♛NAME♛
Riven Seylum

AGE
Unknown, she appears to be fourteen but acts a lot younger.

NICKNAMES
Doll || A sort of pet name most of the hunters use because her appearance seems to be that of a porcelain doll.

Rei || There is no story behind this one. It is a nickname ones who are too lazy to say her actual name use.

The Princess of the North || It is no secret that she is Princess Seylum, rumored to have died long ago.

The Blood Stained Sword || This was how the humans knew her, as nothing more than a weapon of mass destruction.

SEXUALITY
Pansexual

ROLE
Vampire working with hunters

HEIGHT
As tall as she was the year she was bitten.

WEIGHT
Same weight too.

HAIR COLOR
Her hair is a long, silky, cotton candy pink. You can usually find her locks tied up in two some pigtails, with the rest hanging down her back.

EYE COLOR
A delicious candy apple red.

GENERALX APPEARANCE

Riven has never believed that she is anything special, although others would beg to differ. The young vampire has a gorgeous milky white complexion that has not even the tiniest of blemishes. Her eyes are a vivacious red that seem to pop in contrast of her skin and she has hair so long that should Riven not tie it up she is able to sit on it. In every aspect Riven is the image of perfection, if not for her short height and small stature. Should you look inside her mouth you would find sparkling teeth and a set of fangs that are sharp enough to slice through the toughest of skin. Pointed fairy like ears are attached to the sides of her head and if it weren't for the fangs one might joke that she could be mistaken for an elf.
Unlike other hunters, Riven wears what she wants. Normally it is a dress with detachable bell sleeves and a bow type collar with a bell so that the hunters can keep track of her. As for shoes Riven prefers boots, she has a long thigh high set that she pairs with her dresses. Ironically enough the vampire's favorite colors happen to be black and red.

LoudEasily AmusedCleverSneaky UnpredictableAlways HungryEasily Angered

___For such a small thing, Riven sure hosts a range of emotions. You have to be careful with her for Riven is quite sneaky, she always seems to have some sort of trick up her sleeve and is constantly attempting to escape since she has realized they are trying to use her to kill other vampire's. The hunters will not allow Riven to leave, often threatening her with death if she doesn't cooperate with them. This is why Riven seems perpetually angry when really, she's just annoyed her freedom was taken so easily from her. Riven is actually quite compatible and very easy to get along with. The girl is constantly bored though, so she is easily amused when fights start up or when she's needed. Other vampires see her as a traitor due to the fact that she is technically assisting in their demise. Some might say it is for reasons of self preservation, as long as Riven does what she's told she'll get to keep on living. Riven only sticks around because she has to and quite often she'll sabotage the hunter's plans and feign innocence.

LIKES

❥ Midnight || Riven is a day walker, she just prefers the darkest time of night.
❥ Flowers || Especially roses, she loves their unusual aroma.
❥ Cake and Sweets || Riven is a bit unusual in the sense that she can tolerate human food, to most vampires it simply tastes like ash. She cannot derive nourishment from human food, however, and will normally throw up a few minutes after eating because her body cannot tolerate it.
❥ Blood || O- is her absolute favorite, she considers it a delicacy but if it is not available she'll take whatever you have.

DISLIKES

⌦ Being Interrupted || If Riven is doing something and you interrupt her she will snap at you. It is one of her greatest pet peeves.
⌦ Eyeballs || Other vampires consider them to be the chewing gum of the vampire world. Riven is repulsed by the sight of them.
⌦ Chains || Due to the fact that she was in chains for so long they fused to her wrists and so she wears long sleeves to cover the hideous pieces of metal. The alternative would be cutting off her hands and waiting for them to grow back, but she has no desire to do such an ugly thing.

STRENGTHS

Killing || It was a bit of a lie when Riven said she hated death. She actually enjoys the hunt all too much, the dying screams are music to her ears.
Transformation || Riven's main ability is to turn into the weapon of her user's choice. She is also very experienced in turning into a bat.
Sabotage || Riven is very good at getting what she wants. If not she will "accidentally" sabotage your plans.
Dancing || Especially in the rain, or down the hall, or anywhere really.

WEAKNESSES

Heart break || Riven can die if you crush her heart and scatter the pieces. This seems to be the only known method of demise.
Crosses || Vampires are unholy beings and while they can't kill her, they can certainly hurt her.
Holy water || Don't even put that stuff near her! Riven was once kidnapped by a human who was convinced they could turn her back if they doused her in holy water.
Fire || A weakness in the unusual sense that Riven is terribly afraid of fire. It can no longer hurt her, but she still hates it.

QUIRKS
Mumbling || Twirling hair || Biting right thumb nail || Never sleeping || Eating human food || Hates eyeballs

FEARS
Fire || Holy water || Stakes || Being a scapegoat || Cellphones || Cars || Cages || Being confined in small spaces for long periods of time || Being chained up

POWER
Riven's power is a variation of shape shifting. She can turn into a usable and durable weapon for combat, offense, and fighting purposes. There are two sides to this, Riven can either become a fully wield able weapon, or she can turn certain body parts into weapons such as growing claws or horns. This is also called natural weaponry.

LIMITATIONS
Unfortunately there are many downsides to this. When using natural weaponry it doesn't take as much, but the transformation takes a bit and leaves Riven vulnerable. When turning into a full weapon, however, it is instantaneous. The time limit is about an hour, any longer and it could kill her. It takes a lot out of Riven and can take her days to recover, the shorter she is a full weapon for, the better. In this form Riven goes into a half sleep state. Her mind is still very much awake, but her body is not her's to control. However Riven cannot communicate with anyone beside the wielder so if he abandons her to run for his life she won't know to turn back.

❧ ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
FAMILY
Riven comes from a complex past. Her family were poor farm workers, slaving away in the hot sun, dreaming of a better life when an announcement was made that every eligible girl would be brought forth to the Duke to be evaluated for marriage. Biding for a better future, her family escorted her to the Duke's home, where she waited with all of the other eligible girls. In a stroke of good fortune, the Duke chose Riven to be his bride. They were to be wed by the end of the week. The evening before the wedding, the house was set alight. The vampires had come to enact revenge on the Duke that had killed one of their own. Riven was the sole survivor. She crawled out of the ruins, covered in ash and burns. King Seylum, recognizing her strength, bit her.
When Riven awoke, she was distraught; riddled with survivors guilt. She was supposed to give her family a better life, instead, she had killed them all. Riven refused to drink blood, she remained in her chambers, taking no visitors. She did not want to live this life of immortality, not without her family. In order to revitalize her will to live, King Seylum erased Riven's memory of her past. He told her she had been in an accident and had lost her memory, nothing more. Upon discovering her power to turn into powerful weapons, he equipped her, recognizing her usefulness. Riven rose through the ranks, developing a thirst for murder and a taste for blood. She slaughtered countless, the screams of the dying becoming music to her ears. It was on one of these hunting trips that King Seylum was murdered by hunters. Riven narrowly escaped with her life and was named heir to the Seylum fortune. Now in a position of power, she was invited to meet with other vampires, learning more of their secrets.
Riven was tired of fighting and bloodshed and war, without the King, it was never the same. She vacated her home, turning the mansion into a house for wayward vampires who needed a hot meal and warm bed. She let her staff come and go as they pleased and decided to take a trip, to visit the vampires of old and new, across the world. She was only a month in when she was kidnapped from her hotel. A crazed man believed that he could restore vampires to their human selves. He dragged Riven to a shed behind his home, where he chained Riven and gave her regular baths in holy water. He stabbed crosses into, over and over again, and would force garlic down her throat. His methods were unusual. The man even attempted to summon the devil to return her soul. In a weakened state, the man left her, locking the shed and never returning. Riven waited, her body going into a deep sleep in order to preserve itself.
She slept for more than a century.
When Riven awoke, it was because part of the shed had collapsed inwards, nearly crushing her. Pinned by chains and swimming in debris, Riven began to cry for help, hoping that someone would hear her calls.

Riven poked her head into the office, following Viola inside. The door shut behind them, the office nearly full. Lorraine was sitting behind a desk, a demon to her right. On the left of the desk were Doll and Christopher, who were waiting patiently. The demon standing beside Lorraine introduced herself as Baronling Lana, the daughter of Baron Asmodeus. So, he was dead by the sound of it? It seemed that the Third Impact had killed plenty of prominent demons. How many vampires were left alive? Riven had to wonder. How many vampires that she had personally known were left? Her head hurt just thinking about it. Not all vampires were bad of course. Some were like her, uncertain of their origin, being a blood sucking tyrant the only thing they knew.

