Description

Name: Arkus Chem-Rager
Race: Full blood Orc
Class: Alchemist

Image
Physical description: Arkus is a true orc regarding his physique, standing at a monstrous 7 feet tall and weighing in at 321 pounds. (Believe it or not, I actually rolled this height and weight using the official height and weight chart). He has cropped hair with a short braid in the back. Coming from the rough lifestyle of an orc tribe, he is well muscled, and well scarred with one scar going along his jaw-line on the right side of his face. His possesses the usual orc traits, such as enhanced vision in the dark, tusks, and so forth.
Armor: Having been part of an orc tribe with heavy focus on raiding, Arkus tends to keep it light with leather armor with minor metal reinforcement around the neck. This leather armor is brown, well taken care of, and has a few old battle scars decorating it. He also wears a trench coat so he can keep his alchemical ingredients, extracts, and poisons in easy reach.
Weapons: A falcata sword, a heavy crossbow, a mix of bombs, and poisons. Arkus is also in possession of a unique Glaive-Guisarme known as Blood Lust, this weapon has a shaft made of umbrite, dense, dark metal that actually slowly absorbs the light around it, making shadows darker. This weapon also has a blade made out of blood crystal, which has been tainted a deep crimson color. Silver decoration loops around the shaft of this weapon, giving it a frightening if somewhat graceful appearance.
Spells: Arkus possesses a book filled with alchemical formulas for extracts, poisons, and bombs. He wrote this book in the orc language. Examples of formulas known by him are Bull's Strength, Enlarge Person, Ice bombs, cure light wounds, paralyzing poison, and a mutagen which drastically changes his form.

Personality: Arkus secretly longs for a real connection with people, friends, family even if an orc can dream. Orc tribes don't focus on the family or the tribe as a whole, rather, it focuses on the might on an individual so connections between people takes on a near nonexistent role. He has a soft spot for women and children, who often got the worst treatment in an orcish 'society,' and his temper flares when he see's someone weak being mistreated solely for being weak. However, his kindness is not to be mistaken for naivety, he knows people are likely to hate him just for being an orc, the result of this a withdrawn bitterness in a man who seeks allies instead of rivals.

He speaks using a deep, powerful voice that has been trained since his birth to command others to listen. Due to his lack of experience with having any real friends, he is somewhat awkward in social situations. Even more laking than his social skills in his knowledge of outside cultures, further complicating his task of finding a true family.

History: Arkus was born in the camp of The Blood Thorns, a raiding tribe well known for operating in The Grey Forest on the continent of Garund. His immense size both complicated and paved his path through the tribal society, keeping the majority from challenging him but calling to those who had something to prove. He frequently wondered the forest, sometimes staying away for days at a time. Very few people, noticed his absence, except for one. This especially perceptive orc was know as Durra, one of the weaker females in the tribe. Despite her weakness, she was taken on as an apprentice by the tribe witch doctor. The witch doctor taught Durra the art of healing, in return Durra was to replace him. During on of the trips in the forest, Arkus was attacked by a wolf. He was able to defeat the wolf, but not before he had been bitten on his arm. Upon returning to camp, he was healed by Durra. His first real connection had been made. She taught him the ways of alchemy and in exchange he worked to make her stronger.

Arkus went on to become a strong warrior for the tribe, his immense strength serving as both sword and shield while on raids. Durra became one of the tribes better witch doctors, having more... humane methods than her predecessor. It was going as well as it could for an orc until Felzak, another warrior noted for strength, seconded only be Arkus, made Durra his wife. Arkus's life became a cycle of raiding by day and comforting Durra by night. He was fairly content with this cycle, until he was until a raid went bad. It was a merchant caravan, should have been an easy hit, except for the guards. An elf shot Arkus with an arrow in a particularly bad spot, nearly killing him. His odds of survival were fairly low, a tribal doctor can only do so much.

He was nearly dead, a day after he had returned to camp Durra healed him with some medicine that he didn't recognize, it didn't appear to be a tribal remedy either, something more..advanced. While he was no longer able to fight, Durra showed him more alchemy, including bombs, and compounds that increased the user's strength. it was Fall then. In Winter, while he was out in the forest collecting more potent ingredients for his extracts and mutagens, it was discovered Durra had made a deal with elves for medicine. A deal that gave up a fair amount of plunder. She had made the tribe feel weak, and that is the largest sin one can commit in an orc tribe. Upon the sounds of scream Arkus hurried back to camp where he saw during dying, and with that, he drank the new mutagen.

Caravans in the area reported a roaring dragon somewhere in The Grey Forest. A cry of rage no humanoid creature could commit. In the middle of a forest, a broken man holding his dead friend, surrounded by ash and ruin.

Arkus Clan-Killer

Arkus had made a name for himself as a mercenary, and not just any mercenary. To his clientele he was one of the best caravan guards in the continent of Garund, having knowledge of the land, how to make both healing potions as well as debilitating poisons, his mysterious connection with the Black Thorns, and his own physical might. Most frequently he was hired to give merchants who were traveling through the Gray Forest protection against the manner of things that dwell within. In the past the primary concern would have been the now destroyed Black Thorn tribe, however; with a power void comes a power struggle. Smaller orc clans, goblins, hobgoblins, and even troglodytes were competing for who would take the dominant role and with it, the best plunder.

The mountain of an orc, who had until now been content with quietly sitting in the corner of the tavern, rose to his feet upon hearing the popping and the whistling. Grabbing his iconic weapon, Blood Lust, as well as his crossbow, and paying for his drinks, he left to investigate. What he found was... interesting to say the least. In the middle of the small crater was a rather small woman and a man who was talking to himself. Harvesting his powerful voice, he called out to the man.

"What is the meaning of this?"

"What is the meaning of this?"

Morris is startled by the voice of the orc coming from behind him and turns around to see who it is. He looks rather surprised.

"Hmmm... Don't i know ya? orc, a few bottles hangin' round your waist. You're Arkus, aren't you? a guard-for-hire for the caravaneers. Heard some things about you, included the small... Incident, where you survived an assault from a dragon on your tribe. Only survivor."
Morris leans in closer to Arkus and whispers to him "I've seen my share of alchemists, and i believe that's not what happened..."
He moves back again
"But whatever. You want the meaning of this? i came here because i saw something shiny and it crash-landed here while i was taking out a corpse from the bar, you probably saw me. And it turns out, this girl is the shiny thing that crash-landed here. So that's pretty much it.
She's an Aasimar, go nuts asking stuff to her. I'll stick around in case bad things happens."

Morris moves away to let Arkus see the girl, and sits at the foot of a tree.

"Oh and i'm Morris. Morris "ShallowGrave" Aberrigan, ex-gladiator and rogue. Pleasure to meet you, orc. Hahaha..."

Arkus nods in confirmation of the strangers question. It wasn't extremely odd for people to have heard of him, he was well know around the Grey Forest. And how many 7' tall orcs could there really be? Especially alchemist. His eyes narrowed at what the man had implied. Most people had accepted that what had happen was in fact a dragon attack. In fact, most of the locals were happy the Black Thorns were gone, one way or another. He reached up and gently grasped the vial around his neck.

"Do not presume to know such things."

The man sat down against a tree, leaving Argus to check on the girl, it was possible he could heal some of the damage.
"You know, for falling out of the sky, you look much better than one would expect. Although I'm guessing you can't walk... Do you want me to take you to the tavern?"
