"From my Queen's lips, I vow her safe return."

a character in “Lost in the Universe”, as played by RjWaltz

Description

Image

Name: Sebastian Rotheram

Age: 20 in human appearance

Gender: Male

Appearance: Armored Unarmored
Generally wears his full armor in battle and on Earth, while he wears his normal clothes as a disguise or in the company of allies on the Moon.
His armor is a full body plate mail designed to withstand a multitude of attacks as well as extremely unstable living conditions. Originally fashioned for use on a trip to Venus, Sebastian has found difficulty in replacing it.
His normal attire is a uniform he crafted to establish himself from the other warriors. He wears a long white overcoat with black linings. Underneath, he wears a lighter jacket over a long sleeved shirt. Around his neck is an amulet from a mission long ago, rumored to be a medal of outstanding bravery from a neighboring kingdom. Sebastian, however, rarely talks about it. Despite outward appearance of this outfit, it is fairly armored, mostly made out of polymerized titanium. This is also rumored to be the result of a nasty ambush Sebastian received long ago.

Personality: Sebastian is very rigid and loyal, much like the knights of old. He is unwavering in his conviction and will never break a promise, which has been known to risk his life on many occasions. His armored appearance has been known to strike fear in the hearts of his foes, and when he fights he has been known for his intense aggression and his righteous anger.

Powers: Sebastian has spectacular control over fire. He uses it to attack and defend from long range to short range. He can also use a large amount of heat. Over the years, Sebastian has explored numerous uses of the element, including limited teleportation, healing, convection heat transfer, magma production, and countless other uses.
His equipment generally consists of a single large broadsword, which he uses with either one hand or two freely. The sword has been nicknamed "Infernus Perennis" or "Endless Inferno." The sword is always red hot, stable at an average temperature of 750 degrees Celsius. His armor has the most rumors surrounding it, suggesting at magical enchantments the length of which Sebastian has never acknowledged.

History: Sebastian has been in service of the Queen of the Universe for a substantial amount of time, most of his extended life. He has been sent out on countless missions throughout the entire universe, and has never failed a mission he has taken part in. Not that the overall scenario has never failed, however, his part has always been flawless. Despite the rankings of the Warriors, he only listens to orders from the Queen directly. This has caused rumors of Sebastian having some sort of romantic involvement with the Queen, something Sebastian has neither confirmed nor denied.
When the Queen discovered Astra's fate, Sebastian was one of the first persons informed. He immediately leaped into action, ready to retrieve Astra from the clutches of evil.

So begins...

Sebastian felt his stomach sink a little as his body collided with the resistant ozone in the Earth's atmosphere. His temperature skyrocketed, which turned his protective armor burning hot. He looked around as flames exploded around him. It was his least favorite part of entering an atmosphere, but he wasn't unaccustomed to the experience. The armor he wore kept him from liquidating, but his fire mastery certainly didn't hurt. In order to distract himself from the unpleasantness, his mind went back over his previous meeting on Sonata.
"This cannot be? Princess Astra is gone?" Sebastian demanded of the messenger.
He answered swiftly, "A thousand pardons for bringing you such terrible news. Her Majesty, Queen Soya herself has sent me to deliver this message. Sire, all may not be lost. We have reason to believe she is somewhere on Earth."
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, "I will make the person responsible answer for their crimes." He ripped his sheathed broadsword off the wall in fury, scaring the messenger half to death.
"M-my liege," the messenger stammered, "We have made arrangements for you to be teleported to Earth's surface."
Sebastian held out his hand, and his gauntlet leaped from the stand holding his armor and wrapped around it. The rest of his armor began springing to him, slowly coating him.
"That is unnecessary, herald," he said, "No doubt whoever did this knew what they were doing. They are expecting all of the Queen's Warriors. I will be taking an alternate route. When I arrive on Earth's surface, I will message headquarters. Be sure to direct me to where she is being held. Go on, deliver my message."
Lastly, his helmet flew off the shelf, and he caught it under his arm. He walked out of his chamber and towards the balcony. A mirror appeared before him, showing one of the Queen's maidens with a concerned look.
"The Queen has asked you to reconsider your course of action," she said.
He glared at the mirror, "Then she may tell me herself, when I arrive on Earth. I promised her I would retrieve her daughter, and I intend to do just that."
Sebastian secured the helmet firmly on his head. The visor shined a menacing red across it, covering his eyes. He stood out on the balcony, withdrawing his sword, the Endless Inferno. Flames danced around him, propelling him upwards from Sonata and towards the Earth. As soon as he was clear of the buildings, he fired off more power, jettisoning himself at the Earth with alarming speed.

