Introduction

Image

Smooth white clouds linger on blue skies…

The grassy plains shift and sway at the soft wind's touch…

The Aptonoth graze, and the Velociprey so stalk and slay them, while the mighty king of the skies, Rathalos, encroaches the peace to claim his meal. Everything hunts again. And all the while, the regions of the planet move along, constant and steady. Minegarde… Schrade… all the same, all the time.

As the swift and deadly Lagiacrus continues to rule his underwater kingdom, so do the Teostra and Lunastra continue to lord over their blazing empire in the volcano. The Nargacuga’s fierce, gleaming eyes fly through the Great Forest, a lone lightning bolt over the tundra signals Kirin's arrival, and the colossal Jhen Mohran consumes the desert dwellers that dare to stand above him… quite too literally. The Chameleos vanishes into the swamp’s thickest fog, and the world eater, Deviljho continues to roam and dominate all in its path. And above them all… the dreaded Fatalis watches, from the highest peak, all of the chaos spread before him.

In this world, monsters reign supreme. It is a pillar with the greatest, most powerful beasts situated at the top, with crowds of smaller, savory creatures flocking to them en masse.

And, like always, man intrudes on this colossal chaos; and to it they bring a sense of rotary peace. In this world, just like many others, violence is the nature that keeps it moving. And the men and women who dedicate their lives to the observation, interference, and prosperity of these ravaged lands are known simply as…

Monster Hunters

Beasts fly above them, crowd around them, and roar, yet they do not flinch. They conquer their prey, they claim their prizes and bare their trophies. Some are ferocious, and some are calm, Some are big, and some are small, no two hunters are remotely alike, but they all separate themselves from the average with boundless courage and fortitude. Hunters are known far and wide as skilled woodsmen, excellent warriors, and mankinds most reliable barrier from this chaotic world of monsters.

And so… what kind of hunter will you be???

Our Hunters
Childhood Dream
You were born and humbly raised in rural Pokke village, situated in the harsh tundra of the northern regions and were blessed with a rather peaceful childhood thanks to the efforts of the village's skilled Hunter. The Hunter came to the village by request of the guild due to the dangers of the Tundra, and his hunting there not only protected Pokke, but brought rare goods for trade into the village. He quickly earned the villages respect and helped to inspire Pokke's younger generation.... You, to become Hunters and help others where you are needed. You and your friends decided to take the first leap together and kick start your careers as Monster Hunters in Pokke.

Starting Over
You are part of a veteran team of guild employed Hunters operating out of Loc Lac City, you've seen alot in your many hunts, but you still have alot to learn. The guild knows this, other hunters know it, but your team seems to be oblivious to the fact. The guild had been aware of your arrogance for a while, but refused to speak up until your last incident. Your team was sent out to track and kill a Rathalos, and by the description this one was particularly nasty. Still, nothing too hard for your team, you quickly tracked him down and gave him a hellish thrashing. Everything was going your way right up until the last blow was ready to be taken. The worst case scenario came to reality when Deviljho entered the fray, his giant maw opened wide for a blood-curdling roar before he gave furious chase. His powerful jaws snapped again and again and the earth shook as his powerful legs sprinted your way, even killing the Rathalos in it's struggle to run you down. You were scared, no denying it now, but you also saw an chance to skyrocket your name as a hunter by bringing it down. Almost as if you all were of one mind, the team turned to face the beast and raised their weapons, one of them even landed a blow to the Jho's face, slashing straight into his eye, but he didnt stop. The Deviljho quickly switched its footing for a hipcheck and plowed straight through your team leaving you unconcious and wounded. Luckily for you he was just hungry, he had no plans for a follow-up. Leaving your limp body for the bigger meal, the corpse of the Rathalos. You woke shortly to find the guilds base camp ravaged and completely torn apart, apparently the beast had found the camp before he happened upon your battle. When you returned to the guild broken, bleeding, and empty handed, they had no consoling words nor any empathy, instead the guildmaster furioulsy stripped you of your rank and transferred you to far off Pokke village as punishment. Now headed out to start your life again, you look down to your weapon and thank the gods they didn't take it too.

Welcome to the Monster Hunter Roleplay! Since you may have questions, I'll just get right to what's happening.

Setting

Which town is this taking place in? The majority of happenings in this RP will center around Pokke Village. We will of course be visiting other areas and villages throughout the roleplay but for now it'll be just Pokke and the Tundra region.

How will the NPCs work? I will be in charge of the Non Player Characters in this RP. I'll trust you guys to take care of any shopping, unless it gets out of hand, in which case I'll take charge. Quests and random events will also be taken care of by me. That's not to say you have to wait for me, I want the cast to stick together throughout the roleplay but should you want to venture out and take on a small monster then have at it.

