Craig Duncan

a character in “Living in the Limelight”, as played by Armageddon

Groups

Technical brutal death metal band reminiscent of Suffocation and Cryptopsy. Led by a certified psychotic. Everybody is an alcoholic.

Description

Full Name: His birth name is Craig Patrick Duncan, he used to go by Craig at all times however he is occasionally called 'Duncan' or simply 'Dun' by others in the band or not.

Stage Name: He simply goes by Craig Duncan.

Age: At the whole whopping age of twenty-two years old, Craig is a youngster in many regards and he still can't believe that Izzy let him into the band because of his youth.

Birthday: Born December 7th, 1985

Image

Appearance: Craig is a decently sized man, standing at about five foot ten. He has broad shoulders and is well-muscled thanks to nearly endless working out since high school, however he still feels rather physically intimidated by his singer thanks to him being quite a bit shorter than her. He used to sport long, black hair that fell to his shoulder-blades and framed his masculine face but since last summer he has shaved his head however he left a small patch of facial hair, since he thinks he would look weird without it since for as long as he could grow facial hair he tried to grow some sort of short, scruffy beard. He usually pays little mind to what he's wearing, generally just grabbing whatever is laying around on his floor that looks clean however more than ninety percent of his clothing consists of black shirts with band logos emblazoned on them and black jeans paired with his usual studded belt and either black boots or converses.

He has a tattoo sleeve on his right arm of tribal flames and a laughing skeleton emerging from it, pointing downward toward his wrist. He also has several miscellaneous others scattered about his body including that of a lipstick kiss on his right hand, around it faint lines of a skeletal hand - the kiss of death and a deer skull on his left wrist in memory of when he used to hunt with his family.

Role: Co-Guitarist of Band One

Musical Style: Craig first learned to play on a cheap little acoustic at age ten and quickly advanced onto the electric, finding that he liked it much better - after all, as a kid who didn't dream of being a rockstar? His instructor was very proud of him because he worked hard at it and to an extent his parents thought it was great until he got too serious about it at around age seventeen where his parents decided they no longer supported his dream. That was when he, in turn decided he no longer cared what anyone thought of him and whether his dreams were realistic or not. He was good enough that people would hire him - His tremolo picking was fairly fast and clear. Also he could bust out fast-paced solos and shred no problem. From seventeen to twenty he bounced around from a series of bands, none of which were having a whole lot of luck. His playing style has altered a bit since then, growing a little more sophisticated and melodic. He finally landed in Band One and is quite proud of it. He works hard for the band in hopes of pleasing Izzie at least somewhat, only showing her his work if he thinks that she will think it might deserve to see the light of day.

Instruments: Craig generally uses a black B.C Rich, Warbeast. His backup is merely a different color.
Image

Personality: Craig is what would be considered a good and lighthearted, social young man. He loves talking to people and isn't the least bit shy, although when he was younger he used to be a little more uncomfortable around people unless he was performing and lost himself in the music. Through his years of performing he has improved his self esteem and his become good at shrugging off harsh or snide comments - probably a good thing to have learned considering the path he's chosen to take. He's been known to make friends with almost anyone and is generally considered likable however he does have a tendency to not think before he speaks which can get him into trouble. Luckily he is the king of trying to talk himself out of trouble - he's not much of a liar but will if he feels like it will make a significant difference in how things go.

He's not necessarily sweet but is nice enough to be pleasant company, especially since he loves talking - even if the conversation is mostly one-sided he'll give it a go. He does have a bit of a temper, however - He suppresses it until he simply can't stand it any longer and then when he loses it...he really loses it and will first take it out on inanimate objects and sometimes even people if they push their luck with him while he's in this state. It's not often that you will see that part of Craig and so most people don't really know about it unless they're his bandmates. Relationship-wise, Craig usually doesn't strive to make anything last longer than a couple of months since that's about as long as most women want him since he isn't exactly a prince charming.

Biography: Craig grew up in the mountains of Northern Arizona, hunting and fishing with his two younger brothers and parents who were very supportive and loving toward him. He started listening to rock and metal at a young age and couldn't help but be fascinated by it. He started playing guitar on his tenth birthday and he took to it immediately, although at the beginning he really wasn't all that good at all however he didn't let that discourage him; it took up most of his time as he tried to improve his playing every day. By the time he really improved, he started making new friends who were interested in the same music as he was - If he wasn't partying or playing the guitar, he was definitely at a show and trying to learn everything he could from his heavy metal idols.

