"Great." She smiled and turned around, heading for the elevator. "So, I think we should start with the lounge. It's where everyone is most of the time. It's the common room." She pressed the button to go to the lounge. The elevator had just started to go down when the lights flickered and it got stuck. "This has got to be a joke." It was only her first day back and she would already have to use her technopathy to fix the piece of junk. "Damn elevator always stops working on when it's used too much."

"Couldn't that be a bit of a problem as often as it's used?" he joked with a nervous laugh. He had always been slightly claustrophobic. As his heart rate began to increase and his palms became sweaty, he felt the need to continue conversation. "I've always been afraid'f something like this happening. Does't usually take long t'fix?" he asked in a hurried tone hoping she didn't notice that his words had started running together.

Somewhere in between returning to her body leaving her body to possess the librarian and kidnap a book then returning to her dorm to sit by the window and read, Samantha had fallen asleep. The book she had stolen, ‘Twilight’ was not at all worth the trouble she went through, so much so she couldn’t get through the first two chapters before throwing it at her roommates wall. She continued to sit in the chair and looked outside before she began to drift. Bad books and possession always wore her out.

It was sometime in the future that Sammy reawakened. No particular reason why, she just woke up. She looked up at the sun, which had finally made an appearance from behind the curtain cloud cover, it was annoyingly shiny. Although, she supposed that made perfect sense considering it was, obviously, the sun. The same sun that shines on everything thus creating life. With a shake of her head she looked in the mirror and blanched. She looked like absolute crap, well her hair did. The rest of her was mostly fine. With a swoop of her hand her hair was immediately placed in a quicky side ponytail. There we go, almost all better. With a slight collapse of my head to the side she gave up on trying to make herself as perfect as she was this morning. She didn’t really care that much about her image, but she did care a little bit. There was no way she was going to let anyone look down on her.

She opened her door and stepped outside immediately she was forced to avoid a random elbow being accidently thrown her way, and let me tell you: that is no easy task in three in heels. Of course, she immediately lost her balance when the most unwanted, desperately unwanted, voice rang out to one side of her. Her eyes widened, and her pupils narrowed. Her head turned and immediately she fell on her behind because of that turn. Sunglasses, brown curly hair, and the largest (and somewhat cute had she not despised the annoyance he placed on her very existence) smile. “SAM! I missed you!”

She was on her feet and running in the opposite direction before he finished his last syllable. “EH!? SAM WAIT FOR ME!!”

“Sod it! Go bother someone else!” Sam responded before climbing into an elevator right before the doors closed. “Och, I can't believe I forgot about him...what are yeh looking at nosy toss-pot.” Sam said to the kid that was also in the elevator. He jumped up and looked away immediately a small blush on his cheeks.

~ ~ ~

Sammy was not as chipper as Sam was. He had missed the young girl by the heel on her shoe. Literally, three inches. Why had she run away, though? That was a question that kept running through his mind. Perhaps, that coin in your pocket could bring her back. Try it, just once. I think you’ll be surprised at what you can do.

“I know what I can do.”

But not what I can do.

“Shut up.” Sammy looked forward the elevator, no everything, he couldn’t reach his surroundings because of a strange pane of glass that didn’t disappear when he took his sunglasses off. Such a dull surrounding bored him and he went for the stairs. Immediately that pane was gone and he put his sunglasses back on. All better. He skipped over to a bush and leaned down. He recognized this bow from last year. It was Sam’s bow. Somehow she must have dropped it. He picked it up and then stuck it on top of his own head. What a lovely bow this was. Perhaps, just perhaps they could keep it, no he could keep it. There was not two people there. Nope not ever.

Liar.

“Do you just not know what shut up means?”

You know, you are a lot like me.

“Nope, not at all.”

What’s the real reason you want to keep that bow? You just don’t want to forget about her, because sooner or later you’ll forget about everything. That’s alright, though, I’ll handle everythin-

SMACK!

