Something writhes under Miskatonic University, something strange and dark.

Introduction

Miskatonic University.

A prestigious school, for prestigious students. A bastion of intellect, of prosperity, to be enrolled in Miskatonic University, to walk through its halls, to know the secrets that it shares is to know success. Or is it to know madness? For Miskatonic is not simply a bastion of mortal intellect, it is a bastion for knowledge of the unknown, and things that are known, but would prefer not to be.

Home to over ten thousand books about things from before time, it has become an enclave of supernatural and occult knowledge going back to eras where man had yet to raise himself from the primordial ooze. Still, this secret history is not known to many, and those who do know are either unwilling to tell, or unable. It's history stretches back, back to the first colonization of America. It has stood the test of time from the very cusp of the 1700s and it holds secrets far more ancient than even the most well read of occult scholars would believe. Here, lies the ritual for summoning the nameless mist, here, lies the rotting carcass of an Elder Thing, here, lies true knowledge, the worst kind.

Many unspeakable things have happened under these aged walls, not all were kept under wraps. Secrets, even those not meant to be known, have ways of getting out.

To say it ends solely at the University would be disingenous though. The town of Arkham, Massuchettes hides many horrors from its inhabitants, and those that it can't hide the residents hide from the newcomers. Arkham is a secretive place, with layers upon layers of intrigue. Rumors still abound however, about the fish-lipped people that trudge under the pier at night, about the gelatinous beasts that squirm and writhe under the skin of a man, eating until he is nothing but a shell for them to dance about in. "Still", the intelligent student body scoffs, "rumors is all that they are." The stories are forgotten now, lost within themselves until a later day.

They lay forgotten, forgotten, and with time a new breed of student comes to Miskatonic. A breed that carries smartphones, a breed that utilizes the internet and carries itself with an air of ignorance about the occult. Now, the psychotic ramblings of someone who has seen too much is not only heard by those whose ears they caught, but by anyone who knows a url. They've grown complacent in these new times, they've forgotten to lock their doors at night, they've forgotten to fear for their children and spouses, they've forgotten the true meaning of paranoia. They've forgotten the things that scream bloody murder under the sea.

Miskatonic will remind them all.

You will play one of the six students who end up embroiled as one of their classmates is attacked in the night.

Roleplay requires approval from both Jack_Benimble and Rulke to join. Each candidate must provide an example new or old of their writing. Dedication is essential so don't join unless you know you can stick in. Also, please PM me or Rulke once you send us a character, the roleplay system doesn't notify us and while we would get around to accepting your characters normally this allows us to move the roleplay at a brisker pace.

Now, time for rules. Rules aren't my favorite part and I would love to assume that everyone is mature enough to to know what to do and what not to do, so I will. Instead, these rules will be more along the lines of roleplaying suggestions. Things to help everyone add to the mood of the roleplay.

Rule 1: As previously stated, dedication is essential, this is the most important rule on this list. If you only ever read one rules, this rule should be it. You should get this rule tattooed somewhere on your body, it is simply that important. None of these other rules will matter if you don't stick around for the long haul.

Rule 2: Don't get attached to your character. Your character is a mortal human in a lovecraft rp, their chance of survival is akin to that of a suicidal mayfly.

Rule 3: Understand that the things you will eventually be called upon to witness are horrors beyond the scope of anything humanity can imagine. They are monsters that terrify other monsters, don't have your character chance upon a Shoggoth and then walk away unharmed and completely sane.

Rule 5: Ignore the fact that there is no rule 4. (Think of it like the many missing of Arkham. Just assume a Shoggoth ate it.)

Rule 6: For the passage you are to turn in, to show that you are the roleplaying equivilant of a twelve year old amontillado, please don't plagiarize. If you do, and we catch you, (google exists for a reason), you will not only be banned from the roleplay but reported to a mod, then followed home and beaten to death. Also you may end up with a very interesting book in your possession.

Detective Quinn - 2:49 am - Police Station - Quinn's Office

Closing another file he sighed and stared wearily at the clock. They had searched all the leads and all he found were more walls leading to mazes of mirrors which seemed to point back to nowhere. It was frustrating to say the least. Abigail Clark a twelve year old kid taken off her lawn, what had this town become? Well that was a lie Arkham had always been like this, since it's inception, many strange things happened. A whole village nearby had vanished called Innsmouth, the University had many queer or unnerving things occurring. Arkham wasn't normal, but he had lived here all his life and knew this town superstition did it no favours, and people fears escalated to ideas which seemed absurd or unreal.

