A hard snap of a cane to Roxanne's knee was a harsh reminder to the princess to keep her legs straight. On the outside, she seemed unfazed , other then straightening her legs completely. Her expression remained emotionless as she effortlessly and gracefully moved with her dance instructor. Madame LeMaire was a rather cruel woman from Fance, who would stomp on Roxy's foot at every misstep, and bruising her knees every time she bent her knees at the wrong moment. In truth, the princess would love to give the old bat a few wacks of her own with that dreadful cane. "Thats all for today." The said abruptly, moving out of the way as the girl stumbled at the unexpected stop. Softly growling, Roxanne curtsied. "Yes, Madame LeMaire."

Half an hour, Princess Roxanne wore a maid's apron over a commoner girl's clothing. It was terribley dull (although her clothing was very nice by commoner's standards) yet comfortable. She allowed her long blonde hair to cover her face as she quickly hurried out of the castle. Thankfully, nobody stopped her. Once she was off of royal grounds, she took off her maid's apron and laid it down next to the gate. With a relived sigh, she sat down at the lake where the prince was to meet here. Slowly she took off her shoes and dipped her legs into the cold water, soothing her bruised knees and toes. "Gosh, that old bat will be the death of me." Roxy muttered, leaning back on the soft grass.

Along the outskirts of town, a young man was hard at work. The boy heaved a large fifty pound bag of grain over his right shoulder and then a lighter twenty-five pound bag over his left shoulder. The boy winced as a stroke of pain ran down his left shoulder. "I wonder if this pain will ever stop." The boy said quietly, dropping the two bags at the side of the average sized house. The boy brought his right hand across his forehead, wiping sweat and messing his blue bangs.

"Big bro, do you need any help?" A voice asked.

Alex turned around to see his younger, fourteen year old brother standing behind him, the high afternoon sun shined off his blue hair. His blue hair was much like his brother's and father's.

"Thanks, but I've got it." Alex replied, beaming his brother a smile. "Actually, I'm just finished up with work today. Do you want to play baseball or something, Tommy?"

"Sorry, but I've got to help Liz with her math homework." Thomas said, with a melancholic tone.

"Well then, I guess I get the day to myself." Alex stretched his right arm back behind his head and toward the sun, only stretching his left arm to about half way to where his right arm was. "I think I'll go into town for a while. I can trust the house to you while I'm gone, can't I?"

"Uh-huh," Thomas sounded. And with that, Alex was off to town.

Evangelina woke with a groan, lifting her arms above her head and stretching her body out as far as she could, before letting out a breath of air and relaxing again. Through the dirty yellowed glass of her window, sunlight fell on her face. With a soft sigh, she stood and moved to her mirror, assessing the damage. There were soft shadows under her much-too-large eyes, and her hair was slightly tangled, but that wasn't so bad. Ev grabbed her silver bristled brush, the most expensive thing she owned, and ran it through her hair. The bright blonde ringlets straightened themselves out before springing back into shape. Pulling it out of her hair, she looked at her brush. Her fingers slid over the intricate carvings for the millionth time before she placed it back down.

After evaluating herself, Evangelina stepped away from her vanity behind her dressing screen. She slid out of her sleeping gown and hung it over the edge of the screen. Afterwards, she grabbed a soft cotton chemise with short sleeves. It was breezy and light. Easy to wear. Next, Ev slipped into a pale green skirt and laced a black corset up the front. Looking herself over in the mirror, she scowled at how common she looked. Just a simple girl with a simple life. She sighed before pulling away and leaving her room.

Outside, her mother had placed a plate of bread and cheese outside her door for breakfast. Lifting the tray, Evangelina carried it into the living room, which consisted of nothing but a wooded rocking chair, fireplace, straw coated floor, and her mothers knitting basket. Their faithful hound Coon lifted his head as she entered and thumped his tail before falling back to the ground. Her house was empty. Both her mother and her father had left for the shop already and, looking down at the breakfast, she suddenly felt full so she placed it on a tray in the fireplace to keep it warm, and grabbed a cloak that hung next to the door. It was black, and not very warm, but it had a hood to conceal her face and keep her unnoticed, so she tolerated it.

The morning air was crisp and fresh, stinging her lungs slightly as she tied her cloak about her neck and lifted the hood over her soft blonde curls. Stepping lightly, she passed shabby, commoner homes on her way to town. When she reached the main square, Eva kept her eyes down and talked to no one until she reached her mothers shop. "Morning mother." She spoke softly. Her mother was helping a customer, measuring a thin pretty girl and helping her select rich velvet fabrics. Lucky. She couldn't keep the thought from whispering its way through her head no matter how hard she tried.

"Oh! Eva darling, just in time! I need you to run to the market and pick up a few things." Her mothers voice called, never looking up from her measurements, throwing about fabrics for the girl to see. It was always fantastic to watch how expertly her mother worked.

"Alright, I wont be a moment." She called back, sliding a basket over her arm and grabbing her mothers list before heading back outside into the sun. Evangelina walked briskly to the market. When she reached it, she pushed back her hood and revealed her delicate face as she walked slowly through the stalls.

Kain Ulric

The blade and Staff clashed as Kain sparred with his Master fencer Syrio. It has been awhile since Kain has seen the very man who taught him the dance but no matter it was a joyful reunion. He had been hoping to show his improvements for a while but since Syrio left the kingdom for a mission, it wasn't possible. Kain managed to almost trip Syrio before he did evading dash, pointing the blade right underneath Kain's neck.

