"Go away, I don't like you."

a character in “Locked Out, or In?”, as played by UniqueYetUnoriginal

Description

Taylor Hoffman

Image

Nickname(s):
"Nope, I'm just Taylor."
Taytay, Hoff.

Age:
"Just look at my shirt."
Fifteen

Gender:
"Oh, I'm a guy. Note the sarcasm."
Female.

Assigned number:
"This is messed up. Why do I need a number, isn't a name enough?"
956

Building:
"What are you, a stalker?"
X

Mutation:
"I wouldn't call it a mutation.. more like a super power."
Taylor's mutation isn't really a mutation. She came down with the cough, and the next day she was... better, so I suppose it is a mutation. She is basically better at everything, smarter, faster, stronger, healthier. Not by much, if the human race's ability was 100%, hers would be 105%. She is hoping, overtime, that it might be more like 150%, but for now it's not too much of a difference.

Side Affects:
"Ughh, these are so annoying. If I were going to have side affects, I could at least have a better mutation, you know?"
- She is more vulnerable to diseases, and almost always has a cold. -
- She is always on a high, jumping around the place. -
- Unless she hasn't had enough high energy foods, in this case she will be sluggish all day. -

APPEARANCE

Image

Eyes:
"Brown."
Taylor has deep brown eyes that are framed by long eyelashes and nicely shaped eyebrows.

Hair:
"Same as my eyes."
Taylor's hair is a dark brown, almost black colour, which falls to just below her chest.

Complexion:
"Ehh, I'm not that pale.."
She personally would not describe herself as pale, but not overly tan, either.

Height:
"Oka, I'm short, alright?"
She's 5'3, not extremely short, but certainly not tall.

Any other features:
"My tattoo, and that's it."
Her ear tattoo is certainly one of the more larger ones, and more decorative too. It consists of musical notes running into her ear.

Weapons:
"Unless you include those really sharp knives in the kitchen, then nope."
None.

Clothing:
"You mean, apart from my indigo shirt?"
Taylor's outfit usually consists of her indigo shirt, some tracksuit bottoms, runners and her necklace.

PERSONALITY

Taylor is demanding, - in the sense she can be bossy - loud, - in the sense that she likes to get her point across - and conceited - in the sense hat she is always right . But on the bright side, she's very loyal. She will stick by her friends no matter what, making her extremely biased towards family or friends. She is a nice girl, putting others feelings into consideration, but won't stick up for someone unless she likes them - they should learn to take care of themselves! She's also very cunning, and though she usually acts on impulse with no planning whatsoever, her sharp mouth usually helps her get out of trouble, though it's usually her mouth that got her in trouble in the first place.. Oh, and if you couldn't tell already, she almost always is using sarcasm.

Favorite color:
"And how is this relevant?"
Silver, it seems like the optimistic way of looking at gray.

Hobbies:
"Oh, you know, saving the day. The usual."
Running, jumping, soccer, swimming, basically anything active, though she can't say she's good at all of it. She may be better than she was before, but that does not mean she's good. For example, she could never dance, and even though she's mildly better, she's still terrible.

Fear(s):
"Oh, the usual. Zombies, werewolves, the like."
- Becoming a baby maker. -
- Turning eighteen. -
- People sending her to wherever the hell all the people with the cough disappeared to. -

Introvert or extrovert?
"Oh, I'm shy. Never speak. Invisible, that's me."
If you couldn't tell, taylor was being sarcastic. She's an extrovert.

Optimist or pessimist?:
"I'm full of rainbows and sunshine!"
Mostly pessimistic, though sometimes optimistic.

Taylor felt her hope of finding any other mutations diminishing as she sat on the roof, a building that was scarily close to the hospital. She had been travelling for a while, trying to find others like her, on the run. Or maybe it was just her energy level diminishing. Either way, she wasn't feeling her best as a little girl and a man ran around the corner, into the alleyway.

The first thing that came into her mind was to hide. She sprung to her feet, stepping back so that she could just about see over the edge. She then realized that it was foolish to think that a girl so young would be working for the government. She stepped forward, peering further over the edge, trying to hear some conversation. "-an illusion, isn' it?" the little girl was saying. It made no sense to Taylor.

