Dominant Emotion:
Utmost Confidence

Personality:
Fintan has a very powerful personality that can annoy some and cause intense hatred in others. Since many people don't really care for him because he can be irritating, if you are his friend, he will treasure you all the more. He can be very hotheaded, the longer he goes without training or using his powers. The fire builds up inside of him and makes him very angry so he tries to train everyday.
Fintan likes to think he's pretty powerful and confidence actually makes him stronger, unfortunately, being confident all the time has made him a little cocky and he's always up for a good fight. Even though he appears to be very outgoing and open about nearly everything, he does have some hobbies he prefers to keep quiet. These hobbies show who he really is as a person and they're a very vulnerable part of him which is why he doesn't want to show them; he doesn't want to show weakness. These past times are bug collecting and reciting poetry.
Finny has been collecting bugs for years now, ever since his adopted father showed him how to catch crickets without hurting them before pinning them in a shadow box. The hobby reminds him of good days with his family that he hasn't heard from since the "Incident" with his last school. However, his Demon reminds him quite frequently that it is a "creepy idea of fun" so he keeps the collection hung up in the back of his closet.
Poetry has hit a soft spot with him for quite a while.

Likes:
Reading, FOOD, Being the Most Attractive Person in the Room, Training, Progress, His Demon, Working Hard, Winter Time
Dislikes:
Needles, Water, the Cold, Crying Babies/ Women, Stinging Insects in General, Allergy Season, Being Lazy

Talents: {At least 5 please. These are not super powers, remember, so please, tone them down a bit. Such as writing, certain sports, karate, etc.}

Flaws:
Algophobia- the fear of pain
Aquaphobia- The Intense fear of Drowning
Incredible Cockiness
Obnoxious, therefore few people like him

Weaknesses:
Algophobia- the fear of pain
Aquaphobia- The Intense fear of Drowning
Incredible Cockiness
Obnoxious, therefore few people like him
Soft on Women and Children

Hobbies:
Foreign Languages- Fintan is a quick learner when it comes to foreign languages, his favorite being Latin. Unfortunately, most of the languages he knows are not really applicable to real world instances. He only knows a few popular languages that people actually use such as French and German.
Doodling- His drawings are never actually any good, but they are a huge stress reliever for him and he uses them to release some pent up emotions, good or bad.
Poetry- He doesn't actually write the poems, but he recites poetry to himself if he's in a good mood.
Piano- Fintan's parents insisted that he learn how to play the piano at a relatively young age, he's grown to the like the instrument and plays if he has the chance. He can also play a few Ramones songs on the guitar as well as Wonderwall.
Insect Collecting- Although he keeps it kind of secret, Fintan collects insects and pins them in little storage boxes. Vergil finds it a morbid hobby, but Fintan enjoys it.

Powers:
Fire Vaccum- A cylinder of flame will consume a single individual and suck away the oxygen and will either suffocate the victim or burn them.
Spontaneous Combustion- With enough concentration, Fintan can increase the body temperature of an individual is he is standing a few feet from them and incinerate them from the inside out.
Flame Dart- The power that uses the least amount of energy. Fintan can shoot tiny, dart-like flames out of the tips of his fingertips. This power isn't really used to hurt, but distract.
ImageLucifer- Fintan can fuse his fire with his favorite sword and create a deadlier weapon.
Quick Hands- Fintan can set his hands on fire and use hand-to-hand combat. He can also use this ability to melt through metal if neded.
Part the Sea- In an emergency situation that includes burning buildings or the like, Fintan can sweep roaring flames to the side to allow an exit or escape route. This lets him manipulate already existing flames
Roaring Wave- Fintan can create a wave of flames, only about waist high that rush towards enemies and can usually catch 3-5 people in its clutches.

Special Power:
Firestorm- An energy consuming power that unleashes uncontrollable blasts of roaring flames that explode outwards from Fintan to a radius of 31.4 to 42.98 feet, but soars upwards into the sky at an astonishing 143 feet according to Finny. He hasn't really mastered this and can't protect those around him if he uses this, therefore, he won't resort to this unless he knows the people around him will be safe.

Light

Hapkido
Swordplay
MMA
Kickboxing
Self Defense

Typical Attire:
If he's not in a training session, Fintan actually dresses up in a white button down shirt with a blue tie and black dress pants about everyday with little variation. While this choice in clothes might seem restrictive, it actually works quite well for him.

Keepsakes:
A small, silver mechanical wristwatch from his grandfather

History:
Fintan was adopted by his current parents and they didn't know much about his history, especially not the fact that he could manipulate fire. When he started to show these signs around the age of eleven or twelve, his parents were naturally very shocked, but furthermore, they didn't know what to do. They taught him to conceal the power and press it down inside of him so that no one would know. He was taught to hate that part of him and since his powers were brewed from anger, the longer he held it inside of him, the angrier he became. He became such a furious little boy that his parents sent him away to a boarding school to discipline him. It was a miserable place in a hot valley with nothing to do except study and get into trouble. Fintan did more of the latter rather than the former and it made his experience at the school worse and worse until one day he couldn't hold back his temper anymore and he lashed out at the Headmaster and accidentally set the school on fire. With the help of the hot day and the dry weather, it wasn't long until the school merely ashes in the smoldering grass. As the authorities arrived and were investigating the cause, naturally not believing the outlandish story received from the Headmaster, Fintan ran away into the valley, afraid of what he'd done and what his punishment would've been. However, he noticed that after his release, the fury that burned so fiercely in his stomach subsided and he was faced with quiet serenity he hadn't felt in years.

After about a day of walking, the severity of the situation was resting heavily on his thirteen-year-old shoulders and he stopped at a diner in a town he came across. While he was there, the waiter slipped him a letter along with his bill. This letter was his invitation to join the Lone Sin Guild. A promise that his life would get better and that he could control his powers. How could he possibly refuse? As he was about to leave the diner the waiter stopped him and revealed that he would escort the boy to the guild, apologizing that he waited so long to reveal himself.
"Sorry," he had apologized with a sheepish grin, "I tend to put stuff off, but I'm here now. My name is Vergil, I'm your Demon. Just follow me, buddy."

Other:
While it seems that Vergil and Fintan have a rough relationship, they appreciate each other very much and treasure their friendship like brothers.

Image
Dominant Emotion:
Serenity

Personality:
Vergil is extremely relaxed to nearly the point of laziness and he is usually quite neutral on most matters. He usually irritates Fintan because of the way he speaks. Vergil's vocabulary consists of hesitant words like, "I mean", "y'know", "like", "um", and "uh". He uses them so frequently because it gets under Finny's skin and that is one of his favorite past-times. If one were to compare his personality to anything, the closest comparison would probably be a summer day. He's bright, relaxed, sweet, brings thoughts of yellow, and does no work.

His demeanor completely changes if Fintan is in danger or needs help. He becomes a dangerous adversary and constantly trains without rest until he's ready to fight for him. His calm nature turns stony and he would have no trouble snapping a neck if Fintan so asked him to. Vergil would gladly throw away his comfort zone to ensure Finny would slip back into his. While this is the case, if Finny has a fight covered or Vergil believes he will win, he will sit down off to the side, maybe eat an orange Popsicle. Perhaps he'll listen to some Gustav Holst while he's at it.

Likes:
Teasing Fintan, Fintan, The Sun, Lazy Days, Silence, Knowing Secrets, Summer Days, Swimming on Hot Days

Dislikes:
The Dark, Alleyways, Busy Cities, The Perfume Aisle in Stores, Thick Crowds, Finny's Bug Collection, Spiders, Keeping Secrets

Talents:
Writing Poetry, Sleeping, Memorizing "Phobias", Cooking (but only desserts! Everything else he's crap at), Training For Long Lengths of Time if Needed

Flaws:
He hardly gets anything accomplished unless he has a real motive
He doesn't ever really train because he doesn't care enough to most of the time
He can't lie despite being a Demon, it makes his stomach ache

Weaknesses:
He can't refuse food
Will sacrifice anything to protect Fintan
A huge procrastinator and puts off important things to do constantly
Has a fear of being afraid (Phobophobia)
Fintan

Hobbies:
Relaxing on the Couch
Listening to CD's
Pretending to listen to CD's
Ignoring Fintan
Video Games
Procrastinating

Attending banquets he wasn't actually invited to so he can eat the food there

"This is so pointless, it's not even a huge problem," Fintan complained bitterly under his breath, his eyes locked on the concrete sidewalk as he trudged along towards the train station where he was supposed to meet up with the new Guild Master as well as the Guild Members. The boy heard a low chuckle behind him.

"I can tell, you're gonna be a big hit with your team mates, Finny," his demon, Vergil promised sarcastically, biting into an orange Popsicle he had bought somewhere along the way. Fintan stewed in silence, his morale and mood at a pretty low point in his journey. Truthfully, Fintan was dreading meeting the other Guild Members. He'd never been what one would call "popular" and if he was supposed to work alongside these people, he hoped he wouldn't be as hated as he was at his last school. This thought settled down on him with little to no positivity, very unlike his usual upbeat attitude. He didn't even realize that he had stopped walking until Vergil pointed it out.

"Are we still going places or have you decided to desert?" he asked with a tone that didn't sound like he was serious, but also didn't seem like he was joking. Fintan's gaze snapped upwards to the street, breaking out of the glum thoughts. He turned to send Vergil a dirty look, shaking the handle of his black, wheeled suitcase full of clothes and a few possessions.