Characters

There will only be room for two teams of four, meaning eight spots that may or may not fill quickly. I WILL be accepting reservations but I will only be accepting submissions that I feel have had a decent amount of thought put into them, so by all means take your time... everyone will have equal chance for a spot.

Oh and if im going to go out of my way to write up an outline, please do feel free to use it folks :)

Nestled in the far north, hidden by the mountains and untouched by time, sits proud Pokke Village. A small settlement of poor miners and unlucky farmers, life here being completely centered around what nature has to offer them, but the Tundra is harsh, and rarely gives her treasures up easily. Mining the Tundra has always been dangerous work and many are reluctant to take the risk, the cold winds and sub-zero temperatures are enough to do the strongest men in, but they fear the beasts that roam their wilderness. Khezu, Giadrome, Kirin, Baggi, Gigginox, Barioth, and more stalk the mountains in search of their next meal, which is far too often the fate of the village's miners. The monsters of the snowy peaks are far to much for the average folk to deal with, Hunters traditionally stalk and slay these beasts for their living, but Pokke has been without the support of skilled hunters for a few years now, and because of this the towns livelihood has been effected.

The town itself is very small by any standard, possibly the smallest in Minegarde, if not for Moga in the south. Two intersecting roads make up the villages layout, one leading out west to Pokke farm, and the other north, leading up the mountains. Along the two paths are small homes, simple in structure and appearance, but sturdy enough to handle the climate for the long term, a tavern sits by the northern exit of Pokke where the town gathers each eve to dine together, and afterwards drink until the worries of daily life slither away. Lastly, a few ware stands and a smithy sit next to the tavern, selling cheap goods and pick axes mostly, but the town had once employed Hunters, and were equipped to make weapons and armor should they be lucky enough to find another group of Hunters.

Situated on a tree stump in front of the tavern sits the elder of the village, a short pale man dressed in an old fur gown, his wrinkled face suggesting wisdom that one can only obtain from time. The other villagers flock to him, for guidance, advice, leadership, or his kind words in times of despair, this one man having been the primary pillar of support for the whole of Pokke for as long as anyone could remember. For now though, he remains on his stump, hands laid flat in his lap and a gentle smile prepared for those he was waiting for.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The cold wind ran its icy fingers through streaks of blonde and kissed a pale nose turned red by the winters chill, rings and trinkets dangling from plated mail jingled softly at every step and armor crafted of bone and tooth reflected the moons light back out into the snowy wastes. The thick drift of snowfall carried by the wind blanketed vision and made things far off hazy and obscure, still, a man dressed in white confidently waded through the haze for the torchlight of a village not far away, Pokke, if he remembered correctly. A grin of satisfaction crossed his lips at the sight, his sense of direction hadn't failed him, and he was a little tired of staring at fields of blank whiteness. His pace quickened, eager for a tall ale and a filling meal to cease his growling belly, turning back to his dark haired companion he called out over the wind's howl.

"The Village is right up ahead, lets pick it up a little!"

The storm calmed as they came close and the setting of Pokke became a bit clearer, the men and women of the village were still out and working, possibly finishing the chores and labors of the day before settling in. Marrik saw mothers and children washing clothing, men chopping wood for their stoves, farmers tending to livestock, everything moving along as it would normally. Almost normal, as the people began to notice the two armed strangers strolling through their home, they stopped and stared. They may not have known who he was, but it wasn't hard to figure out 'what' he was, no soldier carries a blade as large as his was, and the strange armor gave him the same appearance of the Barioth he had crafted it from. He wasn't here to impress any onlookers however, his objective was the village elder, seated quietly on his usual perch awaiting the two with humble patience.

As they approached, they were greeted by a warm smile and and outstretched hand, which Marrik gladly shook, with a smile of his own for the man.

"We're--" Is about all that could leave the hunters lips before being interrupted.

"You're the hunters from the city. Yes I know, we may be a bit out of the way up here, but we Do get news here from time to time." He paused briefly to stand as he spoke to the pair. He was curiously short, even for an old man, standing just at Marrik's waist. "Your Guild sent me a message that informed us of your arrival, I do hope the trek wasn't a rough one." Stepping past the two, he looked down the road they had just come from. "Welcome, this is Pokke Village, let me apologize in advance for we don't have much here compared to what Loc Lac had to offer you, but these are good people who will help you as much as they possibly can. Give me a moment to gather myself and I'll show you around."

