Sahvanna Ironclaw

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?

a character in “Marked 2”, as played by Airanea

Description

ImageName: Sahvanna Ironclaw
"Oh, my name? Aw, yooh are so coote" Sahvanna spoke with the smallest hint of sarcasm as he finger trailed down the long narrow bridge of the young man who asked. "Vanna, yooh can call me Vanna - why not yooh come in?" Her lips twisted to the most sinister of smirks while deep glistening ice blue eyes studied his movements.

Age: 24
"A bit rahde to ask so openly - yooh not think? I can assahre yooh zat my yooth does naht reflect my experience." Sahvanna leaned over to the boy, whispering in his ear, the heat of her breath pushed against the size of his face while the tip of her tongue trailed over his lobe.

Mate: Yes, but, he is dead now.
"Vhy, vhy vould yooh ask something so personal? For yooh lack of manners I will inform yooh nov, zat is nah a very polite qahestion." The small woman pulled back, her eyes narrowed and brows pulled to show a fierce nature. "I sahggest yooh pick yoohr next words carefahlly."

Who am I: A wander, A stranger – A beautiful, charming, alluring stranger. A stranded helpless lone female, with no pack.
"Yooh voahldn’t leave me here to die, vould yooh?"

Image
Personality:Sahvanna is girl of high intelligence, she believes in furthering yourself mentally as much as possible. She makes for a loyal devoted friend and a tender lover, although with no mate Sahvanna always finds a way to… enjoy herself. One would notice that ‘Vanna never dives deep into personal details, she is constantly joking around to dodge personal questions, and never indulges in the drama or rumors which seem to find her.

Sahvanna has a natural talent to draw people into her – it comes from a simple contact of eyes and something deep within you is screaming, you are trying to tell yourself something, and it seems that something is ‘I need to know this woman!’ Sahvanna seems to be the perfect mix between one of the guys (always joking around with a light hearted nature, partaking in sports, taking dangerous risks for the pure thrill of adrenaline, and playfully wrestling and sparring.) and a flirtatious being with both men and women. ‘Vanna can be summed up as one big mystery - A single black question mark.

This woman has a temper like no other - although she is a sweet, tender, and relaxed creature there is another side that she tends to keep buried deep within her around strangers. She is a vindictive, malicious, and violent being – although you would never know that, she has been keeping this hidden from chosen people for so long that not even a glimpse could be seen if she wished it not to be. Manipulation at its finest.

History: Born in the thick forests of Russia Sahvanna was left to die – an abomination in the eyes of a mother and a runt in the eyes of her father. A singular werewolf found her humanoid body buried in the snow near death, raised her, and loved her with the passion of a birth parent. At the age of 9 her adoptive parent was killed by a hunter, skinned for her fur, and left a bloody corpse to lay in red tainted snow. ‘Vanna had been hidden in a nearby bush – with her eyes wide open to watch the scene in shock.

After having been snuggled up to the corpse weeping for day’s starvation began to eat at the small body of Sahvanna – she had to leave – she had to hunt. This is where it all began, that cold nature, her hatred for humans, her hatred for everything; this is the day the real Sahvanna was born.

Years passed and Sahvanna had been alone – mostly – she often ran into other packs which she stayed with for days, weeks, sometimes even months, but she always left. In one of these packs she had found her mate - she lingered with this pack for longer than usual, it doesn't matter anyway he was murdered. With time Sahvanna had seen most of the world, yet her Russian accent has still stuck to this day.

The forest creaked with the movement of life – critters creeped and creepers crittered, scurrying along the terrain of a thick forest floor. The sun was just beginning to fall across the sky closer to the horizon leaving the clouded dome with faint pink and orange illuminated lining, only a few more hours still it set fire in a blazing sunset.

If you wandered through the crowded bush you would find a small woman rested on her rear against a thick ancient tree trunk, one of which had been wrapped in thick deep green vines, the vines – they wound up the base and twisted in intricate patterns until disappearing in the crown of said tree.

There sat Sahvanna her eyes to the sky viewing naked branches which were assorted with the red and orange hued leaves, leave that had been swaying in the autumn breeze, threating to detach and drift to the floor of earth. With a rock in one hand and a short dagger in the other this strange woman ran one along the other in a smooth rhythm, the scrapping sounded about the forest. She wasn’t far from the town now, maybe half a mile.

A large black duffle bag rested at her side, lumpy and foreign, covering the canvas material were small stitched flags. The red white and blue of Czech Republic, France, Yugoslavia, Iceland, and America - The red and yellow of Spain and China – If one knew their flags they would see a vast array of a strange collection: India, Rwanda, Brazil, Germany, Ethiopia, New Zealand, Cambodia, even Antarctica. The most prominent was the Russian flag which was clearly the largest and the only flag with not a speckle of dirt.