"You have improved indeed, Lord Ulric" Syrio said sheathing his blade.

"All thanks too you Syrio... I'm glad you're back" He said hugging his old tutor.

"How couldn't i... Such thrilling events are about to occur... Especially between you and the princess.. Which i believe. Is waiting for you. It was always about this time" He said cheefully towards kain. Kain could only smile and pause for a moment. He then nodded setting his hand on Syrios shoulder.

"Thank you and you're right... Anyways, I should be off" He said smiling.

Kain went to his room first, before heading off to the meeting spot. I wouldn't blend with clothing like this. His green eyes moved noticing the nicest commoner's rags he obtained. He put them on quickly and made his way out, wearing a red cloak. As he headed towards the gate. A guard noticed him.

"Lord...Ulric.." He said curiousity.

"Keep quiet" Kain said giving a gold coin. "Sigh...it seemed so clear not long ago.." he thought as he went out of the gates.

As kain exited the gates and made it to a lake he heard Roxanne sigh and speaking after.
"Gosh, that old bat will be the death of me"
He noticed her as she sat down letting her feet flow in the lake. He chuckled as he walked beside her and sat down, letting his hands cool in the water. They had a little bit of bleeding for heavily sparring with Syrio.

"Worse then sparring "Roxy"? and Here I thought you were gonna be a strong queen!" he teased her sticking his tongue out at her playfully.

"I had to pay a wandering random guard... I honestly wish i could just say the truth sometimes but that would screw us over haha. Anyways, how did your dancing go?" He asked smiled.

Roxanne tilted back her head when she heard Kain come up behind her. She returned his playful smile, and laughed when he teased her.
"If you see a gaurd coming near you, speak gibberish to yourself. Usually it scares them off pretty quick." She laughed, taking her long ivory legs out of the cool water, and drying them off. When he asked how her dancing went, she gestured to her bruised toes and knees. "How does it look like it went? I don't know what traumatic experience she went through as a child, but that woman has something wrong with her."

Rolling her eyes, Roxy stood up and shook out her long blonde curls. She looked towards the town, then paused. "Your missing something." Then she went on to pick a very feminine pink flower, and put it in his hair. "There. Perfect." With a flirty smile, she nodded towards the town. "Lets go."
The princess walked into town with her head held high, and a defiant look in her bright blue eyes. She had taken off any jewelry or expensive items she had, although she probably wouldn't be recognized anyways. Commoners had only been able to see her from far away- they hadn't been able to get a good look at her.
"So." Roxy leaned against a wall, turning to her friend. "Meet me back here in an hour. I'll do my best here to get on here on time." With a flirty wink, she headed off in her own direction, her blonde curls bouncing with each step she took. Just as soon as she was out of Kain's field of vision, she bumped into a boy and caught herself just as she was about to fall. With a like blush, she looked up at the boy she bumped into. "I'm really sorry about that!" He had strange blue hair that matched his eyes. His bright blue eyes where hard to look away from, and she blushed even more when she found herself starting.

"If you see a gaurd coming near you, speak gibberish to yourself. Usually it scares them off pretty quick."

He laughed when he heard the reply. It was indeed a expected answer from her. He then watched as she took her legs from the calm lake and showed Kain the brused toes and knees.

"How does it look like it went? I don't know what traumatic experience she went through as a child, but that woman has something wrong with her." Roxanne said to him getting back to his first question. Kain then noticed as Roxanne turned to beautiful feminined flowers and picked one.
"Your missing something." She said picking it and placing it into Kain's hair.

"Eh--" He gestured in displease.

"There. Perfect." The princess said flirtatiously to him. He looked at her tapping it out. "No way!" he said with a grin only to have her follow up by saying "lets go". Kain began to think Roxanne was quite eager and determined to go into town. Her radiant defiant blue eyes stood front as they made it into town.

"So."

Suddenly she turned to him.

"Meet me back here in an hour. I'll do my best here to get on here on time." Roxanne said followed by that flirty wink. "She...really is determined todday". Before Kain realized it she had gone off in her own direction. Of course, Kain wasn't really expecting to follow her, he never did but he did always make sure she would be alright. She was his best friend after all but this time he had no time to ask. He smiled and shrugged it off. "She'll be fine...".

As Kain walked through the busy town he had his hood off. No one recognized him of course, he never did get off the kingdom's ground and No noblemen were here. Most stayed in the noble district busy with their own affairs. His only worry was one of the walking guards noticing but then again those who patrolled the streets weren't always familiar those of noble statuses due to being recruited by the recruiter of the area.

As Kain walked through the canals he finally made it to the Market. Busy as ever... He said walking to one of the shops. One in particular was a flowerbooth selling freshly bloom roses, Irises, lilacs and all other kinds of beautiful flower. He placed his hand under one of the roses in a vial and rose it up examining it. He then turned to the shopkeeper who was indeed a familiar old lady.

"Ma'am you always seem to pick the nicest roses" Kain smiled as he said that to her.

She smiled back. "Well I do have to keep my shop in good quality...its all i have now in days and also I like to see a returning face smile each time he sees them"

He continued to gaze at the flower until by the corner of his eye he noticed a girl enter the market, revealing herself then walk through the stalls (Evangelina). His attention was then set on her for a moment but he clicked back at turned his head back at the rose in thought and smiled.