Grabbing hold of the boiling mug he took a long sip and stared at the files scattered haphazardly around his desk; missing people, strange deaths, animals going missing, ritual markings found it just went on.

Pulling a small picture out his wallet he looked over it sadly, his seven years old daughter Rhona, the only thing that kept him going.

Snatching the furthest file on desk he opened and began to read:

Mass amount of Homeless Missing Presumed Dead

Wyte

Fred

Joe Gorn

Dareen Pilla

Vahn

Kyle

Grant

Each name had scene of where they were and various pieces of evidence. Blood stains and more.

The thing about these events is that no one cared. But this was alarming as they were all near the university. He had been told to ignore this, but the thing obsessed him. It wouldn't do any harm to investigate tomorrow and see if he could find anything explaining what was going on.

Switching nearby lamp on he let his mind slip into detective mode to begin working on this.

*****

Terance - 3:30 am - Alley near the University.

Scowling in disdain he looked at the building before spitting on the ground next to him. Fuck that place and all people who wanted to get into it. He had been one of the fools who wanted to go there, but due to many events like his girlfriend strange death and other reasoning he ended up becoming hooked on heroin and now could only afford to steal stuff. Somehow he had managed to clean himself up, but it had been five years at that point and he sure his parents in New York thought he was dead.

Taking a long draw he heard someone approaching.

Before he even turned around he saw a glint of steel and found himself clutching his throat as the blood poured out from the severed artery, collapsing and trying to make a sound, but unable to make a sentence as death silenced him completely with a last guttural groan.

Silently a figure dragged the body away.

~Eliza Whittaker - 3:14am - Miskatonic University - Girl's dormitory.

Eliza Whittaker had woken up early the morning before to pack her things in the van and head to what would be the next four years of her life. She had made a checklist for herself, making sure not to miss a thing. Then she and her mother and younger brother had made the hour-and-a-half drive to the university and had spent the rest of the day unpacking and decorating her dorm room.

They had stopped for lunch and dinner, going to a fast food restaurant for lunch and a dining hall for dinner. After Eliza was tucked neatly into her half of the room her mother and brother had left with hugs and kisses and promises of 'real food' every time she came home for a visit. Not that the dining hall had had bad food, but it was college food and that was enough for anyone to know its quality and taste.

Eliza had crammed everything into one half of the room because her roommate was scheduled to arrive the next day. She had spent a few hours before bed watching DVDs on her 24 inch television and had fallen asleep during an episode of Xiaolin Showdown. Now, after a peaceful sleep she found herself wide awake sitting in bed. She could swear she heard someone scream and she listened intently for further noise. Her heart was pounding and she could feel a trickle of cold sweat down her spine but there were nothing but crickets outside her window. She sighed and lay back down on her back, then reached over and hit the 'play' button on her remote control. It was a while before she could get back to sleep.

10am - Miskatonic University

Cayden Myers was ready to start her new life here at Arkham. She'd chosen Miskatonic University from the hundreds of others because of the campus, the choices, and for the quality of it's courses. She'd packed up her car yesterday evening and early this morning so she could make it within good time to the campus, find her room and move in smoothly.

It was 10am when she arrived. Starting out at 7am had paid off and now she found herself outside her room moving everything inside by herself. Her parents had wanted to come and see her off but she had wanted to go herself. She was starting out on her own now. It was her life and she wanted to do it herself. That's all she'd ever wanted - to move away from home and have her own independence. Her parents hadn't wanted that. They'd wanted to keep her close. They'd wanted her to go to the university closest to her. Instead, she'd chosen one pretty far away.

"I've arrived, mother." She spoke into the phone. She'd promised to call once she'd gotten herself sorted.

"How's your room? Is it clean? Big enough? Check for any damage so you're not held accountable."

"I've checked it." She sighed, "and the room is fine."

"I miss you. I really wish you'd chosen somewhere closer."

"I've gotta go mother, someone knocked." It was a lie. No one had knocked. She didn't want to have that conversation with her mother for the millionth time. "I love you."

"Love you too, call soon and I'll talk to you later. Be safe."

Cayden hung up. She would be fine. Smiling, she got back to unpacking her room and making it her home for the next four years.

