Wiping her hands on her apron, Aj-sha looked outside the open window into her garden. The wildlife swayed and shivered as the sounds of rolling thunder filled the air. It would be time for dinner soon. She began to hum softly to herself as she cleaned off her work table, sweeping up chopped herbs into cloth bags for later use and pouring her newly made tincture into a glass jar. She twisted it's cap on tight and stored it on one of her many shelves.

Aj-sha grabbed a log of chopped wood and fed it to the fire in the fireplace. She was gonna need it nice and hot of baking cornbread. Today she thought it would be nice to have ham sandwiches and corn bread with cold glasses of milk. Nice and filling but not to hearty for such a warm day. She bent over and grabbed her small cast iron cauldron, carrying it over to her work table where she would prepare everything. And where she and Af-Rais, her apprentice, would eat. She smiled softly as she ran her fingers over the tables worn smooth surface. They really did do everything at this table.

Af-Rais was standing outside, overlooking the woods before him. Amidst the trees lie a bird, bellowing its song throughout the land. The storm would be coming soon, ravaging the monument of sticks that he had worked so hard on. He through a tarp over it and tied it down, turning to the bird to bellow a hearty "Hey! Don't touch this!" The bird cawed back, leaving a smirk on Af-Rais' face.

He gathered up as much fire wood as he could and filled it into a small sack as the thunder growled behind him. He slowly strolled his way back home, whistling an old song he had heard as a child. The leaves fell around him, dancing and leaving a breathtaking trail behind him. "My first test as an apprentice was to make the leaves fall. Why didn't I just wait for autumn..." ran through his mind as he flopped the sack behind him.

He strolled inside after a long while and tossed the fire wood onto the pile. With his feet kicked up on the table, he flopped his small hat over his eyes to take a nap. He dreamed of the bird touching his monument.

Aj-sha had just finished the cornbread as Af-Rais came into the kitchen. She watched him out of the corner of her eyes as she went about setting up their plates while he seemed to doze off.

She shook her head, "Af-Rais, wake up. And get your feet off the table, please. It's bad manners." She coed, carrying the now full plates over to the table and setting them down before heading over to the ice box to fetch a pitcher of fresh milk.

She glanced at the pile of wood by the fire place, "What were you doing out there all day anyways, silly? With how much wood you brought home I know you weren't chopping lumber all day." She questioned, bringing the pitcher and two small glasses to the table.

When Af-Rais still failed to move or mutter a sound in response she placed her hands on her hips and gave a slight pout. "Af-Rais, I said it was time to wake up." she bent over to get a good look under his hat and softly brushed a few wavy, soft strands of hair out of his face. He was a cute boy, she had to admit that, but his good looks would not make her soft on him. He couldn't just get away with everything. A good witch knew self discipline.

She gave a slight push, making the chair he was sitting on tilt off balance.

Af-Rais fell back with a bang, pulling out his small twig from his pocket as a form of self-defense.

It was not effective.

He looked up at Aj-sha with a scowl on his face. "Hey you're lucky you weren't down here!" he said while trying to stand up and balance himself. His eyes met Aj-sha as he noticed her gorgeous eyes. A smirk drew itself across his lips. "Thanks, though. I was having a pretty bad nightmare." His only form of self defense (the twig, obviously) was tossed onto the table.

"So what's for dinner?" he said as he pulled off his jacket. His white, long-sleeved shirt was much too tight (something he blamed on Aj-sha, saying that she did it on purpose) showing off his strong physique.

Aj-sha giggled softly and ruffled his hair, "How very intimidating you are." She said sarcastically.

"And I would have figured you had learned how to lucid dream by now. Thank you for letting my know you haven't been practicing." She smiled back at him and pulled up a chair next to him at the table, pushing his plate over to him.

"Ham sandwiches and cornbread with some milk to wash it down." She said, answering his question as she poured him a glass.