Evangelina Gale

Evangelina strolled slowly through the market. She had a love-hate relationship with the large square of bustling stalls. On one hand she loved it because it was the closest thing to a life she had. Here, she had people to talk to and smiles and laughs to share. On the other hand, she was forced to converse with strangers. The place was crowded and people pushed her as they moved about. Eva slowly strolled through them with an innocent look on her delicate face, and a slight nervousness in her eyes. Every time someone bumped her, she looked back with genuine hurt before they were forgotten and she was back to her business. It was busy, and some of the commoners were rude, but everyday at the market was a different one. A small break from the routine of her everyday life.

With a sigh, Evangelina pushed her black hood the rest of the way back, allowing it to flutter back to her shoulders. Feeling eyes on her, she looked with only her eyes, not moving her body, and met eyes with a boy at the flower shop cupping a beautiful bud in his hand. A sharp intake of breath stung her lungs, but he looked away from her almost as soon as he'd seen her and she moved on.

In her basket, Eva had her mothers list, a bushel of flowers, and a small purse of coins. She was to use the money to buy the most important things off the list as cheaply as possible, empty the purse, then sell her flowers at the flower stall for as much money as possible and buy the remaining items with that. The market was like a whole new world that spoke a single language. Bargaining. Thankfully, Eva was fluent in the language. She knew which stalls would automatically give her discounts because they were either her friends, or friends of her family, she knew which stalls to shy away from, and she knew how to bring even the most stubborn vendor down.

Grabbing her cotton skirt in one hand and stepping through the mess of people, a glimmer caught the corner of her eye and she stopped at the jewelery stall. Rich golds, silvers, and gems decorated a velvet table cloth. Absentmindedly, she reached out and stoked a silver necklace. It wasn't extravagant, and consisted of a simple silver chain with a dewdrop opal hanging from it. Evangelina had had her eye on it for a long time. The vendor looked up at her with a grin. "Beautiful sparkles for a beautiful woman?" He spoke as if he didn't know her, but Ev knew he remembered her. She passed his stall and touched the same necklace every time. He knew she couldn't afford anything he had to offer and was being respectful, allowing her to look and not humiliating her and haggling her. Sometimes she wondered if he even kept the piece for her, hoping each time she would buy it.

"No.." Evangelina sighed wistfully, lifting her big blue eyes to him. "Not this time." And before he could say anything, she'd disappeared in the crowd again.

After she'd finished her bargaining for the top half of her mothers list, Ev made her way to the flower stand to find that the boy she'd seen a moment ago was still standing there, cupping the rose bulb gently in his hand. "Miss Evangelina! How nice to see you again!" She shop keeper beamed at her, causing her to pull her gaze from the boy back to the woman.

"Mrs. Wayland!" Evangelina grinned back. "I have another bushel for you. Straight from my garden. Same price as last week?"

"Wait now." The woman spoke, and her friendly face transformed into her business face as it always did. "I have a shop to uphold. Let me have a look at them before agreeing."

"Of course." Evangelina reached into her bag and pulled out the large bushel of flowers. Half were bright, bloodred, perfect roses and half were soft purple lilacs. She handed them to Mrs. Wayland and allowed her to inspect them. Her head was cast down towards the counter, but out of the corner of her eye, she watched the boy who'd she'd met eyes with earlier. He was dressed in commoner clothing, but you could tell that they were top-of-the-line. And he was handsome too. Very handsome. But there was something off about him, and after a second of inspection, she found it: he stood like a nobleman, not like a commoner.

Kain Ulric

As Kain gazed at the flower, his eye kept onto the beautiful girl until she suddenly disappeared into the crowd. He wanted to follow her but decided it would be best to settle where he was to enjoy the flowers.

"Miss Evangelina! How nice to see you again!" Said the shopkeeper turning her attention to the beauty Kain had seen before. He look over and gently whispering outloud "Evangelina...such a beautiful name...".

"Mrs. Wayland! I have another bushel for you. Straight from my garden. Same price as last week?" The girl said near him. He looked at her in admiration as he listened to her speak.

"Wait now." The woman spoke and informed the girl that she wanted examine the beautiful flowers before accepting them. Kain spoke gently.

"Madam... You, really can't tell these are quite nice flowers...very indeed, almost as beautiful as the one who sells them to you. Look at how perfect and beautiful the petals are on this rose. You can indeed tell it was well taken care of. . ." Kain said looking towards Evangelina and then turned to the shopkeeper.

"I want to buy your best Iris please" Kain said towards her. He may enjoy roses more then the iris blooms but this girl, reminded him somewhat of the flower second to his favor, coming to be the first. Although this thought came about he tried to block it off to be normal as the shopkeeper handed him the flower. He pulled out a gold coin and and slid it into her hands hoping no one but her saw the amount. The lady gave a smile as she then watched Kain hold out the flower to Evangelina.

"For you" Kain said with a light blush partially looking away still holding the flower out, hoping she would accept it. "You picked..such beautiful flowers and I believe you should have one for yourself..." He said with a smile.

"Madam... You, really can't tell these are quite nice flowers...very indeed, almost as beautiful as the one who sells them to you. Look at how perfect and beautiful the petals are on this rose. You can indeed tell it was well taken care of. . ." At the sound of the boys voice, Evangelina looked up, her big blue eyes meeting his as he spoke. When he complimented her care of the flowers, and compared them to her beauty, she couldn't help but blush lightly and drop her eyes. One finger drew small circles on the counter. She wasn't used to men complimenting her. She'd never thought she was ugly, just so... Common.

Evangelina watched as he bought an Iris and the woman smiled and went back to inspecting the flowers she'd handed her. "For you" The boy said and held it out to her, eyes honest. "You picked..such beautiful flowers and I believe you should have one for yourself..."

