Description

Physical: just a bit smaller than usual, sixteen years and counting up, dark haired with blue eyes.

personality: hates to be a "patient", feels less of a human being because of it. curious, daring, and the biggest pessimist who ever walked the earth. Always pretends she's "better" "fine" and "okay" even if she had a particularly nasty episode just minutes before. sometimes hard to get on with, but loyal and trustworthy and protective for those who she cares about. Known throughout the hospital as "the girl that wont say anything". she hates talking about feelings because she secretly feels like she can't trust any part of herself anymore, and this influences every step she takes.

abilities: plotting. can come up with the most genius plans to get more freedom than she is actually supposed to. because contrary to popular belief insane people CAN be smart. and sometimes much smarter than they should..

historical background:
originally dutch born, her parents moved to the states with her when she was only six. this cut her off of most family and left her fighting school with a permanent accent. this while her brain was developing not only in a healthy way, but also in a sick way destroying her already semi-rational view of reality. at the age of fourteen she was hospitalized and, as the months passed, her parents shunned her more and more, her mother claiming "she couldnt get on with insane people- she just couldnt" while her father was more of the false promises. Being placed from hospital to hospital she now ends up in the John Hopkins.

So begins...

"Yay! Come on Cortlan, Rosie! Let's go, the world is so pretty today, fresh rain droplet on the plants makes everything sparkle in the light!" Grabbing the two other girls hands she began to skip down the corridor towards a patio, where a few other patients sat around staring into space. Grabbing a seat that gave the group a clear view of the lawn, Cleo smiled as she began to hallucinate.

"Nature sure has a way of being an escape, the way the trees move in the wind to creat the sweetest music and how flowers can add colour to an otherwise dull world. I can almost see it, the place hidden just beyond our reach, hidden away behind the trees. There are many beautiful creatures that live there, mermaids swimming through the water and centaurs playing their magical flutes for the king and queen. Oh yes the king and queen, so brilliant and kind they are, they look at everything and only see the good. They walk among the subject and bestow gifts to those who have done them great service, no one there is unhappy, they live in a world of peace and love. These are my friends Cortlan. This is why I don't take my medicine, because the world I can see threw my eyes is so perfect and is my sanctuary. You can come visit it with me someday, those mean friends of your want ever be able to hurt you, so please don't become a doll and live happily with me, let us be friends."

Cleo flashed Cortlan a happy smile again, and reached out her hand, hoping the girl would take it.

as she concentrated intensly at what Cleo told her (ignoring the flashes and whispers), her shoulders went down a bit. this girl had a way of talking that got you captivated untill the very last sentence. It worked relaxing to listen to how she described her own world, a world so much more beautiful than what THIS world really was.. or hers. The dark shadows, people whispering her name around corners while nobody was there, The Others who visited her, dangerous as always..

Sure, she didnt want to become a doll, but how far would the alternative go? today was one of the better days but would Cleo still want to be with her when she would get bad again? would it be like the last hospital, where drugs were the actual padded rooms? and what if The Others came to take Cleo?

well at least she would offer some distraction, and, if she was brutally honest, she started to carefully consider her a friend already.
Cortlan took Cleo's hand tightly.

Cleo smiled as she felt Cortlan gripp her hand tightly. She could tell that Cortlan's mean friends were still hiding in the back of her mind but at least Cleo had been able to offer a distraction.
"Your my friend now Cortlan, you can't run away and leave me." Cleo giggled and gave Cortlan a comforting smile, "Let's promise, I won't leave you and you won't leave me. We will always be friends!" Even through she did have a perfect world that she could see clearly as day, Cleo knew she could never get to it, never touch her perfect world and escape her grim reality and that's what hurt most of all, but maybe with Cortlan's help she could grew used to her reality and stop missing her magical world.

Rose couldn't help but smile at the two. They had to be, what five years younger than herself? Whatever it was, the two of them would be lifelong friends. She hoped that the Doctors didn't find put about this. Rose could recall other nurses tell her of when doctors broke apart patients who go lose. They would say something like, 'They're like animals, they get protective.' And these poor girls, not even grown up yet, might be subjected to the same fate.

Maybe Rose could help them? Honestly they didn't seem like the monsters the Doctors made them out to be. If anything they seemed kinder then the doctors themselves.

She shook her head, deciding at that moment she would protect these two. She was a nurse after all, and no stupid doctor, even her boos, could stop Rose.

Deciding to leave Cleo and Cortlan alone, Rose slowly backed out of the garden. She promised herself to check on them later, and continued her stroll around the hospital. For a while she was alone and the empty hallways gave her a slight chill. Hospital or not, the cold, dully lit hallways bothered her. Not to mention the blinking light that bothered the heck out of her. Rose began to wonder if anyone was even in this place and made her way to the front doors, only to stop seeing she wasn't alone. A girl, possibly a new patient or nurse, stood in awe looking at the room around her.