Sahvanna took a long lean finger pushing it to the tip of her blade, with the softest touch a small bead of blood bubbled at its tip. A threatening smirk of satisfaction became etched on those plump and luscious lips. Coming to a slow stand the woman placed her blade back in its sheath and tucked it in the waist of her skin tight leather pants. “Is looking aboaht time to go.” She spoke to herself - the rather hefty Russian accent rang in her own ears – She almost missed her little Russian buddy, eh, maybe not.

The natural light of the sky showed the beauty that was Sahvanna. Long chocolate brown hair fell to the small of her back, the shine showing hues of red, thick lips pouted naturally on a narrow face. The body of this woman was of average height standing at five foot five inches, and deep running flattering curves held tight in all the right places. Those curves which drew the eye were coated in sun kissed flesh – flesh which had several faint scars including one of which that ran through her bottom lip to the base of her chin. Her attire consisted of skin tight leather pants which looked as if they had been painted on clinging to the bends of her lower body, knee high loose fitting – steel toed leather boots with gold buckles up the sides, and finally a tight fitting deep V-neck tee - which had smears of dirt and blood.

With her bag heaved over her shoulder long lean legs lead Sahvanna closer to the town – Once breaking from the tree line her speed slowed to something more casual making not a sound, not even to the most sensitive of ears.

There it was – the source of the smell – a building – a school. “Zere ve go.” The words slipped from her mouth like silk as she made her way closer to the entrance and passing two males – Duncan and Calvin. Abnormally bright blue eyes snapped to each in hopes of making eye contact, if the connection had been made her lips would part in a warm welcoming smile; a faint blush of pink rising to the apples of her cheeks. Long delicate fingers would brush the silk of her hair behind her ears as she looked to the ground in a bashful manner.

The sound of Sahvanna’s bag hitting the pavement outside the doors of the community school would echo about the building, ‘Vanna instantly dropped to be seated on her bag – she looked tired with deep dark circles surrounding her eyes – and in truth she was weak with hunger, maybe she should have hunted before coming, but, she had to come – didn’t she?

Calvin was absentmindedly bobbing his head from side to side when he became aware of Duncan approaching. He quickly stood upright and slipped his hands into his pockets semi-casually.

"Hey man." he said, "Yeah I'm all set. Just a routine thing tonight yeah? It'll be good to know the route, having more eyes open in the pack can only be a good th-"

His words trailed off as his eyes slid distinctly to the side, clocking the noteworthy figure who passed by throwing them both a glance. Her unmistakeable she-wolf scent tingled his nostils...again, utterly unfamiliar. Not a part of the local pack. Not that Calvin needed to rely on his wolf senses; hell if she lived in Connorsford he's have remembered seeing her.

The momentary fixation did not, however, stop him from considering how strange it was...

"Hey D," he said in a low voice, "she's the second out-of-town wolf I've seen in ten minutes. You know anything about people visiting?"

Ducan nodded slowly at Calvin's first comment his head tilted at the sound of someone approaching, sniffing slowly his eyes locked on a female wolf the scent matched the one he found in the forest earlier by the stripped down deer in the forest. There was a faint trace of the scent in town too perhaps the young wolf was there too. perhaps he could talk to Tai about the new visitors later on in the day of course he would tell Adrian too.

When he was sure that the new woman had left he spoke " well that older female was the scent I picked up in the forest, and on my walk through town today I caught a young female too she's in there with the other kids, I find it strange that the town has suddenly become popular. We must be cautious Right?" Ducan asked to see if Calvin understood.

Lyra chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully as Tabby spoke, her mind dancing on what the underlying causes anyone could have for sending this poor girl here. Unfortunately, she came up empty handed. As Tai lurched into another tune, Lyra joined in quickly. At first her toe tapped in rhythm to the beat, but she found herself easily distracted by how late it was getting. She did not want to miss patrol with Calvin and Duncan. . . Nor did she wish to sacrifice any time to prepare herself for the party tonight. Unusually, Lyra was not a girl of fashion; a skirt and top were enough for her. For tonight, however, she had purchased a new dress. If she had already gone that far, she might as well go all the way. Although make-up was not her thing. Perhaps she could ask Jac for advice, or use this as an excuse to meet Dante, or. . . Lyra breathed out impatiently, not knowing what she was going to do. This entire event stressed her out enough, including the fact that she had no idea why this mattered to her so much.

