Yet that was not all. The room was also filled with a beautiful melody by the white grand piano. That person who played the tune was the long white haired girl Angel Blood-Rose, the mysterious quiet girl of the Academy. Her powerful red eyes focused on the delicate keys, while her fingers gracefully pressed the correct sequence. She weared a long silk white dress with a red belt as well her trademark black bow on the top of her.
Eventually he had finished his food and juice before standing up and throwing it away in one of the garbage cans. Afterwards he had decided to try his hand at dancing since it was the perfect time with the perfect atmosphere and music, he was not the worst dancer but not a good dancer either, he was just below avarage at best when it came to dancing. He would accidentally trip on his own foot nearly causing him to fall down, or almost bump into someone else. Eventually his skills got slightly better and almost stopped tripping on his own foot.
"A meeting... a beautiful meeting that would make it easier to approach someone..." Abigail thought.
She had to take advantage of it, as approaching a stranger for a chat at an event seemed easier, more casual and more natural than doing it in the school yard or the hallways.
"The white haired girl is playing a wonderful music, people are enjoying the food, or are dancing, everybody seems to be in a good mood. Now what?" she thought, as her big green eyes were quickly playing around the ball room. She squeezed her long blue dress in her fists, as her body fidgeted. Abby knew she shouldn't be waiting for someone else to approach her, as just standing there doing nothing would be worse.
"Okay, Abby. Nobody will bite you. Most likely they won't tell you to go away. There is a possibility that you'll actually start a good conversation. Maybe even you'll be able to maintain it! You'll make at least one friend here and now, then it will be much easier. Go, Abby! You're a lion!" the girl thought and nodded in determination. She once again examined the ballroom until her eyes stopped on a Japanese green-haired boy.
"He looks cheerful. He's probably outgoing enough to do his part in a conversation." Abigail thought and quickly groomed her blond twin tails before going near him.
"Hi." she greeted the boy with a smile.
"Okay, Abby. You said hi. Good job! Now wait for his reaction. Wait... I talked to him while he was dancing. Is it acceptable to interrupt someone else's dancing? Maybe I should dance too? Okay, maybe I should lift my arm as a dance move... No! Why did I lift my arm? That was stupid! Take it down, stand still! That's it. Just wait for his response." she though.
Having taken refuge lounging in the branches of a tree she could see into the building just fine. She lazily popped food into her mouth as she observed, wondering what all the fuss was about. There had been school dances in Texas of course but they were far from the grand affair this one turned out to be. It really didn't interest her. Too many people and far too fancy.
Still, as her plate started to run empty she had to consider the idea of going inside for her. She was likely too under dressed though, in her tattered jean shorts and MEGADETH t-shirt. If she was lucky she could wait it out and take another plate of food from some other poor unfortunate soul. That was a more likely scenario than her ever putting on a dress.
"Guess the music's okay at least."
"Anyways, to make this less awkward for both of us, my Name is Tazuki Kaito so may I have the pleasure to know your name? Of course you don't have to answer, it's just that my family is so formal about names that I became accustomed to things like that." He then laughed a bit.
The Principal stood by the stage and took the microphone. He cleared his throat and waited for a few seconds to grab everyone's attention.
Angel froze from the call of her name, her face flashed to fear from the sight of the huge crowd. Nevertheless, her emotionless look returned as quick as it had disappeared. Taking graceful steps to the stage, the principle placed the Mic and lowered it to her shorter height. Her red eyes fluttered closed, took a breath before opening them again.
Compared to his tutors this school was much more of a stressful experience. There were just so many people and the academy was an endless maze, almost like a mini city of its own. Halls lead to more halls and the number of rooms seemed infinite. Even this one room that hosted this grand banquet had a ceiling that stretched higher than the young man could even fly, that was an exaggeration but it was probably the largest building the boy had ever seen.
Then there was the food and drinks. His tastes were not extravagant but the multitude of different layers combined with complex flavors, were foreign to his tongue. Not that he had much to complain on as he thought, it was just different; he was not used to diverse cultures.
What frightened him the most was the people. Humans and creatures all gathered in these halls mingling, talking and becoming friends with one another. The principal was very bold into thinking that they would not eat each other, not that the case has happened yet, he just found it awkward and bizarre-it was noisy as well.
He tugged at the button of his white blouse at a couple passing his vision, hand in hand. How were they not embarrassed with their shameless behavior? Jeong’s emerald eyes lingered on them for a moment with his one eyebrow raised before turning his gaze back to the open leather cover with words depicting of different stories on his lap. At least the library was big; it was one of the best assets to the academy.
