a character in “LOTR: The Rise of Angmar”, as played by Alator

Description

(The image is meant to be Pallando and is not my work)

Image

Name: Alator

Race: Maia

Age: 10330 (Created at the beginning of time with the other maiar.)

Personality: He is very determined with an iron sense of justice. With his great age and experience he is widely considered wise, although not near the likes of Olorín (Gandalf). He is quite zealous in the beliefs and it can be hard to change him if he has made a decision. He can be quite grumpy and can come with dry comments rather frequently. He prefers to work alone, despite knowing that sometimes he might need help. Although not taking it to extreme levels, he is proud and confident. He is patient and if need be, he has no difficulties in waiting to achieve his goals.

Appearence: He is dressed in light blue robes and has a long hair and beard, both in the colour of silver. He has blue and watchful Eyes, and stand tall at over six and a half feet.

Strengths: He is a powerful maia whom's main interest and knowledge lies with nature, especially the elements. Leading to that he has a larger skill with them than anything else when it comes to spells. He has a deep and powerful voice wich he can use to inspire and instill fear in his enemies. Alator is perceptive and misses Little what is happening around him, and he does not lack for intelligence.

Weaknesses: It has happened more than once that he has been lured into a trap with his pride, and in a few occasions his confidence. Although powerful, he is not near as powerful as the likes of Sauron and spells can tire him quickly. And despite being a capable swordsman he is not a master and can therefore be vulnerable if it came to melee fighting.

Backstory: When the World was created Alator was one of the many who became maiar of Manwë. Freedom was something that Alator always loved, from the very beginning, he spent much time exploring Arda, residing in different places in Valinor and learning new things from those who lived there, when the Eldar was discovered he devoted much attention into getting to know them.

He fought on the side of the Valar in the wars against Melkor, in every war, the last being the War of Wrath, were he along with another maia in service of Manwë defeated a Balrog.

When the Host of Valinor departed Middle-Earth Alator took up Residence for a second time in Valmar, the capital of Valinor. A city of both Ainur and Vanyar. Although he still made a few visits in Middle-Earth in the second age. Although still devoting his time to learning. Wen the Valar decided to send emissaries to Middle-Earth to aid it's people against the evil of Sauron Alator did not choose to become one of them, not wanting to bind himself to something. He wanted to help, when he wanted to help. Not comitting himself to a task wich he needed to fulfill to be able to go back

Equipment: He wields a staff of dark Wood with a blue gem on the top to be able to focus his Powers. He also carries an elven longsword wich the elves of Tirion forged for him, called Elenhón (Meaning Starheart in Quenya, the language of the High Elves).

So begins...

Ah, Fornost, the seat of Malvegil... Alator thought as he rode up on a hill, and the great city became visible for him.

The letter he had recieved he still had with him, Malvegil had not provided any details except it being of great importance. Yet he had not needed to say anything more. The Maia was well aware what was happening, someone, or something. Was uniting the evil of the North under him. No wonder why it made Malvegil so anxious that he sent for a Maia to help him. Alator did not blame him, although possessing strength and courage, men was not the strongest of the races. And no doubt he did not want a full-scale invasion of the kingdoms of the Dúnedáin.

The white elven stallion he had gotten in Imladris snorted and stood patiently still until Alator signalled it to move again. With the speed of an arrow they set off down towards the massive gates of the Citadel-City. As he passed wagons, riders and men simply walking to and from the city he heard conversations starting. No doubt he was a rare sight indeed. The guards bearing the symbol of Arthedain stepped aside and let him ride through the gates. He slowed down the pace, for the streets were quite crowded.

After a few minutes he rode into the courtyard. The Citadel of Fornost loomed above him. Beautiful, strong and massive. The Courtyard was of grey stone, the Royal guards stood in pairs, guarding different entrances to the citadel, banners flying from their high spears.

As he dismounted, the main gate was pushed open and out, followed by six Royal guards. Came Malvegil, king of Arthedain.

A stableboy came running to lead his horse away to the stables, Alator said a few Words in Quenya, telling him to follow the lad. The horse obeyed. As Malvegil strode down the stairs, Alator walked to meet him. His staff creating an echo every time it hit the ground.

Now, let's find out what the king wants me to do...

