Ryuu Noman.

"Of course I'm adorable!"

0 · 199 views · located in The Great Dragon's Cave.

a character in “Marked: For Better or for Worse”, as played by SupposedlyAnonymous

Description

Name: Ryuu Noman

Age: 10

Gender: Male

Race: Werewolf

Appearance: Coarse, curly, messy golden red hair that hangs almost to chin length frames a heart shaped, puckish face and cheeks speckled with freckles, the first word that probably comes to mind upon viewing this little boy is 'trouble.' Large, deep blue, mischievous eyes only add to this idea, though these eyes can take on the look of a woebegone, starving waif or innocent child in the blink of an eye. Small for his age, and rather underweight, Ryuu is about the size of the average seven or eight year old, and often uses his diminutive size and acting ability to stir pity in the people he begs from. The black marking covers most of his forehead, and runs down onto one cheek.

As a wolf, Ryuu is still obviously a puppy. Huge paws, large eyes and a longer-than-average, , soft, shaggy dark golden coat display this quite well. He has white markings on his paws, and a white 'mask' goes over his eyes, as well as some mahogany bridling in his coat.

Personality

Clever, mischievous, Ryuu loves tricks and clever word games. Mature for his age, due to his rough background, he often displays his 'street sense.' However, he is also a bit insane and seems sadistic, though a lot of this stems from his 'orange and blue,' or extremely alien, morality, and love of anything chaotic. Unless it puts him in serious danger, of course. The 'orange and blue' morality and love of chaos probably stems from rather nasty mental issues that have never been addressed.

Incredibly manipulative, he will go to great trouble to gain the trust of someone if the rewards are high enough, and may stay 'loyal' for a matter of years before abandoning them, often because he sees there being a higher reward in placing his loyalties elsewhere. Though deep down, he really does like the idea of being bonded and having a real friend, he also finds the idea of being held to this loyalty a bit frightening.

His acting talent and ability to quickly think of clever ways out of the predicaments he gets himself into allude to a high intelligence, though he cannot read or write, and has never cared enough to try (and would find it frustrating if he did try.) He also loves sweets. Give him any sort of candy, cookie, or cake and he'll love you for an hour. He is also quite aware of his adorableness.

History

His parents and most of his family died from an unknown illness when he was about 2, and his teenage brother raised him on the streets for the majority of his life. His brother committed suicide three years ago, and Ryuu begged and stole for a living since then.

When he glanced in a bucket of water and spotted the mark, his first thought was that people would assume it was a bruise and it could actually help him with his begging, without the pain that usually accompanies the bruise. His second thought was 'Oh, man. Guess I have to go settle down somewhere.... Maybe they'll have a reliable food source.'

Bonded: Unknown.

Ryuu was make his lazy, meandering way through the Chirang woods. He was fairly content and at ease with the world (though a bit hungry; stupid rabbits never did seem to be around when you needed them). It was a nice day. Not too hot, not too cold... Of course, the gloomy skies hinted at bad weather in the near future, but for now, all was good.

Though his better-than-human senses were keeping close tabs on his environment, the werepup's mind was wandering. Soon to be a dragon's bonded, hm? This might be cool. 'Sides, maybe being loyal to a companion wasn't as scary as it sounded. Might even be fun. At least he wouldn't have to chase rabbits by himself anymore. Actually, he could probably even have venison every night if he wanted.

With thoughts on dragons and food running through his mind, it was a little while before Ryuu became aware of the sharp, scaly, reptilian scent that lingered in the air this part of the woods. Maybe he was near the cave? That would be good. Maybe the Dragon in charge of hatching would have food..... Hatching.... This would be an interesting experience. What would the baby dragons be like? Would one choose him? Would the other two-legs be mean?

He hoped there would be something to eat.