Jeong’s reading was interrupted with the fuzzy patting of the mic as the principal started the ceremony off with a welcome speech. He shut his book hiding it to his side unconsciously as he stood up scooting towards the stage a little to get a better look. He watched as a young looking girl with bright white hair proceeded to the stage. She was very pretty and the name the principal introduced her as, Angel, suited her well.
"Angel Blood-Rose? What an interesting name. It has angels, blood and roses..." Abby thought. Once Angel started speaking, Abby quickly crossed her arms, as her hands were touching her biceps.
Abigail stood still for several seconds after the end of the speech, until she quickly snapped out of it.
"Oh, yes, my name!" she turned back to Tazuki. "Uuh, my name is Abigail Levitz. How about yours?"
Immediately after finishing her sentence, Abby placed her hand on her forehead.
"Yeah, yeah, right, I know. Tazuki. It's Tazuki. Wait, should I call you by your first name or your last name?" she asked.
After the speech had ended, the girl who was talking to him looked at him and told him her name. Afterwards she wanted to know if she could call him by his first name or last name, he responded with,"You can call me by my first name if you want, but it it's nice to meet you Abigail, or should I address you with your last name?" he asked.
"He acknowledges very well how socially inept am I and decides to joke with it. Is he trying to make fun of me, or to make me lighten up? Maybe both? Am I really that bad in front of new people? He looks Japanese and his name sounds Japanese. They address one another with their sur... Okay, I should stop overanalizing and reply. I was silent for several long moments."
"Call me Abby if you want." she smiled once again. "I'm new at this school, so... yeah... you know... meeting new people! Heheh..." she swifted her fist and chuckled. "Excuse me for a moment. she said and started walking further.
"Did I really just do the fist motion? Wait... Did I just walk away after this? Get a hold on yourself, woman! You'll take some food or a drink and go back there! You managed to start a conversation and you'll leave everything? Stop being such a baby!"
Abigail's walk was interrupted by a sudden trip and a painfull fall on the face. She kissed the ground right in front of a short and quiet boy with black hair and bright green eyes.
At least the speech was brief. He thought little about the content. It seemed just like any other speech presented at anniversaries other than the slightly different comparisons to life. The girl on stage seemed to have left in quite a hurry as she disappeared right off the stage as soon as her speech was done. Having no other announcements or commentary available for the hearing, the students went back to conversing and eating. The boy believed that he should not loiter around the area less he wanted to be a stick in the mud against all the dancing that would be resumed.
Suddenly a swirling bond of bananas teleported in front of him-they were not bananas but rather a flurry bright blond hair separated into two tails on either side of a head. He would never admit to anyone that he saw bananas in her hair for they were far from the truth. It was a girl that had fallen right into front of him. With one arm he hid his little book of horror stories behind his back.
Jeong recalled a moment with his tutors who had taught him the means of courteous behavior towards women, elderly and just anyone in general. He never really had the need to use such generous actions. The servants took care of the old and their own wellbeing as well as any injuries and such, seeing as this is not a place with servants other than the cooks, cleaners and occasional party servants this was probably the right moment to display these actions.
It took him a moment to process everything before he got down on his knee and extended a helping free hand to the fallen girl. “Are you alright miss?” he inquired with a curious look.
Was she just clumsy or had she been swooning after what looked like a short conversation with the Asian kid? Then to fall right at the feet of another boy. "Hnhn, better get it together girl," she mumbled to herself in amusement. Hands behind her head she decided to watch a little longer.
After that conversation, Abigail had excused herself for the moment and he watched for a moment before he couldent see her anymore with the other students in the way. He decided to practice some foot movements until she returned, he also wanted to practice so next time he could dance like a pro, or at the very least not trip over himself ten times in under two minutes. As he practiced he began to think to himself,"Maybe this year will be an interesting year, we will just have to see."
"I'm fine!" she chanted before two massive blood streams started falling off her nose. "No, really! I'm fine!" she covered her nose, as her hand quickly turned red. She then went away. At first Abby was walking quickly, but her steps were speeding up.
"Where's the bathroom? I should ask someone for the bathroom! I'll ask the nearest person I see!" she thought and stopped.
"H-hello!" she spoke with both of her hands over her lower part of her face.
"Isn't that... the girl who played the piano and gave the speech? Reading? Wow, I interrupt people a lot tonight, don't I?" Abigail thought.