"I imagine we'd get there a lot faster if you weren't sitting on my bag! Get off!" Fintan demanded nastily as the demon held on tightly to his seat, shoving the whole Popsicle into his mouth to get a better grip.

"You know I get tired easily, don't take your anger out on me!" Vergil shouted around the melting treat. Fed up, Fintan flipped the bag over backwards, dumping his lazy demon on the pavement with a thud. Vergil slid the ice out of his mouth, his tongue stained a brilliant hue of orange as he stuck it out at his friend. Fintan smirked lightheartedly at the boy, reaching his hand out to help him up.

"C'mon, buddy, your bones aren't made of jelly, lets get moving," he requested lightly, pulling Vergil up and checking his silver wristwatch for the time, "Your shenanigans are going to make us late."

"MY shenanigans?! You're the one stopping in the middle of the road!" Vergil shouted out defensively, jogging after Fintan's brisk walk.

It was only a few minutes later that he arrived at the train station, pulling his suitcase up the stone steps one at a time as Vergil complained about staircases the whole way up. Once they reached the top, Fintan and Vergil realized that the train station was practically empty save for a dark looking figure and a young boy. Fintan recognized them after a second. He had only briefly met with the Guild Master Cathal and his own demon Yukine. He brightly approached the two of them, Vergil following silently behind him as the demon finished the Popsicle and began to suck the remaining flavor off of the wooden stick.
"Hey, Master Cathal, nice to see you and Yukine again. I hope we aren't late," Fintan grinned amicably, glancing at his watch once more to check the time.

Image_Lucca glanced down at his watch. He felt extremely anxious. "They're on their way Lucca, you can't be so anxious. They're coming from around the world, and so are you," Casey said with a smile as she leaned back in the her seat. They sat in a rather fast train on their way to Harrogate Train Station. "Yes, and you're sure about this how?" Lucca asked with a smile as he looked over at Casey. She shrugged slightly. A man walked by along the aisle, looking at Lucca a little oddly as he observed Lucca talking to what he saw as thin air. Lucca ignored the odd look as he leaned back in his seat, breathing deeply.

"How much longer? It's nearly time for us to be there," Lucca muttered as he looked to his friend again. She looked up from picking at her nails. "Time on a train can't be helped unless you travel through the bathroom. I doubt you'll find a substantial shadow to take you though," She says with a smile, motioning with her head in the general direction of the station. Lucca nods, taking a deep breath. "Well-... There's the station, Casey. See you in a bit," Lucca says as he catches sight of the train station.

He could buy a cup of coffee there, couldn't he? He hadn't ever been to the station, never having a reason to and was somewhat concerned he wouldn't find his way about. North Yorkshire had just never been a place he'd wanted to visit really, more focused on trying to get back to the mainland European countries.

He was one of the first standing, grabbing his duffel bag from below his seat, then rushing for the exit, one of the first off. His first target, the nearest coffee stand. He approached quickly, handing over three or four too man euros but not really caring as he accepted his coffee and took off again without accepting the change, not really needing it.

He stopped, catching sight of a bench. He made his way towards it, figuring he just needed to calm down. Hellhounds weren't a big deal, and he'd been to America before, he'd been born there even. He might be the easiest to get in there should he and the others a part of his guild need to get in that way, legally, that is.

"There's a fellow over there with another demon," Casey says, appearing next to Lucca as if she was there the entire time. Lucca followed where she had pointed and smiled, standing. He moved forward, shouldering his duffel bag and taking a sip of his coffee. "What would I do without you?" Lucca asked Casey with a smile. She shrugged as she followed, winking. "Probably not have any clue where to go and gotten off at the last station, oh wait, you did," Casey says, bumping into Lucca playfully. He smiles and puts his arm around her, ignoring the strange looks he was receiving as he approached the fellow with the demon.

As Lucca and his demon approached, Lucca caught sight of another keeper approach with his own demon. This guy must be Cathal, who else would have two young keepers approach him? "Cathal I take it? Or another one of the new additions to the Lone Guild?" Lucca asked as he approached the keeper with an outstretched hand. He nodded at the demon next to him in acknowledgement.

Lucca had smiled and given a slight wave at the other keeper as he had approached. "I'm Lucca Cornelio, it's nice to meet you both," Lucca says with a smile as he sets his bag down.

Kenji nodded into the phone. "Yes, yes, I made it. I'm sitting outside of the train station now. No, I just had to show them the passport and they let me through. Yes Jacob is fine, no he didn't change. I gotta go, Jake is saying he senses other demons. Bye, thanks, yes I will, bye," Kenji says into his phone, sighing as he ended the call. "I didn't say anything," Jacob says with a knowing smile. Kenji shrugs, looking at his closest friend and enemy. "Yeah, my dad was being... overprotective," Kenji finished with a nod.

He was stretched out in his rental car. He had arrived in the UK late the night before and was exhausted. Jacob sat across from him, letting Kenji drape his legs over his own. "Why don't you call him father when you talk to him?" Jacob asked softly, hoping to get something out of Kenji. Kenji shot him a look, muttering under his breath, "You know why..." Kenji didn't meet Jacob's eyes as Jacob whispered even more softly, "Why don't you say you love him back?"

Kenji ignored the question, instead, grabbing his backpack and his bag out of the back of the car, then heading for the train station. Kenji would be going to pick up the car soon enough, drive it back to the airport, turn it in, and hop on a flight back to the States, all within a day. His father had arranged it, the car and getting over to England that is. Kenji left the keys in the car, knowing he could just unlock the car when he got back to it with some strong winds in the lock.

"Come on Kenji, you can't just shut it out forever" Jacob says, rubbing Kenji's back like his adoptive mother used to. Kenji shrugged it off and Jacob fell into silence, knowing Kenji was starting to fall into a depressed state. "A later time then," Jacob says understandingly as he opened the door for Kenji.

"You know you shouldn't do that in public," Kenji muttered as he entered, nodding his thanks. "Helping you when you're not very happy is worth the odd looks you recieve," Jacob says with a wink as he lets the door close, taking his backpack he hadn't removed and hefting it higher on his own back. "That's because you aren't the one getting the odd looks," Kenji says with a small smile, the first one he held in days.

"Do you see Cathal anywhere?" Jacob asks as the two stand in the middle of the station, looking around for any signs of other demons or keepers. Kenji didn't see Cathal, but he did see a blonde demon with a dark haired keeper. "See something Kenji? You have to keep me updated about things, you are the more observant one and you know it," Jacob says with a smile as he ruffles Kenji's hair eliciting a sour, sarcastic look from the keeper.

"That fellow is a keeper and the girl is a demon like you, can't you tell that?" Kenji asked as he looked to Jacob, already knowing the answer. "Oh, I knew, I just wanted to make you feel better by making you think I need you to see the world better," Jacob says as the two follow the keeper and demon's progress through the station by observation.

"Let's go," Kenji says with a nod as the two head towards where the keeper and his demon stopped. The two approached just in time to hear the boy's name. "Hey, name's Kenji, this is Jacob. Cathal, it's good to see you again," Kenji says with a small wave at the oldest individual in the group. Kenji had met his new guild leader when his father had had a party once, long ago, when Kenji was a young teenager or something.

"It's nice to see someone smile."

Ami landed next to her demon, Sammie, on top of the highest building closest to the station. They had only been a few towns over, so Ami thought it would be a good opportunity to practice her aerobatics. They scanned the area with more precision for a park that would hide their landing. They were sure people would question a young girl walking through their building that had never even entered in the first place.

"Over there Ami," Sammie pointed. Ami followed the direction of her finger until she too spotted the small area. "Let's go." The two took off once again, speeding over to the dark patch. As soon as they knew they were in the clear, the dropped out of sight and into the waiting tree below them. They dropped once more, this time landing on the soft grass before erecting their stature and dusting off their clothes. Sammie nodded at her Keeper, walking slightly ahead of her. Ami followed closely behind, holding the straps of her backpack and looking down.

Sammie always looked up, so it was much easier for Ami to walk behind her instead of ahead and possibly tumble into someone. It didn't help that she couldn't step over her own feet without stumbling. Ami looked up to see their destination up ahead. It was Harrogate Station, a rather small and quaint spot. It was an odd meeting spot, but whatever Master says goes.

"Looks like we weren't the first to make it," Ami stated, hearing the voices of her Guild Mates as she approached the station. They still had some ways to walk, but since Ami minored in Sound magic at the academy, her hearing was exceptional. "Can we stop by the bathroom?" Sammie nodded, making a detour to the restroom. While Ami's demon waited outside the restroom, the small girl went in and inspected her back. Her wings had retracted without a problem and there was no indication that they were even there ... well, besides her birthmark. Ami fixed her dress and then her jacket before emerging from the room and to her demon's side.

It was only a matter of minutes before they made it to the meeting place. Sammie bowed and stepped aside for Ami to see the group before her. Guild Master Cathal was there, along with Lucca and Kenji, then there was another boy as well. Ami curtsied and greeted her peers formally.

"Hello Master Cathal, Kenji, Lucca, stranger. I'm assuming we are waiting for Alice is all." Ami turned to the new recruit and held out a hand. "I'm Ambrosia Delaire, but you can call me Ami. This is my demon, Samantha, but she goes by Sammie." Sammie bowed once more, then making her way to Ami's side.