Appearing almost like a gargantuan, finely made statue crafted from hammered copper, the only thing that marked the Great Dragon as a living creature was the breathing, which was visible if one looked closely, and the great, glimmering, golden eyes which took in everything. After a moment of regarding this first Marked, who had arrived in such an odd fashion, the reptile spoke.

"Greetings, Marked one. I am pleased to see you arrived safely, and trust the journey was not unpleasant." He gave a brief, polite nod, the tip of his tail twitching ever so slightly.

~~~~
Ryuu halted and froze in place upon hearing a loud rustle of leaves, head swiveling back and forth and nose in the air. His senses just weren't good enough in this form..... He could maybe... Yes. The sweetly familiar scent of a human being. It was almost comforting. He had grown up in human cities, after all.
He moved quickly ahead and trying not to let his footsteps be heard by the human he was approaching. After all, it wouldn't be any good to startle them or, if they turned out to be an enemy, alert them to his presence. Peering through a cover of bushes, the red haired child considered what he saw. Human with a map.... Didn't seem to be carrying weapons... Might have some food?
With the hope of food in mind, the boy stepped out into the clear, a grin on his puckish, freckled face. "Hello!"
Songrose jumped, startled, when she heard another voice. She paused, looking over the boy who had shown up. He didn't seem unfriendly...at least, from what she could tell. Another of the marked, maybe? She hoped so; then it might be easier to be going along without using the map. That was, if he knew the way. She nodded, trying to reply, "Hello," but could barely raise her voice enough to be heard. She had expected this, so she raised her hand a little in greeting, so even if he didn't hear, the general meaning was pretty clear.
She shot another brief glance at the map in her hand before letting that hand fall to the side; she wouldn't look at it unless she really needed to. She struggled for a second for courage to raise her voice, and then to even figure out what she wanted to sa, without trying to be offensive. Some people were sensitive. "Umm...are you...out here...because of the...the dragons?" she finally forced herself to say, already feeling that she may have embarrassed herself.
"Uh-huh." Ryuu gestured to the dark mark which covered most of his forehead and part of one cheek, eying her with clear, childish blue eyes. "Are you lost?" Generally, from his personal experience, people who looked so carefully at their maps didn't know where they were going. And she didn't seem like the type that traveled much..... Hm.
After a half second of considering whether to ask if she had any food, he went on. "If you are, I can help. I know the way. I can smell it." He beamed at her proudly, then stopped grinning to regard her with obvious curiosity. "Do you have any food?"
Songrose hesitated before nodding. "I am...a little lost..." She was hesitant to allow herself to be led around, but she would take much longer trying to find her way on her own. "I suppose...it might be easier...if you help..." She took a moment to think, though. He could smell the way? She thought for a moment before deciding that he was probably a werewolf. How much did that really mean, though? She shrugged and looked into her pack, fishing through until she found some of the bread she had brought with her. He could smell the way, but didn't bother to smell the bread? Or maybe the dragons just had a strong scent, or something...she shrugged it off.
She handed the bread to him. It was only fair; if he was going to help her, then she should help him, too. "Here; my parents...put a bit much...food in my pack...anyway..." She was still hesitant to talk, but was more than willing to offer some food. It was only fair, she reminded herself. "Then...we should find our way...to the dragons...eggs...if you don't mind...helping me out?"
Ryuu took the bread and began eating as if he had been starving for days, not really bothering to chew, but tearing chunks off and swallowing them. After he had devoured most of it in this fashion, he gulped down the last bite he had taken and grinned.
"'Course I don't mind. Actually, we're only a little ways away, now. 'Least, I think so..... Dunno, really, but as far as I can smell, it seems that way." He paused and thought for a moment, stuffing the last piece piece of bread into his mouth as he did so, then pointed in a seemingly random direction and swallowed. "That way. It probably isn't far, even if it is farther than I think."