She thought about her chances if it was worth climbing down just to see if they eally were mutations. If they weren't, well, Taylor didn't have any weapons. She had been cursing the day she had left, not thinking to bring a weapon along, not even a kitchen knife. That seriously would have come in handy.

She finally decided to risk it. If she didn't find anyone soon, she was pretty much doomed, especially since her energy level was dropping, and she could already feel herself getting weaker. She placed a steady foot on the windowsill, before grabbing onto a pipe and climbing down. She didn't even think of how she might alarm them, just stood, waiting for a response.

Lily felt another person's thoughts in her head, so she looked around, trying to locate the person the thoughts originated from. She dismissed it though, because the thoughts weren't threatening. She was still pondering how they would even get into Clan Z when a girl dropped down from the roof. Lily assumed the was the person who's thoughts she heard. She didn't seem threatening, and in fact, based on her thoughts, she was like them. Her name was Taylor. She wondered if they were mutations. Lily took a sideways glance at Zachary, wondering if she should say she was a mutant in front of him. As far as she knew, nobody knew what her mutation was, except for Jess, but she was dead. An image of the flash of a gun and her collapse made Lily freeze, but she swiped the thought away.

Maybe Taylor could guess. Zachary would probably guess too, or at least have suspicions, but at least she wouldn't be saying it outright. "Hi Taylor. I'm Lily. This is Zachary. We are mutations. We don't want to hurt you," Lily glanced at Zachary "I don't want to hurt you."

Zachary completely dismissed the first question, as anyone with a head on their shoulders could figure out that, but her next question raised his eyebrow. She shouldn't have just deduced that from an illusion, but now wasn't the time. They were being chased, and the reason he needed her near him was to--

*Thump*

A girl appeared in front of them, unspeaking, but before Zachary could address her, Lily felt the need to do so.

"Hi Taylor, I'm Lily. This is Zachary. We are mutations. We don't want to hurt you," she said before glancing at Zach. "I don't want to hurt you."

By now, Zachary had a REALLY good theory on what mutation this young girl might have, and he hoped that she didn't mind that he knew, because if not, that wasn't the smartest move. He was a little caught offguard, but the sound of the guards from before took priority above anything and everything else. Being spotted was NOT something he wanted to happen, and looking like a dumpster only works if you sound like a dumpster. Dumpsters were silent, these two were not.

It was in one, swift movement that Zachary both lightly pressed the smaller child against the wall, and tripped the new girl, his hand placed directly over her mouth to suppress the obvious inevitable squeak. Not two moments later did the guards from before pass by, one shouting at the other. "Hurry up! They're going to get away!" Zachary kept perfectly silent until a few seconds after they turned the corner. It was only then that his hand slowly moved away from Taylor's lips. "Keep your voices down until I say otherwise." he instructed with a sigh. "I'm not here to hurt anyone unless I have to, but I guess one of you might already know that." his glance was now upon Taylor. "I'm assuming you survived the cough?" he asked casually, but didn't contradict his previous instruction by keeping his voice lower.

Taylor was starting to doubt her decision to approach the two people, when the girl spoke out.
"Hi Taylor. I'm Lily. This is Zachary. We are mutations. We don't want to hurt you,"the child paused, glancing at the man beside her. "I don't want to hurt you." Well, that didn't exactly fill her with confidence, but at least they were mutations too.

She felt like she had a million things to say; Ask what they were running from would be a good start. She opened her mouth to introduce herself when suddenly the man tripped her over, in the same movement that he pressed the little girl, Lily, against the wall. Okay, yupp, Taylor definitely had made a bad decision. She was good at making those.

He kept his hand on her mouth for a moment, whilst two guards passed by. He dropped his hand, before ordering; "Keep your voices down until I say otherwise. I'm not here to hurt anyone unless I have to, but I guess one of you might already know that." She really hoped that the last comment was referring to hurting guards, and not her.

