Nikki Devan

"Hey, cheer up! Not everyone thinks you're an idiot!"

0 · 227 views · located in Ontario Mills Mall

a character in “MallRats”, as played by TheMuffinMan

Description

Nikki Devan | 18 | Sam Ash Music |

Image

Nikki is one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. It’s almost impossible to see her without a smile on her face. She’ll talk to anyone , even if you’re a jerk. People who know her trust her, people who don’t know her just end up telling her things they haven’t told anyone else before. It’s just something about her that makes a person feel like she cares and will listen to you, without judging, no matter what. The few times that she is in a bad mood or she is upset, she tries not to take it out on other people and always feels terrible afterwards, even if nobody noticed. She is a fan of squealing and bears.

Monkey Sluts (aren't they the worst?)

So begins...

Nikki grinned broadly at everyone she passed as she made her way through the halls. She had lost her watch in her room somewhere and so she had no idea what the time was. She passed store after store, lost in her own thoughts for a minute. She finally reached Sam Ash and was about to fish out her keys when she realised that they were already open. She cheerily pushed the doors open and walked in.

"Morning Jude!" she called upon spotting him. She walked over to the counter and dumped her bag on the floor at her feet, deciding that she would do something with it later.
"So, you excited to start the day?" she asked, checking on the instruments. She bounced one finger off a guitar case and smoothed off a thin layer of dust that had collected over-night. She smiled at the sight of all the instruments sitting in their little places.

"Morning Jude!" The blonde smiled and looked up from pretending to be doing work. Nikki always brightened the day. If the sun ever died out, which wasn't supposed to happen for awhile as far as he knew, she could easily replace it. He smiled kindly in return, happy to see her and not have to wait out the day alone or with idiots. "So, you excited to start the day?" she asked after throwing her bag on the floor.

It annoyed him a bit. He liked everything being in perfect shape, but as long as she moved it he promised himself he wouldn't freak out. "Yeah, I'm excited. I'm surrounded by music and wandering teens. What could be better?" There was a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Jude wasn't very fond of 'mallrats' that just roamed about during the day. Some day, hopefully soon, they'd find out what it was like to be behind the counter instead of teasing it.

Harper sighed and put her phone back in her pocket. Nobody was in the store yet, so she figured other employees could cover for her while she went to get some breakfast. In her rush this morning, that was one thing she forgot. She mentioned to a fellow worker named Valarie that she was going to the food court and she agreed for covering her for a little bit. Harper smiled in thanks and skipped out the door. She hummed on the way to the rather large food court of Ontario Mills Mall.

Harper's eyes scanned the different vender restaurant places and she decided on a blueberry muffin and a white chocolate mocha from Starbucks. Sounded good enough. She went up to the line and when it was her turn, ordered her 'meal' with a friendly smile. While she waited, she was looking around at the employees of a variety of stores who were getting to work late. She thought that the mall ma open in ten or fifteen minutes. Who knew?

On the way back to H&M, she decided to stop by and say hi to some of her friends in Sam Ash. She sipped her coffee and poked her head around the corner and looked at the counter. "Knock knock!" she chirped. The energetic girl hopped over a bit so instead of just her head around the corner, her whole body was there. She took a bite of muffin and then a swig of mocha. "G'morning!" she added on with a smile. The reason she got along with Nikki so well was because they had the same kind of perky attitude. Except, she's never seen Nikki be mean to anybody... and if you say the wrong things around Harper, well, not so much... Harper will either defend herself, or others. And you do not want her for an enemy, let alone be on her bad side.

Nikki grinned at Jude and bounced back to the counter.
"It's not so bad. They're all really nice people when you get to know them! Plus being surrounded by music is always a bonus," she said with a slight laugh, picking her bag up when she remembered Jude's like for order. She skipped through the door into the staff area and hung her bag up on one of the pegs provided. She walked back through into the store and made a popping noise with her mouth.
"So, everything in order? We all ready to start a bright new day?" she asked cheerily as Harper poked her head through the door.
"Knock, knock!" Nikki smiled at Harper, glad to see that someone was happy.
"Morning Harper!" Nikki yelled, laughing slightly. She pulled out a stool that she kept behind the counter and plonked herself down.

Isabella ran through the mall, not paying attention to anything else. If she didn't get her shirt in time, she'd end up having to wear somebody else's or having to buy a new one. Buying a new one would mark the third time that month. "I'm dead," she mumbled to herself as she turned a corner.

Almost immediately she hit somebody else, crushing the foam coffee cup between her and the other person. Hot, dark liquid (which smelled incredible) dripped onto her hand and then onto the floor. The red head bit her lip and took a step back, shifting the remnants of the drink to her other hand and shaking her left hand, trying to get the coffee off of it. "I'm so sorry," she said hurriedly, looking at Anabelle with a panicked expression. "I was trying to get to my car and I wasn't watching where I was going."

Jude laughed a bit and pretended to be organizing some papers. "I guess so," he commented. It was then that he noticed they were blank and oddly sticking together. A bit disgusted, he tossed them in the waste basket just as somebody came in and Nikki asked him a question. "Knock, knock!" a voice called happily, leading Jude to fool himself into thinking Nikki had a twin sister. But it was only Harper.

"Hi Harper," he said quietly in comparison to Nikki's bright 'good morning'. He didn't mind Harper, but this much noise in the morning was a bit troubling for him. It was also bugging him that she was so close. Speaking of which, was she really sitting on the counter like it was nothing? Jude did his best not to twitch and sat down on his stool.