Cleo saw that rose had left out of the corner of her eye, before turning her gaze back to Cortlan.
She could hear the lunch bell going off somewhere within the hospital and gave Cortlan a smile, "Come on let's go eat lunch, I am really hungry and I bet you are to!" Cleo said happily, keeping hold of her friends hand as she lead her towards the canteen. She didnt really want to leave the patio but there wouldn't be anymore food till dinner and because of her friends Cleo had already missed breakfast.
"I wonder what they will be serving us today? I hope it's toasted cheese sandwiches! They are my favourite lunch time food fall time through the cooks don't make it often!" Cleo babbled to Cortlan as they walked down the corridors towards the canteen which was just starting to fill up, Cleo quickly grabbed 2 seats at a table for 6, as all the other tables had been taken up, for her and Cortlan while they waited for someone to bring them their lunch.

Oli stood at the far corner of the lunch room, staring out at the other patients with hollow eyes. They tracked two girls as the entered and sat down, before moving back to the rest. He wanted to be anywhere but here. A nice nurse had lead him here saying that everything would be fine, but he hadn't believed her, making her give him an extra dose of the zombie-fying medication before he would agree. An insurance policy, he called it. So, now he stood, away from the rest, barely able to keep track of his own thoughts without them going all fuzzy and nice around the edges. Just the way he liked it.

Glancing around she noticed Oli in the corner, she didnt know the boy very well but he had been at Maylin nearly as long as she had. She didnt know what was wrong with him but she did know that he took the medicine like an addict and was more often than not a doll, it scared her and she felt sorry for him that he felt like he had to do that to himself just because the zombies said so.
He was sat alone again, like Cleo, no one really talked to Oli because he was a doll, Cleo had tried but he had been so drugged but that he hadn't acknowledged her existence, it had hurt her feelings and she stopped using the medicine because she didnt want to become like him.
From the look in his eyes he seemed more conscious today than normal, maybe she should try again... Maybe he was just lonely like she had been... Like Cortlan had been...
"Hay Cortlan, I will be right back. I am just going to invite Oli to our table because he's alone over there." She indicated the boy with her hand before getting up and walking to stand in front of him, 'please see me this time...' She thought before speaking.
"Hay Oli!" She said, waving and giving him an enthusiastic smile, "Want to come and sit with me and Cortlan? You look lonely over here and we have lots of seats at our table!" Cleo said again, tilting her head slightly to the side and smiling down at Oli, waiting for his answer.

Oli was broken from his trance by a voice directly in front of him, flinching involuntarily in response,
"Hay Oli! Want to come and sit with me and Cortlan? You look lonely over here and we have lots of seats at our table!"
It took him a long moment to focus his eyes on the little blonde girl, to make out exactly who it was. Not that Cleo was someone that could be easily forgotten. They all knew who she was, the one that didn't let the gloom of ol' Maydin's get to her. Yet.
Cleo had tried to speak to him before a few times, all smiles and joy of her usual self, but, as much as he had tried, he could not respond. He had watched in hollow silence as her smile faded to one of pity, waving a goodbye to him and going away to speak with her 'friends'.
But this time was different , he thought hazily as his eyes slowly tracked back to the girl who had been seated at Cleo's lunch table. She had a real person accompanying her this time. A friend they could all see, and a newbie at that.
Another long moment passed as Oli tried to piece all his thoughts together, really wanting to respond, to say 'Yes', but the drugs made it hard to concentrate. Not that that was essentially a bad thing.
He blinked hard a few times, trying to get some control, but everything stayed fuzzy.

Finally, with a shaky voice, "I.. Y-ye... Yes. I-I wou... Would."

"I.. Y-ye... Yes. I-I wou... Would." Cleo felt the grin spread across her face, he talked to her, his voice had been a bit shaky, but he had talked to her! She couldn't believe it!
"You finally spoke to me! I'm sooooooooooooo happy!" She said as she grabbed Oli's hand and dragged him up from his seat and across the room to sit on her and Cortlan's table. "Cortlan this is Oli, he doesn't talk much but he's going to sit its us!" She said excitedly before turning to the nurse who had brought them food, driving quickly into her desert first.