He turned to look at Taylor. "I'm assuming you survived the cough?" he asked. Taylor just nodded, afraid to speak too loud. It would probably be a pretty easy way to get killed if she spoke too loud - either by the guards, or by this man here, afraid they would get caught.

A warm smile swept across Zachary's features as she nodded. Two for the price of one, he thought to himself. There's two more mutants that the government won't kill nor get their dirty hands on, he'd make sure. But unlike the government, Zachary didn't force people to go with him, and so he spoke in a low volume, still obeying his own orders. "Then if that is the case, I'll ask you to come with me." he began. "I can offer food, protection and decencey - three commodities that life seems to be lacking on for ones such as ourselves. However, I will not force someone to come with me and by all means are you..." he looked down at Lily. "... both of you allowed to simply go back to your family or go off on your own." he then explained informatively.

"I cannot say anything about where we're going until you agree, I'm afraid." he added.

Lily blinked once. She already knew where they were going, in fact he was thinking it right now: Clan Z. Which still confused her. Clan Z was destroyed. Everyone thought it, especially the guards and scientists back at the hospital. But he said he could offer food and protection, and it wasn't a lie, so she believed him. Maybe Clan Z wasn't entirely destroyed, she thought hopefully. "I already know where we are going," time to lay everything on the table. If he didn't know what her mutation was, he would know now. "And I won't go with you until you show me who you really are," she said, staring at him intently, hoping the image of a man with white hair and red eyes would flash again, but it didn't. she sort of hoped he would show her, because she had no family anymore. No place to go to. Not even Jess. She sucked in a breath and pushed the thought away. But she couldn't. It lingered there in her mind. Jess. Together they were unstoppable. What with her telekinesis and my mind controlling, we thought we would never get caught. But she died. And for me. And guess what her last thought was?

Maybe I'll tell you. Someday.

"Then if that is the case, I'll ask you to come with me," the man said. Taylor wasn't sure if this was a good or bad thing. "I can offer food, protection and decency - three commodities that life seems to be lacking on for ones such as ourselves. However, I will not force someone to come with me and by all means are you... both of you allowed to simply go back to your family-"

"I'll go," Taylor said, interrupting his sentence, but quiet enough that she wasn't even sure he heard her. She also just realized it was the first time she had spoken in front of them, which was out of character for her.

She was about to ask where they were going, when he added, "I cannot say anything about where we're going until you agree, I'm afraid." Well, then. She had agreed to go, but he hadn't heard her.

"I already know where we are going," Lily spoke up. Taylor raised her eyebrows slightly, eyes widening. All it proved to her was that both of these people had a way better mutation than her, and when they figured at what hers was, they were going to be pretty disappointed.
"And I won't go with you until you show me who you really are."

At this one, Taylor panicked mildly. What if the girl thought Zachary was a guard? What if he was a guard? What then?

"I already know where we are going, and I won't go with you until you show me who you really are."

Zachary let out a small sigh. His glance met Lily's and for a minute, he thought about changing. However, this thought was soon discarded from his mind due to a series of negative drawbacks. Showing her [i]now/i] was not worth the risk of being seen - not in the least. "You're just going to have to wait until we get to where we're going." he replied. "I tend to stick out in a crowd, and right now that is a fatal thing to do. But I can promise you that you can see me in all my glory once we're hidden and safe, okay?" he bargained. Well, not really. Honestly, he was holding all of the 'cards' at the moment, him having access to food and shelter while she was a little girl who wouldn't make it on her own most likely. Not to say it was impossible because Zachary himself proved that it wasn't, it was just improbable.

But, Zachary didn't want to leave a little girl behind so unlike a majority of people might do, he didn't outright say 'You don't have anything to bargain with', because Zach wasn't a cold person.... unless he wanted to be. "So again I ask: Can we go or do you want to get to know the government better?" he asked with a bit more sarcasm in his voice.