"I'm s-sorry! It's nothing bad, really. I just want to know where is the bathroom." she spoke to the white haired girl.
It was a strange-though nothing quite so peculiar happened in Jeong’s life, most of it was rather predictable. But this really took the cake. People tripped all the time but it was not just a regular nose bleed. With so much blood he had expected her to faint and yet she still had enough energy to race away. For a few minutes he watched her movements as drops of blood dripped on to the ground as she looked terribly confused before making her way over to the white haired girl for assistance.
Was this normal?
For a few more moments he attempted to make sense of the situation then feeling that he probably would not see the girl again, as the school was massive decided he needed a drink and some fresh air. One hand on his book he took a small glass of apple juice from a waiter and walked outside to the less crowded balcony.
Upon feeling the cool night breeze through his air he noticed a figure seated atop a tree branch. A custom for some species or race, perhaps? Jeong could not help but feel himself stare at the conspicuous female in casual clothes. What caught his eye the most was the array of feathers within her ponytail. He was not sure of whether to feel a sense of hostility towards the usage of birds in such a way or in awe of the female’s courage to be seen outside of the norm of societal party life.
Jeong knew that staring was rude but he could not quite help it. His eyes would trail down to his drink then move back to see whether the female was still sitting in the tree. The feathers, attire, attitude and the strange markings on her face made him oh-so-very curious.
As Jeong turned his gaze back on the girl in the tree she was moving and in fact jumping, her tone athlete's body carrying her easily enough to the balcony she was being observed from. Any looks of surprise or irritation were ignored or, for one poor girl, answered with a growl. Once her feet were firmly on solid ground she pulled at the bottom of her shirt to adjust it.
"Looks like you're all dressed up for the party, want to go back in there and get me some food?"
She was very tall-much taller than he had expected when she was sitting on the tree branch as she stood over top of him now. His shiny green eyes needed to be raised a bit upward just to look at her. He withheld a blank gaze. A bit deeper down within him a thought floated about, “it must be nice to be tall.” That thought vanished as soon as she addressed him.
“Looks like you’re all dressed up for the party, want to go back in there and get me some food?”
Did he look like a servant? No, she had mentioned the whole ‘dressed’ up part. Then she was ordering him to do something? A complete stranger! Well, the environment around here had to be pretty civil if strangers can ask other strangers to do chores for them. It is not like anyone has been killed yet, hopefully.
He placed the now empty glass that he had drained on to a nearby stand. There were waiters and people walking around so they would get his cup eventually.
“Wouldn’t it have been easier to get food if you had dressed up a little?” he innocently inquired. Although he would not exactly be considered THAT dressed; he had the idea to skip the whole mingling and the chatting but because that would be rude since it is the school’s anniversary, he threw on a white blouse and some clean black pants and shoes. It was nothing compared to the some people who had decked out.
If she wasn't going to be getting any more food it might be a good time to head off. Physical violence or the threat of it wouldn't do much good in this situation. Too much effort for someone she probably wouldn't interact with again. "Well, whatever."
"Thanks to her it's a little less urgent." the blonde thought with a smile.
"You helped me a lot. Thank you," she spoke once again and looked to her right.
"Oh, the bathroom. There it is, let's go there. Don't bump into people that much." she thought while walking.
"So far I kinda have sucess... kinda. Maybe I should have introduced to the girl properly, she might turn out to be a good friend. Well, to be fair, I painted myseld all in red, so I had to go quickly. Ugh, I hope it will go away before I go home. I don't want my parents to see me like that... they'll go crazy..." she thought while washing herself.
Abigail went out of the bathroom with the handkerchief stuffed in her nose, as her left arm was lifted upwards.
"I should also come back to Tazuki too. He probably thought I was weird, or offended... or both. I must fix that, because he might turn out to be a good friend too. What to do next? I better go outside first and wait for the nasal waterfall to stop. I should think in the meantime... I hope I won't miss my chances..."
After some time alone outside the ball, Abby went back, ready for round 2.
"Whoever I see first. I'll go with the flow. I might start talking to more people... but I already talked to those two, so it would be easier if I focus on them so far." she thought. "Ah!"
"Hey, Tazuki! Er, sorry for my sudden and long departure. I really needed to use the bathroom... Ah, uh, not that, it's because there was blood... Well, forget what I just said, soo hello again! Hey, perhaps we're in the same year! By the way, are you familliar with that girl, Angel?" she spoke to him.