Tentatively, Evangeline raised her eyes to meet his again and smiled softly, her pink cheeks burning no matter how she tried to stop them. Reaching out, she took the flower gently and gave him a slight curtsey. It was no princess's curtsey, and was a little shaky, but at least she didn't fall. "Thank you." She spoke softly, making sure to keep eye contact. "I grow them myself. My garden is my greatest pride." Looking down at the flower in her hand, she petted the petals gently. "To me, from whom?" She asked his name. Maybe if she knew his name she would know where he was from. She'd never seen the boy in the market before, so he was new to town, but if she knew a last name, she might know if he was visiting a family she knew.

Inside, she knew he was probably just flirting with her. Afterall, she was so common, when he could have any village girl he wanted. Then there was the fact that her parents were looking to marry her off soon. She was of age to be married, and the family was in desperate need of money. They would marry her to the first taker with even a bit of gold. With this thought, her heart fell and she dropped her hand from the flowers petals, and looked back up at him, awaiting a name. He was common, but definitely better off then most. He spoke like a noblemen. She herself had exceptional language for a commoner, but then, most woman did. There was something about him that drew her in as well as something that told her to stay away. Smiling softly, cheeks fading to a soft pink, Eva gently placed the iris in her basket and accepted some coins from the shopkeeper, placing them in her tiny coin purse before looking back at him for an answer.

"Thank you." Evangelina said after a courtsy still keeping eye contact. To be honest, Kain didn't expect a bow or so. Perhaps only because he just hope she would accept. He continued to smile as she mentioned how she grew them.

"My garden is my greatest pride." She said as Kain noticed she looked down at the petals gently caring of the iris given. "I want.. to see it.." he began to think. He couldn't keep his eyes off her. So gentle and kind, suddenly she spoke again.

"To me, from whom?"

Kain for split second began to think. "Formally i would say my last as well but... I can't , not right now...". He knows he would draw much attention and eventually be set back if he were to say his full name. Kain was enjoying the moment going on between him and Evangelina and didn't want anything to part it.

"It's Kain" he suddenly took her hands and held them. "Evangelina, May i see your garden? Such beauty from these, my thoughts believe my eyes can't ignore". After Kain said this, he began to think of what may be going on. He knew what was happening but the choices he was making could be growing such feelings. It couldn't be helped, The prince wanted to be near her even if it wasn't going to be long each day. Kain had his sights planned out it seemed before even the day was done but he didn't mention it. However, the these ideals seemed to have the counter of thinking of the family agreement planned out for him as well. He felt like he "needed" to turn away but he "wanted" and seemed to have followed was to stay with her. "I wonder how Roxanne is doing on this fateful day... he wondered as he waited for her answer.

Evangelina Gale

A second of thought seemed to pass over his face before he answered, and Evangelina wondered what he was thinking, but before she could really go into it, he answered her. "It's Kain" He said simply. No last name. Was he hiding it from her? Was he ashamed of his family or did he simply not want her to come looking for him? Then he reached out suddenly and grabbed hold of her hands. She jumped at the sudden movement, but didn't pull away. Her big blue eyes were shocked for a second, but then she realized all he'd done was grab her hands and she blushed a little, looking down at them. His were so much bigger then hers.

"Evangelina, May I see your garden? Such beauty from these, my thoughts believe my eyes can't ignore". He spoke again, and she lifted her eyes back to his and blinked, registering what he was saying. He wanted to come back to her house with her and see her garden. She bit her lip. No one was home so she guessed no one would see them. But what would her mother say if she found out Evangelina and a boy were alone at her house? She knew exactly what she'd say: "Evangeline!" She would gasp. "How unladylike. If anyone found out you'd be shunned for life and we'd never find you a good husband then."

With a sigh, she smiled up at him. The thought of disobeying her mother and doing something new for once in her life thrilled her. "Alright." Eva said, eyes a little nervous. "But no one's home, so don't tell anyone." She was taking a leap of faith in trusting him, some random stranger off the streets, but looking into his eyes she felt like she honestly could. It wasn't something she could explain, she just had a feeling that he was honest.

Lacing her fingers in his, she lead him through the crowded market, holding tight to his hand so they didn't get separated. She could feel the strength in his grip against her tiny hand and glanced back at him. He was strong, but not dirty. Did he just like being clean? What did he do for a living? As they pulled out of the market place and the streets became easier to navigate, Eva dropped his hand and pulled up her hood subconsciously.

When they reached her little house, Evangelina winced at how small it was. What did he think of her pitiful little three-room home? Glancing up and down the street before unlocking her door, she slipped into the dark living room. "This is my house." She said with a smile. "It's smaller then the rest of the street, but it has a bigger yard. More room for my garden." The fireplace crackled, giving the dark room a dim glow.

"It's this way." Evangelina pushed her hood off once more and lead Kain through the house and out the back door. Instantly, the house transformed. Stepping outside, there was a single step down from her house. A stone walkway curved ahead of them under a white trellace arch, red roses growing on it. beyond the trellace, a winding path made its way through an intricate garden. Flowers were placed strategically for color, smell, and type of butterflies and bugs they attracted. In the center of the garden, a large white gazebo stood, with more red roses twining up its sides. Smells wafted around her sweetly and butterflies fluttered. The space was small, but beautiful. "I know it's small.." She said, strolling down the path. "It's not any palace garden, but it's the most I have so I make the best of it." When she reached the white, rose covered archway, she turned to face him and placed a hand on it's smooth white wood with a smile. A wistful look came into her blue eyes. "Sometimes I sit and think about how I would arrange a garden that big." Eva laughed lightly. "I would probably never leave."