Adrian M. Wilborn [11:27 AM] [Arkham, Massachusetts]

Aidan stepped off of the Boston-Maine Express, onto Arkham soil. Or more like Arkham pavement, the city had long since turned from a small town to a bustling student metropolis, though the old fashioned architecture that had been prominent at the time of the city's construction was still evident if you looked around, especially in the area around the university campus itself.

Adrian looked at the map he had printed off before he had left, He'd just left the B-M Station, so he was on High lane, he needed to head over the river to reach the University, then it'd be easy to reach the tenement he was to be staying in. He'd seen pictures of the place he'd be staying online, it didn't look luxurious, but the rent was low. He'd manage to survive, somehow.

He set off in a southern direction, planning to visit the admissions office at Miskatonic, then scout out his neighborhood before night fell. Though he was from out of town, while browsing online he had heard that Arkham could be unpleasant if you were caught alone in the dark.

Eliza awoke the next morning still feeling tired. She hadn't slept well after waking up in the middle of the night, she'd had strange dreams. She got dressed, wearing faded jeans, a yellow Iron Man t shirt and her red canvas shoes. Quickly she tied back the long strand of hair and grabbed her student ID and keys, and her wallet which was attached to a chain that she could clip onto her pants. She headed out of the girl's dorm and over to a dining hall where she could catch some breakfast. She still had two days to learn the layout of the campus before class started and she wanted to make sure she knew it well, she had a tendency of getting lost, with a poor sense of direction.

Eliza ate, then wandered the campus, locating the library, an art museum, and the science building, as well as a few other dormitories and parking garages. The campus was a little bit bigger than she had anticipated and she ended up at a convenience store just off-campus to purchase a soda. She sat on the curb outside the store, watching traffic and people, and a long-haired mostly black dog with white on its chest. It was wearing a red collar with tags and was greeting people who stopped to fill their vehicles' gas tanks. Most people ignored it.

Angel’s first day had proven quite hectic during his move into the dormitory. It seems that despite Arkham’s size that the Hispanic population was still near to non-existent in the area, and he had met with quite a few hard stares and ever some harsh words while he was trying to find his room. These were just some harsh realities of life for an immigrant, and Angel had been faced with such obstacles his entire life. As he saw it he had as much a right to be here as anybody else.

Not all the students were as critical of Angel and his father though, and a kindly instructor had pointed him in the right direction when he stopped to ask politely. Angel’s accent was still apparent, but it was nowhere near as bad as others in his family who did not have the same talent for speaking foreign tongues, and sometimes it helped when others it stopped. It had only taken an hour for the two of them to move his small amount of furniture to his downstairs room.

He had brought a black-cushioned futon with an auburn-colored wood frame with several emerald green pillows, a white sheet, and a thick white cover that has the Mexican flag emblazoned on the front that he had folded up and put in a corner of his half of the room. At the foot of the futon, and set about two-feet off from its base, he placed a medium-sized black desk with a towel folded and sitting on one half with a dark brown lamp that has a light brown shade on the other half. On the towel sat an electric burner with a wok placed on top for his cooking needs.

Two shelves had been placed above the desk, the bottom one being used for his cooking utensils and fire extinguisher that the university had politely asked for him to have nearby, and on the top shelf he placed all of his school books that he would need for the impending classes. To keep the smoke from ruining any of his literature Angel always made sure to pull his desk out at least two feet from the back wall. Hopefully his roommate, whoever they would be, would not object to his cooking.

While his father was still around they had also taken the liberty mounting a mid-size television on the wall with a cord connecting it to a DVD player placed on the far-side of the lower shelf above his desk. By it there could be counted around ten videos of yoga exercises varying from beginner to advanced experience levels and ranging from twenty minutes to an hour-and-a-half that he liked to use on different days. His days always began and ended with these exercises.

After finishing with the move into the dormitory Angel’s father, Fernando, embraced his son and left for his motel room in the town. Luckily their company had just landed a contract at the school’s generator plant, and while it was not a very large contract it would keep his father in town for a month before having to return back to Texas. This would at least allow him some companionship with coworkers and his father should he not find any friendly company in the University.

As the door to his new room closed Angel decided it best to flop down on the futon and relax for a short while; he might even take a nap if the mood hit him. Doing this helped him to relax and focus on his breathing, sort of practicing a mini-meditation that would ease him into his new surroundings, but as he lay there his mind began wandering to the ensuing semester and what campus-life would be like for him. For some reason it seemed odd that, despite a university of this size, Miskatonic had a relatively small student-to-professor ratio, but for whatever the reason that may be he decided it best to not focus on such things and drift off to sleep.

