Introduction
You are a mercenary. Your weapons are nothing more than swords, spears, and the such, and are provided after you are joined with your team. Your team consists of five people. The first, obviously, is a leader. Second is the brains, whose intelligence can support their usual lack of strength (areas of intelligence can vary). Third is a mage. Fourth is a warrior. Fifth is a healer. You can choose from one of these five roles for your character, though they are general enough for you to create your own unique character.
When you are defeated in battle, you are returned to the lobby you started out in. You may surrender to your enemies, but this will cause you to be brought back to the lobby as well. You may change to a different team if you so desire as well. You cannot join a team that already has five members. Changing teams is accomplished by swearing an oath at their base, as you must do when you first join a team. This oath states that you will not harm members of your team unless your alliances change. Breaking this oath will cause you to be sent back to the lobby. Relationships with other characters can be created in any form you wish, from being enemies to being lovers.
The Arena in which this roleplay takes place has several different sectors, starting at five sectors. Each team's base is in a different sector, and is marked by the team's flag. If extra teams are created, new sectors will open up. If a team has been completely defeated, has surrendered, or has joined a different team, then their sector will be available to be captured. The first sector is the jungle sector, held by the Green team. It is located at the northernmost part of the arena. It is subject to heavy rainfall around midday at least three times a week. Second is the mountain sector, which is next to the jungle sector. It is a long, yet relatively thin stretch of icy mountains. The base of the White team is found near the center, in a cave at the base of the tallest mountain in the sector. It is constantly snowing in this sector. Third is the water sector, where almost everything is underwater save for a few islands. In the center is a large island that houses the base of the Blue team. This sector is in the northwest part of the Arena, which touches the center, the jungle sector, and the mountain sector. The weather in this sector is relatively mild, usually sunny or having a light rain, though hurricanes pass through occasionally. Fourth is the desert sector, which is inhabitable save for the oasis in the center, where the Red team's base is. It is constantly scorched by the hot sun, although some wildlife can be found. This sector is in the southernmost area of the Arena, opposite the jungle. In the east lies the fifth sector, home of the black team. It is the wasteland, which is quite dry, though not sandy like the desert. It is the largest area, taking up the entire east side of the arena. The ground is made of hard, red clay, which quickly turns to mud when it rains. The rain is unpredictable, sudden, and heavy, usually causing floods. It is never moderate weather here, always baking in the heat or drowning in the floods. This area is also constantly ravaged by tornadoes.
Now then, it seems you have been adequately briefed on your mission. Best of luck to you!

Rules:
1. Use a line of dashes (----) to signify a change in setting or character. (Ex. Since possession is apparently pretty popular, dashes would be used if your character were to change from possessed to normal within the span of one post.)
2. Use italics to show character thoughts (As in what your character is thinking to themselves without saying it out loud), as well as new settings (Ex. September 3rd, 2010, Somewhere in California).
3. Use bold words to show shouting or bold words surrounded by asterisks for loud sound effects. (Ex. *BOOM* *CRASH* *BANG*) Sound effects that aren't loud should just be normal type surrounded by asterisks.
4. Don't double post or force someone to post just so that you can post again. (Duh.)
5. Control only your character. If you ask someone a question, let them respond to it, don't respond for them. If someone is inactive for a while (Ex. Hours or days), you can take over minor control of their character if it's necessary to keep the thread open. Don't do anything that the person wouldn't do themselves, and don't do any major, story-changing actions with their character. If you don't want others to be able to control your character ever, just say so.
6. Don't write people into a corner. In other words, don't make it so that other people can't do anything to get out of whatever situation you put them in. Also, don't force them to take a certain action. Allow them to choose what they want to do.
7. Don't kill people (Unless they have some way of coming back to life or ask for it). >_> This one should be obvious. How are they supposed to roleplay if they're dead? You can injure people, knock them out, break bones, etc. as long as they can continue their journey eventually, somehow. If you tire of your current persona and you want to switch to a new one, you can write the old one out (If you want to kill yourself, go ahead.) and introduce the new one.
8. Try to be understandable when you post. This means that you should at least make an attempt at making your grammar/spelling easy to understand. (If English isn't your native language or you have some other factor hindering your grammar/spelling, this probably doesn't apply to you.)
9. Don't spam or purposefully derail the story. Try to keep in with what other people are posting, and don't go off randomly changing the entire topic. (If you're separated from the other posters, then it's fine to have a different topic. Try to join with a large group as quickly as you can, though.)
10. You can write in 1st or 3rd person point of view. Personally, I prefer 1st, since you're the one posting, but it's your decision. If you're writing in 3rd person point of view, try to make it clear which person you are.
11. Posts can be as long as you want, but try to make it at least one complete sentence. One word posts are confusing, too short, and seen as spam. One sentence posts are alright, but try to keep most posts at around two sentences minimum.
12. If it isn't obvious who you are responding to in your post, copy and paste only the sentence(s) you are responding to from the other person's post and put it before your response. Make sure it is clear that the sentence was said by someone else. (This means that you should set it apart from the rest of your post by coloring their words or labeling it with their name.) Try not to quote posts unless you are out of character.
13. If you are going to be performing huge, story-changing actions in the story (Ex. Something that will disrupt the current task or affect a majority of the group), you MUST be a relatively active poster on the forums. (Ex. Checking the forums at least once every day or so to respond to posts) This will prevent future occurrences of people making important posts and then going inactive, forcing the RP to a standstill while people wait for them. You don't have to be an active poster just to post in the RP, but try to refrain from completely altering the story until you can be more active.
13a. Obviously, nobody expects you to watch the RP 24/7. If you will be going inactive temporarily (for a long period of time such as a few days or a week), mention it in the ooc thread. This will remind us not to ask you any questions or do anything that relies on your response until you get back.
15. If you want to join the story, try to wait until after one of the slower points in the story so as not to create confusion. You might also want to consider waiting until after any major action scenes end, but that's your choice. In your first post, try to integrate yourself with others in the group. Make sure to say the most important info about your character. The "I've been watching you guys the whole time from the shadows" entrance is starting to get old. Please find a more creative way to integrate yourself, and try not to pick an overpowered "god" character.
