Songrose Liadon

"Well...I suppose...if I can learn something from this..."

0 · 186 views · located in The Great Dragon's Cave.

a character in “Marked: For Better or for Worse”, as played by Crystal Flamedance

Description

Name: Songrose Liadon

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Appearance: Songrose is about average height for her age and gender, although perhaps an inch or so shorter. She has long, straight black hair that reaches to just below her waist. Her eyes are a deep blue. She is rather thin, although somewhat athletic-looking, and has lightly tanned skin from being outdoors so much. While she is thin, she does have a slightly curvy figure, which is often covered by right clothing. Typically, she keeps to wearing darker colors; most often a long skirt with a long-sleeved shirt, even on warm days. However, on warmer days, she wears clothing that is thinner, and a slightly lighter color.

Bonded: This will be filled in later...

Personality

Personality: Songrose is a very quiet individual. She isn’t normally very talkative, except for her family. Even then, however, she doesn’t talk much with them. Being around other people frightens her; this is because she is unsure of herself and lacks confidence. She doesn’t react well to being teased, and often will hide away from people when this happens. She becomes embarrassed easily, and hides her embarrassment often by pulling hair into her face.

However, despite all of this, she is very loyal. She hasn’t had many friends, but she is extremely loyal to them, and to her family. She is also very curious. She makes it a point to learn all that she can, whether by reading or listening carefully. Her shy behavior keeps her from asking questions, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care what other people think. She’s very sensitive, both to comments about herself and to the way other people think and feel.

While she isn’t fond of company, she will try to help, if she can manage to do it without being caught in some embarrassing scene afterwards. She is naturally kind and helpful, though the only ones who really notice that are her family and the very few she has been able to help out.

With all of this, few would think of her as vain. However, her appearance is a must for her. At least, her hair is. The only time she ever gets really upset is when her hair turns out to be a big mess; because of this, she hates wind, and will do whatever she can to keep her hair from being a mess while in water, often continuously pulling her fingers through it to untangle it.

History

History: Songrose grew up on her own with her parents, living on the edge of a small forest near Frinoa, where they get most of their supplies from, and where her father has worked for several years as a swordsmith. Often, when she was little, her mother would take her along to go shopping for food and supplies that they would need, but she never much liked the place. After a while, she ended up staying home, of following her father to his workshop, watching him work. While she doesn’t talk much to her family anymore, she used to be very talkative, and would often ask him questions while he worked.

Perhaps that is where her curiosity was discovered. She quickly became attracted to the idea of learning, and one day being a scholar. To this extent, she watched everything and everyone around her, learning what she could, and asking her parents about what she couldn’t understand. Soon, she became tired of asking them questions; her curiosity had gotten to the point that they had no more answers for her, and so she stopped asking them altogether, choosing instead to observe and watch, to read and try to understand on her own.

Studying and learning about things that weren’t human very quickly became her favorite thing. She studied them, learning more about them, in an effort to learn to understand them. After all, it was only humans that she had a problem with; she hoped that, somehow, she’d be able to learn enough of the other races to get along better with them than with the humans. This, however, was dampened a bit when she found out she was marked.

Her parents were rather pleased to find that she was marked; they had hoped that it would mean that she would grow up, and start focusing on what she needed to know, rather than what she wanted to know. She thought, at first, that it meant she wouldn’t be able to study anymore; that it would be much harder to observe when she had a dragon there. However, after a bit of research into the dragons, she decided she was fine with it. After all, a fully-grown dragon would be more than capable of taking care of itself, and she could continue her observations and learning then. While she doesn’t know everything about dragons and other races, she has made it a point, while she’s there, to learn more about the dragons, and any of the other marked “two-legs.”

So begins...

Songrose sighed, glancing around herself. She had explored quite a ways away from home, but never quite this far. Still, she supposed she should have been grateful; she was getting an adventure, a chance to see and learn more. However, the idea of these dragons didn't quite sit well with her. It was probably just because it was something she didn't understand very well, or maybe the fact that she didn't know which dragon would choose her, or maybe it was just the fact that there were going to be others there that were going to be bonded to a dragon. That thought bothered her the most. She hadn't talked to people, or even around people, so it wasn't very often that people heard her voice, and that bothered her even more. These people might very well be the first, outside of her parents, to hear her talk.