Kain Ulric

"Alright."

At this his heart jumped with excitement. He felt pleased to be trusted by her but moreso that she could be with her a little longer. In addition to such things, Kain wanted to see where she came from and how her living was. He had always been in thought of how commoners lived. Other then seeing what the shops sold, he never actually seen the residential area of the towns. "How fun" he thought before Eva's fingered laced around his. "Such warm and soft hands" he thought as she began leading him to her home.

When they arrived Kain noticed the house, it was smaller then the others but not bad. Any home is good as long as it provides what they need. His admiration and examination was interrupted by Eva's soft voice.

"This is my house." Evangelina said with a smile as they reached the house.

"Its sweet, all homes are because of the people who live within them as long as the family loves each other no house could be bad" He said looking in admiration outside of the house suddenly to enter it.

"It's smaller then the rest of the street, but it has a bigger yard. More room for my garden." She said. Kain could hear the fireplace crack and there footprints tap the ground as they entered. Obviously no one was home. It was quiet and tranquil inside, warm as well Kain thought. Of course, he wasn't comparing it to the Palace but why would he? In fact, he actually was enjoying the smaller home, In all honesty his big castle walls wasn't always enjoyable moving around but i guess it was what his family and noblemen partially needed.

"It's this way." She said and motioned to Kain. He watched as she pushed her hood off, seeing her beauty once more and then lead him out the back door.

Before his eyes, as they stepped down from the house to stone walk way was a white , rose covered arch. "How beautiful" He said taking her hand eagerly as he moved them to the center of the gozebo, looking and smelling the flowers as they passed by.

"I know it's small.." She said along the way. Kain listened to her as she spoke.

"It's not any palace garden, but it's the most I have so I make the best of it." she reached the white, rose covered archway, she turned to face him and placed a hand on it's smooth white wood with a smile.
He place his hand gently over hers and spoke gently.

"It doesn't have to be a palace garden to be beautiful, If i was to -- If I could have any garden, it would be one like this" He spoke calmy as he moved their hands and sniffed the flower with a smile then looked at her.
He looked at her expression change as she spoke.

"Sometimes I sit and think about how I would arrange a garden that big." Kain looked at her. "I want to -- No, somehow and someday you will have it... Kain thought for a moment looking into her eyes silently. He then made a smile looking at the flower in her hand.

"Someday. . ." he spoke gently. "I know you'll have it". He just noticed their hands never parted from each other and from that he blushed. He wanted to pull away because he knew what type of feelings were occuring for him but he couldn't nor did he truly want to. the gentle warmness from her hands, the kind words, the beautiful skin she had made him want to stay like this but he didn't speak it outloud, how could he, she probably thought odd of him, especially for not giving a last name.

He spoke her name gently quiet as he could but outloud without noticing as he looked down at their hands.

Evangelina Gale

Evangelina listened to him answer her perfectly on each thing she said and smiled. He was too great. And to think she'd just run into him on the street? This kind of thing didn't happen to girls like her. For all she knew he was married or was only passing through town for the night. The thought made her want to cry for some odd reason. She bit her lip and looked down at their entwined fingers just as he was.

"Someday. . ." he spoke gently. "I know you'll have it." He hesitated and seemed to be in deep thought, giving Eva some time to think as well. Could she really find someone so perfect? Was that even possible for her? She was supposed to live a careful little life in her careful little routine and marry some older man and be his careful little wife. But here was this incredibly charming stranger and she was standing very close to him, alone in her garden. Could things get any more scandalous? And yet it was thrilling.

Her fingers tightened on his and she heard him say her name. Softly, almost inaudible, but it was there. Gently, Evangelina guided them to the rose-covered gazebo in the center of the garden and stood in it with him, still holding his hands. She looked up and met his eyes. She'd just met him and there was something that told her this was wrong.

But there was also something that told her she wanted to wrap herself into his arms, fall into the flowers, and never leave. Was it really that crazy? Romeo and Juliet had kissed twice in their first ten minutes of knowing each other. But they both died in the end. She told herself. Smiling, Eva blinked.

"What is it about you?" She asked carefully and stepped a tiny bit closer, cautiously. "I mean... Please tell me you're not married or something." She laughed nervously. How could she be so bold? But she couldn't help it. She had to know.

They finally made it within the gozebo and stood in it with each other. Their eyes still on one another. It was in this moment that Kain felt as if he wanted to embrace her, his heart knew it wanted to devote itself to hers as they looked at each other.

"What is it about you?" Evangeline asked with a careful tone, taking a step forward cautiously. Something inside Kain felt like he to should take a step as well and he did silently.

"I mean... Please tell me you're not married or something."

He heard as he got closer backing Eva up to the fence gently, as he held onto her waist. Suddenly his other hand reached near supportling onto the top of the fence as he looked into her eyes. She then gave a nervous laugh. Which sparked in. He paused once more. Thinking of Roxanne and his familys but as he did so he couldn't lie of the feelings he had.