Having rested in a forest nearby, Alhiniath let his horse run gleefully with himself grinning on top. Alhiniath loved action and speed, and the meadow gave the two welcoming breezes in the long gallop. They stopped on a hill to peer at the sight before them. The white haired elf tilted his head, Fornost, he thought. "Well, off to see what lies ahead, my friend," he said to the panting horse, who gladly ran half the way and trotted down the last until the sights of the city met them. The direct elven warrior gave the guards a short glance when being escorted inside the citadel. The stable boy grinned wryly as the horse didn't own any reins. The elf rode bare back, signalizing with his weight and feet. Alhiniath shrugged off a soft order to the proud and young horse, making the stable boy strive to follow it towards the stables, and the elf chuckled before looking around for a person naming himself Malvegil, the one he was given orders to serve.

Alator turned his gaze to were he just had come from when an elf with silver hair rode in on the courtyard.

So here comes the first of my companions... he thought.

Malvegil reached Alator and nodded a curt greeting, and waited for the elf to reach him. He signalled the two to follow him "The third I sent for has not arrived yet, although I do not doubt that he will." they walked in silence for a few seconds towards the gate that Malvegil recently had emerged from. He spoke again "No doubt you are aware of why I have sent for you..." he stopped and abruptly turned around, looking at them. "Something is on the move in the frozen regions North of my realm of Arthedain, since the fall of Sauron the forces of evil has never increased in number, until now. My task is simple; Go north and find out what is happening, who is behind this. Do what you can to stop them and inform me of the situation. You will stay as my guests tonight and leave early tomorrow. My guard will show you to your quarters."

And with that Malvegil kept Walking, leaving the two with one of his guards who said "Follow me." then started marching towards a smaller door into the citadel to the west.

Alator looked at the elf, his gaze studying, judging, observing and asked "And who are you may I ask?".

The elf quickly and regally turned his head to stare at the bearded ancient being with icy eyes mirroring those on him. They did so only for a few seconds however, until they lit up with a confident and serving smile; "Alhiniath Adan is my name. I am thrilled to be by your side, great Maia. Your name goes by Alator, yes?" the elf's voice rolled deeper than custom of his race as he spilled his knowledge of the greater and spoken of being on middle earth. Alhiniath wasn't interested in too much reading and history as most of his people, but this Maia had been around for a while and wasn't that much renown among the elves, but renowned nonetheless.

Whatever the situation, the elves did not seem to lack in courtesy it seemed to Alator. He smiled wryly.

"I go under many names, although Alator is what the elves and the men of the North call me. Regarding yourself, your skin is unusually dark... Are you one of the Avari? The elves whom remains untouched by the light of Valinor? Or do you have Eastern mannish blood?"

The guard pushed open the door and signalled to them to follow with his hand, Before entering the Citadel. Alator reached out with his mind and opened the door for himself and the elf. They came into a small hallway, leading up to some sort of guest house. The door closed behind them when Alator let go of the magic. "Here are your quarters, I wish you good luck on your journey." the guard said and quickly strode out, quite clearly uncomfortable with Malvegils two guests.

Alator looked around. It was definitely not the most luxurous, yet it would do just fine. Fur carpets, a great hearth and a few chairs with a table stood in the main room, and doors to the bedchambers were in the northern end of the room. Alator turned around to recieve a response from the elf.

The elf was glad the guard had taken their attention between question and reply. That way he got to ready himself for an answer fitting for such a being as Alator. Alhiniath was an extraordinary reckless and emotional elf, but strong enough to cope with himself. He'd mastered his dark sides through the years and replied as matter of factually rather than with insult; "It is a lineage weak within my blood line, though somehow it manifested in me like this. I do not see it as an obstacle however." His icy blue white eyes shone above the tight lips, giving promise of not to underestimate him where he stood in the middle of the room proud, yet timid in the company of the wiser Maia.

Alator walked over to one of the chairs and took a seat, with his right arm he gave the elf a sign to take a seat aswell. "I see that you are quite young for being an elf, although far from a child. Tell me, how old are you? My guess is between one to two thousand years... It is quite important really, if you have experience with the powers of evil or not." He said as he removed his sword Elenhón from his side, with the hilt on, and placed it against the chair instead next to his staff.

He took out a pipe, and a few hobbit leaves from the small bag on his belt. In the Shire, he had grown quite fond of it. He lit them with a spell and took the pipe in his mouth, waiting for a reply. The elf was an unusual one, one that intrigued Alator.

