"To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to come. But we'll get to that later. And as for the makeup, it's fine. I kinda like it, thinking about making it my everyday look," he said with a shrug and a smirk. He nodded at the mention of food, going to the fridge in question and digging out a chinese food container. "No, thank you, darling, this will do perfectly." It wasn't quite the standard of Lucian's preferred takeout place, but it still looked good.

He just rolled his eyes as Markus commented about sparkly things not working well for him. "You're such a freaking cliché, sweetheart. Your ability is darkness manipulation, that doesn't mean you have to stick to the shadows. Draw their eyes away from the shadows, boom, they don't see it coming. But I factored that in when making the mask. Go on, don't keep a man waiting, have a look," he said, starting to open random drawers in search of a fork.

At the mention of his side, Lucian's hand instinctively went to the area. "No. No new stitches needed. Bruising is definitely worse than usual and it hurts like a bitch, even with a heavy dose of painkillers, but luckily for you, I was wearing a shirt at work today and nobody noticed it." He exhaled, turning back around to lean against the counter. "For future reference, if you want to work with somebody in the future, don't hurl them out a window and literally drag them through the shadows. That landing hurt like hell, even with your shadow engulfing me. If I'd been prepared, I could have used my own ability to soften the landing. Be honest. If I'd thrown you out that window, would you have trusted me?" He asked. He let the question hang for a second, before pulling off his jacket.

"But I'm here for a tattoo and I'm going to get a tattoo. Did a bit of digging on your portfolio, and you're not bad, sunshine. I've got a sketch, do you think you could do it?" He asked, pulling up the sketch on his phone. It was rough, he'd done it in the back of the taxi between jobs. The word "changeling", with the g looping to end in a feather. "On my ribs, here." He said, roughly giving an area. If he'd had a choice, he would have had it on the other side, roughly where his wound was. On his injured side, a few inches above the wound, he had a birdcage that would have complemented it. But that side was much, much too painful to even consider having a tattoo on right now.

"So, can you do it?" He asked, digging into his leftovers.

Markus smirked as Lucian commented on his preference for not so shiny things, he was a cliche, but he hoped it wasn't as bad as he made it out to be? He shrugged it off and looked at the paper Lucian handed him, examining the design and where he wanted it, nodding slightly as he subconsciously bit his lip as he picture how it would look. "Yeah. I can do it. Yesterday I had to tattoo a woman's whole back, took longer than expected, but I got it done." he said as he began to eat some of the left over sushi that was in the fridge, as he placed the paper down on one of the tables by a chair.

"So, what I'm hearing is you stalked me to see if I lived up to what was said about me? And, what'd you think? Am I worthy of it?" he said with a grin as he began getting everything he'd need. "You also see why I work alone? I'm not...not exactly used to fighting with people, but I will take it easy on you...I apologize. If I have to pay for any medical Bill's, I will." he said as he finished getting the supplies for the tattoo that he would need, but before he sat down he walked over to where the box was and eyed it.

Markus then looked back at Lucian, "Sure this isn't just a bomb? Or a box gun to kill me?" he joked, and took a deep breath and slowly opened the box...To only reveal inside was indeed just a mask. It was a little more fancy than what he envisioned, but not as bad as it could have been considering who made it. Markus took it out of the box and examined it, "Thanks, Lucian. After last night, I thought you were gonna say 'fuck you' and never see me again. Not that I'd be upset, perfectly understandable. But, I'm glad that you're here..Well, took my offer anyway. Uhmm, whenever you're ready for the tattoo, sit down." Markus said as he quickly turned on his heels and began to prepare the tattoo needles and ink, feeling his face turn sight pink as what he said could have been taken another way, hopefully Lucian didnt take it too far out of context for him, as his social skills were severely lacking compared to Lucian's.

”Bitch, please, I googled you. Since I last saw you, I have made you that mask, spent my morning photographing a bunch of models, spent my afternoon being a model, and oh yeah, hacked into an extremely secure laptop. Does it sound like I have time to actually stalk you?” He asked, dodging the question about being worthy. As Markus started gathering the supplies, Lucian sat up onto one of the tables, wincing a little at the pull in his side. “You’re fine, darling, I have decent insurance and a ready supply of painkillers for obvious reasons.”

His reaction to the mask made Lucian smirk with satisfaction. His words just made the smirk linger, especially as Markus became a little flustered. If he’d owned it, Lucian would have been impressed, but the blush was just so honestly adorable that’s it made him chuckle and shake his head. “Honestly, darling, you’re too much,” he said, pulling off his shirt. “Seeing me shirtless twice in two days? It’s a good thing nobody knows, sweetheart, they’d be talking,” Lucian teased with a raised eyebrow, swinging his legs onto the table and lying down.