“O~OWIE!” He exclaimed, before him stood Sam in all her brunette and pissed of glory.

“That’s my bow, yeh gormless aris.” She stood glaring down at him before swiping it off his head. Immediately he jumped up and wrapped his arms around her waist as she turned to walk away. “Oi! Let go!” She pushed against him, “So help me, I WILL kick yer arse.” Sammy smiled and let go spinning as he did. She looked at him a look of confused annoyance decorating her face. “Yeh’re a strange bloke, yeh know that?”

“Yep yep yep!” He smiled even bigger, flashing all of his pearly whites. She glared back and turned to leave, “Hey! Aren’t you going to thank me for finding your bow!?”

“Yeh mean thank yeh for trying to steal it?”

“He~ey!” Sammy was now officially in whiney mode. Sam rolled her eyes and began to walk away, he trailed behind her.

“Why don’t yeh go find Alex and annoy her?”

“Eh, she might hurt me!”

“Exactly my point.” With that Sam attempted to scamper away, but Samuel followed her like a loyal dog on a leash. She clenched her fists and attempted to walk faster. He sped up also. She stopped, turned around and shooed him with her right hand. He frowned and sighed.

“You’re not in a good mood are you Sam?”

“Nope.” He drooped as he heard her reply, she was mean enough as it is, but when she was in a bad mood her severity escalated a couple of levels. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a worn quarter, “Hey, heads or tails?” He tossed it in the air but before it could get more than a couple of inches high Sam turned around and caught it quite smoothly.

“First of all, not fair. Second of all, don't even think about it, hobknocker. And third of all, I'll be keeping this.” After which she left leaving a shocked and flabbergasted Sammy.

“NOT FAIR!”

With that he leaned back against the tree and began to space-out staring into the world as if it was window with something really, really interesting on the other side. Fun right?

Movies and books always made it out that tingling and sparks flew between people when touching someone's skin, as a boy and a girl gained The Feelings for each other, but Damien seriously doubted they ever accounted for a girl who had the ability to zap someone with a wrong look in that person's direction. The irony: The tingling made him more aware of the present, gave him something to connect to with the "now" and drew his mind completely to that one spot, just as the hand brush had earlier. He hated romance novels, and that could have been a class-A scene from one.

"Do you always use profanities when you're flustered?" he teased her. Her hand on his brought him more firmly into the present. His heartbeat sped up. Why? He assumed excitement, excitement from being able to concentrate and focus on one thing, and one thing only, and a pretty girl was a good "one thing" to focus on. It would be too easy to use her for his own, selfish wants. Would he seek out her little shocks? Probably not, but he would look forward to them. If there was a stimulant to make Damien fall for a girl, she had found an effective one. He could actually talk to her and not be in a thousand other places in his mind. It was the reason he liked pain, it was the reason he did have a small drug history, and it was the reason that he lost his innocence already.

Lux looked at him and examined his smile, it was actually very charming. She could tell she would want to spend quite a bit of time with him.

"Naw, the only abilities my brothers have are being extraordinarily good at messing with my stuff" she scrunched her face up for a moment remembering the last time her brothers had gotten a hold of her cells phone, that was the last time she ever let it out of her sight. "You are so lucky to just have your parents. You must have alot of time to spend together. Although I don't think my dad and I could spend a lot of time together without it getting boring." She grinned at him and pulled a few mores pieces of grass out "Okay, if I keep this up the entire lawn will be gone soon."

Emerson watched her face, how it moved so easily while she talked to express her. He nodded, listening to her but his head titled in thought; he liked that about her, that she was so easy. No, more at ease. At ease with herself, at ease with her surroundings. He had to bring himself out of his thoughts again to answer her questions. Emerson held back a chuckle - no matter how many questions he thought of to keep her talking, she always asked him things too. But, he decided, he didn't mind. She made him feel at ease too.

"I do spend a lot of time with my parents, but they work hard to. My dad's a scientist and my mom's a biologist and they spend a lot of time studying." Emery shrugged, almost to himself. "But it's kinda cool. Sometimes they show me stuff."