"I'm not married... a undecided arranged marriage may be done for me and before... I was proud to do it for my family but now...I'm sorry!" He said with a sorry exclamation as he suddenly pressed his lips against hers and closed his eyes. A slightly strong wind blew flower petals passed them as if the kiss was to be fateful. His heart was happy but inside, he was scared of this kiss but was it this kiss or day in general, His true love stands before him and his family divides it. He knows for a fact that it could lead to trouble but in his heart he didn't care. His heart wanted to run away with her, denying his name and family to be with her but nothing was possible in what he wanted. However what was possible was to love this girl, Evangelina, til his death in truth.

The hand Kain had on Evangelina's waste went to her cheek, as he pulled away slightly looking into her eyes. They appeared somewhat teary, he could feel them forming. Tears of joy and sorrow appeared. As his hand strokes back towards her hair, fingers lacing between the strands.

"My...dear Evangelina..." he said softly in whisper as he looked at her. In truth he wanted to stay but wasn't sure if he should flee to the kingdom. He knows he didn't mention his last name or royalty but he began to think he probably should. Kain stood silently as he held Evangelina close on the gozebo as his mind struggled between decisions.

Evangelina Gale

Evangelina allowed him to back her up against the wall of the gazebo. Her heart pounded so loudly in her chest she was sure he could hear it. She'd never been so close to a man before. Then he slipped an arm around her waist and used the other to support himself on the wall behind her head, boxing her in. She felt the closeness of him and her cheeks blushed automatically, unable to stop it. She hated being so shy, but she really couldn't help it. Tilting her head and biting her lip, she looked up at him for an answer, expecting bad news.

"I'm not married... an undecided arranged marriage may be done for me and before... I was proud to do it for my family but now...I'm sorry!" Evangelina's heart dropped and her hopeful face fell. He wasn't married, but he was engaged. Though the way he made it sound, he didn't want to marry this girl. She was just going to push him away and tell him that what he was doing with her was wrong.

But never got the chance. Suddenly his lips were pressed to hers and a wind lifted petals into the air. Evangelina's first instinct was shock, and her heart pounded even faster. She sighed softly into the kiss and leaned forward, closing the last bit of space between them. She couldn't help it. She knew he was engaged, and she herself was going to be married off soon, but she couldn't bring herself to care. All she cared about was his mouth on hers. It was forbidden. If her father could see them, he'd beat Kain senseless and she'd never be allowed to leave the house again. They were alone at her house kissing.

Evangelina didn't care. She didn't push him away or tell him to stop. Instead, she kissed him back. Then he pulled back and pulled his hand from her waist to her cheek, which were flushed a bright pink. She had to catch her breath, feeling the void between them suddenly like it was a canyon. Even if they were only a few inches apart.

His fingers slid into her blonde, ringleted, hair and he looked her in the eyes. Her big blue ones searched his innocently, looking for his reaction to what had just happened. They were wet with tears and painfully sad, but joyful at the same time. He must've been thinking about his fiance. Had he kissed her, like he just had? "My...dear Evangelina..." She heard him whisper and she heard everything she saw in his eyes in it. The pain, but also the love. Then a question flashed across his face clear as day. He was wondering whether he should go or not.

Quickly, Evangelina wrapped her arms around his neck and shook her head. "No." She whispered. "Don't go..." Her parents wouldn't be home until late and they were used her her running off to he market and spending all day there. They wouldn't even notice.

Kain felt his kiss returned during the moment. It was apparent such love was already between them as they held each other. In the moment of thought and choice was siezed by Evangelina's warmth, her arms going around his neck as she shook her head "No" as if she knew exactly what was going on in his head. He then heard her whisper as the wind settled.

"Don't go..."

Kain looked at her for a split second and pull her into his embrace and spoke gently as he held her to his chest.

"Evangelina, I -" he paused in thought before speaking up. "Our families and history divides us but - I'll do what i can. For now. . . I may worry of what the outcome of all this may be. However, All i wish for and all i want is to be with you, Tell me, where do you want to go for the time we have" He said pulling back and holding her cheek in his palm as he looked into her eyes. It was quiet and peaceful, nearly seemed as if nothing could go wrong. It is only one hour after mid day and most commoners work during this time. There were no way that soldiers could go this far but he did worry if he were to take too long and it would be noticable to the kingdom. Especially if they were to send search parties out.

"lets not go back into town. I would rather be away just with you where no one could interrupt us for the time we have with each other" He said holding her hands. He would take her to castle grounds but no, it was way to early for that. Especially now it would look suspicious and cause madness within noble grounds. The only thing he could really believe was right was to let Evangelina decide, especially since she knew the common grounds more then what he knew of it himself.

Evangelina smiled when he pulled her closer in his arms, holding her to him. She place a hand on his chest, looking up at him. She could feel his heartbeat. Apparently their stolen kiss had thrilled him as much as it had her. She bit her lip with a small smile. She felt like her whole life she'd been asleep and now she was just waking up. Just starting to truly live. Her whole life had been such a bore until now.

"Evangelina, I -" Evangelina heard the hesitation in his voice and looked up, studying his face. Why the pause? He'd already told her he was engaged. What more could there be? "Our families and history divides us but - I'll do what i can. For now. . . I may worry of what the outcome of all this may be. However, All i wish for and all i want is to be with you, Tell me, where do you want to go for the time we have?" Their families? Why would their families keep them apart?

Her family's social status was too low for him. He was dressed like a commoner, but not a poor one like her. That was for sure. She was going to ask him why he couldn't be seen with her as he was saying, but he spoke up again so she decided to save it for later. "Let's not go back into town. I would rather be away just with you where no one could interrupt us for the time we have with each other."