"Every new beginning ends."

"God dammit, Gabriel! The others are probably going to leave without us!" Alice dashed around the corner, thankful she picked sneakers instead of heels. Sure she could run in them, but sneakers were much faster. She dodged left and right to avoid running into strangers.

"It's not my fault! You decided to the guys house, not me!"

"You were supposed to tell me the time!" Alice shook her head at the shadow whizzing past people beside her. In all reality, it was her fault, but Alice wasn't going to admit it. She paused, seeing a building with the word 'Harrogate' on the side, so she slowed her pace. Then the station came into view and Alice stopped. Gabriel manifested next to her in his human form, immediately clinging on to the panting girl next to him. Alice tried to shake him off, but he hung on with no intention of letting go. "Gabriel, cool it with the lovey-dovey act. It's right there and I'm late as it is."

"But you have to catch your breath so they don't know you were running." He made a fair point. The two moved to the railing that blocked of a park and sat down. "See, Ami is late too. I just saw her go in." Alice rolled her eyes and leaned back against the rails behind her. Cathal was lucky he was the Guild Master, otherwise she would have had no problem being late. She didn't care much at all about the insignificant mission coming up. Any one of the Guild Members could have done the mission all their own. Gabriel had referred to it as a bonding exercise for the Guild. Alice pulled the ponytail holder out of her hair, letting the lavender locks fall down. Despite how much she had been running, she still smelled like a field of violets with the smell of cologne still lingering on her skin. Gabriel had already grabbed her hair and made it into a loose side braid while Alice touched up her mascara.

After a few minutes, Alice and Gabriel stood and sauntered over to the station. They found the group of Keepers' and Demon's with ease and she moved shamelessly over, standing behind Ami so she was clearly visible. She wrapped her arms around the small girl, resting her chin on the top of Ami's head.

"So when are we leaving," Alice questioned, not addressing her tardiness at all.

"Says the one who just arrived," Gabriel said as he stacked his head on top of Alice's, wrapping his arms around her. He eyed the stranger in the group, assuming he was a new member. "Hey there, noob. I'm Gabriel and this plum head is Alice." Gabriel moved and nodded to the other men in the group. "And ladies, you're all looking beautiful tonight. I'm so glad to be in a group with so many privileged and capable young women." Alice rolled her eyes at her demon, sighing to match.

"Just try."

The first to arrive was a new face to the guild, Fintan Kearney and his demon Vergil.

Hey, Master Cathal, nice to see you and Yukine again. I hope we aren’t late.

Not at all, Fintan. You are right on time.” Yukine looked at the two that had arrived, nodding as a greeting. Soon, Kenji and Lucca arrived as well, greeting Fintan with warmth. Things seemed to be going well so far. The only ones they were waiting on now were the girls. “I suppose I should just do a safety brief before we head to the airport.” Cathal pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Fintan. He figured he knew what was going on, but the paper held a more detailed description of what exactly was going to happen. “Excessive amount of hell hounds are loose in Jersey Devil territory. The Council wants us to take care of this little problem. I know you guys think this is stupid and that they should send a lesser guild. But we need to make sure to perfect our ability to work as a team. That’s why we are taking on a lesser task. Group one, Fintan and I, will be taking on the Northern section of the Pine Barrens. Group two, Lucca and Ambrosia, will take the Southern portion and group three, Kenji and Alice, will handle the middle section. If you have a problem with your pairing, please let me know now.

As soon as Cathal finished his speech, Ami and her demon emerged, greeting their guild mates missing the emotion Cathal still wasn’t used too. At this point, Yukine started to hide behind Cathal. Sure Lucca’s demon was a woman, but it was just one. Now there were two more. Cathal didn’t move or even recognize his demon’s timid nature.

Ambrosia, you are paired with Lucca. You will be tackling the Southern parts of the Pine Barrens.” Cathal turned back to the rest of the group. “Once Alice arrives, we can make our way to the airport. Here are your tickets and I assume you all have your passports on you. How you get to the airport, I don’t care, but I would love for us all to be on the same plane.” It was about then that Alice strolled up, inquiring about what time they were leaving. She was the one student he didn’t formally address. She was just not someone he felt he would like very well. He didn’t mind everyone else, but she just dirtied herself with the darkness that was human temptations. And she was only nineteen. “Alright, be at the airport in 30 minutes, the plane leaves in an hour.

_Lucca nodded his acknowledgement when he was given his partner. He liked Ami, she was nice, a bit out there, but nice. Lucca had smiled when Kenji approached and gave a slight wave. The older guy, being the way he was, leaned on Lucca like he was a foot shorter though it was only a few inches difference. Lucca leaned away slightly, making an odd face that elicited a smile from Jacob.

Lucca gave a small wave to Alice, not as psyched to see her as everyone else. She was just too... much, for him. Kenji on the other hand, winked at Alice. He didn't really like Alice that way, well maybe he did, he wasn't really sure, but he had done it because he was trying to hide his uncertainty. He knew it was working, that was a talent of his. He saw Alice the way he saw himself, thinking she was like him in the way she must be hiding something, pushing her real feelings down by displaying a more cruel version. Perhaps that was why Kenji looked at her in a different light than most girls, she reminded him of Jacob on his bad days, that only Kenji saw, and Jacob was a part of Kenji however much he wanted to deny it sometimes.

"We're working together by the way," Kenji stated, his flirting the moment before now replaced with a face that looked like he couldn't care less.

Lucca looked over at Kenji, asking, "Hey, you brought a car, right?" Kenji had walked in, not ridden a train in like Lucca and Casey. "Yeah, I brought a car. It could probably fit all of us if it needed to. I can just fly if we need more room. Besides, if we get pulled over, I don't have a legit licence here... so, maybe you should drive Lucca," Kenji said, nodding his head as if deep in thought.

Lucca didn't meet Kenji's eyes as he muttered something quietly under his breath. "What?" Kenji asked, leaning in to hear what Lucca said. "He said he doesn't have his licence either," Casey said helpfully with a slight roll of the eyes. Kenji smiled as he straightened up again. "Nice, thanks for telling him," Lucca muttered with a jovial smile on his face. Casey shrugged, her motion saying no problem for her.

"It's cool man, I'll drive. People will just have to sit in other people's laps if I take more than four people not including me," Kenji stated as he hefted his bag higher on his shoulder. "Those who don't want to fly and or do whatever it is you do, come with me," Kenji stated as he waved people on to follow him should they want to.

"Yo, new guy, I got a seat in my car if you want it. It's a short ride to the airport, it'll be a tight fit, but it's possible," Kenji called over his shoulder as he took up reached for the sunglasses that hung at his throat on his tshirt. He slipped them on as he walked outside though England wasn't that sunny that day. Image

Jacob stayed behind to look at the new kid. "Come on, we don't bite. Except Kenji when he's really hungry. I'll shift so you can have the front seat if you want," Jacob offered as he turned to walk quickly to catch up to his fast walking keeper.

On the way out of the door, Jacob ruffled Lucca's hair, stating, "It's cool, Kenji just knows how to drive because he did something illegal a while back, can't be helped." He said it as if it was something that happened every day, Kenji breaking the law, which could very well be the case when it came to Kenji.

He led the way out to his car, summoning a strong, tiny wind into the key hole of the trunk, popping it without difficulty. He tossed his bag back in, thinking they'd have gotten on another train or something. Why had he even left the States again? Kenji walked to the front of the car, manipulating the wind once more to unlock his car door, then unlock the car for everyone else a second later. He climbed in, closing the door and starting the car. Lucca got in the seat behind Kenji, allowing Casey to climb into his lap. The two were best friends, nothing more, yet some keepers found it odd that Lucca was so close to his demon.

"Okay, roll call, better yet, who's in my car?"Kenji asked, raising his voice only slightly and only giving a slight glance back. "Jacob," Jacob stated from where he sat in Casey's lap despite Lucca's complaints. "Lucca's here, with your demon crushing him," Lucca managed. "By the way Jacob, you're crushing me," Lucca managed as he tried to shove Jacob off only to find there was no room to do anything.

"I'm here, Casey, that is," Casey stated simply, hugging Jacob from behind. For whatever reason, Jacob and Casey were like siblings in the way they treated each other, possibly because Lucca and Kenji were so close to each other on such occasions.

Kenji listened to the other names, smiled, then put the car in gear. "Off we go. Jacob, if you braid my hair like you did last time, you're walking to Jersey," Kenji stated upon feeling a tug on a lock of his hair. "So, what's going on in people's lives since our last encounter?" Kenji asked, glancing in the rear view mirror as he drove. He leaned against his door, the window down a little.

Kenji wondered briefly about Alice again. What was he thinking, he needed to get the girl out of his head, lest he get her and himself killed. He pushed the thought of her away. He wasn't going to flirt with her, or pretend to flirt with her, again, for a long time, until he felt he could control himself. He knew she had something against guys, and though he didn't want to hurt her in a way that was really going to hurt her for real, but he didn't want to accidentally be the cause of her receiving physical pain either. Worse, what if she broke him and left nothing left of his already heavy-... he was thinking way too deeply as well as way too melodramatically. Breathing deeply, he pressed the gas, keeping an eye out for any police in case they decided to get him for speeding. He'd just screw with their radar guns by slowing the appearance of the car's speed, or just have it take off and have Lucca conceal it in shadows, whatever. Speeding made Kenji feel loose, like nothing could touch him, or hurt him, anywhere or any way.