After about a half an hour Eliza called the dog over. It trotted over happily and plopped down in front of her, panting directly into her face. Eliza laughed a little, ducking under the hot, smelly breath and catching the dog's tag. 'Roco:', then it gave another name and a phone number. Eliza reached into her pocket for her cellular phone only to discover that she had left it in her dorm room. She looked around. No pay phones in sight.
"Well, sorry Roco, looks like you're not going home just yet." She stroked the dog's head as she took a sip from her soda.

The sun had shifted and she had to scoot along the sidewalk to avoid its rays. The dog followed, wagging its tail. Periodically it would walk up to people in the parking lot and once or twice Eliza had to catch it before it followed someone into the store. Some people commented that she should keep better control of her dog, keep it on a leash, others told her what a beautiful, friendly animal she had.
"Too bad it's not my dog," she said under her breath.

Another fifteen or twenty minutes went by and an old-ish white truck pulled into a parking space. Eliza heard a whistle and the dog took off towards the truck. "Hey, Roco, you been havin' fun?" She heard a male voice ask. She watched Roco hop through the driver's side door and scoot over to the passenger's seat. As the man got into the truck she briefly made eye contact. He nodded a greeting with a smile and she waved. Then the truck pulled away.

Eliza had pretty much finished her drink by then and she stood, tossing the Styrofoam cup into an outside trashcan before going in to buy herself another for the trip back to campus. She took the same route back to her dormitory as she had taken to the convenience store so that she would remember the way and not get confused and possibly lost. She determined by the position of the sun that it was after noon, possible around one or two pm and considered finding another dining hall. She walked slowly, looking for a place that wasn't too far from her route back to the dorm.

By noontime Angel’s first day on campus had been rather uneventful. It had begun at six in the morning so that he could center his mind and body with a vigorous yoga routine to help shake off the prying fingers of sleep, and after his shower he had gather up his books for his first two classes in the day, Ancient History and Physics, so that he could sample the cafeteria food at the Herbert West Student Union. At the time there was a decent number of collegiate waiting in line and eating the meager, but not altogether un-delightful, cuisine offered by the staff. His plate loaded with scrambled eggs, toast, and oatmeal had gone down rather quickly with the box of orange juice he had snagged along the way, and soon he was off again towards the Ashley-Delapore Hall of History located not far from the Student Union.

This first class had been dull, but that was probably to be expected for the first day of class so that the professors could discuss course-guidelines and expectations, yet Angel assumed that this professor Ferdinand C. Ashley, who was supposedly a knight, seemed rather draconian with certain rules that had one student booted from class almost immediately. This act had served to demonstrate just how seriously the students needed to take this professor, but to Angel it seemed more appropriate to consider the fact that there might be one less student in the class who could take up the professor’s time. Unfortunately the rest of their time afterwards was devoted to examining the course syllabus and taking note of which pages to have read for their next session.

The walk from the Hall of History proved to invigorate Angel who had already grown slightly bored and tired after his first class. On the way towards the Tillinghast Science Center he took note of several police officers roaming around the school grounds, but as to why they were there he merely shrugged off as some routine patrol arranged by the campus to keep some semblance of authority presence. It turned out that his physics class proved even duller than ancient history the teacher proved much more relaxed that Sir Ashley had been and did not even need to have a student leave from class discussion. Once again they discussed the class and district syllabus whilst noting pages and several other books the professor deemed may be useful in the days ahead.

Luckily he had scheduled his school day so that physics ended at eleven and his final class on this day, philosophy, would not begin until one-thirty, which gave him plenty of time to talk into town and find a local grocery store from which he could purchase some food for lunch. After a package of chicken, an orange bell pepper, green onions, mushrooms, linguini, and several other amenities needed for cooking and cleaning he remember how hot it was outside and just how quickly the food might spoil. After glancing around through the ice chests he finally decided on one with a handle and wheels, and after filling it with a bag of ice so that he could keep his food chilled Angel began wheeling his purchases back towards campus.

