Introduction

The World:

This will take place in my own personal creation; Hainius. Hainius has many different types of humanoid beasts, strange creatures, and various types of dragons. After the plot overview, I'll give you a brief description of each type of humanoids and dragons that will be playable.

For setting, think basic medieval world. Swords, knives and bows. No technology, and most people live in relative poverty compared to the royalty and nobles. The two largest kingdoms are Litonia and Argomene. Litonia is larger and more prosperous, while Argomene is smaller, but more war-like. The larger cities include Chiirion, Frinoa and Kespian, which are allied with Litonia, Rylin and Shilene, which are allied with Argomene, and Groaknia, which is a very large city, basically a kingdom, that keeps to itself.

When creating a character, you can use one of those cities/kingdoms above, or simply say 'a small village near Chiiron' or 'a forest near Groaknia.'

Plot Overview:
Every twenty years or so, a dragon egg of each breed is found that has an odd, black splotch covering a about half of its shell. This black mark is dull and ugly; however, the parents of the egg are both saddened and pleased by this abnormality. Saddened because they know the hatchling will not be theirs to raise, and pleased because they know that this egg, this offspring of theirs, has been honored.

Honored, for it is one of The Marked. One of those few, few dragons that will become bonded with a twolegs. They are delivered quickly to the cave of the Great Dragon, deep in the heart of the Chirang woods. Here they are kept, though, unlike ordinary eggs, they will not hatch until all eight of The Marked eggs have been assembled, and the twolegs which are to be their bondeds have all realized their part in this hatching and come to take part.

Of course, these bondeds might have had different plans for their life. Chances are, none of them ever dreamed of being a dragon's bonded, and few of them are overjoyed when a large, black splotch begins to form and cover half their face. But like it or not, they are one of the Marked, and, if they do not travel to the cave of the Great Dragon, will be found and carried there by force. For if not all the Marked twolegs assemble, the eggs will never hatch.

The twolegs have come, the hatching ritual will take place within the week. For better or for worse, the twolegs will become bonded, and face all the trials the title involves.

Not the least of which is getting used to this new life.

The Dragons:
Dragons will hatch with the vocabulary of an average three year old, due to hearing speech while they're still in their egg (Serpents will have picked up more of the language, due to their natural dexterity with languages.)

Roughly, a large dragon will be about 30-50 feet long when full grown, a medium sized dragon about 15-30, and a small dragon will be about 8-15. King's Lizard's may be 45-65 feet when full grown (or even bigger). They will be about a 20th of their adult size upon hatching. This does not apply to Pocket dragons, who only grow to about 4-7 inches. Pocket dragons will be about 2 inches long upon hatching (including tail), and will grow much less than their larger kindred.

Pocket Dragons:
Pocket dragons are the very fastest type of dragon, and usually the wisest, but due to their size, not very strong. They can be any color or combination of colors, always have venomous teeth, can have a variety of different breath weapons (occasionally very odd ones, such as poison mist and plasma), and occasionally have a venomous barb on the end of their tails. They are anywhere from 4 to 7 inches in size.

Pocket Dragons are shaped almost exactly like your typical dragon, just much smaller. With long, whip like tails that make up much of their length, small, delicately built heads and large wings, they are usually very beautiful. They occasionally have horns on their heads.

Incredibly intelligent, Pocket Dragons are often wise, though they do not possess as passionate a love for knowledge as the Serpents. They are cautious around other dragons, generally preferring to run than stay and fight, even with those of their own kind, but, when cornered, are fierce fighters for their size.

Sky Elephants:
The most common type of war dragon, Sky Elephants are sturdily built, and have natural 'battle sense'. They may be any color, save for metallic shades, and are strong on the ground as well as in the air. They have either fire, water or air breath weapons, as well as their strong teeth, large claws, and clubbed tail.

As stated before, Sky Elephants have a clubbed tail and large claws. Their heads are broad and short, with strong teeth and wide jaws. They are sturdily built, with relatively short legs and deep, strong chests. They always have horns, though theirs stop growing before they reach maturity and are long and straight, never curling in the way a King's Lizard's does. They are the strongest type of dragon in relativity to their size.

