Personality: Grim. - Just kidding, once you meet her you'll see. Besides it's not easy to come up with interesting personality.

Biography: Grim, a player rather disliked by people for one thing - PK. The amount of players she killed was never counted, but is considered high. Question is how the hell could one enchanter do it? No one knows, but most assume cheats, or that she had friends. So Grim being infamous never trully had a guild, nor a team that is known to anyone. Grim even went so far to avoid cities as much as possible. Just to not bother with more people either angry at her, or afraid... of her.

When the catastrophe occured, Grim just happened to be in a middle of grinding new item, one of the few artifacts, that could be grinded alone, but at a cost of them being weaker. Third day of grinding was horrific, Grim was inches from falling asleep in front of a pc. Only one glove found, the usual terrific grind, but better than that of artifacts you try to get in a group. Just one though about grind... is enough to make sleep the greatest thing in the world now. Sadly no sleeping yet. She still needed that one Glove of Arkaisha (came in a smaller patch before the major update - idea, but why not, expands the world ^^). That meant another whole day of grinding, all while the update downloaded in the background.

Well... no, Grim got lucky this time, with five more hours glove was found and download finished. It's a nuisance that each has to be grinded separately...

Now she only had to equip them and...

"Finally..." - with these words Grim fell asleep, not in own world, but in a Log Horizon.

So begins...

Josua listened to her answers to his question, and he understood much of what she said. Granted, restarting the gates with a new spell would be possible. And that ties back to the second matter he explained before: the possibility of doing things by ourselves, not with the game system. However, he then thought again once more.

While it made sense, there's this catch that I'm getting here. Restarting the transport gates isn't exactly a cakewalk, since the amount of power that the gates required was probably an arseload of power. Granted, spells could power the gates, then again, how powerful the mage(s) must be and for how long? he thought for a little after hearing her answers.

"Pffft~ Hahahahahahaha!!!" He laughed when he saw Grim's expressions that were easy to read.

Jesus, this girl is so easy to read! he thought in his mind as he settled down.

"Sorry, sorry. I just never met anyone like you." he said to her after calming down.

"And to answer your question: yes, I understood everything you said." he answered.

"Though here's the thing: We don't know the exact nature of what kind of spell is needed to power the gates. I'm paraphrasing from a certain series here: We need to understand the structure of magic that powered the gates originally and what can be done to make our own version to power it once more." he explained his opinion.

"And we haven't talked about the nitty-gritty of the spell here. Is it a continuous spell? How much MP would be needed to maintain the spell? And for how long? How do we keep it running in case we ran out of mages with necessary MPs?" he then further explained.

"So far, do you understand what I'm saying?" he then asked her.

The moment she panicked, he read it, and laughed... then said sorry? That hurts, she thought.

"Sorry, sorry. I just never met anyone like you." - He said. I avoid people, so no surprise there.

"And to answer your question: yes, I understood everything you said." - At least that's a good thing. Really good thing, I don't want to explain it again... ever.

Finally she relaxed, leaned back, as he continued.

"Though here's the thing: We don't know the exact nature of what kind of spell is needed to power the gates. I'm paraphrasing from a certain series here: We need to understand the structure of magic that powered the gates originally and what can be done to make our own version to power it once more." - Long opinion, and it would be continues, she thought, as long as what happened yesterday is connected.

"And we haven't talked about the nitty-gritty of the spell here. Is it a continuous spell? How much MP would be needed to maintain the spell? And for how long? How do we keep it running in case we ran out of mages with necessary MPs?"

He's still talking? - She blinked - why is he still talking? Ah, well, the answer to that might be found... somewhere? Somewhere in this world, or by experimenting. I'll go with the second - she smiled lightly, then heard another question, and winced.

"So far, do you understand what I'm saying?" Really, do I understand? Yes! I'm a good listener, I suck at explaining things under pressure! She thought, and nodded lightly, All while saying a barely audible yes.

Josua noticed that Grim was less than comfortable when he was explaining his thoughts. Granted, it was long, and it wasn't exactly something that people like Grim would enjoy. He only barely heard a "Yes" from her when he asked her if she understood what he was saying or not. It wasn't like he enjoy explaining a lot of things here, but in this world, any information is basically treasure in the first few days or even months in this new world. Although, pushing such mindset to others isn't something that he would do, mostly he'd just say that it's important to pay attention to things that we'd normally miss and try to think outside the box: just the typical stuff to get people to think creative without pushing them too far. He's not a nice person to always help people, though he's not a bad person to just abandon others helpless either.

