William Karon [20] "It will be done, your highness."
Elvira-Esperanza of Candule [20] "I love to be the one who is unnoticed in a crowd, who knows everything she can about anything. But at the same time, I like to be the girl who isn't as invisible as she thinks, who is noticed by one person in the crowd, not all."

"William, would you come here a moment?" Elvira-Esperanza sat in her well-lit oval-office. It had a large circular window with a view of the ocean outside, the blue waves lapping at the shore. She had always loved her office in the afternoon, just after the sun had fully risen. It was full of soft light and it made the office seem very airy and comfortable. She had ordered the palace architect to design her bedroom to be like her office in that way and he had delivered. Now, Esperanza could live in her room if she wanted to, with the master bath with a jacuzzi and vanity sink, to the large closet filled with her dresses and petticoats and shoes, to the connecting room sitting room leading to her sister's room. Her room was one of the many crown rooms within the palace walls and she took pride in it. She also had a large semicircle balcony with double french doors and white, floor-length sheer curtains on either side. Her room overlooked the harbor and she almost always heard the waves crash onto the beach of white sand. She sighed at the many memories of her childhood outside with her sister. She remembered the one time she went on a boat. Her sister had gotten sea sick, but she had been absolutely fine, standing the whole time at the bow, her dress forming to her due to the wind. Her head snapped back up when she heard the voice of her commander.

It had been a while since William had stood on land. The officer was dressed in his dress uniform, complete with a saber and pistol. He had to say, the reassuring feel of the earth under his feet was rather satisfying. And of course, his leave was all thanks to the princess. William never considered the two as "friends" no that wouldn't be proper, her being royalty and all. However he did consider them to be quite close acquaintances. Now that he thought about it, lots of the good things in his life were all "thanks to the princess." This included his quick climbing of the ranks, and also his social status. "I really do have much to thank her for...don't I? I wonder where I would be without her highness..." William tried to cut the idea out of his mind, but the gears in his head were already well at work.

"On some old beat up ship no doubt." he thought. "With some idiot as the Captain of course." The call of the Princess' voice jolted the young Commander from his thoughts.

"William, would you come here a moment?" William eyes quickly focused on the silhouette of the young monarch's frame.

"Of course your highness, is there something I may assist you in?" he replied promptly, making his way towards the owner of the voice.

Her level gaze measured with his as she held her chin high. "No, not today, thank you. I am actually wondering about something." She looked away about halfway through her words so that her gaze would not seem awkward. She had her hands clasped behind her back as she slowly turned and walked towards the circular window. She hadn't been out in a while and she was dying to see the world again. "What was it like? Out there again?" The soft light lit her face in a gentle way, caressing her features and causing her to look younger. She turned back around, her loose blonde hair flipping behind her to rest at the middle of her back.

His question was replied to with yet another question. "What was it like? Out there again?" William had to admit, he was caught off guard by this question and he just stood there for a moment. However after a second's thought, he thought up a creative answer.

"Well your highness," he began "Where shall I begin?" the young man began pacing the room. "I must say that it's been rather...gloomy. Nothing you would be interested in. Overcast most of the time, sometimes raining, pouring every now and then. With occasional breaks of sunshine of course. But then again, also quite scary honestly. Recently there have been reports of pirates ransacking merchant ships. Of course, that's nothing that I should worry your majesty with." he finished with a sigh.

William took a look around and admired the wonderful room. It looked as if it would have took...more than he would ever posses to remodel just the single room. The young officer recalled his own quarters within his vessel. "Small un-decorated...basic."

Anza turned away from the window to give him a measured a stare. After she had analyzed his features to see if he was telling the truth, she turned back towards the window, her pale face reflected in the glass. "Oh" was all she said as she gripped her skirts tightly. She didn't know why she was nervous, but she felt like something was coming. Something big.

After taking a look, almost as if studying the man, the young monarch replied with a single word. "Oh" William had to say, he was a bit tooken back by her majesty's reply. If not discouraged.
"Was it something that I had said? Maybe my body language? Possibly she took something as offensive?" the thoughts ran through his mind at a rapid pace. And yes, he new for certain that something wasn't right, the younger female seemed to be...clutching her clothing? "Oh my, have I angered her?" Things seemed to be getting off on the wrong foot here. He was supposed to be gaining the princess's favor here, not driving it farther away.
William met Elvira's gaze through the reflection of the glass and gave the "sympathetic/helpless" sort of look. As if to apologize. "If my lady would excuse my asking. Is there something that is perhaps...being of a bother to her? Of course, I would not be as rude to ask of what it could be..."