Sky Elephants are very strong willed, and can be hard to train, but are as stubborn in their loyalty to their companions as they are in any other area. It takes a firm hand to handle them, but they are not known to be overly fond of starting fights, and are generally gentle. They generally do not get along with Serpents.

Chaotic Wraiths:
The most dangerous type of dragon, Chaotic Wraiths, or 'Chaos dragons', are built for fighting. They are not the fastest or the largest, but their dangerous breath weapons and well balanced physical abilities enable them to stand up against almost any other type of dragon. They can breath lightning or control shadows, and always have a venomous bite. They are often unfriendly to other types of dragon.

Chaotic Wraiths are always deepest black or purest white, and midsized. They have short heads and large, hard scales, with long, but not serpentine bodies, odd, spike shaped scales along their legs, which can be used to claw and rip at enemies, and wide, almost jagged looking wings. Very muscular and powerful, though not as much as a Sky Elephant.

As far as temperament goes, they are often bold and protective, but can seem a bit unloving even towards their companions at times. They are not given to displays of emotion, and can come across as cold. However, they are fiercely loyal, and will fight anything they deem as a threat to them and theirs.

Scaled Horse:
Arguably the most beautiful species, Scaled Horses are graceful and lithe, very quick in the air, but not very strong, being small and slender. They are powerful with their breath weapon, which is always air, and are shades of blue, green, or gray.

Scaled Horses have a horse or dog like body, though their legs and a bit longer, and their stomach is 'tucked in,' a bit like a greyhound's. Their heads are delicately shaped, and they have beautiful large eyes, which change color according to mood. How the colors reflect mood varies from individual to individual. A row of multi-colored spikes runs down their back.

Their wings are very odd, being, unlike other dragons, not bat shaped, but more like a birds. Long, sharp, but somewhat flexible, feather shaped scales cover their wings, which can be folded to their sides. The featheresque scales on top of the wing, the part that is visible while the wing is folded down, is the same color as the rest of their scales, while the scales on the bottom are brilliant colored.

Scaled Horses are usually quiet, gentle dragons, who enjoy attention and interaction. They are probably the most calm and complacent of all types, and are incredibly gorgeous. Especially skilled with aerial acrobatics, they can become snobbish and come to enjoy showing off if not taught that such behavior is unacceptable. That being said, they are still very calm, friendly, kind little dragons, and usually quite generous.

Eastern Cloudskimmers:
This type of dragon is not to be confused with the Western Cloudskimmers, the only similarity being its wide wingspan, enabling it to glide more easily and much faster than any other type of dragon. They have the best stamina of any type. Eastern Cloudskimmers range in color from dark violet purple, to pale, almost white, blue. They are never orange, yellow, red, black, white, brown, metallic shades, or any combination thereof. They have either fog, ice, or water as their breath weapon. They range in size from small to medium.

Eastern Cloudskimmers have medium sized scales, with wide, oddly shaped wings. Their wings run down their entire back, almost like two ridges, and end about halfway down their tail. From the back, these wings appear to be almost a 'V' shape.

Often shy, they have very violent tempers when provoked, and though they seem very laid back and complacent, can be very fussy and picky about how things are. Their beds, their food, their relationships, they like it all to be a certain way, and generally dislike change. However, they are very devoted to their companions, almost to the point of being clingy. They also have a tendency to be a bit proud.

Western Cloudskimmers:
This type of dragons should not be confused with the Eastern Cloudskimmer. Their stamina almost matches the Eastern Cloudskimmers, though they are slightly faster. Western Cloudskimmers range in color from deep burgundy red, to a pale yellow. They are never blue, green, purple, black, white, metallic shades, or any combination thereof. They can breathe fire, scorching hot winds, or acid. They range in size from small to medium.

Western Cloudskimmers have medium sized scales, with wide, oddly shaped wings. Their wings run down their entire back, almost like two ridges, and end about halfway down their tail. From the back, these wings appear to be almost a 'V' shape. They are much like the Eastern Cloudskimmers, but often a little more lithe.

Western Cloudskimmers are very similar to Eastern Cloudskimmers, even in temperament, but often have hotter tempers. However, they are also less fussy about how things arranged, and tend to be a bit less clingy to those they consider friends or companions.