He listened and didn't listen as people talked. Lucca filled in the gaps in noise, working with Jacob as a tag team.

"Awesome," Vergil said as he grinned mischievously at Fintan after hearing their partner for the mission, "We get the badass." Fintan returned the smile at the blonde-haired boy while he reached for the plastic handle of his suitcase. Truthfully, Fintan was relieved that he had Cathal on his side, he knew he didn't have a very good hold on his powers which is never very safe. Especially if it's something as volatile as fire.
Fire has always been fascinating, the way it symbolizes the blossoming of new life, but also the way it showed how everyone's flame must go out one day. The analogy always annoyed Fintan.
How could something as simple and frankly, vapid, as fire possibly be compared to something as complex and layered as human thought and emotion?

"Alright, we have maybe ten minutes before we really have to start walking to the airport. How many Popsiles do you think we could pick up in that time? I'm thinking between fifteen and twenty. Actually, how much money do you have in your wallet?" Vergil cut in, reaching for Fintan's back pocket where he kept his money. However, the Keeper whirled away from his demon and gave him an incredulous look.

"Not nearly enough to satiate your sugar-filled fantasies so stop spending my money! You had three Popsicles on the way over here," Fintan pointed out sternly. Vergil gave him a sour look, but continued to silently chew on his wooden stick.

"So, whata ya think of your Guild Mates, Finny?" he asked quietly, looking up at his Keeper with steady blue eyes. Fintan swooped his gaze over to the the small crowd of people who were already striking up conversation with ease.

"I think they're awesome," the boy replied truthfully, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth,
"I actually have a really good feeling about this."

"Oh, well, isn't that sweet? Vergil sneered as they started to walked towards the exit of the station. However, Fintan started to hear the other Guild Members referring to him as "the stranger" and he turned to look over his shoulder. Fintan realized that they were considering giving him a ride with a great swell of excitement and his eyes grew bright. They started to leave towards the car and one of the demons stayed behind a moment to speak to him.

"Come on, we don't bite. Except Kenji when he's really hungry. I'll shift so you can have the front seat if you want," he promised and Fintan broke out into a grin.

"Wow, thanks! I really appreciate it. A ride sounds better than walking with this weirdo any day," he replied, jerking his head towards his demon who crossed his arms, pouting around his Popsicle stick.

"Why are they giving you special treatment? Front seat? You used to have to earn that position. People didn't just give it to you," he murmured testily, following Fintan out to the car.

Quickly so they wouldn't have to wait, Fintan threw his black suitcase in the back of the car as everything unlocked simultaneously. He walked around the right side of the car, heading for the passenger side door when he hesitated a moment and turned around to look at Vergil.

"Listen, there's not enough room for all of us so I'm gonna need you to shift," Fintan told him slowly, and Vergil prompted answered with an animated groan, throwing his head back with the wooden stick barely clinging to the left corner of his mouth.

"C'mon, you really just don't want me to embarrass you, you dweeb," Vergil sighed, but he threw the Popsicle stick aside and smoothed his wild hair.

"I better be getting some food out of this," he threatened, giving his Keeper a sideways look before he shrunk and shrunk until he was a tiny, green and yellow parakeet on the asphalt. Fintan bent over to cup the bird in his hand, feeling Vergil's rapid heartbeat through his soft feathers.

"Sure, buddy, maybe a pizza or something. Promise," Fintan murmured before swinging open the passenger side door and throwing himself inside as the car began to start up. They weren't on the road long before Fintan realized that they all knew each other before this, that much was obvious from how comfortable they were around one another. This was also around the time when Vergil started to sink his sharp beak into the soft skin of Fintan's palm. He gave the bird a hard look, silently asking him what the hell he was doing. The parakeet started to bob his head towards the Guild Members, telling Fintan to immerse himself in the conversation. He swallowed hard before smiling confidently and looking around the seat to the people in the back seat.

"Hey, I'm Finny and this is Vergil," he declared, holding up the bird for them to see, "Nice to finally meet you guys."

"Every new beginning ends."

"We're working together by the way," Alice's guild mate Kenji stated. The Keeper turned to look at the Guild Master, who seemed to be completely ignoring her. The small girl she had been leaning on moved out from under her, handing Alice her ticket. Alice smiled down, rustling the Wind Mage's hair.

"Thanks Ami." Alice waved to Kenji and Lucca in a sort of passive manner. "Why in the hell do we need to work in teams?" Gabriel slithered up to Alice's side and grabbed her hand. She simply looked away in fake distaste. When Kenji offered to give them a ride, Alice shook her head, knowing Ami would do the same. How the Master intended on getting there was a mystery. "I'll fly, thanks."

"How about a race? I'll race Sam, and you can race Ami." Alice nodded at her demons suggestion. She received nods of conformation from Ami and Sammie, making it official. "Guess we will see guys at the airport. Try not to keep us waiting," Gabriel said jokingly. The four made it out to the park where Ami had made her landing and Alice had taken a short break. With all wings extended, they stood off for a few minutes. They were really admiring each others wings. Ami's were real wings and Alice's were simply Shadows, but it was all still worth admiring. Ami's were pure white, giving her an angelic look. Sammie's were the same as her Master's but a little smaller with a light pink tint to them. Alice's were large and
black with a slight shimmer. Gabriel's were black with a blue tint when the light hit them just right.

"Ready ... Set ... Go!"

"It's nice to see someone smile."

Ami took off with amazing force, leaving the others in her dust. Her glory seemed temporary, Alice managed to catch up easily, but her struggle was obvious. Ami turned to see the demons flying at a leisurely and steady pace behind them. They were getting smaller and smaller as Ami and Alice pumped their wings, Ami assumed it was really between Alice and herself. She also predicted that the two would somehow arrive at the airport before their Masters, being demons it was a positive.

"Come on Alice, where is your fighting spirit?" Ami heard a bunch of shouting, but the wind passing by was drowning out most of when Alice was trying to say. Ami cracked a small smile, knowing that she wasn't even flying her fastest. But she didn't want to beat Alice too bad. Seeing her guild mate put in so much effort made her happy. Ami continued to look ahead, spotting a group of geese flying in a path that would intersect with theirs. The young Keeper slowed down to be at pace with Alice, only to point ahead and lower herself. Alice went up, narrowly avoiding the group of animals.

They had been flying high speed for a bit before they spotted the airport. Alice and Ami looked at each other, speeding up to finish the race. Just as Ami had thought, Gabriel and Sammie were on the roof, waiting for them. The Wind Mage was the first to land, doing so delicately. Alice on the other hand bulldozed right into Gabriel, almost falling off the roof in the process.

"Now we need to go to the terminal." The group nodded to one another. Alice and Gabriel morphed into the shadows while Ami and Sammie took the normal way, seeing as they couldn't morph through anything.

"Hey, I'm Finny and this is Vergil," he declared, holding up the bird for them to see, "Nice to finally meet you guys." Kenji gave a slight wave, barely lifting his hand off of the wheel. As he sped, he spoke calmly, "Hey Fin, I'm Kenji, the blonde's Casey, the dude falling off of Casey's lap is Jacob, and the boy who was just getting crushed is Lucca. You know who's keeper and demon probably," Kenji spoke as he pulled into the airport's car rental place. He stepped out, calling for everyone else to as well. Jacob, who was in a rather strange position after falling off of Casey's lap, climbs out and nearly falls on his knees.

Kenji popped the trunk, grabbing his and other people's stuff with the winds before setting them down and closing the trunk with his hand. "Lady and gentleman, we have arrived," Kenji stated as he tossed the keys of the rental car to some employee who was approaching him for just that. After a few words were exchanged, Kenji grabbed his bags, tossing Lucca his, then moved to the terminal.

"So, you and Vergil, what genre of magic do you have?" Lucca asked as he walked next to Kenji, who had his hands in his pocket and was looking both ways before crossing a rather busy street. "Mainly, that is," Lucca stated simply as an afterthought.

"Crap, Lucca, looks like we're running behind, think you can go ahead to keep our seats?" Kenji asked upon checking his watch. They were just about to have to go through security. Kenji considered their options. Lucca could get through easily with the shadows, and Casey, Virgil, and Jacob could just walk through, leaving Kenji and Fin. Kenji knew Lucca well enough to know he couldn't change Kenji into shadows without shadows. He passed his stuff to Lucca who nodded, giving Fin a quick nod and smile before melting into shadows, racing to the corner of the room and flying quickly towards the terminal.

"Every man for himself when it comes to security man," Kenji said as he began his wait through a line for flights that would leave soon. Image

Kenji hadn't slept a wink on the plane. He had kept his sunglasses on and looked out the window the entire time. Jacob, not wanting to really hang out anymore, and exhausted, shifted to rest in Kenji's cup of water, not moving or communicating in any way, looking like a strange, unmelting piece of ice. The kid behind Kenji kicked his seat again and Kenji nearly said something, but found he didn't really care a moment before he turned. Lucca sat in the row in front of him next to Ami.

