Momo headed home after school as Sera and her part ways. She felt a lot better after being comforted by her friend and with just having friends in general. Maybe high school really was going to be different after all she had been through. It had only been a week and she had met some really nice people to call friends; Sera, Kei, Bishop, Silas maybe, recently met Kaoru and Jonathan. She smiled to herself as her finger flicked over her mobile's screen scrolling down the list of numbers that was once empty except for her mother and other important contacts. Hugging her phone, she squealed and skipped all the way home in joy. Momo was also one step closer to her goal of becoming class president. She had already been nominated and just needed to prepare the rally, speech and hope for the best when voting time came around.

As soon as she opened the door, she gave a leap hug to her mother who was in the middle of reading a newspaper. "Oh heavens, you seem happy. Did school go well hmm?" Momo started heading up the stairs as she rushed her summary of the day. "Yeah, things are going well with my new friends, I got nominated for class prez and--" She halted in her steps, halfway up already having remembered something. Turning on her heel and gripping the banisters with a much less excited tone, she continued. "Varthur died too.." Her mother dropped the newspaper and lowered her glasses, "That boy who attended school with you before?" Momo hesitantly nodded. "So young too..." Ms Yakamoto put aside her newspaper and dusted off her long skirt before standing up to grab the phone attached to the wall. "I better send my condolences to his family. We'll have dinner in a bit okay?" Momo nodded and went straight to her room, closing the door gently. She collapsed in a heap onto her bed snuggling some pillows and stuff toys for a while thinking about events that had transpired. The beach excursion had been a blast but it was hard to believe that was the last time she would ever see Varthur's annoying face. She sweat-dropped picturing the boy's drunken strange self which wasn't the best image to remember him by but it was one of the last. I didn't hate him enough for him to pass away... maybe I should consider attending the funeral. Not sure if he would have wished for that though. Sigh.

Rolling on her back a bit, she decided she should catch up with her forum mod duties and her online life. She hadn't gamed in a while and there was leveling up to do if she wanted to keep up with her online friends. But moderating comes first! She reached under her bed for her laptop and placed it on her bed while lying down on her belly in a relaxed position whilst facing the screen, fingers rapidly typing across the keyboard. Most requests are to ban people this time.. she thought, as she scrolled down her inbox of 12 new messages. She paused at a particular one from a friend of hers whose online name went by, Dodo-chi. Unfortunately, she had missed him as his message had been sent only 4 minutes ago.
It read: 'Lumi, I got 46 reports. Beat that. :>'

Momo gritted her teeth as she felt her competitive drive fume a bit. Logically speaking though, it was bound to be this way for a while. Dodo-chi was more popular and a veteran. She was still fresh meat and most members of the community were male, some being sexist toward girl gamers. Momo didn't hide the fact she was female although a part of her wish she had. Maybe she would have been as respected as Dodo-chi was. She shook her head, throwing such thoughts out the window. That would be lying which is wrong. Not happening.
She replied: 'I only have 12.. but that means less work for me wahaha (x. I just missed you by 4 minutes too, o wow ><;; Let me know when you come back online so we can like level up and stuff.'

"Responsibilities are what they are."

The gesture of receiving a gift was nothing uncommon when it comes to him. People who he has no connections with had the tendency to provide him with unnecessary things for the sake of establishing rapport for business dealings. To him, it was as common as the sun that rises from the sky. This is to be expected in the world which he had been introduced to. However, there was something different from the rose which Cassiopeia was giving him. It could not even compare to the luxurious gifts he had in the past. But right now, he sees it to be the most precious. “Thank you.” He took the rose and then looked at the rest of the flowers which she bought.

It was rather a lot. However, he was not going to tell her that. As long as she likes, it was not a trouble for him to accommodate her preferences from time to time. “If you are ready, let us go.” He noted as he lead her and the staff which included Ryou to the car, so they can place her purchased flowers inside. Once, everything was in order. Ryou gave them the standard thank you speech for the customers. He simply gave a nod and waited for Cassiopeia to finish her goodbyes. She always had the unhindered appreciation of people and trust based on the goodness she perceives in them, even if those people don't know it as well.

Image

When it was done, he waited for her to enter the car before he did. Soon enough, they were on the road. The first destination, the Argyris Villa built for her. "I would like to inform you that I might not be able to accompany you during the weekends.” He started as he recalled the phone call he had received from Andrew. His eyes were still on the road while the rose she gave him was placed on his right breast pocket. “My brother will be coming back along with my father, tomorrow.” He was certain that she was well aware about the relationship between him and his father, the renowned and unmatched Business King of the World, Akihiko Shirokami. In truth, he would rather not meet with his father. But, it could not be helped.

There was a red light at the intersection as he stopped the car. He took the opportunity to look at her. “There is also a possibility that I might require you companionship at the request of father.” It is true that him and her have an agreement about their relationship. Regardless, this was an official matter between the Shirokami and Argyris families. He would not even be surprised if an engagement party was held to formally announce this union. “In any case, do not hesitate to call me if you ever need my assistance.” He knew that she has the tendency to never bother him as much as possible. That would be good for him. However, she is his fiancée and he has a responsibility towards her. So, he would have to make it clear. “That is an order.”

His face was emotionless as ever, but those mauve eyes of his held a degree of stern sincerity. There was a green light as he faced forward once more and drove the car. Soon enough, they reached the villa. Servants were already at the gates waiting to escort their mistress. “Good night, Cassiopeia.” He noted as he waited for her to leave the car and have her flowers taken as well. Once their goodbyes were done, he took his leave and went back to his place, the high-rise condominium known around the district to be the home to only elites. Upon his return, he went straight to his place which is located at the top floor.

There were no one to greet him like the servants he had grew up with back at the Main House. It was something he preferred, honestly. Many would have conclude that he probably was used to being pampered and being given what he wanted without a drop of sweat. However, it was far from how he deals with things. Everything has a result and Everything has a cause, he must pay on his own. In any case, Andrew would be returning and would begin his duties once more. That would be the only servant he allows firmly on his side, despite the overzealousness. Taking a seat on the living room sofa, Aeon loosened his tie and gazed at the documents, he had left on the table. There was work to do and so he will do it probably for the rest of the night. It was yet again another task needed to be completed, that is all.

"Wah!""It's done, um ah ju-just s-sit d-own." Raiden blinked a few times at how easily startled his cousin was before rubbing the back of his neck and excusing it as a part of her normal behavior when walking further into the room to see Shoo fast asleep in a cosy corner. He was considering apologizing for startling her, but then he would end up apologizing for a lot more. Meh, whatever. I'm not that scary. He did as was told and sat down at the table patiently while looking at the time, wondering if Lumi and the others were online right about now. His gaze was fixed at where the kitchen was when he heard Mai shuffle about with the stool. Maybe... I should have offered to serve the dinner at least. I mean, she's the guest here and rather small to reach the cabinets. Before he could offer his assistance though, she was back with the servings wearing an apron he hadn't seen in a while. It was kind of cute on her considering the size was a bit too big and almost dragging along the floor. Feeling peckish the more the food's aroma filled his senses, he picked up his chopsticks and began eating. He was well rehearsed in table manners despite his delinquent appearance and how he didn't need to apply it often. He preferred eating at home compared to restaurants, for the comfort. If he had to eat outside, it was always a much smaller meal to avoid mess.

"D-do you li-like the foo-od?" Raiden looked up from his meal and realized he had been too engrossed in managing his time and being hungry that he hadn't thanked his cousin properly yet. Looking over at her across from the table he said, "It's a lot better than what I usually have. Thanks Mai. I appreciate it." His expression remained serious with the absence of a smile but it was said in all sincerity. As he resumed eating, he pondered over their relationship as cousins. It had been a long time since they had talked let alone seen each other but they were adapting to each other pretty well given the sudden change of circumstances. He had a gut feeling Mai was expecting to be living with both him and his parents too but his parents had taken a liking to travelling Europe recently. Staying together all alone was just a temporary thing but Raiden preferred it if it meant being away from his old man longer. "My.. parents, your aunt and uncle that is, may be visiting us on Sunday just to check everything is okay. Maybe only for an hour or two before heading off to France or something." Raiden brought up as he reached over for a second serving. "So, yeah.. may have to tidy up a bit. Not much but I hope that's okay." As he was about to bring his chopsticks up to his mouth to resume eating, his cellphone vibrated in his pocket again. What else... he thought, assuming it was his parents only to pull it out and realize it was not. The number was not recognizable. Dropping his chopsticks in the bowl, he answered the call.