"You finally spoke to me! I'm soooooooooooo happy!"
That statement made Oli happy, too, even if he couldn't get himself to show it on the outside. He hadn't spoken to anyone since he had first arrived, and, he had to admit, it felt really... Nice.
He allowed her to pull him along across the lunch room to the table where a girl, who he assumed must be Cortlan, sat. Oli took up the empty seat beside Cleo, his hands tightly gripping one of the crossbeams under the table in an attempt to keep his sanity. It was easy to tell that his medication was starting to wear off by now, strange things starting to dance across his vision, and that made his stomach a bit sick to think about, but he didn't want to disturb this moment.
It had been so long since anyone had spoken to him, and he didn't want to ruin it by going to take more medication. He didn't want to lose this chance to make a friend or two.
He nodded to Cortlan in an awkward greeting before his eyes flicked to watch Cleo devour her dessert.

"Mmm, sugar!' She grinned once she was finish before turning to face Oli, "They never give me sugar anymore, You should try it!" She grinned happily.
Cleo paused for a moment as she glanced closer at Oli's face, he was looking kind of tense and had a slightly pale completion suddenly.
"Hay, are you okay?!" She asked, suddenly worried for the boy. She hated it when people became sick as they weren't themselves and seemed to hurt. She hated it when other hurt no matter who they were.

'Don't look at me like that' , The back of his mind bubbled up with that thought as he watched her happy smile, bright from sugar high, faded to a worried one.
He forced a smile of his own and nodded, trying to reassure her that he was fine. Even if that was a lie, and he was definitely not fine. Oli was off, fully awake now, fully vulnerable. As he watched, a strand of scarlet dripped down from Cleo's hair and rolled down her face. The slow strand slowly grew to a waterfall, soaking her clothing and the floor around her as her skin started to peel away, revealing charred skin beneath.
'Not real, not real, not real...'
Oli turned his gaze to the table, refusing anymore eye contact, "F... I-I'm f... Fine."

Cleo frowned, something was wrong. "Hay Oli, it's okay if something's wrong. I can't help your if you won't tell me what's wrong!" She said, reaching for his hand in a comforting gesture while throwing him a reassuring smile.
Oli refused to make eye contact and it made Cleo worry, "Do you want to go to your room, where there are less people? I know I do that a lot when my friends come out to play, it normally helps!" She said enthusiastically, "I can also come with you if you want, I don't think Cortlan will mind if I leave her to help your for a bit!" She said again, reassuringly, sending Cortlan a quick glance and a sheepish smile at having to leave the girl alone, but right now Oli looked like he needed help and Cleo wanted to help him!

Oli flinched at Cleo's touch, keeping his eyes trained on the worn lunch table that was slowly carving images into itself.
"Do you want to go to your room, where there are less people?" Was all he caught in his rising panic.
"Y-yes. I'll go to my room..." He decided as he stood up abruptly, trying to keep his voice as level as possible, sparing her a look. That was a mistake. Cleo's voice was no longer coming from Cleo, and the sight he saw made him stumble back, knocking into another patient.
He muttered a dazed good-bye before running off, pushing his way out the lunchroom doors and down the halls. Oli was in his room, safely locked away, in a matter of minutes, pressing the 'Nurse Call' button far too many times, knowing good and well that there was a good chance that no nurse would actually come.

Rose umped as the watch she had fashioned to the nurse call button beeped. It flashed a good number of time and Rose had to shut if off to concentrate. After it turned off, she pulled her jacket tighter and walked towards the room. For once, Rose didn't get lost and came to the door in under five minutes of the call. She hesitated slightly before knocking on the door. 'Hello?' She called in a quiet voice. 'I'm a nurse, can I come in?'

Oli was pacing the length of his room, pulling at his hair and muttering to himself when the knock sounded, making him stop in place. "Hello? I'm a nurse, can I come in?"
Oli practically leaped for the doorknob, flinging it open in a crazed manner. He didn't really care who it was, anyone with the ability to fill a prescription was fine by him, and this nurse filled that requirement nicely. Not that she really looked like a nurse to him at the time being, she looked more like a walking nightmare, and it took everything he had not to slam the door in her face, but he was willing to take her word for it.
He felt like an addict, wanting the medicine so badly, but he needed it. Truly needed it.

Staring at the nurse in eerie silence, he clutched his trembling hands behind his back, refusing to unclasp them.

Rose almost let out a yelp of surprise when the door opened, but managed to hold it in. The patient that called her looked shaken and scared. Carefully, as to not frighten him, Rose stepped closes and offered her hand. 'Hi!' She said in the most cheerful voice she could. 'I'm Rose, but you may call me Rosie if you want. How can I help you?'

Oli didn't waste any time in shoving his hand out to the young nurse to show her his patient's bracelet. It was the bracelet clipped on all the patients, showing his name and his prescribed medications. Oli knew quite a few patients who had cut theirs off, not that the staff really cared.
"M-My med... Medicine... I nee... ed." He begged like a man with no pride, giving Miss Rose the most desperate look he could muster. "Please."