King's Lizards:
King's Lizards are the largest type of dragon, and very good with defense. They are always metallic in color, and breathe acid. They are always large, often larger than the largest dragon of any other type.

Lithe and well built, yet, at the same time, appearing very strong, King's Lizards have long snouts, with tiny, metallic scales that are so small compared to their impressive size, that from any sort of distance, they seem to be made of a single piece of hammered metal. They always have black or ivory horns, which grow for their entire lives, starting small and straight, and beginning to curl after the dragon reaches maturity, often forming a lovely corkscrew shape by the time they come to a point of old age.

King's Lizards are usually gentle, calm and very kind, though they have a strong idea of what is right and wrong, and are quite passionate and immovable about most things. They are generally introverted, though not unfriendly.

Serpents:
Serpents are interesting dragons, being very long and snakelike in shape, with eight legs and no wings. They are incredibly fast on the ground and in the water, and usually very, very clever. They can be any color, save for metallic shades, but are often shades of green or brown, and range in size from medium to large. They breath either water or fire.

Serpents are clever and talkative. Generally, they pick up words at an amazing pace, and enjoy learning new things, seeming to see the pursuit of knowledge as a sort of game. They are usually amiable, easy going, and not terribly stubborn, but can be arrogant and unobservant. They are occasionally so wrapped up in their own thoughts that they lose track of what's going on around them. They can become excellent liars and cheaters if not brought up properly, and can also become lazy. However, overall, they are friendly, outgoing and clever dragons, always up for a good game or laugh.

The Twolegs:

Humans:
Accounting for approximately 50% of the 'pure' population of the entire planet, humans are known to be the weakest race, but the most numerous. Most other races regard them with indifference, with the exception of Clearland weres and the Rawsain. The Clearland weres find that humans are very beneficial friends, as, being the most numerous race, they are also fairly dominant. They are also rather easily amused by all sorts performances, which the Clearlanders can make a profit on. The Rawsain generally feel a strong hatred towards all humans.

I'll be looking for one human. (They are more numerous, yes, but not often chosen as a marked.)

Werewolves:
The beings known on Hainius as 'werewolves' differ from the werewolves in Earth myths and legends, as they are not effected by the presence of silver or lack thereof, their behavior depends very little on the full moon, and they can shift at will. The make up perhaps 35% of the 'pure' Hainius population, being the most common race after humans. A fullgrown male werewolf 's wolf form can reach a weight of 600 pounds, though most are closer to 450-525. Females are slightly smaller, weighing, on average, 375-475 pounds. Most werewolves live in packs.

I'll be looking for two werewolves.

Sirens:
Much like the sirens in Greek mythology, Sirens are extremely beautiful, and can manipulate other beings with their song. They are often rather selfish, finicky beings, and are not known for having good morals. They seem not to care what race their friends are, and many of their friends they feel no real affection for. However, once they feel true friendship towards someone, they are surprisingly loyal and true friends. There are both water and fire types of sirens. The water type can breathe under water, and are often brunette or black haired with brown or green eyes, while the fire sirens are impervious to flame (they are known to play with it), and are blond or red haired with blue eyes. They account for about 10% of the 'pure' population.

I'll be looking for one siren.

The Rawsain:
The second least numerous 'pure' race, perhaps 2% of the population, the Rawsain are exceptionally powerful. It is suspected that they are not an indigenous race of Hainius, as their history stretches back for a mere few hundred years. The Sirens, Angels, were's history goes back ages and ages. However, it could be that other races were simply more determined to keep their history alive, and, for that reason, wrote the stories down and memorized them, while Rawsains did not start recording their history until later. This is left up to the reader's own speculation, as is the question of where the Rawsain came from if they are not native to Hainius.

The Rawsain lived apart from werewolves before the humans came, and it is said they had many machines and devices that were lost when their race was all but wiped out by the humans, who, believing the Rawsain dangerous and less than their own race, killed hundreds off before the Rawsain even realized what was happening. Most of the survivors then became ill with human illness, and died off in that way. Those who remained after that either took up living with the humans, disguising themselves to peacefully coexist, or took to the far east, far from human civilization.

The humans realized the folly of killing off the Rawsain decades later, but by then, of course, those who were living with humans were quite comfortable in their obscurity, and those who had moved far away wanted nothing to do with the humans.