As the last note was played, Lyra stood up slowly and collected her belonging. "That was awesome guys. I'm going to head out so I don't hold up Calvin and Duncan, okay Mother?" she asked, turning to Tai for a moment. Lyra glaced to Tabby and smiled, scribbling down her address and phone number and handing it to the girl. "Here's where I live and my cell phone number if you need anything. It was nice meeting you, Tabby. I hope to see you tonight!" Lyra said cheerfully. With a soft wave, she headed out the door to the front preparing to send Calvin another text but saw him nearby and tucked her cell safely away in her bag's pocket.

With a gentle jog she went over to the guys, blinking in surprise to see a female sitting near the door that she hadn't used. She hurried her pace to find Calvin and Duncan, not wanting to keep them waiting anymore. "Hey guys, I'm here. Did you happen to see the girl near the music room?" Lyra asked cautiously. Whereas Tabby seemed innocent at the beginning, something about Sahvanna settled uneasily with Lyra. Once again came the frustration of what race the newcomer was. "Is she a. . . " Lyra cleared her throat softly, not wanting to finish the sentence in case Sahvanna was human.

Calvin raised his eyebrows as Duncan mentions yet another new wolf in town...in the community school with Tai’s music group? Well, the choice of activity certainly made the whole thing seem less ominous. If it was rogues on the advance it hardly seemed likely they’d be joining music groups and attending basketball games. Besides, that guys he’d seen in the square hardly seemed the threatening type. A little sleazy, perhaps, but not dangerous. After all he’s walked away slightly awkwardly, like he had an old injury that caused him pain. Maybe he’d been into sports himself, and that’s why he’d been interested in coming to the game. Calvin mused on it, resolving to try to find out more later.

“Yeah we ought to keep our eyes and ears open.” He said, “At the same time it could be nothing. Not like any of them have done anything worrying yet, and two out of three so far are females.”

Calvin turned to Lyra when she approached, and hastened to be the first to answer her question.

“Yeah she is.” He said, “And there’s at least two more outsiders in town as well. One of them was in there with you, we believe. Know anything about that?”

He gave one last curious glance at the female stood by the school building. He had to admit that she looked like a classic honeytrap, but he didn’t want to say so in front of Lyra.

---------

Tai dismissed the rest of the group shortly after Lyra and Tabby left, and patiently started to put the equipment back as she found it. Naturally she had to be the last one out so she could lock up and set the alarm. As she went through the procedure her mind rolled over all the things that had to be done. She’d prepared a whole buffet of food which just needed to be laid out, or in some cases heated up, ready for Reina’s birthday.

After about ten minutes she was ready, and stepped outside, closing and locking the door behind her.

As the music class was let out the stench of wolf became much more prominent in the air – and the smell of the female alpha grew nearer. Sahvanna felt a knot grow in her stomach – this was like no other pack she had been near before, her wolf was heading warnings about these people, about this place. “God damn Fahll Moon.” The woman murmured to herself, even if the moon hadn’t been out just yet she could feel the animalistic energy coursing through her body, and it was stronger than most days, stronger than most full moons. It was in this train of thought that the school door closed and snapped her from her daze.

There a woman stood locking up – it was her.

‘Vanna came to a quick stand heaving her bag back over her shoulder – she learned a long time ago that no matter how short the time span is never leave you bag on the ground unaccompanied – you can’t trust anyone. “Aye, excuse me.” The Russian silk spilled from her lips, the faint pink blush of her cheeks growing a deeper red in what would be assumed to be embarrassment. “I vould hate to barge in on yoohr territory vithoaht introdoocing me self.” Tired dark rimmed eyes looked to the woman in a silent plea, a plea of desperation. Pain and sorrow radiated through those soft and vibrant eyes. “I am Sahvanna, ‘Vanna if yooh vill.” With those words the now seemingly fragile woman reached her hand out in offering to Tai – the most domesticated humanoid thing she could think of, I mean, after all these wolves DID live with humans.

Tai turned to face the source of the thickly accented voice, her mind turning somersaults as she tried to wrap her head around a further augmentation of a very peculiar situation. Another outside wolf in town? If people had received Adrian’s email from that morning, they were sure doing a poor job of observing it. Nobody had mentioned expecting any visitors.

However, Sahvanna’s mentioned of passing through the Khöller’s territory proved that she wasn’t in the same situation as Tabby, and the fact that she said your territory suggested that she had identified her as the alpha female.

“My name’s Tai Khöller,” she replied, shifting her guitar higher on her should to take Sahvanna’s hand with a genial smile, “nice to meet you, and I appreciate the courtesy of announcing yourself. Seems a lot of others haven’t been bothering lately. Are you...travelling alone?”