This Baronling, at least, seemed to work for Princess Charlotte, the one who had sent them the crumpets. Lorraine was proud of them, they had worked hard, as was evident by their exhaustion. It seemed tomorrow would be another hard day of work. Or at least, that's what riven had thought before Lorraine announced what they would be doing. A ball? Her brow quirked. Vampires didn't throw boring balls, they went all out of course, as was tradition. None of their holidays were coming up though, so what was this ball for? Riven looked to Doll, who seemed to subtly nod her head in confirmation. They were going to be walking right into a trap. Perhaps this ball was merely a guise to celebrate Riven's return to the undead living.

They would flush the vampires out, eliminate them all. "Not all vampires are bad," Riven murmured, "some are merely acting on orders." Besides, it would be nearly impossible to kill them all in one fell swoop. She sighed, it didn't seem as though she had much of a choice, even if it was presented as though it were meant to be one. "I suppose we should join," Riven replied, twirling a lock of pink hair around one finger. "After all, that is my home you'll be invading." That old manor was King Seylum's former castle. She had turned it into a vampire refuge before she had left and now she would be returning to kill all those it had harbored.

It didn't seem fair, at least, not to her. "Great," Doll clapped her hands together. "Come with me you two, you'll need dresses." Doll grasped Viola's shoulder and Riven's uniform, steering them in the direction of her room. They would need to look ready for a ball, Riven couldn't just waltz back in there wearing the uniform of a hunter and reeking of humans, now could she? Doll took them to her room, where she stripped both girls down and measured them, as though she did not already have all of their measurements. She directed Riven to a chair, picking up a pair of fabric scissors. "Sit still, I'm going to cut this mess," Riven's hair was indeed a mess, it was uneven, since she had lopped it off with a knife. Riven could not sit still though, she squirmed, cold without her clothing.

"Viola, a bit of help please," Doll smiled pleasantly, albeit she looked a bit odd holding up such a pair of sharp scissors while doing so.

|| Till The Day we Die || Pagan Fury ||

If Riven was all for it then Viola had no choice but to put her name in, the two of them would do this together, teaming up with the legendary Doll and Christopher, as well as Wolfe's berserker squadron and Baronling Lana here. The hotel was Riven's old home? Could that be the perfect opportunity to be bit and turn tail on humanity once and for all? Not that Vi wanted to betray them and fight for the vampires, she just wanted to be back with her sister again. It had been so long and Julia had taken care of her for so many years. It was only right to go back to her and make sure she was okay. "Hawk's probably already a vampire." Lana warned. "Since we already know any captured Tower Agent is bit and turned into one of them."

As for the former demons that were once a part of a pairing that was extinguished the moment the human was turned, many of them were happy to switch sides and go against humanity as a demon, for revenge for all the years they were forced to serve abusive and cruel humans as their Masters. Given Echo's colorful past, could she be one of those that chose to turn he back on the Tower Society? Only time would tell, but time would come tomorrow for them to find the truth. "Not all vampires are bad." Lorraine was happy to accept that as truth. "But our job is to fight for humanity, if there are any good vampires they had best stay out of the war. We can't go out of our way to protect ever last innocent vampire merely being forced to follow orders." Doing so would be suicide, it was a ridiculous strategy to take.

Now was time for Doll's favorite part of this mission - choosing clothing for all those involved to wear, particularly the girls where she could go all out for the ball. "Is it going to be a masquerade?" Vi asked, curious. "Or will our faces be shown?" Considering the vampires, it might just be another masked ball, just like the one years ago at Duchess Camilla's manor, who turned out to be possessed by Baroness Rowena unknowingly. "Fine, fine." Yue allowed herself to be pulled by Doll to the next room for fitting and measurements.

"Um, sure." Violet decided to place her hands on Riven's belly to provide warmth, knowing her vampire was a little chilly. "Sit still, then you'll look great. You have two hundred extra years of hair after all." Her stomach growled, Viola really just wanted to go eat but she was going to be stuck here. Oh well, she reached into her bag for her candy that was always on her. Sure, it was laced with drugs. But still, it was candy. Surely having some now would satiate her hunger for the time being, right? It wasn't going to cause any harmful effects to binge a few candies right now, right?

"It won't be one," Doll shook her head. "The vampires aren't keen on disguises," the demons on the other hand, loved a good surprise. That was why they loved masquerade parties, albeit it wasn't so that hunters could sneak in. Doll spoke as she measured them. Taking in their inseam, bust, waist, and height. Just in case it had changed from the day prior. "Remember," Doll said softly, "We're walking right into their nest. This will be a trap at best and a slaughter at worst." She stood upright and brought out a chair, forcing Riven into it so she could take care of the mess that was her head. Riven squirmed, she didn't want anyone to touch her, but Doll was insisting, making Viola join in on holding Riven still. She lay a blanket down around the floor so that it would be easy to clean up.

Riven was cold, but Viola's hand was warm. "My hair is fine," Riven grumbled as Doll began to snip away at it, pink locks falling to the ground. Riven's head began to feel significantly lighter as Doll finished up, running a brush through it to get out and cut any tangles that were too big. Riven grimaced as Doll tugged, eventually pulling her pink hair up into twin tails. "There, much more presentable. Now you look less like a homeless ragged dog and more like a Princess." Riven rose and put her clothing back on as Doll began to pull materials out of the closet. Had she come all the way to Paris with so much fabric? How did she know that she would need all of it? "You two can go, eat dinner and rest up, tomorrow will be a busy day." Doll waved them away, wanting the dresses to be a surprise.

"I have a feeling Doll is going to go over the top with these dresses," Riven sighed as the door closed behind them. "Does it really look better?" Riven inquired of Viola, since she could not look in a mirror. Her stomach growled, hungry for dinner. It seemed that training tonight was cancelled on the basis that Christopher and Doll were too busy to do anything with them. "I can't wait for dinner, I'm starving." Riven followed Viola to the dining room, not yet having memorized the route there. The others were already there and eating by the time they arrived, tucking into the food with gusto. It seemed everyone's missions today had taken a lot of energy out of them and Riven didn't blame them.

She sat down next to Viola, reaching for the bottle of blood set on the table. After how hard they had worked today, it almost seemed a mercy to sit down and rest her feet. Riven felt the room swaying, exhaustion fully setting in once more. She drank slowly, relishing the cold taste of it on her tongue. Across the table, Elise was making a subtle face of disgust, attempting to hide it behind a napkin. "Hey, who trimmed your hair? You look less like a dog and more like a person!" Jacob barked, but he was smiling. "Be nice," Dominic nudged him in the side with his elbow. "I think it looks good. Did you do it Vi?" Dominic asked her, his smile warm.

|| Till The Day we Die || Pagan Fury ||

If they were going to go to the ball, Riven was going to have to look ready for the part. They had to be at least a little bit sneaky before the fighting inevitably began. Viola knew her duty, she had to help make sure Riven would get her hair done because right now it just wouldn't do. There was something nice about the untamed mess of long unfathomable hair, but it did not suit the ballroom setting. Doll was tending to their dress needs as well as dealing with the hair. "I'm going to miss your long hair, but this is needed." Vi smiled at her vampire, grinning. "Don't worry, you'll still be just as seductive to me even with your hair cut."

Once it was finished, Riven asked how she looked. Because she was a vampire only magically-enchanted pictures were able to show what she looked like. A mirror would not suffice. Doll snapped a photo with the camera no doubt touched by mages and showed the film to Riven. "You look fit for a ball." Doll said with a satisfied little nod of the head. Vi nodded too, she approved of the look. "See? Just as attractive as before. How am I going to keep my hands off of you?" Once this business was dealt with it was time for dinner again. The food was as always, quite delicious over the din of the crowd. The gathering of hunters as they ate at the other tables were a bit rowdier than normal. "It wasn't me, it was Doll herself." Vi replied with a sneaky grin at Riven as she answered Dom's question.

"My, you really do look like a different person." Elise said, fangs hidden under her polite mask of a smile. "Though Doll was lucky to have such a pretty model to work with." Right? Elise understood, she knew just how beautiful Riven was, inside and out. "She's a terrifying bloodthirsty vampire, and she's mine, so I won't be afraid." Vi was definitely mocking Riven now, nuzzling her cheek against hers. "One of these days Riven's gonna snap and murder Vi." Jacob sneered, watching the scene as he ate. "How do you handle her, Riven? She's missing some gears in her head." Dominic casually patted Jacob on the head, grinning from ear to ear. "You say that, but you're not much better yourself." Jacob huffed air from his nose but did not fight back because everyone knew Dom had the most sense out of everyone.