"Yo?"
"Hi, my name is Akira, I go to Airdalen high school... my friend Kirito Ayanami gave me your number.. This is Raiden right?? He said you tutor students, and that for a price it could remain a secret? I was wondering how much it would cost... The tutoring itself and the price to keep it hush hush..."
Oh... just tutoring, of course. He thought to himself, relieved. A part of him panicked deep down that it was another death threat from his old school. He had a lot of enemies there, especially thanks to a little someone. He could handle the bullies just fine, but it wasn't the same anymore with a cousin in tow relying on him who may come into harms way. He wasn't particularly built or skilled at fighting either. He honestly didn't recall tutoring Kirito either at the moment, but he was thankful for the recommendation. Any work opportunity was good for Raiden.
"Yeah, this is Raiden speaking. Thanks for your interest in my services. The price is flexible and depends mostly on your current grade average. What subjects are you interested in?"
After listening, he nodded along on the other end.
"I'm free tomorrow if you want a trial. It'll be free and you'll only start paying me if you feel the need for weekly or fortnightly or any tutoring lessons onward. We can also settle the price then when I've evaluated your work for myself."
Raiden intentionally didn't mention the 'hush hush' money because he was at the table in front of Mai. She seemed like an innocent girl and asking for bribes to not talk about it may be considered as exploitation to her. He didn't want to come across as that sort of person. His family just wasn't particularly well-off, but his parents were acting like they were with all that travelling for example. Another reason why Raiden does a lot of work around the clock.
"The place of study is also flexible, however I advise against studying at my place. I hope you understand that it is deemed inappropriate for me to tutor a female I've just become acquainted with in my home. What arrangement best suits you?"

Now and then Raiden's eyes would casually glance over his cousin as she ate. Tutoring and the like would mean leaving her home alone and he only hoped she wasn't as helpless as she presented herself. Then again, she did manage to make and serve dinner. At the very least, she won't starve to death...

Mai

It's a lot better than what I usually have. Thanks Mai. I appreciate it." Although his expression was one of seriousness, Mai could hear the sincerity in his voice. Just hearing him say thank you was enough to bring a smile of pride on her face. There hadn't been many times for her to smile in pride the last couple of years because of her secluded personality. But this year I have to change that. Realizing she hadn't spoken in return, Mai straightened a bit. "Ah we-well I'm glad." a rather bright smile accompanied by her words.

Going back to eating her food Mai took her time, savoring the flavor and seeing what else she could have done better. Even though she wasn't one to start a conversation or to even join in on one Mai was tempted to speak so they wouldn't eat in silence. It certainly has been a long time since they had last seen each other but things were different now and that was obvious. My.. parents, your aunt and uncle that is, may be visiting us on Sunday just to check everything is okay. Maybe only for an hour or two before heading off to France or something." Mai paused her hand holding her chopsticks halfway towards her mouth. Letting it rest back against the bowl Mai let out a small "Oh" in response to his words. "So, yeah.. may have to tidy up a bit. Not much but I hope that's okay."

The idea of her aunt and uncle stopping by made her slightly uneasy. What with her mothers agreement with the both of them Mai wondered if they'd have any news concerning her father. Looking over at Raiden she began to wonder if he knew of the reason for her being there. Her mother asked both of Raidens parents to not say a thing about it to their sun but to be honest she couldn't quite trust her uncle. Returning back to reality she answered his subtle request of permission. "It's f-fine. I-I don't mind-d cleaning." In fact she was quite used to it.

For the last year or so before she moved in with Raiden her mother had been working nonstop while her father was elsewhere. So that left the cooking and cleaning up to Mai. Originally she the amount of food she had made was enough for four people but seeing as Raiden had helped himself to a second serving it would seem only one of them would receive a lunch/dinner for tomorrow depending on when they chose to eat it.

Then the phone began to ring, more specifically Raidens cellphone. The small girl never had a phone of her own and for a brief moment she wondered what it'd be like to have one. To be able to send emails and talk to other people sounded fun. At least through email and text she wouldn't have to speak out loud to the person she was talking to. Realizing her way of thinking Mai shook her head but continued to eat. "Yo" glancing up at her cousin, Mai couldn't help but stare at him as he talked on the phone. It was so easy for him and Mai knew at one point in the past it was the same for her. Why can't I talk like that. Only in my head can I not stammer.

Hearing his conversation with whoever it was on the phone. It sounded rather interesting at least from what Raiden was saying. Mai remembered how sometimes people's volume on their phone was loud enough where when they talked on the phone anyone standing close enough could quite possibly make out the words of the caller or receiver. Bringing her thoughts back to the table she listened to his words and wondered what it was he was discussing with this person. The mention of a female piqued her interest but she knew it wasn't her place to ask.

Realizing she was staring for a bit too long she immediately looked down at her plate. Whenever Raiden looked her way she'd look away and vice versa. From a bystanders point of view it would be considered rather humorous but Mai found it a bit nerve wrecking. Mai looked up just in time to see him glance in her direction, from his expression he seemed to be thinking about something. Possibly regarding the schedule of this meeting or tutoring from what she understood. "Raiden if y-you'd like, I-I could clean th-the apart-tment while you're o-out tu-tutor-ing. That way y-ou won't ha-ave to worr-ry about it w-when yo-ou come home." Happy with herself by saying such words Mai assumed this was important to him. It was the least she could do seeing as he'd have to deal with her for the duration of school.

Thinking further on the subject Mai suddenly remembered her thoughts from when she was in the kitchen. The way she had spoken almost sounded like she was a wife telling. Her husband not to worry about the daily chores. A light blush speckled her cheeks and she averted her eyes away from Raidens gaze. "Ah I-I'm s-sor-ry if i-it seem-med like I-I was ea-eaves-drop-ing." quickly apologizing in case her words bothered him. Her usual stammer came back full force due to the embarrassment of earlier.

Cassie's smile just got brighter as Aeon took the rose she offered. She knew that it could not compare to the other expensive gifts that Aeon had received. But, her feelings of appreciation is reflected in that one stem of pink rose. He then glanced at the flowers she had brought. She laughed nervously while biting her lower lip. She was expecting a few words of reprimand about spending too much or something like that, but he simply told her that if she's ready they could go. She blinked her eyes a couple of times as it was a bit unexpected. Usually, Hotaru would scold her about getting carried away with buying things, that she should be more conscientious. A few moments of processing that Aeon was not going to reprimand her, she then nodded happily. “Yes, let's go home!”

She followed Aeon to the car where the flowers she purchased were placed inside. She would be placing the rest of the flowers around the villa as decorations. It was a little too bland and dreary for her taste. She was certain that the color provided by these flowers would cheer it up. When it was all done, she turned to look at Ryou. He had been very helpful to her and gave her useful trivia about the flowers she had bought. “Thank you for everything Ryou!” She said with a cheerful tone as she took his hand and shook it up and down, a handshake. “I really like you! So, let's be friends, okay?” She declared with great sincerity coupled with her ever jovial self. She was yet again her ever assuming self, but may be that was fine for now.

After saying her goodbyes, she entered the car and once Aeon started it, she looked out the window and waved energetically towards Ryou. “Bye bye!” She was much like a child at that moment. The Paradiso Shop was soon out of her sight as she settled herself inside the car. She released a happy sigh and inhaled the smell of the wonderful flowers at the back. That was then Aeon informed her about his little brother and father coming back to Japan tomorrow. That was good news on the part of his little brother. But, she was not sure about his father. His Papa is good friends with Aeon's father, so she believed that the renowned Akihiko Shirokami is a good and loving father. It seemed to be different since Aeon does not like his father that much.

It seemed that Aeon won't be able to accompany her to Varthur's funeral. It was fine, she understands. She will not be alone anyway since Hotaru will surely come along with her. Plus, Aeon has to be the perfect heir to the Shirokami. It is also partly why their engagement was accepted easily by their families. It won't be long now before a formal announcement is done. So, she understands if Aeon's father asked for her to visit or something along those lines. “I don't mind. Don't worry about it. This is to be expected...” She was fine tagging with Aeon, but she was not overly fond of those high-class parties. She feels a bit too restricted and it feels everything is fake, despite the glamour and all that. They stopped at a red light and those eyes of his looked at her.

She gave a soft giggle at that. Aeon was truly a worrywart even he tries to hide it with that stoic face of his. “Sir, yes, Sir.” She stated while doing a mock salute. Soon enough, she was at her villa where the servants were already coming towards them. This is where they will separate ways for now. “Say hi to Brinx for me.” She then gave Aeon a kiss on the cheek. This was a normal thing to do, isn't it? “Don't overwork yourself. Good night, Aeon.” She then exited the car at the same time her servants had taken all of her things from the car, and like that, he was gone. It made her wonder what would happen tomorrow. Hopefully, it would be good for Aeon and her, she wished as she entered the villa's proper with the servants tagging along and at the main doors, Hotaru was waiting for her. "Welcome back, Elle." She smiled brightly at this. “Yes, I'm home, Hotaru.”

"Everything is different, but there are things which will remain the same."

It does not take a genius to see that the girl (Cassiopeia) was either short on some brain cells and compensates with being happy all the time or was simply naive to a fault which would mean an early grave for her if she doesn't toughen up. His observation of the guy (Aeon) was more simple, an a**hole. He was pretty much sure that they won't hit it up, more like they'll cause friction with each other leading to possible explosions. The most logical solution to that, avoidance, it's a virtue. He finished his prospects about the two and began leading them to a myriad of flowers meticulously arranged within the shop. He could see well that Cassiopeia was very interested with the flowers. That brought out a gentle presence about him. It was different with Aeon who appeared to be more of a watchdog.