And with that, the werepup started in that direction, pausing after a few steps to glance over his shoulder and make sure his new traveling companion was following. Of course, the path he had chosen wasn't very clear.... He was having to push bushes, small saplings, and other large plant life out of his way as he went. But he could smell the dragon... It wouldn't be far now.
Songrose bit her tongue at his eating manners. She ouldn't properly call them table manners, really; not when they were ouside and not actually at a table. Still, she wasn't going to say anything to him at the moment. She followed as he started off, struggling to keep up through the bushes and branches in the way. She hoped he was right; that it wasn't very far from the cave with the dragon and the eggs...so that she ould get this journey over with. She was tired, and wanted rest more than anything else; she wasn't even really hungry.
Still, she wasn't about to argue with her travelling companion. She didn't like arguments and fights, and she definitely didn't want to upset her travelling companion. That would lead to her being lost in the woods. she kept the map in her hand, but didn't bother to look at it. Not when the werewolf was being so nice and leading her to the cave like this. She rubbed, somewhat self-consciously, at the mark on her own face, covering up a good deal of the left cheek. It had become a habit almost as soon as it had shown up.
She wasn't overly fond of silence, but didn't know much about mkaing conversation herself. Instead, she continued to struggle through bushes, saplings, and bushes, nearly tripping a few times over small rocks that she didn't see. How the werewolf could keep going on like this was beyond her, unless it was just something that werewolves could do. Or maybe humans could, too; she had never really been a physically strong human.
Wiggling through the last little bits of plant life, Ryuu found himself int he clearing in front of the cave. That had not been far at all. "We're here!" He called to his traveling companion, then sniffed the air, trying to pinpoint all the smells. A werewolf. He could definitely smell the werewolf. A few siren-y scents.... And an odd, almost bird smell. Only it wasn't a bird smell. It was too human-ish to be a bird. He took another deep breath through his nose. An... Angel maybe? He had never met one, but he guessed they might smell like birds.
Of course, overpowering all these assorted smells was the odor of dragon. A sharp, scaly, green scent. Not bad at all, really, though he figured it would get old quick. He glanced backwards to see if the human that had followed him had caught up yet, deciding that he may as well escort her into the cave.
Songrose looked up as Ryuu said they were where they needed to be, glancing over the scene before her. The cave was more interesting than she would have thought...a little bit larger, maybe, but there was probably a much larger dragon to protect the eggs. She should have thought about that fact before, she thought. She caught up to the werewolf, looking over the cave still.
"You were right...it wasn't all that far..." They had been much closer than she had thought, anyway. At least, she had thought for a while that she had maybe gotten herself lost. If she had been positive on where she had been going, she wouldn't have asked the werewolf to help her find her way there. Not that it would have mattered much; he was going to the same place, anyway.
"Of course I was right." Ryuu chirped, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the cave with childish impatience. "C'mon, I bet they're waiting for us. There's a Siren and a Werewolf and a big dragon. Or lotsa little dragons.... Anyway, it smells dragonish and-" He stopped talking when he saw the Great Dragon, wide eyes growing wider with awe.
When he finally found his tongue again, the words came out in a sort of half squeak. "Um.... Guess it's just one big dragon? Hi, Mr. Dragon, sir....." Was that how you addressed a dragon? Probably not, but he hoped the big reptile wasn't hungry at the moment. It did have a whole forest full of animals... Why would he eat a chewy little werepup?
The Great Dragon smiled, clearly excited, and gave the two newcomers a welcoming nod before addressing the group as a whole. "The last Marked have arrived. It is time for the hatching!" Ryuu blinked at this, then smiled. If nothing else, this hatching would be fun to watch.
As if a mental switch had been flipped, Najade stopped his burbling and noise making. He knew. It was time to hatch, time to find his bonded, it was time. It was time! Time to meet the world. Time to go from egg to dragon. He had been waiting so long.... Smashing his body against the inside of the egg, he created a long crack in the shell, then prepared to repeat the process and break free of his glasslike world.