She glanced around herself, at the trees around her, then glanced again at the map clutched in her hands. She was headed the right way, she was sure...although the fact that she might be wrong added to her level of uneasiness, only making her stop to take a deep breath and relax herself. She was stressing herself too much, she knew. But that was normal. If she wasn't stressed, it wasn't a normal day at all. After she had calmed herself enough to walk and pay attention at the same time, she started off again, still needing to pause and look over the map.

'What a mess...' she thought, shaking her head. 'I would be the one to get lost...or be late, or something, wouldn't I? ...No...focus...need to find the cave...to find the dragon eggs...' Why had she been marked? She wasn't anything special. She couldn't understand it. What made her different from any other being, human or otherwise, that didn't get chosen? she couldn't fight...she could learn, and find information, but what good did that do? She shook herself from her self-pity long enough to glance at the map again, and then kept moving, trying to ignore her lack of self-confidence. 'It'll be fine...I only need to know the dragon that chooses me...' Hopefully this wouldn't turn out too bad.

Appearing almost like a gargantuan, finely made statue crafted from hammered copper, the only thing that marked the Great Dragon as a living creature was the breathing, which was visible if one looked closely, and the great, glimmering, golden eyes which took in everything. After a moment of regarding this first Marked, who had arrived in such an odd fashion, the reptile spoke.