Lily folded her arms stubbornly, as being stubborn was one of the things she was good at. His thoughts didn't seem very bad. Nothing including how he planned to sell her to the government, use her powers for bad reasons, yadda, yadda, yadda. But the fact that he was not who he appeared to be set her on edge, and even confused her mind a little. She didn't like it. "Show me now," she said, her voice like steel. Sure, if she went off on her own, she probably wouldn't do so well. She had no one to go to. But she didn't like how he was blackmailing her. Two can play at that game. "Right now I don't trust you. I do bad things to people I don't trust," she said icily, which to most people would scare them witless. A cute little seven year old turned creepy sadistic psychopath? Let's avoid that alley, thank you very much. To prove her point, she tried to reach out to the minds around her. She sensed a woman, thinking something about 'someone being here!'. Though Lily would get a nasty headache, it was worth it.

She pulled the woman toward them, her eyes a little confused and her motions slow. She was now walking down their alleyway, eyes fixed on Zachary. In the woman's voice, Angel stole Zachary's thoughts and turned them against him. "You aren't holding all the 'cards'. I do have plenty to bargain with. Show me now. Now." She made the woman say in an erie voice. Finally, she released the woman, letting her own thoughts return. SHe looked around dazed, then walked off. Lily felt like collapsing and vomiting. Her headache came back five times worse. But she swallowed her pain. She had to look strong right now. She had to let him know she wasn't just a little girl.

If there had been an inkling of doubt that this little girl could read minds, it had been swept away by the little performance that she put on with the random pedestrian. Zachary watched, observed as some woman with sluggish movements addressed him in a tone he didn't really much care for, but nonetheless he was in a mix between amazement and annoyance. Amazed because this was, by far, one of the more powerful mutations he had seen, and at such a young age, she was able to control minds? Outstanding. However, this girl either had selective-mind reading or she just wanted to cause Zach as much trouble as possible, because still, she wanted to see him. Even with that little display, Zachary would not back down from a girl, regardless of her mutant abilities.

"Listen Lily." he said, dropping that tone he so desperately wanted to keep up at the moment. A small child managed piss him off, to an extent. Moreso irritation than anything, but still.... "Of two things I am absolutely certain. One is that your power is mind-based, and just like me, headaches might be one of your more prominant pains when you use your ability. Two, is that I am trying to be nice, to be friendly, and I am met with.... undesireable treatment when I only offer a warm welcome." he contineud on, his voice calming down as he spoke. "I shouldn't have to explain to you, specifically, why I don't want to do anything until we are in a gauranteed safezone. Too many negative possibilities to be worth it. But because you seem to want to play grown-up, and make demands, I'll treat you like one and let you choose what you do. I myself will be headed towards my home, and I don't mind if you follow."

Though his tone was somewhat stern and intimidating, he turned and began out the alleyway, as he said he might. Although, just before he turned the corner, his black hair turned white for a few seconds before turning back. "Your choice." he repeated as he turned it.

White! There it was again. So she knew she wasn't just seeing things. And sometimes, she often did see things that weren't there. One of the many side affects she received from her mutation. The white faded away again, but the image of him flashed before her eyes, partly because Zachary was thinking about it, and partly because she was remembering it. So he wasn't hiding anything. But now she understood why he didn't want to show her, and honestly, her brain hadn't even thought about it. Just the fact that he wasn't what he appeared to be and it made her uneasy. But she understood now, as he walked off down the alleyway. Lily giggled to herself, knowing that she had irritated him.

She skipped merrily afterward, as if nothing had happened. Maybe Lily was sadistic and mood swingy....I mean she is at the brink of insanity.

Suddenly, Lily stopped dead in her tracks. She heard thoughts she never had heard before. Someone was on the outside of the fence. There was never anyone on the outside of the fence. She listened carefully, still frozen, her breath sucked in. You should find out who he is. Someone on the outside could be important. Ah, and there is the voice Lily sometimes hears in her head. It wasn't someone else's thoughts. More like her own, but not really.

"there is someone on the outside of the fence," she finally said.

She watched in fear and amazement as the little girl controlled the woman, threatening Zachary to show his 'real self.' She felt scared, knowing the little girl could do so much. Well, Taylor's mutation was useless, wasn't it?