Her eyes darted around the immediate area; there were a few other people passing by – all humans apart from one or two of the community school staff still clocking off for the day – but she decided it was probably safe to talk to Sahvanna fairly candidly. Apart from one or two rubbernecking men, nobody was paying them a great deal of attention.

With the soft grip of Tai, Sahvanna returned it with gentle squeeze before releasing. Her long fingers ran through the roots of her deep dark hair - pushing it from her face. "Aye, vell it seems as if ze nev generation of wolves have ze lack of manners - zen again over me travels I have noticed not every pack or individahal has ze proper manners of ze home coahntry."

Sahvanna's glistening blue eyes followed to same pattern as Tai's before landing back on the woman. With a heavy shrug of her shoulder and lift of the strap, Vanna readjusted her bag to a more comfortable position. "Yes, it is jahst I who came here. Gahess yooh coahld call me a vanderer." Sahvanna's eyes dropped to the ground, before shaking her head lightly.

"I am sorry I did nah mean to be keeeping yooh. I vill of coahrse pay ze respects of letting yooh knov vhen I vill be leaving as vell." a short pause passed before Sahvanna looked up to the woman her cheeks still a deeply tainted red. "and of coahrse give yoohr mate my regards." A small smile pulled across her lips, pulling the long scar to be twisted slightly. "Thank yooh for yoohr kindness Tai Khöller."

So, Sahvanna had come here alone, and it was apparently just a coincidence that it was on the same day that two other strange wolves were sighted. Coincidences...yes, they happened. But years in the role of alpha's mate had done something for her intuition, and she didn't like something about the whole situation.

"Much appreciated." Tai replied. She walked up to the side of the road and stood there as if waiting for someone who was coming to pick her up. Casually she looked back and added the question; "By the way, where are you staying if you don't mind me asking?"

She was already well aware that Tabby had been invited to stay the night at the pack house. There was still sufficient space to host more people if necessary, and the thought was already occuring to Tai to invite Sahvanna. For one thing, she didn't know if this outsider was a friend or foe, and either way Tai had learned to keep them close. For a second thing, if there was any connection between Sahvanna and Tai, having them both in the pack house would be likely to expose it.

"If you're in any difficulty," she went on, "we have some space at the house. That is unless there is anyone else you know in town who could accomodate you."

With Tai turning around Sahvanna let out a barely audible sigh before turning, dropping her bag, and pushing it towards the wall of the Community building – the canvas material dragging and scrapping along free thrown pebbles resting on pavement. The sightly woman slowly made her way to the bag, unzipping it and rummaging about for a sweater – the night was coming quick and cold would sneak up on her.

"By the way, where are you staying if you don't mind me asking?" Tai’s question caught Sahvanna slightly off guard but the woman took a quick glance over her shoulder before looking back to her bag, her hands digging with sluggish movements. "If you're in any difficulty, we have some space at the house. That is unless there is anyone else you know in town who could accommodate you." The alpha female continued.

“Vell, ze side cement of zese grounds had been callin my name to rest – and to answer ze underlaying question it is yooh really seek – nah – I do nah knov anyone in town. Let us say me wolf be overpovering vith ze fahll moon - it is vhat lead me here - ahnderstand?” Sahvanna dropped to her rounded rear in a clumsy manner having had lost her balance – a small groan escaped from her lips – sleep deprivation makes for a sloppy shewolf – at least in Vanna’s case it did. “I vould nah vant to paht yoohr pack oaht of zeir comfort zone – I do nah vish to impose baht – even a coahch woahld be a nice change. Do yooh zink zat voahld be… hov yooh say... appropriate?” spoken while taking another glance past her shoulder Sahvanna peeked up at Tai from under thick black lashes while slipping into a torn and holey sweater.

She was easy on the eyes, and apparently as sweet and polite as they come, but in truth she had nothing to her name, and the things she did ‘own’ were all on the verge of falling to bits and pieces of thread.

Tai suppressed her smirk...Sahvanna had really been planning on sleeping rough in the town? It was extremely unusual for a travelling wolf to make a stopover in another pack's territory without availing themselves of possible hospitality. But then, she had no idea what Sahvanna's real back story was.

"I'm sure we can do better than a couch." Tai replied, "And it certainly won't do for you to be sleeping rough unnecessarily."

She turned back to the road as if assuming the matter was settled, and looked in the direction from which she knew Adrian would be coming. As something else occured to her, she added, "Oh I should probably mention there's a social gathering at the pack house. A sixteenth birthday, so there will be people coming and going. Hopefully that's not a problem for you, but if it is then perhaps it will be offset by an unusual abundance of food."