“On the subject of not coming back, most of the reason I’m here is because I need a favour. Well, this works in your interests too, so not really a favour. I got into the laptop. People need to learn to have these nefarious conversations in person, because oh, the details I found. Nothing concrete yet though. But, there’s a big ‘charity’ event coming up that some of the people involved will be attending. Ironic, considering they paid for certain heroes to go bye-bye. And unfortunately, I was asked weeks ago to model at the event, so I won’t be able to question these people directly or go snooping around the mansion. I do, however, have a plus one,” he said, looking at Markus. He looked him up and down, already forming a sketch in his mind. “I think my plus one might need a new suit though, there will be a red carpet, and we will need to look like a semi-solid unit. Which means co-ordinating outfits. Are you following me, sweetheart?” He asked.

He listened as Lucian began talking about the laptop and what he had found, a small chuckle came from him as Lucian practically confirmed him being searched. "I see a lot of people shirtless almost every day, it's nothing new for me. Not even all of them were male... " Markus said with a bit of a shudder, as an artist he has no right of saying no, so he has seen....many things.

"As for people talking. I doubt they would. There's nothing to talk about, but if they want to assume, let them. Doesn't bother me." he casually as he began to put on the black spandex gloves and watch as Lucian finally sat down. And after looking at the picture on the phone again, he began to clean off the side of where the tattoo would be, and after it was all sterilized, he began to work on the tattoo with a basic outline, making sure it was as detailed and flawless as Lucian would want. "So. What I'm hearing is, you need me to pretend to be your date to a mock event? And do what? Snoop around the best I can? And you sure you want it to be me? I'll do it, but as to why it'd be me exactly I am slightly confused. Seeing as you could choose anyone else, especially not someone of my supposed status."

"Oh no, the event is real, trust me, I've got to handle some of the preparations for the fashion show. And I think the charity is legit. But the people involved aren't," he explained. He just rolled his eyes as Markus asked why he wanted him. "You won't be going as Shadowfaux, you'll be going as Markus, the charming tattoo artist I met by complete chance and simply had to bring as my date. Your reputation shouldn't come into it, darling. And bringing a villain could tip somebody off that we're up to something. I'm assuming that they at least know who's who out of those of us who are still kicking. Two villains show up to a party, everyone immediately thinks they're going to pick everyone's pocket and burn the place down. A hero and a villain show up, nobody cares," he explained.

"As well as that, the vast majority of us have gone into hiding, trying to keep a low profile. And the only other person I know who might possibly be up for it... well, me and him have a little bit of... uncomfortable history. There's no way in here that he'd be seen in public with me, let alone work with me." In hindsight, they should have known it wouldn't have worked out. They were too different, and his ability of telepathy had been a sore point for Lucian. They had been an atom bomb waiting to go off. And one point, it did.

"I'll need your measurement for the tux. And are you opposed to bowties?" He asked, already sketching plans in his head. "I swear, I'll keep it subtle. If nothing else, this is the one time where standing out in a crowd might not work out too well. And also I don't want you stealing my thunder," he added with a grin. He could half see the beginnings of the tattoo, and he was impressed. Markus was keeping as close to the design as possible while cleaning it up and making it look more polished. "Tell me about your tattoos," he asked, suddenly curious about the tattoos he'd seen the night before.

Markus listened as he explained why he had chosen him as Lucian's plus one, picking someone that stayed out of the lime light and was slightly known for only being an amazing tattoo artist, would help keep things from escalating too quickly. It made sense, and he nodded his head as he listened, understanding the situation that would be at hand for them at this "event."

"I get it, pick someone less known and be able to get viable information without tipping anyone off or causing alarm until we make out getaway, or more preferably not at all. It makes sense." he said as he was now a third of the way done with the tattoo in its completed form.

Markus raised an eyebrow as Lucian how he asked about bow ties and if he liked them or not, and would need his measurements for the tux and everything to play the part. "Not used to getting dressed up, but I can deal with it I suppose, and sure. Bow ties are fine."

He was in full focus as he was getting to the end of the tattoo at this point, and looked up when Lucian asked about his tattoos. He had almost forgot that he ran out of the parlor the other night without his jacket, making his tattoos fully visible. Markus was hesitant to answer, seeing how one, the one of his arm being a rather touchy subject for him to talk about.

But eventually he sighed and nodded, might as well talk about it now he supposed, "The one on my life arm is just for simplicity sake, as well as I have an interest in ravens." he mentioned it casually as he indicated to the tattoo of the birds on his left arm. "I have one on my back, a pair of black and white angel wings. With the black wing slowly deteriorating, while the white one is mainly intact. Representation of duality as a hero, I guess. We're not all good in the reality of things. We all do things we're not proud of.." his voice lowered as he spoke, remembering back to his first human kill, he still had the nightmares of it almost every night.

"Lastly...The one on my right arm...It's in memory of my parents. The clock is meant for the times we spent together, and how I sometimes wish the time we had together was longer...And the Rose's signify that even in death, that there is life...At least that's what I see from it anyway.." Markus mumbled the last bit as he looked away, feelings of sadness and slight depression always arose when he spoke of his parents. He shook his head and cleared his throat, having finally finished the tattoo.

"A-anyway, there. It's done. Anything else that you want to add to it while I'm at it?"

