Someone who's always laid-back (perhaps a little bit too much), Hyeon-Ju revels in being the center of attention. Though she'd say it'd be too much to call her attention seeking, as she never goes out of her way to do something drastic simply to get attention, she doesn't exactly shy away from it either. Hyeon-Ju acquires this need by any reasonable means, whether it means being a little bit of an overachiever in the classroom, or being able to get on the good side of people that are already well known. She's well aware that these "friends" are superficial at best, but she's fine with that, just as long as she gets what she wants out of them.

Truthfully, Hyeon-Ju wants to be validated in every type of way. It has gotten to the point where she pretty much depends on it, and she resents anyone who dissaproves or rejects her. She is someone who deeply wants to be validated by those around her, and will go to any extreme to ensure that she gets the validation that she desires so much. And for a lot of her life people were more than happy to give her that, which makes it that much harder for Hyeon-Ju to wrap her head around the thought of someone not liking her and it pisses

her off to no end. Though soon the validation she received from others twisted into her growing up to be conceited and self-serving, which has pushed people away from her, effectively restarting the destructive cycle.

They all knew it was going to happen.

Some sat ramrod straight at their desks, others pressed their faces into the windows in anticipation. The teacher of class 2A, of course, supervised the students with a face of stone. Everyone watched on as the floating island ate up the sun, plunging the cursed grounds into darkness.

Pitch black darkness, actually.

Threads of reality bent and snapped around the word-bearing individuals. The floor dropped out from under their feet, all sound and sensation stripped from the students' eyes and skin. That gut-twisting sickness returned. Martin hadn't felt that deep sense of wrongness since the first Blight.

When his sight returned, the blond found himself in an... arena? It was small, about the size of a room. Stone piled around outside of the clearing, higher than he could see. It was he was in the bottom of some deep feeding pit. But, if this was a feeding pit... then what was being fed?

Martin's head ached and throbbed, his arms and shoulders itching and burning. Damnit. He looked up, finally noticing that he was not, in fact, alone. Two other students from his class stood with him in the stone clearing.

T H E.. S C E N E

There is an unreadable symbol on the floor of the stone clearing.

Three circular stone platforms, a decent distance from one another, all have symbols written on them as well. These symbols are readable. Two of the platforms read 'WITNESS', and the last reads 'MURDERER'. These stones are weighted. If someone stands on one, it will sink to the floor level.

An abstract tattoo can be found across the arms and shoulders of each student. If all three students in a group were to hold hands, the tattoo would form a complete centipede. As time passes, segments of the centipede tattoo will disappear from their skin. Blown up, enlarged versions of the vanished centipede segments will appear carved in the stone around them.

For the purposes of the Blight, the pit-like clearing is inescapable.

If you don't recognize the name of a character in your group, then they are a student from another classroom. Their character sheets are pending and I will be accepting them shortly.

Since this is a team based Blight, it will be easier to write replies if you collab with the RPers you got paired up with. This is also a puzzle oriented Blight. Even if the solution is obvious to you OOC, the characters still must work together to come to an answer on their own.

LILY

In preparation for the next Blight, Lily took off her hoodie and wrapped it around her waist like a belt. This way, her muscular arms were unimpeded for whatever this strange school would throw at her. Her speed- which was trained during off-hours- was practiced well enough that she could safely control a minuscule increase in speed.

Once more, the feeling of reality burning through a rippling change coursed through Lily’s body. She imagined most everyone else was thrust into pitch dark and a sudden weightless descent. Her stomach held strong, however, and she found herself around the edge of an arena.

“Witness…” She muttered as she stepped closer to one of the circular platforms she had apparently arrived next to. “I imagine… we gotta watch for something…” she glanced at the other two platforms. The second platform was identical, but the last platform held a new word, “Murderer…?” She scratched her head. She couldn’t make any sense of it so far.

She then noticed that there were two boys with her. She recognized both of them as ones from her class, but she never exactly got a chance to properly introduce herself. “Hey,” she greeted with a wave. When her right arm entered her vision, she flinched when she saw an unusual tattoo scrawled from her hand all the way up her arm. She checked her left, and sure enough the tattoo crossed that arm as well. “You guys got this as well? It’s not exactly fashionable,” she quipped.

KIRBY

“I don’t think I’ll get used to that,” Kirby put a hand to his mouth as he belched. He managed to avoid straight vomiting, however, and stood back up from his hands and knees.

There were three words on the three platforms; Kirby immediately identified those. However, there was one symbol that lay in the middle of the floor. The symbol was not familiar to him, but after calling the word "Knowledge", after four seconds, the same golden letters materialized over top, like some form of translation. “Accomplice,” Kirby caught sight of the strange tattoo that had crawled across his hand, and began to slowly vanish once more. Kirby rolled back his sleeve and examined the tattoo.

“Oh shit,” he said aloud after a thorough examination, “The tattoo is a timer. We gotta do something… before the timer runs out…” He needed more intel. Something… something that had to do with these three platforms…

Something that involves the three of them…

“Guess it’s obvious… we gotta stand on those…” he muttered as he pointed at the three platforms “there’s a catch, though, I just know it…”

JEAN ROUSSEAU
━━Separation Anxiety━━

When the Blight swept the classroom Jean felt his stomach flop and his brain scramble. It was only the second Blight, but he already tired of the vertigo that always ensued. Unlike last time he had no ridiculous monster or (figuratively) murderous tutor to motivate him back in line so he sat with his back against the wall. The scene before him puzzled him to no end and though Nori had taught him many things in the way of critical thinking, he had a hard time relating the witness-murder-witness idea and the fact that they had these odd, dissolving tattoos on their body didn't help matters.

He could surmise that the tattoos were a timer--the male who spoke first--made that much clear.