Four days had past since then, and he had finally arrived at Earth. Once the worst was over, his armor immediately began cooling. Below him stretched out the massive Indian Ocean. Surprisingly, he was off course. Damn. Sorry, Astra, but you may have to wait for me a while longer. Sebastian crashed into the Ocean, off the coast of Australia.

A family had been snorkeling off the coast of Australia. They were diving down into the crystal clear blue water to see the beautiful multicolored reefs. Their son, thirteen, decided to branch off of his family and go on his own little adventure. He swam several meters away, closer to the divide, where the shelf drops off. As he dove down, he thought he could see something coming towards him. It looked black, and seemed to be flying through the water. Was it some kind of torpedo? The boy panicked and swam away as fast as he could. The object rocketed by, sending him reeling in its wake.

Sebastian propelled himself through the water, shortly arriving at the beach. As he surfaced, his armor retracted from his body, retreating to his back before disappearing completely. Underneath his armor he wore his traditional white overcoat. It was a decent disguise for Earth, that is, when he wasn't walking out of the ocean. Sebastian walked up the beach, super heating the air around him to blow dry himself. Ignoring the staring and bewildered onlookers, he walked into a surfer shop. He busied himself with observing the various surfing boards, and that's when a song crept into his mind. It was a song he hadn't heard in a while, yet it seemed oddly familiar. The voice singing it sounded lost, and a little sad. Sebastian narrowed his eyes, grabbed the largest surfboard he could find, and ran out of the store.

"Hey! Get back here!" The surfer guy behind the counter called out to him. Sebastian didn't have time to waste, and he ran down the beach, dove into the water once more with the surfboard, and rocketed off, using a free hand as propulsion. His target was a cruise-liner floating in the distance.

Once upon the cruise ship, Sebastian blended in well enough with the crew, who wore mostly white attire. He slipped into the kitchen, grabbed a tray full of crystal glasses filled with champagne, and walked briskly out onto the deck. His demeanor was kept stoic as he passed out drinks, making his way slowly to the cabin. After arriving at his destination, he tossed the tray to the side and darted into an empty room just as a group of crewmen walked by. Needless to say, he wasn't keen on causing any unwanted attention. In the ceiling of his room, he noticed a small service opening. The lock melted away at his touch, and he slipped through the opening, closing the latch behind him.
After navigating the pipe labyrinth, Sebastian ended up next to a huge exhaust pipe. It felt warm to his touch. He slid his hands along the surface, forcing the metal to turn red from heat. The redness shimmered, revealing an image of Sonata, much like the mirror he had interacted with earlier. One of the Queen's maidens stared back at him.
"Fire Warrior, reporting in," Sebastian announced.
"Roger. Why are you being so quiet?" She asked.
"I'm in the inner workings of a cruise-liner. The coordinates I received were wrong. What is Mireille's location?"
"Sorry, Sebastian. She may be too close to the princess, so she can't do anything to blow her cover." The maiden frowned.
"Why does she need camouflage?" He asked.
"We don't know at this time, but I'd wager that Soren is nearby."
"Soren," Sebastian snarled, "Very well. Keep me posted. I wish to speak with Queen Soya now, if I may."
The maiden nodded, "Give me just a minute."
The image faded, leaving Sebastian alone for a time. As he waited for his Queen to answer his call, he could faintly hear music. Frantically, he looked around to try and locate the source. A vision came to his mind, some sort of auditorium. He closed his eyes to try and get a better picture. There were two figures in the auditorium, of which Sebastian couldn't make out either one of them. His brow furrowed as he concentrated. Of what he could tell, it seemed to be some kind of magic, yet it was very weak. Sebastian knew he had to be getting fairly close to the source.
His eyes snapped open as the picture returned.
"Your majesty," Sebastian announced, "Fire Warrior reporting in."

Soya heard Sebastian and smiled, "Hello Sebastian, how is everything down there? I hope finding my daughter isn't turning out to be difficult. I heard that Soren is already down there." The slight frown on her face showed that she wasn't comfortable. "I have a feeling he may try to win her heart in a fair game but I fear he might win should he spend time with Astra. You're one of my most trusted warriors Sebastian and I'm counting on you to save her. Mireille is already with Astra, this I know. Trust her for she is on our side and one of our greatest allies." Soya still felt a heavy weight on her shoulders. How could she be so blind to not see a spell that was being cast right in front, well behind her in this case. Never again would she let her guard down so easily.

