The midterm of her first year in middle school, Kayoko had been scoring about average until then. Having scored 90 on such important tests she was justifiably excited to share with her parents. The only response she got from them was the information her elder sister did better, not a single word of praise her way.
Again in the first year of middle school, it was revealed Kayoko was a huge coward. A dog chased her on the way to school, she ran away crying. A strange boy saved her and asked if she was okay, he scared her, she ran away crying. Rumor spread about Sato's younger sister, and thus everyone knew to protect her. While not thankful, it was due to her sisters reputation Kayoko was protected, not ostracized.
One fated evening while she was real young, Kayoko heard her sibling singing alone in her room. It was probably just along to some anime op or ed, but it sparked her interest in singing. This was before she resented her sibling, but due to her fear of being compared she has kept singing to herself.