As Craig was drawn deeper and deeper in the world of music, his family started to have second thoughts about his career plans. They didn't think it was a real job and thus didn't believe he should try to live his dream because he would just end up homeless on a street corner somewhere with his guitar. It was at the point that he shrugged off their concerns and left home at the age of seventeen to go live with the bassist of his current band Hell's Rejects which had very little success, only playing a few shows around town, two or three in Tucson and and one in Phoenix. They never really made any money and so from that point on Craig bounced around from band to band, trying to find somewhere he fit in creatively and also that might have some sort of success where he didn't feel like he was wasting his life.

When he finally met Izzie, he felt a strange mixture of physical intimidation and respect for her. She was a great vocalist and guitarist, obviously having far more experience than he did - he couldn't help but feel like a gawky youth standing there with his guitar and praying that he wouldn't fuck up too badly when she heard him play for the first time. He could hardly believe that she actually accepted him into the band, he felt so honored but reminded himself not to overdo his excitement for fear that she would think him stupid. He still tries his hardest to prove to her that he's worth having around. He knows that if he ever slacks off too much, he's probably going to be out the door so fast it'll make his head spin.

Oh, and I read the rules...Rock of Ages. =)

So begins...

What a weird fucking day.

That was the first thought that flowed through Edei’s mind after she stepped back from hugging Vic, her smile faltering briefly as he mumbled an apology before being swept away by Ted. Being pint-sized, she was used to being overlooked but she also didn’t want to assert her presence if her old friend really was here for the bassist position. He was damn good at what he did and if she just stepped back and let him play, he would bag the spot in Cor Leonis easily.

Reaching over, she captured his hand and squeezed it gently, it smile growing into a grin as she inclined her head towards Ted. “Good luck with the bass
Thing.” She mocked him lightly, letting out another soft bout of laughter before breaking away from the two guys and wandering back over towards where Izzie and Craig were standing.

“So, we going to start up too? Or did you really want me to go grab a fifth of something to make today easier to handle?” She kept her tone playful and light, trying not to piss off Izzie anymore than necessary but on the other hand... Well, Izzie was incredibly easy to piss off. Dragging her lower lip between her teeth, Edei tried to hold back amused laughter at Izzie’s infuriated countenance. “If it helps, I don’t know Sweet Cheeks either.”

Casting a quick, conspiratorial wink at Craig, she wandered back towards her hard case so that she could drag it to whichever room they moved into, her eyes drifting for just a moment towards Vic to see how he was holding up.

She should’ve phrased her requests a little more clearly and not back to back because Izzie’s "Yes." Didn’t really help clarify anything for Edei. Yes, she wanted to get started or yes she wanted a bottle of booze? Being the type of person that she was, Edei took it as an affirmation of the latter question. Booze, it is!

“Aye aye, Cap’n!” Edei responded and in a move that she hoped wouldn’t get her fired anytime soon, she smacked the lead singer’s ass and instantly shot out of reach. Craig asked her a question next, his fingertips landing softly upon her shoulder, attracting her attention.

"Hey, where do you know that guy from anyway?"

“Follow me and I’ll fill you in on the story!” She cast a quick glance back at Izzie and laughed before starting to move once again. Lord help her if she ended up on Izzie’s shit list but the other woman was just so incredibly fun to mess with. Resting her hard case back against one of the walls, she raised her hand, gesturing towards the door in a universal follow me signal and as Craig shuffled through the studio beside her she began her short story.

“Vic and I met back in high school- a large, horrible public school with all of the cliques and whatnot. I sort of fell out of my circle of friends and into his.” She jerked a thumb back towards the room where the rest of them were as she pushed open the front door so they could make their way out onto the street. The bar that she had spoken about earlier was only a block or two away and though it wasn’t technically open this early in the morning, the owner lived right upstairs and Edei knew him well enough to go pounding on his door for some discounted liquor.