So, if the girl's power was mind-based, she could read minds? Taylor shivered mildly at this thought. She felt violated. And the girl could control midns, too, apparently. Okay, consider Taylor officially creeped out.

Lily wouldn't give up pestering the man who held their life in his hands, and Taylor was about to say, "Shut up and get moving!" when the little girl spoke.
"There is someone on the outside of the fence."

So, the girl had x-ray vision, too? This seemed fair. Why did the toddler get all the good mutations?

Lily closed her eyes, concentrating. Whoever it was, they were fairly far away. She had to strain to reach his thoughts, and it made her head dizzy. She really needed to sit down. Like, NOW. She opened her eyes and swiveled her head to turn back to Taylor, irritation evident in her eyes. "I don't have x-ray vision. And I'm not a toddler! I'm six," she said defiantly, not wanting to be thought of as a toddler. Lily walked forward again past Zachary, dipping behind another building then seeing the fence only a little while away. She strode toward it, making sure nobody was looking before she passed from building to building. She stopped in front of the fence, hearing the buzz of electricity coursing through it.

Peering through the chain-link fence, she spots a figure. The thoughts were clearer now. He was cautious about approaching the city. He should be too. If the government saw him there, she didn't know what would happen. Probably see if he was a mutant first off, see why he was there, make sure he wasn't a reject of east, west, or southgate, or someone they sent out earlier. He wasn't that far away now. She could tell he had a gun in his hands. Not good. Especially if the government saw that, it would be very bad.

Lily watched the figure lower the gun, when Zachary spoke up. "It isn't nice to lie." he said while chuckling slightly. "Nobody lives outside the fence, so lets stop playing for now and continue on, shall we?" he turned back and started to continue walking away. Lily turned around and narrowed her eyes. "I'm not lying." She said firmly before turning back around. The figure spoke. "...Now what is a child like you doing out here in the middle of nowhere alone?" Lily mentally sighed. She wasn't alone either. She picked up his thoughts of dead children in the wild and her eyes went wide. Dead children in the wild? How would they get out there? Then it hit her. The thoughts that buzzed around the scientists back at the hospital...it made sense now.

She picked through the figure's thoughts, trying to find his name. Normally, a person's name lingered at the back of their mind, because it was just apart of them, like engraved into their skull. Gregory, his name was Gregory. She turned around to face Zachary again. She couldn't control him with her mind. At least not now. She was too exhausted. In fact, Lily was surprised she was still standing upright. She sighed and turned back to Gregory. "I am not alone, Gregory," she finally said.

The little girl turned to face Taylor, looking annoyed. "I don't have x-ray vision. And I'm not a toddler! I'm six." Taylor blushed slightly. So the girl could read minds. And six wasn't very ol- She blocked the thought out before the child got annoyed again. She slightly scared her. She hoped that Lily was too busy looking for this person on the other side of the fence to read her thoughts.

The man, Zachary, spoke up. "It isn't nice to lie," he said, chucking slightly. "Nobody lives outside the fence, so lets stop playing for now and continue on, shall we?"
"I'm not lying," the little girl argued, her eyes narrowing, before turning back to the fence.

After a slight pause, Lily spoke, "I am not alone, Gregory." If this girl was telling the truth, then she had just told someone that Taylor and Zach were there. It was probably a government spy. She glanced over at Zachary to see how he was reacting.

Greg's first reaction to Lily was shock. How did this girl, who he was pretty sure he had never met before, know his name? Immediately he raised his rifle and aimed it at the group. "Who are you, and how did you know my name?" he demanded. He was getting freaked out, as various wild wasteland rumours came to him, but none of them made sense in this situation.

He saw two more figures approach and immediately began to back away, wondering if he should just give up on the idea of finding the secret of the dead children and just get back in his stryker and get the hell out of here. He made sure to keep his rifle trained on at least one of the three people at all times. "Stay back... All of you..." he warned as he continued to back away.