Kenji had glanced at Alice once during their flight. "Hey, Alice... I..." Kenji realized he was about to say something stupid. "Do you have a mirror? Getting off the plane I need to look my best," Kenji asked, trying to sound as not stupid as possible while also keeping up his usual facade. At least he thought he had covered up his main concern. He really didn't care all too much about appearing self centered, it helped him feel better.

Kenji stepped out of the rental car. He liked flying more, but in Jersey, there wasn't enough things going on in the sky to keep people's attention off of him. A random passerby may look up and see him.

Kenji sped along again, at least he could get away with something more common and on the ground. "Alice, how are we going to contact Cathal when we need to?" Kenji asked as he pulled up in the direction of the middle part of the pine barrens. He parked, looking out at the woods beyond. He reached under the seat of the backseat, pulling out a bag of knives of various sizes.

"You can borrow one if you want," Kenji stated without looking up, being friendly in the way he offered it. He didn't let his slip show that he hadn't done it on purpose, not wanting Alice to think something of him.

Lucca emerged from the shadows, appearing as if he stepped out of a tree. He looked around for Ami, calling her name a little softly. He looked over at Casey as she approached. He had left his bag in the car Lucca's family owned and had sent for them. Lucca wondered briefly whether or not he was smart to trust Kenji didn't bring any weapons whatsoever to Britain. He had carried knives on a plane for the guy, and the guy had even snuck knives onto his own flight to England.

Lost in his thoughts, he didn't really think about the woods around him. He looked around, half interested as he looked around for Ami, Casey sitting in the branches of a nearby tree.

"Just try."

Cathal wound through the Pine Barrens, looking for a decent place to leave the car. He only glanced at his passenger, Fintan, every now and then. He could see Yukine sleeping soundly in the back seat, making Cathal smile slightly. It was finally dark, perfect time for the creatures to start stirring. The Guild Master parked in a somewhat clear area, exiting the car with a slam simply to wake his sleeping demon and anyone else that may have dosed off. Yukine growled a few choice words before exiting the car and walking to his Master's side. Cathal looked around the woods, already sensing the movement all around them. There wasn't anything large like a Devil or Hound near them, but they were definitely in the forest.

"Yukine," Cathal ordered. The young demon nodded and closed his eyes, a light emanating as he transformed into a katana. "Fintan, I understand that you are not only a new member, but your area is fire also, am I correct? Well, the other members know not to create to much damage. They are experts at what they do and I know you will come to be so as well. Don't worry about any carcasses, the clean up will take care of that. I really don't want to have to deal with the Council anymore than I will after this. I will be mainly watching you fight, only jumping in if you need me too." Cathal pulled oput a cigarette and lit it, blowing a puff of smoke.

"Why am I even here?" Yukine complained, earning a literal cold shoulder from Cathal.

"Let's go, this way," Cathal nodded in the direction he had already started walking. "I don't know if you have ever killed a Hell Hound, but they aren't hard. Either obliterate them, decapitate them or remove their heart. I'm sure you can handle that." Cathal looked around, blowing a puff of smoke out here and there. They had just started to get into the deeper part of the Pine Barrens when a howl could be heard, and it wasn't far either. Cathal looked back at Fin and jerked his head in the direction of the howl, pausing so the young Guild Member could go ahead of him. But something tugged on Cathal's conscious and he quickly put a hand on Fin's shoulder. "I'll show you how first."

Without hesitation, Cathal moved ahead towards the sounds that were no doubt a Hell Hound. Only to demonstrate to Fin, he got into a defensive stance, holding Yukine in front. The Hound became visible soon after, growling fiercely at the man. Cathal slowly lifted his hand, as if telling the Hound to halt. It started to charge, snarling loudly and barking. Within seconds, its head froze and shattered soon after. Cathal lowered his hand, walking over to the corpse. He observed it without emotion, wondering what breed it was. All Hell Hounds looked similar, the only major difference was their size. This one was about as big as a medium sized horse. Were they all this large? Usually the infestations consisted of smaller ones. No doubt this was the Ruinosus at work. Were they really planning an ambush? How would Cathal know if the other members were alright?

No, he was doing it again. He didn't need to worry ....

"Hey Fin, I'm Kenji, the blonde's Casey, the dude falling off of Casey's lap is Jacob, and the boy who was just getting crushed is Lucca. You know who's keeper and demon probably," Kenji told him and Fintan greeted them with a warm smile before they had to step out of the car to walk into the airport. Immediately after the Keeper stepped out of the passenger side, Vergil darted out of his palm and snapped into his human form, his form rippling like water for a moment. Fintan gestured for the demon to come along as he grabbed his suitcase and followed the crowd inside, answering Lucca's question.

"Oh, my power is fire. But truthfully, I’m not very good at it. I have a lot of practicing to do,” he replied, letting out a nervous and slightly ashamed laugh. They didn’t exchange many pleasantries after that as they all rushed to the plane and trudged through security. Fintan grew quieter and quieter on the plane as the time for him to use his powers grew closer and he began to doubt his skill and ability to even use his power.

”Hey man, chill out, everything’s gonna be just peachy,” Vergil promised, slipping his large green headphones off of his ears and around his neck after a painfully long silence between the two of them.

”I don’t know if I can do this. I feel really sick,” Fintan confessed and he visibly paled as he said this. Vergil shoved his shoulder lightly towards the window, convinced that his Keeper was being dramatic.

”Seriously, Finny, how bad could it be?” he pressed, his tone meant to be encouraging if anything. Fintan let out a loud scoff.

”Judging on how little I actually know about my power or how talented I am at it, I’d say there’s a wide range of awful that could happen,” he replied in a disheartening tone. Vergil glared at Fintan with a disapproving frown.

”Listen, you sure as hell aren’t gonne be able to use your power if you act like such a downer. So perk up or you’re gonna embarrass me in front of the Guild Master,” he teased, a serious note in the undertone of his words. Fintan nodded slowly upon hearing this.

”Yeah, you’re right, you’re absolutely right. Besides that’s why I’m here, isn’t it? To get better at this and be able to control it right?” he brooded, bringing himself up with every word. Vergil broke out into a huge grin and moved to put his headphones back on.

”Right! So sit back and enjoy the rest of the plane ride! We’re going back to America!”

Fintan immediately loved The Pine Barrens. It was so damp and felt like it had just been filled with rain and looked like a forest out of a fairy tale book. Minus the fact that most of the trees were starting to wilt from the hellhounds and Green Sprites infecting the area. Somehow, he manage to overlook the decay and the dead branches that littered the ground. Cathal had already explained the mission in a little more detail while they walked through the woods and was surprisingly comforting about Fintan’s lack of knowledge which was incredibly appreciated by both Fintan and Vergil who didn’t have to hear Finny bitch about it later. However, at this moment, Cathal was about to demonstrate a fight for Fintan. The two students stood off to the side, utterly amazed with rapt expressions on their faces as the tiny demon Yukine formed into a long sword, standing confrontationally across from the massive hell hound with ravenous red eyes locked on the Guild Master.

”You guys can turn into weapons?!” Fintan hissed to Vergil with wide eyes. Vergil shrugged, shaking his head from side to side.

“Apparently,” he admitted weakly. No sooner had Vergil replied that the Hell Hound tore towards Cathal with vicious speed. Fintan was convinced the man was going to slice the dog in half, but instead he merely held his palm out like a policeman conducting traffic. Fintan squinted his eyes to see if any visible changes were taking place when the hound’s head sudden encased itself in ice that glittered like diamonds and you could practically hear the sound of the skull splitting as its head shattered. As Cathal approached the carcass of the animal, Vergil bumped Fintan with his sharp hip.

”Hey, buddy, pick your jaw up off of the floor and get ready; we’re next,” the demon pointed out smartly, removing his giant headphones to place them around his neck once more. Fintan nodded and stepped closer to the open area, revealing himself confidently, clenching his fists so tight, his knuckles were snow white.

”Relax,” Vergil sang soothingly as he rubbed Fintan’s tense shoulders, treating him like a wrestler before a stressful fight, ”I’m gonna be here the whole time. We’re a tag team, kay? You just- you just tag me and badaboom I’m there,” Vergil hissed encouragingly, hyping himself up as well as Fintan who started to bounce with nerves. It was only a minute before they hear similar shuffling in the trees to their right. Suddenly, the hellhound came racing out of the trees, straight for Fintan. The Keeper tensed up and froze like he was frozen in ice.

”Fintan, go,” Vergil warned, his voice hard and serious, but the words simply rolled off of Fintan. He wasn’t even sure if he was breathing.

Finny,” the demon pressed, practically growling until the hellhound was close enough that you could see the ombre of red in its jet black coat.

FINNY!” Vergil shouted, shoving his Keeper out of the way and facing the hound on head first. Vergil clasped his hands together before tearing them apart, an explosion of light resembling a supernova grew out of his palms, startling the hound and forcing the dog to scamper a few feet away as its eyes adjusted to the light.

”Fintan, I swear to God if you don’t jump in right now and fight this thing, I’ll hate you forever,” the demon
threatened darkly, deadly serious. His sky blue eyes were locked on the hound’s actions while Fintan scrambled to his feet, trembling with both fear and excitement. He shook his fists by his sides and they grew visibly hotter and hotter as the flesh grew a blazing red like metal in a blacksmith’s furnace until they burst into flames altogether, the skin crawling like ember-filled logs in a bonfire.