Rawsain are identical to humans in most ways, but possess one or two odd abilities. These abilities range from the ability to control shadows, to breathing underwater, to telepathy.

I'll be looking for one Rawsain.

Angels:
Angels are odd looking beings, having metallic colored hair and eyes, and large wings which are covered with a fine feathery material, the same color as their hair. They are known to have slight telepathic powers, and speak a language that only they themselves know, though they occasionally learn other dialects. They are generally shy beings, living in the mountains in the tops of very tall trees, and building huge nests instead of huts or houses like other humanoids. They are the rarest of beings, accounting for less than one percent of the 'pure' population. Angel mutts often have wings and oddly colored hair or eyes, though the telepathic abilities are generally not passed down to mutt offspring.

I'll be looking for one Angel.

Mutts:
The usual term for any twolegs who is the offspring of two or more races is 'mutt.' These mutts vary in abilities and appearance, based on parentage.

I'll be looking for two of these.

Kyren nodded, watching the blue dragon. "I am half-Siren. Also half Rawsain." His eyes skipped ofver the dragon's features, suddenly growing jealous. "Lucky you." He said, trying not to let the jealous tone swing through his voice. The little dragon seemed to flinch at this. The frills on its neck were obsurd, and they were making him quuite wary. "What kind of dragon are you, little one?" He asked, his head tilting.

Her bonded reacted immediatly. As she should have. Her tail began to sway, so far, she enjoyed the match. Shiya could feel the sharp eyes of the other male one that was sitting beside her bonded, on her. She resisted the urge to bare her teeth, and hearing his comment, flinched in frustration. Was there something she'd done wrong? "Yes, yes. She is lucky. I am too." She said this with another urge to bare her teeth. "But- you are not. No, no. I do not see your bonded. No, no, it has not come to meet you, y-" This was just about as angry as she could get. Shiya's tail lowered as she heard the next thing he said, gently skimming the floor. "My name is Shiya," She said, turning her attention to her bonded. "I'm an Eastern Cloudskimmer."

Larissa scooped up the dragon carefully, and held Shiya somewhat protectively in her arms loosely so she wouldn't be uncomfortable. She felt rather guilty when she heard a hint of jealousy in Kyren's voice. When Shiya snapped at Kyren, Larissa's voice became very soothing and gentle. "It's alright, Shiya. Kyren is a wonderful person. You can see it in his face if you look closely enough." Her adopted mother had always told her if she looked hard enough, she could always see if someone was good or not. 'Bad people' always had a certain dead look to their eyes, while 'good people' always had a certain light about themselves. "Kyren, look." She nodded to two dragons that where play fighting. "One of them is sure to be your bonded. It doesn't appear that they have chosen anyone quiet yet."

Kyren's head turned to observe the two fighting hatchlings. "I guess you're right." He said, sort of glad that she'd said he was a 'good' person. "Thanks." He said, referring to her complimenting him. He looked at the little dragon in her arms with satisfaction. The dragon seemed to relax, accepting the comfort of a human. "So, which one do you think it is?" He said, watching them with careful eyes.

Najade laughed, a high pitched, childish sound. Green eyes glittering, he stalked towards the Scaled Horse a few steps, then paused, drawing back in a position almost snakelike, and threw himself in that direction, front legs pawing at the other hatchling. There was a tiny nagging at the back of his mind, telling him he was overlooking something important.... But it was easily pushed asides, thoughts of the game at hand much more prominent.

Besides, whatever it was, it could wait, could it not?

Inanna yelped as Najade the serpent threw himself forward, giving her minimal time to duck out of the way. She scrambled to get away, laughing merrily and pushing the dragon with her feet. She growled, giving a final push and dashed away circling around him playfully. "Nice try!" In her merriment she had forgotten about her audience and the potential childishness she was acting with. The again, all was fun and game and why stop when the going was getting good.

Inanna danced forward and swiped at his feet with a sharp giggle. "Try Harder, Najade." She teased the other dragon.

Re: Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Hey. Sorry I haven't posted...haven't been able to come up with a post, really. All the dragons seem to be bothering the other characters and leaving her to watch. :P Just wanted to say I'm still here, though; haven't disappeared. :P

Re: Marked: For Better or for Worse.