After dinner Vi escorted Riven up to her room where they would part for the night. "I'm going to sneak in again tonight, okay?" The german giggled as she stated her intentions outside the room, feet stepping on the red velvet carpet that decorated the entire building's halls. "Get some rest, okay? We have a big day tomorrow." Only when it was just the two of them did Vi's hidden kindness often show itself. She closed the door, locking it shut "Will I still need the candy when Riven turns me?" She asked herself quietly. There was a chance that maybe she would be free. Time to go back to her room. Doctor Luis Reamus was a genius. But for all of his genius, his creations, the Blood Pact, were all defective. All but four died, and the four who remained would live short pitiful lives. The medicine crafted killed them slowly, but without it they would die regardless, wouldn't they?

Riven sat in her normal seat beside Viola, the food smelling delicious. She didn't want any tonight though, right now she only had eyes for the red crimson in her glass. She did not miss the subtle look of disgust as she took a sip. It wasn't as though she could help it. Sure, Riven liked to eat human food, but her body couldn't actually digest it, she couldn't live on human food. Blood was the only source of real food for vampires, as much as Riven hated it. She wished she could eat real food all the time, she wished she could be a real human and not have a price over her head or be a prisoner to the hunters. There were so many things that Riven wished, even though she knew wishing something was a fruitless effort. The only way to make a change in one's life is with hard work.

Elise gave her a back handed compliment. Or what Riven felt like was a backhanded compliment. Riven only smiled patiently, "I certainly feel like a different person." She replied, taking a sip while maintaining eye contact. Elise cringed, looking away. Riven counted that as a win in her book. Elise turned to Viola, who was much for palatable for her tastes. Viola made a joke that she wasn't afraid of Riven, not that there was any reason to be afraid considering she was the shortest one here and significantly weakened. Jacob made a joke, mentioning that one day, riven would snap and kill Viola. It was certainly possible, it wasn't as though vampires hadn't done such a thing before. Especially considering how easily trusting Viola seemed to be. Riven would do her best not to kill her though, she almost liked Viola.

"I should think that you handle Viola in the same manner you handle a dog. You give her treats and call her a good girl." Dominic and Jacob both laughed, but Elise was frowning. Of course, Riven was the pet here, Viola was the one in charge. Still, it seemed that Elise did not approve of their antics. Dinner was nearly over and they finished the meal in relative peace. Riven rose, prepared to take off her clothing and fall right to sleep. She followed Viola back to where she was staying, Viola revealing that she was going to sneak in at night tonight again too. "Alright, but maybe bringing a sleeping mat in case you fall again?" Riven was fine with it, she wanted to test her new theory after all. Once the door closed, Riven turned, starting as she saw something unexpected on the bed.

A bat. There was a bat in the room, laying on her bed. In a puff of smoke, it turned into a demon. How had she not smelled it from outside? Perhaps the room had contained the scent? "Hello Riven," the demon smiled amicably. "Who are you?" It wasn't anyone Riven had met before, or at least, not in memory. "My name is Krane, you don't know me, but I'm very well acquainted with the Seylum family." The demon rose, coming closer. "I've served the Seylum's for generations." He bowed, black hair pulled back in a tight ponytail. "You'll be at the ball tomorrow, I expect?" He inquired, quirking a brow. Riven tried to calm herself. "How come I've never seen you with King Seylum?" She was immediately suspicious. "I have always been there, invisible. I watched you grow up, or as much as vampires can grow up," he corrected.

"A demon serving vampires is unheard of."

"Demons flock towards other with powers. King Seylum at one point, was the most powerful being with free reign. I went to him to seek freedom and was in debt. Now, I wish to serve you, Riven."

"Thank you, but I don't need you."

Krane merely smiled, "that was your Papa's reaction as well." Her heart leaped. "How did you-"

"I told you, I've always been there, watching." Krane rose, "do not hesitate to call me. You are the true Princess, the current King is a disgrace to your kind."

Little black night dress? Check, perfect. Cute figure? Of course, Viola took good care not to overeat to make sure she could maintain this baby. She smiled, doing a bit of a twirl. How could Riven possibly resist her wiles? Well, Riven was two hundred years old, it wouldn't be surprising if she found someone a bit more daring, a bit more pretty. Probably someone that wasn't a freak and hybrid as well. "Still, well, I think I look good." Viola grinned wider, wiggling her hips in the mirror. "Oh, I'd tap, but Riven doesn't seem to wanna yet. It's early, give it time." Was she talking about romance, or being bitten? There were stories that vampires would target you based on physical attraction, but at this point it was anyone's guess what Viola's goal was.

"You're talking to yourself." Elise was waiting outside, fiddling on her phone. "I overheard you. If you're going to assault her tonight, you probably shouldn't." The blonde's expression was unreadable as she spoke. "I overheard Riven talking to someone as well, even if it was supposed to be impossible for her to be talking to someone." That was interesting. Was it a scandal? Was Vi going to have to posture and hem and haw to prove her claim over Riven? "What did you hear?" She asked, tilting her head. "Thank you but I don't need you." Elise said in Riven's voice. "That was your papa's reaction as well." Viola's playful smile fell off as she realized this was serious. "I don't know how this is happening. I'm half a remind to report Riven as a traitor because of it." Viola scowled, not liking that option. Sure, it was possible... but they couldn't jump the gun on this. "I'll figure out what's going on. Don't do anything until I give you the info tomorrow." Elise nodded, deciding that was acceptable. "Take care. You're one of my only friends, I'd rather not lose you." Viola gave her a flippant wave of the hand and an arrogant smile. Of course nothing was going to happen!

Right?

Viola opened the door, looking around to see Riven, cute as always, on her bed. There was another creature too, a bat. While it wasn't strange to talk to a bat, this wasn't just any normal bat, Vi wasn't an idiot, she knew the bat had been talking as well. "Don't move." Viola muttered to the bat, locking the door behind her. Was this dangerous? Possibly. "Riven, make sure it doesn't move." She was invoking the order because this was a matter of security. If a demon was able to sneak past their defenses, then that means any Baroness would be able to do the same and attack them from the inside. This had to be dealt with, whatever hole in security this was Vi needed it remedied.

Glistening with a silver shine, Rhomphaia's ten blades were at the ready almost instantly. "Show me your true form." Viola told the bat demon, nicking her finger with the blade, eyes turning a bright crimson. She was ready to fight if she had to but she would much rather she didn't. "Who are you? How did you get here? Are there others?" She put a hand on Riven's head then. "Only I'm allowed to touch her, cute Riven is mine!"

"The Current King is Gavyn, correct?" It seemed that Krane could have some use after all. "Yes, he is ruling with Iflet Seylum, his right hand." Riven sat down on the bed, Krane began to go about the room, tidying things up. She had not given him permission to do so, but it seemed the chaotic state of Riven's room was an annoyance. "Iflet is not his Queen?" Krane shook his head. "No, he cannot take her as Queen as she is not a Princess." There were seven vampire King's, the Seylum's having been the strongest. Each had an heir, a Prince or Princess. "He does not seem to care for her, as much as she cares for him." This was an interesting tidbit of information. Riven kicked off her shoes, Krane lifting them almost instantly and placing them in the closet.

"Anyone he cares for? Anything he seems personally invested in?" Krane seemed to think for a moment. "There is a human blood servant, I do not know his name. He is young, small, he seems quite unhappy." Riven listened, she would report all of this to Viola, somehow. "Athena is still the Master of the hotel, she has taken many vampires underneath her wing." That was a relief to hear, but Riven may just be their demise tomorrow. "I'm glad she's still around," she had a small smile on her lips when she spoke. "She was the one who petitioned the King as soon as she found out you were alive." How had she found out? In fact, how had anyone found out that she was there? "Who told them?" Riven demanded quietly, it bothered her, for some reason. "Why now? Why did no one rescue me when I needed them most?" Krane frowned in thought.