He then heard Cassiopeia's request of carnations. He went towards the colors she preferred and began picking up the best ones among the bunch. "Sure, we can do that." She must be buying these ones as a gift as she asked them to be in a basket, but he did notice a hint of sadness in her voice. If this was to be a gift shouldn't it be a bit happier? Unless... it was for someone dead or about to... He could relate to both situations very well, but he didn't point that out because he was no therapist and should not dwell on another people's business. Aeon then excused himself for a minute. He could care less as he prepared the carnations.

There was then another request, blue irises. "No problem." He stated and called a fellow employee of his to help in preparing the flowers. It went on like that with Cassiopeia picking the flowers she likes and would occasionally ask him about it. Since this is his job, he took the time getting to know the flowers they sell, along with the so-called flower language. It was helpful on a situation like this. He also honestly enjoyed conversing with the beautiful albino girl as he would describe her. She was greatly interested in the flowers and didn't have any underlying motives unlike the others. He got tired of doing small talks because of it.

Their conversation ended when Aeon returned and ask if she has chosen. She happily answered and if by his standards the Aeon guy comes off as a douche bag. To her, Aeon was like a knight in shining armor. She gave Aeon the pink rose which he had told her used mainly to show appreciation, a thank you. He let that thought go and plus, their business is done for now. He was carrying the many assorted flowers that Cassiopeia bought; even some of his co-workers were carrying some as well. They followed the two to the car as he raised an eyebrow. There was no doubt about it this couple was heavy-loaded. The car was nice by standard and was greatly expensive. Airdalen students must be very at the top-most tier in the social hierarchy.

They put the bought flowers inside the vehicle properly and when it was done. He thanked them which was normal courtesy. "Thank you for your purchase. Come back again." It was standard but, Cassiopeia's manner of saying goodbye was a bit different. She waved like a hyperactive child and declared they were friends. It was refreshing to see such personality. It reminded him that days will get better eventually. "Yeah... See ya." He muttered once the car was out of his sight. He wondered what her and that guy's reaction will be when they found out he was also attending the same school. It will be interesting to say the least, but for now, he continued with his shift.

When he was done, he went straight ahead to Mary's Grace Hospital located at another town. It took a while for him to arrive, but he still came. It would have been faster if he had his bike. The nurses, doctors, greeted him. He greets back. They were used seeing him every day. He stopped before room 304 with the name underneath it saying, Ichimura Kasane. He entered the room and saw a delicate-looking girl with her long dark brown hair spread around her like a veil sleeping still on the bed with tubes stuck on her pale white skin. The beeping of the machine which kept her alive echoed within the room. He took a seat on a chair nearby her bedside and placed some of the flowers he got on the table nearby. "Hey, I'm back sleepyhead..." And there, a small smile appeared on his face with his eyes showing affectionate longing and sadness.

"Yo?"

Akira was taken by surprise. He answered the phone so casually. It was almost like talking with Silas. She was expecting a greeting a lot different.. possibly even based off an alien movie. She decided not to judge any further though, she couldn't let her imagination get carried away. The last thing she wanted to do was insult the guy who might just save her Senior year. She awaited his answer, seeing as he seemed to go quiet for quite some time. She had to mentally talk down every temptation to start nervously ranting. She hated being in the unknown. She tapped her fingers along the gate as she walked home. Walking made the wait a little easier. She kind of felt normal for once.. Almost the first time since the year started. She was making study plans like a normal teenager. It felt good doing something with no Devone in sight.

"Yeah, this is Raiden speaking. Thanks for your interest in my services. The price is flexible and depends mostly on your current grade average. What subjects are you interested in?"

There was the formality expected. Apparently Kirito wasn't lying. She smiled a bit, deciding she'd have to thank that knucklehead next time she saw him. Though the more she thought about money, the more it depressed her. How was she going to balance paying Raiden and paying for rent? Her grandmother refused to do any physical labor.. Though at least her Cafe` job was understanding.. They let her miss when she needed.. it just.. was going to be a tiresome school year. She needed the grades if she dreamed of going to college.. She could never afford it on her own. Guessing on her Airdalen entrance exams was the best thing that ever happened to her. She made it in through a scholarship.. but barely. Having the school on her record was going to be a make or break for her.

"I'm free tomorrow if you want a trial. It'll be free and you'll only start paying me if you feel the need for weekly or fortnightly or any tutoring lessons onward. We can also settle the price then when I've evaluated your work for myself."

"Free?" Her head tilted in surprise. What was up with this guy? Who gave out free trial study sessions? She shook it off though. She wasn't going to complain about free help. Her voice was a bit more enthusiastic knowing he agreed to tutor her, "Sounds great.I'm good for tomorrow as well." She added. Though she wrote down on a piece of paper so she wouldn't forget. She'd have to do her chores and cook for her grandmother before she left... she'd be waking up much earlier than their plans required.

"The place of study is also flexible, however I advise against studying at my place. I hope you understand that it is deemed inappropriate for me to tutor a female I've just become acquainted with in my home. What arrangement best suits you?"

It was the next part that really took Akira by surprise, "Uhm.. I was thinking the Library or somewhere more public anyway... My house wouldn't be suitable either. My Grandmother is always home, but she'd just never let us get any work done. See you at the library...Tomorrow at 12:30?" It was the ideal time for her, she could have just made lunch for her grandmother and already finished her chores.

She hadn't noticed, but she was already home. She opened the door, waving to her Grandmother. The old woman's brow perked up with interest and a smug grin crossed her features, "Is that good news, Aki-chan?" the woman asked. Her tone was hoarse, but the woman was a lot stronger than she led on. Akira's eyes shifted to her grandmother, and she put a finger up to her lips, begging her to shut up for a minute. With that she turned her back on the woman, speeding up the call.

"I... have to go. If you would rather a different time, or something comes up.. just text this number. It's mine. Thanks, Raiden. Have a nice evening. Bye." And with that she hung up. Though the next thing she knew her grandmother was hovering over her shoulder, listening in the entire time since she'd stopped watching.

"Baa-chan!" Akira snapped, scrambling away from her, "That's so rude!" she added in a pout. The woman chuckled, returning to her seat, reading the newspaper as if she'd never invaded Akira's privacy at all.

"Who's Raiden?" The woman asked, a mischievous grin on her face as she pried for information. Akira gathered food, starting dinner, ignoring her questions. Baa-chan.. You're the main reason guys make me so nervous.. She gathered the materials she needed, seeing as she was tired. She decided to make Ramen and be done with it.

"Does he have money? That's where your father messed up. Your mother sucked him dry. He died poor." The next question flew, and Akira's knife slipped as she was cutting the vegetables. She gripped the counter, trying to calm herself down. Money isn't everything.. Baa-chan.. She returned to chopping, trying to keep her mind off of her parents. Her Grandmother... she hated her. They weren't actually blood related, seeing as she was her Step-father's mother.. but she was the only family Akira had left.. Her real dad abandoned her mom shortly after the pregnancy..

"If you want your food to taste right, please stop talking, Baa-chan.. Raiden is just a tutor." Akira begged, and thankfully the old woman complied. Apparently she was content with Akira's reply. She didn't even ask if she got hurt at school.. Once the food was done, Akira tucked herself in early after a shower and changing clothes. She didn't even want dinner anymore. She collapsed on the bed, clinging to a pillow with a depressed sigh. So tired.. It didn't take long before she was completely out.

"Raiden if y-you'd like, I-I could clean th-the apart-tment while you're o-out tu-tutor-ing. That way y-ou won't ha-ave to worr-ry about it w-when yo-ou come home." Raiden still clutching his cellphone against his ear to listen to his client, grew a little worried when Mai offered to clean up by herself while he was away. He couldn't help but picture all the high furnishings in his place that his cousin may reach for that could cause an accident. If Mai was her old self, he probably wouldn't worry so much but since they got to see each other again and hang out. Everything was just, different. He expected different since they were older and more mature now, but not this different with Mai barely able to speak a sentence without stuttering or fumbling over her words. Maybe it was just his imagination or her personality, but she seemed a lot weaker and smaller too than he remembered. It greatly saddened him but he wasn't the type to voice emotions. Just what exactly changed over the years?

"Free?""Sounds great. I'm good for tomorrow as well." It looked like Raiden had his plans for tomorrow finalized and his client was pretty pleased by the 'free' offer. Most people were. Raiden didn't see a free session offer as a downside. Sure, he wouldn't earn anything from the few hours spent studying but he didn't dislike studying either. Plus, it gave him some time to become familiar with his prospect client. Not all clients were worth the effort and money. It also meant nobody would complain on the first session offered as it was, free. People had a tendency to complain when their expectations were high but their received service wasn't meeting the standards. What they failed to realize was that learning takes time, not a single session before it kicks in effect.
"Uhm.. I was thinking the Library or somewhere more public anyway... My house wouldn't be suitable either. My Grandmother is always home, but she'd just never let us get any work done. See you at the library...Tomorrow at 12:30?" Raiden was personally glad she didn't suggest her home either. Most grandmothers he had met were awkward ones, always trying to feed him too thinking he didn't eat enough. When really, he was just uncomfortable eating big meals anywhere besides home. "12:30 is fine." he replied, but started to wonder how long this session would take for Mai's sake. Before he could worry further, he overheard an old lady's voice from the other end of the phone and it made him crack a smile to just know this girl was an honest one at the very least. "I... have to go. If you would rather a different time, or something comes up.. just text this number. It's mine. Thanks, Raiden. Have a nice evening. Bye."And.. she hung up before I could say the same. Well, granny calls.