The whole trip into and back from town had not taken but an hour, leaving him thirty minutes to prepare the meal and another thirty to consume what he needed. After finishing a light lunch he placed the leftovers in a covered bowl and placed it container delicately in the ice chest while using the rooms sink to clean his utensils and plate, taking care to clean the plates of any solid debris and disposing of it in the trash before commencing with the dishwashing. After noting the time, one-fifteen, Angel decided it best to be off to find his next class, which would no doubt prove to dull his senses even further with more syllabi that pretty-much all said the same things. It was almost like safety-orientation for jobsites that he worked, but with one major difference between the two, the orientations were better, at least you were getting paid to listen.

Adrian M. Wilborn [Arkham, Massachusetts]

Adrian winced as he walked out of the Miskatonic Admissions Office. Unbeknownst to him there had been a Ancient History lecture earlier that day, and, of course, he had missed it. Hopefully his teacher was some old fart who could barely remember to put in his dentures every morning, let alone check lecture attendance. Would that be too much to hope for? He would keep his head down next time he went to a lecture though, he didn't want to be called out for having missed the very first lecture of the academic year...

Adrian Walked along a grass lined pat, heading towards the Student Union hoping to catch a meal, and maybe even catch up on what he had missed at the Ancient History lecture. While passing the library Adrian noticed a pair of police men donning those wonderful neon yellow vests questioning a scraggly black man in a blue jumpsuit, probably a janitor. Adrian wondered what they were doing on campus. Maybe something had happened, a murder? The thought sounded a little more excited that it should be as it flew through Adrain's head. He didn't stop to ask the cops anything though, his stomach was definitely more important than any illegal activities occurring on campus ground, for denying himself food was the greatest crime of all...

Adrian grabbed a tray, and went through the options he had to choose from.
"Well... this wasn't expected..." He thought aloud. The dished he could choose from didn't look all that bad, despite what he had heard about the cooking's unsavory taste. He grabbed a plate of pasta, and found a spot in the cafeteria to eat his meal, then dug in.

Cayden Myers - Arkham

The first day had gone well. Cayden had made it to most of her lectures. She was enjoying herself and having a ton of fun at her new found freedom. She was so glad that she'd made the decision herself, especially with her parents still hesitating with her being so far away from home. It was great though. Cayden was in her element having the time of her life.

So, when she left one of her afternoon classes to see police around she was shocked. There was quite a crowd gathering around what had happened as the scene appeared to be taped off. She hadn't seen anything before, but somehow she knew that something bad had happened. Anything could of happened for the area to be tapped off, but there was something else that was sending a chill up her spine.

Something that made her feel that something real bad had happened.

Questioning the people around was ineffective, though. No one was giving information away. No one. That is if they did know. And curiosity got the better of Cayden as she decided to stay and watch. She wanted to know what was going on. After all, she was interested in all those forensic programmes on TV and she was curious as to what was going on down the alley. When a police officer came close, she seized her chance.

"What happened in there?" Cayden indicated to the alley. "Something bad?"

Detective Quinn - Outside Miskatonic

Wouldn't you have figured it, but he ended up getting a call next day about another bum disappearing who was most likely dead. Putting himself on the case he had headed to the location as soon as he had at least some sleep. The person he gathered that was missing was someone called 'Terance' he apparently hung a lot around the university. Following the crime scene photographer and CSI he let them talk through case.

"This happened sometime last night, about 12 hours ago. Fortunately it didn't rain last night and we got blood for confirmation. The weapon was left with body and there is a evidence of body being removed from here, but once we got to end of alley, we couldn't find anymore of the trail."

After that explanation Quinn replied, "We are sure this is connected to Bum murders?"

"Yes, he was homeless and was often seen around this area."

Leaning against dumpster he continued, "Have we checked his person effects?"

"Nothing pertinent..." then the CSI added, "We hit another dead end Quinn, sorry."

Sighing Quinn hit his hand against his head before leaving alleyway adding, "we did our best. We'll get them yet."

It was as he left the alley someone approached and asked him, "Something bad?"

Swinging around he realized it was student of that godforsaken university, "We're conducting an investigation into matter. It's nothing to bother your life about. I assure you."

A few days had gone by and Eliza had managed to make it through her first day of classes. Not too hard since most of them just went through the course syllabus. Her history professor had jumped right into a lecture but that didn't bother her, history was why she was here.

As she headed back to her dormitory she saw a crowd of people and flashing blue-and-red lights. She approached the crowd and saw police officers milling about looking important. She questioned a few of the 'audience' but came up with nothing. she did notice another girl also asking questions and approached her. The girl had just spoken to a police officer and Eliza thought maybe she had gotten some information.