She retained her benevolent smile, keen not to judge Sahvanna unduly. After all, it was entirely possible that the shewolf genuinely knew nothing of the other arrivals in town, and was in fact just a lone travelling wolf down on her luck.

At that moment the SUV rounded a corner and pulled up close to where Tai was standing. Adrian was in the driver's seat nodding his head to the stereo and briefly looking up to acknowledge his mate. He looked like he had much on his mind, and Tai wondered how much he had heard of everything that had been going on.

"Well if you're happy to come, this is our ride." Tai said, opening the trunk of the SUV and putting her guitar inside. "This is the head of our family, Adrian."

Adrian looked again and this time noticed Sahvanna, passing a look between her and Tai.

"Hey," he said cautiously, "nice to meet you."

Sahvanna let Tai’s words sunk deep in – should couldn’t help but feel that she was being mocked – thus the same issue arising that she had with many packs before this. They didn’t understand her, or her ways, and it seemed as if they didn’t quite understand the ways of a lone wolf traveler in general– then again who was she to speak? She herself didn’t understand the ways of packs that stayed stationary – it made no sense and their ways seemed selfish. Never the less the comment of more than a couch was enough to push momentary thoughts from front and center – to bury them deep in a box.

Sahvanna quickly did up her sweater along with her duffle bag, and proceeded in a light jog to the SUV, and slowly slipped into the back seat. Her eyes widened only slightly when seeing Adrian but reverted back to the norm within the blink of an eye. “Aye, is nice to meet yooh as vell – Sahvanna, ‘Vanna – and yooh are Adrian as yoohr mate has pre-varned me.” Her lips pulled up to a full spread smile showing the long rows of pearly white teeth. She broke the direct eye contact with Adrian before looking back to Tai.

Lucky bitch – Adrian was hot – really good damn good looking - he kind of reminded her of her own mate, but that thought was cut off very quickly before she began speaking again.

“So Tai, yooh said a birthday party? Sveet Sixteen yeah? Do yooh need help setting ahp?” She asked questions to try and fill what could be a silent drive, to prepare herself for the house, and maybe to give these people the slightest inkling that she was no harm – it was a long process but one she had done many times before. “Are most ze members in yoohr pack so young?” She almost asked if there would be humans but she knew the answer already – of course there would be they might as well be humans themselves.

There sat Sahvanna in the back of a strange vehicle, her back perfectly straight and left leg crossed over the right. Her fingers fiddled and picked at a tattered hole near her wrist while she maintained the piercing delectable smile, and constantly kept her eyes on either Tai or Adrian(depending on who was speaking at the time) – never once did she gaze out the window in awe, never once did her sight land in her lap.

"That's right." Adrian replied warmly, and glanced across at Tai, eagerly soliciting some information as to why the stranger was riding with them.

"Sahvanna is passing through." Tai said obligingly, "She doesn't know anybody in town and needed accomodation."

"Oh I see!" Adrian chirped, smiling back at Vanna, "Well it's serendipitous that you happened to run into us first."

He had to struggling not to allow his backward glance to linger longer than was necessary. Sahvanna was clearly a striking female, but his senses were keen enough to pick up from her that she probably was mated...although determining such things by scent alone was scarcely an exact science.

"Actually," Tai answered Vanna's question, "the party is for the youngest in the pack house but one, Reina. We've eleven under our roof at the moment, not including ourselves, all ranging up to the age of about twenty one."

She noted tacitly that Sahvanna was evidently unfamiliar with the working of a town pack, whereby the young people would stay in the Pack House under the care of the alpha from the ages of 12 - 21. Which merely corroborated the female's own story; that she was a lone traveller and probably had been for most of her life.

"We'd never ask a guest to help out," Tai added with a good humoured huff, "but we've yet to see the state of the place since the pups started arriving back from school! Most of the preparations have already been made. But Reina - the birthday girl - she's a little...unpredictable shall we say."

Sahvanna knew that look - the look from Adrian - she'd received it many times before - he was being such a good little mate.

"Vill if all is nah ready I voahld love to help." Sahvanna said to Tai with a warm smile "even if I be a gahest." It seemed as if that was all she had to say at this moment, her legs switched to be rested left over right, and her hand ran through the length of her hair.

Sahvanna's bright gleaming eyes flash from Tai to Adrian one last time before becoming pinned to peer out the front dash - of course still watching from her peripheral's.

Tai nodded and smiled congenially and peered up the road, as if employing X-Ray vision to try to see what chaos might be taking place in the house while all the young people were left unsupervised. ‘Young people’...it was a fairly loosely-applied description; a fair few of them were legally adults? There was just something about wolves while they were living in the pack-house that ensured it was never a dull time.