"Ah I-I'm s-sor-ry if i-it seem-med like I-I was ea-eaves-drop-ing." Raiden put down the phone as his attention returned to his cousin. "We're living together so there's nothing wrong with you being familiar with my schedule." he replied with a gentle voice, his eyes narrowed only further displaying concern as he pocketed his phone. "So, yeah. I'll be out tutoring someone at 12:30 in the local library... it's my job sometimes." he confirmed what his cousin had heard before gathering the used dishes and piling them on top of each other. "I'll put these away and you can go up to your room. Goodnight, Mai." He excused himself from the table and placed the dishes in the sink, starting to clean them one by one. If he was living alone, he always just left the dishes piled by the sink for a while but he decided to clean them this time because if he didn't, Mai would.

When he was done, it only occurred to him that the girl he would be tutoring named Akira; was a student from his new school. I hope this doesn't fall to shit... he thought to himself, as it reminded him of Arietta. He hadn't met up with a girl since her. Mai was an exception as his cousin, Cassiopeia was okay since they were all in a group but just him and this girl, Akira... He just hadn't hung out alone with a girl in a while. He headed up to his room and closed the door behind him, returning to his desktop to find Lumi had responded:
'I only have 12.. but that means less work for me wahaha (x. I just missed you by 4 minutes too, o wow ><;; Let me know when you come back online so we can like level up and stuff.'
Raiden smirked cockily, something he didn't do often and typed: 'I'm on now. Sorry, just had dinner. Let's play... and try to keep up. Noob.'

Mai

It seemed her words may have worried her cousin. Mai continued to watch Raiden with thoughtful eyes. Before long the phone call was completed just as she had apologized. Raiden’s next actions made Mai a bit nervous as he still hadn’t said anything about her cleaning the apartment while he was tutoring. Although the smile from earlier dissuaded her from thinking Raiden was upset she couldn’t help but be nervous.

"We're living together so there's nothing wrong with you being familiar with my schedule." His voice was gentle so Mai relaxed if just a bit. “Alright.” giving a single word of acknowledgement. Now that they had finished their dinner Mai paused from getting up as Raiden continued. "So, yeah. I'll be out tutoring someone at 12:30 in the local library... it's my job sometimes." Now that he made it clear of what he was doing Mai didn’t quite feel as bad about listening in, even if he thought there was nothing wrong with it. Getting ready to gather the dishes Raiden beat her to it. "I'll put these away and you can go up to your room. Goodnight, Mai."

A bit surprised by his words, she wondered if they’d ever be able to have long conversations like they did when they were little. “Ah y-yes thank y-ou Raiden and go-goodnight.” smiling a bit Mai put the apron back in the kitchen before going off to her room. Closing the door behind her Mai leaned against the door for a little bit, her small hands clasped behind her back as they were pressed against the door and her back. Rubbing her eyes Mai was surprised to find that they were wet. Blinking a few times Mai quickly went to the mirror by her dresser and saw that there were tears trickling down her cheeks. They weren’t the kind that was caused from great pain but rather from frustration.

Sniffling a few times she patted her cheeks and gathered her things before heading to the bathroom. From the looks of things Raiden was in his room since it was closed, so she quickly went to take a shower. She wasn’t in there for very long and was out just as soon as she came in. Wearing nothing but an over-sized t-shirt that had a bunch of animals as the design, Mai carried her shower things and slipped back into her room. Putting them away Mai stood in front of the mirror again and frowned at her reflection. Combing her hair with her fingers she was happy she had cut it but she’d have to get a proper haircut soon. Bright orange eyes then looked to the rest of her body. Pinching the cloth that hung from her body it did not contour to her body as it would to a girl with a body more their age and for a moment Mai felt ashamed for having such a scrawny body. Realizing her thoughts Mai bite her lip and then her finger, “I-I’m not l-like Aunty.”

Her aunt had quite the desirable body but Mai knew she had once envied it when she was smaller. Not that she had grown much since her younger years with Raiden. Mai now saw the truth that came with having that sort of body. At least I won’t be bothered. Finally turning away from the mirror Mai slipped into her bed and stared up at the ceiling. Turning to her side she stared at the wall that she shared with Raiden. Reaching out to touch it Mai thought of maybe knocking on the hollow divider but thought against it. He could be sleeping. If her memory served her right they used to knock on the wall whenever they slept in separate rooms. Releasing a tired sigh Mai turned her back to the wall and closed her eyes, letting sleep take her away from this dreaded reality.

The sunlight glinted off of the hood of the white Lexus full-size sedan as Caleb approached the driver’s side. He turned on the hidden microphone in his suit jacket before he spoke. "Alpha 1 to Bravo team. We’ll be departing shortly.” moments later, a reply trickled out of the receiver in Caleb’s ear. "Copy that Alpha 1, we’ll be right on your tail.” As soon as he opened the door, a burst of steaming air hit him like a tidal wave. The bodyguard reached inside and turned the AC to full blast before opening all of the doors and windows of the car. By the time Daniel and the others arrived, the sedan was already at a manageable temperature.

"My apologies for the rather...humble car. Fortunately, I’ll be upgrading once we are better settled in.” With that the boy climbed into the back seat along with Bishop, leaving the front seat for the girl (Keiko). Bishop had suggested earlier a rather expensive restaurant not far from the school. So the five were off in no time, with a black SUV trailing behind.

After a few minutes, while pulling into the restaurant's parking lot, the Lexus’ rather striking figure on the road looked quite modest indeed amidst many similar and higher class cars. The group piled out and Caleb was allowed a moment to walk out of ears reach of his companions. "Alpha team, this is Alpha 1. We have arrived at our destination.” The piece in his ear delivered a reply.

"Copy, the area’s clear.” The bodyguard beckoned the teens into the building, but as the group was being led to their seats, Daniel spotted a face he seemed to recognize (Devone). "Devone Kim, that was her name!” He had heard quite a bit about her at school, mostly from conversations in the hallway. Quite the hot topic. She was sitting with another girl (Arietta), and the two were engaged in conversation. "It might be a good idea to become associated with the two…” the young aristocrat thought. "After all, getting to know Devone could really give me a boost up that social ladder.”

Daniel moved towards the two ladies. "Devone Kim I presume?” he extended his hand. "Daniel Trist, a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” Daniel said with a smile.

Keiko had to sit in the front seat of the car next to Daniel's driver with a pouty face. She wanted to sit with her classmates but didn't want to be rude so she sat where she was directed to sit. Sometimes she would look at the driver and try to picture him as food just to cheer herself up. It wasn't working but it made her giggle to herself a few times that she was even trying to do such a silly thing. The drive was really short as they arrived at a fancy looking restaurant that tempted Keiko to run out of the car and jump into paradise. Luckily, she held herself back and clung to Bishop instead with tightly sealed lips in order to stop herself from drooling before she had even had a look at the glorious food. Keiko could smell the meals already from the outside though and was sure that she would like it here. She clung to Bishop more when they got inside the restaurant as it proved to be as fancy as she anticipated from the exterior. It made her really nervous to be at a wealthy establishment. Keiko herself was only middle-class and worked at a bakery. A part of her felt that she didn't belong her but being with other people that she knew; Bishop and Daniel helped her feel more at ease. She wasn't here for the people, but for the food! And the food was going to be more than worth it.

After she and Bishop were lead to their seats, she noticed that Daniel was missing or at least she couldn't see him anymore. After stretching her neck and turning her head in every direction she could think of, she spotted him at a different table talking to two women. Keiko recognized the one with black hair from her school (Devone) as she had seen her before by the school gates but they had never talked. "Keiko wonders if Daniel is going to eat with them instead of us." She rested her chin on the table and oogled the menu unsure of how much she should order. Keiko was definitely unable to afford it and she did not want to be too much of a hassle by ordering more than she was supposed to. "Uh.. ah... hmm" She fiddled with the menu, turning it anti clockwise, upside down, diagonal as if reading it in all directions made a difference to how appetizing the meal sounded. "Something with a lot of calories... " she mumbled to herself.

"I'm sorry to hear that. I've never been stolen from so I can't relate personally but it must have been dreadful. Especially as an.. invaluable item you say? Maybe a family heirloom? That's awful. I'm glad the thief responsible is paying his dues. Well done on turning him in."

Arietta's eyes softened a bit as she took another sip of her drink. She's nice enough.. Arietta thought with an optimistic attitude... of course her definition of nice probably was warped compared to certain Airdalen students. She nodded at Devone's guess as to what the item was.

"It was a custom made piece of jewelry.." She explained, "It was gift from my father to my mother. A butterfly hair clip made from sapphires." Arietta used her hands to show the size of the accessory, though she wasn't sure just how interested Devone was in her story. She decided to keep everything short and sweet, "It was a bit heavy, but it was all I had of my parent's. They both died a long time ago."

"After all, we don't need trash like that in our society. The less of them the better."