"Hey, did you happen to figure out what happened here?" She asked.

Ashley had an almost full pack of cigarettes and a lighter sitting in his pocket, the smoke from the missing cigarette drifted out of his mouth and floated up to be tangled in the branches of the tree above him. It was cold, colder than it should have been this time in Arkham. "When is Arkham ever warm?" He asked himself, coughing into his gloves. A car passed by him, something flashy and red, probably being driven by one of the kids who got their parents to buy them into school. He coughed again, standing out here was murder on his lungs. He said two o' clock, it was now two thirty. Nigel was very, very, late. Eventually, a hummer drove up to the side of the street, and a familiar gaunt and reedy boy sat in the driver's seat.

"Hello sir. I'm sorry I'm a bit late, traffic was a bit heavier than I had expected." Ashley nodded and sat down, glad to finally be on his way. Nigel made sure that the entire ride was full of chatter, a low buzz of meaningless blither that made Sir Ashley think that Nigel was allergic to silence. Eventually the noise died down and Nigel allowed the professor to get a word in edgewise.

"Are you sure that the book I'm thinking of is where we think it is?" Nigel paused and stayed silent for a few seconds, as if picking his words out carefully.

"Almost, the twins are fraternal so we can't be... sure." Ashley nodded.

"I hope that this is the correct one for once. Just as you should."

With his threat floating in the air, choking off any other words that dared show their heads, the ride was peaceful and quiet. They rode into the city in silence, and went down the almost abandoned Garrison street without speaking a word. They had almost reached Water street when Ashley broke the silence, "Arkham isn't what it used to be is it?"

"Oh, well I think-"

"I remember how it used to be. Proud, years of tradition and schooling had made us strong."

"Yeah, I mean-"

"We had principles in the old days. We had bastions of strength that we followed!"

They went over the river and drove down West Street. Then, Nigel turned and stopped, right off of Hangman's Brook. They both got out. "Is it here?" Nigel nodded. "Then let's go."

Eliza had to leave the crime scene before finding out anything, or she would risk being late to her drawing class. She went through the two-and-a-half hour class like it was nothing, accepting the assignments, then losing herself to her art. The class was over before she knew it and her perfectionist nature had gotten her through only one-third of the project. Fortunately, that was all that was assigned, the other students still had one-third of their drawings, but they were almost all still sketched outlines. Eliza didn't draw rough outlines, all of the lines she drew stayed unless they were crooked or otherwise imperfect.

She stood from her seat and stretched, a couple of people commented on her hair and her World of Warcraft hooded sweatshirt. She thanked them and bade them farewell before slinging her DeathNote satchel over her shoulder and heading out the door.

Outside the air had turned even more brisk and she pulled the hood up over her head. This was the last class of the day and she headed over to a game and hobby shop she had found on her second day on campus. After perusing the various miniatures and card games she purchased two dragon minis and headed back to her dorm by way of a food court for a sandwich, chips, and a drink. Her roommate, Brook, had arrived the day after Eliza and, though she tried to hide it, was apparently thrilled that Eliza had all of her things on one side of the room. She was very picky and kept her things to herself, being polite to Eliza but Eli could tell she had already been judged and sentenced.

Eliza entered her dorm room, ducking under Brook's line of vision to the television she had set on a shelf on the wall. There was no way to miss whose side of the room was whose, Brook had decorated in bright colours, mostly green and blue. Her desk was littered with pictures of various vacations and her boyfriend and friends. Nothing was laid out perfectly, but it definitely wasn't a mess. Eliza had hung up a Fruits Basket wall scroll and a few pictures of friends and favourite characters from shows, movies, video games and books. Everything was set out neatly. Eliza had a touch of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, but not enough to rearrange her roommate's things, she was only worried about her own.

She stretched out on her bed, belly down, and pulled out her reading glasses and a copy of Dracula. The book was hard to read for her, it wasn't written like a book, more like a series of letters from one character to another. Eliza had a hard time following it and this was her second attempt at getting through it. The daylight waned and night descended, Brook took out her earphones and laid her textbook on the table beside her bed, then curled up beneath the bed covers. Eliza adjusted her lamp so that less light would fall on her sleeping roommate.