Sebastian watched her through the screen, nodding.
"Yes, your Majesty. I have reason to believe she is trying to call out to you in the form of her songstress magic. I have been able to pick up visions sent from her since I arrived on Earth. I believe that I am getting close, now. Do not worry, my Queen. I will return the Princess to you. Please be patient in the meantime." His transmission ended as Sebastian used up too much energy, melting through the metal pipe.

He enlarged the hole he made, and slipped into the exhaust pipe. His armor surrounded him as he fell down into the bowels of the engine room. He stood up amongst the super heated coals underneath his feet. The smoke billowed around him, obscuring his vision. He placed his hands on the sides of the boiler, and the red light began fading from his surroundings. His eyes narrowed from behind his visor as he focused all of his concentration at the image of the auditorium he had seen in Astra's vision. While his suit began glowing red hot, he clenched his eyes shut and prepared for his departure. The metal around his began vibrating and creaking. His armor tightened around him, and, with a mighty explosion, Sebastian teleported. The cruise-liner's engine room immediately turned off, and the boiler he had been in exploded, causing dozens of crew men to hit the deck as the entire ship rocked in the water.

Sebastian appeared above what looked like some sort of academy. He estimated himself to be several kilometers above it. To keep himself from falling, he used the heat waves to stabilize himself. As he took aim for a good place to land, the temperature outside the school rose about ten Celsius degrees; a side effect of his arrival. He began free-falling towards the school, prepared for his landing.

Astra opened the entrance doors and laughed, "No that's okay, I have enough at home." Pulling out her keys she felt something odd and looked around, "Does something feel weird to you? Like someone is about to make a entrance kinda thing?" She didn't know why but a feeling was nagging her like she should know where this person already was. Shaking her head Astra was beginning to be convinced that she was going crazy. "You know what forget I said that." Walking over to her 1969 Dodge Charger that was a dark red, Astra pressed the unlock button on her key fab and opened the door. "See you at my house?"

Sebastian plummeted down to the ground, colliding into the roof of the auditorium. His armor vanished as he landed on his feet. The instruments around him vibrated loudly from the shock-wave his landing created. The heat around him surged, but he removed it to avoid burning up the objects around him. His eyes darted to the door, and he ran over to it, bursting straight through it with little regard for its appearance. His target was in sight now, and nothing would stand in his way now.

He ran out just in time to see the two girls talking in the parking lot. Sebastian couldn't recognize the first girl, but the other girl; there was no mistaking it. He had found his Princess at long last, and he was damned if he was going to lose her trail now. He ran out to the parking lot towards the two girls, sliding to a stop in front of Astra's car. He knelt down to one knee.

"I am the Fire Warrior, Sebastian Rotheram. I am in service to the Queen Soya Marie Skye. I have finally found you, Majesty," he announced loudly.

Sebastian wasn't an idiot, seeing as he had been briefed in the possibility of Astra's memory loss. His statement was intended to spark some sort of memory, but his other intention was to reveal to Queen Soya that he had found the Princess. At the mention of her name, a looking glass in Sonata rang for one of Queen Soya's maidens, revealing the scene to the Queen.

Anna was in the middle of about to ask what house is it, when he slid down the car. Anna had her mouth open then closed it and looked at Sebastian.

"Rude."

Anna turned to look back at Astra,

"And what is your address?"

Anna then tilted her head at Sebastian, "Blurting such things so loudly. We shouldn't bring attention to ourselves. Idgit." Anna sighed.