"I simply stated my thoughts on those matters. It's long, even though I summarized it, I know." he said to her as he gave her a full apple from his magic bag.

"Are you okay?" he then asked her.

Yeah... yeah, I'm fine - she accepted the apple, and without hesitation took a bite. She didn't want to tell him that, she didn't want to tell anyone about it. And it is definitely not a reference to "It" book, or movie, though she loves both.

Do you... by chance have any mage staff, that I could use? Kind of embarrassing, but mine... is lost. - Staff called Lost, is lost. Best left hidden from him, it would sound dumb, and... who names staff Lost? Probably no one. Well, expect for her friend.

"A staff, huh... Lemme see what I got." Josua replied to her when she asked him if he had any staff.

Granted, he was an Assassin and also a Blacksmith at that. He usually deals with metallic alloys to create weapons & armors, with weapons being his forte. His armor creation were good enough for him to at least have several regulars, since he couldn't wear it himself. Despite that, however, he did come across some wooden equipment that were given to him since the others at the time didn't want it.

He rummaged through the list of weapons in his inventory. He didn't found any staff that met her level. Most of them are at least level 70 and above. He then remembered that there were other weapons that the class Sorcerer could use.

"If I remember correctly, the Sorcerer class can use other weapons aside from a staff, no?" he asked her.

He then pulled out several short swords that he had in his inventory. While not exactly ideal for a Sorcerer's usage, it's still better than nothing. Most of the short swords were in the shape of Keris, exclusive to the Southeast Asia server, and typically found in the Malay Peninsula & Archipelago.

Well, not what I wanted, she thought, but good for more experiments.

— Fine enough, if I can have one, then thanks... - and when it comes to which one... she liked the middle one out of all the most. Due to it having bluish color, but light, and a signs of small cold aura. - Maybe it can be strengthened with magic, she thought, as she continued to stare at it.

— This one, if I may.

"Hmm? This one? Sure." Josua said to her when she asked for the one in the middle.

It was a dark blue Keris short sword. He then checked the name of the weapon. Azure Rim was the name of the weapon when he checked the details of it. A level 60 Short Sword with the shape of a Keris. He didn't remember it quite well, but it was a reward from a dungeon that he did near the Ancol Beach.

Since he never used it himself, it wasn't much of value to him, thus he was more than willing to give it to Grim. He could already forge a better attributed weapon of the same level with his current skill. The endless amount of grinding in making swords & armor... That was something that gave him slight chills whenever he thought of the memory.

OOC - I'm quite sure that in the earlier post she saw the blade as bluish, but light... not dark ^^

— Cool, thanks again - she said, took the sword, and... that's it. Hidden in the backpack for now.

Question would be... what now? - she thought.

OOC - Now that the sword is described... well I guess short one. I'm out of ideas for now.

"Well now that we got that out of the way." Josua said before he took a gulp on the last remaining water in the bottle on the table.

"This morning, I contacted Shiroe and he said he's going for Susukino in place of her friend for something." He said as he put down the now empty bottle.

"He said that the state of Susukino right now is pretty much what I'd call a hell hole." he continued.

"Susukino got taken over by a guild called Brigandia. They're currently ruling the place in a... Less than favorable way." he further said.

"That's pretty much the only info that I got on any place outside Akiba." he said as he took out another bottle of water.

When he first heard the known situation in Susukino, he was surprised. The fact that there were no other guilds that tried to fight Brigandia to prevent them from gaining control over Susukino was frightening on its own. This suggested that there were not many guilds there that could rival Brigandia. Then again, what he could do about it now? It's not like him or Grim could do anything about it. Even Shiroe, from the tone of his words, was aware that it would be impossible to try and free Susukino without a sizeable force that's at least comparable to Brigandia.

"Well, I suppose that's all that I got on me right now. I wanna try something, so if you wanna follow me, feel free to do so, or not as well." he said to Grim as he got up from his chair and left the Guild Center.

Talking, talking, talking... too much. My head... - it was too much, but she listened anyway. About the Shiro guy and Susukino something. Why care about another city anyway? - she thought, while he said:

"That's pretty much the only info that I got on any place outside Akiba." All while taking out another bottle of water.

Well, fine, it's an information about other place, so... maybe useful. But not now. Why does it always...