Lucian listened as Markus told the story behind his tattoos, glad of a distraction from the discomfort of getting the tattoo. He resisted the temptation to roll his eyes at the story of duality. Heroes. Melodramatic, and that was coming from Lucian. You had to do what you had to do to survive. Survival was all that mattered in the end. Lucian's choices would be what defined him. The things he did to survive? A necessity. The things he did now, to feel alive? Well, they were what was going to send him to hell. But some people told him he was going there anyway, so he figured he may as well embrace it.

He was immediately glad that he hadn't rolled his eye or made any outward sign of disapproval when Markus told him about the last tattoo. For the first time, he looked away from Markus, staring at the ceiling. Loving parents. All Lucian had ever wanted was love. He'd never found it, not really. Glimpses, a trace of it in the air, a fragment grasped before it dissipated like smoke. And then at some point, he'd stopped really believing.

He was startled out of his thoughts as Markus told him he was finished, and he sat up to look at the tattoo in the nearest mirror. The differences in the tattoos just highlighted the differences in their lives. He cleared his throat. "It's... it's perfect," he said simply. He stared at it for a moment or two longer, before speaking again. "I was nine when my powers first emerged. I... used to... to be able to read minds. And that was the first to manifest, shortly followed by the telekinesis. My... My foster parents called me a changeling. They said I couldn't be human, that I was a monster. I wasn't supposed to hear, but when they met with my care worker to say they couldn't live with someone like me, they said they'd been promised a... 'normal' kid. Not a changeling. And now it's... who I am. A literal part of me," he said, not looking at Markus the whole time he spoke. Then he cleared his throat and reached for his shirt. "A sad story for a sad story. Don't expect it to happen again, darling," he said.

He let Markus cover the tattoo before he pulled on his shirt and picked back up his takeout box, still hungry. But he had only just done that when he heard a noise in the next room. "I thought you said nobody else would be here?" He asked quietly, looking over at Markus. Not an accusation, but a clarification. Because dear god, did he want it to just be one of Markus' coworkers.

Markus couldn't help but smirk when Lucian gave him nothing but praise for the tattoo if anyone were to believe it, it gave him a bit of a confidence boost to his skill as an artist, something he was passionate about yes, but not fully confident in his abilities. As Lucian said he was done for now with the tattoo, as he put his shirt back on and was beginning to eat the food again was a clear clarification that he was indeed done. Markus began to remove the gloves when Lucian spoke back up, talking about his own past, something Markus had done some investigating in and seeing how Lucian talked it was true, the stories he read and heard from the darkest corners of the city. He felt like a part of him could understand and even sympathize with Lucian, Markus began to open his mouth to speak when they both stopped in their tracks when a sound came from the front part of the parlor.

Markus looked at Lucian, then back at the entrance to the parlor, not seeing anyone else yet his stomach dropped. Who would be here? No one that he knew of, he even made sure that the door was locked, and made sure that no one would know someone was here. He slowly rose to his feet as he placed the tattoo pen down and began to slowly walk to the front, not making a sound as shadows slowly gathered below his feet, and a small dagger forming in his hand that was hidden behind his back.

When suddenly a tall, thin framed, short blonde haired woman with piercing blue eyes stepped in, she was wearing a black over coat with a dark gray scarf tied around her neck. Markus heart skipped a beat when he saw her. "Why am I not surprised that you're here, Markus?" the woman questioned with a sharp tone as she looked at him. Markus' hands began to become sweaty as he struggled with something to say.

"Are you gonna speak up or not? And put away your weapon, Markus, I just came here to check on my shop when I saw some lights on, again." she said with a sharp tone as she gave him a glare. Markus awkwardly shuffled on his feet when she spoke to him as if he was a kid, "Sorry, Molly. I got a sudden appointment and had to get it done, the client was a bit-" he began but was cut off quickly when the woman who was apparently named Molly put her hand to his mouth and stepped closer to Lucian.

"Lucian Mitchell? In the flesh? It's a pleasure to meet you!" she said with as she gave him a smile, Markus chuckled awkwardly as he nodded, "Yeah, he contacted me just a few hours ago and asked if he could have a private appointment." Molly looked at Markus when he said that, and gave him a raised eyebrow, "Oh? Is that so, Lucian?" she said as she turned and gave him a rather suggestive look, and a smirk in Markus' direction, who only stood there in shock at what she was trying to possibly imply.

Lucian took one look at Markus' reaction and readied himself for a fight, already searching for possible weapons. The initial response didn't do much to comfort Lucian either as it seemed a bit hostile. But then the woman spotted Lucian, and the atmosphere changed. She was clearly delighted, and Lucian returned the smile effortlessly, tossing his hair a little. Her response at Markus' explanation made keeping the expression a little harder, but he pulled it off.

"Molly, wasn't it? And yeah, that's actually what happened. I'd seen his work and I was just so impressed that I had to contact him. But I'm so busy with work that I had to come after hours, privately. I've got this massive charity event coming up, I'm modelling and designing for it, so I'm off my feet at the minute," he said. He walked right up to her, running a hand along the lapel of her coat. "Darling, I adore your outfit! It's so stylish, that scarf is fabulous with your eyes. Have you ever thought about modelling, sweetheart? You could kill on the runway." He gushed, before going back to sit on the nearest stool.