"We just got here. Not that much changes in a matter of..." he looked at his wrist, forgetting that he didn't own a watch. "Er- twelve or so hours?" He wasn't exactly sure how long it had been since he'd seen either of the girls, though he guessed it was sometime after his shift yesterday.

Harper grinned and hopped off the counters and walked around the store, unable to contain herself and her interest any longer. She looked at the many different CD's and instruments and every now and then she would turn around and ask one of them, "Oooh, is this one new?" or maybe "...this is so cool!" Knowing how OCD-ish that Jude was, she was careful not to move anything or misplace something. But she did have to take a rather nice acoustic guitar off a rack and strum a few chords experimentally. Her little leather bound notebook was in her purse stowed away in a little area she had for herself back in H&M. That is where she kept all of her songs, her original songs. Then, a few chords and notes just clicked in her head and she played them a few more times and reminded herself mentally to write them down later. Although, being Harper, she would forget.

At Jude's answer she shrugged and put the guitar back carefully. "Good point." she said and skipped on back over to the two. "I wihs I worked here. You guys are so lucky." she said and frowned, peering over her shoulder at all of the musical stuff. Then the frown was replaced by another bright grin and she bounced on her toes, waiting for one of them to say something. Although Harper ould talk all day, she'd rather have them talk.

Nikki simply smiled at Harper and settled down. She glanced quickly down at her watch, remembering that people actually did come in and buy things so it was necessary to be ready for customers. She stared at her wrist for a little bit too long as it dawned on her that she was not wearing a watch. She smiled slightly at her own stupidity and tore herself away from her thoughts with a snap, remembering that she was not, in fact, alone.
Nikki watched with slight amusement as Harper admired their latest wares. Her eyes slid sideways slightly and she realised with a shock that people were milling around outside.
"We are indeed lucky to work here, but we won't be working here much longer if we don't get some customers! Go on now, out with you, or you won't have a job either," She teased lightly, jumping up to usher Harper from the store.
"If you really want to stay, you'll have to be a good little citizen and not disturb the customers," she said in a firm voice, although the effect was ruined by the bright smile on her face. She turned back to Jude.
"Did you need to get anything ready before anyone comes in?" she asked, smoothing her hair back in a distracted fashion.

Harper pouted and then sighed. "Fiiiine. I have to get back to work too." she gave in and skipped out, waving hello to people who began to file into the music store.

By the time she made it back, her boss gave her a little glare.

"Bolt. Where were you." it was more of a demand than a question and she winced, looking down at her feet, remembering sh left her coffee at the music store.

"I, uh, er...." she said softly, not like to be yelled at. "...I was getting something to eat." she squeaked and looked up with her big, chocolate brown eyes.

The Boss narrowed his eyes. He wasn't the nicest of people and he muttered something nasty under his breath, making Harper wince. "This is the second time this month," he started. Sorry that I'm freaking ADD, she thought. It was true though, she got distracted by the simplest things. "...and we cant afford to have you gone anymore. Sorry, but you will have to find another place to work." he stated and took the lanyard from around her neck. Harper opened her mouth the protest but got shut up by an angry look and she frowned, tears welling in her eyes and she pivoted on her heel and walked out. Harper has never gotten fired from anything. Never. Wasn't her fault she was sensitive too.

Harper made her way back to Sam Ash and had a dejected look on her face. "I spoke to soon." she mumbled quietly and plopped down on an open stool.

Jude watch Harper cautiously, hoping she wouldn't break anything. Before he knew it though, Nikki was shooing her out. Harper left with fewer words than Jude had expected. He turned his attention to Nikki as she walked back over. "Nope, I have everything set up. Did Harper put the guitar back right?" He leaned on his stool, trying to see and nearly fell off.

He grabbed onto the counter for dear life and sat back up, embarrassed. "Uh, that didn't happen." He smiled and laughed, opening the register and closing it. Open, close, open, close...

Harper entered then. Jude looked up in confusion and noticed her grim expression. Instead of feeling anxious yet excited, he felt a bit more negative. Her face had fallen, making him frown as well. "What happened?" he asked, turning his head to look at her.

Nikki glanced over to where Harper had been examining the instruments.
"I'm sure she wouldn't be so inconsiderate as to mess up your neat system," she declared cheerily, watching the door Harper had just left though absently. Still no customers. Oh well, it was too early to assume it was going to be a slow business day. Most days no one really started coming in until around lunch time, probably because they got a lot of teenagers in their store and most of them seemed to be sleeping during the early hours. Nikki had a brief panic attack as she thought about the possibility of her not turning off her stove before she realised that she hadn't even used it in the past week. No, the most useful piece of kitchen equipment was her microwave. God bless the microwave.
She glanced over as Jude wobbled precariously on his stool.
"Of course it didn't," she replied with a bright sunny grin. Jude was absolutely adorable, although she did worry about him sometimes. She hadn't seen him with a girl yet, although she was positive that soon he would have girls' swooning after him as he was extremely nice. Then again, Nikki had also been at a loss as to why her ninety something grandfather had been single when he died. And he had been a convicted felon.
Nikki looked up as Harper re-entered, looking quite down-cast.
"Harper! What happened?" she asked with concern, tilting her head and watching the girl from her seat. The door opened behind her as a customer trailed in.

Harper smiled brightly at Jude's suggestion. "Okay! Thanks!" she chirped and perked up more. "And I honestly couldn't care less if I made any money." she reassured him and blinked, hopping up. She stood there, bouncing on her feet once more, unable to contain her energy. She really shouldn't have had that coffee this morning.... Like she of all people needed it. She hummed quietly and waited for somebody to say something. Although she was a singer, her humming still had that unique and rather pretty flow to it, like silk. She grinned and awaited a response.