Arietta chuckled a bit, closing her eyes. He isn't.. Then she opened them, twirling her finger along her glass absentmindedly, "But of course. Thieves are the worst kind of bottom feeder. I'm glad that we see eye to eye on that." She mused. There you go again.. She thought to herself. Though she didn't feel too horrible. It wasn't like she'd given any names. Besides, it seemed Devone and her were hitting it off once she told the story about her transfer.

She was about to order herself something to eat, but her thoughts were interrupted as a young man (Daniel) approached them. He left a table with another blonde (Bishop) and a rather pretty brunette (Keiko) who seemed to be working on their own order. The boy that approached held a different air about him than the other two, he was from the hierarchy while the other two seemed to be somewhere toward the middle of the financial ladder. She picked up her glass, blue eyes scanning the blonde as he spoke to Devone, sizing him up. Just who are you..? Arietta's eyes never left him once, not until he was done speaking.

"Devone Kim I presume? Daniel Trist, a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

She smiled a bit, looking over to Devone, "My, you're quite the celebrity." She giggled, then looked to Daniel. Do we have the same intentions? Or are you only after her status? The blonde knew she was 'using' Devone to improve her own popularity. Though even after Arietta gained her own recognition, she wouldn't drop Devone like a hot potato. She actually was enjoying herself once she got past her nerves. She was also looking for friendship. Is it really horrible to want your friends to also have usefulness? Her eyes flipped back to Daniel as she thought of it. Would you make a useful friend as well?

Devone routinely nodded along with Arietta's description of her stolen item but it was only when she spoke the word, 'mother' that Devone really started paying proper attention. "It was a gift from my father to my mother. A butterfly hair clip made from sapphires." She wore a mirthless smile as her acquaintance's hands parted from each other to describe the size. The conversation was making Devone reminisce her own mother. Unlike Arietta, it hadn't occurred to her to possess anything of sentimental value. That kind of show of affection wasn't practiced in her family."It was a bit heavy, but it was all I had of my parent's. They both died a long time ago."A part of Devone wanted to divulge her own mother's passing, but she thought against it. She had only just met this girl and doing so wouldn't necessarily be a risk worth taking. It would allow her to show that she could relate to her, but that was all it was. Relating to someone on a personal level in the business world wasn't enough. It always required more. Instead all she said was, "I understand. I hope it is located soon. I, for one will keep my eye out for it." accompanied by a reassuring, warm smile that she didn't do often.

After her harshness regarding the thief, that was when Devone's 'truer self' if one could call it that became active again. "But of course. Thieves are the worst kind of bottom feeder. I'm glad that we see eye to eye on that." So, the girl agrees and plays along. Devone was a little suspicious. Not because of anything Arietta did in particular, just because she didn't expect someone to be as open as she was about things like that. Unless of course, the girl was equally as egotistical and stable in her ventures. Then again, there was always a chance the blonde was just agreeing to get along and gain something out of it rather than actual, proper, valid agreement to what Devone was saying. Maybe she was just going to agree to anything Devone said? She personally hoped that wasn't the case. It wouldn't be interesting...

"Devone Kim I presume? Daniel Trist, a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” Devone turned her attention away from Arietta for a moment to see who had addressed her. It was another blonde, but a male one. Definitely a mixed breed but she could never be sure what corner of the earth he came from. It wasn't that obvious. It felt like his accent was a bit of everything. As surprised as she was to be approached by someone the second time tonight, she didn't show it and proceeded with the formalities. Accepting his outstretched hand, she shook it. "Charmed." She replied with a well rehearsed polite smile for just the occasion. She didn't recognize him personally but the surname 'Trist' rung a bell and he was dressed and well-mannered for the part of her high class world. She had a feeling he may be positioned even higher in power than that. A good thing as fate would have it that Atsushi had not returned for her yet. It definitely wasn't part of the plan for her to be mingling with people but it was something worth doing in general. Connections are always good, even the small ones. Some of them are clever enough to rise above you in time and when they do, they will still remember you. In essence, you stay on your toes and higher. It was even more surprising that her dad's lecturing words entered her mind. It was an extremely rare occurrence for her, especially now that she had lost most if not all respect for him.
"My, you're quite the celebrity." Her female acquaintance giggled to which Devone responded with a restricted feminine chuckle to feign modesty or shyness. "Ahah... just for tonight. I swear it isn't always like this for me."

She returned her attention back to Daniel and gestured over at her acquaintance across the table. "Daniel, please meet a friend of mine. This is Hakushiro, Arietta." She introduced before returning both her hands to their rightful position on her lap of crossed legs. It feels like a social party and I'm a bit rusty... my cheeks might ache after all these pleasantries. Despite her inner whining, they were kept under lock and key in the depths of her thoughts not to be seen on the outside. "Care to enlighten us Daniel, are you a visitor to Japan?" she queried, having to go back to initiating the small talk before anything else. Her eyes casually drifted behind him to notice familiar faces; Bishop undeniably and another girl (Keiko) she had recalled more from seeing her in the man-eating nightmare that haunted her in the bathroom but it didn't phase her. What phased her was... what are those two doing here? She managed to keep her confusion hidden under the cool, calm and collected guise.

"My, you're quite the celebrity." the blonde girl(Arietta) said with a smile.

"Ahah... just for tonight. I swear it isn't always like this for me." Devone replied. "Daniel, please meet a friend of mine. This is Hakushiro, Arietta." she said turning to him.

"Oh, hello Miss. Pleased to meet you." the boy gave a slight bow of the head. "Girl seems nice enough..." Daniel thought. "Looks smart however, calculative. Devone on the other hand...she screams BUSINESS."

"Care to enlighten us Daniel, are you a visitor to Japan?" Daniel sort of cocked his head to this. His Japanese wasn't as developed as he wished, and to his embarrassment, the blonde didn't entirely understand the question.

"Um..." the junior said, lowering his voice. "Come again?" Daniel could feel himself panic a bit. "What do i do? It's not like hearing the question again is going to let me understand it!" Luckily for him, Caleb butted in just in time.

"She was asking what you're doing here." the man said in English. Switching to Japanese, he turned towards the two girls. "Mr. Trist doesn't understand Japanese too well at the moment. It would be a big help in communication if one of you knew English." turning back to Daniel, the bodyguard gave a closing statement in English. "I'll leave you three to yourselves now." With that, Caleb went ahead on his way to sit with the other two kids.

"Alpha 1? This is Bravo team, requesting whereabouts and status of Overlord. Over. Caleb's receiver chimed.
"Whereabouts, 1 o-clock me. About 3 yards away. Status, engaged in conversation with 2 girls, about the same age. One blonde Caucasian, and an Asian."
"Spotted" Just then, another voice blessed his ear.
"This is Alpha team reporting potential danger. Asian female identified as Devone Kim is almost always seen with her personal bodyguard, Atsushi Mahiro. However, his whereabouts are unaccounted for at the moment."
"Keep your eyes peeled boys. Stay on your toes." Caleb glued his eyes on Devone, the name Kim rang a bell. But he couldn't quite grasp it.

After Caleb left the premises, Daniel turned back to the two girls. Forming the answer to Devone's question slowly and with pauses, he said. "Ah...well, I guess you could say I'm visiting. But I'm staying for a while...I think." He didn't want to reveal to much information just yet. After all, he barely knew the two.

"Time to return..."

It was an early day for Aeon as he looked at the ever familiar main gate of the Shirokami Estate. The gate boasted the traditional architecture of Japan as he approached the installed intercom which also held a small screen. He pushed a button which alarmed anyone in-charge of the gates of his presence. An image of a man showed on the screen and greeted him. "Welcome back Master Aeon." He simply gave a curt nod as he was allowed passage. Truthfully, he did not like to come here. Inside, his path was lined by servants dressed in kimonos bowing in his presence. He ignored them as he walked on and came to view the mansion estate which held its design since ancient times. It was one of the historic relics considered by Japan. The entire property stretches up to the mountains. It is already considered a size of a village.

“Oniisama! Oniisama! Oniisama!” Aeon focused his attention to the sounds of pattering footsteps. There were still a few meters to the main doors when he felt someone embracing him around his waist. “Welcome back, Oniisama!” This was all done by his little brother, Brinx. He lowered himself to be at a level with him. His hand gently placed on his brother's head. “I should be the one saying that. Welcome back, Brinx.” He noted with a small smile which can only be seen by Brinx. The little boy beamed ever so brightly and now embraced his older brother by the neck. Aeon did not reject the action and instead returned the hug and even lifted the boy into his arms. “How was your trip?” He asked as a means of small talk. His brother is the exception.

Brinx began to speak of his experiences overseas with his mother and sister. Aeon listened attentively as he entered the main house with the boy seated securely on his arms. The warm scenery was only disturbed with a welcome, he finds too exaggerated. “Aeon-sama! Oh! Aeon-sama, how I have missed you! It was t--” It was none other than his butler, Andrew who was rushing towards him in an effort of an embrace. However, he was ruthless and did not favor such gestures from his butler. So, Andrew met the heel of Aeon's shoes firmly implanted on his face completely stopping him from his tracks and impeding his words. “Oniisama, can I do that too?” Aeon looked at his brother and answered with a serious glint. “You have complete permission." After stating that, he gave his feet a good push making Andrew fall on his backside.