"You needed to sleep Princess, the world needs you most now. It is in a terrible state of unrest-" Riven held up a hand to silence him. He was just going to give her non-answers. "Shush!" Riven rose, hearing something outside. The door opened, it seems that they had been caught. "Viola this isn't what you-" but Viola wasn't interested. She invoked an order almost immediately, pain shooting through her chest, reminding Riven just what sort of position she was in. "Krane, do not move." She ordered through grit teeth, hissing in pain. She was still wearing her uniform, the crest just visible beneath her shirt thanks to its illumination. Krane looked between them, a sly smile touching his lips. "So, this is your Master."

He glanced between Viola and Riven when Vi demanded to see his true form. He changed, grinning, fangs flashing. His hair was long, tied back with a single hair tie. He was wearing a suite and white gloves, immaculately dressed. Viola placed a possessive hand on Riven's head. "My name is Krane, I followed you back from the battle today. I hid in Riven's hair. Admittedly, I was tangled, but Doll incidentally freed me when she cut me out." He shook his head, "I alone came. I served the Seylum family for generations and since Riven is next in line for the throne, I thought I might reveal myself." He was kneeling, using slow movements so as not to startle Viola. "I will be taking my leave now, have a good evening Ms. Viola, Princess."

With a flash the demon seemed perfectly willing to explain and answer all of the queries Viola forced upon him before disappearing just like that. She ran a cautious hadn through her hair in reflex, just in case an enemy was hiding inside of her hair as well. There wasn't, she was clean. She sighed, looking at Riven apologetically. "Sorry, I had to use it to make sure I would get my answers." She explained, hoping Riven wasn't mad at her for abusing her power. "If enemies are getting into your room, I have to know how and why. It's the best way to keep you and all of us safe." Hopefully Riven would understand. "If you're mad at me, I don't mind going back to my room."

She looked up hopefully at Riven, maybe there wasn't hatred or anger but an understanding? "But if you're not mad, then can I stay here and sleep with you like last night?" She released her Blood Pact, eyes going back to their normal blue. She did a little wiggle to appeal to what she hoped was a friendship. "I even dressed up cutely for you, Master!" She even faked the cat hand movement to appeal to Riven's sense of - wait, Riven probably would have no idea in the slightest what antics she was up to right now. "Tomorrow we go to the Grand Vienna Hotel. This will be the biggest mission yet." They would hopefully rescue Echo and Hawk this way. "Echo is Doll's younger sister and Hawk is her human handler. They were instrumental in defeating the Kings in London, so it makes sense to want to save them." They, alongside two other veteran pairs, went missing entirely in Berlin.

Once morning came, after the usual bathing ceremony, Viola decided to have a word with Elise before everyone got down for breakfast. Elise was waiting outside her room, knowing Vi would have to go there eventually in order to get a change of clothes as she only brought her night gown with her to Riven's room. "So, what's the verdict? You're alive, and that's good, but I'm still worried." She wanted her answer now. "Krane didn't seem malicious, and he left pretty instantly. He snuck in via Riven's hair, and Riven did not know he was there either." Enemies hiding in their hair - hopefully this wouldn't result in an order from the Crown that all Hunters are to be shaved bald.

"Okay." Elise smiled gently. "I'll go tell Lorraine that demons can hide in our hair or clothes, so we have to do a check after every mission so we don't lead them here." She went off to make the report, but looked back Vi's way for a moment. "I'm glad you're alive." Viola flashed two fingers, a peace sign. "Of course! I'm super cute, Riven wouldn't hurt someone as cute as me." Okay, maybe she would. She did not seem to know what cuteness was after all.

At the breakfast table they were joined by Doll and Christopher while the other three were still getting their food from the front. "You two are you train with us in preparation for the mission tonight." Doll instructed, knowing they had no choice in the matter. Christopher's grin widened. "You'll be learning how to ballroom dance, because as far as I'm aware, dear Viola here has two left feet when it comes to dance." Viola scowled, shaking her head. "It's not my fault! Elise kept putting her feet in my way at the New Year's Festival!"

Riven breathed a sigh of relief once the hold on her was released. Krane disappeared like smoke into thin air, he seemed rather unperturbed Viola's supposed threats, albeit it was Riven's head that would pay for it. Viola seemed almost apologetic that she had, had to use it. Which Riven didn't understand considering Viola had used it twice before, granted Riven would have let her die had she not enacted their contract. "It seemed he slipped right through our hair. Or rather, my hair." Riven said jokingly, running a hand through her hair as though she were checking it for more fugitives. "I'm not mad, you did what you had to, to protect yourself and the others." Riven was only in slight pain, which was already quickly beginning to fade.

She wriggled out of her uniform, still wearing it considering she had spent this entire time speaking to Krane and gathering information. "Stay, leave, I don't really care." Riven's words were slightly muffled as she pulled her top over her head. She crawled underneath the blankets, cold. "Please make your decision quickly, we have a long day tomorrow and I want to turn off the candles in the ceiling." Riven wasn't trying to be rude, but tonight had been another reminder that Viola was not her friend, as much as she pretended to be. Riven was still their enemy, still their prisoner. She pulled the blanket over her head when Viola called her master. "What game are playing at?" They both knew Riven was not the master in this situation.

So Echo was another demon? She had thought that Doll had some strange sentiment towards the name. "Must have been awfully harsh to be struck down by your own children," Riven murmured as she drifted to sleep. When morning came, she was awoken by Viola, who dragged her to the bath to get ready for morning. Both of Riven's uniforms were dirty, so she opted to wear one of Doll's dresses, knowing they wouldn't be leaving the base until it was time for the ball. Viola left to collect her things and Riven waited for her to return, glancing at herself in the mirror. Yes, she really did look much better with all of that matted hair gone. When Viola came back, they made their way in relative silence to the breakfast table.

At the table, Riven looked round for the cereal, but found it was absent from the table. "Where's my cereal?" She looked around, disappointed. The others hadn't arrived yet, but Riven had been looking forward to the sugar crispy bite all morning. Riven rose and grabbed a box off of another table, bringing it back to their own. It wasn't the same one that she enjoyed, but it was better than nothing. She poured it into her cup and then the blood over it, mixing it with her spoon before she took a bite. Doll and Christopher suddenly arrived, claiming that Viola and Riven had a private practice session with them. It wasn't sparring, however, it seemed that they would be learning to dance. "I can dance just fine, thank you," she huffed. "You're probably two hundred years out of practice," Doll replied, shaking her head.

|| Till The Day we Die || Pagan Fury ||

Dr. Luis Reamus walked about the room as he examined the reports at the end of the first day. All one hundred subjects were implanted with the demon's soul piece that was most compatible to their own souls. It was a hard process, but now the subjects were no longer human, but rather something in between. According to his notes and theorems, they would likely live normal human life spans but maintain their age at the time of turning until their deaths. They would be considerably stronger than a human, enough to be able to combat vampires. "Sir." One of his lesser scientists came up to him, with the final report. "Forty of them have died in their sleep after the implantation." When Luis went to examine each of the corpses, left as they were the moment they died, they all looked like full demons.

But because the human body is not strong enough to handle the mana and miasma inside a demon's soul piece, the humans died excruciating deaths. "Give me the data readings on their bodies." Luis told the scientists as the data was relayed to them. He wanted their statistics at the moment of death, and the hour preceding death in order to learn more. He was also going to need to get readings on the sixty survivors in order to properly access the cause of death and any attempt to mitigate the damage in order to ensure the rest of them survive.

...

It was agony. Ever waking moment felt as if her insides were being ground up in a meat grinder, a hand punching into her stomach and crushing her organs to bits from within. There were a lot of deaths, the children still remaining were far less than they were just yesterday. Viola looked around - some of the younger ones were screaming, begging for help, to be saved from the pain. The blonde girl's eyes were shut and she was meditating to try to elevate herself above the pain. The brown haired boy was gritting his teeth, muttering about 'I'm strong enough to beat this' to himself as if it were some religious mantra. The boy with the white streak in his midnight hair was glaring murder, not allowing the doctors to come check him. Eventually the sixty survivors were rounded up and put into another room for observation for the time being. No longer would they be strapped to the strange chairs.

A blonde boy spoke up, clearly in pain but he was one of the oldest in the group. He walked himself up the front of the room, limping, dragging a weak limb behind him. "Everyone, please, calm down." Viola hoped people would listen, she was not exactly a fan of all the noise, it was making her headache worse and her insides throb harder. "It hurts right now, but every surgery hurts. We'll all work together and support one another to move past this." The blonde boy addressed them. "We're all here for a reason. We're going to be humanity's trump card to defeat the vampires. It's our duty to survive and become an army to save the world." He gave a weak smile, trying to sound strong. "My name is Oliver Rance and I think we should all be a team to get through this."