”I know you can do this, so show your teacher that you aren’t helpless,” Vergil continued, his voice still cold and dead as stone. Fintan slowly and shakily passed by Vergil’s ball of growing light, nearly tripping over a tree root before taking a deep inhale, his nerves leaving him.

”HAAH!” Fintan bellowed as he pushed his hands forward with as much force as he could, mimicking someone who would be shoving another aside. The ground sparked a moment before blazing into flames that skittered across the forest floor, rushing faster and faster, higher and higher towards the hound until it was swept up in the hot fabric of wild flames. The dog let out a blood chilling howl of agony that reminded Fintan how terrified he was and he immediately started to shiver again, retreating behind Vergil who condensed the light until it was nothing once more.

”How did I do?” Fintan inquired carefully to Cathal, searching for his approval. How was the Keeper even supposed to guess if he did well? He had never really utilized his power as an intentional weapon beforehand. Fintan simply accepted Vergil’s comforting hand on his left shoulder as he watched Cathal.

"Just try."

The scene that unraveled in front of the Guild Master left him tense and ready to pounce. Fintan handled it okay, but seeing his demon act braver than him, it left Cathal shaking his head.

How did I do?” Fintan asked.

Cathal moved closer to his student, not blinking. His usual glare was stuck on his face and he looked as pissed as usual. With a simple wave of his hand, he extinguished the lasting flames.

Fintan, you managed to kill the Hell Hound. But in this Guild, no, in this world, there is no room to pause. I didn’t want to say it, but these Hell Hounds are different. Not a good different. They are much larger, much faster and much more ferocious. Your demon had to fend off a Hound three times his size until you could get a hold of yourself. If I had set you up with any of the other members, you would have been dead. I know you may be scared, but you can’t let it hold you back. Let it propel you. Another thing. Did you see how I froze the Hound’s head? I want you to concentrate on setting a blaze without setting the forest on fire.” Cathal heard another approaching. He motioned for Fintan to watch him.

As the Hound burst through towards the Guild Master, Cathal raised his fist and quickly splayed his fingers out. The Hell Hound stopped immediately, its blood had been frozen and expanded. It left the Hound looking like a puffer fish. The corpse laid on the floor, but Cathal repeated the same head exploding act as he had with the first to make sure.

Get ready.” Cathal’s statement was sudden, as well as his action. Even Yukine was confused. Within a second, three Hound’s burst through the tree line, mainly going for Fintan. The Guild Master swept his hand across the air in front of him, a sheet of ice following his motion and decapitating all three of the Hounds instantly. Cathal rushed over to his student, pulling both Vergil and Fintan down into sort of a huddle. With a grunt, he punched the ground beneath them, sending large spikes of ice shooting from the ground to surround them. “Alright kid. Time to get to work. Don’t sweat it, I’ve got your back. Just kill them when you see them.” Cathal was completely calm, both inside and out. There were far more than he had expected, but it was a good learning experience. The spikes surrounding them dispersed, a few impaling an oncoming Hound. Cathal got into his defensive stance, standing next to Fintan in a protective manner.

He could feel Yukine’s resistance, the same as always. It didn’t mean the demon was scared, but he always had a sort of resistance in a fight. Maybe he still wasn’t use to Cathal using him as a sword. It’s been years, but who knows.

"Fintan, you managed to kill the Hell Hound. I want you to concentrate on setting a blaze without setting the forest on fire.” Cathal criticized, giving Fintan possibly the scariest glare he'd ever seen. It was kind of strange hearing a voice so calm come out of a mouth that scowled so coldly. Fintan's ear burned red with shame, looking over his shoulder at Vergil who acted like he hadn't done anything at all, trying to make Fintan feel better, but all it did was give the Keeper the impression that he had messed up the most basic of rules. Which he essentially had.
Cathal was absolutely right, he couldn't hesitate for any amount of time, not anymore. He wouldn't have as much time for shenanigans or hiding in the shadows anymore. If he wanted to survive he needed to take this more seriously so he wouldn't be left behind in the dust.

"Get ready," Cathal warned, breaking through Fintan's thoughts before the Guild Master instantly killed three more of the hellhounds, dragging Vergil and him into a sort of huddle. Giant spikes of ice cracked through the soft earth of the forest floor and rose above their heads, glittering like lethal diamonds.

“Alright kid. Time to get to work. Don’t sweat it, I’ve got your back. Just kill them when you see them.” Cathal encouraged before removing his arms from around the two. Fintan realized that was the closest he was going to get to a pep talk and he faced the trees, peering through the distorted images of the ice, his ears pricking up to every rustle of leaves or hush of wind. Fintan's biggest dilemma at the moment was how he was going to defeat the hounds. How could he destroy the hounds without burning the forest? As he waited a moment, the Keeper's arm brushed Vergil's bare elbow and the demon flinched away, hissing out a growl of pain as Vergil grabbed at the skin that was turning red.

"Ow, man! Jeez, it must be your body heat. It must elevate when you use your powers," the demon reasoned, trying to observe the skin by stretching it, but to no avail. Fintan blinked vacantly at Vergil for a moment, his brain whirring as fast as a computer hard drive. Body heat. That was the answer! As soon as he had made this connection, the spikes sank back into the ground and three more hounds burst out of the trees. Vergil moved to step in front of Fintan, but the Keeper held out a blazing hand, keeping him behind him.

"Stay back. I can do it," Fintan pleaded, sounding a little rude, but him demon understood and retreated, not even bothering to hide his reluctance. Splaying his fingers out in front of him like a sorcerer about to recite some incantation, determination swimming in his blue eyes. As the hounds charged towards him, Fintan held his ground, undeterred. He hardly even realized that the wind was starting to pick up rather violently. When no change was occurring in the hounds, Fintan swallowed hard and swept his hand out and shot tiny darts of flame in two of the dogs' eyes, but the third dodged the tiny darts and ran even faster until he was less than ten feet from the boy. Fintan's heart rate picked up and he clenched his fists, panicking when the hounds suddenly began to steam and slowed its pace, panting heavily. Its face was contorted in pain as its vermillion eyes locked on Fintan's frightened look. Then, the hound burst into flames, bursting like a ripe blackberry.
The Keeper's eyes widened comically, but he didn't feel like laughing, more like vomiting as the corpse's blood and guts dribbled towards them. The other hounds were beginning to recover and had seen what Finny had done to their comrade, appearing even angrier than before. Fintan swallowed the bile that had launched into the back of his throat and clenched his teeth, squeezing his fists together even tighter and the two dogs exploded much like the first, one after the other. The rough wind tugged at him, pushing him to the side, but he couldn't remove his gaze from the carcasses, stumbling back towards his mentor.

"Done," he squeaked out, paling considerably before the ripping wind took hold of his attention and his eyes fell on a massive tornado extruding from the middle of the forest.

"There aren't usually tornadoes in New Jersey, are there?" Vergil asked weakly, unable to look away from the funnel of destruction. Fintan's brain searched for an explanation, turning to Cathal.

"It must be the others! They must be in trouble!" Fintan insisted, starting to run the the direction against the wind before remembering Cathal, looking back at him to see if it was alright for them to go, taking small steps that way anyways. However, as the wind tugged harder and harder, it became obvious that they wouldn't be able to withstand something so powerful.
"Never mind anymore, we have to find cover!" Fintan shouted at the top of his lungs! over the wind.

"Just try."

Cathal smirked at his students quick progress. He need only a stern look and some harsh words to get him going. But he didn't have long too celebrate his victory. It wasn't the rippling shadows that had notified Cathal of the situation, but the massive evil aura he felt.

"If they are resorting to their forbidden powers this early, then either something went really wrong or they aren't as smart as I gave them credit for." Cathal stepped forward, feeling the strong presence disappear only for another to pick up along with the wind. A snarling behind him disappeared as the howling of the wind grew stronger. The Guild Master turned to face it, but it was met with a falling tree before his own sword. Cathal jumped back, exploding the head for extra measure. The wind grew stronger and stronger, giving Cathal the feeling that he would fly away any second.

"It must be the others! They must be in trouble!" Cathal shook his head at the young man, beginning to protest until he was interrupted. "Never mind anymore, we have to find cover!" Putting up an Ice Shield wouldn't be hard, but he would have to get to Fintan before he could consider doing that. It was then that Cathal noticed another tree falling, but this time it was going for Fintan. The Guild Master sunk down and pushed off as hard as he could, whispering an apology to Yukine. He sliced the tree in half, tackling Fintan to the ground and quickly put up a thick ice shield. He seemed to do it just in time as the outside winds sped immensely, tearing everything to shreds. Yukine transformed back to his normal self, holding his head in pain.

"What the hell Cathal! You didn't even give me time to prepare!" Cathal glared deeply at his demon counterpart, Yukine mumbling angrily in response.

Within a few minutes, the outside world settled but Cathal hesitated to leave his shell. What sight met his eyes was exactly what he had expected. The area surrounding them was torn to shreds while just beyond a boundary, the trees remained untouched. Gabriel, Alice's demon, arrived but Cathal already knew what he was going to say. He nodded to the Shadow Demon, taking off without a world. Cathal propelled himself forward, dashing at an amazing speed, for a Keeper, towards what he knew was Kenji and Alice.