Andrew rubbed the tip of his nose as he sported a wonderful imprint of Aeon's slippers. After all, it is customary to remove one's shoes and used house slippers instead. It was a good thing his nose didn't break from that impact. He was about to say something about his Master's permission but was interceded by the familiar voice of his father. "Andrew stand on your feet. It is disgraceful to be in such a position in front of your Master." Andrew immediately was on his feet and bowed in humble apology. “I apologize for such a presentation, Aeon-sama, Brinx-sama." Aeon had now his firm mask of stone in place at the appearance of his Father's butler, Richter. “Brinx, why don't you prepare those cards you collected. I'll go and take a look later." He stated softly as he lowered his brother to the floor who nodded happily. “Okay!" He then went on his merry way.

“Andrew entertain Brinx for a while." Andrew looked at Aeon with those mismatched eyes for a moment before giving a bow of acknowledgment. “As you wish, Aeon-sama." Soon enough, the only ones left in the corridor was him and Richter. "I beg your pardon for my son's inadequacies. I would replace him. I have enough of his blunders." Aeon answered him in a curt yet clear manner. “He is my butler." Richter had his widened a bit before bowing slowly. "I understand, please forgive my intrusions." Aeon closed his eyes briefly before walking passed Richter. “Take me to my Father." Richter nodded in understanding as the young Master Aeon is here by the summons of the Master Akihiko. "Right away."

Aeon now found himself in the ever-familiar study of his Father. He had just read in the papers that his Father was now crowned at the top as being the most influential and richest person in the world. “Aeon." A simple greeting which he reciprocated in the same manner. “Father." Akihiko gazed at him with those similar violet eyes behind his desk. It is no wonder why Aeon was beautiful. This was carried by genes as his Father was also a face considered extremely handsome. “I will not waste our time. Your engagement to Cassiopeia will be formally announced next week." Aeon had expected as much. There was no better time as he would say. “I will not allow you to break this off. Do you understand?" Akihiko stated with such firm authority and those held great intent of not being questioned. “...Yes."

Mai

Mai woke early the next day as she did always at exactly 7:30 in the morning. Rolling around in her bed she stared at her ceiling before slipping out of bed. Rubbing her tired eyes she glanced at herself as she passed the mirror and was shocked at how terrible her bedhead was. Walking back to face the mirror directly she grumbled a bit at her hair, combing through it with her fingers in hopes of it going back to normal. Sighing Mai went to the bathroom to wash up then went back to her room to get dressed.

Opening the door quietly she wore a simple graphic tee that, like with most of her clothing, was a bit too large length wise. She wore dark stockings that disappeared under the edge of her shirt while her shorts were nearly hidden. Pulling at the shirt Mai quickly went to the kitchen to get breakfast ready for both her and Raiden. Finished up breakfast at around 8:40, she noticed they would have to restock on food if Raiden’s parents were coming over. I wonder what sort of dinner I can make for them? biting at her lip Mai set the table before knocking on Raiden’s door lightly. “Ah breakfast i-is do-one.” she said quietly. Turning away she quickly sat down to eat but waited in case Raiden decided to join.

In truth she still wasn’t used to the sleeping schedule at his home. The place certainly has become her home but at times it felt foreign to her. Eating her breakfast Mai placed her dishes in the sink and washed them. Stepping out into the hallway Mai pondered what she should do first in terms of cleaning. I should go to the store first. Who knows how long that’ll take me and I don’t want Raiden to rush home to help me shop. Nibbling on her finger Mai glanced at Raiden’s door then at the clock. It was a little past nine now so the shops should be open now. Shrugging Mai went back to her room to tidy it up before leaving. Heading to the door Mai stepped out before stepping back in shivering slightly. I’ll need a jacket and maybe a hat.

Frowning ever so slightly Mai went back to her room for what felt like the umpteenth time to grab a jacket. Even this was slightly too big but it was quite comfortable and it kept her pretty warm. Smiling a bit Mai checked to see how much money she had on her person and what exactly she’d need in terms of food. I shouldn’t get to much. Tugging her jacket closer to her body she didn’t bother trying to zip it up all the way. Going into the hallway she made sure to leave a note for Raiden in case he wasn’t sure where she had gone. Finally stepping out of the apartment Mai wondered just where exactly she needed to go to reach the market.

Biting her lip as she always did when nervous she thought of asking Raiden but she shook her head. I need to stop relying on him. Swallowing a lump in her throat the small girl walked in the direction she assumed would take her to the market. She had walked through the neighborhood a couple of times since she got her but it was still easy for her to get lost. However Mai thought she’d know the ways by now so she didn’t try to force herself to ask for directions.

30 minutes later

And lost she did get. Nibbling her finger Mai walked around like a lost child. The poor girl was on the verge of tears but the way she was going felt familiar. Looking around there were a few shops around but none of them were the ones she was looking for. With it being the weekend as well as the time in which most people head outside there were streams of people walking this way and that. Mai glanced about in search of some familiar landmark. Due to her small stature many of the people around her didn’t notice Mai being there and the small girl had to do her best to get out of their way.

“Wah.” backing away closer to the stores she bumped into something soft yet firm. Quickly turning around to face it she realized she had nearly crushed flowers. Looking up she noticed she stood before a flower shop by the name of Paradiso. The sight and smell of the flowers outside helped to calm her down but suddenly she bumped into again when a group of giggling girls rushed inside. “Ah w-what?” doing her best to hold back tears of frustration Mai got closer to the doors to the shop and saw that the girls were swarming around a certain area but they moved as whatever had their attention moved.

Even though Mai was never one to go near crowds she was curious as to what had their attention. Just as she was about to enter the flower shop a different group of girls left the shop nearly hitting her with the door. Jumping back quickly Mai tripped over her feet and fell on her bum. It didn’t hurt much but she felt like she was sitting on something so she carefully stood back up and saw that she had hit a small bundle of flowers when she jumped back and sat on them. “Ah wah.” she could barely voice her guilt in words. Her head was swimming with so many thoughts many of them centering around how the shop would react to her messing up their flowers and the fact that she was lost made her feel even worse. I wish Raiden was here. I just need directions to the market. It was quite obvious from the way Mai was flittering about that something was worrying her.

Day before

Kaoru had went home after his run-in with Arietta and Jonathan. To his dismay, Kyoko had beaten him there. He tried to sneak past the brunette sitting on the living room couch and start his chores undetected, but to no avail. He was hoping she hadn't notice that they were incomplete, but Kyoko stood, frowning at the blue haired boy. She instantly approached, arms crossed and definitely angry with him.

"Kaoru.." She began, his eyes instantly shutting, awaiting his scolding. He was used to getting yelled at, Kyoko was like the mom he never had, considering his died when he was still a baby..

"Kyoko.. I can explain, I got held up at school.. I'll do my chores now.." He raised his hands, keeping his eyes held shut. Worst case scenario she'd smack him upside the head for being irresponsible. He could handle it, but the look on her face was always scarier than the actual hit. He'd rather not see it coming.

"Idiot! I'm not mad about that... I heard what happened at the school.. I've been calling you all day!" She snapped, pulling Kaoru into a tight hug, "Don't ever worry me like that again.. You stupid kid.." He could barely breathe in the older girl's embrace, and he winced a bit. He'd been taken completely by surprise.. She wasn't even worried about the dishes and the laundry... She was worried about me? He smiled a bit as he returned the embrace, eventually prying himself from the college student's grasp.

"I'm sorry Kyo.. I wasn't hurt so I didn't think.. Gomen ne.." He apologized. He got straight to his chores as Kyoko cooked dinner. The two of them joked and played around, but Kaoru was still a little off..

"What's wrong Kao-chan?" She asked, eyes blinking with curiousity. She grabbed his chin forcefully, making sure he couldn't avoid her question, "Did something happen that you're not telling me about?" She asked with a pout on her face, prepared to keep this conversation going all night if he didn't give her the answers she was seeking.

"A friend of mine died in the accident.. He had a severe allergy..." Kaoru mumbled, tugging his face from her grasp, "He was the only friend I had made at the time.. I mean.. I've got another guy I hang out with.. I just knew Var since the beach trip started.."

She went over and brushed his hair, "Well.. things like this happen... Just go show his family your respect. I bet he'd like that.. ne?" She smiled to him, "I'll give you some money to go buy something nice for the funeral." They spent the rest of the night watching movies until Kaoru passed out on the couch. Kyoko waited until then to turn off the TV, smiling at the sleeping boy. She left momentarily to grab him a blanket and tucked him in careful to not disturb his sleep, "Goodnight, Kao-chan.."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Present Day

Kaoru woke up bright and early, rubbing his eyes as the sun poured into the living room. He sat up stretching, a couple bones popping as he yawned. Couches definitely aren't good for the back.. He thought as he rose, folding the blanket Kyoko grabbed him. He could smell breakfast, and he stepped into the kitchen, "Ohayo, Kyo-chan.. I'm going to go shower.." he mumbled, barely even coherent. He trudged to his room, opening the door and grabbing a change of clothes before shuffling to the bathroom. He tossed his spare clothes on the sink and turned the shower on. Varthur's funeral is today... I better go rent a suit and get the family something..