"So, Molly, darling, do you work with Markus here? Have you any stories you can tell me about him? I'm just dying to get to know him a little better, he just seems so wonderfully interesting. Oh god, we're not keeping you from anything, are we?" He asked. "I don't want to keep you here any longer than possible." He added, looking at his phone in mock shock.

Markus watched anxiously as Lucian and Molly conversed, knowing full well that Molly already knew that Markus himself was gifted, and probably knew that Lucian was as well seeing how she knew almost everything on anyone. But she only smiled when Lucian complimented her outfit. "Thank you, Lucian, I really am humbled to meet you. I hope that Markus here was able to give you one of the best tattoos you've ever had. And as for modeling, I have thought about it, only if you'd model some of our art, but that's only a suggestion." she said with a smile, then as she turned her expression changed when she looked at Markus.

"I will see you tomorrow, early as we'll need to talk. As for your question, Lucian. I have many, many stories about dear old Markus here, too many honestly. But I must be off, I only stopped by because I saw the lights on." she said as she gave Lucian one more smile, "And Markus, make sure to not make a mess of my store. If you're not out in fifteen minutes I'll be calling the police. Chao." Molly gave a wave of her hand as she left, the door closing behind her as she quickly left the two.

Markus finally exhaled sharply when she left, he though his head was going to explode during the whole confrontation. He slowly turned to Lucian as he spoke, "Well, you've met the boss and the owner of this place..She means well, just...very sharp. As well as she knows who I am, and who my parents were, it's why I have this job as a way of keeping me from causing trouble. But she is serious. She'll call the police if we dont get our asses out of here." Markus said as he quickly cleaned everything up and began to close the store down for the night.

Lucian managed to keep the charming persona up, but the minute he heard the door click shut, he rolled his eyes. “Well, she seems... pleasant,” he said drily, his tone indicating that he thought the complete opposite. But having seen Markus’ hurry to get out, Lucian followed his lead, pulling back on his coat and pulling the hood up over his hair. He found a random piece of paper and scribbled his number down on it, accompanied by a smiley face. “Text me your measurements ASAP and I’ll get working on your tux, okay darling? Keep your head down in the meantime, don’t draw any unnecessary attention to yourself, because it would be a pain in the ass to find someone else to do the dirty work,” he said with a beaming smile, before heading back out through the way he came in.

The next few days were quiet, and yet also insanely busy. It felt like Lucian hardly had time to breathe, let alone get up to anything nefarious. He wasn’t surprised when the gossip around him being seen alone with a tattoo parlour after hours with a guy started spreading. But given who he was, there was a lot worse that could be spreading. He just laughed it all off and showed off his new tattoo as best he could without also exposing the healing would on his side.

Lucian spent the day of the show in the venue. It felt like everything was going wrong and everything required his immediate attention. One of the makeup artists he knew had painted his nails black and treated them to stop him from biting them, because otherwise he couldn’t have had any left. But eventually, he managed to escape back to his apartment to finish getting ready. He wouldn’t have admitted it, but he was so stressed about the show that he honestly didn’t even care about whatever Markus was going to be up to. Markus’ suit had been anonymously dropped to the tattoo parlour, but Lucian had no idea whether or not he actually liked it. He just prayed the hero had the decency to wear it regardless of whatever he thought. He’d gone as subtle as he could, keeping the suit pretty traditional. The lining of the jacket had been silver, and he’d gone for a slightly transparent material on the sleeves to show off Markus’ tats. Silver buttons and a silver bow tie to match Lucian, and he’d left it pretty damn boring after that.

He’d changed his own outfit several times, but eventually he just had to be happy with it. He wouldn’t even be spending the evening in it anyway. He’d made himself dinner and had bought himself iced coffee on the way back to his apartment, but kept getting distracted from both as he kept checking his phone.

Markus nodded as Lucian left as he looked at the paper that he had just previously written something down on. Stuffing the paper into his pocket he cleaned the rest of the parlor up and left, with the next few days being hell for him. The following day he went into work Molly questioned why Lucian was really there and if it was as they said. Markus had done his best to assure her that it was a professional appointment, nothing more.

The next days after he was constantly bombarded with his coworkers why such a famous guy asked for Markus, who was a no one essentially. He did the best he could to ignore their assumptions of something between the two, which in reality was only a beneficial mission between the hero and villain, there were no feelings there, at least not for Markus. He had done what Lucian asked, sending in his measurements and waited with a pit of anxiety in his stomach. What if things went wrong at this event? What if he was outed as a hero and was captured or killed at this event? Was it worth it for him to go and risk his life? For Markus, there was only one way to find out.

On the days closing in on the event, Markus had received a box at work, and the scent tipped him off that it was the suit from Lucian. The guy really couldn't help himself with that calogne, could he? He opened the box when he returned home after work and was surprised how casual it was going to be compared to what he expected. He texted Lucian, thanking him for the suit and asking what was next on their to do list as the event was slowly closing in for time.

He'd managed to eat about half of his food and drink his iced coffee by the time that Markus finally texted back. He glanced at his watch before sending back a quick text.