"Okay." She nodded, thinking of the possible places they could go. One came to her and she smiled, lacing her fingers in his and leading him out the back gate of her garden. "Come on." She smiled, skirting the residential area and staying away from the center of town. They soon came to the edge of town. Before them lay endless forests. "Before today, this is the only adventure my life held." She bit her lip and tightened her grip on his fingers, pulling him gently among the trees until she reached the place she'd been thinking of.

Slowly, the trees thinned out and opened up into a large clearing. In the center of the clearing, a deep blue pool sat, glittering in the afternoon sun. The grass was soft and on the otherside of the little lake, sat a small white boat shed with an old row boat tied up next to it. "Pretty right?" Evangelina grinned and looked up at him.

"Okay."

Kain watched Eva as she was in thought and suddenly it appear one popped into her mind as she smiled. Once again their fingers laced together and he was lead out the back gate of the garden.

"Come on" Kain heard as he smiled with her. Avoiding going through the the center of the town and avoiding the busy places they finally made it to one of the exit's to a forest.

"Before today, this is the only adventure my life held."

"I can not wait to see it, this may be the first adventure that my life has ever taken" He smiled in reply
One Kain actually often looked upon from his chambers. He oftened wondered what was beyond the city as he sat in his chamber with nothing to do. He closed his eyes happily smelling the nature from it as she pulled him along gently going through a few trees to reach a clearing in the center. Suddenly revealing a deep blue pool. The sun reflected off of it beautifully and everything seemed to be kept as if the goddess of land forbidded any corruption. to this part. On the other side Kain spotted a old row boat near a small shed close by. He smiled as he listened to Evangeline speak and grin up to him.

"It is indeed... and whats better is that you fit everything i could want right now" He took a step back to get behind her and then wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes as he listened to the nature around him. It was in this moment that Kain just blanked out all his worries. He didn't even think of his family or any trouble he may have. All that was in his mind was him, Evangelina and the beauty surrounding.

"Thank you.. Evangelina" He said softly as one of his hands took one of hers gently to hold.

Evangelina smiled when he stepped up behind her and slid his arms around her. She traced small circles on the back of his hand, closing her eyes and taking in her happiness. Was this possible? "It is indeed... and whats better is that you fit everything i could want right now." His words made her blush once more, and she turned her head towards him.

"Thank you.. Evangelina." He was thanking her, but for what she didn't know. Did she want to? She could feel his bliss and loved the warmth of his body holding her. Did she really want to ruin his good mood by asking him tough questions?

Slowly, she turned in his arms, not breaking the embrace. "Kain..?" She whispered, biting her lip and laying her head on his chest. "Forgive me for asking, but... You said something about our families keeping us apart..." Speaking slowly and cautiously, Eva traced small circles on his shirt with her finger. "Why? Is it because I'm poor? Are you-" she forced herself to say it. "Are you ashamed to be seen with me?"

Inside, she knew there was more then that, but she wanted to hear it. She wanted him to say it to her.

"Kain..?"

Kain heard Evangelina whisper as she layed her head onto his chest.

"Forgive me for asking, but... You said something about our families keeping us apart..."

He listened to her speak slowly in caution but didn't reply just yet knowing she wasn't done. He looked down at her as she continued. "I can't let the mask of my family stay on much longer.. He thought as she spoke once more.

"Why? Is it because I'm poor? Are you-" she forced herself to say it. "Are you ashamed to be seen with me?" she spoke as she traced in circles upon his chest through his shirt. Kain snapped at this, not aggressively or angrily but just as if surprised.

"No, not at all, Evangelina!" He said releasing his embrace. He paused as he moved to the edge of the lake where the water was. "Not one bit ashamed..." He spoke again softly as he looked down at the water listening to some of the fish jump out from under it and splash back in. His eyes straightforward looking to the reflected sun on the water. A breeze began as he spoke once more turning to her.

"Evangelina . . . I am, Kain Ulric, son of Alas Ulric and Arturia Ulric." He said turning around completely taking her hand as he began to walk towards the shack. Along the way he began telling the story behind everything. Likely, he wasn't to tell any commoners even those below the status but with Evangelina it was different. He loved her truly and couldn't hide anything.

"Before, this kingdom and the other were at war. The only solution favorable was for me and Roxanne to marry. So for my eigtheen years, I have been with her but, we're not near any lover's relationship, she's my best friend. We've always been there for each other but never got that close even if thats what our royal families wanted." He spoke seriously finally making it to the shack.

"I'm not ashamed of you, not one bit!" He kneeled to her holding her hand as he looked up at her. "If i had my choice, i would rid all of the past events and declare marriage towards you without hiding. This is true love, this is what i never experienced until now. . ." He spoke gently then looked away. "The fact i am royalty is what i'm truly afraid of.. .especially for us, if war would break out again. If i go against the orders to marry Roxanne and I mention you... or worse to be seen without mentioning then...I don't know --- I Just don't want anything to happen to you! my main priority before was to protect the city and sway from any true love I may find but i didn't know what it was, Now its to protect you... and I don't know if i can do it... I love you, and i don't want to be parted even though these conflicts may very well lead to that case"

He stood back up and looked away towards the lake once more, the sun was setting but he still didn't care. He wanted to be with her as if it may be his last. No matter what the cost of it was.

Evangelina Gale

Evangelina felt him start in shock and pull away from her, walking to the edge of the water, back to her. Biting her lip, she stood there playing with her fingers. She'd asked the wrong question, she knew it. But she had to know the truth. If she ever wanted anything with him she'd have to know who he was. Even if it meant being hurt. Now she felt like he was trying to find a way to let her down easy and looked down at her hands.