Astra blinked at the scene before her. Here was a man saying he was a fire warrior and Anna was telling him not to bring attention to themselves. Hearing her question Astra smiled, "664 Tranquil Dr." Turning her attention to the man kneeling before her Astra felt a tug within her chest. Getting on his level, she leaned closer with a questioning look. A flicker of recognition graced her face and in a royal voice she spoke, "Sebastian? Is that really you?" Once that was said Astra shook her head as if nothing had just happened. "I feel like I know you but I can't really place it."

~~~~
Soya felt a tear fall down her cheek. Her daughter was right there and she didn't miss the moment of having her memory of Sebastian. She placed a hand on the mirror before her and smiled, "My daughter...you look the same before you were cast down. I know you are safe now that you have Anna and Sebastian with you." Stepping away she gave her daughter one last look, "Keep her safe Sebastian...you've done well." Turning away Soya decided that visiting the private gardens would be nice. It was Astra's favorite place to be besides adventuring wherever she could.
Sebastian studied her reaction carefully. It became apparent that she could remember bits and pieces, but her memory seemed non-specific. Whatever had been done was powerful, there was no doubt. He stood up, brushing off his clothes. Unbeknownst to Astra, the subtle impressions of the way he carried himself changed slightly, more to that of a civilian on Earth. He met her gaze and smiled.
"I can't believe you don't remember me. It's Sebastian. We met years ago, my father was a friend of your father. They thought we would make good friends. We used to play this game all the time, where you were the princess and I was your knight. You called me the 'Fire Warrior' because my favorite color was red. There was even a red knight armor costume I used to wear. You don't remember any of that?" He struggled slightly with this information. None of it was false, except the part about his father, but he knew she may remember it as happening on Earth.
When Astra was little, she and Sebastian used to go on pretend adventures in her private gardens when he was back on leave from active combat. The truth was that he and her father were very close, brothers in arms. While her father was away, Sebastian kept his word to her father to keep her safe and teach her the things her father may not have been able to have over the course of his long campaign.
Sebastian smiled, "It's good to see you, Astra."
Standing there Astra bit her lip. She felt the truth in his words and smiled, "I know you're not lying to me and I'm sorry if I don't remember it well. Most things are hazy if I try to dwell on things of my past." Turning to Anna, Astra was about to speak when she felt a migraine hit her full force. Grabbing her head she instantly felt faint and passed out falling to the ground.
Anna reached out and caught Astra.
Anna sighed and glared at Sebastian,
"See what you caused. You can only do a little at a time, so this doesn't happen. This will take time and a lot of effort and we need to work together on keeping her protected both from Soren and her health because of the spell he put on her." Anna frowned.
"But it nice to finally meet one of you, I am Anna; my name here is Mireille LaNoir."
Sebastian continued studying Astra, "Yes, I am well aware of what I have caused. Despite outward appearances, I have been sending images of her condition to a specialist in Sonata. The more data I collect, the more likelihood that a counter-spell can be manufactured. Unless you feel the need to divulge what you do know, Anna."
He switched his gaze over to her, "Queen Soya informed me of your abilities with time magic. She kept it brief, and I don't expect to know anything further about it. However, your assistance will be invaluable in breaking the spell. If you have any information, please send it to Queen Soya."
His words seemed calm, and filled with the edge of someone who had seen many challenging battles. Sebastian almost seemed like he had experienced something similar to this exact situation.
"I will keep a safe distance for now," Sebastian continued, "Let me know how long she keeps a faint memory of me, along with the other warriors as they arrive." He started to walk away from Anna.
"You don't need to leave, Sebastian." Anna frowned deepened as she sat down with Astra head on her lap. "You just need watch what are you say to trigger memories, just not so much at once."
Anna looked up him and smiled gentle, "Your presence around her will help for bringing her subtle memories about the past. It would be beneficial to stick around your princess, Mr. Rotheram."
Asalie found herself drawn to one of the homes nearby, quaint and simple, yet it somehow also seemed important. She whistled Crestor down to her and allowed him to rest on her shoulder as she walked around. If it came down to it, she would create a random thicket of roses around herself to make her invisible and confuse the people living there. She looked down at the time on her little crystal watch and found it to be late afternoon. She sighed softly and made her way back to the edge of the forest, settling herself in a tiny clearing, overlooking the homes. Pulling off her watch, she pressed a little button on the back of it and waited a moment.
"Reporting in to Sonata and to my fellow warriors. Earth checking in. Please respond." She gently spoke into it before continuing to watch the homes nearby. Would the princess be here now? Or still at school? She had nothing else to do for the moment besides waiting for a response, so she lay down on the grass, eyes facing the homes, and allowed Crestor to flap his wings for a moment and settle down for a little daytime nap. Asalie, however, would not be joining him in sleep. She had a far more important mission.
Astra groaned and turned her head to the side, "Seb...astian" Sweat began to trickle down her face from the dream she was having. Or so she thought.
Astra ran from her mother in tears because of the news she was told. Her father had died in the war. Shaking her head, Astra went into her private garden stopping by the fountain. Putting her face in her hands Astra kept crying until she felt a hand on her shoulder. Looking up there was her fire warrior. He always seemed to be there when she needed him and for that she was greatful. Sniffling Astra choked on her words, "Seb..as...tian." Throwing herself into his arms Astra balled her eyes out and screamed. This went on till she fell asleep which resulted Sebastian carrying her to her room.
~~~

Soya felt his presence and frowned. Blinking she appeared in her throne room and crossed her arms over her chest, "Hello Soren, why are you here? You have a lot of nerve showing your face after what you did to my daughter."

