a character in “Marked: For Better or for Worse”, originally authored by Cittycat100, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Name: Kyren Cain
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: 'Mutt' (Siren/Rawsain)

Appearance: Well, being the Mutt that I am, I have crimson-red hair that I believe I inherited from my Siren mother, and the human-like features of a Rawsain. My hair lengths down to somewhere between the bottom of my ears and just above my shoulders. My eyes are a bright metallic gold, and my skin is Alabaster like the moon.

Personality

Personality: My personality, eh? Well, to tell you the truth- I get pretty pissed off sometimes, and I bet you can guess what my temper is like. Yeah, not very good. I spew just about every word that comes to my hot-head. I used to be a perfect little boy- until I hit the age of ten. Up until then, my parents had taught me to use my manners, be polite, and other crap like that. I'd done everything they'd asked up until then. My tenth birthday celebration. Worst. Day. Ever. My parents were so busy with my cousin's pouty story about how he'd been attacked by a wild dog- that they'd forgotten to celebrate my tenth. I snapped. Now they still pursue me, trying to get me to be nice- or other things like that. Which- of course, being me, I'd replied with a cold-shouldered : 'Why don't you.' I guess I can say that the whole thing backfired, making me the opposite of what they were aiming for. On the other hand, I actually do follow what my parents have planted into my head. I am mannered, I am polite, and my parents say, I'm a gentleman. I can be kind, even though I may not wan to be at times. By the way, I love to whistle, I'm guessing it's something I've inherited from my mother. I'm not as musically talented as my cousins, but I sure can whistle a nice tune.

History

History: I'm not going to go too far back, only because I don't want to bore you with my life story. As I'd said before, my parents were really kind to me, and up until my tenth birthday, I was kind to them too. Well- I'm not saying I'm a COMPLETE jerk when it comes to them although, they can be pretty freaking annoying. I love them a lot and will sacrifice my life for theirs. I'm sure they'd do the same for me. Just this past little while, we'd decided to move to a new village, near Kespian. Somewhere where my mother could see most of her family. I honestly hate the place- Sirens all around, and worst of all- my cousins. Their smooth words get to me sometimes, and I hate it. Congrats, cousins, my life is miserable once again. Anyways, when I saw the home we'd be living in, I was pleased. Little did I know, that the oh-so-wonderful home came with an unexpected welcoming gift. The mark. That stupid, cursed, mark. Well, that's what I thought it was the first time I'd seen it. But now I know it's a privilege to have that, wonderful, special, mark. The day that I got it was just about a month ago, the exact second I'd walked inside the new house. It started to slowly fade in, covering a small part of my jawline on the right side of my face. I didn't know this yet, but at the time, I'd seen my parents busying themselves with fixing the place up. I decided to be useful and help with bringing some logs over to the pit outside, were we'd be having a little cooking-fire for the fish my father had caught a couple minuets ago. I placed the firewood down and sat on the grass, leaning back and looking at the sky. The sun was setting, and the moon was rising. Soon, I'd fallen asleep to the soft murmurs of my parents. After a half-hour of napping, I woke to find myself sitting across from my parents, who were side-by-side. My father bent down beside the fire, lighting it slowly. I could see my mother from across the fire, her face was plastered with curiosity. Obviously, she was thinking if I was impervious to flames, I'd be able to light the fire easily. But I believe my cousins have burnt me before, testing to see if I could withstand the scolding heat of the flames. It was highly impossible, since my mother was from the water Siren part of the family. Plus, my father could breathe underwater, too- making me the perfect, (crossbred) water child. I scooted closer to the fire, picking up a foot-long twig and poked it. My father shot a quick warning glance at me, and of course, I shrugged it off and continued with my poking. “Stop, Kyren.” My father warned again, and I reluctantly stopped, standing up. But.. as I did, the welcoming gift appeared when the fire spewed a dark cloud of smoke in my face. I growled a little, and my father came rushing over. “Kyren, are you alright? Does your face hurt?” He asked, running a large thumb over the lower part of my cheek. My eyes hurt, smoke had gotten into them. “Yeah- I'm fine. It's just my eyes...” I muttered, rubbing them again. I opened my eyes to see my father's face, wary. He muttered something to my mother and she ran, I couldn't hear their voices, but I saw my mother return with a small pocket book in her hands. The very last thing I heard before I'd passed out was; “Kyren, you've been blessed with a mark.” It was neither my mother nor my fathers voice, since I couldn't hear either one of them. But something clear and in my head.

