Name: Jacqueline Thuron
Age: 45
Occupation: Innkeeper
Role: Cook
Nationality: French, though the accent is hard to make out.
Personality: Jacqueline has a stubborn streak longer than the grey ones in her hair. She’s not grown soft despite the years away from the life of a pirate, but if you’re broke and in need of a meal she’ll let you work it off. She’s been known to break up fights with a frying pan or an old (but polished) sabre, and has no qualms using either of them, as many regulars would tell you. She loves her niece dearly and would go to the ends of the earth for her, letting nothing stand in her way. There are precious few others that she’d be willing to go out on a limb for.
She adores cooking and sword fighting, though she has horrible aim with a pistol as she’s not used one in years. Hasn’t lost her edge when it comes to melee; she’s got a good amount of stamina and a quick hand. Can actually swim.
You have to earn the right to call her anything other than Ms. Thuron. And she hates being disrespected.
Likes:
Cooking: It’s been her one safe haven since she was little. There’s a good reason she never lets anyone into her kitchen. It’s the only thing she knows she can control, and that's comforting.
Her niece: The only family she has left. The teen is Thuron’s pride and joy. Harm her, and you’ll have Thuron’s wrath upon your head.
Swordfighting: Despite the years, it's still second nature. Her saber is merely an extension of herself. She loves it almost as much as cooking.
Waltzing: Jacqueline wasn't always a single woman, though she might lead you to believe that. She loves to dance, especially waltzes. The flow reminds her of a time when she loved sailing and was young and happy. Better times.
Dislikes:
Having anyone else in her kitchen: Do not. Just don't. She can fight up and down about why no one is allowed in the kitchen while she’s working. It's not worth arguing over because she is more than prepared to make you suffer via food.
Thunder: Surprisingly enough, Jacqueline is deathly afraid of thunderstorms. Too many late nights spent by herself at a young age with no one to comfort her took a toll. She still freezes up if she hears thunder.
Disrespect: She certainly believes that respect has to be earned, but if you disrespect her in her home or kitchen she will end you. She has little tolerance for a lack of respect.
The navy: Kind of a given, though the loss of her brother certainly didn't help. She can spot even ex navy a minute away, and would keep them out of her inn if she could help it.
Sailing: This wasn't always the case. Thuron used to love the water, love the life that went along with pirating. You lose too many ships, too many loved ones, well, you begin to resent it. It would take hell to get her to set foot on a ship again...
Appearance:
Hair: Dark blonde hair with streaks of silver and grey
Eyes: Navy
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 160 lbs
Clothing: When not in her inn, wears a long coat reaching to her ankles. Wears a comfortable undershirt, trousers, and thick boots, with her hair tied back. In the inn, she braids her hair and trades the trousers for a long, flowy skirt. Tends towards darker blues and greens in her outfits.
Bio:
Jacqueline’s father was primarily the reason she turned to cooking in the first place: it’s hard to care for a younger sibling when the only adult in the house is drunker than a skunk and abusive as well. At age 12, she was doing all the cooking in the house and taking care of her baby brother Maximo, as well as working at the local brothel (though not as a prostitute, only as a cook for the workers and patrons.) By the time she turned 19, Thuron could cook nearly anything, and had a laundry list of reasons for her contempt for men. After a huge fight with her father and some men at her work, she hightailed it out of there on a pirate ship and began her sailing career.
Soon she sailed as cook on a craft called the Screaming Serpant, misspelling and all. She grew rather close to the crew, particularly the first mate and navigator. They sailed for several years, with Jacqueline honing her skills both in the kitchen and on the deck. Her swordfighting skills quickly soared to match many men and spell their end as they underestimated her. She gained a rep as ‘the serpent’s teeth’ due to her poisonous remarks and sharp saber skills. But, she had too many close calls with both herself and her crew, so she settled down to work as a cook for an inn (the same one she later came to own.)
By some force or another, she reunited with her younger brother, though not by her doing. She relented to his demands and sailed with him as her captain, but it was not meant to be. Her brother lost his life at the hands of the Royal Navy, and Thuron nearly almost lost hers. She narrowly escaped with her life, and that of her niece’s, who had stowed away on board. Jacqueline ended up taking custody of Angelique, who now helps her run the inn, along with an older local named Bertie. It’s become rather popular since Thuron took it over, with the increase in food quality and in brawls as well. It’s a great place to blow your coins on well made food and a safe stay, and is known often to harbor pirates if/when the navy blows through.
Other: Can make nearly anything other than escargot. If you like living, don’t ask her to make it. You will regret it. Is a strangely strong swimmer, despite being a pirate.
Escargot!