It took him a good amount of time to actually reach them, but seeing that Ami was already there taking care of them, he didn't fuss about it. He walked towards them at a brisk pace. Kenji had received the worst of it, the Guild Master lifted his shirt to observe the damage. Alice seemed to only have a few scratches and a large bruise on her side.

"They both used their Special Skill so they won't be waking up anytime soon," Ami notified him. Cathal nodded in response, resting a hand on Ami's shoulder.

"Are you guys okay?" Ami nodded. If she had hurt herself, she didn't know where or how. "Gabriel, you fly Kenji to my car, Sammie you take Alice. The rest of us will be there as soon as we can. Our only option is to take them to the cottage and have the clean up do what they can. They'll have to call in a few Earth Mage's to mend this mess." Gabriel and Sammie did as they were told, hauling the two off towards the car. Cathal looked at the three Keepers and their Demons. He was glad none of them were hurt. "Never follow their example. If it gets overwhelming, leave the area. Shadow Keepers, morph out, Wind Keepers, fly out. From now on we are staying in one group." With that, Cathal began to make his way back to the car. He used the same speed he had to get to Alice and Kenji in the first place. There weren't any Hounds left, Cathal knew that for sure.

ImageLucca had wanted to meld into the shadows to follow, but realized he couldn't. Taking a deep breath, he summoned the wind, somewhat scared to do so. He carefully, and very gently, propelled himself after Ami. He landed clumsily, not used to using his wind power as much as his shadows. Upon landing, Lucca looked around at the carnage. He had known both keepers were powerful, but this? This was insane. Upon approaching the two after Ami, Lucca watched concerned, thankful that the two were alive. They had just used two major powers that could have killed them.

Lucca approached his friends. When he saw Ami struggle to life Alice, Lucca knew he could lift Alice maybe, but definitely not Kenji. Lucca nodded upon hearing Sammie. He was thankful Cathal was coming. They needed him. "How many hounds are here you think?" Lucca asked, looking around again. This clearing was larger than the one he and Ami had come from, blood and black bodies carpeting the ground.

Lucca looked up upon seeing Cathal approaching. He didn't say anything, expecting the leader to not be happy. Lucca nodded in response to Cathal's question. He was okay physically, but he was worried about his friends and felt sick to his stomach. What had gotten so bad that Kenji had summoned something of that size after Alice had used her own special ability? Lucca listened as Cathal gave instructions. Upon the mention of two demons, he looked around for Kenji's own demon. Where was Jacob?

Lucca nodded in response to Cathal. Kenji and Alice would probably both be reprimanded later. Lucca and a solemn Casey followed Cathal to his car, flying together, Casey helping Lucca in the process. As the two flew, Lucca looked at the surrounding forest. There was at least four circles of cleared forest, seemingly random, yet Lucca knew Kenji had done it for a reason. Perhaps he'd talk to him about it when he woke up.

Upon reaching the car, Lucca studied Kenji and Alice's condition. They needed to have someone just look at them, Kenji more than Alice. Lucca wondered how Kenji had managed to control the winds enough to focus them away from Alice. "Casey, can you go grab Kenji's car? Like, fly it to the cottage?" Lucca asked her. She nodded, not saying anything as she eyed Kenji and Alice once more before taking off. She'd arrive at the cottage soon enough with the car somehow.

"Cathal, what was up with the hellhounds? Why were there so many? Especially around Kenji and Alice? I thought this was just a tiny mission to kill ten or less hounds..." Kenji stated, sitting in the back seat next to the unconscious Kenji.

It took about another thirty minutes to make his way back to the car. Cathal quickly started it, waiting until the others were in the car. He took off without hesitation towards the cottage that waited in a near by forest.

"Cathal, what was up with the hellhounds? Why were there so many? Especially around Kenji and Alice? I thought this was just a tiny mission to kill ten or less hounds..." Lucca stated.

"I couldn't tell you." Cathal said with a tone that meant to leave the situation alone. Originally there were supposed to only be at least twenty. An easy task for them. It must have been the ambush he had heard about, or something related to it. That may have explained their size. Those weren't the Hounds they were supposed to kill, those ones were fresh out of the underworld.

Ami was flying relatively close behind the car waiting till they grew closer to a main road. Once it came to the point that she couldn't follow without being seen, Ami expanded her wing to carry her up a safe distance. If a normal human saw her, she would just look like a normal bird at that point.

The cottage was in a neighboring forest, a place known for its lack of magical life. how they were so close but so different baffled the magical community, but no one cared enough to really figure it out. Cathal pulled into the driveway, exited the car after turning it off and opening one of the back doors. He pulled Kenji out, slinging him over his shoulder and making his way towards the front shoulder. Gabriel pulled his Master out and carried her behind Cathal. The cottage itself was rather large, enough rooms to house everyone. It was of course reserved by the Council which had no shortage of money.

"Lucca, Ami, Fintan, please get comfortable and rest. You did good today." It was pretty late at that point, about eight o' clock or so. Cathal and Gabriel carried the unconscious duo back to the infirmary room. "Like I said, all we can do is wait for them to wake up. I don't want to upset you, so I'll have you wash her up. I'll clean Kenji and dress his wounds the best I can." Cathal pulled the curtain that separated the beds down, immediately beginning to undress Kenji and clean of the now dried blood.

Ami went to the kitchen instead of to her room, figuring she would make dinner for everyone. There was lots of food stocked in the fridge and cabinets. She had to think of something that would feed a lot of people. Jambalaya seemed like a smart choice, so she quickly began her preparations. Sammie had taken their belongings to their room and came back down to help cook.

After adding everything to the two large pots, Ami searched around the kitchen for bowls for everyone. Sammie insisted on setting the table, which was done quickly. The Keeper than went around to tell the boys, including the ones in the infirmary, that dinner would be ready for them soon.

Lucca looked after Cathal curiously. He seemed to know more than he let. Lucca stepped out of the car, watching the others walk in but waiting for Casey to show up. It wasn't much longer until she did, landing Lucca's own car beside her as gently as possible. Lucca thanked her and went to take out Alice and Kenji's belongings. Casey took Alice's stuff for Kenji. The two were silent as they moved into the cottage.

Lucca put on a small smile upon smelling food though it fell rather quickly. When they entered the infirmary, Casey glanced into the closest of the two sections of the infirmary sectioned off by a curtain. "Kenji's in the other one," She said softly as she set Alice's belongings at the foot of the bed, standing by Gabriel. Lucca moved into the section cornered off for Kenji. "She'll be alright Gabriel. Come on, Ami made some food, let's go see if we can help," Casey stated softly to Gabriel, putting her hand on his shoulder. She pulled the covers up around Alice and motioned for Gabriel to go first to the kitchen area.

Lucca moved to Kenji's bed. "He's doing well, isn't he?" Lucca asked Cathal as he dug through Kenji's bag to find his sweatpants. Pulling them out, Lucca fitted them on Kenji should Alice wake first. Kenji stirred slightly but didn't wake upon Lucca moving his legs. "I wonder how long he'll be out," Lucca whispered before stepping back. "Ami made food by the way." As if Ami had heard him, she came by, telling Cathal and him that it was nearly ready. "Suppose we aught to go," Lucca said, walking out of the room to go enjoy dinner.

It was in the middle of dinner that Jacob appeared by Kenji's bed side. At first, he did nothing but stroke his keeper's cheek. He softly whispered for him to awake. Kenji, still exhausted, stirred slightly. Jacob manipulated water to cover Kenji's mouth, freezing it to cover it. Jacob cracked the back of his hand against Kenji's cheek as hard as he dared to not wake Alice, but hurt Kenji. Kenji probably would have called out should he been able to.

His eyes were wide and he moved to avoid Jacob's next strike, but in his extremely weak state, he moved sluggishly. Jacob was faster and stronger anyway, it didn't matter what he did or what condition he was in. "What is it with you, you idiot? Why did you risk yourself for that little bitch? You risk you, you risk me," Jacob growled at Kenji as he shoved the boy out of bed. Kenji rolled over, trying to breath through the ice over his mouth and struggling to get the needed air through his nose.

Jacob was merciless as he kicked Kenji in the stomach, his legs, his arms, as hard as he could. Kenji rolled over at each kick. He was against the wall soon enough. He pulled his legs in, trying to cover his head as Jacob continued to rain blows on him. "Next time you risk yourself like that, I'll make sure she dies. I will kill her myself, slowly, and make sure she knows that an inner part of you did it. I will kill her and I will make it hurt her so dearly, you will wish she died in your tornado. Am I clear you little bastard?" Jacob hissed at Kenji as he grabbed his hair and looked him in the eyes. Kenji had tears streaming down his face from the pain, hurting so badly everywhere. He stared up at Jacob defiantly resulting in another slap to his face.

"I will kill her, and if you try to stop me, I will just slowly tell her how much you want her dead or hate her. I see it, I know you, you love her, you just won't admit it because you are a scared little bastard. Trust me, you will regret ever crossing me Kenji. I will make you regret it so much. The pain you feel now, it will be ten times worse," Jacob continued to hiss. Kenji, unable to speak, just nodded slowly, trying to catch his breath.

Jacob kicked him once more, throwing an elbow at his head, heard a sound, then dissipated leaving Kenji in the corner, his hands covering his head and streaks of dried tears on his face. He didn't look up, he sat there, his chest and body aching. He hurt more than he had when he had been rudely interrupted, Jacob hurt more than a tornado. He was exhausted, he wanted to sleep, perhaps not wake up, perhaps wake up and eat everything on the planet.

