality

David comes across as a soft-voiced, gentle woodsman because that is what he wants to project; and, at least, two of those things are true. He is very soft-voiced or doesn't speak at all, and he is indeed a woodsman, living without contact with other people for weeks at a time.
One word that is a complete antonym with his entire personality is gentle. He is uncaring and brutal in battle, and he is little better when conversing with people. Due to the fact he has gained quite a reputation he hardly needs to speak; he takes the money and kills the person.

Equipment

Twin katanas: These have been constructed and maintained by some of the best weaponsmiths in the world before they came into his possession. He cares after them just as highly, as with them he achieves the majority of his overt kills.
Hira shuriken: These are fitted on a X harness over his chest. He generally uses these to wound and distract so his swords or wrist-blade can make the final blow.
Wrist-blade: Mounted on his left bracer, David only needs to flex his wrist and the spring-loaded blade extends, allowing him to make stealthy, silent kills. It must be pushed back into its sheath manually, however.

He carried round a pouch filled with money to pay for various needs, but since he tends to work in cities he does not carry round a pack or similar items.
David also owns a midnight-black horse called Shadowmere.

History

Although David's life hasn't been the longest it has violence enough for ten men's. He lost his parents at the young age of six where he wandered into the forest and, from there, learned how to survive.
At the slightly older age of sixteen, and after reports of people being attacked and robbed by some sort of evil forest spirit covered with leaves, he arrived at the city of Nortim. At first a thief, he quickly learned the value of eliminating certain people, and hasn't looked back.

So begins...

Slowly, but not warily, a horse that was as black as night approached the tavern, "The King's Demise". Its rider was hidden beneath a long travelling cloak; its hood was pulled over the rider's head and kept their face in shadow. A long bundle strapped to the horse's saddlebags could either be a pair of swords... or something else, perhaps. Then again, with the vaguely-unsettling aura around this person, it seemed likely it could be the former.
David Ryder, known as the Ghost, dismounted Shadowmere as the stricken state of the tavern became apparent. "Stay here." He said softly to the horse, who snickered but didn't move. David, the travelling cloak still covering his outfit and keeping his face in shadow, approached the tavern, and the people in front of it.

"Someone make sure our guest finds his way home safely, these be dangerous woods."
"I thank you for the offer."
These men are of the worst intelligence. Now that they let me free, they have hinted at the fact that they have someone following me. Pfft... Idiots. And they expect me to exude fear, the ignorant fools. And the following person is probably in the trees, wearing some kind of odd camouflage and following me. Bandit types...
Kayben walked away from the rapidly dwindling ring of bandits, going back in the direction of the inn. After a few minutes of walking, he came upon the scene of a burning pyre of some sort. Probably the dead in the skirmish. Eh... The only notable feature, besides the bloodstains and rapidly burning corpses, was the barbarian, chanting some sort of... tribal words. Kayben just continued walking. I shall never understand the odd customs of these savages.

Along his path, was a figure in a cloak. Assassin, or amateur thief. Even though he was a relatively imposing figure, standing some three inches taller than Kayben and armed with a pair of deadly looking katanas, that was no matter. Who was going to do his job but him? Stupid, yes, but necessary. Kayben hands dropped down discreetly near his daggers.
Grinning, Kayben said, "Greetings, my fellow cloaked figure. How goes the day for you? Enjoying the smell of death in this very fine piece of land? I must say, it is very displeasing. An evening stroll, ruined by these vagrants."

David stopped when he was approached and spoken to. The corner of his mouth lifted up as he listened to the male's words.
"Indeed." He replied, voice soft. "There is no finer smell." It was hard to tell if he was joking or not. David whistled softly and Shadowmere clopped over to him. His rider held the reins in his hand and walked over to the tavern proper to have a look.

((Sorry it's so short, life's being really unfair right now what with exams and all.))