“Is Duncan still on patrol?” she asked Adrian.

“Ahm, not sure. He should probably have finished by now.”

“OK.” Tai nodded. Well, at least someone in authority would be in situ.

Adrian pulled the SUV up in the driveway and hopped out. Things seemed relatively quiet, which was encouraging. Tai got out of the car also and gestured for Sahvanna to follow.

“This is the pack house,” she said, speaking even more freely now that they were away from town, “people are probably a little exciteable what with the full moon coming and the party tonight and all.”

Adrian opened the front door and stepped inside. The hallway was vacant, but it was evident that most people were fairly close by. He groaned under his breath, and made a beeline for the control room. He needed to catch Duncan at some stage to get the details of his patrol, but he also wanted to see if there had been any correspondence from anyone else about the comings and goings in town today.

Tai invited Sahvanna in and took a few steps towards the lounge.

“Oh one more thing,” she said to the newcomer, “do you expect to be in town for the moon? I’m sure you’ve found your own way of handling it on the road, but maybe it would be a nice change for you to benefit from the cover of a territory pack? Entirely up to you of course.”

Reina scowled a little. Obviously Kiyoshi hadn't taken the bait. She grinned once again and shrugged. It was her party anyway, he would have to be nice to her whatever she said.

"Oh well, it's always worth a try!" she sang, before bounding out of the kitchen and almost running straight into Tai and a woman she didn't recognise.

"Oops! I wasn't doing anything, honest!"

Tai smiled brightly as Reina bounded in, trying to divert from the conversation she'd been having with Sahvanna.

"Easy there scamp!" she said good humouredly, "Just because you're the birthday girl doesn't mean you can get away with bowling people over!"

Pre-empting any questioning, she turned and indicated the female next to her.

"This is Sahvanna, she's going to be staying with us until it's time for her to move along. The more the merrier for the party, eh?"

Tai gestured for Sahvanna to come through to the living room with her and place her things down whilst Tai ascertained where would be the best room for her to stay. As she did she called out to the entire lower floor; "Hey guys, shall we start laying stuff out in the dining room? People will be turning up soon. I'll be out to help in a minute."

She looked at Sahvanna and chuckled, "Sorry, you're kinda hitting the ground running here this evening! Things will slow down later. As regards the full moon, do you expect you'll be here for that...?"

Kathy began to chuckle as she saw the things people had got for Ray as birthday presents. People really were making rods for their own backs with those sorts of things! She knew her own present was laying out in the dining room; it was just a had and some jewelry of the kind Reina seemed to like. Nothing too girly thats for sure.

"I hope she doesn't insist on using too many things out of that book at once." she said. "Maybe we should set her a limit of one a week! Or we should be so lucky."

She grinned and walked through to the kitchen, bringing out some of the other food which had been prepared and turning on the oven for a few of the warm snacks and canapes. She put a finger to her lips and turned to Anya as if something had just come into her mind.

"Do you know if Calvin is going to be here tonight?"

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Reina looked shiftily at the woman Tai introduced as Sahvanna. The newcomer looked like someone who was quite savvy, and that was always a threat to Ray. Very difficult to prank someone, or even to prank someone else around such a person, who had their wits about them all the time.

"Nice to meet you." she said politely, putting on her nicest smile. She was relieved when Tai led the female through to the living room. Ray turned around and hurried back to where she saw Kiyoshi and Lyra at the back of the hall near the dining room. "Hey! Sorry to interrupt your moment, but do you have any idea about that new woman who just came in?"

Only mildly surprised, Gavin let Anya drag him and Kathy out to the kitchen. He had picked up the scent of another wolf, female, but he immediately decided that Adrian and Tai wouldn't let her in the pack house if she wasn't welcome. Though he knew it shouldn't be, his mind was still bogged down with the whole mating thing.

He suspected everyone, and he noticed that his hand went almost completely rigid as long as Anya was holding it. The side of his body that was closest to Kathy also seemed to stiffen. It was getting more difficult to be around so much...estrogen.

Then Lyra came down, beaming at the three of them. His mouth went dry... she was absolutely beautiful. Her hazel eyes turned to him and she gave him what felt like a private grin- a knowing grin. She had a secret, something about him. His stomach did a flip and he forced himself to smile back, not wanting to be rude, especially if...

"I'm going to go see this new person." He suddenly blurted as Kathy went to help put out food for the party. Kiyoshi made an entrance as Gavin walked out to the living room, taking a deep breath.

