Bio and Personality: Lux was born and raised in a small town in England and thought she would be stuck there her entire life until she got accepted into Mercado Academy. For her entire life she has been forced to hide her abilities so she has learned to express herself through creating things. She aspires to be a great film maker or actress someday. Lux has a very large family so she is used to being around alot of people and she is definitely not shy or quiet. Usually if she has something to say she will say it but she always considers how it will make someone feel before she does although she tends to internalize her emotions so people don't always know how shes feeling. Lux loves keeping busy and getting a chance to show off her talents and her brains. She can sometimes be very sarcastic but she can also be very kind and soft spoken-but only when she is tired, spacing out or concentrating on something. She is quite quirky and is always spouting random facts and almost always bubbly and friendly, she accepts almost anyone and trusts everyone too.

So begins...

Lux stepped out of the bright yellow cab that had picked her up at the airport with her video camera in hand. She paid the driver and pulled her large backpack from the cab before looking around. She spun in a circle a few times and smiled "Not bad" she mumbled and turned her camera on. Lux strapped the camera to her hand so she could film her every step before making her way towards the enormous building in front of her. She walked slowly with a skip in her step and smiled at everyone she passed earning her a few odd looks.

When she stepped into the building she stopped and sighed, it was one of the most incredible places she has ever seen. She looked down at her papers and studied her room number. "203B...203B" She muttered and walked down the hallway, all the while filming everyone that passed "Future film maker coming through! Touch the camera and before you know it you'll have wooden blocks instead of hands!" she shouted at a few passing students.

Finally reaching her room Lux knocked on the door lightly before walking in to find she was the first one there. She dropped her bag on the bed beside the window and carefully started hanging her clothes in her closet. After that was done she left to find some people to talk to...and film.

Lux skipped down the hall and looked in a few doorways "Hello? Anybody here?"

Emerson nodded. Damien. He seemed chill enough, though Emery wasn't sure what that look on his face was. Or his ability. He shrugged off the itch to know and turned away, deciding that now would be as good a time as any to unpack after all.

He hoped he wasn't being too rude as he took his iPod from his backpack and set it in his ears. Damien didn't seem really talkative anyways so he relaxed and bobbed his head lightly, going about the room and unloading his bags. Clothes in the dresser, linens on the bed, papers on the desk. Soon Emery had set up everything the way he liked it. He paused, hands on his hips as he took in his side of the dorm room. The furniture given to them was clean and nice. Maybe he would add some pictures to the walls. Anyways, if he did need something it wasn't like he couldn't just drive home one weekend and pick it up.

Hanging his backpack by a strap over the top of his chair, Emery flopped onto the bed. He looked out the window. It was so cool how the building crossed over each other and the roofs were all grassy like earth. He couldn't wait to go up there for a walk, maybe take a flight for an aerial view or something. But then he frowned, thinking of what the other students would be like. What if they saw him? His gaze flicked back to Damien, wondering what things they could possibly do. Would there be anyone that could shape-shift like him? Or were there any dangerous powers? Emery's heart fluttered in fear, even though he could become just as much a predator.

He grabbed his class list. What kind of classes where 'Power control' or stuff like that, anyway? He didn't worry about the normal classes, but he could see the extra classes being fun or very scary. In unease and apprehension he got up and paced the length of his bed before busying himself with inspecting the kitchenette and bathroom. Nice, up-to-date he noticed.

He turned off his iPod and wondered if he should go out for a walk, but ended up just going back to his bed and studying the campus map he had. Definitely didn't want to get lost, he thought as he heard someone call out.
"Hello? Anybody here?"
Emerson jumped in surprise, being hastily brought out of his thoughts. He put his papers back on his desk and walked over to the still-open door. He poked his head out into the hallway, looking about for the voice. Amber eyes widened at the dark-haired, energetic girl making her way down the hallway. He looked around to see if anyone else was out, but he guessed not too many because she was alone. He fidgeted, wondering if he'd already been spotted but remembered his mother's words. Make friends.

Emerson stepped out into the hallway and brought up a hand in a wave, eyeing the video camera. "Hi. I.. Is your dorm nearby?"