The next couple of days were 'exciting', Eliza kept getting handed fliers about a rally that was this coming weekend. The rally was intended to get students interested in the up-coming school year and excited about classes. The flier indicated that there would be handouts at the rally letting students know of games for the season as well as various activities the school set up to keep students occupied while they weren't doing homework and where students could go if they started having trouble with certain classes. It also offered free soda, pizza, and hot dogs.

Eliza, not really being an out-going person, didn't really have an interest in going, but she had promised her mother that she would at least try to be sociable and this seemed like a good way to do it. She went through the rest of the week throwing away additional fliers, having one already in her satchel. At last it was Friday. The rally was scheduled for six o-clock PM on Saturday in one of the recreational fields in the middle of campus. Eliza tried not to think about it, she didn't want to get started on social phobia before she was even in the social situation.

It had been an exhausting week for Angel between shopping, studying, and generally trying to get his bearings straight, but it was finally Friday night and there was nothing major to worry about for the next week’s classes. The robust student had been in the middle of a series of vigorous yoga positions when the sound of a quick, harsh rapping came upon his door, and not wanting to lose too much heat he continued with one more series starting from plank position, down to a pushup, breathing into an upward facing dog, and finally rolling back onto his heels into a downward facing dog before jumping his feet forwards and rising up to face the door.

“One second please,” called out Angel, hoping whoever it was did not want to bother him for very long. After opening the door he was faced with a somewhat smaller man with large spectacles decorating a plump face.

“Yes uhm… Angel?” The man had Anglicized the name by pronouncing the ‘G’ instead of making the ‘H’ sound, which always served to aggravate Angel through its seeming lack of courtesy. “You haven’t answered the door all week. All students are required to answer the door when a student assembly member knocks. Why haven’t you answered? I can have you punished you know!” The little rotund man sounded quite aggravated himself as his chin bobbed up and down while his jowls flapped about comically.

“I have been busy this week. This is the first day I have been around at this time, but I am sorry and will try better next time.” He had always disliked when a person felt they needed to act harshly to feel happy, but in these situations it always seemed best to act complacently while they threatened you and pointed fingers. “May I ask what has been so important? I have not broken any rules have I?”

“Well…uhm no, but you need to be more careful in case of next time! There is a student assembly tomorrow at six o’clock to help the students better orientate themselves for the school year. Here’s the information.” The little man had seemed rather flabbergasted by Angel’s seeming acquiescence to his authority, but he seemed to regain some form of composure by the time he handed Angel the flyer promoting the assembly.

After the little man departed Angel closed the door and examined the piece of paper he was just handed. In truth he had known about the assembly and been handed several of these flyers by other students, but he had not wanted to make to little man feel bad about his continued efforts that were all for naught. No matter the bother he had just lost enough momentum from his exercise and been distracted enough to give a once over of the lonely room. Apparently no other student had been assigned to this room, and even though he enjoyed the peacefulness things tended to get a little boring.

Not wanting to spend yet another night alone the solitary student sat down quietly to try and think about what there was to do in this town. Of course it was a college town so there were bars and night clubs in the plenty to attend, but he had also noticed several cinemas and theatres that had several tentatively exciting possibilities. Unfortunately Angel always had a difficult time with crowds, social anxiety had been a problem for years, and he always felt overly awkward about attending a movie or play alone. Fortunately there was always a last resort, and reaching for his phone Angel decided best to stick with his gut.

After several rings a more than familiar voice answered the call, “Bueno?”

“Como estas jefito? Es me su hijo, Angel. Si eres tomando con los otros ahora hoy o qué?” How are you doing father. It is me, your son Angel. Are you drinking with the others today or what?

“Oh Angelito! Estoy cansado, pero si nosotros amos tomando hoy. Si eres aviene para el cuadro?” Oh Angel! I am tired, but yes we are drinking today. Are you coming to the room?

“Si jefito. Yo no tengo mucha tarea para la semana próxima y quiero toma una cerveza con compadres.” Yes dad. I do not have much work for next week and I want to drink a beer with some friends.

“No tenemos problemas se te vas par aquí. Adiós.” We don’t have any problems if you come here. Goodbye.

Without much hesitation Angel hung up the phone and quickly hopped into the shower to wash the sweat off. It was not more than a quick rinse before he jumped out again and quickly tossed on a set of clothes while grabbing his keys and wallet. Not even glancing back at the door Angel expediently headed down the hallway and proceeded outside into the night, and having stopped after exiting the large double doors he took a breath and looked around the still bustling campus grounds. It may not be the best night, but it won’t be the worst.

