Duncan awoke to the sound of his wolf telling him something. There's something in the forest, a Deer. "That's nothing new most of the animals trip of the sensors at night don't become so paranoid" Duncan replied as he sat up and looked out of the window trying to find the location where his wolf was on about His wolf gave a deep chuckle that was similar to Duncan's own. Me paranoid look whose talking, anyway this deer it dead has been for a few hours it might have been one of the intruders you and Alpha sensed last night. "And it might not have been it could have been a cougar, i'll check it out soon" he replied picking out some clothes and heading into the shower, allowing the water to run over him for a few minutes in deep contemplation for the upcoming full moon as well as other things on his mind.

Kathy chuckled nervously at the way Ray seemed more intent on amusing herself despite the fact that it was her birthday. She played with her hair and stuttered. "Oh, well yes I suppose if you think..."

She was glad when Anya came in and broke the moment. She thought about possibly getting some food herself, but it shouldn't be too long before people started arriving and Tai always had good things prepared.

"I hadn't thought about what I was going to wear," Kathy said, her fingers fidgetting, "I suppose I'd better go and find something! I'll bring down your present after I've ready Ray."

She ran up the stairs to her room and closed the door behind her. At least some other people were talking about dressing up for tonight, so that gave her a clue. Filtering through her wardrobe for a while she picked out a dark blue tunic dress, and put it on over boots and leggings. It was pretty close fitting, but Kathy wasn't the curviest girl in the world.

She crouched on the floor and reached under the bed, sweeping her arm underneath until she located the present she's wrapped two nights before. Thankful that it was really there and that she hadn't just imagined preparing it (that would be typical of Kathy) she pulled it out and listened at her door to see if other people were arriving.

Lyra watched as Calvin left towards his game, almost wishing that she could join him rather than attend the party. Things were slowly happening too quickly for her, everything was too much to process. She sighed and turned back to the house, sneaking in through the back door. No, this had to be done. Tonight. She smiled in memory to Calvin's words, that destiny didn't wait for anyone. That was true, and she was ready to make her own destiny now.

She hurried into the back door, not wanting to be seen by anyone before she was ready for the party. With so many people in the house, this was a surprisingly difficult task to complete. She paused in the entry way of the kitchen, her eyes lingering on the people in the room, focused only on Kiyoshi. Would he. . . Stop, she scolded herself mentally. Don't over think this, life is too short to live in doubt, wondering what could have been instead of what it will be.

She turned and hurried up the stairs and into her room, striping off her average clothes and rummaging through her closet to find the one article of clothing that would make this night perfect. She smiled upon her fingers striking the black silk of the oriental gown she had purchased one day while on a run. She sighed, looking at herself in the mirror. The dark silk made her appear nobler than she had first intended, and the gold in the attire mirrored her hazel eyes, causing them to appear more golden than usual. And, of course, she still wore her golden bells on each writ. When she purchased the dress, she did not even consider what Kiyoshi would think of the dress native to his own culture. Now, it was the only thought that stuck her mind. She preferred this stye of dress herself; the way it flowed about her body and trimming out her perfectly portioned frame. The only issue was the golden silk sash that was to be tied around her waist, a task that any female struggled with when dressing for a formal occasion. Not only that, but Lyra wanted to look perfect for tonight when she took the leap of faith. Unfortunately, the young wolf was naive to the ways of make-up, the only accessories she owned her from here preteen years when Tai took her out for the first, and last, mother-daughter expedition. Lyra never bothered with her complexion before, finding perfection over-rated and preferring to play in the mud than with dolls as a child, but tonight so wanted it to be special. Slowly she peaked around her door, breathing a sigh of relief as Jac ascended the stairs. "Jac?" she questioned softly, stepping into the hall and holding up the satin sash. "Could you help me tie this? And show me what types of make-up might look good on me?" she added shyly, hoping the other female would not laugh at her ignorance in such matters.