"Hi. I.. Is your dorm nearby?"
Lux looked toward the direction she heard the voice come from and instantly smiled "Yeah actually, 203B...I think" She looked at the boy and walked toward him and stuck her bright red nail polished hand out "Alexus Holbrook. But everyone just calls me Lux."
She examined the boy in front of her and tried to figure out what his talent was, usually she could tell by just looking at someone what they could do. She looked up at him and saw him eyeing her video camera and stopped recording "Sorry, it's a habit" she smiled at him sweetly and moved her long hair over her shoulder.
The boy was taller than her by a couple inches and had lovely amber coloured eyes which made her think his talent may have something to do with animals.

Damien held a hand to his head as he saw some girl skip down the hall, though he hadn't moved from his earlier position. He saw her express her liking of the place, and he saw her threaten the students over her camera. Energetic. Distracting. She was interesting, no doubt.

He glanced over to Emerson, in the same instant seeing him play with the placement of his items and his iPod. Damien had one them, too, but he hadn't put it on because he knew that he'd just get a history lesson about whatever song he picked in the new environment. The place usually didn't affect his powers beyond providing more information than he needed. Had he turned on a popular song, he might have seen how many kids had listened to it in the past at the school, or maybe he would have found a teacher that listened to the song often enough, or, maybe better, nothing would have come from it. Whatever the case, Damien was too new to the area to bother with extra visions.

The live-action voices dragged Damien from his thoughts in that instant. Already, it seemed Emerson was chatting up the ladies, though not in such a bad way. He almost seemed shy. This made Damien smile. If he was shy, he could rest at ease at night. Shy was a blessing.

To prove his theory, he focused on Emerson again, but, this time, he focused on thoughts and feelings, not just his voice. Every emotion and every thought were either part of the past or the present, and each one had a uniqueness to it. What Damien got from him was the flash of a memory, something about making friends, and a sense of... It felt like nervousness mixed with curiosity, but he had been wrong before with emotions. Emotions were different for every person, even if they were directly translated without the need for confusing words.

Curious himself, Damien followed Emerson's example and went to the doorway, mostly to watch. He leaned against the door frame and peeked his head out of the room, looking to the camera.

He hated cameras. They were like a pool of information sitting in both the past and the present. Movies gave him headaches, even music, sometimes. It was the connection of information to the current -- a time within a time without being out of time -- but separate and not. People lived on in movies when they should have been long dead, and, never could a movie be completely erased from the world. Even if every copy was destroyed, it lived on in unwritten history and Damien's headaches.

He put a hand on his head, squinting a bit at the camera. He was practically making a face at it in protest, childishly, but he couldn't touch it. He didn't want his hands to be changed into anything other than maybe water-logged, prune hands from swimming, and even that was undesirable.

Emerson couldn't help but smile back, shaking her hand. "I'm Emerson. I've got a couple of nicknames I guess." He looked back into the room, unsure of the way she looked at him like trying to pull information out of his skin. Not in a mean way, but he wanted to change the subject. "I'm in 206b with Damien..." Emery turned to see Damien had gotten up from his bed and was watching them from the doorway.

Damien was glaring at the camera as a young child would pout. Emery held back a chuckle, but was also relieved when Lux put it away.

Her energy was catching, however, and Em was quickly feeling more comfortable around her. "Is this your first year?" He asked. He wasn't sure about giving away his ability, but was now wondering about hers. Something with technology, hence the camera? Emerson was curious as to what types of powers there even were. Were some kids like superheros or something? He'd never heard of a superhero being able to morph into a cat or bird.

He brought his attention back to Lux. "I'm a sophomore but It's my first time in a place like... this." he laughed quietly, nervously.

Lux smiled apologetically at Damien after putting her camera away, sometimes she forgot that not everyone was so fascinated with them as she was.

"This is my first year too. And I also happen to be a sophomore as well, this is actually my first time being away form home like ever." she quickly scanned the hall again and was still amazed at the size of it "My house is barely even bigger than my dorm room and we have to squeeze six of us in there."
Lux looked down at the slightly scuffed up shiny black high heels she had borrowed from her sister so she could 'make a good impression' as Cecily had put it, apparently the way to do that was wearing ridiculous shoes.

She looked back up at the boys and twisted a strand of hair around her finger "So, Damien, have you been here before because if not you can join our little newbie club" she beamed at both of them.

Damien quit his child's play and turned to look at the new-new person. They were attracting quite a crowd, and, with that, more thoughts and feelings. He sighed softly and plastered a smile on his face, waving to her. He was just glad that the song on her iPod went off; it was less technology to think about and deal with.

He stood straight and stepped to the side so that he wasn't in the doorway or touching the frame or wall. There was something that he liked about her -- probably the fact that she didn't talk instantly. His plastered smile molded into more of a natural look before the second was up.