So begins...

Kyren's eyes flickered across the landscape, making sure to capture it all. He turned, tilting his head upward and looking up at the sky. His gaze fell a bit, landing on a outline of the mouth of a cave. That must be it. He thought, and made a quick note to himself about the cave's surroundings- in case he had to come back. He began to walk, noticing the scenery as he trudged on. He had no intent on hurrying, why did he have to? Even if so- I hope I won't be late for this supposed "Matching". his skin began to grow warm, the sun was shining down on it, giving it a strange glow. One much different from what the moon gave him. From the outside, he'd probably look like a normal person, with really strange hair and eyes. Someone would accuse him of being a fire siren for sure, well, he looked like he could be someone who were a flame himself. His hair and eyes matched to make wonderful fire-like colors, the only thing was, he was a half-siren. And a water one at that. He also had a hint of telepathy from his father, but the headaches he gained from it were not to his liking. As he walked on, a familiar yet annoying voice filled his head. Zurafina. He saw her and swerved, trying to avoid her. It was that siren, the one he'd been forced to meet. "Please, I already have a big enough headache. Stop." He commanded her, his voice was obviously not as smooth as his cousins- or as convincing.

Shiya could hear rckus outside her egg, she couldn't wait. The voices were closed off a bit, she knew that one was the one she knew as her parent. She shifted, trying to get a better source of where the voices were coming from. She turned herself around, noticing how the voices were behind her. Shiya could hear them almost clearly now, but didn't quite understand what they'd been talking about. She shifted again, feeling something close to her move. She emitted a light grumbling sound, signalling the egg next to her- saying, 'I'm awake' Her small claws scratched around a bit, not trying to break open the egg yet.

"Please, I already have a big enough headache. Stop."

She knew that voice. Slowly Zura turned and looked behind her and gaped. “The Half-Blood?” she gawked, referring to a term her parents said was a little more polite than 'Mutt'. Her eyes scanned over Kyren quickly as her mind conjured reasons of why he might be here of all places. Did he stalk her?
A memory jumped into her mind, one her and the Half-Blood, he was one of the 'eligibles', and had brought her a bracelet once. She could still remember the sour look on his face as he handed it to her. His parents had probably made him do it anyways. Then she saw the Mark. “Oh no way. How in the hell is this even possible?” she exclaimed aloud.

Before she let her mind try to figure out how coincidental it was that two people were Marked from the same village, she remembered what he had just said. “Did you just try to do what I think you just tried to do?!” she shrilled, eyes flashing. This poor excuse for a half-Siren and his poor excuse for a voice couldn't even control the whim of a mere fly and he had the audacity to try to control her actions!

She couldn't let herself get so worked up about a dumb man, and as she silently seethed an idea came to mind.

“Kyren Cian,” she sang sweetly “Escort me to the Great Dragon's Cave, oh strong and valiant one. Skip along the path with me in merriment! Sing my praises as we go, as the words have sat on your lips as liquid fire, dying to slip off and into the world.” Zura poured on the alluring aspect of her voice, a sly smile upon her lips.

She had just secured a safe and entertaining passage to the cave, and she was content.

Kyren's eyes seemed to take on a dullness, he obeyed, standing beside Zurafina. He tilted his head and smiled, nodding. "As you wish." He said, walking forward, his eyes set on the outline of the mouth of the cave. "Youe hair shines like the beautiful stars in the night sky." He sang, and began to skip. "Your eyes are like the deep unknown blue of all the different seas in the world!" His voice rang out to sing another praise. He continued skipping, creating a clear trail for her to follow by kicking away everything in her path. Including some small forest animals. "Your gown reminds me of a beautiful violet rose that collects the morning's first dew." He chimed, in the back of his head it was telling him that he was reluctantly doing this, and he hadn't wanted to in the first place.