Lyra's hands twisted around in a nervous dance as Jac led her away into her room. The nerves only served to annoy Lyra, cursing herself for acting so weak. Surely Kiyoshi would deserve better than a nervous wreck. She had never acted like this before, allowing her feelings to get in the way of functioning properly. Perhaps that was how she knew that she had chosen correctly. If he was not meant to be the one, why else could she be acting this way?

Lyra sighed, plopping herself onto Jac's bed and smoothing the satin skirt properly into place. "Thank you, Jac. I don't want much, just a little something. I may be dressed like a geisha, but I don't want to look like one with enough make-up to cover the moon. I just want to look. . . Perfect, for him," she admitted helplessly, looking up to her packmate to see if the girl understood. Lyra paused in hesitation, wondering about her own private life. Lyra had always been more interested in playing with the boys than throwing tea parties with the girls her age. Although she knew Jac well as any packmate, she felt sorry that she did not know of Dante before today. If only she had worked more on people than her goal to be alpha. And something about the situation told Lyra that the usual 'siblings suck' that worked well in her own situation with James would not benefit Jac. Lyra sighed softly and pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin upon them. "Jac, thank you for doing this for me. I know I haven't always been there like I probably should have been, your sister took me by surprise. I wish that I could have known more before hand to help." Lyra paused, not really knowing where to go with that conversation. Instead, she chose a new topic. "How was the party with Gavin? Anything new that you discovered?"

Lyra smiled although she attempted not to. She did not want to destroy the work that Jac had already put into her. This conversation was not something Lyra was accustomed to, she had left herself vulnerable to Jac's judgement and it felt okay. For a moment it felt as if Lyra was a normal teenager with guy troubles rather than a wolf prepared to link with her mate for life and then run off to challenge her elder brother for the title of alpha. It was nice, indeed. However, the make-up was still something she could do without. As Jac finished and Lyra rose to find herself a mirror, Lyra blinked in surprise at what Jac had done. Perhaps it was time to rethink the entire make-up process. She looked better than she had hoped for, although it was not her own approval that Lyra was praying for.

"Jacquelyn, thank you for this. I really can't thank you enough." She smiled and looked at her reflection again, smoothing the satin dress again until the wrinkles were flattened. "And tell him whenever you want, but just make sure you give him a chance to fill in his own side of the conversation. Gavin would be crazy to not want you. Of all wolves here, you're one of the first to go to a human party with him. That speaks for itself. Everything will work out in the end, and I do mean everything," she said with a kind smile, referring to Dante as well.

Lyra followed Kiyoshi silently through the woods and house to carry Ares to bed. She wanted to make sure the young boy would be safe, that he would not wake or stumble in fear. As Kiyoshi laid him to rest, Lyra hung back beside the door frame, watching everything carefully. This room was Ares’s own safe haven and no place for her to walk in unannounced. Unless invited in by the boy personally, she would respect his privacy. It was the least she could do for the boy who had probably not even had his own room before.

She respected every one’s need for their own space, herself included. She never entered another packmate’s room unattended or invited. The only exception, of course, had been to pull Kiyoshi out of the grasp of a horribly vivid nightmare. She never knew what he had dreamed of, only that it frightened him greatly. And then. . . There were the days he would not even allow Lyra to visit him, locking himself in his room to mourn the anniversary of his parents' deaths. That would be coming up soon, wouldn't it? Lyra hesitated in thought. Now that they were bonded forever, would he allow her in at this crucial time?

Lyra smiled as Kiyoshi tossed his head around in search for her. She understood his fear and chuckled slightly to herself, although it was not directed at Kiyoshi. Sticking with her opinion on privacy, Lyra leaned her head against the doorframe and smiled to him. "I think he will be okay, Kiyo-kun," she whispered to not disturb the boy. "Even if he isn't, we will be around for him. He knows that he is not alone anymore, and that will help Ares more than anything. That's what affect you also, wasn't it? The fear of being alone without your parents."