"I am far older than you think, great maia." The elf walked over to sit by the chair without question, having already taken awareness of the entire room, he sat confidently on the edge of the chair- always ready, with bow and arrows lying down by his chair, the rest of his equipment was still on. His eyes gazed in the air and sometimes they flickered on to the maia as he spoke; "I have reached the age of 3600, and my confrontations with evil creatures and evil doers has been many. So many and often that it is all I know. I am a warrior born to defend the light." Even though the elf strived to seem his age, as the maia had thought of him otherwise, he couldn't help but give him a foxy glare at the end, barely detectable however as the elf lifted his chin again, wondering when Alator would stop these tiny insults. He didn't know if the Maia was aware of it or no, but as elves were to keep their temper at any time, he decided to stay that way.

Alhiniath had been forced to cope with minor comments about his existence and even though he accepted the way he was, he didn't like to be reminded of his weaknesses, as of this time his way of sometimes acting like an emotional elfling. He became more aware of how he presented himself wondering if he indeed looked or acted younger than he was.

Alator raised an eyebrow at the quick glance that came, he saw that anger rose in the elf, although he hid it well "If my words has insulted you, you should know that was not my intent. But you are different from many elves at your age, they turn very formal. More than I personally like, thankfully younger elves, and the likes of Elrond are not the same way. They know how to laugh, and they can show their feelings open. Some elves, a great deal fewer, tries to hard to hide their feelings, that feelings soon becomes strange to them. And compared to the likes of the great Círdan and Glorfindel you are quite young. Killing a tribe of Orcs on their own is no match, what I wondered is that have you seen the Dark Lord's Power up Close, did you fight in the War of the Last Alliance of the wars with Sauron before that?"

Alator wondered if his way of being would become a problem, elves were slow to forgive, and this elf was quite different from the ones he was used to.

The elf was surprised the maia brought up his insult, and let it go by a quick accepting nod. His ongoing words created reactions only revealing themselves in frowns, cock of a brow or distant memories shadowing the icy eyes. Alhiniath also smiled warmly by the way Alator spoke of his people, but wouldn't admit that he agreed about the sad lack of feelings. Speaking of, he himself was hit by a feeling he mistook for dis acknowledgement rather than jealousy when lord Elrond was mentioned, but the feeling luckily vanished when he confronted him about things he knew and was certain about; "I was," he replied and dropped his eyes on the floor for a moment; "I was fighting valiantly and was well earned for my service, though elves fell hard, we're a coping race."

Giving the maia a glance, he finished; "I have fought many battles and it is mostly all I know. I do not care about who or what I slay, as long as I find a way and serve the light. I swing my sword and I pull the bow-" Alhiniath stopped himself while staring at the maia keenly for a moment before he loosened up and went back to the tranquility his teachers and masters had trained him hard to do. There was immense power within the elf, which needed immense control. He'd not seen the dark lord up close, but he felt it, in his blood he felt it. It tempted him, it mocked him and it provoked him. The elf had fought both in service and in spite. Every swing he made of his sword was a plead of belonging to the light, and not the dark.

"Thankfully this Dark Lord is a mere shadow of the former, Sauron was only a servant of Morgoth. Whom's servant's was uncountable and power was immense. I was there, I fought alongside the Host of Valinor in every war, including the last. A dear friend of mine, Orian, fell before one of his Balrogs. I defeated the foul demon, yet Orian remains in the halls of Mandos with so many else... Morgoth has destroyed so many of the greatest things ever created, like the trees, may he forever be cursed."

The ancient and deep eyes of Alator, looking like they were made out of blue ice decended upon the elf. In them was sadness and wrath.

"I have come to help you in your struggle. I shall not rest until every servant of Morgoth is gone. You should get some sleep now. We are leaving very early tomorrow."

(Maybe not immense power, I would maybe only Count Gil-Galad and Galadriel immensely powerful....)

The elf's eyes widened at the maia's telling, and with the change in Alator, Alhiniath truly understood why he felt so inclined to trust him. Staring at the maia, Alhiniath said with a teasing sparkle in his eye; "You tell me to go to bed after such a story..." He smiled at the disbelief Alator created in him by the given advice too; didn't he know elves did not sleep? Or did he not care putting it out differently?

Alator raised an eyebrow "I am sure that you will manage it, although your body does not need rest, your mind does. And we need your senses alert, these lands are no longer as safe as they were. The last thing we want is getting ambushed. We will take the way past Amon Sûl, were the Orcs sadly are on the move."

He waited for the elf to go. It was beginning to darken, and they would leave before dawn.

