Introduction
Twenty years ago, a global nuclear conflict utterly destroyed the world as we know it, shattering the known world into mere fragments of civilization, each desperately clawing at their surroundings for survival, etching themselves into niches premade in a violent fight to persist.
Our story takes place in one such fight, the Metro transit system underneath the Russian city of Moscow.
Many years have passed in the Metro, from the beginning when people still held hope in their inexperience, to now, where life underground is never taken for granted. Many people reside in the stations, either working to contribute in some manner or simply holding on as dead weight, still too stubborn to die. Several simply travel, either seeking a place of refuge or comfort in the Metro, and fewer still wander onto the surface, clad in equipment to protect themselves from the harsh conditions, only to return once again to the dark.
Technology has suffered, but human inventiveness has excelled. With limited resources, many have to rely on equipment that's cobbled together. Many items are impossible to replicate, which has led to a step backwards in technology in many places, the leading effect of this being the slow death of bright lighting, leading into the steady generational bleaching of skin color and sensitivity of sight. Lack of reliable crops outside of large-scale mushroom farms and a few animals brought from the surface (who have similarly suffered in the conditions) are the only source of food, and have become especially susceptible to disease.
Yes, life in the stations is bleak, but regardless, you must survive.
Throughout every threat, throughout every challenge, humankind have forced their way past them. Mutants, radiation, wars, they're all nothing in the face of technology and intelligence that have simply been cornered into a safe place.
The only question is how you survive.

The main part of Dobryninskaya, home to a poorer but still resilient Hansa population.

A notable station, part of HANZA's ring line. Each entrance is well-guarded from behind their sealed doors, all of them crafted out of thick scrap metal. There's a short connection to Serpukhovskaya station to the south.

A central point in Dobryninskaya, a large open area that's been converted into a tavern-like space. Known for it's decent alcohol and poor food, but still serves as a good meeting place, one often chosen by quest-takers for discussions.

Part of a double-station city, the southern half of the station. To those coming from the north, it is seemingly just a continuation of the city of Dobryninskaya, albeit a storage and industrial shift. Southerners see it as a lightly guarded gate.

The west side of Tul'Skaya Station. This side contains the Overseer's office and most of the living quarters.

An open area that has several tables, all of which are selling some commodity or other. It's as equally poorly lit as any other part of the station, but the lights are more dispersed, allowing for each trader to show off their wares.

A small converted room that has been turned into a living quarters and office for the station's overseer. One can walk in at almost any time, but it's requested through a sign on the door that you "KNOCK PLEASE."

This area is both slightly dark and slightly damp. As anybody enters, they are immediately introduced to a quiet environment, broken only by the sound of a cough or the hiss of a lamp.

As you walk in from the gates, you are greeted by ramps on either side of the rails that lead up into the Rail Platform, an open area where several people sit or stand, either in stony silence or speak quietly.

The eastern side of Tul'Skaya station. There's not much here beyond a tall stairway, seemingly to surface access. The stairs are covered in slowly running water that drips down from cracks in the ceiling and the doors up at the upper metro level.

The southernmost station for the Commonwealth of stations of the Ring Line, or HANZA. The double gate, surrounded by wooden walls, are guarded by around three or four sentries as you walk up.

This tunnel travels north-south in between the stations Serpukhovskaya and Tul'Skaya, and is controlled by HANZA.

The north-south tunnel that leads from the habited station of Tul'Skaya into Nagatinskaya. The tunnel is mostly abandoned, with the exception of a few insects, and is entirely unlit.

Metro: Nightfall - Mapping Developments
So I've come to the realization that internal mapping of stations will be a long and arduous process, as it involves a lot of work to either fabricate their settings or to transfer game-based places into the corresponding stations, and that still leaves a lot of stations that are never mentioned in the books or games that I have to come up with information for.
Hopefully that will be easy as-is, but if anybody is interested in inventing locations inside of stations or authoring an independent station (one not adherent to a faction) I'd be glad to hear some correspondence, but it'll probably be some time until I even get to the independent stations.
Glad to give out updates!
Thanks, and as always,
Metro: Nightfall
So the forums here are going to be primarily devoted to several different sections of development, mostly the ones that aren't the setting (although there will be a good portion on that).
I plan on having several segments devoted to:
- Game mechanics that allow for freer RP.
- Weapons and decided statistics.
- Gear/equipables and decided statistics.
- Updates until a playable version is reached (think like, a beta setup)
- Vehicles and Vehicle rules
- NPCs and monsters/enemies
- Player creation rules
A section devoted to suggestions is going to be created, as well as a place for questions regarding development and yada yada.