“Anyway, he ran with the crowd that jammed out in basements and whatnot. He’s the one that taught me the drums and bass though I stuck with the bass because it doesn’t involve as much flailing around as the drums do.” Laughter fell from her lips then and she cast a sideways look at Craig to see if he was still breathing. Damn, the man was quiet at times. Not that she had known him long enough to make a solid judgment of him, of course, but up until now he had barely spoken a full paragraph in front of her.

“So what about you? When’d you pick up your first guitar?”

Edei laughed at Craig’s Rock Band admission and made one of her own. “I have to tell ya that I can only play that game on easy, no joke. I blame it on the bright, flashy, distracting colors that whiz by at a mile a minute.” Casting a quick sideways glance at the guitarist as they neared the run down brick building which housed the Winner’s Circle bar, her face lit with a quick grin and she tacked on, “I’ll blame it on my A.D.D.”

Instead of marching to the front door, which was quite obviously closed and locked with steel bars blocking the darkened windows, Edei curved a path around the building where a fire escape led to a second level.

Speaking of A.D.D
.

“You think Izzie’s going to murder me when we get back?”

A snicker left her lips as she pulled at the chain to lower the metal staircase and she sprung onto the bottom step as soon as it was within reach so that her weight could lock it in place. Ascending quickly, as if she had done this a dozen times before, Edei wandered to the nearest window and rapped a fist upon it rapidly.

“AYE! Z!” Edei yelled, shielding the sun from her eyes with a hand raised over her brow so that she could peer within the window to see if there was any movement.

“Get your ass up! We need some stuff!”

A minute passed, then two, until a partially-clad bearded man with shadowed eyes unlocked and slid open the window for them.

“What in the hell do you want this early, Edei? Fuckin’ ‘ell. I just rolled into bed
” He stared up at the clock hung upon the wall, moving back a few steps to allow the two band mates into his apartment. “An hour ago? Shit. Get whatcha need and get outta here. I’ll tack it on with everything else ya owe me. Keep this up and you’re going to owe me a shift at the bar with all your tips.”

Edei swung in first, her petite frame easily slipping through the rickety window and the moment her feet touched the floor, she was already off in the direction of another door. As she passed by the large Queen-sized bed, a blonde stirred from beneath the covers and peered quizzically at the source of all of the noise.

“Thanks, Z!” She called out, tossing open the door that led from Z’s apartment to the bar downstairs and she waved Craig over, afraid that he was going to double back and run for it.

“Oh and Z, meet Craig. Craig, Z.” She had no idea who the chick was so she wasn’t about to even attempt introductions there, better to ignore the blonde so they could go grab the alcohol and get back to Izzie and Cormy before they lit the studio on fire.

Taking the steps two at a time, Edei made her way down the steps and flicked on a light switch which slightly illuminated the bar as they entered. Dim lights were supposed to be some sort of ambience but Edei knew the real reason for the Winner’s Circle being so dark was the fact that Z was too damn cheap to buy more than a handful of bulbs every year. If one blew out, fuck it. He’d replace it when people were crashing into each other or breaking shit but not a moment before then.

“What does the boss lady like? You know?”

Edei made her way behind the counter, picking up a few unopened bottles and setting them up on the marred wooden surface.

“Well, I have no idea what Izzie or Cormac prefer so I’ll grab Jack, Jameson and Jose
” She spoke as she plucked bottles of the Jack Daniels, Jameson whiskey and Jose Cuervo from the shelving behind the bar, tucking them beneath her arm as she moved out from behind the counter and headed towards the back wall. There was a silver door with a large handle and she tugged it with her free hand, balancing her liquor against her hip. A large walk-in fridge was revealed since she assumed Craig was more of an American beer drinker than a German beer drinker, meaning he preferred it icy instead of warm. With a swift gesture, she motioned him over and pointed to the cases of beer stacked upon each other.

“Grab whatever you want, muscles, and let’s go! I don’t want to piss off Izzie by taking our time shopping.” Though she probably should be terrified of the lead singer’s reaction to everything she had done thus far, Edei couldn’t help but grin. Life hadn’t been dull in the short amount of time since she had joined Psychosis that was for sure.