He turned to look at the other girl when she spoke and shook his head. "Freshman, through-and-through."

Lux looked at both the girls who joined them and beamed. "Hey Alex! I'm your roommate, you can call me Lux" she then turned to December who looked a bit embarrassed. "Electricity manipulation right? That's so cool. I wish my talent was actually interesting like yours is, is it hard to control?" Okay...so Lux had a bit of an obsession with other people's talents, so what? She's never met anyone else with talents before.

Emerson laughed at Lux. He was really starting to feel at ease, even when each new person came up. December was shy at first, but of course Lux brought her out from hugging the wall. And Alex, too. Emerson shot Damien a laughing smile; outnumbered by girls already, the younger boy sure seemed to be more exited.

When they started talking about powers, however, Emerson got really excited. He stood straighter, listening in awe at their explanations. December’s power surprised him when she didn’t seem to be able to control her… electricity? And what could Alex mean by asking them if they were hurt? He shook his head slowly. No aches and pains here.

But when Lux changed her camera and fixed December’s iPod like new, he couldn’t help but gawk. His hands fell to his sides and his amber eyes were open wide. He wanted to ask if she could possibly shape-shift other things – living things, herself. Like him! But he shied slightly, still feeling awkward when the girls chatted so easily about their abilities. He glanced another look at Damien. He hadn’t shared anything, either. Emerson still wanted to ask Lux about her abilities, but was surprised by yet more newcomers.

Who was that older girl pushing through? Emery ducked his head and quickly stepped against the wall, frowning slightly. Everyone had seemed so nice… and there was another boy, too, relaxing against the wall further down the hallway. How long had he been there? Emerson scolded himself; in a school full of kids with powers, he should watch his back.
But he had to agree with December. They should move. He chose this chance to speak up, suggesting an idea. “We could go outside,” he said, clearing this throat. It took a breath to talk to so many people, but he did want to listen to them and get to know them – he’d be living and learning with them after all – and he’d get to check out the campus grounds outside. Killing two birds with one stone, so-to-speak.

Emerson caught the flow of the kids moving outside, walking beside Damien. He gave the younger boy a reassuring smile, starting to realize that this school year could be quite fun. But the smile turned into a frown and he made a point to glare at the other girl who also walked past, barely noticing the lively puppet on her shoulder. He would make sure to stick with these people that he knew were friendly...

Lux brought him back to himself, distracting him by her chipper voice (and sharp elbow) as she walked backwards to ask him about himself. "So what can you do, it must be something exciting if you haven't tried to show it yet." Emery ducked his head, watching the others around them as they made it to a nice grassy spot. He was just about ready to answer when the new guy spoke up loudly. "We have any new meat shape shifters this year?" Emery blinked back at the boy who was already playing with the grass. His heart raced as he spoke up, looking from Lux to the boy.
"Actually, I'm a shape-shifter. I can morph into animals." he replied. He'd always been shy or even sometimes embarrassed by his ability, but as each kid readily talked about their own powers he realized he was 'normal' by their standards.

He grinned widely. "What's your name? Are you a shape-shifter too?" He asked the boy eagerly, barely noticing the exchange between the 'ghost' girl and Alex.

Emerson laughed aloud at her exclamation. "No, no! Your... erm, whatever you call your power, it's really cool! I mean, turning an object into a whole 'nother thing?" He gazed at what she was doing even now. Card tricks? Hell no! He thought.

He smiled again, focusing on her other question. "I guess I can turn into just about any animal." He grinned with a bit of mischief. "Or, so far anything I've ever tried." Then he tilted his head to the side. She'd pulled so much information from him, why not share a bit more? He really liked these kids. He laughed to himself, thinking about what he'd tell his mom - not even the end of his first day on campus and he had friends!
"And currently, I'm trying to focus on changing one part of my body at a time! That's one of the main reasons my parents sent me, I think, is to control my morphing more."

"That is so freaking awesome! You are officially the coolest person I've ever met!" Emerson laughed nervously, running his fingers through his hair while hot red ran up his neck and lightened his tanned face. He watched with fascination at the grass airplanes flying around him, trying to keep up with Lux's questions.

“I’m not sure if my ability ‘works’, or anything. I just focus on what shape I want to become and I...” he laughed, twisting himself around to follow the airplanes’ paths. “I just focus and my body morphs with my mindset.” He shrugged. “Once you get over the fact that you’re becoming another being, you don’t feel a thing. I guess that’s why I came here, to learn more about it.”