Aj-sha pushed some of her hair behind her ear and sighed contentedly as the sound of thunder grew louder and cool breeze blew in from the open window, gently flowing over her skin. "By the way, you didn't answer my question. What have you been doing outside all day hun?" She asked, turning her attention to her food.

With the sandwiches and cornbread gone in an instant, Af-Rais wiped the crumbs off of his lips. He took a sip of milk and wiped his newly grown mustache on his sleeve. "I was getting all of this firewood." He pointed to 'all of this firewood.' There lay three pieces. "Not talking to the animals again, no ma'am. I didn't have any conversations with those squirrels. Oh and Al-Barah says hi." Af-rais noticed the perplexed look of Aj-sha. "...Al-Barah is a squirrel" came quietly from his lips.

Aj-sha giggled softly and shook her head, "I'm supposed to be your teacher, not your mother." She coed, standing up and walking over to him. She brushed a few stray crumbs from his cheek.

"What am i ever gonna do with you? If you weren't such a child maybe i'd marry you. But even that might not keep you out of trouble you silly man." She smiled and leaned down, giving him a soft kiss on his cheek.

"Al-Barah sounds nice. Bring them around the garden someday and i'll feed them some chestnuts." She cleared off the table, leaving only Af-Rais's plate and cup in case he wanted to help himself to more food.

"Now hand over the shirt. I won't have you getting it dirtier or i'll be down by the river all day tomorrow just scrubbing your clothes." She teased.

"Me? A child? As if!" Af-Rais said in a serious tone while drinking more of his milk. He had another mustache. "If you weren't such a woman maybe I'd ask you to marry me." He smirked and started unbuttoning his shirt. "Al-Barah's a nice squirrel. Nice enough to eat at the table with us." Af-Rais looked down at the table, with his crumbs still there. "He'd definitely be less messy than me."

He handed his dirty shirt to Aj-sha as the thunder bellowed around them.

A storm was coming.

His only worry was his stick monument.

Aj-sha smirked, "Oh, Am I too much of a woman for you Af-Rais?" She placed her hand on her hip and took his shirt from him as the first few drops of rain began to fall outside.

"I guess i'll just have to find someone else to spend the rest of my life with then." She purred, turning and moving out of the kitchen. She folded up the shirt in her hands and made her way upstairs to put it in their laundry basket.

"If you need me, i'll be changing. Clean up the kitchen when you finish eating, alright?" She yelled down to him before walking into her room, leaving the door cracked so she could hear him if he needed her.

Aj-sha slipped into a blue nightgown and robe, tying it securely around her waist while paying no mind to the Af-Rais statue in her doorway. "Haven't we talked about knocking before Af-Rais?" She questioned, turning towards him and almost giggling at the sight of his red painted cheeks.

She crossed her arms, "Now pick your jaw up off the ground and tell me what your grand idea was. And why it required such urgency that you saw it fit to just let yourself into my bedchamber."

He tried not to stare so he trailed his eyes off. "M-my idea was um... I honestly don't remember..." A nervous giggle fell out of him. "I'm sorry for not knocking... I was never one for good manners" came out with nervous giggles.
He had never really noticed how beautiful she was until now. He never expected to notice while she was changing.
"OH My idea was to sip tea and listen to the rain together. Maybe you could teach me some new spells as well!" came out excitedly. It's as if he was trying to ignore what just happened.

Aj-sha giggled, "Oh you're fine hun. just make a point of remembering to knock from now on." She said, walking closer to him.

"And having some tea out on the porch during the storm does sound nice. We'll see about the new spells though." She ruffled the boys hair and gave him a soft smile.

"How about you go make the tea and i'll make us a little snack before I set up the chairs." She patted him on the shoulder and moved past him, making her way back down the stairs and into the kitchen.

Aj-sha shook her head, "You know not everything has to be done with magic. You're supposed to use it conservatively."

She took a sip of her tea and went to work covering sweet biscuits in jam, "besides i think natural fire make for a better taste." she coed, sticking a biscuit in between Af-Rais's lips.