"Oh no, William! You haven't done a thing wrong here. I'm afraid it's me and my thoughts that are getting to me." She let go of her clothing quickly, knowing that it had probably been a sign of her distress. As she stared at him, she gave a light laugh. "I suppose it was a bit silly of me, to think I could sail once again. That was for little girls, to dream so big and create a reality." She sighed shortly and then realized what she had said. She had basically given him a perfect opening to have pity for her. She hated pity. "Sorry, I didn't mean to say all that." She let her arms hang lamely by her sides, her dress swishing back and forth. Her bodice felt very tight, suddenly, as though somebody had come up behind her and re-laced the strings even tighter. Her breathing felt constricted and she quickly pushed past William and her guards and hurried to her room. When she got there, she paced over to her balcony and pushed open the double french doors, gasping for fresh air leaning over the balcony.

When Elvira pushed past him, William quickly stepped out of here way. However he got the feeling that something was wrong. Something really was bothering her majesty, that was for sure. The young man pursued the monarch at a brisk pace, but stopped outside of her room. No, he couldn't just walk inside, that would be completely rude. So William rapped his knuckles on the wide open door.
"Your highness! Is everything alright?" That was when William caught a glimpse of the princess leaning over the balcony. Then it clicked. "Ah, that's it of course. She wants out, to see what it's like outside." And that thought triggered another. "...Your majesty? I feel that I may have a way to get you outside...that is, if you'd like."

Elvira didn't notice that William had followed her, so she sighed and brushed the stray hairs from her face. Her hands found her face easily and she rested her head in her hands. The wind started to pick up around her. It felt weird with the wind brushing the top of her plaited hair and not being able to feel it. She reached up, frustrated with her life, and started to pull the pins out of her blonde wispy hair. She debated whether or not she should throw them over the edge, but thought better of it when the face of her dear lady in waiting, Carlota, came into her head. She would be heartbroken if she threw the pins away like they were nothing, so she carefully set them on the edge on the balcony, one by one. Once she was done, she brushed her hair back and leaned back against the balcony, sighing. The wind was still fairly rough so her hair was whipping wildly everywhere. Wait, why was the wind so rough? She thought. As far as she knew, there weren't many wind mages in her nation. They were mostly water, with the occasional earth mage. She peered over the edge and saw a small tornado spiraling from the ground. "What the..." She said softly.

William waited for the response that never came. Instead the young man was answered by an unusually strong gust of wind. A very unusual strong gust of wind. He knew something was wrong, that was for sure. The commander made his way to the balcony in time to overhear the princess. "What the..." William followed the monarch's eyes until...He was nearly frozen with disbelief.
"What is going on? What is this? Do I do something?" Then it hit him, the first priority would be to get the princess to safety. Currently she was almost on top of a miniature tornado of sorts. Not safe. The naval officer grabbed the princess's hand without a seconds notice and most un-gentlemanly yanked her out of the room.
"What next? What next?" The guards stared at him as if the man was insane, and he did look so. "You" William pointed at one of the guards. "Let someone important know that there's a tornado forming under the balcony over there." The guard hesitated for a moment, but after glancing at the medals and ribbons William wore, the soldier took off.

"William, would you please let go of me?" She spoke calmly, but inside her head, her thoughts were spinning into space. She didn't know what was going on, but what she did know was that a very powerful wind mage was about to wreak havoc on the castle. And for some reason, the thought following that thought was, Maybe I'll be able to go on a boat now. Or go onto the ocean at least. She wanted to slap herself for thinking it, but she couldn't be bothered then and there. She knew that William looked as scared as ever and she could just order everyone around to where they should go, but she didn't have the heart. That was her sister's job.

"Oh, of course." William quickly released the princess's hand. "My apologies." However the man was too much in shock to be embarrassed. "What is going on here?" he thought. The floor began to shake. The whirlwind was rattling the supports of the balcony. "If I don't do something...the whole castle could crumble." The commander looked around frantically. "What? How? Can I get out of this situation?" Then, as quickly as it appeared, it subsided.
"What a fool I've been. All I have to do is avoid the threat all together!" William took a look at the princess, she looked calm, collected, and most of all much more mature than he. What an embarrassment. He offered her his hand. "If I may, my lady?" "All I have to do is lead her out, and all will be well."