Rounding her way around the tables until she was near the stairs once more, Edei shouted at Z to thank him for the goods and surprisingly she didn’t go out the same way they had come in. Instead, she cut a path straight towards the front door, wrenching it open and holding it for Craig so they could make their grand escape back to the recording studio.

More to herself than to Craig, she inquired out loud, “Are we alcoholics if we’re drinking this early? I mean, seriously. I’ve had drinks at this specific time before but it was usually when I was winding down instead of just getting started.”

A frown set upon her lips as she maneuvered the three glass bottles in her arms again, trying to make sure that none of them shattered upon the ground as she shut the door to the bar behind them and began walking.

It didn’t take them long to make their way back to the studio and Edei’s ears were immediately greeted with music that was both aggressive and powerful and she practically sprinted ahead so that she could get back to the band.

Knowing she wouldn’t be heard over the music, she simply held up the liquor in her hands and then bowed both deeply and dramatically towards Izzie. The trio of bottles was then set down onto the nearest flat surface so that Edei could wander off and grab her bass to set up the ‘jam session’.

Everytime that Edei played with these three, she was impressed. Though she had started with them on songs that were already hammered out into perfection, the longer she stuck around showed her that they were more than they seemed. Izzie was quite literally a demon with her guitar, looking half possessed with the way that she played but no one could deny that the shit that blasted through the room was intense and bordering on epic. Craig and Cormy easily kept up with her and when Edei finally joined in with her bass, she too had high hopes for the band.

Perhaps they could play some live shows or something. Edei always did enjoy the energy of a crowd and if they hit up a few venues it would draw out their creativity for the studio. A win-win situation in her mind and perhaps it would also take away Izzie’s tension/anger about playing in the same studio as her friend/arch-nemesis
Whatever the Ted guy was to her.

With the impromptu ‘jam’ session coming to an end, everyone began to go after the alcohol that she and Craig had scooped up from Z’s place and the ensuing conversation had her lips tilting into an honest grin.

“I only smell like whorehouses on Sundays. Saturday nights are 2-for-1 specials down there by the docks, y’know.” Casting a wink in Izzie’s direction, she wrapped her hands around the necks of the two bottles that were left over, Jameson and Jose, and held them out towards Cormy.

“Irish or Mexican? Take your pick,” she offered, overhearing Craig’s comment about being kicked out. In reply, she rolled her eyes at the guitarist and stuck her tongue out at him before another bout of laughter rolled from her petite frame.

“Craig, you’ve been around longer than I have and I’m going to wildly assume that you’re sticking around for the duration. Hope that doesn’t ruin any future plans for ya.”

Once Cormy had chosen his poison, she popped open her own bottle and took a swig. Alcohol and metal in the morning. What else could anyone ask for?

Edei continually grinned and/or laughed during the conversation that followed and though she didn’t say so out loud, Izzie’s threats towards her wearing frilly dresses just made her want to do it even more. Internal organs be damned! She could probably run faster than the singer, right?
Hopefully? These internal musings kept Edei quiet for a few moments as the rest of them talked and she drew back her Jameson from time to time, drawing large amounts of liquor with each pull which could be frightening when considering her weight but she was a seasoned drinker. Perhaps too seasoned and her liver had more than enough practice to let her drink as heavily as she did with without making her knock down, drag out drunk.

The conversation turned back her way for the moment as Cormy asked, "That dude back there your long-lost brother or somethin'?" Her gaze dropped to the bottle in her hand for a moment and a grin stretched her lips while she shook her head. “No, definitely not a brother.” She began, laughing as she lifted her eyes from the Jameson to Cormy once more. “We actually met in high school
He’s the one that taught me bass.”

What a small world they lived in. Everyone had their own ties to everyone else with Izzie knowing that Ted guy and Cormy chatting up that hot blonde from earlier
If Vic got a gig with Cor Leonis then maybe they could all tour together! The thought made Edei smirk randomly, which might look a little crazed to anyone paying attention but she shook the idea away, knowing that Izzie would never go for it. Hell, with the way the singer seemed to get along with that Ted guy, she would probably prefer setting Cor Leonis on fire over performing on the same stage as them.