"Well, I suppose that's all that I got on me right now. I wanna try something, so if you wanna follow me, feel free to do so, or not as well." He said, got up... he's leaving! Finally! - she got up as well, time to do other things has arrived, but...

This is problematic, on one hand going to sleep right now is such a perfect choice, on the other satisfying own curiosity is important. Ahhh, curse it.

She followed. Not too happy about it, but hoping it will be at least... worthwhile.

Josua then went to his "camping" spot and prepared his forge set from his inventory. Normally, he would have to interact with the menu by choosing what he wanted to forge and the ingredients for the item. Instead, he took out the items and began to forge manually. He had watched quite the number of videos on forging prior to the Catastrophe, so he had some idea on how to forge things like a sword, or at least how to deal with metallic items. He heated the metal he chose, a low-leveled iron (in case if it fails, he won't lose much), to the point of it being bright, and pounded it with his hammer for a set amount of hits. After that, he heated it again and hit it again with his hammer at the same amount of hits. The process repeated several times until he reached the shape he wanted, and quenched it in oil and let it cool for some time. After it was cooled, he grinds the shaped metal until it was at the sharpness and smoothness that he wanted. He then puts on the remaining components: guard, handle and pommel and finished the object. It took him about three hours or less to complete it. It was a low-leveled sword, which he called as Test #1, since he wasn't planning on using it anyways.

"Well, what do you think?" he then asked Grim.

Awfully lot of time felt wasted. - She said, with a smile. What he did was interesting, time consuming, and proved to have its use. But still an awful waste of time it was. Nonetheless it would seem that just like in real life everything needs time to be completed. Best question in this situation would be, does time vary depending on what is done?

- Now someone should check whether time varies depending on what you do, and how high quality item it is. Or not.

"It would be a great idea, but not yet. Until someone else can do this but with other jobs, I don't wanna charge in that blindly" Josua said to Grim.

"Besides, if I remember correctly, aside from several people in this city at the moment, I'm probably one of the highest-leveled Blacksmith prior to the launch of the new expansion pack." he continued as he puts away the sword into his magic bag.

Since this basically worked, though he doesn't know on how effective the items forged by his own hands were in actual combat, it confirmed his thoughts: with the appropriate class, one can do what the job usually entails, even without the usage of menus, and it could even be different than existing items.

"Well then, I'm gonna do this. Feel free to get some sleep near the fireplace on the top floor." he told Grim as he got several more ores out from his magic bag.

He then began forging something that was on his mind for a while since he thought of it: a simple Musket. He then began smelting the ores and form them into ingots. Once they were cool enough to be taken out from the mold, he then heated the ingots and began to shape it into what resembles a basic pipe, which will become the barrel. After another couple of hours of trial and failure of making the barrel, he finally finished the barrel. The next step was to make the grip and the stock of the Musket (historically, the two are made into one). Since he can't craft it from wood, being a Blacksmith, he then decided to make it from a mix of iron and some aluminium ingots. Alongside the grip & the stock, he also made hinges and bolts to help attach the barrel to the gun's body. He heated the iron-aluminium alloy ingot and began forging the grip/stock. As the object began taking shape, he could feel that the air around him was changing. After some time, he finally finished the grip/stock. He then attached the barrel to the grip/stock, held together with the hinge & bolt he made, just above the grip. He then saw the notification:
Congratulations! The [Firearm] has been completed! What would you like to name it?
As the toggle asked him to name the new object, he called simply as the Musket. Granted, it's slightly different than what he initially planned, with it not exactly needing fire to ignite the gunpowder. However, since MP would be the necessary factor to help fire the gun, it could be used by all class as a secondary weapon, or with this he could basically create a new class: the Gunslinger, or whatever name a class that uses guns would be called. He then went up to the top floor and showed Grim the new gun.

"Never thought this would actually be a thing, especially in a game like Elder Tale." he said to her as he handed her the gun.

— Alright, whatever you say - she didn't care, and the moment a proposition of sleeping came... she lied nearby, and fell asleep. It would seem she can sleep anywhere.

While he continued to forge, to experiment... she had a dream. About one crazy raid they did in this game, she and friends. Queen's insanity, was it called, or maybe... no it had to be Queen's insanity. Final boss - A naga Queen. Tough, especially with five random people they found to beat it. Die, and repeat, die and repeat. Was how it looked like most of the time. Thirty days just to get to final boss, randoms would have left, if not for Haro. His ability to hold people together, and make them laugh, was amazing.