Send me your address ASAP. I've got a surprise :D

His phone buzzed with a text as he sent the first one, and he raised an eyebrow before a grin broke over his face. These was a red carpet, and a red carpet required a grand entrance. He made sure he had everything before leaving the apartment, adrenaline starting to pound through his veins. For a moment, he let himself wonder what his life would be like if he just... stopped. If he let himself be Lucian Mitchell, the designer, the model, the photographer. If Maelstrom just disappeared. But as he checked his phone to see if Markus had texted back, it was a reminder that right now, it wasn't possible. As much as he hated to concede to Markus, Lucian couldn't rest until whoever had the heroes was gone. Lucian was going to be in danger, because people knew who he was. Not many people knew, but the wrong ones knew. The ones with the bullets in their gun and a paycheck waiting. As he climbed into the limo, he instinctively felt for the knives he had obscured in his jacket. He didn't think he'd need them. But he still wanted to have them, just in case.

He told the driver Markus' address once he'd gotten it. A limo definitely did not seem like Markus' style, which was half the reason Lucian had booked it. He still wasn't over the whole "being thrown out the window" thing. But people did not expect Lucian Mitchell to arrive in some dumb, ordinary car, and they sure as hell didn't expect him to show up on the back of his date's motorbike. Big, grand, unforgettable. Immortality, darling.

Markus had sat anxiously awaiting Lucian, whenever he would either arrive at his apartment or would be called to arrive at his place. He had gotten dressed, shaved, and made sure his hair and his general over all appearance wasn't awful, and that he would look somewhat decent enough to match Lucian's ideal image for the event. He almost jumped to his feet when he heard his phone go off on the small wooden table in his living room, he immediately picked it up and checked the text, giving him the address which wasn't very far away from the parlor, maybe it wasn't the best idea for him to live so close to his workplace, but he didn't care. But his left eyebrow quirked when he read that Lucian had a surprise waiting for him, what did this madman have in store for him that wasn't already the suit and the event he was attending, to only be looking for information.

Markus sat prepared, no weapons were on him, that the enemies could detect, seeing how he was able to make his own on demand. He sat waiting for Lucian, with his phone in his hands as he looked out the window that overlooked the streets below, his anxiety slowly rising at each and every passing moment. Today would be the day he would hopefully find out what was happening to all the people going missing, if Lucian wasn't setting him up for a trap, which is a thought he had in the back of his mind this whole time, but he wasn't going to let it be obvious. He had to play the part of Lucian's event date, and so he would, even if the prospect of it did make him anxious.

In response to the text with Markus' address, he texted back, telling Markus to come downstairs. In a somewhat welcome distraction, his phone rang. A culmination of small, tiny issues that somehow all required his attention at once. All of them were small, but also had the possibility of bringing the whole thing down when they mounted up. He spent the car journey trying to sort them out remotely. No, the model being on crutches would not bring down the entire show, just get the makeup artists to do something with her cast if they could and Lucian would figure out the shoe situation when he got there. If they couldn't fix the lighting sequence then just revert to the standard, because it being wrong would be worse than it not working at all.

Before he knew it, the car was coming to a stop. He hung up with the instruction that he'd deal with everything else when he got to the venue. He fished out the bottle of champagne and two champagne glasses, before climbing out of the car to wait for Markus. When he saw the hero, he grinned. There was more than a little relief when he saw that Markus was wearing his suit. It looked good, too. He'd brought an emergency supply of safety pins, thread and needles just in case he needed to adjust the fit, but it appeared that it was unnecessary.

"Looking good, darling," he said. "We're going to kill the red carpet." He stood back and held the door for his "date", before following him in to the car. "You've got to remember, we're going as stars, not as hero and villain. So we need to make the right style of entrance. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves, so we need to strike the right amount of drama. And honey, with you looking like that? We're gonna ace it," he said with a wink as he poured two glasses of champagne, before handing one to Markus.

Markus had waited patiently when he saw the limo slowly pull up down the street, his hands began to grow sweaty and his throat felt dry. This would be it, it was now or never that he would get the information that he would need. He quickly walked down the stairs and left the apartment complex, seeing Lucien exit the limo, greeting him. He gave him a small smile as he got into the vehicle, "Th-thanks, Lucien. I was a bit uncertain at first about the outfit, but I know we have to pull this off." he said with a small smile as he awkwardly sat across from Lucien, rubbing his hands together.

"I hope this goes according to plan, otherwise we might be screwed in this endevour." he said with a smirk as he happily accepted the drink from him. "So, what exactly will we be looking for?" he questioned as he took a sip, and then looked around the limo, the feeling of awkwardness slowly creeping up on him.