Well, he needed some vocal lessons and he wasn't rhyming, but at least it was something. Zurafina followed him deeper into the forest, and closer to the cave. She didn't bother to skip along beside him, deciding to walk at an even paced, slow walk. A few times Kyren would kick objects out of the way like a stick or something, much to her amusement. She kept her head raised and continued a low little tune, barely a whisper of noise. She could see the cave getting closer and closer to her, and she was feeling uneasy. This was going to change everything, and such a gigantic shift was tearing at her seams.

"Early one morning, just as the sun was rising. I heard a maiden call from the valley below." she mumbled-sang to herself as she kept on. Kyren did a little skip-circle around her and called out another complement before skipping ahead again. She could hear voices and sounds close down the path, a sign that they were almost there. Should she let the Half-Blood go? No. It was too much fun, and besides, it would be easier to enter together, make the two of them seem more confident.

She wondered what would happen if she just never showed up... if she just turned around and went home, Marked forever but never bonded. But... the dragon might be trapped in an egg until she arrived, and as self-centered as Zura might be sometimes, even she knew that wasn't right. She let out a large sigh and continued singing. "Oh don't deceive me, oh never leave me. How could you use a poor maiden so?"

Her parents hadn't been very eager to see her off, and offered to sent someone with her. Zurafina had declined, knowing that the someone was probably Arteus. She had spent her last day away from everyone, sitting up at a high peak that looked over the valley that held her village. To be brutally honest she slept away most of the day as it was so quiet and peaceful up there. When she finally woke, she made her way down and back to her house, but she did not enter. How could she say goodbye to all she ever knew? What words would she use? Not knowing what to do or how to go about things, she instead sneaked into the stables and rode off without a sound.

“Thus sang the poor maiden, her sorrows bewailing. Thus sang the poor maiden in the valley bellow.” she finished softy, just as she and Kyren broke from a cluster of trees and in front of the cave. Zurafina turned to Kyren and said “Enough.” He ceased the skipping and whatever praise he was just about to bellow, and looked around, blinking. “We're here, I think.” Zura motioned with hand to the cave. “Unless there are more than one caves... What do we do? Just strut right in?” she asked him.

"They can hear quite well from in the egg, and some of them can see you through the shell a little.... Though others can only listen to what is outside." The Great Dragon eyed the eggs fondly, eyelids drooping as he thought about the little lives inside... Ah, what a wide world they would have to face when they hatched, though they would have help facing it.

As Damien spoke, the copper scaled creature turned his head towards the Werewolf. "They will hatch when all the Marked have arrived. And one will choose each of you." Unless something went horribly wrong.... He chased this thought from his mind with a loud growl, directed towards himself. Such thoughts were not to be thought during such a happy time. A noise from outside the cave caught his attention. Singing?

Moving gracefully despite his great bulk, the dragon walked to the entrance of his cave and looked bemusedly at the two newest arrivals. "Greetings, Marked ones. Please, come in and see the eggs."

Najade, seeing the two-legs draw closer, gave another shrill whistle. Though they appeared as mere sketchy figures through his thick, glass like egg shell, the sight was exhilarating. Soon he would hatch, and meet his partner. Ah, this was exciting. He chirped cheerfully to himself a few times, then began to practice talking again in a gurgling voice.

Kyren shook his head again. "Whoah- uhm, I don't know. We-" A large voice came from inside the cave. It greeted them, and Kyren knew it immediately as a dragon. It was a copper-like color, large and magnificent. "Thank-you." He said, greeting the dragon with a small smile. A bubble of excitement swarmed inside him. He was about to meet his match. His dragon. His bonded. Kyren's crimson hair took on a darker shade as he began to walk forward, inside the cave. It was brighter than he'd imagined, and instantly his eyes adjusted. "What a cozy place." He said, trying to be nice. I should be polite, this is one in a million times that I'll be thanking my parents for their shining examples of politeness. he thought awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. He'd just noticed that his mind was blank after he'd complained about his headache. "Hey!" He yelled, whipping around to glare at Zurafina. "You used me! Munipulated me! Tricked me! Hypnotized me! How dare you?!" The words spewed out of his mouth in hot rage, and he crossed his arms, furrowing his brow and shaking his head in displeasure.