Lyra sighed softly and stood, shifting topics so that Kiyoshi would not feel pressured into answering her question. "I think I'm going to head back downstairs. I still need to give Ray her gift and. . ." Lyra hesitated, knowing her motive for abandoning Ares was selfish. "It will not look good if the alpha's daughter skips out on a packmate's birthday party. James is there, so I should be also. I cannot let him best me over popularity at a social event," she said. Her voice was almost mute when she finished, refusing to look at Kiyoshi in the eyes in case he disapproved.

Kathy shrunk into her seat in the games room as she heard the energetic voices of the boys filling the hallway. It sounded like they were all up and at it now, but even for a normal Saturday morning there was an especially high level of noise. Even the front door was going and, was that, Gavin's mum? She paused the game and looked over the back of her chair. She couldn't see much from where she was, but everything seemed to be converging on the kitchen. She could hear Ray's voice as well, so at least one of the girls was around to make it safe. Safe? She could hardly believe she was saying that of the prank-meister-general.

Curiosity got the better of her, and she started to walk through the hall towards the kitchen, when suddenly there was the sound of raised voices. It was Evon, and she sounded very ticked off about something. It was actually a little scary, and she jolted sideways and made her way hurriedly up the stairs. At her pace she almost ran into the back of Sid and jumped in surprise once again.

"Woah!" she cried out, "Sid, you're back? Did you just get in? Did you see what's going on?"

She took a big breath out and slumped against the bannister. "I think the whole world's going insane."

Kathy followed Sid in silence, wondering what he might have seen to justifying the shushing. She obligingly lingered in the doorway of his room, blushing and looking away momentarily as he changed his shirt, but noting that he was pretty roughed up. Which was nothing unusual for him really. It was a shame that he too had not been around the previous day, just like Calvin. The two most practical and forthright males in the pack hadn't been around to help out! Even Adrian had been strangely preoccupied, and Tai seemed to have taken charge for the most part.

"Really..." Kathy replied with some scepticism, "...I wonder if they ever had anything as weird as what's going on now. You know there's a girl downstairs who doesn't know she's a werewolf? And I heard Duncan saying that other strange wolves have been around town yesterday. Maybe it's all nothing, but everyone seems to have gone doolally with the full moon coming. Some people have found their mates and...gah I just feel like there's a tornado passing and I just want there to be a bunker I can hide in until it's gone!"

Kathy thought back to last night and suddenly realised exactly how out of the loop she'd let herself become. She actually had not idea what had really happened with the various people who'd paired up, or why it was that Tabby didn't know she was a werewolf. She knew that she'd come in from out of town and was only staying overnight.

"You know," she answered, "I actually don't know what really happened last night. Someone spilled a barrel of loopy-juice I think."

Her eyes smarted and she blushed at his second comment, although in her mind it was obvious he was pulling her leg. But even approaching the question of whether she ought to know who her mate was yet made her stomach feel quite queasy, and she found it much easier to divert back to his first question.

"Lyra's with Kiyoshi," she answered, "I don't think anyone's very surprised about that. I think Gavin and Jac too. But definitely not me, I was talking to Reina most of the evening. And that girl Tabby. Who is also Gavin's long-lost sister by the way, just in case it wasn't complicated enough."

Glancing down the stairs she noticed that the noise hadn't so much reduced as dispersed. It sounded like something was going on outside. She shut her eyes and winced. All this noise and that was without her and Ray having executed their planned prank on Calvin!

Sid chuckled as he padded on his bare feet over to her. "Definitely not you? You sound like its never gonna happen." Sid comes over and looks over her shoulder down the stairs, putting a hand on her back as he slid past. "Guess I should go and let the others know I'm back and kicking. Besides it sounds like all the fun is going on down there." He started walking down the stairs, stopping about half way down as he called back, "Not to mention I'm starving. Any idea if we got any food lying around the house? I've been missing the pack's homecooked food while I was gone and even leftovers would be more than delicious."
