Edme.'s Story

Edme saw Mya lieing down next to Shelbie."Hello!" Edme said to they, trotting over with her long tail wagging. She sat and her tail thumped on the ground. "Did you find any prey Shelbie?" She asked, paddiling her white paws (coated in mud) on the ground. She yawned, exposing sharp puppy teeth. "Mya..." She moaned. "I have a sore paw!" She exclaimes, lifting her right front paw.

Shelbie's ears pricked at the sound of the pup, Edme, greeting them. Her bright blue eyes sparkled with amusement as she greeted Edme. Pups had always been her weakness, as she always felt the need to protect them no matter the cause. Shelbie knew it was her maternal instincts, but it was also the fact that pups made it so easy for Shelbie to be herself around them. Pups aren't judge mental and are often just curious, and Shelbie enjoyed their innocence. Shelbie wasn't one to trust other adult wolves since her incident with her so-called "family" in her last pack, but she found she could often trust the little ones with little to no hesitation. Shelbie turned towards Edme to answer the pups question. "No, I'm afraid I didn't come across any prey. I was actually just going on a run to stretch out my muscles," Shelbie said to Edme. She watched as Edme padded her muddy paws on the ground. "Edme, how did you get your paws so dirty?" Shelbie chuckled at the pups mud-coated paws, figuring she must have been playing in a stream with a muddy bank, but wanting to hear what happened anyway.

Shelbie watched as Edme rolled around in the dirt, covering her white pelt in the dirty muck. She didn't quite understand how the pup could enjoy being dirty so much, but it was harmless, and she found it entertaining. Shelbie watched as Edme rushed off to the pups den to grab her prize. Shelbie chuckled as Esme excitedly dropped a rabbit in front of her and jumped around proudly. When she mentioned that she wanted to be a hunter she smiled. "Well, it looks like you're on your way with a kill like that! Keep practicing and you'll be a skilled hunter in no time!" Shelbie then heard the sound of pads hitting the ground and turned her head to see Amaria walking back into camp with a turkey. Her ears twitched when she heard Amaria call her name and ask her if she wanted to hunt. Shelbie nodded and stood up. "I'd love to go on a hunt." When the question about Sierra was asked, she shook her head. "I'm afraid I don't. I think she might have gone hunting though." Shelbie then stood up and shook her fur off before quickly stretching her muscles. Taking a quick look at the small food pile, Shelbie nodded in agreement with Amaria. "We definitely need more food for the pack. Let's go!" With that, Shelbie began padding towards the forest, before looking behind her to see if Edme was coming along as well.

"I can't hunt to save myself..." muttered Kobi after throwing the small, brown rabbit he caught onto the pile of the already caught prey. Hunting had never been one of Kobi's strong points but in the end he could still add his part to his pack's food. As he entered the camp, the last thing he saw was Edme's mud clad fur next to him, a few seconds after that she vanished into the woods he just came back from. Not bothering to do anything more, he lay down next to the prey and closed his eyes, wanting to relax before he eventuall had to go on a patrol.

Shelbie smiled as Edme ran up to Amaria and herself. When she asked what they were going to hunt, Shelbie stopped for a moment and sniffed the air, looking for scents. She smelled a young deer not too far away. "I think a deer will be the goal for today's kill." Shelbie began padding slowly towards the scent, stopping to wait as Edme exclaimed that she wanted to catch a bird right before she killed a rabbit. "Good job Edme! But, you might want to leave the kill here. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves when hunting. We'll come back and get it once we're done, okay?" Shelbie smiled again towards Edme before she started following the deer's scent again. They were downwind, so Shelbie knew the chances of the deer finding their scent were small, even with a dead rabbit in tow, but Shelbie preferred not to risk it. They needed this kill, and she wanted the odds to be as much in their favor as possible. The wind slightly ruffled her pure white fur as she crept forward, signaling to the others that the prey was near and that they should do the same. She crouched down and slowly crawled forward until the young buck was in her sight. She flicked her tail, motioning for the others to come forward as well. The buck was facing the opposite direction and was eating. Shelbie knew it was the perfect opportunity to attack and again began slowly creeping forward towards the buck to get as close as possible. Knowing the others were close behind her, she made another motion before leaping up towards the deer. The buck jumped in surprise, giving Shelbie the perfect opportunity to clamp down on the buck's leg, causing it to fall to the ground with a loud "thud". Shelbie then went for the buck's neck to make the kill, but not before getting a kick from the leg she had attacked. A little dazed, she stepped back and let Edme and Amaria finish the deer off as she regained her composure. Shelbie was just happy she had been kicked by the weaker leg and not a completely healthy one, otherwise she would have been in a lot more pain instead of just simply being dazed.