Some people listened. Some of those who were screaming felt almost inspired, some continued to scream and wail, a few people were murmuring. "I think a leader would be a good idea." The blonde meditating girl pitched in from the back. "We should all get to know each other for now." The white streak boy stood up then, staring at him as a specter of death himself. Clinging to his leg was a smaller girl with the exact same streak in her hair. "My sister and I never wanted to be a part of this." He slammed his foot on the ground, the stomp scaring everyone around him into silence. He was big too, strong. "I'd wager a good number of us were kidnapped and forced into this program." He held his stomach, he too, was in agony. "Stop spouting bullshit about duty, about saving humans. They never did anything for us to owe them saving." It wasn't going to listen to Oliver's attempts, and some of the other kids gravitated to him, agreeing. They also did not want to play along.

"We're gonna break out and escape." He growled. "We're gonna get our lives back while you dogs lick the hands of the masters who hurt you."

It was obvious that the two groups were going to come into conflict. Viola didn't really want any of it. Someone tapped her shoulder then, grinning. She tried to ignore him but the shoulder pats got more and more annoying. "What." This was all a waste of time anyways, Vi just wanted to be a vampire. It was the brown haired boy, what was he doing here? "You seem cool, you're not getting involved in the stupid people over there." While a lot of people were sticking to Oliver or the white streak boy, a small number were undecided and remained away from the groups. "Let's be friends. My name is Jaocb, and I'm going to surpass my brother." Viola was annoyed but with the way he was smiling she knew he wasn't just going to leave her alone. "Viola." She snapped. "Now eat shit and die." He laughed, deciding to sit down next to her.

Riven rose from the table, bringing her cereal with her. Doll and Christopher led them towards the gym, but turned, going into what appeared to be a studio. They indicated for the two to change shoes, having brought along a pair of heels. "You'll be wearing these at the ball, so you're expected to grow used to them." Riven nodded, removing her flats and putting the heels on. It only give her three more inches, which wasn't much in the scheme of things considering how small she was. "Much better," she looked in the mirror. The shoes were black and shiny, the heels capped so that they could not leave markings against the floor. "Alright, I'm ready." Doll clapped her hands together. "Now, I'll practice with Viola, Riven, you take Christopher. We'll be the male, since both of you are females. Then you'll dance with each other." Riven nodded, lining up with Christopher, who was several heads taller than she.

"Now, place your hands on your partners hips. Now, step to the left, one two, good. Now, to the right, one two, now back one two, and forward one two. Now turn and dip," Riven found the rhythm familiar, almost comforting. She fell into the steps quickly, it was almost a comfort. The music began to play overhead, a sonata, one that was unfamiliar. Beethoven was after her time, after all. "You're not bad," Christopher smiled as he twirled her. Riven returned it, "it's like riding a horse." Riven compared, "the body remembers," he laughed. "These days we call that riding a bike." A bike? What was that? Her confusion was apparent. "You still have much to learn," his laugh was warm, friendly. It made Riven's cheeks tinge pink; it was no wonder Doll had fallen for a man like him.

"Alright, now, we're going to learn another step." Doll clapped her hands together, "don't get too familiar you two." She smiled, but it was teasing. "Now, place your palms against each other and walk a half circle towards the left," Riven's palms were quite dry, but Christopher were warm. Their palms pushed against one another as they turned in a half circle one way, "now put your palm down, ladies you'll grab your skirts and turned in a circle. Like this," Doll showed them, lifting her dress ever so slightly. "Never reveal the ankles, that would be uncouth." She turned, "men will watch. Then, you'll put your opposite palms together again. Go ahead, try it," she gave them a minute to become familiar to the move. "And turn the other way," Riven turned, placing her palm against Christopher's once more.

"Now step back and dip into a curtsy," Doll took a step back, dipping slightly, bending at the knees. "Always at the knees, never at the waist," she instructed them. "It would be impolite to flash the person behind you," Riven dipped into a curtsy, reminded of her fiftieth birthday ball. Vampires didn't really celebrate birthdays every year, rather, they waited every fifty years to throw a large soiree where they could show off their homes and feed on as much blood as they wanted. "All too easy," Riven grinned, placing her hands on her hips. "Alright, now we'll switch partners." Doll smiled, "I'll be with Riven, Chris, you take Viola." The demon sidled up beside the vampire. "Ready?" Riven nodded, the music starting over. Doll took her hands into her own. Unlike Riven's cold ones, Doll's were warm and slightly damp.

"Eyes on me, alright?" Riven nodded, "Of course," they began to take the steps, Riven's shoulders relaxing slightly. She had been nervous for nothing, her body truly did recall the steps with ease.

❝I always did like to dance.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#a10d17 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #8c8987

|| Till The Day we Die || Pagan Fury ||

Viola had always been an agile type. Due to the acrobatic nature of her combat style, she had a lot of control over her body's minute movements. So surely learning how to dance wouldn't be so hard, would it? She was quite new at it for sure, but that didn't mean she was going to be awful at ballroom dancing. A part of Viola why she was even going along with this - it would make more sense for Dominic and Elise to have been invited. Elise was good in high society-style settings, she would blend in quite well. And Dominic's strength in battle and his natural charisma would make him a definite asset. Viola in a polite ballroom setting was like setting a bull loose in a shop full of delicate things named after an Asian country. And here she was, learning how to dance with three inch heels.

Doll and Christopher were giving out the lessons and Viola felt she was doing a good job. After all, she was making very sure that she was never ever going to stop on Doll's feet. "What are you doing, exactly." Doll asked, looking somewhere between curious and confused. "Dancing?" Viola tilted her head, was she doing something wrong? "What? I didn't step on your feet." Every time Doll moved her feet closer Viola would abruptly, almost violently jump backwards to make sure there was no foot stepping. "No, I can see that, but that isn't dancing, that's fighting a battle." Viola grimaced, narrowing her eyes. "But it would be bad if I stepped on my partner's feet during the dance. So I'm making sure that doesn't happen." Doll crossed her eyes at her. "If you follow the steps it wouldn't happen regardless."

Riven was doing quite well though, and Viola frowned. Something about how Riven was dancing looked really good. Viola also wanted to look really good so that she'd be able to dance with Riven and not have it seem weird. The best part would be that if she became good enough, she'd be able to sneak touches at Riven's arousing spots and have it simply look like part of the dance. "It's gonna be even harder with a long ballroom dress." Vi shuddered. "Focus." Doll said gently. "Follow my movements and allow me to lead you. As long as you know how to be lead, you should be okay." She looked down and nodded. "And the long dress should hide any wrong moves your feet make." So much for having faith in her, right?

Now they were going to swap partners. Viola grinned at Chris, and he smiled, taking her into his grip, assuming ballroom dance mode. "It takes practice." He said as they got started. "You won't be good at it right away." Vi decided to try to do what Christopher's body was guiding her to do. After two hours of this together Doll and Christopher finally reached a point. "You're almost not terrible now." Doll said with a smile. "With a long dress you'll be able to hide all of your mistakes." They did their best, Viola just wasn't good enough. "It's okay." She grinned, hiding the failure behind the smile. "I'm cute, so the cute will give me bonus points so I won't stick out."

Did she want her freedom? Of course she did, but Riven wanted her freedom to be on her own terms. She did not want it to be conditional or bribed. Hence why she had yet to bite Viola. That and she did not want to ruin the poor girl's life. Even if she continued to insist that this would make everything better, that this was what she wanted; Riven was unconvinced. She did not think that Viola really knew what she was going to get into if she became a vampire. "There's no need to punish the girl," Riven replied briskly, acutely aware that their exits had all been casually blocked off. They were surrounded, but they were not sitting ducks. This was the situation that they had prepared for and had been expecting this entire time.

"A favor?" Riven quirked a brow as Iflet attacked, Viola dodging it. Their cover was already blown, it seemed that engaging the enemy was going to be their only way out. "I'm going to ask you to release Viola," Riven had not asked for Iflet to free her, she had merely been making Iflet aware of the entire situation. "Viola is an ally," she grabbed Vi's wrist and tugged her away, Riven was not at full strength, engaging in direct combat would only serve to further complicate this matter. "Since you are a Seylum, I will let you in on a little secret." Riven knelt down, ripping off a piece of the sterile looking white curtains to wrap around the deep cuts in Viola's arms. She was not going to let Iflet have Viola, even if killing her would free Riven. Viola had been kind to her, it was only fair to return the favor.