So sorry, everyone! I've been busy.... I have been briefly checking in a few times, but haven't had time to actually post. However, I'm back and I don't foresee any such hustle in the very near future.

Re: Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Woah! Lots of posting. Sorry about the wait, I'll get posting right away and have it done by tonight if anything. I had a cold and have been running around my town trying to get things done. No excuses though. I'll post.

Edit: Uhmm...Actually I forgot I already posted..I guess that's commitment then. -_-...

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

I swear I typed this is Friday night... but oh well.

Sorry I haven't responded to anyone yet, I have the flu (or something, it's not pleasant) and haven't been able to get on a computer. I know for a fact that Citty is on vacation with family over the holidays and will be back Tuesday or Wednesday...

I have to go, but I hope to reply tomorrow if I'm feeling any better :/

Once again, sorry!

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Pffft.

That was out of the blue. Seems I got claimed by the pocket dragon! Again, another thing I wasn't expecting!

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

I'm still here, I just have to wait for citty

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Heye everyone! Just posting to show I'm still here. I haven't seen anyone post for a few days and I was wondering if no ones been able to post, busy, or what not. I really don't want this roleplay to end up dead...

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

It is new; it only showed up during the last couple of months. They had the slot for where the tagged characters were supposed to go, but to option to tag those characters. It really was only useful for chat, not actually rping....

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Ah. Is it a new feature? -is a relative newby to the site-

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Oops...I keep forgetting to check the characters that are tagged. :P I'm so used to that part not being there...

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Shiya is talking to Larissa. She did only tag Larissa and Kyren, and say that she appraoched the two who are sitting down next to each other. Since Kyren is her character, she can't be bonded to it. That leaves Larissa. However, I also have GM knowledge, so.... It's not only my awesome logic skills.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. It was one of those really dull, but really busy days.

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Umm...I don't think we all know who Shiya is trying to talk to...at least, I can't figure it out...

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Oh. My. Gosh.

I come back and find Faquel has been surrounded by THREE hatchlings. Talk about attention. Though people are different than hatchlings (and because Faquel is closer to dragons than to people), the attention is probably getting to him.

So much to include in one post. Gonna go start typing now. *-*

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

They are sort of trained.... For their two months or so of life, they are basically just taught the language by their bonded, and cared for. Flying lessons begin at two months, and the Cloudskimmers will probably be flying with ease within a few weeks of that, other dragons taking longer to get into the air well.

There isn't really a firm training. Basically, TGD will be there to help raise the hatchling until they are about 6months old, then he'll 'kick them out of the nest' so to speak.

Angel telepathy allows them to read minds, and though some angels can project thoughts, it takes concentration, and if you're in a room with several other people (which is generally when you might want to project a thought, so that it is private) with their thoughts getting into your head, your concentration isn't going to be great.

So... Yes, they can, but it generally takes years of training and/or an angel who has more control over their telepathy, which is also not unheard of.

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Sorry I haven't been posting, I've been working on creating a role play. I will get to work posting for this RP soon!

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

God, I remember having a conversation like this, but I can't remember, so I'll ask. For angel telepathy, I know that it comes in fits and what not, but is it able to read others thoughts AND maybe project a brief thought from the user into another's mind? I don't mean at the same time, I just mean either one could happen, when it happens.

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

I am very curious on how the whole learning process and how they dragons are trained... or if they are trained...?

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Haha, thanks. Najade is one for asking lots and lots of questions.....
I act full of myself quite a bit. It's a trait very common in Anonymice.

LaxMarie, could you please write in third person? Also, dragons don't speak mentally.... After being bonded, they can share emotions with their bonded, but even then it's only to an extent. Usually their emotions only effect their bonded when it is very, very powerful. Joy, deep love, anger, misery, extreme pain and other such strong emotions are shared 'automatically,' but not the entire feeling. Let's say that one of the twolegged bondeds gets very, very angry. The dragon might feel a bit upset, but would not feel the full extent of their anger.

However, some dragons and twolegs have a connection stronger than others, and usually they all reach a point where they can control what emotions and feelings go across the 'link,' though that often takes years.

Re: [OOC] Marked: For Better or for Worse.

Yeah :) Umm, what age is Grandine?