Lucian took a sip from his glass as Markus remarked that if things went wrong, they might very well be screwed. "In an ideal world, we'd take literally anything that could be relevant. But I don't think that's quite going to work. So check computers, laptops, anything like that. Copy anything that might be relevant to this," he said, handing Markus a USB drive. "Doesn't matter if it's encrypted, I can deal with that later. If you can't get into the computers because of passwords, plug that in as well, I have software on it that should be able to get around most security without leaving a trace. Literally just plug it in, wait two minutes, and try to log in. If it doesn't work, just move on to the next thing. Take photos of any documents, don't take any paper unless you really, really need to. Leave things as you find them as far as possible, we don't want people getting suspicious. And be in and out as quickly as possible, avoid cameras as much as possible, and claim ignorance if things go wrong." He honestly didn't know the type of information they were looking for, but there had to be something. "And you need to pretend you hate superhumans as much as anyone else. Make people trust you. Be as invisible as you can, darling," he instructed, sipping his champagne.

"I'll keep an ear out for anything on my end, but I can't guarantee I'll hear anything. I'll keep my phone on me as much as possible, but there's no guarantee I'll be able to respond. Under no circumstances text anything incriminating to me, okay? No photos, no information. If something happens to you, I don't want them to be able to trace it back to me." Not tonight of all nights. This was too major to risk ruining.

"Right, sweetheart, we need to talk red carpet etiquette. Smile, wave, pose for photos. I can't imagine too many people will be asking questions, but if they do, you're just honestly delighted to be there. I owed you a favour so gave you my other ticket. This is an awesome charity to be supporting, their work is really important, and you're especially excited for the fashion show. I'll try and stick with you as much as possible and I can handle the awkward questions. Okay?" He asked, draining his glass. They couldn't be too far away at this point.

Markus nodded silently at what Lucian told him, and what the plan was. He could do what was being asked of him, slipping in and out of sight without being suspected was his specialty above all else, so this should be a walk in the park for him. Avoiding cameras and staying out of eyesight and earshot would be easy enough for him, he took a sip of his drink again and nodded as he fixed the way he was sitting.

"This could either go perfectly or terribly wrong. Obviously, we hope for the best, but if things go south, what do we do?" he questioned as his right eyebrow twitched into an arch as he peered out of the tinted window to his side, feeling his stomach turn in knots as his mind went through all the different scenarios that could possibly happen.

"I'll do my best on my own, shouldn't need to get into contact with you, but if I do, I'll keep it coded. I know my way of keeping things from being incriminating." he said casually as he finished off his drink, placing the small glass in the cupholder that was beside his seat.

"I may not seem like it, but I know how to put on an act. And I know how to smooth talk my way through any scenario that may happen, I just can't guarantee your safety first, Lucian." Markus said with a small smirk as he looked at the blood, cracking his knuckles he took a deep breath as he realized that they were getting close to the place where the event would be happening.

Lucian grimaced at the mention of things going south. As well as the many obvious reasons why that would be undesirable, he really didn't want this event being ruined. He'd put far too much effort into it. "If things go south? We're not going to do anything. You'll be on your own. And before you go accusing me of being the typical selfish villain, tonight, I am modelling and co-ordinating the show. I'm going to have eyes on me at all times. I can answer a text, I can remotely help you out, but I can't leave to save your ass. It'll be way too obvious, and god knows we can't both go getting caught." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I can try and get out to you after the show is done. But I doubt I'll be able to make it. All eyes will still be on me but for different reasons. Ideally, you'd be back in the room by that point so nobody goes asking where that charming young man I came in with has disappeared to. Oh, and do try not to get killed or arrested, it'll really kill the mood."

Markus' reassurances that he'd be able to handle himself on the red carpet fell on deaf ears as the car came to a stop. Lucian's heart was pounding as he could hear voices, someone talking to the driver. But then the car started moving again, slowly, and the sound of a crowd picked up. When the car came to a halt again, he took a deep breath. The door was opened from the outside, and Lucian stepped out to the flash of cameras and people calling his name. His best million watt smile appeared on his face as he posed for a moment, giving Markus time to join him, before turning and walking towards the red carpet.

Lists of things he needed to do, needed to check, started rushing through his head. He almost missed the woman beckoning him for an interview. "Smiles on, follow my lead," he instructed under his breath to Markus, before making his way over to the interviewer. They'd only just reached the woman when Lucian's phone buzzed. He glanced at it briefly, internally swearing. He'd only just arrived and somebody needed him already.

"Oh my gosh, darling, I'm so sorry. We've just had a makeup artist drop out and I need to run. I'm metaphorically wearing half a dozen hats tonight, you would not believe it. Your dress is gorgeous, is that Burberry? Again, I am so sorry. Markus, you'll give Vanessa here what she wants, won't you?" He gushed. He really didn't want to leave Markus alone, but for just tonight, Maelstrom had to take a backseat.

Markus nodded as the pit of anxiety in his stomach went rampant, not only were his own thoughts filled with possible failure but now with Lucian's doubt of it going perfectly successful, caused him to grow even more worried. Maybe this is why he preferred to work alone if anyone else was the blame, it was only him, not anyone else. And if shit did go south, he'd only have to worry about himself, but even now, if things did go south, he could always let Lucian take the downfall. But he knows where he lives and could very easily have him be killed...A million thoughts raced through his mind as he listened to the other male talk, this was mainly up to Markus, and he knew that. Get in, get what they need, get out with no one noticing, and make a clean getaway if all hell breaks loose. Markus quickly downed the rest of his drink and ruffled his hair slightly as he took a deep breath, "Got it. Don't get into contact with you unless I absolutely have to." he said as calmly as he could.