((Actually they do 'sleep', I cannot find proof that they do not. They have beds, and I am pretty sure that Gildor and the elves who met Frodo when he just had left the Shire 'slept', they just didn't sleep the same way as the Hobbits... Instead they rest their minds, wich is pretty much like sleeping :P))

Alhiniath's cheer turned to shame, and annoyance- if it was directed towards himself or the maia he did not yet know- but he covered it up with a solemn demeanor and decided to let the maia get his will when standing up; "Good night, then, Alator. I bid thee good rest." The truth was, the elf didn't feel like resting, and didn't quite like being sent away by someone he'd just met, claiming they knew what best for him, but even so, Alhiniath had been following orders and listened to his elders as a habit, making him easily head for his dorm with his belongings. In his dorm, the elf would soon find himself in a peaceful meditation, gathering energy for the next day, determined to prove himself worthy for the maia.

(( Yeah, I know. True that, bro. :P However, he did use the word 'sleep', and that's enough for Alhiniath to point out a mistake on Alator, who until then showed perfection in his being. That's why the: 'or did he not care put it out differently.';) Even though Alhiniath gets very amazed, he's also jealous, so he finds mistakes about people to feel better about himself, and jokes about it. It was only the details of the words' definition I was kinda nazi detailed mini god moding about haha sry, lol xD The elves take in some form of meditation, and even though I don't have the right answers to much, I like to believe the elves sleeping in beds, but that they rarely do. haha, to keep up with you I need to do research for almost every reply I make haha. I like to learn and read about it, no problem, I hope I don't mess about too much. ))

Alator remained in his seat, heavy in thoughts, who was it, that truly had the power to unite the Orcs? The room got darker as the fire almost went out. The Maia did not hear the very low sound of the door opening an closing.

Nor did he see that two men cloaked in black had entered the room behind him. Silently approaching him.

Alator had a feeling that something was happening, yet it was small enough to ignore it. Thankfully the wooden floor of their quarters was old, a very soft sound was heard from behind him. Combined with that odd feeling he lurched from the chair, grabbing is staff in the process and spun around. Only six feet from a man, all in black. The man threw himself forward, with a curved knife in his hand, cursing in the black speech spoken by the Black Númenoreans. Alator leaned backwards and reeled back to avoid the thrust, as the man passed him Alator chanelled his power into the staff and struck the man in the back. With a light-blue flash of light and a sound like a thunderclap the man flew into the wall to the room were the elf rested, half of the man going through the wall, leaving only his legs visible.

The light though, annhilated his nightvision, he struggled to see...

At the moment of the two assassin's entry, Alhiniath's ear twitched where he sat staring out his window. His icy blue left eye found its way in the direction of the sound he wasn't yet sure he'd imagined or misplaced, but a sudden movement made him rise and a man hurtling through the wall made him bolt away and towards the door with one of his daggers in hand. Flinging open the door, Alhiniath had already pin pointed the weight and placement of his target. With swift and steady moves, he threw the dagger in the man's neck. The sudden death of a corpse had barely fallen when Alhiniath spoke; "Forgive me, great maia," and his intense eyes rolled over at the older male, fear glitching as he looked him over; "I couldn't risk him acting afterwards." The elf blamed himself for ruining their chance of interrogation, but couldn't risk the death of Alator by any chance. He shifted his gaze to study the corpse's clothing and style for information.

((Aaw, Alhiniath never redeems himself good enough x3 ))

The second would-be assassin rolled down next to Alator, the elven dagger buried in his neck.

"Nontheless, it seems to me that I might not be alive if you had not been here. You have my Gratitude."

At his command, the gem on the staff lit up and gave them light. He Went down to one knee and searhced the body. He found nothing of importance.

Alator got back on his feet again and said "I believe it is time that we go... Get your things and meet me in the stables in ten minutes. I have to explain to the guards why two men lies dead in our quarters...".

Alhiniath nodded and did what the maia ordered while thinking; Some guards. Retrieving his things and cleaning the dagger to sheath it back on his thigh, he went for the stables to make ready the horses. He was glad to meet Alator's white elven horse, which was taller than his mare, Gurine, and as he respectively spent time with it, Gurine whined in light jealousy, making the elf chuckle.

True to what he had said, Alator arrived in the stables ten minutes later. Smiling for himself, the expression on the guard's face when he told him what had happened, and also the fact that Alator had not been especially pleased when he had told him about it did not decrease the guard's mixed expression of suprise and horror.

The Elf was waiting for him, who seemed to be trying to get to know Alator's horse, Lamandé. Alator nodded a greeting and got up on the horse, he stroked the neck of the horse and said "Alhiniath, are you ready to go?"