He smiled back at her, then looked around them at all the little blades of grass. He picked up a few blades and held their broken ends together, then raised an eyebrow at Lux. "Couldn't you try molding them back together? Isn't that the stuff you can do?" Em squinted at the paper-thin blades of green. "Though they are quite small..."

"Do you have a problem with profanities?" she retorted, then slightly smiled at his comment. "Pshh..I'm not flustered."
That couldn't be further from the truth. Looking down at their joined hands, she debated on whether she should pull hers away. But why should she? it's not like he was going to get shocked, apperantly. But wouldn't it be awkward if she left it there? Stopping her inner babble, she actually gave his hand a squeeze, almost a sign that showed that she was not planning on releasing anytime soon. "Cussing is kind of a bad habit of mine," she sighed. "All the songs on my iPod have at least one bad word in them."
Actually, considering December listened to a variety of music, not all the songs would be contaminated with profanity. Thinking of her iPod now, she started reciting the words of a song in her head.
Don't wanna break your heart
Wanna give your heart a break
I know you're scared it's wrong
Like you might make a mistake
There's just one life to live
And there's no time to waste, to waste
So let me give your heart a break, give your heart a break...

The words circled round and round in her mind, but she didn't care.

Damien smirked. "What if I do?" Profanities never bothered him, and, very likely, he'd cuss someone out by the end of the week, if all went the way he felt it would. He decided not to call her out on being flustered again; her defensive nature had been proof that she was. What he did do was give her had a squeeze in return. There was no awkwardness, in his opinion, but, then again, he had no intentions to fall in love at the school, and awkward was an emotion he had become so desensitized to that it had no bearing in his emotional capacity. She was probably older than him, anyway, so even if they did make it to her last year, it would just end when she graduated. All the more reason not to think about it, all the more for it to be considered pointless.

He had experienced heartbreak through a million eyes in a thousand years, all different, but all equally as painful. Love was not something he planned to play with. There were too many mistakes that he could make, too many possibilities, and too much to consider. What if he found someone that he clicked with? Then what if they dated? What would happen if he got dumped? He'd relive that moment for the rest of his days, whether it be in the dark when he slept and his powers were left to spin around freely and play whatever he was latched on to, or whether he be in class and see a couple kiss. If it was just a photographic memory that he had to deal with, he would have just dated like every other teenager, but it wasn't. It was actual reliving that threatened him. Scared wasn't the word for it. Paranoid, maybe, but it was out of his control. Falling in love would simply mean another person had sway on his life, and... He shook his head faintly to get that idea out. The thought had seemed like an eternity, but less than a second had passed in that lifetime.

December could tell Damien was far out in his own mind, so she didn't say anything. Instead she just looked up at the sky with what could have been the blankest face ever. What exactly did she want? Did she want a relationship? No, she couldn't possibly. She would probably suffocate him with her strong personality. Then there was the little shocking problem, which didn't seem to be a problem at the moment.
But at any given time, her fingers could possibly zap him to the Ice Age. Um, then why didn't they, already... she mentally asked herself, even though the answer never came. She then carefully intertwined her fingers through his, much like all the couples she's seen walking down the street do. But what the hell did she know about love, or even couples. She's never experienced love, she only watched it from a distance when she had the chance. Looking at the hand that wasn't holding Damien's, she saw the blue currents gently moving around in her fingertips, but they eventually faded. For once, she felt calm.

Great, so this school had a history, why go here then, this was pointless. Logan was a returning student, and she guessed that most if not all people here right now were, the way they flocked to each other with all the questions however made it seemed like no one had been there before. When he asked her grade, she picked up on the fact that perhaps he was forcing conversation, or maybe that was just her imagination, was it really that important? "Well I am a senior, I have been home schooled most of my life and for the last three years went to private school. " Elizabeth smiled despite herself, "Home school looks so much more appealing now." She then heard a loud bell ring, which seemed like it was just above her, she cursed under her breath as it left a ringing in her ears.