Popping back to the present conversation, though, she shrugged her shoulders and continued on. “He left abruptly though. Never said bye or anything so it was sort of a shock to see him again.” The whole town, of course, had heard what had happened and it was tragic to say the least. But instead of coming to his friends and seeking comfort, Vic had simply split.

Edei had quieted down, the occasional twitching of the corner of her mouth proving that she was still listening despite not being an active participant in the conversation at the moment. Though her silence was mostly a form of self preservation. The first words that had been about to slip out of her lips was the correction to Izzie’s floundering attempt to recite the old adage Speak now or forever hold your peace
 Wasn’t that from weddings anyway?

Her eyes slid over to the band leader, scrutinizing her for a moment while she continued to pluck away at her bass. She couldn’t imagine Izzie going to a wedding quite honestly and what she did imagine brought an even broader grin to her mouth. She cast her eyes down at her fingertips trying to shoo away the image of Izzie decked out in full on bridesmaid gear standing there with a bunch of flowers in her hands. It was almost like imagining Cormy in a dress and she nearly laughed. Biting hard down upon her lower lip, she instead stifled her reaction and just stood there, shaking slightly with the barely contained amusement as her bandmates continued to speak.

Though he seemed to relent slightly, Craig still didn’t seem like he was willing to show whatever it was he had been working on so Edei broke the momentary silence by responding to Izzie’s earlier comment. Reaching out, she pushed on Cormy’s shoulder slightly to gain his attention and then she scoffed indignantly. “You hear that?! We’re a bunch of pussies! I guess that’s a challenge for us to write the next big Psychosis hit.” Looking back towards Izzie she winked and let a soft, rolling laugh finally escape her small frame.

Edei had set her bass back down and picked up her trusty bottle of liquor once more. An arched brow and incredulous glance crossing between Izzie and Craig then back again as the two dueled it out over whether or not Craig would play whatever it is he had planned. He seemed pensive but Edei believed in him and Izzie just wanted someone to play something to prove that her momentary benevolence was worthwhile. However the good times ended when Ted pushed his way into the room and began dressing down Izzie like a child in front of her band. A move that Edei didn’t think that the man would live through but apparently whatever in the fuck happened on the date that everyone kept repeating was some serious shit. Izzie fell silent and Cormy shot a glance in her direction, which almost made her laugh. How would she know what it was in reference to?! She was the newest member of the band and she barely knew what their fucking last names were much less anything that had happened in their pasts.

So she shrugged when glances were cast her way and another awkward silence fell over the band as they awaited Izzie’s response. Dragging her smartphone from her pocket, Edei typed in August 24, 2006 and searched for results, mostly for shits and giggles but it actually landed on something and the petite bass player decided to go with it. If nothing else then to break the tension that had threaded through the band once again.

She held the phone aloft as if offering proof and she scoffed indignantly. “August 24th, 2006
.” Her eyes flashed to Izzie, brow arched as she tried to keep a smile from her lips as she read the article: ”The International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefines the term "planet" such that Pluto is now considered a dwarf planet.”

“Fucking really, Izzie? You had a hand in that shit?”

Her lips twitched and she sidled over to hide behind anything that might block the lead singer's rampage should the jest be taken in the wrong direction. If she was going to be eviscerated anytime soon, at least she was going to make the woman work for it.

Edei grinned, pleased that she had gotten the tension to die off and as everyone’s laughter died down, the mood seemed to have altered. Thank God because if there was one thing that she couldn’t deal with it was drama. Or anger
Or confrontation or pretty much any negative emotion, really. Laughter and humor seemed to suit her more which was odd considering the type of music she preferred to play.

Cormy spoke up, taking Izzie’s warning quite literally and his comment had Edei laughing again. Laughter which continued with Izzie’s utterly amazing comeback and accompanying exasperation. Craig seemed to be following along the same train of thought as Cormy had because his "We're free to do as we want then?" had Edei arching her brow in his direction as she took another swig of liquor before setting the bottle down.

“Are you going after Charlotte too?! Hell, I think I better go warn the poor girl if she’s going to have you two battling over her.” Snickering to herself, Edei cracked her fingers then flexed them back and forth as she cast an eye over the group, frowning thoughtfully as she gave one last glance at her iPhone before tucking it back into the pocket of her hoodie. It was already getting halfway through the day with all the drama, the liquor trip, and the impromptu jam session. Were they going to try to get anything done after all of that or were they going to call it quits for the day?