Josua stopped working, she could hear it, funny because she's sleeping - maybe a perk of being a vampire. Always knowing what is going on all around... - she opened her eyes, slowly got up to sitting position.

She didn't even have to ask whether he finished or not. She could see it, he made a gun, a gun of all things! In a game that never (till now) saw such thing. Nor had.

"Never thought this would actually be a thing, especially in a game like Elder Tale." he said, all while handing it to her.

— You're not the only one. - She muttered. It really looked like a gun, but can it be used? One way to find out, she got up.

— Time to test it. - He could hear, all while she set up a sound barrier, so no one would hear the gun being fired. If it even does. Then again with magic she put up one boulder in front of another - to see how far will the bullet will penetrate.

— Say, will it go through both, or just one? - She asked, and fired. Or rather tried to...

No ammunition - showed on her screen.

Oh, uh, crap, she thought and looked at him.

— can you make bullets too, so we can fully test it?

"Hmm? Ammo? Here ya go~" Josua said as he handed over some of the munitions he made while making the gun.

Granted, the gun functioned slightly different than what he had in mind. However, if it needed munitions, then it's the kind that requires actual projectiles, not the kind that only needs MP to create one inside the barrel and fire it at will. He suspected that this might happen, but still, it somewhat bummed him since this would mean he will be limited by the amount of munitions one could have.

"As far as I know, on point blank or close range, Muskets are stupidly deadly. But as the range goes further, the accuracy decreases. However, I have no idea if such mechanism will be a thing or not in this world." he explained to Grim.

"It's entirely dependent on this test run. So, we'll have to see the results first and work from there." he further said to her as he signaled her to reload the Musket and fire the loaded firearm.

— Thanks.

She loaded the "musket" while he seemed to be... thinking. Then she heard him...

"As far as I know, on point blank or close range, Muskets are stupidly deadly. But as the range goes further, the accuracy decreases. However, I have no idea if such mechanism will be a thing or not in this world." God, why does he have to talk so much. Besides I kinda know the musket, though more modern... things are my thing, she thought.

"It's entirely dependent on this test run. So, we'll have to see the results first and work from there." Gun Fired, reloaded, fired... and again reloaded.

— There seems to be something off with it. Did you make it from low-grade materials?

"Low-grade? Nope. I made it from mid-grade materials, if you're talking about the gun. As for the munitions, they're also the same, but they're mostly leftovers from the forging of the gun." Josua explained to Grim.

He felt slightly insulted when she called those materials as low-grade. Granted, it's made from a mixed alloy of iron and aluminium, hence the cheap feel. However, it wasn't as hard to produce as a pure, proper round would. Since this was a test-run, he wasn't thinking of shaping the rounds proper, hence it's still in the shape of metallic balls. When she said something was off, he couldn't really tell what she meant by that. The gun wasn't perfect, but it was made meticulously by him, so the chances of it being faulty was almost none. Hence, he assumed that it's probably the rounds that were not that perfect yet. He made two sets of munitions for the test-run, one in the shape of balls and the other that were like handgun rounds from the real world.

"Here's a set of more rounds. They're much more... Proper, so to speak." he said as he gave her the set of munitions.

Sure, she took it, maybe this set will work better. At least she hoped so, and loaded the gun. Fired, reloaded, fired...

— Still the same, well, slightly better. I think it might be connected to me being a spellcaster.

"Ah, that's probably why..." Josua realized when he heard Grim's explanation.

Since he wasn't using gunpowder as the main propellant, instead it relies on the MP of the user. Grim being a spellcaster would of course affect the performance of the gun, since it would mean that the adjustment for the amount of MP required to fire the rounds would be much more precise, hence there would be a noticeable difference compared to when a non-mage class used it. If he was the one to use it, his control, while it would be somewhat more precise, wouldn't be able to compete with a mage who usually casts spells as their primary way of combat or support. While this would cause a learning curve for others to go through, it'd be better than just letting anyone use the gun without proper understanding of its mechanism, especially in this new world they're all stuck in.

"I'd say try to feel the MP you're about to pour through the gun. It's a bit hard to explain, but I think your avatar might already know how to do so." he then said to Grim as he gave her another set of rounds.

She glanced at him, shot - bullet went forward, then curved, came back and hit Josua in the arm.

— You mean like that? - She couldn't help but grim, done on purpose, just to have a bit of fun.

— Also not just MP. I just imagined it happening. - Just like with the spells, she added in thoughts.