Once he got out, Kaoru entered the kitchen again, shaking his hair off before sitting down. It earned him a frown from Kyoko, but she let it slide, "What are you going to do after you pay your respects to the family?" She asked him as she ate, taking a sip from her coffee as she awaited the boy's answer. Kaoru blinked a bit, pouring his own cup before answering her.

"I was thinking about hanging out with a few kids from school.." He didn't want to mention that two of the 'kids from school' were female, because Kyoko would nag him the rest of the morning about it. He'd never get to live it down. Sometimes he wondered if this is truly how mother's treated their children or if Kyoko was just psychotic and obsessed. He hoped it was normal, he didn't want to think about Kyoko holding a knife while smiling creepily down at him as he slept. He almost choked on his toast as the mental image popped into his head.

To shake the disturbing thought, Kaoru brought out his phone, logging into Facebook. He then looked up Momo, and after a little digging, added her. Then, he instantly proceeded in sending her a message, "Hey, Momo.. I gave Sera my number and asked if you guys wanted to hang out with me and Jonathan at the Arcade. Another girl might be coming, so it's just a bunch of us hanging out.. Are you coming? :D - Kaoru"

A ginger girl stood in front of the school, her blue eyes wide and curious. I can't believe I had to transfer... she thought to herself quietly. It wasn't easy for her to move around so often. The moment she made friends, it was goodbye and off to another school. She was glad her father had set them up in a new apartment. "Them" being her twin siblings and herself. She blinked, realizing she most likely looked like an idiot standing in front of the school like that.

With a slight, almost unnoticeable skip in her step, Usagi Akimori made her way to her first day at Airdalen High. She looked around with interest, resembling an owl in some ways. Her fingers tap, tap, tapped against her leg as she tightened her grip on her bag. Some of the teachers preparing for school looked at her, but most barely acknowledged her presence. She stepped in the office, immediately gaining the attention of the lady at the desk. "What are you doing here on a Sat- Oh, you must be the newbie. You're here to get your schedule and stuff for Monday, right?" she tapped a button on her computer. "It'll take a few minutes to print. Is there anything else...? Let's see... I assume you heard about our Junior/Senior program?"

"In passing..." Usagi answered quietly.

"Well, you've been assigned to a girl named Momo Yakamoto. Um, wait here while I get your stuff and then you're free to go."

Usagi nodded and sat down on one of the office's waiting chairs. She tilted her head back and forth, letting her orange pigtails spill over her shoulders. Without much of a rhythm, she swung her legs back and forth and hummed a tune. In her pocket, her phone buzzed. She withdrew the latest model, holding it in her palm. How's school so far?

It was her brother. She almost thought of not answering it, but decided that this was a moment when she needed to talk to him to calm her nerves. She tapped one finger against the back of the phone. I'm nervous for Monday... she answered truthfully.

As she flipped through an old magazine, he replied. It'll get better.

"I hope so..." Usagi muttered to herself.

"And who might you be?"

Another normal day for Ryou. He clocked in for his shift at Paradiso and as to be expected. It was bustling with activity which was mostly those incessant noisy females. There were a lot more than the average which he could link to the appearance of those two schoolmates (Cassiopeia & Aeon) of his. They might be expecting them to show up here again. He really didn't care either way. He just really want to do his work in peace, but that was obviously impossible. His only means of accomplishing anything was to ignore them as always, and so he did. He busied himself with the watering, preparing, restocking, and any tidbits needed to be done. He also did the work that could be left tomorrow, since he would be taking day off to accompany his brother for his class trip.

Speaking of that, it made him remember the little scenario back at the house earlier. Aunt Margarette was wallowing in self-pity and regret of not being able to come with Hikaru for the trip. She repeatedly said that she wanted to see the fishes so much. She also apologizes consecutively to him and he without end always tell her that it was fine. It was not an obligation or a bother, if he can do anything for Hikaru then he would do so. The discussion only ended when Uncle Takahiro intervened and distracted his wife with another topic like the business trip they were going to tomorrow. He was also reminded by his Uncle to watch over the house and his female cousins which he assured the older male, he will do.

That all happened during breakfast and when finished, they went on their own activities for the day. His Aunt went to do some grocery shopping with Hikaru and Trixie. His Uncle was meeting up with a client which would probably take all day once more. Reisha has training for her gymnastics club since they were going to enter the inter-high competition. Him? He was going to work and dropped Reisha off to her training camp. That girl seemed to prefer him chaperoning her if it would be possible. He doesn't see anything bad about that, she is his family and it was along the way anyway, so there was no hassle. But, he could not say the same thing about crowd around the store.

"I almost don't envy you, Ryou." A fellow co-worker whispered to him. He scoffed at this commentary. It was already tiring everyday to handle this kind of situation. Normally, he should just get used to it, but he just didn't like it at all. These girls circling around him as if he was a free meat to all. If it would be okay to manhandle them he would have, but that was just wrong in many ways. "You can have them." He gestured to his fellow worker who gave a small laugh and a shook of head. His attention was then taken by a sound of something falling down. His eyes narrowed dangerously. It was probably because of these girls' ruckus. "If you're going to destroy this store, leave." His tone cold and hard as he glared at the girls who instantly stilled their movements.

He released a frustrated sigh and went towards the source of the sound. There he found some of the flowers were crushed and the cause was apparently a very small girl (Mai). She was unnoticeable if it were not for her white hair which reminded him of Cassiopeia. Are they related? "Oi..." He called out to her. He was not going to tell her off since he could guess that this was because of those zealots of a crowd. Rather, it aggravated him that a kid got mixed in this all. "Are you okay?" He asked as he picked up the crushed flowers and glanced at her. He could sense that something was wrong. She seems worried about something. "Are you hurt?" He went down on his knees so they could be at least be at a level. "What's wrong?" He asked while gently placing a hand on her head, a soothing gesture. "Are you separated from your parents?" Yeah, he definitely thought it was a kid around his brother's age.

“Hmm... Hmmm.. Hmm...” Cassie was humming a soft melody while sitting at one of the benches in the gardens of the Villa. Ever since she had been allowed to partake in the outside world, she had found much adoration for the lovely artwork of the earth or mostly commonly known as nature. The brightness of the sun, the cool breeze, the songs of the birds, the scent of the flowers blooming, she was completely taken in. She had barely been allowed outside when she was still in Greece. All she could see were the white walls, curtains, furniture, and anything one could find inside a house. This is why she likes the sensation of being outside. She reached out her hand as some petals of flowers being blown by the wind landed at her palm.

"Elle... It's time for your medicine." She looked over her shoulders and found a glass of water and a hand containing a tablet. She took it and then took the water to drink. She was soon done and handed back the glass. “Thank you, Hotaru.” Her loyal and kind guardian gave a brief nod. "I have found the location of Varthur Laurence's funeral." Cassiopeia lowered her head as she felt sadness. They were strangers and barely even schoolmates. But, she really didn't like seeing anyone die. She also knew it's a useless sentiment as everyone is bound to die at some point. But, it doesn't mean she can't not like it. “Hotaru when I--” She wasn't able to continue what she was about to say because Hotaru had placed a finger on her lips.

"Don't. I'll prepare the car." Hotaru said as she made a small bow and left. Cassie touched her lips where the lingering warmth of Hotaru's finger still remained. “I'm so sorry...” She muttered so softly and then took a deep breath. She even slapped her hands at both sides of her face. It was to wake her up and get her out of her self-induced slump. “Okay... I'm fine now.” She then stood from her seat and then took out her phone. She had been thinking of calling Aeon, just to ask if he is doing fine. But decided against it and simply sent a text message. “I hope you're okay. Say hi to Brinx and Andrew for me! Take it easy, alright?” She then sent it and went to the front where Hotaru was already waiting for her.

"Shall we go?" Cassie nodded with determination while another servant handed her the flowers she had bought the other day. “Thank you.” She said and then went towards the car. Once inside, Hotaru went to the driver's seat as she sat at the back. They soon began to leave the Villa's premises and made their way towards the funeral.