Her last comment made him laugh aloud, and he turned to watch her with bright eyes as he answered. “Well I’m not genetically normal, now am I? Or anyone here, for that matter!" He took a breath, about to tell her about his mother, but his breath caught in his throat when the boy, Tucker, suddenly got up.

Emerson watched in amazement as the boy morphed into a cheetah. Yes! Emerson thought, a gaping smile spreading across his face. Tucker and him shared an ability, how cool! The older boy seemed to know more, though, so Emerson fell quiet and watched as the cheetah-boy raced with strong legs pumping and the wind ruffling through his fur.

Emerson, still watching Tucker, spoke again to Lux. “That’s the kind of thing I can do.” He smiled, excited about what he would tell to his parents. This school was definitely getting better and better.

Lux grinned widely and watched Tucker run around "That is so cool. Can you show me sometime?" She asked quietly while watching Tucker intently, watching a guy suddenly turn into a cheetah wasn't an everyday thing for her.

She laid down on the grass and looked up at the clear blue sky. Everyone here was so spectacular and talented. She had never been around people who were so accepting and open about their talents. She had studied a lot of talents since she found out about her own at the age of four but had never seen so many talents in action, even her mother hadn't told her about her own talent until after she had left for her new life away from Lux in France.

Lux sighed and turned her head to look at Emerson and smiled at him "You know the first thing I ever learned how to do was change the colours of fireflies. I was like four and my sister caught a bunch in our backyard and kept them in a jar and while she was asleep I wanted to play with them so I stuck my hand in and started touching them and the next thing I knew they were all purple and red." she smiled at the memory and brought more pieces of grass into the air, turning into the purple and red fireflies she was talking about.

Emerson sat back down beside Lux, resting with his arms around loose knees. He nodded quickly, a bit nervous. "Sure, I'll show you."

He relaxed then, wondering what kind of animal would appeal to her. He leaned his face back so the sun could warm it, breathing deeply the calm moment. When Lux spoke up again, he looked down at her laying in the grass, squinting from the sun. He smiled as she started on telling him a story of when she was little. This girl talked an awful lot, but Emery decided he liked listening to her. She made him feel comfortable in talking back, and thinking of her surprise when all those fireflies lighted up so colorfully got him to thinking of his own first time discovering his powers.

It must've been when he was very, very little, so that he could barely remember it. His abilities were always kind of there, ready to explore as soon as he understood them. He shrugged the thought off, watching the grass airplanes and fireflies drifting around, bringing a smile to his face. "What did you think, when you saw them change colors? Did your parents know? Does your sister have powers, too?" He asked quietly, hoping his questions weren't too personal... but she was so interesting! Emery cast a glance at the others around them, and found himself grinning slightly. He turned his gaze back to Lux.

The first part of Lux's story made Emery laugh with her. He looked back up into the clear blue sky and could totally imagine it happening. A small part of him wondered what would have happened to the lightning bugs, but that just made him laugh some more before she told about her mom being gone. Dead or left, he felt like he shouldn't ask about it right now, even though the thought of her mom having a talent was also interesting, so he thought to ask about her siblings.

"So you have a sister? I'm an 'only child', or whatever you call it." That made him bite his nip nervously. Just goes to show how much social action he got. "What's it like, having a sibling? Does she really enjoy your misery?" That troubled Emerson, and he frowned at the ground in thought. He could never imagine being happy if something happened to either of his parents.

Lux giggled at his awkward use of the term only child, he was adorably awkward actually. "Yeah I have a sister, and three older brothers. I guess having siblings is like being an only child, just with more people in the house to bug you and make noise. We're all pretty close but sometimes we can't stand each other." She rolled onto her stomach and thought about her family, they were all loud and outgoing and just so normal...most of the time.

Lux thought about his last question for a minute before answering "You know, I'm pretty sure that on some level she does enjoy my misery, but only when she is the one causing it. Otherwise we look out for eachother. But it must be so nice to be an only child. Your house is probably so much quieter than mine, and you probably don't have to deal with hand me downs or share anything."

Lux’s smile was practically contagious; Emerson felt his lips turn up although he almost thought she was laughing at him. He blinked at her reply.