Kenji's face stung, his sides ached worse than ever, and he was sure he had heard a rib or two crack when Jacob had been kicking him viciously. He realized he didn't have a shirt on then but still didn't care. He wasn't sure if Jacob was really gone or not and didn't want him to rain a blow on his head again.

As Fintan turned to look back at the Guild Master, he heard a sickening snap over the rushing wind in his ears. He turned around to see what was happening and saw a massive tree trunk splitting in half like a heavy mast of a ship, falling in his direction. Fintan's mouth fell open and his sapphire eyes snapped open wide and he tried to skitter out of the way, but he felt like his black shoes were melted into the ground as his muscled jolted, unable to move. He bent over his knees, looking at the ground as the air tugged at his short hair, bracing himself for the impact of the heavy wood, but instead something strong and solid swept him in his stomach, forcing the air out of his lungs and he gaped like a fish out of water, trying to remember how to breathe. He blinked quickly through the airborne debris and dust, trying to figure out what was happening. He vaguely saw Vergil's hair the color of sunshine rush to his side and Cathal's stern look before they were covered in a thick layer of bright ice, shielding them from the winds outside. Fintan shook his head, coughing a couple times before the world sharpened into view and he observed the deadly beauty of the ice Cathal had created with awe.

"Thank you so much," Fintan blurted out quickly, as fast as his tongue would allow, looking at Cathal with completely sincerity as Yukine was complaining. The wind blowing over the doom made the most ominous noise, like the shield would be uprooted at any moment, but Fintan trusted in Cathal's ability as a Keeper and sure enough, as the winds subsided, Fintan and Vergil remained perfectly safe, albeit freezing, under the dome. When Cathal deemed the environment safe, the ice sank back into the ground and they rose to their feet, taking in the destruction.
What had once been the Pine Barrens now looked like a hurricane had hit it, the massive trees had fallen over like toothpicks and the sky was still a green-gray color with swirling clouds that shifted like rumbling waves.

"This wasn't supposed to happen," Vergil murmured in Fintan's ear, a dark look on his young face.

"How can you tell?" Fintan inquired softly, still processing the fact that his classmates were able to create such a devastating attack. Did he harbor that same kind of power inside of him? Something that could leave a path of destruction in its fiery wake?

"It's obvious," the demon insisted absentmindedly, studying the small cut on Fintan's forehead, just under his hairline on the right side where something must've cut him as Cathal was saving him, "Cathal wouldn't have critiqued you on setting a few trees on fire if he thought the whole forest would've been destroyed anyways." One of the demon's came into view and called for Cathal, if Fintan remembered correctly,he was with the girl named Alice. Cathal didn't even need to listen to his explanation to know there was something incredibly wrong and the four of them tore off in the direction of the other Keepers. Fintan huffed and puffed after Cathal's amazing speed as the Guild Master seemed to glide through the fallen trees until they came a halt where the girl, Ami, was looking after the wounded. Fintan clenched his teeth together tightly at the sight of Kenji and Alice passed out and looking dead beat. Cathal checked on Ami before giving out orders, looking a little disgruntled at how the problem had been handled.

"Never follow their example. If it gets overwhelming, leave the area. Shadow Keepers, morph out, Wind Keepers, fly out. From now on we are staying in one group." he growled and Fintan exchanged a wary glance at Vergil who let out a long sigh and slammed his headphones over his ears, narrowing his eyes at the path ahead to the lulling sound of classical music.

"Keep your head up, mio fratello. It'll hurt at first, but it gets better," he promised Finny, hoping he was right for his Keeper's sake.

The cottage was in a beautiful little nook in a separate forest not far away. While Fintan would normally have observed the beauty it was nestled in and think of all the different words he could use for the word green, he instead stared depressed down at the floor of the car. Vergil was once again a parakeet, not because he needed to be, but because he was trying to cheer up his Keeper by hopping around on his tiny little feet and pretending to fall off of Fintan's colossal knee. This also would have normally worked, but all Finny could think about was Kenji and Alice and how he hoped they weren't in pain. As they exited the vehicle Vergil appeared to melt into a colorless puddle before reforming at his decent height, looking a little concerned for Fintan when they walked in the beautiful house.

"You look like you did after reading Edgar Allan Poe for a week. Are you gonna start quoting him at me again?" he teased, rather forced. Fintan gave him a somber look, resting his thumb on his bottom lip.

"And being so young and dipped in folly, I fell in love with melancholy," he murmured wistfully and Vergil let out an exaggerated groan.

"Lucca, Ami, Fintan, please get comfortable and rest. You did good today." Cathal told them, sounding a little more grim than proud, but who could blame him? While the others walked off to do their own thing, Fintan stood in the foyer next to Vergil, feeling without purpose until something amazing started to waft through the air. Vergil perked up like a meerkat out of his hole, sniffing the air dramatically.

"Doth my nose deceive me? What smells so damn good?" Vergil growled like an animal, following the scent towards the kitchen, peering in with Fintan on his tail.

"Looks like Ami's making dinner. That's so... nice," Fintan stated rather stupidly, but a soft smile appeared on his lips and Vergil relaxed at this. At least he didn't have to hear the quote "All I have loved, I have loved alone." for the fifteen billionth time.

" I hope she made more than just two pots," the demon grumbled, still smiling like a predator stalking its prey. Fintan smacked Vergil's arm.

"We are eating with other people now! You can't just eat all of it!" he reminded Vergil, giving him a warning look. Fintan peered around the corner at the girl once more who was bustling around the kitchen with a fluid kind of motion. Gracefulness, Finny finally concluded before he felt a light shove on his shoulders.

"Go talk to her, you in-the-closet introvert! Jeez, with how suave you pretend to be, you sure don't seem to be," the demon pointed out encouragingly.

"Well, what do I say?" the Keeper demanded frantically. Vergil shrugged like he couldn't care less.

"Um, I dunno, tell her that thing you said about her being nice and how her eyes glowed like amber honey in summer sunshine," the demon pushed and Fintan's face felt like it burst into flames.

"I-I never said that!I swear I never said that!" Fintan insisted nervously.

"No, but you were thinking it," Vergil joked, shoving Fintan into Ami's view as he was protesting.

"No, no, no, Vergil I- hiiiiii Ami, was it? Hiii. That um, that stuff you're making smells really good thanks um, thank a lot, really,"[/blue] Fintan stammered, still blushing like a red rose as he avoided her soft eyes.

[color=blue]"Did you like, need any help or anything or should I... go or...?"
he trailed off, trying to act nonchalant while his words trailed off.

Gabriel had finished dressing Alice, only sitting at that point. Lucca and Casey had entered, Lucca going to Kenji and his demon came to where Gabriel sat. "She'll be alright Gabriel. Come on, Ami made some food, let's go see if we can help," Casey stated softly to Gabriel, putting her hand on his shoulder. She pulled the covers up around Alice and motioned for Gabriel to go first to the kitchen area. The Shadow Demon nodded and stood. He knew she would be alright, but a little voice in the back of his head said not to leave. However, Ami had worked on dinner and nothing could go wrong. Gabriel exited the room and scampered off to the kitchen.

"He's doing well, isn't he?" Lucca asked Cathal. "I wonder how long he'll be out ... Ami made food by the way." As if Ami had heard him, she came by, telling Cathal and him that it was nearly ready. "Suppose we aught to go," Lucca said, walking out of the room to go enjoy dinner. Cathal silently followed, the scent of some delicious food filling the air.

"He's doing fine. I'll have Gabriel heal him more after dinner."

Ami returned to the kitchen, stirring the pots once more before mentally deciding that they were done.

"No, no, no, Vergil I- hiiiiii Ami, was it? Hiii. That um, that stuff you're making smells really good thanks um, thank a lot, really," Fintan stammered. "Did you like, need any help or anything or should I... go or...?" he trailed off.

"It's all done. You can sit down." The small girl dished out even servings of the meal to the bowls waiting on the table. The guild members trickled in little by little until everyone was sitting at the table. All the seats were taken besides three, two of which were in the infirmary. Then there was Kenji's demon which had been missing in action for a while. But it wasn't really any of Ami's concern. "I can make something if no one likes this." Ami folded her hands, muttering a quick thanks before picking up her spoon. She then remembered Fintan's offer for help and reached to touch his hand. "Thank you."

The meal went relatively well until a series of small thumps could be heard from the upstairs infirmary. Sammie, Cathal and Yukine all stood rapidly in worry, but Gabriel had already gotten up from his seat and disappeared. Once he arrived to the infirmary, of course his first action was to check on Alice, but she was still tucked soundly in bed. So he moved to Kenji's section to find the boy laying on the floor, curled up in pain. Without a word, Gabriel lifted the Keeper back onto the bed. He hovered his hands over his body, working his healing magic.

"I'm going to take the safe bet and say you fell off the bed. You should be resting. You shouldn't even try to get up until tomorrow. You need to regain her strength." Gabriel sat for a few more moment, finishing up his work then covered him back up with a blanket. The Shadow Demon looked to the corner of the room as a shadow figure manifested. "Don't let him get up. If anything happens, let me know." The shadow nodded to its commander. "I can bring you some food if you want. It's really good, Ami cooked it."