Kalo stood behind her house where she normally trained. The chill air of Pokke village brushed against her face, her skin stung by the cold. Her breath was clearly visible, coming in slowly and controlled. Her massive weapon was held menacingly in her hands, her foe a large tree stump with the bark completely gone on one side. She rushed the battered stump and swung her axe slashing with incredible might, side to side over and over her attack relentless and unforgiving. she jumped back away from her training partner and changed the form of her weapon, in her grip was now a large blade no less threatening than her axe. Again she began attacking her moves changed she thrust and slashed and used her sword to splinter the log apart bit by bit. She let out a loud bloodthirsty roar and thrust her blade deep into the tree and then used the built up energy from her attacks to overload her weapon. The tree shattered into a million pieces leaving behind only remnants of the roots that held the log to the ground.

"Well then." she chuckled, "Looks like that's all the training I'm getting in today." She held her axe out directly in front of her and let the blade shift, once it was compact she gracefully sheathed her weapon on her back. She stretched as she let out a big yawn. She's been pushing herself too much again, she knew she had to find the right amount of training otherwise she would be too tired when a hunt came up. A grumble in her stomach alerted her that it was time to eat. She had tendencies to skip meals while training sometimes, and although she knew better she gave in to a few more minutes of training than a healthy meal now and then.

She sauntered back into her home and laid her axe against the wall near her front door. Her neck and back relieved of the weight she stepped through her front door and out onto the village.

Long, dark locks swirled in the winter wind as Joo-Eun and her partner closed the distance of the village. She shivered slightly as the cold wind cut through her. Steel armor was never very thick to begin with and it didn't help that the bottom half was unnecessarily short. "The Village is right up ahead, lets pick it up a little!" she heard over the howl of the wind. She was visibly excited to be back home. It had been years since she left and she hoped her siblings were doing well. Perhaps she would visit them if she had time.

The wind calmed as they entered the little village. She saw many people she knew, and many new faces. She waved to everyone in turn and gave a friendly smile. She wasn't acting like a returning hero, merely being kind as they strolled to the village elder.

As they came to a stop before the village elder, she outstretched her hand in greeting and gave a smile. "It is good to see you again elder." she said as she bowed. Her thoughts drifted as the village elder spoke to the warmth of the tavern and the good food. She could not wait to get warm, and perhaps take a well-deserved nap after their long trek from Loc Lac.

Inside the tavern, drinks were being passed around, not yet having noticed the arrival of the two Hunters. A crowd of laughing, drinking young men were crowded around a table, dressed in mafumofo-hide clothing with bows and short spears laid around. They weren't Hunters, not with a capital H, but they had just returned from a hunt of their own. In the back of the tavern (which served as both a meeting place and a storage for food at times) the fresh remains of three wild popo had been stored and dried- It had been a big one, almost a bull.

"Drink up! They're on me, fellas!" The center of attention was the one man who wore, instead of the warm wooly fur of an anteka, a full suit of scalemail- Literal scalemail, armor made of the blue-black scales of a giaprey. It was obviously not the product of his hands, which were far too large and clumsy to possibly fashion it, but he wore it with pride. An anteka horn had been fashioned into a cup and filled with frothing alcohol, and he took generous swigs from it. "We've earned it today!"

Hari Cal, nephew of the retired Hunter Hari Marcone, leaned back, his arm propped up on the edge of his shield. His weapon, folded into its three-part form, lay on the bench next to him, emptied of shells and cleaned off after the hunt. He felt proud of it, ready for anything. And if the rumors were true, and Hunters really were finally coming to Pokke for real... Hey, who knew? Maybe he might be able to follow in his old uncle's footsteps and join the Guild. Hari Cal could only hope he would be up to snuff when the time came.

"Ahh Joo-Eun! It is a pleasant surprise to see you again, you've grown so much that I hardly recognized you." The elderly mans face brightened at the return of one the villages fledglings, now successful and grown. "Had I known the guild was sending you back to us I would have spent a little more time organizing your living arrangements." The Elder exhaled warm breath into his hands and rubbed them together quickly. "Not much has changed since you left, everything is still where it once was, the tavern, the hearth, the farm, all still here, though time has not been kind."

Marrik listened quietly to the old man until his back was turned, then gently ribbed Joo-Eun.

"Why didn't you tell me you were from Pokke?" He whispered quietly, before the elder turned his attention back to them.

"On the corner just before the farm there is a small cabin we have set up to accommodate your stay here in Pokke, There are enough bedrooms for the two of you and any others the guild may send to sleep comfortably, and our carpenters have built a few weapon racks, and chests for storage." Turning back to Marrik and Joo-Eun, he produced a key from his wide sleeve and handed it to the dark haired female. "Surely you won't mind if the lady holds on to the key?"

"No not at all." His stomach let out a vicious growl just after he spoke. Marrik's face reddened, it was a little embarrassing but his hunger was getting the best of him at this point.

"Ha ha ha, you hunters fight like monsters, you must eat like monsters too huh? The Tavern is right behind you, I wont hold you here any longer, you can get a nice hot meal inside just watch yourself, Hari Cal and the others brought in a large Popo this evening, no doubt they'll be celebrating about it."