Lifting her gaze, she cast a look at each of the other three band members in turn but decided to keep her mouth shut. It was Izzie’s band, after all, and after the rough start to the morning she didn’t want to ask anything. If worse came to worse and they split for the day, perhaps she’d stick around long enough to kick out a song or two. She had Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” stuck in her head for some reason.

Edei’s train of thought was always erratic at best so during the ensuing conversation she kept her lips zipped as her mind conversed with itself. Did I sound jealous? She asked herself and her eyes narrowed slightly, darting between Cormy and Craig as she tried to decipher the emotion behind her question. Why else would she care about whether or not her two bandmates fought over that gorgeous, blond
hooker that probably wasn’t good enough for either one of them and didn’t even have the decency to dress like a metal musician and instead seemed to wear shit replicated from Barbie’s wardrobe.

Fuck.

Maybe she was jealous. No, not jealous. Protective! That sounded so much better. She had no reason to be jealous since the two men were her band mates and nothing more. They hadn’t even hung out anywhere other than work so they barely even counted as friends. So that was it. She was being protective, not jealous. She simply didn’t want them to get their hearts broken.

Edei gave a satisfactory nod at the conclusion of her inner dialogue while cocking a brow in Izzie’s direction at the mention of a realistic ‘jam day’ and she refrained from asking about it since she too didn’t want jams or jellies ruined for her. Though her mind didn’t hesitate in trying to dig up a few scenarios which would make Izzie hate the foodstuff for the rest of her life, Edei didn’t hang onto the topic too long and instead she scooped up her bottle and took one last swig of the liquor before finding it a nice safe place to hide until they were done with their ‘jam session’ then she slipped on the strap of her bass, interrupting the conversation with a quick and angry bass line. She had been waiting for the chance to play again and she easily segued into one of the Psychosis songs that she had learned from their last record.

Going home and hanging out at her rather modest apartment after band practice hadn’t seemed like a fun idea. So instead, as soon as Psychosis dragged their asses out of the studio she had gone home long enough to shower and change into a tanktop and jeans before popping right back out of the door again.

But where to?She thought to herself, chewing on her lip as she strolled out to the sidewalk, letting the road stretch beside of her in either direction whiles she sorted out her choices for the evening.

She was hungry and Z’s didn’t exactly serve... Well, food. They were more of the peanuts and pretzels kind of dive bar that seemed surprised when you asked if they had anything of substance somewhere hidden in the back and though she knew Z well enough to waltz through his apartment on the way to grab liquor, she didn’t know him well enough to head upstairs and make herself a nice sandwich from his own fridge.

Hrmmm

Her head swiveled to the north, squinting in the direction as if trying to recall other places worthy of wasting time. Tricksters? No, too redneck. Arooga’s? Gah. Hell no! That was a sports bar
And a crappy one at that. Turning to face south, she adopted the same countenance as she pondered her options. She wanted something within walking distance so
.

O’Lordan’s! A rowdy Irish joint with tons of space, a menu full of pub grub and over 100 different choices of whiskey. Dimly lit for ambience and even though smoking was no longer allowed it still somehow maintained a smoky haze throughout. Always packed, there was usually room for people at the huge U-shaped bar in the center if they couldn’t find a table or booth somewhere else. What girl could say no to dinner at a place like that?!

By the time Craig’s text caused her phone to violently blare out her ring tone, she was sitting at that same U-shaped bar tucking into fish and chips while gesturing like an Italian while she told some fellow drinkers about the time that she thought it would be a great idea to show people how small she was by trying to slip through the bars of one of the cages at the local zoo. She had to wipe the inevitable grease from her fingers to grab her cell and text back, "Way ahead of you in the drink dept. I’m at O’Lordan’s down on 5th. Come on down!"

Then, since she didn't know whether or not Craig had texted the other bandmates, she took a picture of the liquor-lined wall behind the bar and sent the pic to both Izzie and Cormy along with the words, "Drinks? O'Lordans.". Short enough so that if Izzie wasn't in the mood to come out drinking, she wouldn't be pissed enough by the text that she would come down to the pub simply to vivisect Edei but the text was long enough so that at least Iz knew that she was invited. Edei had a sneaking suspicion that Izzie didn't hang out with too many people and goddammit if Edei was going to let the lead singer be a recluse! Well, unless she really wanted to be a recluse. The cards weren't really stacked in Edei's favor but she would keep on trying.