Upon being lead into the Great Dragon's Cave by Aquaea, Faquel's mind blurred after meeting the massive creature himself. Indeed, the encounter had caused him to retreat behind his "hero" merely out of shyness, but the blending of hellos and new faces kept his mind off the dull pain in his injured wing. Faquel was about to make his way to somewhere less crowded when the Great Dragon announced that all the marked had gathered and it was time to watch them hatch!
The moment of truth. I finally meet the reason why I have this mark on my face. I wonder which one is mine? What kind of dragon will it be? Is it a girl? A boy? Gah, I'd wish they'd just hatch! Question after question amassed in Faquel's mind as he, along with the others, watched the eggs intently.
"Oh...." Najade's pupils widened as he looked at the wound. Being so young and protected until now by his comfortable little egg, he wasn't exactly sure what effect the 'arrow' had on the flying two-legs. He honestly didn't even know what pain or hurt was. But if something kept a winged creature from flying, it had to be pretty bad, right?
After a moment of thought along this path, he brought his attention back to the two-legs. "What a arrow?" He knew what muscle was, and he knew what pierce was, or he at least had a general idea of what those two things were, but the word arrow was completely new and strange. However, he had already decided that these arrow things were no good whatsoever. He would be careful to keep away from them; they sounded very aggressive and dangerous. They must fly, too, to catch a flying creature and injure them like they had this two legs... Flying, dangerous, and aggressive. Very frightening indeed.
"And your name. What your name?" Najade suddenly realized that it might be beneficial to have a title to attach to this twolegs. Standing up on his back two pairs of legs, he scratched at his stomach with the other four clawed paws as he looked earnestly up at the copper haired two-legs.
Ryuu watched all the hatchlings, chewing on his upper lip in a nervous manner. Would any of the hatchlings choose him? Did he want any of the hatchlings to choose him? It was all very nervewracking. The werepup knelt on the floor and chewed on one of his fingers as he thought.
Solaris heard the Great Dragon speak, and his body reverberated, knowing that now was the time to hatch. He listened as the siblings of his kind hatched, and knew that he should join them. But how was one to go about getting out of his egg? Well, he knew that he wanted out, and so he concentrated on this feeling of out. He felt his egg begin to shake slowly, though not violently or in a rocking motion, more like vibration. The vibration picked up speed and emitted a low, pure note that rumbled off the rocks. The sound was soon consumed by the rest of the world, and didn't get very far, but to Solaris it was a great loud sound that went through every bone in his body.
As the speed increased, so did the pitch of the note, until it was at a frequency that most might not be able to hear, but it wasn't hard on the ears. Inside of the egg was completely still, it was only the shell that showed signs of movement. Finally, the egg shattered, making a muffled noise similar to broken glass. The shards of the egg didn't fly everywhere, but rather, sort of remained suspended in the air long enough for the naked eye to catch it. Then they fell to the floor and made light clattering sounds, like pins dropping.
The viscous liquid that had surrounded and protected Solaris spilled out and took the dragon with it. Now that he didn't have a layer of fluid around him, things got a lot louder. Solaris immediately opened his eyes and blinked a few times, the sudden change in light hurt his eyes. The first thing he noticed was the bright light that was coming from outside of the cave, at the entrance. The second thing his eyes found was the one hardest to miss, the Great Dragon. He was amazed and humbled my the mere size of the dragon, knowing that he must be very old, and that wisdom must come with his age.
The last thing he noticed had to be the twolegs, and the others of his kind. Everything was so new to him, his head was beginning to throb, but he welcomed it. His mind began to absorb this information. What kind of twolegs were they? And what kind of dragons were they, for that matter?
He could already see that some twolegs were being approached and questioned by other dragons, and Solaris almost wanted to walk up beside them and just... listen. He figured it was more like 'find a twoleg you might bond with, and talk'.