Zachary eventually decided that they were being serious about there being a man outside the fence, as stupid as that sounded. He let out a small sigh before turning back to Lily, who was now closer to the gate and had begun speaking to someone Zachary couldn't see just yet. So, he started back towards the girl and soon enough, he could see an older man holding some form of gun in his hands. He almost couldn't believe it. Why was there a guy outside the fence? Was he crazy?

By now, the man was having a mini-panic attack brought on by Lily's inability to keep an ability that could get them killed hidden. Not everyone knew about mutations, and some would feasibly shoot first, ask later. This guy had a weapon, but it almost seemed like he'd shoot and ask at the same time. A single, clear thought rose in Zachary's mind. Be quiet unless you want to die early, he thought simply, knowing that if Lily read any thought of his, it'd be this one first. After he figured she had gotten the point, he spoke.

Zach hadn't ever talked down a gunman in his life, but a frightened mutant was probably more or less the same. So, he would try his luck here, and if it seemed like the man was going to shoot, then Zachary would simply scare him away using his ability. But he didn't really want that. No, a man who has been living outside of a city? This was... interesting, and he didn't want that opportunity to slip his grasp. "That little girl is Lily." he said softly. "Niether she nor us mean you any harm and even if we did, there's this fence that halts us from getting to you." he explained in an attempt to get this man to calm down just a bit. But, now Zachary's curiousity could be seen, as he then asked. "...But do you live out there? Out of a city?"

Lily was very curious about this whole encounter. It was odd, hearing the thoughts of someone on the outside. They were noticeably different from those on the inside, and contained wisdom lurking in every corner of the moment. For a minute she just stood there, listening, even though she could feel the gun trained on her. She really couldn't stop the man from shooting. One, because she was too tired. And two, because she had tried. He was like a brick wall, unyielding. She hadn't noticed this before, but so was Zachary and Taylor. She frowned, her headache increasing.

Inwardly, Lily was wondering what a stryker was, and outwardly, she was staring Gregory down, her eyes soft, almost pleading, childlike. Yeah, Lily can be creepy. But she can also look innocent. "I don't mean you any harm. I am simply curious. Taylor, he isn't a government spy. Zach, he wouldn't kill us, he is just cautious. Besides, you should listen. He could be a viable asset to your...group. He has outsider information. Rumors about dead children?" she mused. "Gregory. I mean no harm." she said, adding as much persuasion as she could, to convince him. She didn't know if the mind tricks would work on his unyeilding mind, but she could certainly try.

Gregory slowly lowered his rifle, but made sure to keep a grip on it, ready to bring it up at a moment's notice. "...how did... Lily... know my name?" he asked. "And for your information, yes, I live out "there", whatever you post apocalyptic city folks call it." he said. He debated what to do, but in the end he decided that these were... theoretically civilized people, and although they did look armed, they didn't seem to point any weapons at him, which was nice.

"...So you guys are city dwellers?" he asked cautiously. "...been living your entire life behind the relative safety of this electric guardian?" he was, of course, referring to the electric fence. He had no idea this girl was probing his mind, and right now her pleading eyes reminded him of the children that were lying dead outside, and he wondered if she could have ended up as one of them; if she could have ended up as one of the children he passed on his Stryker on the way here.

In the end, that single possibility allowed him to trust them... somewhat.

"...how did... Lily... know my name?"
Presumably the whole 'reading minds' thing.. she thought, but didn't say it aloud. If Lily wanted to share her mutation, that was her decision, not Taylor's.

"...So you guys are city dwellers?" Gregory asked. "...been living your entire life behind the relative safety of this electric guardian?"
"I'd hardly call it a guardian.." Taylor muttered, as Zachary answered his question.
"Yes, we've lived here for our whole lives. In fact, I've never even heard about someone living outside the city since before the Fuzz. And judging by your reaction, your in my situation, only reversed." Zachary gave the man a look up and down. "But I wouldn't say 'safety' at least, not for us." Zachary did not expand on this - Lily and Taylor knew what he was talking about. He gave a sigh as he continued. "Well, I'm not even sure what the government will do with you if they find out, but it probably won't be pretty. I suggest that either you turn tail and run, or come with me.... but you would have to find a way in unnoticed."