----

Just as Reina left, Gavin walked in the living room and saw Tai and Adrian chatting with... someone completely unrecognizable.

Gavin found himself wishing Calvin was here.

"Hi."He stepped over, desperately seeking a distraction from his engrossing thoughts. He realized he must have looked as distracted as he felt. "Newbie?" He asked the new woman light heartedly, putting on one of his boyish grins. "Get out while you can, almost all the young ones are home, and that's when things really get crazy."

Sahvanna's eyes widened when they entered the house - not due to the condition but due to the amount of wolves - the smell was over powering, 'one - tvo - zree...' she began to count in her head. The long curved woman missed everything Tai had said due to the sniffing - counting - sorting. It was then a small girl ran directly for them - Sahvanna's brows furrowed as she looked the girl over. "Aye. Yooh and Adrian be having yoohr hands fahll." Her voice chimed out in a whimsical manner while she was lead to the living room. "Happy Birzday!" She shouted out over her shoulder as the girl - Reina- seemed to take off in the other direction.

"Sorry, you're kinda hitting the ground running here this evening! Things will slow down later. As regards the full moon, do you expect you'll be here for that...?" Tai asked in the most polite fashion, Sahvanna seemed to hum and haa over the question for a moment, those gleaming blue eyes showed an extraordinary contrast to the long lengths of dark hair and glowing skin while glancing about the room.

"I - It vould be interesting if nozing else - baht I zink it vould only be fair to see vow ze ozers take to me, yeah?" Sahvanna's plump dry lips parted to show hidden pearly whites in a wide smile. It was then a young man approached the two of them - he was handsome in a young boyish charm kind of way, small speckles of freckles marking his youthful face.

"Hi. Newbie? Get out while you can, almost all the young ones are home, and that's when things really get crazy." his voice sounded out as he grew closer.

"Nev-Bye?" Sahvanna's elegant charms seemed to vanish replacing a puzzlement to become engraved in her features. "Vhat is a Nev-Bye?" Her hand rested along her hip as she looked the man over, her eyes then snapping back to Tai. She hadn't dropped her bag yet - habit - paranoia.

"A newbie," Gavin repeated insistently, as though the word was self-explanatory. She still stared at him blankly, and a blush enveloped his face as he waved a hand passively. "It's... someone new to town, in this context, I guess. One who is new. Newbie."

It was so awkward, the whole thing. At least to him. It was odd, Gavin feeling out of place in his own house. Maybe he just had too much excitement for one day- skipping school, the bonfire, that kiss with Jac, the rogue wolf, and now Ray's party and- what the hell was up with all of these sudden rogues?

Stop worrying about your mate, don't you see there is something else going on here? His wolf growled. Open your eyes, you pathetic moron and see what's going on around you. There are more important things than you getting that piece of tail you made the mistake of wanting in the first place.

After mentally scolding his wolf for referring to Jac in such a derogatory manner, for the first time in a good while, Gavin actually listened to his wolf. This new coming didn't smell like the rogue who stalked him earlier at the beach. That was two in one day. Something in his gut told him there was a good chance he wasn't the only one who encountered one.

He gave the newbie a quick farewell before going off into the kitchen. He passed through the threshold, staring at the ground in thought. The kitchen was full of people, and without thinking he looked up and started to ask, "Hey, anyone else encountered any-"

Gavin stopped dead in his tracks when he saw her.

When Lyra came downstairs, he was shocked at how beautiful she was.

But it wasn't Lyra this time who suddenly overwhelmed him.

In fact, Lyra was probably the last person in his mind.

She was... gorgeous, to say the least. That black dress, complimenting her shape demanded his attention. But there was more than beauty radiating from Jac right now, something deeper that Gavin found himself hopelessly lost in, but couldn't label. The label didn't seem to matter. She had that confident attitude, that fire he liked so much, and now, she was standing there in that outfit that hit home in such a primitive way, that made her so... desirable.

Gavin suddenly realized he had been staring at her.

Shamelessly staring.

He took in a breath and walked over, closer to her. He dug a hand into his pocket and pulled out the lock picking case he bought for Ray, and put it down- slammed it down- with unnecessary force next to Ray.

"Happy birthday." He spun around on a heel, avoiding eye contact with Jac, and walked out of the kitchen. Back to the living room, avoiding contact with the people in there, out the front door, where he spotted Dante and James sitting in her car.

Not knowing what else to do, Gavin started walking down the street. To get away. Or something. He didn't even know what he was thinking, or why... But the whole stupid thing just plainly was not fair. And now she was in there all pretty (the word came spitefully to mind) probably getting ready to reveal whoever her mate was.