Elvira looked over at William, who seemed to be contemplating about something. When he extended his hand, she looked at it for a moment. What was she supposed to do? She thought frantically back to her "princess lessons" and what to do when a gentleman offers you his arm. You take it! She snapped to herself in her thoughts stupidly, angry at herself for not realizing such a simple thing. So she carefully placed her hand in his. "Where to next, Will?" She needed her entire Royal Guard to be ready for what was about to happen; they all needed to be on point.

William quickly led the princess outside. As the balcony gave way altogether the entire castle shuddered. "This will probably be for the best...there's nowhere inside the castle that'll be safe." The guards had followed the two out of the building, not uttering a word. "You men stay here, make sure nothing happens to her majesty." William turned on his heels waiting for her majesties protest, but strode back towards the castle at a brisk pace. "I'll be back, I must make sure someone is notified of what happened."
With that, William was back inside the castle. "Now...where was his majesties quarters? The residence of the commander of the guards? I need a map..."

Elvira-Esperanza of Candule stood in plain sight outside and she knew it. She didn't want to be the target of a perfect assassination, but she did have to admit that it was well planned. The balcony would have easily given way underneath her before, had William not pulled her back. She found herself give a slight smile at the thought of Will, her most loyal guard an friend. Elvira ha spent a lot of time with him because she was constantly needing protection or trying to help with battle tactics, but she was more than a nuisance. All she ever managed to do, was get in peoples way and cause innocents to die. Because of her. Because she was the weak child that needed to be protected at all costs, who couldn't protect herself. She shook her head, clearing the memory from her mind before she asked one of the guards around her where they were going.

"Clack, Clack"
The young commander's footsteps echoed in the empty hall. After the strange episode of the balcony, the residents must have realized that something was up. "Now where was it? A left here? William turned the corner at a brisk pace, almost colliding with a servant carrying a few garments of clothes. The servant looked at the commander wide-eyed, but before she could continue on her way, William stopped her. He must've surprised her, as she jumped quite noticeable when he acknowledged her.
"Excuse me, do you by chance know where His Majesty resides?" The servant quickly stuttered out a response.
"Um, his majesty may be found just left at the end of this corridor my lord."
"Thank you" The two walked away from each other at a brisk pace. William followed the path that the servant had designated and turning the corner, found the enormous doors towering above him. This was it, that was definite. But how would he find a way to speak with the king? He couldn't just barge in, no that may end in a horrid outcome.
Luckily for the young man, there was a guard standing just outside of the grand doors. William cleared his throat. "May I speak with the King please?" The guard seemed to be in his mid-fourties, a veteran no doubt. The man eyed William's many ribbons and medals, but remained oblivious.
"And you sir, would be?" the guard tried his best to keep the "I am a part of the Royal Guard" sort of haughty manner. But it would be deflated soon. William took of his hat and bowed as he spoke.
"Commander William Andrews of the Royal Navy at your service." The guard jumped with astonishment, his name was quite well known, even to those in the ground forces.
"Oh! Of course sir! Please excuse me." The guard cracked open the door and spoke a few words. And in a matter of moments, he was walking down the aisle towards his greatness.

Elvira looked at the guard in front of her. He was tall, with a neat cropping of blond hair and a pale complexion. He was also extremely young, too young to be in her guard, she thought. "I'm sorry. My thought rather escape me sometimes. What is your name again? I don't think I have seen you around the castle a lot." Or at all, she thought. She didn't know what was going on as William had rushed off without a word and her guard wouldn't tell her. Even still, they seemed to show a bit of discomfort, a bit of wariness, caution. Elvira took that as a weakness, a way to get what she wanted from them. She had to be a queen. "You there! Come forward please. The man stepped gracefully forward. He was someone she had seen regularly, therefore he was also someone she knew she could trust.

Yes, your majesty. His voice was rather deep and she realized that she had never heard any of the guard actually speak before to her directly. It was always in hushed tones to the commander or themselves. They were people too though, and she had to take that into account as well.