With those texts sent, she slipped the phone back into her pocket and downed the rest of her whiskey, pushing it towards the bartender with a grin. “Might want to start a tab, then. Looks like I’ll be here longer than I thought.”

When Craig received Edei's response he smiled down at his phone and typed up a quick message in reply. Be there in five. He pressed send, grateful he lived within walking distance from a good bar. It always came in handy in situations like this, when he either didn't know what to do or someone invited him over there for drinks. He dragged himself up off the couch, deciding he needed to at least put a shirt on and make himself somewhat presentable. He walked into his bedroom, digging through the piles of clothing for a clean shirt to wear since the minute he'd gotten home he'd tossed the one from practice onto his floor (probably to never be seen again). He finally found a black wife beater and pulled it on hastily. He called it good enough as he brushed his fingers through his hair and grabbed his keys and wallet off his bedside table, stuffing them into his pockets. He made his way over to the door and called to his roommate that he'd be back later to which his roommate replied with a simple, 'kay from his bedroom. The young guitarist shrugged and then stepped out into the hall, making his way down to O'Lordan's.

By the time Craig reached the bar it was almost exactly five minutes and there still wasn't a response from Cormac. He wasn't sure if that meant the drummer was asleep (although he didn't know how with that loudass ringtone he had) or he just didn't care to join them. Oh well, that would just mean he'd get to spend time with Edei himself which wasn't exactly something he'd complain about since he hadn't gotten the chance to do so before. He also wondered what Izzie was going to be doing tonight, however he was willing to bet if he asked her what she was up to that she'd promptly tell him to fuck off, even if he mentioned he was going to the bar. So, he decided to not bother texting her.

The joint was packed as usual and the guitarist dodged between the chatting and drinking people who were moving between tables, some already looking wasted to his surprise, so early on in the night. He considered texting Edei to find out where she was - probably around the bar if he had to guess, but if not, he figured could get himself a beer there anyway and then text her if she didn't turn up. As he neared the large u-shaped bar of O'Lordan's, however, Craig immediately caught sight of the bassist. Edei looked lovely as ever, talking animatedly to a few others around her. He took a seat to her left. "Hey." He said to her with a warm smile, resting his tattooed arms on the bar and then immediately ordering himself a beer.

Edei quite possibly looked a bit crazy each time that her phone blared its ring tone, signaling a new text and her painted lips would tilt into a lazy half-grin at whatever reply she was reading. Craig and Cormy were both actually coming down to hang out and she held out just the faintest sliver of hope for Izzy to join in as well but the next incoming text had her laughing. It was a short, sudden burst of laughter that caused the corner of her eyes to crinkle as she shot off a response to the lead singer/band leader/dictator extraordinaire.

”I can’t fuck off and die. I must complete my life’s goal of seeing you outside of the studio, one day!” She was going to finish it with the text-friendly less than three heart but decided that adding that little symbol might be crossing the line with Izzie.

So, she had to wait either 5 minutes or a ‘jiff’, whichever was the shorter length of time, and she stuffed her cellphone back into the pocket of her jeans whilst she passed the time. She just happened to be winding down another story when Craig slipped onto the stool beside her and she promptly abandoned her story and spun around so that she was angled towards the guitarist instead.

“Great minds think alike!” Her hand wrapped around her whiskey glass and she kicked back the rest of her Connemara before pushing the empty back towards the bartender for a refill. He had the bottle at the ready and poured her a double before uncapping a beer for Craig and sliding it his way before retreating to the next customer.

She hadn’t been aware that Craig had texted Cormy as well, so she decided to divulge the fact that they were being joined by the drummer as well. The more the merrier, right?! “Cormy’s going to join us too.” Her eyes slipped casually over the guitarist as another good-natured grin curved her lips. “Izzie, sadly, had a previous engagement and though she extends her regrets for not being able to attend our soiree she does hope to come to our next outing.”