The next day, Saturday, Eliza had not anticipated such a long stressful week and by the time she woke up it was 1:00 in the afternoon. Her roommate was already gone, her bed made nicely and everything put away. Eliza went down to the small food court in her dorm building, still wearing her soft red-and-black plaid pajama pants and a random t-shirt, she was also wearing Pikachu slippers.
She got her food to go and returned to her room, ate her lunch/breakfast and brushed her teeth. She fiddled part of the day away before finally getting dressed in a black and grey short sleeved zebra-striped dress that reached her knees in front and ankles in back. She put on a pair of boots that went halfway up her calves and tied the strand of hair at her back with a black flower that had a white centre. Grabbing her Death Note satchel she was on her way.
She wandered the campus for a while before sitting down on the grass next to the sidewalk and opening her satchel. She pulled out her cellular phone in case anyone tried to contact her, and a sketch-pad and number 2 pencil and proceeded to sketch the scenery in front of her. At 4:30 she stopped and inspected her handiwork and the area around her.
She had drawn the building across the street, an older-looking building with colourful flowers planted at its base, white-flowered bushes on either side of each entrance, and a few trees in the yard area. She had also quickly sketched a few interesting-looking people who had been walking down the sidewalk. One person wearing a white dress and long, colourful scarf, one in an electric wheelchair with a chocolate lab working dog, a male-and-female couple who both had long dreadlocks, and a man in a suit.

Re: Miskatonic University

Man, I saw your header for this got all super excited made a character submitted it .... then realized it was two years old ... sad face I want in on this vig!

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Yeah, that sucks, this was fun.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

I think this is dead, too many people have just vanished...

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

I think we need rockker to post. I'm going to pm him and then after I'll see about posting.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Oh snap what in the hell did I miss?!?!?!?

P.S.
....Oh that was just the format change...Almost thought this thing had started rolling like a freight train and I missed the action.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

I'm back for now and I posted, this is going to be fun!!!

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Okay thanks, I think we all like the pace as we all have certain commitments and the post we write tend to be worth the wait. Thanks for telling us Lirrin.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Anyone like how I make that announcement and then fall off? Sorry but my internet has been out so I will see what is going on and how I might further the plot. I apologise again for taking so much time, I think I'm going to start believing in Karma, hehe.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

I'm still here. I'm been swamped with RL and RP's. And I'm now having a bit of uninspired writers block. All my posts are currently lacking and boring so I'm trying to find my creativity again to post, plus school starts here tomorrow and I'm getting kids organised etc here so we're a little bit hectic.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

You all can still count me in and the slow pace is perfect for me with this slam-fest of a semester that just started up.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Jack still in this still and Crim will post when she can. I knew this wouldn't go break neck speeds.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

It seems to be just the three of us so I guess it's my turn to post and make it Saturday so the plot may continue. Unfortunately I am keeping guests waiting by checking on this so I can't post now. I will now go and entertain them so my sister no longer has to, but I will try extremely hard to be on tomorrow evening to post. Hopefully you other two haven't fallen off, hehe. :)

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Lirrin seems to be willing. Sorry this is moving so slow. I expected this to move at this sorta pace. Feel free to post Crim.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Have you decided who is gunna be the victim? Or should I just get up a post in reply to yours, Rulke?

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Alright sorry for the inactivity, but I won't be able to post until tomorrow afternoon/evening. Until then...

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

A rally nice idea, I think that's best way to do it. As the police want bum murders to end.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

May I ask how the two end up in the same vicinity? Understandably the male will just be passing by and chance a glance, but so far most of us have been rather aloof from each other setting-wise. Maybe if there was some kind of rally being held for the students? Or even a conference the police might be having to school hold so that they can caution the students from walking the streets after curfew? It just seems a chance that we could all run into each other at one point or another and gives the characters some loose affiliation within the story. It's just an idea on my part, but if anyone has a better idea I would be glad to hear it.

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

Essentially tonight in roleplay time we need one of the girls to be attacked, but to make it more powerful one of the guys needs to see her and assume it was rape. The girl ends up in shock thus guy assumes it rape and tries to work out who it is. So who want to end up in speechless shock or comatose?

Re: [OOC] Miskatonic University

I'd be okay if it's my character to so up to you, Rulke.