A male voice interrupted them, revealing that Echo had been released. They were supposed to send the signal now, weren't they? Riven walked forward, leaning close to Iflet's ear. She could smell it now, clear as day. This girl, this vampire, was not a Seylum, at least, not purely. "Kneel," she whispered, her eyes glowing red. There was something only those of Seylum blood could do, but they had to pure and they had to be in line for the throne. Iflet was neither. "Lick the blood off of the floor, you dog," Riven placed her foot on Iflet's head, pushing it downwards so that her cheek scraped the tile. There was a reason King Seylum was the strongest.

He could exude control over all other vampires by pushing his power into his voice.

Riven had not known about this power until he had passed away. "If you attempt to touch my blood servant again, I won't be so merciful." She lifted her foot, releasing Iflet's head. "Oh and Iflet? You might want to look behind you, lest you miss the hunter about to break in through the window." Riven grabbed Viola's arm, tugging her out of the room. No one dare go after them, even if Riven had not exactly hurt Iflet, she had merely been warning her that there would be consequences. No, it was up to Riven to fix the mess that Gavyn and Iflet had made. Leave it to the Princess to clean up the King's handiwork. Just like old times.

"This place is about to become a blood bath. We must leave now if we wish to make it out in one piece."

~~~~
"Here, bundle up, it's cold." Doll covered Hawks's shoulders with a cloak. Echo was underneath it, the vampire smuggling her demon out, following behind Doll and Christopher. They exited quickly, making haste towards the woods. "The mirror," Christopher said softly, Doll reaching into her pocket. "We'll escape through here, you three go. I need to get Riven and Viola," Doll hesitated, grasping his sleeve. "I'm staying with you," he grit his teeth, but knew that he couldn't refuse. If things became bloody, he would need Doll here. "Alright, just you and Echo then." Underneath the cloak, Echo whimpered. "I can't," Hawks bit down on her lip, "I-I'm a vampire now, if I go there, they'll kill me."
"They're expecting you," Christopher assured her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Besides, I don't think Echo will go without you." He placed the mirror on the floor, the vampire clearly conflicted. At last she sighed, "I'm doing this for you," she murmured, Echo shivering underneath the cape, her teeth chattering. Hawks stepped into the mirror, disappearing with not a trace left behind. Echo screamed as darkness encapsulated them, tears springing to her eyes in fear. "It's okay," Hawks whispered, "there's a light, see?" She pushed the cloak aside so that Echo could see the small spot of brightness, the path illuminating their way. "I'm sorry," the vampire whispered, "I should have protected you. This is my fault." When they were caught, they had been separated. Hawks was turned against her will and Echo was taken to the dungeon. They had not seen each other since that day.
But Hawks knew of the unspeakable horrors. She had been forced to watch through a camera as Echo was tortured, day after day by Iflet's hand. They wanted information, of course, but neither Echo nor Hawks would supply it. She should have told them, she should have given the vampires what they wanted, if only to spare her demon from the horrors of being used as a pin cushion. "Are we going home?" Echo whispered, wanting nothing more than to see London again. "Soon," Hawks promised, "very soon."
They emerged on the other side, weapons pointed at her throat. "Identify yourself," a boy with black hair and a gray streak spoke, his eyes narrowed, teeth grit. "My name is Agent Hawks, of the Tower Society, London branch ID #38902 dash 884." With a nod, their weapons dropped. Hawks pushed the cloak back to reveal Echo, whose eyes were squeezed shut, as though she could disappear. "Bring a stretcher, please," the vampire urged. She set Echo down, who opened her eyes at last.
This was not Castle Seylum, this was another place. She did not relax though, in fact she seemed more wound up then ever, her tail swishing nervously.
A woman in a wheelchair pushed past the group of hunters. "We've been expecting you, welcome to the HQ."
Doll opened the door as quietly as she could manage, the lights in the room had been dimmed, but Echo was surrounded by concerned faces. Her sister had curled up into a ball on the edge of the stretcher, covering her ears, her eyes closed. "Move," Christopher urged, pushing the doctor out of the way so that Doll could sit beside her. The dress Echo had been wearing was replaced with a hospital gown, an ID tag on her ankle. She was shivering, but Doll had the sense that it wasn't from the cold. "Echo?" Doll whispered, gently attempting to pry Echo's fingers out of her ears, noticing the scratch marks and spots of blood around them that were already beginning to heal. Demon regeneration was a fascinating aspect of their bodies. "Echo it's me, it's Doll." Christopher managed to round everyone except Shiro up, shoving them out of the room.
With the quiet, Echo seemed to release the tension in her shoulders, slowly opening her eyes. "Doll?" She whispered, her voice hoarse. It was clear she had been screaming. "Is it really you?" Tears jumped into Doll's eyes, she had never seen her sister so uncertain before. "Yes," Doll drew Echo onto her lap, into her arms, hugging Echo close and rocking back and forth. Christopher indicating that he was going to leave, perhaps to find Hawks and Doll nodded, knowing that this was a conversation she and Echo needed to have privately. "Who did this to you?" Doll whispered, brushing Echo's hair out of her face. The smaller demon had once had pale golden locks, now they seemed white, almost gray. Was it a result of stress? Or being kept underground for so long?
"I-Iflet," Echo stuttered, the name alone enough to make her stiffen. "It's over now," Doll assured her, "she won't hurt you again." Echo sniffled, tears running down her cheeks. She buried her face in Doll's chest, her sobs quiet. The door opened and shut, a familiar man stepping into the room. Doll was surprised to see Wei here, of all people. He wanted to speak to Echo, to ask her what had happened to Flo. At this, Echo began to shake once more. "If she isn't ready, she doesn't have to tell you about it," Doll glared at the man, who was insisting that Echo tell him everything. That it was urgent they know what had happened to Flourspar and her human partner. "Flo is.... Flo is... dead." Wei nodded and sighed, he had been afraid of this. Slowly her tail unwound.
Doll realized then that she had been holding on to something this entire time. "It's her soul piece, isn't it?" Echo nodded, tearing up once more as the remains that Echo had been keeping hidden in her tail were laid out onto the mattress. Wei removed his glasses, running a hand over his eyes. "She-she made me-" Echo stopped, retching over the railing, she had not eaten though, not in weeks. "I drank her blood." She had forced Echo to eat Flo's wing and tongue and when Echo had thrown it up, she had made the demon lick it up until she could keep it down. She described it in shaky words, having to stop frequently to retch or sob, whichever came first. Eventually, Wei gave Echo a medicine to calm her and allow her to sleep. She slumped in Doll's arms, her eyes becoming lifeless. "Just try to sleep, okay?" Doll urged as Shiro tucked a blanket in around her, "I'll be back in the morning, I promise."
Riven and Viola were pulled away from one another, Viola going to have her injuries checked while Riven was escorted to her room by Dominic and Jacob. "Thank you Dominic, I do appreciate it." Riven twirled a lock of hair around her finger, glad that the mission had largely been a success. "I will reclaim my throne, in due time." She was not shy in her admittance, but neither was Jacob in his unapologetic laughter. "Bold of you to assume we'll let you," he grinned. Dominic rolled his eyes, opening up Riven's door with the key he had borrowed from Lorraine. Riven closed the door behind her, startled by Krane's presence.
"Princess, you seemed to have made quite a stir at the ball." He grinned from ear to ear as Riven removed her cloak, Krane placing it in the closet. She kicked off her shoes and took her hair out of the coif that Doll had put it in. "Yes, well, the mission was accomplished and for that I'm glad." She sat down on the bed, eager to sleep. "The King had a good long look at you," Krane spoke as he went about tidying the space absently. "Good, he should know what the future Queen will look like." Riven replied, wondering whose side Krane was truly on. "He wants to take you for himself, for you to rule beside him."
"A fool," Riven replied, "he has no idea what it means to be King." Krane disappeared when the door handle jiggled, Viola turning up, sporting her new, permanent bandages. "No, actually, I can barely smell them." She lied, removing her dress and stripping down to her negligee. It did smell tempting, of course Riven wasn't going to tell her that. "I'm only sorry that I couldn't pull you away sooner, now you'll have to deal with those for the rest of your life." She looked at Viola, rather confused why the hunter had handed her the candy. "I guess?" Riven picked up a piece, wondering what game Viola was playing at as she held out a piece for the hunter to eat.