She had to drag her lower lip between her teeth and bite down hard to keep from laughing out loud though even without the amusement dancing in her eyes she knew Craig would be able to call her on her bullshit.

As drinks were settled all around, Edei made a gesture to the bartender as she grinned. “Put these two on my tab, Trent. Ok?” Then from further to the right, one of the people she had been telling stories too earlier piped up, “Hey! Put me on your tab too, sweet cheeks!” Laughing good naturedly, Edei leaned back enough so reply, “Sorry, buddy. I like these two. You’re still
” Her hand shot out, seesawing back and forth as if she was unsure about her opinion on the guy. “Questionable.”

Another grin flashed over her lips as she settled back between her two bandmates, pushing her stool back ever so slightly so that the three of them could look at each other without either Edei constantly swiveling her head and without the boys having to look over her when they addressed one another.

Kicking back another sip of her whiskey, she reached out, clinking her glass against Cormy’s ‘Jameson-or-some-shit before twisting and doing the same with Craig’s beer. Only then did she finally respond to his earlier question, ” "She told you to fuck off and die in a fire, right?"”

“And no, no, no
” Shaking her head emphatically, Edei bit her lower lip to hide her grin. “She told me to fuck off and die in a hole. I’ve moved up from the fire threats
Or is that down?” A quick tilt of her head showed she was considering the two options whilst comparing them to one another. “Yep
I think this one is better. I would rather not be on fire so fucking off and dying in a hole is preferable.”

Edei hooked her feet around the back legs of her stool so that she wouldn’t be constantly swinging her legs back and forth and she cast a look at each guy with her brow arched slightly skyward. “And what ringtone is this and what are we changing it to? It can’t be as bad as the defaults even if it does give you a heart attack.”

She was going to add something else to the topic at hand but she didn’t exactly want to talk about ringtones and cell phones all night so instead she switched subjects like a person with attention span issues.

“So I take it Izzie doesn’t hang out much outside of work but you guys aren’t exactly bro-fisting either so does that mean no one in this band has simply
hung out before? You guys have had to have been through more reincarnations of the line up than I have.” That was a given, considering she was the newest member though she couldn’t quite recall how long either of the other guys had been with Psychosis. She just knew Izzie had been with it for forever, Cormy
Had he been with them since its inception? And Craig was newer but even he had been through at least one other band member- whoever the bassist was before her.

Edei went through two more whiskeys in the short span of time that it took the two men to answer her questions and when a lull in the conversation presented itself, she cast an incredulous look regarding their replies. “What do you mean you just try to stay on her good side?” The inquiry had left her lips before she realized that it might make her look dense and she pushed her now empty glass upon the bar to hold up both hands defensively whilst twisting slightly from side to side as if warding of incoming verbal attacks.

“Not what I mean. Lemme rephrase
” She dragged her lower lip between her teeth and worried at it slightly before trying again. “I mean
Maybe Izzie’s firing people left and right because she doesn’t feel a connection to ‘em
You know? If you don’t make an impact with someone then of course they’re going to easily cast you out of their life. I’m not saying we do fuckin’ trust falls with each other in some sort of weird ass team building exercise or anything but maybe we should
 I don’t know
”

She gestured vaguely as if the small movement would somehow emphasize her point before giving up with a slightly frustrated look. “I just think we should
.. Befriend her.”

Silence reigned for a moment and Edei realized her error. She had just tried to talk about feelings and shit with a couple of dudes. Goddammit.

Popping up from her seat unannounced, she threaded her way through the crowd towards the jukebox to give herself a moment to regroup. The musical selection was an array of bar classics lined up with a single pop album option which made her smirk slightly and she finally went with a Dropkick Murphy’s song to play upon the Irish theme of the bar. A blood red fingernail tapped upon “Dirty Glass” and she made her way back to her seat, slipping in between Craig and Cormy as she tried to pretend as if the previous monologue hadn’t even occurred.

“So
” Her slender fingers wrapped around her glass which the bartender had seen fit to top off during her absence and her mind flickered rapidly through questions she could ask the duo though most seemed too personal, too boring or too mundane. So instead she decided to continue asking the questions. Less pressure that way!

“How in the world did Izzie get you banned from a bar for life!?”