But everyone was so big here, it made his little world inside of his little egg seems so... uh, little. Then Solaris spotted a small twoleg, one of the smallest there. He didn't even think, he just acted, and moved his feet shakily one in front of the other, his wings were damp and clung to his body. In a few seconds he was by the little twolegs feet, and he looked up to meet where its eyes were located. What a funny way to stand, he thought, on two feet instead of on all four. To be honest, Solaris didn't enjoy craning his neck to view this person, and he didn't want to carry on a conversation as such. He reached his front two legs up and placed them on the back two, (or was it bottom two, he really couldn't tell with the two leg standing all funny) of the twoleg and made a scrabbling motion. “Down here!” he said in his most loud voice. “You down here!”
"Huh?" Ryuu looked down at his feet to see a hatchling pawing at his legs. Kneeling so that he could hear and see it better. What a nice little dragon.... All warm yellow, with a long tail.... Was there something wrong with the wings, or was it just new? Would this dragon be his bonded? Whether it would or not, it was quite cute.
Still absently wondering whether baby dragons could breath fire or whatever it was dragons breathed, he grinned at it. It? No, it sounded like a he. "Hello there." The dragon smelled new and fresh, and very dragon-y. Dragon-y, yes, that was the word. Lizards smelled more brown, so reptile-y would not be correct.
The twoleg knelt and Solaris felt a rush of relief go through him, now he didn't feel so small and insignificant. “Hello there.” said the little twoleg, and his mouth curved up and his whole face looked happy. Solaris tried to copy his face, and smirked a dragon smirk. He hoped that looked right.
Before he could say anything he both sensed, and saw movement close by him in the corner of his eye. He turned around and spotted another dragon, dark as anything, observing them. There was something in the way he carried himself that unsettled Solaris and made him become defensive. He pried his still-not-yet-dry wings from his sides and spread them out at their full width and height, making him appear much more larger than he actually was. He made no other move, and just stared back at the other dragon. He really wanted to reply to the nice twoleg, but he was too interested in what the other dragon might do. In fact, now he was becoming less wary and more excited, and he started to move his tail back and forth slowly. What had started out as a defensive instinct was now more of a game to Solaris. He didn't know whether to run around or tackle the other dragon in a playful wrestling way.
Songrose watched curiously as the dragons all found some person that they wanted to talk to. It seemed a little odd, but they all seemed to know who they were bonded with. She tilted her head curiously to one side as two went to the werewolf that had led her there. She watched, about to back away a step before it became a fight, but calmed when it seemed like he was being playful. It almost reminded her of a cat trying to play. She grinned and looked back to the werewolf; she felt a little bad that she hadn't gotten his name, but he hadn't offered, and hadn't asked for hers.
Still, she turned her attention to him, and the two dragon nearby. "...Seems like...you're kinda...popular...with the dragons..." she offered, hesitantly. She wouldn't be able to stand it if she had no one to talk to. Even at home, she talked with the animals there, even though they couldn't respond. Or, perhaps, because they couldn't respond. Either way, she felt uncomfortable trying to force conversation, but even more so when she couldn't hear all of the other conversations in the room.
Ryuu's attention went quickly from his scattered thoughts and back to the little yellow dragon as he felt it stiffen, following its gaze and seeing the larger, deeply black colored hatchling. Making a mildly amused sound in his throat, he watched its half aggressive, half playful movements. This could be.... Entertaining.
"...Seems like...you're kinda...popular...with the dragons..." Ryuu glanced at his traveling companion with a grin. "Guess so." He really wanted to ask if her hesitant speech was genetic or just out of nervousness, but wasn't in the mood to start a fight or make someone cry. A question for later, perhaps, when he felt like causing trouble. He was also a bit amused that the hatchlings seemed to like him; he wasn't known for being good with animals. Oh, well, no use pondering it. It was how it was, and that's as complicated as life needed to be. His focus went to the hatchlings again.
As the black one lunged forward, Ryuu grinned and watched its maneuvers. A strong little dragon indeed. Settling back into a more relaxed position, he surveyed the young dragon's antics with quiet amusement and interest.