"Where am I?" It was her earliest memory. Waking in a strange bed, a girl she did not recognize reflected in the mirror she sat before as a woman with blonde hair brushed her pink locks. "You're in Castle Seylum, you're safe now." She smiled, canines gleaming in the low light of the evening. A man dressed in dark robes stalked into the room illuminated by the crackling fire. "So, you're finally awake?" He inquired, he too, had teeth that were as sharp as knives. The light bounced off of them, he was a binding beacon of darkness. "Where am I?" She repeated, frightened, clinging to the white sheath that covered her body. "You you safe now," he knelt in front of her, a hand brushing her cheek. "You are in my home. I found you in the midst a fire, barely alive."
That explained the bandages, the burning sensation whenever she moved. "Who am I?" Her previous self had been erased in a desperate attempt to keep the child from attempting to kill herself. "Your name is Riven, I've decided." He rose, he shared a glance with the blonde haired woman, who nodded. "It's best not to ask too many questions, you'll only confuse yourself." Her voice was soft, but her words implied that Riven, if that was truly her name, was not to ask anything more. "I don't feel well," she knelt forward, her stomach roiling, gnawing at itself. "You're simply hungry, come, sit up, don't kick a fuss." The blonde haired woman forced her upright and pushed a cup into her hands. Riven screamed, dropping it, the woman cursing.
"Blood! Why is it blood!"
"You must drink it."
"No!"
"Drink it, you'll feel much better."
"No!" Two others came to clean up the mess and a third to help our the drink down Riven's throat as she struggled, gargling and gasping until she was forced to swallow. It was sweet on her tongue, but still, she did not want it. The man had been staring out the window, he came forth, his eyes glowing. "Drink the blood Riven," she felt nauseous as her hands acted on their own, raising the cup to her lips.
And she drank.
And she cried.
Riven awoke to the sound of Viola humming, morning having broke already. She yawned and rolled out of bed, shuffling to the bathroom to follow her. "Your wrists," they had soaked through the bandages. Viola seemed to ignore it, however, even as she winced and grimaced with each motion of the hand. Riven squirmed in the tub, able to sense Viola's pain and discomfort. She shivered as the warm air hugged her, drying her off quickly. "There is something..." Riven stopped herself, taking in a breath. She needed to control her desires. "There is something I can do to ease it," it would not stop the bleeding completely, but it would stave the pain, if only a little.
They had a break today, thankfully. Riven was glad for it considering that things would only escalate from here. The others would be leaving to take care of missions, which would give Riven plenty of time to relax and not have to be underneath their scrutiny. She turned back towards Viola, having yet to get dressed. "Let me see your wrists," the vampire directed, her tone a bit demanding. She unraveled the bandages slowly, allowing them to fall to the floor. "This isn't a permanent solution, but it should slow the bleeding." Riven wet her tongue, ensuring that it was properly sticky before she slowly licked the wounds, covering them in her spit.
Vampires had self healing properties, it was only natural that it would be integrated a bit into their saliva. She wrapped the cuts back up and turned towards her closet. Since it was a day off, there was no reason to wear their uniform. Instead, Riven opted to wear one of the outfits Doll had made for her. "I'd like to see that Echo girl, but I doubt we'll be able to get near her. Can you convince them to let us speak to Hawks?" The human-turned vampire would have important information.
Viola had other ideas though, she wanted to simply take it easy today. "Orgia?" The vampire inquired, she had no idea what that was.
Riven shook her head, she had never heard of this supposed Goddess. "I don't know what the date is, no one tells me anything." Riven only knew the time of day from the sun. She had assumed it was winter, considering the snow that sprinkled the ground. It hadn't seemed odd to her, but now that she knew it was only October, it was rather strange that it was snowing. From the top of the building, she could see that the trees had the colors of fire and yet, the powdery white substance was drifting from the sky. Riven looked upwards, wondering why such a strange thing was occurring. There were early snow falls, but never hard enough to stick. Riven tilted her head to the side in question, listening as they walked.
"A light seed?" Riven tapped her chin in thought, Dominic explained it, it seemed Viola held a grudge against those who were supposed to protect and failed the Light Seed. "When I was a child, we used to tell stories of a glowing girl." Riven srunched up her nose in thought, looking up at the sky as she attempted to recall the story Athena had told her centuries ago. "There was a girl in the woods. No one knew who she was or where she had come from, but sometimes, when things were amiss and the miasma became thick enough, she would appear." Riven jumped out of the way of a child on a bike who had nearly run them down. "They say that the animals would protect her, they would guide her to the trouble and she would sing a lullaby that rid the world of the miasma. Then, in a flash of bright light, she would disappear."
Riven had to wonder if they were the same girl. They reached the surprise Dominic had arranged for them, Riven's eyes widening. She entered the shop, the smell intoxicating. "Everything looks so good," her mouth was watering at the sight of the beautiful, delicate pastries. "Elise doesn't like sweets?" Riven inquired, wondering if that was it. Viola had picked what she wanted quickly, her made seeming made up. Riven had no idea what she wanted, as these were the fanciest, most delicate pastries she had ever seen. "I don't know, it seems cruel to charge Dominic because my eyes are bigger than my stomach." Dominic nodded his head in appreciation, sighing in relief.
"I'd like one of those please," she pointed to the pastry called a Napoleon. "You can get one more," Dominic nudged her, "my treat." Riven bit down on her lip, "a box of macaroons?" Since Viola seemed to fancy them as well and she could share. Dominic pointed to the box and paid for their goodies. "We can eat these on the bench," he steered them outside of the shop, to a pink bench situated just to the side of the door. Riven opened up the box, the sides falling down to reveal the crisp layers of puff pastry, supple custard, and chocolate ganache gracing the top. "It's too beautiful to eat," Riven's fangs glinted in the light of midday. Dominic handed each girl a fork so that they wouldn't make a mess of things.
|| Till The Day we Die || Pagan Fury ||
The exact details of what they were was a mystery. Oliver came back as a demon, but it seemed even more did not come back at all. Did they all become demons and were experimented on and disposed of? Or did something special need to happen to be a demon? Viola didn't know, none of the details ever were given to the survivors in the end, other than that if they didn't have medicine, they would die. "I always thought it was strange." Doll said quietly, looking at Viola. "Why do you hybrids need medicine, but others don't? Princess Charlotte and Ariel both have soul pieces inside them, but they're perfectly stable and are immortal thanks to it." Obviously, that had to mean Luis's experiment wasn't just implanting the soul pieces, but involved something else too, something more intensive.
With some blackmail - a genius and attractive move from Riven that made Vi's mouth water a little - the King sisters agreed to help with their plan. Doll now wanted more details on what exactly their plan would be. "Well, you know the big fight about to happen for Heidelburg?" Both Melody and Doll nodded, as both had important roles in helping prepare for the assault. "It's going to be a bloodbath." Melody shook her head, looking anxious. Maybe she didn't like fighting anymore, maybe she was weary after so much of it for so long. Ever since Baroness Zinnia had freed the Kings, nothing was ever truly peaceful since. "We're gonna escape after opening the gate." The Blood Pact was assigned to sneaking in to get the gate to the city opened. If they could do that, then vanish into the chaos it would be nigh impossible to chase them.
"What about Jacob? He won't be at the battle." Doll narrowed her eyes in questioning. It was clear if she did not like their answers she may retract her offer to help. Vi was going to have to be convincing. "That's where you and Mel come in! If you can smuggle him out the way you did Echo, we can meet up with you and him and make our way." That was a lot of responsibility to put onto the two of them, but no one else would help them. It had to be these two. "Three months. Will you be able to kill the Seylums in time?" Doll crossed her arms dismissively. "You might be good, but that's not much time at all." If they wanted to put Riven on the throne, they needed to be able to fight. Without being hybrids, a fight would end in Riven's death. Even with the four of them, it would be dangerous.
"My sister is there. I'm sure she has friends." Julia still loved her, Viola knew it, right? Obviously their sisterly bond would be strong after all these years. "I can talk to her and get her and her friends to help us against the Seylums!" Melody looked as if she liked that idea. "Yeah! Sisterly bonds are great!" She gave Doll a hug, wanting the interogation to stop. "Every moment I was with the Adamanta Mages, I kept thinking of you, sis." Doll looked less believing. "Wasn't your sister the one that nearly killed you with a whip?" Viola laughed robotically. "It was out of love?"She tried, shrugging unconvincingly.
Doll groaned, rolling her eyes. "I want to have a plan that sounds like it can work. Otherwise, you're all just marching into death." Doll sounded strict as she spoke. "You'd best be able to sort all this out. You have to be prepared."