Standing up, she looked down at Logan, "So shadow boy, what's your first class?" If she remembered correctly she had advanced placement English. "Remi, do you have my schedule? What room are we headed to?" she asked. Remi then looked through her bag and pulled out a small piece of paper. "Ah, third floor, 305 it looks like. Would you like to head there now?" That was a stupid question, this sitting around socializing was driving her insane, she had nothing against Logan, perhaps it was just the sitting around part, without having anything to do, she was getting slightly antsy. "I have to head over to English Composition." she said awkwardly, as she waved and walked away, heading inside the school. Perhaps it was rude, but how was one supposed to part ways with a person? Elizabeth pushed her way through the now crowded hall, and that feeling of anxiety came over, crowds, she just did not do crowds. "Get the fuck out my way!" she shouted, literally pushing a girl over and heading towards the stairs. "You know, I don't think doing that every time you walk in a crowd of people is a good idea." Remi said now walking beside her. "Whoops." she responded.

After waiting 20 more minutes Renia decided that people just weren't going to come to dinner tonight, and that they probably went to the diner. So she got up, walked over to the snack display, bought a couple more fruit snacks, a bag of Sea Salt and Vinegar chips, and a Chicken cup of noddle. She paid the lady at the counter then headed back to her room. When she got there she noticed that Aaron had not gotten back yet.

"Oh well, I guess will bond tomorrow" Ren said as she threw her fruit snacks and chips on the bed and headed over to he sink. She put water in the cup, and then into the microwave, that came with every room, and then walked over to her desk. She looked at her schedule and saw what classes she had.

"AP 20th Cent. Lit., AP German, AP Chem., Choir, Lunch, AP World Hist., Free hour, AP French, and a free Hour. Sweet, I can just come back here and do homework quietly before Aaron gets here" Ren stated to herself. After looking at what books she needed she heard the beeping of the microwave, and got her cup of noodles. She took her laptop off her desk and then sat on her bed. She decided to get caught up in some of her show that she was to busy with packing to watch. She watched the Daily Show, SNL, and Tosh.0. When she was done watching her shows she threw her food wrappers away and then sat down to look at what was going on facebook. She saw that her friends had started school today, and that most of them were sleeping in while she was on the plane. They wished her luck with her school year, and said that they couldn't wait to see her for Winter and Spring Breaks. After responding to them, she put her laptop away, and then got ready for bed. After she was done putting on her pjs, she hopped in bed and fell right asleep, not letting the fact that her roommate wasn't back yet bother her to much.

Buzz.Buzz.Buzz.Click. Renia turned off her 5 A.M. alarm, and sat up in bed. She looked around the lightly lite room and saw that her roommate made it back safely.'Thank goodness. Now lets hope I don't wake her.' she thought to herself. Ren slowly got out of bed and headed to her closet. She quickly put on her workout clothes and shoes, and then put a hair band in her hair, grabbing her iPod and key on the way out the door. She started playing her work out jam, and she briskly walked down stairs, taking the stairs. She jogged around the courtyard a couple of times, letting the crisp clean air fill her lungs, and then to the gym, where she worked out til 6. After her work out she walked over to the juice bar and got herself a strawberry-kiwi smoothie. She walked back up the stairs and quietly opened the door to her room. She grabbed her outfit for the day, and shower tote and then headed down the hall to the main shower area. She liked taking showers early because it meant that no one was in there. She took a nice long 20 minute shower, got dressed, and wrapped a towel around her head. When she got back to her room she noticed that Aaron was awake.

"Mornin'" Renia said to her in her Australian accent. She set her tote down next to her sink and then patted her hair to get the extra water out of it. After which she straitened and spiked, and did her make-up. She put on her shoes, and then headed over to her desk where she put her laptop, her iPod, a water bottle, a notebook, and a couple of writing utensils in a bag, along with her wallet. She knew that she didn't have to pack much today because the teachers didn't do anything on the first real day of school. She put her key and phone in her pocket and as she was heading out the door she told Aaron to have a good day, and that they would have to get together sometime tonight to get to know each other a little.

