Known Equipment & Gear
L41 "Hardin" Revolver
Designed for police and security forces, the L41 Hardin is a Black Star-manufactured break-top, duel propulsion (chemical/electromagnetic) .41 caliber revolver. True to it's role as a police weapon, the Hardin is designed to fire a wide variety of lethal, non-lethal, less-lethal and other specialized ammunition types, from rubber slugs to taser projectiles to High Explosive/Duel Purpose microgrenades. In many respects a scaled down version of the massive .570 caliber M44 Callahan designed before the First Contact War, the Hardin uses very old, but highly reliable and proven technology.
L95 "Liberator" Assault Rifle
- GL230 25mm semi-automatic Grenade Launcher
Developed by Black Star Trans-Galactic in 2302, the L95 assault rifle would quickly become one of the most popular weapons in the Galaxy, rivaling even the Reaper War-era M8 Avenger. Thanks to its use of preforged projectiles and magazines as opposed to shaver blocks and thermal clips, as well as it's lack of an eezo core, the L95 was vastly cheaper, simpler, more reliable and more powerful, as well as being quicker and easier to produce. Indeed, simplicity was the Liberator's primary virtue. They could be rolled off factory lines in even the most primitive industrial conditions by the thousands, and soldiers could be familiarized with their use in under an hour. The rifle's simple, robust design prevented even the stupidest of recruits from wrecking it, and even if they did, a hundred more came off the production line for every one lost.
Designed to provide a cheap, easily mass-produced service rifle for any branch of a military, the L95 was also remarkable for it's modularity. Composed of two primary assemblies which could be swapped at will, the L95 platform provided the basis for countless variations, including particle-beam weapons for zero-gravity combat, personal defense weapons, designated marksman's rifles, and even a shotgun which could be created simply by swapping out the magazine and rail assembly. It's light weight, ease of modification in the field, and standard 100 round quad-stack duplex magazine made it incredibly flexible, while the enlarged trigger guard and specially designed grip made it ergonomic and comfortable for any humanoid or biped to wield.
L806 "Dirk" Boarding Shotgun
The Black Star L806 Dirk, frequently referred to as a "whippet gun", is a very compact semi-automatic shotgun, firing 18.5x40mm disintegrating shot-cups from an internal tube magazine. Built to the specifications of Quarian Fleet Marines serving with Taskforce Zorah during the Terminus War, the Dirk is intended for close-quarters engagements in starships or urban environments.
Paladin M240/Ts (Turian, Security) Armor
Designed for security forces, such as Black Star Security, or the special weapons teams of planetary police forces, M240 Paladin s-Pattern armor is built with protection and versatility in mind. In addition to the heavier armor and more powerful kinetic barriers seen on h-Pattern armor, the s-Pattern suit is equipped with the emmiters for sentinel tech armor, as well as a feedback field that deters melee attacks by delivering a potent electric shock through any conductive material, including flesh, which strikes it with sufficient force. When depleted or detonated, rather than fragmenting into a lethal blast, the s-Pattern's tech armor arcs electricity between the fragments, vaporizing them and subjecting anyone within the radius to a powerful, but less-than-lethal shock.
Like all Paladin armor, it is fully capable of functioning as a space suit, or providing protection from other hostile environments. The standard-issue power pack uses a micro cold fusion cell to provide power to the suit's servo joints and Geth synth muscle tissue, and is fitted with jump jets which combine with the suit's element zero core to allow brief, but powerful jumps, or manuvering in null-g environs. The helmet paints a Heads Up Display over the wearer's retinas, and provides imagery in infrared, night-for-day and thermal vision modes. Both forearms are fitted with omni-tool emmiters, coded for both less-lethal stun forks, lethal blades and breaching saws.
Physical Profile
Kyrenne is of average height and build for a Turian, with green eyes and flat tan/buff dermal plating. She wears no face paint, a symbol of her renunciation of the Hierarchy and all it's customs. Her only marking is a small, black, tattoo on the back of her neck; the ringed, 7-pointed starburst over shield of Black Star Trans-Galactic Security Division.
When out of armor, she wears her black Union Special Operartions Directorate dress uniform, complete with Major's laurels and the combat citations from her days serving with Taskforce Vakarian.
Kyrenne spurns the loud flamboyance of most Union troops, leaving her armor and weapons virtually untouched from the factory. Her Paladin M240/Ts armor is painted in SOD black-to-grey hex camoflauge, with her only concession to tradition being a pair Union blue accent stripes on the arms, legs, forehead and chest.