"Greetings, Marked one. I am pleased to see you arrived safely, and trust the journey was not unpleasant." He gave a brief, polite nod, the tip of his tail twitching ever so slightly.

~~~~
Ryuu halted and froze in place upon hearing a loud rustle of leaves, head swiveling back and forth and nose in the air. His senses just weren't good enough in this form..... He could maybe... Yes. The sweetly familiar scent of a human being. It was almost comforting. He had grown up in human cities, after all.
He moved quickly ahead and trying not to let his footsteps be heard by the human he was approaching. After all, it wouldn't be any good to startle them or, if they turned out to be an enemy, alert them to his presence. Peering through a cover of bushes, the red haired child considered what he saw. Human with a map.... Didn't seem to be carrying weapons... Might have some food?
With the hope of food in mind, the boy stepped out into the clear, a grin on his puckish, freckled face. "Hello!"
Songrose jumped, startled, when she heard another voice. She paused, looking over the boy who had shown up. He didn't seem unfriendly...at least, from what she could tell. Another of the marked, maybe? She hoped so; then it might be easier to be going along without using the map. That was, if he knew the way. She nodded, trying to reply, "Hello," but could barely raise her voice enough to be heard. She had expected this, so she raised her hand a little in greeting, so even if he didn't hear, the general meaning was pretty clear.
She shot another brief glance at the map in her hand before letting that hand fall to the side; she wouldn't look at it unless she really needed to. She struggled for a second for courage to raise her voice, and then to even figure out what she wanted to sa, without trying to be offensive. Some people were sensitive. "Umm...are you...out here...because of the...the dragons?" she finally forced herself to say, already feeling that she may have embarrassed herself.
"Uh-huh." Ryuu gestured to the dark mark which covered most of his forehead and part of one cheek, eying her with clear, childish blue eyes. "Are you lost?" Generally, from his personal experience, people who looked so carefully at their maps didn't know where they were going. And she didn't seem like the type that traveled much..... Hm.
After a half second of considering whether to ask if she had any food, he went on. "If you are, I can help. I know the way. I can smell it." He beamed at her proudly, then stopped grinning to regard her with obvious curiosity. "Do you have any food?"
Songrose hesitated before nodding. "I am...a little lost..." She was hesitant to allow herself to be led around, but she would take much longer trying to find her way on her own. "I suppose...it might be easier...if you help..." She took a moment to think, though. He could smell the way? She thought for a moment before deciding that he was probably a werewolf. How much did that really mean, though? She shrugged and looked into her pack, fishing through until she found some of the bread she had brought with her. He could smell the way, but didn't bother to smell the bread? Or maybe the dragons just had a strong scent, or something...she shrugged it off.
She handed the bread to him. It was only fair; if he was going to help her, then she should help him, too. "Here; my parents...put a bit much...food in my pack...anyway..." She was still hesitant to talk, but was more than willing to offer some food. It was only fair, she reminded herself. "Then...we should find our way...to the dragons...eggs...if you don't mind...helping me out?"
Ryuu took the bread and began eating as if he had been starving for days, not really bothering to chew, but tearing chunks off and swallowing them. After he had devoured most of it in this fashion, he gulped down the last bite he had taken and grinned.
"'Course I don't mind. Actually, we're only a little ways away, now. 'Least, I think so..... Dunno, really, but as far as I can smell, it seems that way." He paused and thought for a moment, stuffing the last piece piece of bread into his mouth as he did so, then pointed in a seemingly random direction and swallowed. "That way. It probably isn't far, even if it is farther than I think."
And with that, the werepup started in that direction, pausing after a few steps to glance over his shoulder and make sure his new traveling companion was following. Of course, the path he had chosen wasn't very clear.... He was having to push bushes, small saplings, and other large plant life out of his way as he went. But he could smell the dragon... It wouldn't be far now.
Songrose bit her tongue at his eating manners. She ouldn't properly call them table manners, really; not when they were ouside and not actually at a table. Still, she wasn't going to say anything to him at the moment. She followed as he started off, struggling to keep up through the bushes and branches in the way. She hoped he was right; that it wasn't very far from the cave with the dragon and the eggs...so that she ould get this journey over with. She was tired, and wanted rest more than anything else; she wasn't even really hungry.
Still, she wasn't about to argue with her travelling companion. She didn't like arguments and fights, and she definitely didn't want to upset her travelling companion. That would lead to her being lost in the woods. she kept the map in her hand, but didn't bother to look at it. Not when the werewolf was being so nice and leading her to the cave like this. She rubbed, somewhat self-consciously, at the mark on her own face, covering up a good deal of the left cheek. It had become a habit almost as soon as it had shown up.
She wasn't overly fond of silence, but didn't know much about mkaing conversation herself. Instead, she continued to struggle through bushes, saplings, and bushes, nearly tripping a few times over small rocks that she didn't see. How the werewolf could keep going on like this was beyond her, unless it was just something that werewolves could do. Or maybe humans could, too; she had never really been a physically strong human.
Wiggling through the last little bits of plant life, Ryuu found himself int he clearing in front of the cave. That had not been far at all. "We're here!" He called to his traveling companion, then sniffed the air, trying to pinpoint all the smells. A werewolf. He could definitely smell the werewolf. A few siren-y scents.... And an odd, almost bird smell. Only it wasn't a bird smell. It was too human-ish to be a bird. He took another deep breath through his nose. An... Angel maybe? He had never met one, but he guessed they might smell like birds.