"Hi oh Hi oh, It's off to Breakfast I go" She said to herself as she started walking to cafeteria, being that it was only 7, and classes didn't start til 8.

Even as the sirens dulled and faded away, Emerson shifted his weight uneasily from foot to foot, also noticing the slowly dwindling sunlight. He bit his lip, looking back down at Lux.

“I, uh, I think I’m gonna hit the sack. Maybe get a bit of organizing done tonight.” He was a bit tired, this was true. He also was suddenly feeling shy again and he knew he should get fully situated before classes start the very next morning. “It was really nice talking to you.” He smiled. Maybe we’ll see each other in class. He wanted to add, but he was getting really edgy. The fact that he was away from home, with people he still barely knew, and school classes starting the next morning were starting to wear on his nerves.

He pursed his lips in a small smile, eyes lowered awkwardly before just nodding once more and turning back towards the tall dorm buildings. He mentally kicked himself for being stupid, just leaving her there like that, as he broke out into a small jog.

Reaching the safety of his dorm room, Emerson felt a little bit better. He wasn’t sure what Damien was up to, but busied himself with moving some things around his side of the room, took a quick shower, then ate a small meal while going over the papers he’d gotten. He still wasn’t sure how his classes were supposed to go, but worked on shrugging it off. Tomorrow he could find a teacher to tell him.

He easily got comfortable in the dorm bed, making it easier to relaxing when he shifted around with butterflies in his stomach. Emerson finally got to sleep, waking up early the next morning to his internal alarm clock. He didn’t know quite what time it was, but it was still dark enough that he couldn’t tell if Damien was up and out or not. Emerson didn’t want to chance it and so went about getting dressed silently. He prepped his backpack too, but was sure he’d have time to come back and get it before his first class -whatever that would be- and get it, so he slipped out of the room and into the hall.

Looking around and not finding anyone there, Emerson allowed himself a small smirk as he easily morphed into a large german shepard and stretched his muscles before trotting through the hall. He got to the stairs and elevator, shrugging to himself before turning to push the door to the stairs open with a strong shoulder. On the landing, he again looked about before leaping into a small falcon-type avian and made a game of speeding down to the bottom floor. It felt good to move about as an animal, and he regrettingly morphed back to his human form before walking back out of the stairwell and into the lobby. His mind momentarily flitted to the boy he'd met the previous day, who could morphe like him. He was so sure of himself, he'd ran around in plain sight of everyone. Emery wasn't so sure he was ready for that yet..

A woman was already sitting in the dorm lobby, but he ducked his head walking by before going off in search of the cafeteria for some breakfast. His growling stomach made him lengthen his already eager strides.

Tucker excused himself from the people around him and morphed into a hawk. If he hurried, he could sight-see before nightfall, and maybe a little after. He did just that, flying around the area, scoping out nearby places, and even flew away from campus to see what nature had to offer. He was never disappointed.

Another year -- his last year -- another day, and another creature to live the life of. Who would his roommate be? He hadn't bothered to check with the girl up front, but he figured he'd find out soon enough. Maybe he'd amuse himself by copying his roommate's shape and clothes. What would happen then?

After all his fun and excitement, he returned to the school and went to his dorm, cleaning up and changing before plopping on his bed.

--

Everything was too good to be true, and that set Damien on edge. He took a moment to collect his thoughts and immerse himself back in the steady stream of past, present, and future that was so familiar to him; he almost enjoyed having to force himself back into confusion, but it was a confusion that gave him comfort beyond the touch of a hand. He knew what to expect now, and, for a few more seconds, he listened to her thoughts and feelings and worries, trying to understand what was going through her mind. This girl, who was holding his hand, who apparently was fighting the want for a relationship, and troubling over why he wasn't getting shocked... He didn't know what to do with her.