Zurafina curtseyed lowly to the Great Dragon and said "Well met." She didn't bother stating her name, and instead entered the large cave confidently. Suddenly the Half-Blood turned on her and yelled. He was not very happy at what she had done, but was there anything really wrong with her actions? He had tried the same thing on her, and the only difference was that she had not failed. Not knowing how to respond to his heated anger, she just stared at him blankly for a few seconds. "Let's not dwell on past actions." She ended up saying softly, batting her eyes and pouring a little sweetness and allure into her voice. Hopefully that would calm him down.
She then returned her attention to the cave, taking in all that was around her. There were eight eggs, but not six other figures. There was a tall, black haired man near the eggs, and close by him was a pretty girl with white hair. An angel boy stood not too far away, one of his wings was wrapped and looked off. The last person present was a girl about her own age, with unique hair that was coloured both black and white. This was certainly something. She had never been around this many species at once. In fact, she had never met a dragon, werewolf, or an angel before. She inspected each person carefully, taking in what information she viewed as valuable and stored it away.

Now that she was here she was impatient, even though she knew she shouldn't be. Who knows how long the other's had waited? She suddenly wished for the last two to arrive, and then everything could get started. The dragons. She tentatively walked up to the eggs, keeping a little distance between her and the man with the black hair and the girl with the white hair. Her eyes scanned over each egg and she felt her curiosity grow. Which one would choose her? She couldn't help but let out a gentle "Hello." To all the eggs assembled, her blood pumping, knowing they could hear her, and also hearing them as they moved about.

Larissa turned her head as two others came in. It was a girl who she assumed was a siren, based on her appearance and her voice and a boy with crimson hair. His voice wasn't nearly as musical as the blonde's, but it was still beautiful nonetheless. He probably was at last part siren. Maybe this boy was a mutt like her- that was slightly comforting. She greeted to two with a gentle smile. Just then the newly arrived boy turned and yelled at the siren unexpectedly, causing Larissa to jump.
Yes, the girl was definitely a siren. She had apparently used her voice to convince him to do something. As the siren calmed the boy with her voice, she looked over the people. There were eight eggs, so they where still waiting for two more people to come. Patiently she looked back down at the eggs and quickly jerked her hand back when she felt a tiny movement beneath the shell. She let out a very soft, musical laugh as she brushed her fingertips over the strange marking on the egg.

Upon being lead into the Great Dragon's Cave by Aquaea, Faquel's mind blurred after meeting the massive creature himself. Indeed, the encounter had caused him to retreat behind his "hero" merely out of shyness, but the blending of hellos and new faces kept his mind off the dull pain in his injured wing. Faquel was about to make his way to somewhere less crowded when the Great Dragon announced that all the marked had gathered and it was time to watch them hatch!

The moment of truth. I finally meet the reason why I have this mark on my face. I wonder which one is mine? What kind of dragon will it be? Is it a girl? A boy? Gah, I'd wish they'd just hatch! Question after question amassed in Faquel's mind as he, along with the others, watched the eggs intently.

Kyren's eyes turned to stone as he watched the dragons hatch. "This is so..." He couldn't finish. He watched them, feeling worse as he saw each dragon choose their owner. His eyes darted from the remaining ones, nervously. He raised a hand to his hair and ran his fingers through it. His mind spun as he switched from each dragon. Which one? Which one? That one? Maybe... That one? Possibly... That one! Mmm maybe not... What about- Oh screw it. He rolled his shoulders back and relaxed, tensing up every time he saw one make the slightest movement. He wasn't scared of dragons, but he was scared of who he would be matched with. So many questions... And there's only one being who can answer them for me! But which one is it? Is it going to be a water dragon? Fire? I hope not... Wait- nevermind. Any dragon will be a good dragon to me. I'll make sure of it.