Of course, overpowering all these assorted smells was the odor of dragon. A sharp, scaly, green scent. Not bad at all, really, though he figured it would get old quick. He glanced backwards to see if the human that had followed him had caught up yet, deciding that he may as well escort her into the cave.
Songrose looked up as Ryuu said they were where they needed to be, glancing over the scene before her. The cave was more interesting than she would have thought...a little bit larger, maybe, but there was probably a much larger dragon to protect the eggs. She should have thought about that fact before, she thought. She caught up to the werewolf, looking over the cave still.
"You were right...it wasn't all that far..." They had been much closer than she had thought, anyway. At least, she had thought for a while that she had maybe gotten herself lost. If she had been positive on where she had been going, she wouldn't have asked the werewolf to help her find her way there. Not that it would have mattered much; he was going to the same place, anyway.
"Of course I was right." Ryuu chirped, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the cave with childish impatience. "C'mon, I bet they're waiting for us. There's a Siren and a Werewolf and a big dragon. Or lotsa little dragons.... Anyway, it smells dragonish and-" He stopped talking when he saw the Great Dragon, wide eyes growing wider with awe.
When he finally found his tongue again, the words came out in a sort of half squeak. "Um.... Guess it's just one big dragon? Hi, Mr. Dragon, sir....." Was that how you addressed a dragon? Probably not, but he hoped the big reptile wasn't hungry at the moment. It did have a whole forest full of animals... Why would he eat a chewy little werepup?
The Great Dragon smiled, clearly excited, and gave the two newcomers a welcoming nod before addressing the group as a whole. "The last Marked have arrived. It is time for the hatching!" Ryuu blinked at this, then smiled. If nothing else, this hatching would be fun to watch.
As if a mental switch had been flipped, Najade stopped his burbling and noise making. He knew. It was time to hatch, time to find his bonded, it was time. It was time! Time to meet the world. Time to go from egg to dragon. He had been waiting so long.... Smashing his body against the inside of the egg, he created a long crack in the shell, then prepared to repeat the process and break free of his glasslike world.
Upon being lead into the Great Dragon's Cave by Aquaea, Faquel's mind blurred after meeting the massive creature himself. Indeed, the encounter had caused him to retreat behind his "hero" merely out of shyness, but the blending of hellos and new faces kept his mind off the dull pain in his injured wing. Faquel was about to make his way to somewhere less crowded when the Great Dragon announced that all the marked had gathered and it was time to watch them hatch!
The moment of truth. I finally meet the reason why I have this mark on my face. I wonder which one is mine? What kind of dragon will it be? Is it a girl? A boy? Gah, I'd wish they'd just hatch! Question after question amassed in Faquel's mind as he, along with the others, watched the eggs intently.
Songrose blinked as she was pulled into the cave by the werewolf, and was startled when she saw the dragon. She watched the werewolf greet the large dragon, but found herself unable to say anything, to greet the dragon herself. There was far too much she could say that might be impolite, or maybe she'd be considered to have said too much, or something. Instead, she only nodded to him, quickly pulling her hand away from the werewolf. She barely had any sort of contact with her parents, physical or otherwise, so this alone was very unusual for her.
Fortunately, her attention was distracted rather quickly. The large dragon said it was time for the eggs to hatch and, as if on cue (or maybe actually it was a cue, she had no idea how these things worked), the dragon eggs started to hatch. Scratching and little pings as the eggs started to move, as the young dragons started fighting to escape the eggshells. She watched with interest as they hatched, curious to see all the different types of dragons. She examined them, more to see what they looked like, to learn their behaviors, to keep them in her memory. Any bit of new information was good enough for her.
She thought it odd that they could already talk, and they seemed to stumble towards a particular person to talk to. Maybe someone they took a liking to? One that they might choose for their bonded? One already seemed to think that, but she wasn't overly concerned with the other people there; just watching the dragons.
Songrose watched curiously as the dragons all found some person that they wanted to talk to. It seemed a little odd, but they all seemed to know who they were bonded with. She tilted her head curiously to one side as two went to the werewolf that had led her there. She watched, about to back away a step before it became a fight, but calmed when it seemed like he was being playful. It almost reminded her of a cat trying to play. She grinned and looked back to the werewolf; she felt a little bad that she hadn't gotten his name, but he hadn't offered, and hadn't asked for hers.
Still, she turned her attention to him, and the two dragon nearby. "...Seems like...you're kinda...popular...with the dragons..." she offered, hesitantly. She wouldn't be able to stand it if she had no one to talk to. Even at home, she talked with the animals there, even though they couldn't respond. Or, perhaps, because they couldn't respond. Either way, she felt uncomfortable trying to force conversation, but even more so when she couldn't hear all of the other conversations in the room.
Ryuu's attention went quickly from his scattered thoughts and back to the little yellow dragon as he felt it stiffen, following its gaze and seeing the larger, deeply black colored hatchling. Making a mildly amused sound in his throat, he watched its half aggressive, half playful movements. This could be.... Entertaining.
"...Seems like...you're kinda...popular...with the dragons..." Ryuu glanced at his traveling companion with a grin. "Guess so." He really wanted to ask if her hesitant speech was genetic or just out of nervousness, but wasn't in the mood to start a fight or make someone cry. A question for later, perhaps, when he felt like causing trouble. He was also a bit amused that the hatchlings seemed to like him; he wasn't known for being good with animals. Oh, well, no use pondering it. It was how it was, and that's as complicated as life needed to be. His focus went to the hatchlings again.
As the black one lunged forward, Ryuu grinned and watched its maneuvers. A strong little dragon indeed. Settling back into a more relaxed position, he surveyed the young dragon's antics with quiet amusement and interest.