Sebastian stopped watching the castle of Sonata through a mirror generated by the flame generated from his hand. He narrowed his eyes, pondering Soren's words. His mirror shifted over to Asalie's location.

"Earth, Fire responding. I'm sending you the coordinates of our location. You should be able to track my heat signature through tectonic activity if we move. Be careful, I don't believe that the enemy is acting alone," he said grimly.

Sebastian observed Astra's status, "It isn't possible that he figured out my location, so another warrior must be close by. There also shouldn't be a reason he has discovered your identity so easily, Mireille. Something isn't right." He seemed to be pondering to himself, moreso than he was talking to Anna directly.

He looked over at Anna, "What does the future tell you about the outcome of this?"

Right when he asked the question, a call came in from Sonata to him. He conjured flames again, this time greeted by the face of one of the Queen's maidens.
"Fire Warrior. I'm sending you orders from-" she began
"Save it," Sebastian spat, "I know what the Queen wants. Tell her I will not honor her request. I gave Astra's father my word that no harm will come to her. This promise is held in the highest esteem; it is the Dying King's Vow that I uphold. None shall break it."
"But Seb-"
"None shall break it," he stated harshly. Then he ended the call, extinguishing the flame in case of Astra's sudden consciousness.

Frederick yawned as he stepped into the scene, watching all of them as he tilted his head to the side. Obviously, he was in human form, and his long hair was bound to a very loose ponytail. His sky blue eyes were alight and glinting mischievously; a small smile of amusement played on his lips. "What a naughty boy, you are..." he said as he tapped the fire warriors shoulders, "dissobaying orders from your beloved bit- oh, I mean queen," he smirked a little, chuckling softly. Pausing, he glanced at the others there, before sauntering over to Mireille and gently grasping hold of her yaw, tilting her head up towards him. "Ooh, pretty," he mused, his smirk softening to a smile before he slid his arm around her waist and pulled her close to him, "You know, if I weren't working for my brother and all that boring stuff, I'd totally ask you out... maybe we could still go out in your free time, what do you think, darling?" he winked at her, smiling handsomely before letting go and walking over to the princess, leaning over her. Frederick watched her intently for a moment before straightening up and shrugging his shoulders. "She's not ugly but she's not pretty either... my brother really has a questionable taste when it comes to females..."

As if hearing Frederick's somewhat insult, Astra used her leg to knock him off his feet and then stood up after fully waking up. Leaning over him her emerald eyes gleamed with mirth, "Hmm...you're not ugly but you're not handsome either. I don't think you have a shot with Mireille." Chuckling lightly she looked over to Sebastian and Anna, "So, I guess we meet at my house then? If you like Sebastian you can ride with me. My father wont be home till an hour before the party so you really don't need to worry about meeting him till then." Looking back down to the man who had the audacity to judge her appearance, not that she cared in the least because she's not here to please him, Astra narrowed her eyes, "And who might you be? If you play nice maybe I'll consider letting you come as well." Pausing she lightly tapped her chin, "Also keep your hands to yourself, no one likes a lecher."

Frederick yelped as he was kicked to the ground, glaring up at the princess. "To kick a flower like me," he sniffed, "your manners are unsightly, my dear princess," he stood up wearily, brushing his clothes into place and then grasping hold of his hair, inspecting it closely. "Aww, and you messed up my hair which I spent so long on making it look decent..." he continued, gazing at her accusingly, "you're a little boy-girl, aren't you? There's quite some power in those pretty legs of yours." he trailed off and paused as she asked who he was. "I'm Frederick Smith..." he mused, "not that you would know who I am, I'm new to this town," He yawned and then waved his hand in dismissal. "Darling, I'm too old for you... any of you, really, but I suppose love has no boarders!" he ventured dramatically, "ah well, possibly not for dear Bassy, over there, but I do not think he has a preference in men... does he?" Frederick winked at him before turning back to the princess, "no, I have no interest in your party.. though, perhaps my brother would..."