Larissa glanced down at her shirt when Nuraki made a tiny rip. She really didn't care. The tiny dragon looked up at her, seeming proud, and Larissa smiled at her gently. Nuraki had a rather adorable expression. Slowly she told her she needed to investigate more, but she might come back. She smiled and nodded. "I understand. Bonding is a serious thing, not to be done hastily." she watched the dragon make his way towards the angel. She reminded herself to talk to the angel once the bonding was done.
Her ocean blue eyes fell open the other half blood again. He wasn't with a dragon, either. Quietly, she walked over to him and sat down next to him with a welcoming smile. She didn't say anything, just folded her legs undernieth herself and glanced up at him.

Kyren turned his head to look at Larissa. He was wondering what she was- he could see the Siren part in alot of her, well, being a half-blood, he could tell. He moved his whole body around so he was fully facing her. He bent down to sit on his heels and smiled at her. "I'm Kyren. I'm still wondering who my bonded is..." He glanced at the remaining ones, and then at the last, perfectly untouched egg. Kyren rolled on his heels till he was now crossed-legged beside her. He glanced at the egg and then back to Larissa, feeling wary.

Shiya rumbled a bit, afraid to exit her egg. She had used her horns to carve a little egg-dragon, keeping her company. "You won't hurt me, will you little Eggburt? You will stay inside here, with me! Yes, we won't have to go outside, and meet all those new people." Her voice wavered a bit, and she shivered. Her name resembled her best. Shy-a. She was truly shy, and afraid of who her bonded might be. She sighed, and started to nod, agreeing with herself. Shiya could hear a small scratching sound, behind her. A small beam of light entered the cave, and the inhabitant was shocked. "Out I go." She mumbled, not being able to stop her head nodding. Her horns broke down the egg, making the shell bits decay and more light began to sprout inside. Finally, the whole back part of the egg had vanished, and now she swiftly moved backward, careful not to cut her frill on the sharp egg shell bits. Her tail swayed, and she shifted so her body could fit through the back opening. She tumbled out, loosing her balance for a few seconds. Then, acting nonchalant, she regained balance and stood upright, eyes shifting to the roof in embarrassment. Her eyes fell a bit, leading to the two sitting in front of her. Her eyes gleamed at the sight of her bonded, and she stepped forward, wings spreading wide and tail swaying again. She shook the wings for a few seconds, making sure to get moisture off of them. She lowered them slowly, placing them at her sides in a neat bird-like way. "You are my bonded." She said, her voice as strong as it could get. "My name is Shiya."

Kyren nodded, watching the blue dragon. "I am half-Siren. Also half Rawsain." His eyes skipped ofver the dragon's features, suddenly growing jealous. "Lucky you." He said, trying not to let the jealous tone swing through his voice. The little dragon seemed to flinch at this. The frills on its neck were obsurd, and they were making him quuite wary. "What kind of dragon are you, little one?" He asked, his head tilting.

Her bonded reacted immediatly. As she should have. Her tail began to sway, so far, she enjoyed the match. Shiya could feel the sharp eyes of the other male one that was sitting beside her bonded, on her. She resisted the urge to bare her teeth, and hearing his comment, flinched in frustration. Was there something she'd done wrong? "Yes, yes. She is lucky. I am too." She said this with another urge to bare her teeth. "But- you are not. No, no. I do not see your bonded. No, no, it has not come to meet you, y-" This was just about as angry as she could get. Shiya's tail lowered as she heard the next thing he said, gently skimming the floor. "My name is Shiya," She said, turning her attention to her bonded. "I'm an Eastern Cloudskimmer."

Larissa scooped up the dragon carefully, and held Shiya somewhat protectively in her arms loosely so she wouldn't be uncomfortable. She felt rather guilty when she heard a hint of jealousy in Kyren's voice. When Shiya snapped at Kyren, Larissa's voice became very soothing and gentle. "It's alright, Shiya. Kyren is a wonderful person. You can see it in his face if you look closely enough." Her adopted mother had always told her if she looked hard enough, she could always see if someone was good or not. 'Bad people' always had a certain dead look to their eyes, while 'good people' always had a certain light about themselves. "Kyren, look." She nodded to two dragons that where play fighting. "One of them is sure to be your bonded. It doesn't appear that they have chosen anyone quiet yet."