Psychological Profile
Stern, tough and uncompromising, Kyrenne Tarchus is the embodiment of a professional. Speaking only when necessary, her tone is clipped and concise. Though she may appear cold and calculating, Tarchus is fiercely dedicated to the Union cause, and is extremely passionate in her loyalty to the Provisional Government and the people of the galaxy. While she would resent the term, Tarchus is a shinning example of Turian Honor, in a time when many belive it a dead ideal. Her no-nonsense attitude and strict adherence to military protocol and custom make her an ideal first officer, but she lacks the creativity or flexibility of thought necessary in a good commander. Tarchus accepts this, acknowledging her place as second-in-command with neither resentment nor ange
Historical Profile
Born in 2309 on one of the Inner Worlds of Turian Space, Kyrenne was destined for military service, like all of her race. A fate she accepted, as she accepted everything, with cold pragmatism. Kyrenne had never been particularly creative, or prone to ideological musings, and the strict, structured life of military service suited her. Proving to be inteligent and capable, she quickly rose within the ranks of the Turian Military, and was transferred to the Military Police, where her strict adherence to the rules, and refusal to take shit from anybody rewarded her with further success.
As the Turian Military, liberated by Black Star's restoration of the Relay Network, ventured out to reclaim the territory they had lost to the mercenaries of the Terminus during the Century of Darkness, Tarchus and the Military Police followed, bringing order to the worlds the fleet retook from the outlaws. In 2332, Tarchus found herself in command of a detachment ordered to protect a Turian colony on the edge of Terminus Space. It was a small colony, composed of both Hierarchy Citizens, and non-Turian settlers who had fled the Terminus seeking the Hierarchy's protection. Tarchus had never given the issue of race much thought before. The differences in rights and treatment between Turian and non-Turian had never concerned her. But that was about to change.
After holding her command for less than a year, Tarchus was to face a choice which would come define her entire life, and cause her to break with the Hierachy forever. Batarian Slavers, seeing her colony, with its small police force as a tempting target, attacked while the Fleet was engaged dealing with a Blue Suns force on another world. Tarchus ordered her meger troops to hold the line, but soon realized they lacked the numbers and equipment to prevail. As did her superiors. While security forces did battle with pirates in the streets, she was dragged from the field to answer a call from Fleet Command.
Her commanding officers, upon learning the details of the situation, gave her an order. Retreat to the central district, and ensure the evacuation of all Hierarchy Citizens. Leave the non-Turians as bait to occupy the enemy until the evacuations was complete, then abandon the colony. For the first time, Kyrenne felt a twinge of doubt. These orders were barbaric. Why should people be sacrificed, why should the colony be abandoned, when the fleet was close enough to send help? Her men could easily hold the line. But Tarchus was a Turian. And Turians obeyed their orders. She watched, helplessly, as her soldiers pulled back, leaving the raiders to savage the aliens of the outer district. Watched as the people she was charged to protect were beaten senseless and dragged away in chains. Watched as her streets ran with blood. Watched as people fled for the spaceport, and safety, only to be gunned down by her own men.
As she climbed up the ramp of the last dropship, and watched her colony burn below her, something changed in Kyrenne Tarchus. She felt a deep, burning rage smoldering within her chest. Anger, for those who died needlessly. Anger, at the Hierarchy for valuing Turian lives above those of other innocents. Anger, with herself, for being their willing tool. The next day, she resigned her commission, scrubbed the paint from her face, and left Turian space.
Few people would hire a Turian deserter. Loyalty and service, the key aspects of Turian Character, could be had from any of a trillion honorably discharged men. Why accept anything less? But Black Star Trans-Galactic was different. Always on the lookout, not only for excellent soldiers, but soldiers with a conscious, Xander O'Tarin offered Tarchus a second chance, a place among the elite forces of his Taskforce Vakarian. Tarchus, recognizing in Black Star a purpose greater than the pettiness of the Hierarchy, accepted. Instated at her old rank, she embarked on the Taskforce Zorah ship BSIV Spirit of Areghet with the 651st Regiment "Lysae's Legion", bound for the battlefields of the Outer Systems.
As a soldier of Taskforce Vakarian, she won great fame and honor, bringing the fight to the pirates, slavers and mercenaries of the Terminus Systems. Her cold and strict adherence to the rules of Black Star, her refusal to succumb to her rage, was her own revenge, as her unit freed world after world. When the war was over, she was a Major, and among the most respected and decorated officers of the campaign. She was an obvious choice for the fledgling Union's Special Operarions Directorate, and for the position of First Officer aboard the USV Freedom's Blade.
Misc. Notes
Despite her former position as Chief of Security for the Skyllian Queen, a rank equivalent to a one-star General, Tarchus's Union military pay grade is that of a Major.