"What if it's a trap?" Jean asked, standing up, "they wouldn't randomly stamp a centipede on us for no reason. And the fact that they have two different labels..."

He didn't like the idea of diving into the first, obvious choice without thinking of anything and not having the person he considered the smartest only heightened his fear. The back of his brain kept circling back to her words, the constant "JEAN ROUSSEAU WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" that would precede a jerk to his ear or something similar. He knew however, that she would not sit and wait for something to happen. She had too much pride for that.

"What say you uhhh...girl?" he shrugged, gesturing toward the other person in the pit.

H Y E O N - J UP A R K
The only emotion Hyeon-Ju felt was annoyance whenever darkness blanketed the classroom and the ground was pulled out from under her feet. If this Blight played out similar to the last one, she was gonna get tired of the whole situation real quick.

What was once the classroom was replaced with a stone pit that very vaguely reminded Hyeon-Ju of a gladiator colosseum, the three pillars that stood standing were the only objects that were in the room. Well, that and besides the two other people she was stuck in the pit with, people who were most likely from another classroom.

Ignoring them for the time being, she began to observe the rest of the room in hopes that there was a way to escape it or at least something to help them out of this predicament that they've found themselves in. She had then overheard one of them exclaim that the tattoos on their bodies were a timer. 'Oh, so if we don't solve this convoluted-as-fuck puzzle there's a good chance something even more undesirable is gonna happen...sounds about right.'

The only problem was that this puzzle truly was convoluted, not to mention abstract. The fact that they were supposed to stand on the pedestals was obvious enough, but there was also the problem of whether there was a certain order they had to stand on them and what exactly was the connection between murderer and witness.

Hyeon-Ju glanced at the blondie whenever he referred to her. "Well I can say with certainty that the catch if we get it wrong is most likely death, so how about we settle on a somewhat reasonable idea before attempting to stand on those things?" Pausing, she continued to search around the room, this time looking for clues since she hadn't found a way to escape during her last search.

In some way, the words on the pillars were connected to each other, they just had to figure out before the "timer" ran out. She ran a hair through her hair in frustration. These Blights were starting to piss her off, and having to deal with this twice a week was going to be absolute Hell.

"Ok, so I'm just gonna throw this out there and you guys can ignore me if I seem completely insane. Maybe we have to think of this like a trial? Like, deciding who is more guilty of the theoretical murder and then standing on the corresponding pillars in order." She hesitated for a moment. "The only problem with that is why would there be two witnesses if one of them didn't represent a different role...there's something else that we're missing here..."

KIRBY

Was he over-thinking it or under-thinking it? So many lines of code, he may have missed something. Judging by the rate the tattoos were vanishing, he didn’t have enough time to thoroughly sift through the knowledge with a fine-tooth comb, especially with that four second-timer he was forced to go through every time he summoned the scanning power.

The first other thing he scanned was the Centipede statue up above them. It appeared to be incomplete, but materializing at the same rate as their vanishing tattoos. Four seconds later, he got walls upon walls of code. The only time he had seen code this enormous and complex was…

“Oh my god, that thing’s alive,” Kirby pointed at the slowly constructing centipede, “Correction: It will come to…”

He stopped himself as he felt his brain heating up Fear-mongering the aspects of failure did nothing to help in figuring out the solution. All he got so far was “Accomplice” in the middle, and “Witness-Witness-Murderer” Was one of them a murderer? What high school student has ever killed before? Kirby imagined Lily might be a “murderer”, since she had killed one of those creatures with a single punch. But she isn’t here right now. Instead this stranger was here.

Even so, that’s making a huge assumption that the variables of this blight are determined by the last blight, when there was no evidence to work on that would lead to such a conclusion.

“Ugh…” His brain's temperature had risen to uncomfortable levels. He fumbled with his hands to try to find the water bottle he made an effort to clip to his school uniform belt… but it wasn’t there. “Water,” he mumbled as he searched around his immediate surroundings, “Where’s my water…” He had scanned too many things within a short amount of time, like a CPU running so many processes at the same time, and his brain began to overheat as a result. He had discovered during off-time that drinking liquids helped cool it down.

His train of thought had stopped entirely in light of the hot pain within his skull.

“Son of a bitch, I need… my head… cooled…”

JEAN ROUSSEAU
━━Serial Witness━━

"I mean do any of us look like murderers or enablers?" Jean asked, turning first to the Korean girl, "he seems kind of like he'd overheat too easily."

Since the boy with the glasses was still making observations, Jean felt compelled to add his own observations, little as they were. Nori had always been better at these deductive puzzles whereas he operated primarily on hiding until he could jump on somebody else's idea. The other male was doing a pretty good job of figuring out the periphery aspects of the trial, but the periphery would not mean much if they couldn't get to the meat of the problem.

"I'm just throwing this out there too: Is it possible that the centipede is related? Like not as a consequence if we don't finish, but maybe something that needs to happen in order for us to pass?" he suggested, "maybe one of us needs to kill the centipede while the other two stand watch?"

Hyeon-Ju only shrugged when she was questioned. Other than what she had just proposed, solutions to this puzzle were not presenting themselves to her. And the other guy was essentially useless since he had a "meltdown" and the group couldn't use his...whatever that had allowed him to figure out so many elements of the puzzle.

They were helpless, left to the mercy of the blight.

Hyeon-Ju let out a heavy sigh.

Her ears perked up and she glanced over when another suggestion was brought up. "That would be a probable answer to the puzzle if we had something to kill the centipede with. Currently, the centipede would most likely kill all three of us." Hyeon-Ju looked over to the boy with the darker hair. "Did you solve your little problem yet or are blondie and I going to have to solve this puzzle ourselves?"