Damien knew now, though. He knew now that she had an interest in him, and it wasn't something he was prepared for. It was almost like she was exactly the opposite of what she feared. He didn't feel suffocated, didn't feel like she was going to attack him or demand anything from him. His gaze went to their interlocked fingers. A few more... After a few more minutes, he slowly untangled their fingers, slowly pulled his mind away from the calm of being able to understand what was actually going on without replaying or reviewing anything. Had he made a mistake? He shrugged it off and sat up, rubbing the shoulder he had been leaning on for support.

"Tomorrow, how about we eat breakfast together?" He would be needing some time to think about this situation, and the rest of the day sounded convenient. It was nice enough to think, the air fresh enough, and the people strangers enough not to be distracted. No one would think his name, except a select few, and he could see a few people already getting to bed, even if it was still early. The future was set. He said his parting, not wanting to give himself time to dilly-dally, and stood, walking away with a wave over his shoulder to her. He would have to take a lot of time to think, for sure.

The rest of his day was spent puzzling over a book -- not the easiest thing for him -- in practice of the textbooks he would have to read in the coming year. Once he had settled himself with reading, he went to get dinner, ate a few bites, and moved off to his dorm. He bathed, read some more, slept, and got up well before Emerson. It wasn't that he didn't like Emerson -- he enjoyed his naive nature more than a lot, his sweetness, and might have hit on him if he knew his orientation allowed for shameless flirting -- but he wasn't so sure he could concentrate on a conversation just yet. He went to the cafeteria to wait for December, breakfast food on the table in front of him.

It was too early.

December snapped out of her daze when she felt Damien's hand pull away from her own. Trying to keep a frown from taking over her face, she answered his question in a small voice, her tone simple and unreadable. "Oh, sure, why not..."

She watched him walk away for a few minutes, finally letting the frown show on her face when he was out of sight. She then got up and dusted her hands off, then began padding her way through the grass and back to her dorm. She knew tears must have been falling down her face by the time she reached her door; for she felt the tiny sparks in the liquid on her cheeks, and the pain they left behind. Slamming the door behind her, she wiped away at the tears, then went and sat down near her laptop chord where she previously left it plugged into the wall. She then threw her iPod out of her back pocket and onto her bed, then curled up near the wall, clutching the chord in her right hand. Once again, she felt the electricity underneath the black exterior, and closed her eyes against the headache that was beginning to pound through her temples. More tears escaped down her cheek and onto the carpet, and she heard it sizzle in a dull way before sleep engulfed her mind and shut everything out.

The next time she woke up, she knew it was too early. Two hours until school starts. On the other hand, December knew that once she woke up, she could never fall asleep again, no matter how hard she struggled to. Getting up off the floor and stretching her sore body, she walked over to the mirror that hung on the wall near the door. Looking into her reflection, she noticed the glassy look in her eyes and knew that she was in one of those moods where everything was just shit. She then began to get ready as slow as possible, and by the time she was done straightening her blue strands of hair, there was still one hour left before school started. Returning to her reflection, she dug her nails into her palm. Something always has to ruin your fucking mood, you stupid girl... a voice in her mind echoed. Before she could stop herself, December sent her fist flying through the mirror, shattering the glass and causing a deafening streak of lightning to light up the whole room. Sparks also fell to the floor, causing little balls of fire to erupt and eat away at fibers in the carpet.

She then tore the frame of the mirror off the wall and across the room, which also sent the lamp on her nightstand down to the floor with a thud. Another broken thing to replace. The tears once again returned, running down her cheek followed by the same painful sparks as the previous night. As she brought a hand up to her face to wipe them away, she noticed the blood all over her knuckles. "I can stand on my own. I don't need anyone to make me happy." Returning to the same corner where she slept, she once again sat down and stared off at nothing, and eventually curled up into a little ball. She did not have the energy to face anyone today.