“Wow, 4 siblings... big household, huh? Sounds like fun.” He grinned, laying on his back with his arms under his head, knees bent. He gazed at the clouds, wondering what it would be like to live with other kids. Definitely upbeat, compared to his usually quiet house. “So do any of your brothers have abilities?”
“And yeah, it is pretty quiet with just my mom, dad, and I, and the random animals about.” He laughed quietly a moment. “But no, I guess I don’t really have anything to share.” That made him think a moment, and he tilted his head in thought.

Sirens blared in the distance, making Emery jump to sit up quickly, amber eyes bright and worried as he tried looking about for it.

Lux looked at him and examined his smile, it was actually very charming. She could tell she would want to spend quite a bit of time with him.

"Naw, the only abilities my brothers have are being extraordinarily good at messing with my stuff" she scrunched her face up for a moment remembering the last time her brothers had gotten a hold of her cells phone, that was the last time she ever let it out of her sight. "You are so lucky to just have your parents. You must have alot of time to spend together. Although I don't think my dad and I could spend a lot of time together without it getting boring." She grinned at him and pulled a few mores pieces of grass out "Okay, if I keep this up the entire lawn will be gone soon."

Emerson watched her face, how it moved so easily while she talked to express her. He nodded, listening to her but his head titled in thought; he liked that about her, that she was so easy. No, more at ease. At ease with herself, at ease with her surroundings. He had to bring himself out of his thoughts again to answer her questions. Emerson held back a chuckle - no matter how many questions he thought of to keep her talking, she always asked him things too. But, he decided, he didn't mind. She made him feel at ease too.

"I do spend a lot of time with my parents, but they work hard to. My dad's a scientist and my mom's a biologist and they spend a lot of time studying." Emery shrugged, almost to himself. "But it's kinda cool. Sometimes they show me stuff."

He smiled back at her, then looked around them at all the little blades of grass. He picked up a few blades and held their broken ends together, then raised an eyebrow at Lux. "Couldn't you try molding them back together? Isn't that the stuff you can do?" Em squinted at the paper-thin blades of green. "Though they are quite small..."

Even as the sirens dulled and faded away, Emerson shifted his weight uneasily from foot to foot, also noticing the slowly dwindling sunlight. He bit his lip, looking back down at Lux.

“I, uh, I think I’m gonna hit the sack. Maybe get a bit of organizing done tonight.” He was a bit tired, this was true. He also was suddenly feeling shy again and he knew he should get fully situated before classes start the very next morning. “It was really nice talking to you.” He smiled. Maybe we’ll see each other in class. He wanted to add, but he was getting really edgy. The fact that he was away from home, with people he still barely knew, and school classes starting the next morning were starting to wear on his nerves.

He pursed his lips in a small smile, eyes lowered awkwardly before just nodding once more and turning back towards the tall dorm buildings. He mentally kicked himself for being stupid, just leaving her there like that, as he broke out into a small jog.

Reaching the safety of his dorm room, Emerson felt a little bit better. He wasn’t sure what Damien was up to, but busied himself with moving some things around his side of the room, took a quick shower, then ate a small meal while going over the papers he’d gotten. He still wasn’t sure how his classes were supposed to go, but worked on shrugging it off. Tomorrow he could find a teacher to tell him.

He easily got comfortable in the dorm bed, making it easier to relaxing when he shifted around with butterflies in his stomach. Emerson finally got to sleep, waking up early the next morning to his internal alarm clock. He didn’t know quite what time it was, but it was still dark enough that he couldn’t tell if Damien was up and out or not. Emerson didn’t want to chance it and so went about getting dressed silently. He prepped his backpack too, but was sure he’d have time to come back and get it before his first class -whatever that would be- and get it, so he slipped out of the room and into the hall.

Looking around and not finding anyone there, Emerson allowed himself a small smirk as he easily morphed into a large german shepard and stretched his muscles before trotting through the hall. He got to the stairs and elevator, shrugging to himself before turning to push the door to the stairs open with a strong shoulder. On the landing, he again looked about before leaping into a small falcon-type avian and made a game of speeding down to the bottom floor. It felt good to move about as an animal, and he regrettingly morphed back to his human form before walking back out of the stairwell and into the lobby. His mind momentarily flitted to the boy he'd met the previous day, who could morphe like him. He was so sure of himself, he'd ran around in plain sight of everyone. Emery wasn't so sure he was ready for that yet..

A woman was already sitting in the dorm lobby, but he ducked his head walking by before going off in search of the cafeteria for some breakfast. His growling stomach made him lengthen his already eager strides.