He nodded as the car came to a stop, taking in note that they had arrived. Showtime, he thought as Lucian got out as the door opened, the bright light of the sun assaulted his eyes as he had gotten used to the darkness of the car due to the blackened windows. Slowly he stepped out after Lucian, paying close attention to how he talked, his body language, the way he interacted and greeted people, he'd have to do the same, but not take any attention to himself. He could have sworn he felt his heart drop when Lucian said he had to go, leaving Markus to deal with the cameras and people asking for questions. This was just perfect, already not going the way they'd need things to. He gave his best smile and act that he could perform as he clasped his hands infront of him, giving a wide and toothy smile as he looked at the woman in question as he turned and greeted her with a nod and an outstretched hand, "Markus, pleasure to meet you, Venessa." he said with the all too fake smile, this wasn't anything that he had expected or experienced, but he did the best he could to keep the anxiety that was slowly clawing from inside of him at bay.

Lucian flashed an apologetic smile at Markus before heading into the building, stopping only for a photograph or two before apologizing and making his way into the building. Inside, a reception was laid out, drinks of all and every kind available and served by beautiful people. How Lucian wished that he could just swan into that crowd and do what he did best. But instead, he disappeared down a side hall, taking a shortcut around back to backstage.

Or, at least, that had been his initial intention. But the further down the narrow corridor he went, the more uneasy he became. This wasn’t just pre-show nerves. This was something else. And then the lights went out. Lucian swore and reached into his jacket, reaching for the knives he’d stashed there before leaving the house. Someone grabbed at him from behind, and he spun around, blindly kicking out. His boot made contact with something, but he didn’t give himself time to analyze it. He lashed out with the knife, but reached only air. He stumbled back and put up a field around himself. The faint light it gave off helped him gain a rough idea of his attacker’s position.

The lights came back on, and his attacker swore. Taking the moment of distraction, Lucian lashed out again, using his ability to hurl a blast at the attacker. The man stumbled back- but he should have been knocked off his feet. Lucian started for a moment in shock, giving the man time to lash out. The shield Lucian had thrown around himself shattered, and the man’s fist collided with Lucian’s chest. The blow winded Lucian and he swore he heard a crack, but it was something he didn’t want to dwell on. Lucian hurled a knife at the man, who dodged easily. But it meant he didn’t see the blast that Lucian had aimed at his unprotected head. It did exactly what he wanted to, and the man sank to the floor like a rag doll. Lucian quickly stashed away his spare knife and recovered the one he’d thrown, before grabbing the man and dragging him out of the line of sight. Spotting an emergency exit, he dragged the man outside and left him behind a dumpster, but not before quickly patting the man down and searching him. He recovered a phone and some cash, but not much else. He stared down at the unconscious man, thoughts and plans running through his head. The easiest thing to do would be to just kill him. But a traumatic head injury might just have enough damage done. It usually did. His phone buzzed with yet another panicked text from their makeup artist, and Lucian decided just to leave the man, careful to double check the body for any physical evidence leading him back to Lucian. Satisfied that there was nothing, Lucian headed back inside. But as he went in, he made plans. Texted a villain friend of his who owed him a major favor, told him where the man was, and told him to make sure that there was no evidence at all. Texted the makeup artist to say he was on his way. And texted Markus.

“SOS. Need to update you. Sending someone out with a backstage pass for you.”

“Oh my god, Carla, I got held up, I’m so sorry. Frankie’s makeup looks great. I’ll make a start on Julienne now. Oh, Rachel, darling, can you drop this out to Markus for me?” He stopped only to give Rachel a brief run-down on what Markus was wearing and what he looked like, before diving straight back into show preparations. But the aching in his side reminded him that, as much as he wanted for forget, something was very wrong.

Anxiety. That was all that Markus had felt since the moment he agreed to go to this event with Lucian. And that is all he felt as time had seemed to almost go in slow motion after Lucian had left him with countless interviewers, press, cameras, flashes of light, constant chatter from everyone around him, it was overbearing and began to become too much, but he managed to remain calm and as cool as he could as he went from interview to interview, to pictures, to pictures, to hounding of the press for questions about him and Lucian, were they simply platonic or was there more to it? That was the question that always brought more anxiety to him each time he was asked. He simply stated that they were merely platonic and were there for the event, nothing more. It was about the fifth time that he was asked the same question when he felt his phone buzz in his right pocket, he asked politely to be given a moment, and when he read the message he couldn't help but be relieved, and more anxious when he read that plans had changed so quickly, all too soon he thought. Someone most have already started messing with their plans or something happened with Lucian. He quickly shoved his phone back into his pocket and excused himself from the press as he began to make his way to where he was told to go until he met the assistant that Lucian said would greet him with a backstage pass.