"Not one bit ashamed..." She heard him say, and looked up, hopeful. What he said next, she wasn't prepared for.

"Evangelina... I am, Kain Ulric, son of Alas Ulric and Arturia Ulric." Kain... Kain Ulric? Her blue eyes widened in utter shock, and she bit down so hard on her lip she was sure she'd tasted blood. Now she knew why he'd been so mysterious. Everything fit together. He took her hand and began to lead her towards the shack, explaining to her everything that he'd left out. Everything from his engagement to the princess to his friendship with her.

Evangelina's heart pounded in her chest as they reached the shack. She was in love with the prince? And a prince was in love with her? Underneath all the painful details of it, it was thrilling. A forbidden love. "I'm not ashamed of you, not one bit!" He declared, kneeling before her and taking her hand. Biting her lip, Evangelina looked down into his deep green eyes.

"If i had my choice, i would rid all of the past events and declare marriage towards you without hiding. This is true love, this is what i never experienced until now. . ." He spoke gently then looked away from her. "The fact i am royalty is what i'm truly afraid of.. .especially for us, if war would break out again. I love you, and i don't want to be parted even though these conflicts may very well lead to that case"

The declaration of his love for her made her heart skip a beat and when he stood, turning towards the lake again, Evanglina pressed her back against the shack and watched him, not knowing what to say. She wanted to laugh and hold him close while at the same time, she wanted to cry. They were secret lovers now and it was exciting at the same time painful. "I love you Kain." She smiled. "How will this work?" She asked, pressing her back harder against the wall of the shack. She watched the slant of his shoulders. Strong and able. "I feel like I'm living a fairytale. One minute I'm sleeping in the fireplace and the next a prince is sweeping me off my feet." Unlike a fairy tale though, they had to stay a secret. There would be no whisking away to a ball where he would marry her and she'd become a princess. No. That wasn't possible. Was it chance that they'd run into each other, or something more?

"I love you, Kain"

The words repeated in Kain's mind as he watched her smile. This indeed made him smile back at her as well.

"How will this work?" Kain heard her ask. He turned to her with a serious look in his eyes and spoke.

"I don't know, Evangelina, but with what power i have, We'll make it work someday... somehow" He put some hope in it himself but was still wary of the situation they were in. Suddenly even though his thought just began she spoke.

[/b]"I feel like I'm living a fairytale. One minute I'm sleeping in the fireplace and the next a prince is sweeping me off my feet."[/b]

"If only, life's stories could come out as all romantical fairytales do. . . no matter. . ." Kain spoke then paused. He slid down, sitting upon the lush grass. He then took her hand gently pulling her down carefully into his lap, to hold her. As he held her gently, listening to the nature surrounding them. His worries once again fled for the moment. Although for a time, he did wonder if he may miss the time that Roxanne and him usually meet. He could only hope that she was as lucky as him at the moment. "It is odd... but do we really need marriage between Roxanne and I? Is being best friends really not enough for our parents... I know when the time comes... especially now, I very well may have to decline.." he thought as he pulled Evangelina closer to him.

"This definately didn't happen by chance but by fate, no love could be this great if it were by chance. I could ask for no one better because, she is who i embrace now... Evangelina.. . no matter the outcome, I will protect you and your family" he said gently.

"I don't know, Evangelina, but with what power I have, We'll make it work someday... somehow" She heard him say and let out a deep sigh. She wanted to see him everyday. The day she'd spent with him had been the most eventful day of her life. It had been exciting, scandalous, sweet, and loving. Glancing at the setting sun, her heart dropped. She didn't want it to end.

"If only, life's stories could come out as all romantic fairytales do. . . no matter. . ." He said, and she nodded in agreement. If only life really could be like a fairytale. Her fingers thrummed lightly on the shed behind her as she watched him sit in the grass. His hand clasped hers and he pulled her down to sit in his lap. She smiled and adjusted her skirts, placing her head on his shoulder with a soft sigh.

"This definately didn't happen by chance but by fate, no love could be this great if it were by chance. I could ask for no one better because, she is who i embrace now... Evangelina.. . no matter the outcome, I will protect you and your family." Evangelina closed her eyes, listening to his words as well as the nature around them.

"I wish today could last forever." She spoke wistfully with a sigh.

"I wish today could last forever." Evangelina spoke wistfully with a sigh.

Kain paused as he looked into the reflected water of the lake and held Evangelina close.

"So do i..." he said softly and closed his eyes. This could very well be the last time that Kain could ever see Evangelina even though he didn't want to. He couldn't predict the future but he would damn try to keep them together if he could. A main fear was his father finding out somehow and forbidding him to leave the castle again. Such thoughts made him shiver but quickly he zoned in again and smiled to Evangeline.

Hours passed and the sun nearly set, Kain leaned up making sure Evangelina wasn't asleep first or so. After standing up he held out his hand to help her up and then spoke softly.

"I'm sorry... Its time for me to go.." He said with his hand out and helped her get balanced. He leaned forward and kissed her lips gently then parted them as he whispered.

"Evangelina... I will be back for you... I promise you. If i don't come back... Just wait for me" Kain said. He then turned around and ran off. He didn't like the way he departed nor left Eva but he needed to get back to the meeting place to meet Roxanne and see the royal family. Being out too late could cause problem amongst nobles, especially if they found out he was on commoner's ground. He only hoped that Evangelina knew how much he cared and loved her from this.