"We'll fix the kinks, we're going to make it work," Riven was determined to make this plan go smoothly, she needed it to. Staying here, with these hunters, with these humans, it was a dead end. "You're sick of it too, are you not?" Riven spoke softly, "The fighting, it never seems to end." Doll's shoulders sagged, if just a little bit. "We were bred for war," Doll and Riven had known each other for a very long time, of course. Melody and Echo had yet to be hatched. Melody was still an egg when Riven had disappeared. Yes, the two demons were that old. "This was your purpose too, was it not?" Doll's eyes met her own knowingly. "King Seylum did not wish for war between the vampires and humans. As much as the hunters tried to stir it up, his intentions were never to exterminate the humans."
She glanced at Viola, "We have Viola's sister on the inside. Even if she tried to kill her, I'm sure she did it out of desperation. I'm certain this was not her wish for her." Doll nodded, she glanced at Melody. No doubt the eldest of the three King sisters did not wish this for her siblings either. "And if that doesn't work, I'll kill them all myself. They are Seylums, after all." Riven could control them, she wasn't sure how many at a time, as she had only ever seen King Seylum use the ability over one vampire in particular. It was usually used for the recently turned and unruly. Riven had been on the receiving end of it multiple times, she knew it wasn't a pleasant sensation to have your limbs turned against you.
"We have to go," Melody glanced at the clock on their tent wall. They needed to get to their squad meeting before they would head out to fight. "Good luck," Riven murmured as they passed. Her shoulders sagged, she breathed out a sigh of relief once they were alone. The vampire took the handles of Viola's wheelchair once more. "That was easier than I thought it was going to be." The vampire admitted, wondering if she should be suspicious. Melody had seemed to take to her though, even if it was merely out of her feelings for wanting to protect her sister. Riven knew their secret, she could tell on them whenever she wished. Not that she would of course, as that poor demon and vampire needed time to rest.
"You don't think they'll betray us, do you?" Riven asked Viola as she wheeled them out of the tent and to where they were supposed to meet Wolfe. Hopefully this was just scouting and they wouldn't have to do any fighting, as Riven wasn't wearing the uniform and she wasn't in the mood either. "Oh, there you two are!" Lorraine chirped, spotting them. "I checked the medical tent, but you weren't there. Riven, hold out your wrists," the vampire sighed, having expected this. The silver cuffs clapped down, her skin crying out in response. She felt dizzy, having been freed of them of them for so long only to be reduced to half strength once more.
For now they were going to help but that could easily change if Doll didn't think they were prepared for it. After all, their own necks would be on the line if this went wrong, they had to be careful and make sure it worked. The sisters left then, so Viola and Riven had to go too. "We hope you help." She said to Doll and then smiled at Melody. "And it's nice to meet you, Melody!" She had only seen the singer once before, and that was in Frisia in the fight against Wernicke. Riven was worried that they may betray them but Viola shook her head. "You told us to trust them, so I know they're okay." She and Doll appeared to be old friends, from before all of this. Surely that wasn't for nothing.
Lorraine arrived, with Fifi behind them, familiar silver cuffs in hand. Poor Riven, she had to be shackled yet again. Hopefully it didn't hurt, but Vi knew there was nothing she could say to help her for now. "Aww, cute." She dangled the collar still on Riven's neck, touching the bell. "I love my wife so very much!" Lorraine sighed, seeming exhausted for some reason. "Sorry, but this is the way it has to be. The others are getting anxious when you don't have them on." Viola frowned a little. "But I can keep her under control, right?" Lorraine looked at her with sympathy. "They don't really trust you either after you cut your throat the other day. We have to go, but take care, okay?" She looked at Riven in particular. "Don't do anything foolish."
It wasn't long until they arrived at the hangar. Wolfe was already there, sporting a grin. Naturally he wasn't going to wear a helmet, he would never need one because he was too cool for it. "There y'all are. I was wondering if you'd ever get here." The hangar tent was large and tall, it had to be to be able to fit all the vehicles the Alliance would need to be able to fight the war against the vampires and demons. "We're here!" Wolfe helped her into the side car and allowed Riven to get into hers after Viola had Riven help her with her helmet. "I'm an expert, but you kids still need helmets just in case." He grinned, revealing a fanged tooth before revving the engine and they set out.
The northern highway would take them to Cologne. Naturally, they didn't have to go all the way, since hunters in Cologne would be doing their part and patrol halfway as well. "Do you like fighting, Wolfe?" Vi asked, wondering why he was in this. A man like him didn't seem to be the type to care much about the fight of humanity. "Not really. Maybe more when I was younger." He was still young, but definitely getting on in years now. One day soon he could be a grizzled old warrior. "This war better end soon." He grit his teeth. "I gotta get back to Ariel. It's been years, the girl must be worried." For once he seemed anxious, his usual carefree smile not on his face.
"I thought you did." Vi looked at the noon sun bearing overhead, not hot enough to melt away the snow surrounding them. The blizzard from the other day had gone away but it was still frigid out here, moreso than in the town of tents that was Koblens. Wolfe had to act strong, otherwise he wouldn't keep the respect of his Berserkers. Still, that didn't mean he was happy to be here. "A man gets weary after a while, y'know? I can only live so long." There were more lines on his face than the last time Vi saw him. "One of these days, even my luck as a pretty boy may run out." Who would take care of Ariel if not for Wolfe was the unasked question. Even more reason to end this war quickly. They needed to get Wolfe back to his little girl.
The week rolled on slowly. They met each evening, all of them, under the guise of visiting Jacob. With Doll on their side, he no longer feared death at the hands of his brother. Doll had not told anyone else, she simply said she would be going to visit the ill and Christopher thought nothing of it, using the time to call Shiro, who was with Sonata. The poor baby missed her parents, but would have to make due until they returned from the forefront. She hoped that by ending this war faster, she would get to spend more time with her baby. Doll had chips on this bet, they had best make good on their promise, lest they seek the wrath of the strongest demon-hunter pair London had. The day before they were set to leave, they were fitted for new uniforms. These ones were lined with fur, much warmer than their previous ones, which would help them survive the tundra.
Riven did not protest when she was fitted and handed a new outfit. It looked virtually the same, but was a bit thicker. She was allotted a knife as well, but it was silver and she could not touch it with her bare hands. It made sense of course, as it was the only effective tool against vampires. If only they had recalled that she too, was a vampire, when giving it to her. She had nearly burned her fingers on the foil. Nevertheless, sheathed the weapon, figuring it might come in handy later on. Thankfully the thick layer of clothing prevented it from touching her. The evening before, she and Viola were sleeping in a regular tent with two beds, a small heater between them. "Tomorrow," she whispered as the lights went out. Tomorrow they would make their escape.
They were up at sunrise, a trumpet blasting throughout the camp as it did every morning, at 5 AM. Riven wasn't happy at having to wake up so early of course, but she knew it was essential to get an early start, as the vampires and demons would be changing the shifts soon. The breakfast tent was bustling with activity. Riven felt tense as she sat beside Viola, reaching for her blood bag. "Do you think the winds will be bad?" She asked causally as Elise and Dominic joined them. "The weather is actually supposed to be pretty sunny, surprisingly," Dominic said, handing Riven the cereal he had gotten her from the breakfast line. She brightened instantly, mixing it with her blood. The salty, sweet contrast was pleasant on her tongue, if not a bit gross for all of the humans watching. She would need to ask Athena to buy this Colossal Frosted Crunch for her once they returned to her castle.
Their bikes were waiting. They passed Doll and Christopher, the demon giving a subtle nod. Riven sat in the sidecar, pulling a helmet on, her dead heart thrumming in her chest. This was it, the moment they had been preparing for. Why did dread fill her heart? Was it because she knew that they were leaving the others behind in the blood bath? Was it something else? "Ready?" Riven asked, well aware that they had been tasked with breaking the gate down. The plan was as follows: they broke the gate down, but instead of retreating as they were supposed to, they would rid themselves of their contact equipment. A meeting point had been set up with Doll and Melody, where Jacob would be passed on to them. From there, they would take the bikes and drive as far as they could.
Hopefully they wouldn't get caught. Hopefully they wouldn't get caught in the crossfire and killed.