Markus quickly followed the woman after politely introducing himself and after passing security and safety checks he followed the woman to where Lucian was, busily attending to multiple people's makeup and outfits. He waited patiently on the side as he waited for the assistant to let Lucian know that she was back with Markus. The small hairs on the back of his neck prickled as he felt that something was off, he knew he wasn't the only one that sensed it, it was obvious that Lucian had if not experienced something, he at least knew something was amiss, and he was glad that Lucian wasn't simply going to leave him in the dark about what was going on.

Lucian was on his knees, sticking pins into the back of a model’s dress when he felt somebody approaching him. He fought every instinct in his body, keeping his posture relaxed and his hands steady. “Lucian, I found Markus for you,” Rachel chimed. Without even looking around, Lucian rolled his eyes. “You can drop that tone, Rachel, I’ve told you, we’re just friends,” he said lightly. “There you go, Heather dearest. You look amazing, go let Jo finish your hair!” He waited until both Rachel and Heather had turned their backs before getting to his feet, wincing a little as he did so. He definitely had at least one cracked rib, possibly more, but he was pretty sure that the punch had at least missed the slowly healing wound. He just beckoned Markus into a quieter area, one where they wouldn’t be overheard. He stepped as close to Markus as he dared, conscious that they could still be seen if not heard.

“They’re here. Whoever they are. I got jumped on my way in here,” he said quietly. “And they... they seem to be less susceptible to our abilities. An attack that would usually floor somebody for an hour or two just made him stumble back, and he was able to shatter my forcefield with a punch. Bastard was strong. You need to be on your guard, okay? Here,” Lucian said, reaching into his jacket and slipping Markus his knives. “Don’t just rely on your ability. Be careful. Just... get out of there if things get nasty, okay? We’ll have other opportunities to get the information.”

Someone walked past with a tray of champagne and Lucian flagged them down, grabbing a glass. He dug his painkillers out of his pocket and swallowed two, chasing them with the champagne. “How was the press? Falling at your feet I bet?” He asked, fixing that famous grin back on his face again, trying to compose himself.

Markus sighed as Rachel alerted Lucian that she had returned with him, even now people were making jokes about them being a couple, if he heard another person make that remark he was going to lose it. They were polar opposites, right? Hero and villain? Light and dark? Good and bad? To be fair no one knew, but even then, they could never be anything more than acquaintances, right? The only reason they were even working together was because they were after the same thing, the truth about what was going on with the heros and villains, right? Markus despised all villain and Lucian despised all heros, so there was no way that it would ever work out, at least that's what he thought. Silently he shook his head and waited for Lucian to finish up with what he was doing, and took in notice of how he stood up, he had been injured, alerting Markus to the fact that his hunch was indeed correct.

Silently Markus followed behind Lucian until they were in a private area for where they could talk, and even before Markus could speak, Lucian told him what happened. The fact that he was attacked by someone, and that they were incredibly strong, and that they were most likely not alone. His fears were already high strung, now this only caused his anxiety to grow. What would they do if someone attacks him again? Or even Markis this time or the people at the event? As much as he'd want to help, he'd have to keep his identity a secret. "I'll keep my eyes out, Lucian...Fuck, this is the exact opposit of what we needed right now. I-I'll do my best to make sure we get what we need if not, I'll come back for you and get out of here. I need you alive at least." he said cooly as he noticed someone pass by them with a tray of drinks, watching as Lucian took one and casually asked how it went with the press.

A long and deep sigh came from him as he looked around casually, "They're the press. Cameras flashing, millions of questions. Same questions over and over again. It's nothing I'm not used to, but certainly not something that I like. I don't get how you do it every day." he said with an exasperated breath as he untensed his shoulders for a moment, making sure to keep up is guard for anything.

Lucian shook his head as Markus said he’d come back for Lucian. “No. Leave me be. I’ll make sure that I’m never left by myself, that should be easy for tonight. They won’t attack a seemingly innocent man with that many witnesses around, they’re reckless, not stupid. Get yourself out. Don’t put yourself in danger.” Only a few weeks ago, Lucian wouldn’t have cared what this hero did, whether he did get himself killed trying to do something stupid. And he still didn’t really care, right? He just wanted to make sure that this... mission or whatever the hell they were doing didn’t go to hell.

He chuckled a little as Markus commented on the press. “Oh, they’re vicious bastards who will jump on every opportunity they get. But they’re also an incredibly powerful tool. You just need to learn how to use them to your advantage. Turn on the smile, flatter them, seem as human as you can, and never, ever rise to them. Remember the power of a coy smile and shrug. It’s not easy. But I manage, darling.”

He could hear someone calling his name in the distance and realised that while he had been busy sorting everyone else’s outfits and makeup, he was still in his own tux and nowhere near ready for stage. “Duty calls. For god’s sake, please be careful, and try not to lose either of those knives, you hear?” He whispered with a wink, before gliding back out to the frustrated makeup artist awaiting him.

Having ran a brief eye over his outfits to make sure that the various wounds on his chest wouldn’t be visible in any way, Lucian had gotten changed, got his makeup done, and had yet another coat of hairspray sprayed over his hair. Markus lingered on Lucian’s mind for a few seconds longer than he wanted to admit as he prepared himself to walk. He needed tonight to work out. In so, so many different ways.