You're a coward. His wolf barked angrily. How dare you walk away from your pack.

"Shut up." Gavin spat back with matching anger. "Just shut the hell up, I wouldn't be this way if I didn't have you in the first place."

"I shouldn't worry," Tai began, "they're a tight bunch but they're used to being flexible about people coming and going. As it happens we had a new arrival only last n-"

Tai grinned and shook her head at Gavin's approach. She wasn't sure how Sahvanna would take to being called a 'newbie', but it was as well to allow the female to take the young folk exactly as she found them. If anything the banter seemed to fire back on Gavin as it turned out Sahvanna wasn't sure what he meant.

"Wait until you're my age," Tai chuckled, "then you'll really struggle to keep up with what they're talking about!"

She glanced down at the bag which Sahvanna was hanging on to with peculiar defensiveness. Probably a sympton of spending so much time on the road. Even the most basic and normally replaceable of belongings were precious when you were constantly travelling. Tai remembered a slightly little about that from her very early youth.

"Why don't you come up and take one of the free rooms." she said, "That way it's entirely up to you whether you want to come down and join us, freshen up, or just get some rest. I think we town wolves can sometimes take home comforts for granted! Please feel free to help yourself to anything."

Tai knew there were was one spare bedroom (after Dante had taken one) on the second floor, and two rooms downstairs with fold-out sofa beds. Since she was fairly sure Tabby would want to be involved in the party when she arrived, she decided that Tabby would be OK sleeping in one of the downstairs rooms, whereas Sahvanna might appreciate having the choice of staying upstairs or coming downstairs once shown to her room.

Sahvanna could practically feel the tendrils of awareness of her presence inching out through the house, and the sounds of conversation slowly converged on the dining room. And lastly when she detected that the alpha was once again among them, she decided that a few moments to gather herself would be quite expedient.

"Yes," she said, "I think that would be best. Thank you."

She followed as Tai led her out through the hall, where only one or two of the pack wolves remained, most of them having moved into the dining room, and up the stairs to a room some way along the upper hallway. It was a sparsely decorated room, in simple neutral colours, but clean and warm, just kept neutral for any prospective occupant. For a guest, it was wholly adequate.

Sahvannah set her bag down on the bed, but once again through instinct placed herself between it and the alpha female. Her defense had not yet allowed itself to relent, as worthy of trust as the Khöllers seemed. She turned to Tai and gave her a weary smile.

"You are very kind to offer this for me." she said, "Please do not allow me to detain you. I believe I shall join you later, so as not to cause too much disruption to your household."

"Don't worry about disruption," Tai laughed, "they are disruptive enough for themselves at the best of times. Make yourself comfortable, and hopefully we'll see you later. I'll make sure to put aside some food for you...the pups do tend to take no prisoners!"

Exiting the room and heading downstairs, Tai heard Sahvanna close the door after she left. She did not pause to listen to what the stranger might do; it was not becoming of her role to spy on her own guests. Inviting her into the house was an indication of trust. It was up to Sahvanna how she lived up to that.

At the bottom of the stairs she found Adrian leaning against the bannister with his arms folded and a small smile on his face.

"It's all happening tonight, eh?" he said in a low voice.

"Tell me about it." Tai replied. "You're aware of everything? Or should I say, everyone?"

"Sahvanna upstairs, a young girl arriving later who doesn't even know she's a wolf, and a rogue on the beach."

"I didn't know about the rogue," Tai said with a concerned tone, "that changes things a lot..."

"Actually I'm not sure it does." Adrian shook his head, "If there was any sinister plan afoot, it would make no sense to send someone right into the pack house and start an escapade on the beach when it was packed with humans."

"I see your point. What do you think then?"

"I think we should keep our eyes and ears open," Adrian shrugged, "but aside from that I think we should enjoy the party. Nothing's going to happen tonight, not with so many of our pack coming and going in the house."

"You know best." Tai said with a slightly crooked smirk, "In that case let's go and get things started."

She turned and took a few steps in the direction of the dining room, and then stopped. She had caught sight of Lyra and Kiyoshi in mid-kiss, and she quickly took a step back to stop Adrian from seeing. It was the least courtesy she could pay to her daughter to avoid her father - and the alpha - from becoming aware of the delicate situation too early. It was bad enough that Lyra would be duty bound to inform Adrian of it as soon as it was made official.

"On second thought," Tai said, distracting her mate's attention, "why don't we get a few more bottled of drink from the kitchen. I don't think I've laid any out. Would you come help me carry some?"

Adrian looked at her quizzically, and smiled. "Sure thing, anything for my worthy lady."