Elvira glanced up at the man's face, then out the window, then back at the unnamed man. "There re very serious matters at hand and I am wary of seeing for myself what it might be. Could you perhaps check outside for me?" Her gaze suddenly shifted so that her eyes were on the first guard, the one she hadn't seen much of. When he didn't move, she said, "That's an order!"

His gaze met hers briefly and then a smirk spread across his face. He stepped out of line and took a few steps towards the balcony doors. Then he quickly turned around and, looking directly at the queen, shot a white-hot ball of fire. It hit the back wall of her room and suddenly the room exploded into action and chaos. Her guard didn't know what to do as they didn't suspect a traitor among their midst. Note to self to give them more training in traitor detection.

"Yes sire, I would suggest that your greatness would go somewhere safer for the moment until this is resolved." Without much protest, William managed to convince the King to go somewhere else for the time being.

"So we should stay at one of our more powerful forts then?" the King asked.

"Well that is what I would suggest. But of course your majesty along with your personal advisers will make the decision." That was when a runner came in. It was one of the guards William had left with the princess. To the young man's horror, the guard's armor was singed and blackened in various places.

"My apologies for interrupting his majesty's council, but it is of the utmost importance!"

"Oh no..." Grabbing a few random guards, the naval officer shot out of the room. The group of men sprinted, full speed to where the princess was left. William drew his saber and pistol, pulling the hammer to full cock. "Do not worry my lady, I will arrive shortly."

The Princess started to back away from the mole within their midst, but he kept advancing. Soon, she was backed up against the wall with no other place to go. Probably not the best strategy on her part, but it was her instinct. Luckily, she had a small amount of fighting training of her own. She knew that it was close-quarters combat and since she didn't have an actual weapon, she would have to use her hands and feet. She stepped forward slightly, twisted around and dug the heel of her foot into the base of his right foot. She knew that that was the best way to immobilize an enemy quickly enough, though it would hold him for long. The foe doubled over, which was a perfect opportunity for her to quickly slam her forearm down into the side of his neck. He crumpled to the ground quickly, but was soon back on his feet. Man, this guy is persistent! She thought as she tried to figure out her neck attack move. Luckily, she didn't have to because he was already taking a swipe at her cheek when she looked up. Skin connected to skin and a flash of white hot pain coursed through her. She quickly prayed to God for protection and safety of her and her men. She didn't really feel like dying just yet.

William arrived on the scene just in time to see a man land a wicked right hook on the princess herself. "Let's see how well you do when we even up the odds you b*stard!" He yelled firing his pistol. The foe was caught completely by surprise, and was hit square in the back by the round before he could move. By the time the rest of everyone arrived, the attacker had already slumped to the ground.
The guards had reacted poorly, most still remained frozen in fear. Luckily the one who had some sense had alerted them so quickly. "Looks like the Royal Guard will need some additional training exercises. Or maybe their training needs to be re-written..." William thought. That was when the thought hit him. "The princess!" The young officer rushed to her side. "Oh my...do you feel alright? Someone get some ice!"
It was all his fault, he should've found somewhere safer to keep the princess. Now she was injure because of his ignorance.

The princess looked around deftly. When she spotted William walking towards her, in was through a blurred sheen, almost as if she was underwater. She blinked furiously at the un-shed tears forming under her eyes, trying to focus on him. But she couldn't. She reached up to her cheek and felt a long gash from her cheekbone to her jaw line. When she took her hand away, blood was covering her fingers. She knew she was going to faint even before she officially blacked-out. She took one last look at the world and then felt herself falling forward. You see, her cut wasn't as bad as yu may think. It was the fact that she hated the sight, taste, or even smell of blood. Seeing it on her hand is what made her faint.

Oh how things had unfolded in a most unfortunate matter. First an assault by some wind beholder, and know an infiltrator in their very own ranks? The princess was tooken away to be cared for, and there was much damage assessment to be done by the young officer. He would check on the princess the first chance he received, but for now there was much to be done.

Luckily, no one pinned any criticism on William yet. Everyone was still submerged in shock, but sooner or later there will be opposition. Some will say he made an incompetent decision to leave the princess outside with nothing but a few guards. But for William, that seemed to be one of the only choices at hand, with the castle under attack and all.

At least the doctor said her injuries were only minor, and that she is perfectly fine aside from some psychological trauma. William snapped himself back to the present as he supervised the lower ranking Royal Guard officers making their damage assessments along with a few notes.