Momo woke up bright and early to prepare for Varthur's funeral. It had been a long time since she had dressed formally, but luckily her female suit that had been stashed away for such occasions still fit her frame perfectly. Sliding the suit on, she put away her mobile phone in an inside jacket pocket before making her way downstairs to join her mother for breakfast. "Morning~! You stayed up gaming again, didn't you?" was the first thing her mother said to her as she sat down at the table. "Yeah mom.." Momo chuckled nervously. Her mother didn't mind her gaming, in fact maybe even encouraged it but she did worry when the girl slept late. "Well, try not to sleep late especially when you have plans for the next day.. it's not good for your health." "Yes mom, I know. I got carried away." The rest of breakfast was spent discussing and reminiscing Varthur before the funeral. "That boy had a crush on you back then." her mother laughed as she started to put away the dishes. "Mother!" Momo shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she denied it. "He did, I know what boys are like." Her mother winked before leaving Momo at the table. Momo's thoughts drifted once again to the beach excursion, both the fun things and not so fun things. It was her first party and it was sad to think that it was also one of the last times she'd ever see him alive and happy. They had been enemies since the near end of elementary school but it was still a shock. Maybe if things had turned out differently.. we could have been friends instead. She thought to herself. Her and Varthur had a lot in common. They were both top students, smart with a bright future ahead of them. The only difference was Varthur had always been surrounded by people while Momo felt more like a shadow, he had always been accepted while she had been an outcast and he was always smiling, laughing, happy while she hadn't been. Momo shook her head and stood up from her seat, "Are you coming to the funeral too mom?" she called out. "Yes dear, I'll just be a little late because I have to let work know first. I'll see you there, okay?" Momo nodded and had her hand on the door handle but something about her attire felt incomplete. She rushed up the stairs and the first thing her eyes took notice of was the pair of glasses on her desk. Her hands delicately picked them up as a series of memories surged through her head of the bullying and teasing she had left behind that was associated with them. Removing her contacts and putting her eyeglasses on with a quick glance in the mirror, "This is about right... "

When Momo had stepped outside her house, her phone started beeping notifications. She took out her phone in a rush and recognized the icon. Facebook? I've hardly used it... she thought but was curious. It turned out to be a message from her classmate Kaoru: "Hey, Momo.. I gave Sera my number and asked if you guys wanted to hang out with me and Jonathan at the Arcade. Another girl might be coming, so it's just a bunch of us hanging out.. Are you coming? :D - Kaoru" Momo bit her lip thinking it over. She wasn't sure if it was appropriate to hang out at an arcade to have fun after a funeral but she did love arcades, particular the crane machines. Momo was really good at those. Plus, she was really keen on getting to know her classmates more and had the class president rallies upcoming. The more she socialized the better. She messaged back with her mind made up: "Okay, sounds coo00ool. I'm making my way to Varthur's funeral atm... :("
When it was sent, she continued walking till she reached the bus stop and sat down to wait. The location was a bit too far away for walking and she was sure her mother would scold her if she tried. Momo waited and waited, looking up at the cloudy sky as the wind blew through her pink hair. Even the sky looks sad for you...

Mai

Mai turned her head this way and that a look of guilt aparent on her face. Biting her lip the small girl reached for the flowers when a voice called outz "Oi..." At the time her back was slightly turned towards the stranger so she flinched just the slightest at the questioning note in the voice. From the deepness of it she could tell it was a man and all Mai could think was, Why a guy? Why couldn't it just be an old oba-san. Swallowing a lump in her throat Mai turned to face this person and was astounded by the way he looked.

The man was a giant towering over Mai who felt inferior and small, like a bug. So this is how they feel. Now she knew why all the girls were here thanks to his looks Mai was sure he could take anybody. Of course she cared little for it rather she could only think of his height at the moment. It was easy to see that Mai was flustered at him being there. She really had no idea of what to do at this point. She didn't want to speak since that would mean this tall person would hear her stammer and hate her even more. So when he started to ask a series of questions regarding her well being all Mai could do was shake her head no to the first two questions.

It seemed she faltered with the third one but she went into near shock when a hand placed itself on her head, closing her eyes tightly in reaction. Brining her hands up as if to move it Mai stopped not sure if it would anger him. Mai simply couldn't fathom why the giant was touching her head. "Are you separated from your parents?" Just hearing those words made Mai flinch. It could be worse but that would explain the head patting. Finally opening her eyes Mai's mouth opened and a blush added more color to already tanned skin upon realizing the giant had to get down on his knees just to be level with her.

Why am I so short! Was the only thought runing through her head but she knew she'd have to answer the giant. Taking in a deep breathe Mai's hands returned to her side pulling at her jacket. The small girl wanted nothing more than to pull up the hood of her jacket and dissapear from this situation. Well it's now or never. Her mouth turned into a thin line of determination and she peeked at the man before her. Mai looled away just as soon as her bright eyes made contact with his pale ones. It took Mai a few times to get her voice out, probably making herself seem like a fish out of water.

"Ah um I-I g-go-ot-t l-los-st. Taking out a list of things she needed to buy Mai showed him the grocery list before continuing. "I-I j-just n-ne-ed to f-ind-d t-the mar-ket." Despite her hard stammer Mai managed to relay her problems to the giant. In a way a bystander could look at the two of them an imagine a refined larger dog bearing down on a clueless puppy. The poor girl was shaking just the slightest as could be seen by her shaking hand while she presented the list to him.

Bishop Trander

Bishop followed his host Daniel to the rather nice car, glancing to his side to see Keiko holding onto him. When they got in, he blinked seeing her (Keiko) be sat at the front and frowned a little bit, wanting her to join the two of them. "Humble? This car is nice! This leather is really cool." Bishop smiled rubbing the seat he was in, and looked around the interior of the car. His attitude about the whole experience spoke olumes on how different the upbringings were between Bishop and his cousin Daniel. He kept looking up to Keiko trying to figure out how to try and talk to the girl, but he couldn't think of anything.

When they arrived at the restaurant he smiled smelling the amazing food from the outside and looked around. The junior was completely oblivious to the happenings and security going about due to all the of the prestigious persons by this establishment. When Keiko clung to his right arm, he smiled and laughed a little beginning to walk. "Hungry?" Bishop asked the girl with his accented Japanese. They stepped inside and were seated immediately, he looked over the menu noticing that Daniel left to go to tlak to his former pen-pal Devone. He perked up seeing her slightly, but was curious about who the girl she was sitting with (Arieta). He noticed that she was another blonde like him and his cousin which was interesting. <Wow, I guess Japan is a lot more diverse than I originally thought.> "Keiko wonders if Daniel is going to eat with them instead of us." Bishop blinked turning to his curious friend (Keiko) and patted her back. "I'm sure he has a reason to talk to them... Now how about we decide what to eat?" He looked to the menu and saw a lot of delicious options but his face grimaced seeing the price on some of the items. "Oh... Wow." He looked to Keiko again and got an idea. "I- don't know about you but this is a little expensive... You wanna share a meal? It could be fun. Maybe eat something we both haven't had before."

Depending on what him and Keiko decided the two would definitely eat, and quite well. Bishop would ensure that Keiko got home safely then would be taken home himself by either Daniel or had his parents come pick him up. Bishop would give Daniel his phone number as well as Keiko for them to all stay in touch. Later that night he had his bags packed and was moved to his grandmother's house to allow his parents some alone time..... for stuff. He didn't know, and he kinda didn't want to know honestly.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Saturday

Bishop woke up at an early time in the day to get himself ready for Varther's funeral. He sighed not in a really great mood today, but was sure to wear nice formal close, a black suit and tie with a white shirt. His grandmother- being old fashioned- nagged that he do certain things but Bishop dind't know Varther very well or his family. He couldn't say if they were going to have a 'traditional' buddhist Japanese funeral. But he had his condolence envelope, flowers and incense for the wake and funeral. He ate breakfast quietly, glancing at his phone but wasn't expecting anyone to call or text.

After breakfast he got into his aunt Musubi's small car and began to drive towards the funeral. He was quiet during the trip, except when he looked out the window and saw a pink haired girl he recognize (Momo). "Aunt Musubi, could you pull over? I know that girl." She pulled up to the bus stop, and Bishop rolled down the window peaking out. "Hey! Momo, are you going to Varther's funeral?" He asked, happy to see her but was sure not to sound too chipper about going to a funeral. Especially the one of their classmates. After her answer, he would extend the offer of giving her a lift to the location.

"When you see someone in trouble, you just have to."

It was very obvious to him that the little girl (Mai) was nervous and apparently scared of him. That was not totally unexpected by him. He remembered someone telling him that he was scary so, he should smile more. It was one of his fondest memories. This showed lightly in his eyes as it held a gentle warmth. One would wonder if it was towards the girl, but a deeper insight would lead to know that it was more of a faraway look than anything else. It was only briefly though as he shake those memories away and focused at the task at hand which was the trembling girl. He removed his hand from her head as it must be providing more discomfort than anything else and simply waited.

One of his fellow employees approached him. "What's wrong?" Ryou glanced at the other male and gestured that there was no trouble and in response the co-worker nodded in understanding as he focused on gently reprimanding the fan girls to give Ryou space. He was thankful for the help and returned his attention to the girl who seemed to be gathering her courage. This made him believe that she must be an extremely introvert and shy person. He softened his features and waited and soon his patience was rewarded. Her stammering words were a bit incoherent but, he managed to string it together. It seemed she got lost and needed to go to the market. That was quite a tall responsibility for a child like her. His parents were rather lazy, not around, or just extremely want to have their daughter learn household chores.

He took the handed list and nodded thoughtfully. "I see..." He stood from his position and motioned for one of his co=workers to come close. They then shared a few words. He would be leaving for a while to accompany the little girl. It was not a bad deal for him as it would also allow him a prelude of peace away from the harping attention of those girls. Plus, he had done most of his workload so a few hours away, won't be bad. He might also see his Aunt, Trixie, and Hikaru around there. "I got you covered, man." Ryou nodded as he removed the apron which served as his uniform and gave a small smile of thanks before facing the small girl again. "I'll take you there."

He reached out his hand to her. "My name is Ryou and what's yours?"