He smiled and gave the elder a gracious bow. "Thank you sir, and your village for they're hospitality." Turning to Joo-Eun, he gave a pat on the shoulder. "I'll hold a seat for ya."

Pushing his way through the large wooden doors, he was greeted by the tavern's warmth and the savory scent of cooked Popo. The room was bright, Two long tables stretched across the large room with platters of various dishes sitting atop them, and drunken rowdiness spread through the whole room. These must have been the small game hunters that kept the town healthy and fed, a respectable line of work, especially when one's belly is empty.

After taking a quick scan of the room he noticed everyone was dressed in Anteka pelt except for one man suited in the scales of a Giaprey, this must have been Hari Cal, since this was the only name the elder though was important enough to mention. Taking the empty seat beside him, careful not to bump his Gunlance by mistake, he grabbed himself a plate and quickly filled it with as much food as he could fit.

"Figured I'd thank the man filling my empty gullet directly." Marrik said gratefully as he poured himself a frothy mug of ale. He unbuttoned the clasp holding his blade to his back and gently sat it on the ground behind him, then removed his helmet, as he found it disrespectful to speak with his face covered. Lifting his now full mug, he took a hearty swig and gently tapped it against Hari Cal's, and faced him as to introduce himself. "I'm Marrik Sul, from Loc Lac, I'm here with my partner to help hunt for Pokke village."

”Thwong!”

A small, iron bolt pierced the heart Or, where the heart would be located, if it had one. of a wooden dummy. The sheer force of the impact nearly breaking the immature doll. “Bullseye!” A high-pitched, female voice, cheerfully announced. The young woman approached the partially demolished, wooden dummy, removing the iron bolt that had nestled itself in the doll. With a faint, disappointed expression glued on her face, the woman dumped the used, iron bolt back to its respective quiver. (A small pocket on Cassandra's belt.) Which was rare, a Marksmanwoman, rarely re-uses old bolts. But, when you lack sufficient money...

Just as the female was about to continue her training, a stomach growling signalled the end. “Hehe... I could do for some food.” She told herself, a wide grin appearing on her face. “Maayyybe.~” Though the young woman did not finish her sentence. She only giggled mischievously at her own thoughts. The next destination, the Tavern. They would be able to satisfy the woman's hunger. She raised her Bowgun, softly smiling at the wooden construction. Although it wasn't much, it served the Marks-woman well. She had even carved her own name on the loop of the weapon. 'Cassandra Gorham' it said. “Hey, sweetie...!~ We are going to get ourselves something to eat.” With an even wider smile, the female clipped her weapon onto its holster, that was strapped on the woman's back.

Just as Cassandra neared the Tavern. Two, unknown To her. figures passed through the heavy, wooden door. New guests...? The young woman thought, smirking faintly as she waited for the door the close. Waiting a few seconds, the female made her entrance. Pushing open the wooden door, revealing a large, brightly lit room. There were, voices, a lot of them in fact. It seemed that the local hunters had returned from their hunt. Had they caught something? Eavesdropping on some chitter-chatter, Cassandra noted that they had caught a Popo. An amazing feat For those small-fry hunters. indeed.

Soon, Cassandra had adjusted to the warmth inside the Tavern. And, like anyone else would, the woman had pulled the hood of her cloak (Both of them.) from her head. Revealing her long, blood-red hair that was kept in two, separate, knotted tails. And with a deep sigh, Cassandra pulled her cloaks on her back as well, revealing her simple, cloth, clothing. After another moment of listening in to some of the conversations that were going on, the young woman scanned the Tavern with her moss-green eyes. Trying to catch a sight of the duo she had seen outside the Tavern.

To her surprise, the large, armoured figure of the duo was easily spotted. He had taken a seat among the group that had been celebrating their hunt. Wavy, blond hair, somehow perfectly matching his icy, green eyes. From the looks of it, Armour and weapon-wise. the male appeared wealthy. Perhaps wealthy enough to carry a significant amount of gold with him? Though, Cassandra wouldn't want to do this head-on. Not only was the Tavern crowded with people. But the man didn't appear to be someone you just steal from with ease. The young woman just continued observing the scene. Gently throwing her left side against one of the thick, wooden pillars that supported the Tavern's roof.

Hari Cal grinned. "Hey, yeah, go ahead and eat, we've got plenty!" He gladly clacked his glass against Marrik's and took a swig. "So you're from Loc Lac, eh? That's way out in the desert, right? Can't imagine living there, surrounded by sand and never getting a cloud to make the heat-" He paused. Something that Marrik had said was tickling the back of his brain. Help in the hunts? Partner?

True to form and alcohol, Hari Cal missed the obvious and went straight for the unlikely. Foreign soldiers being called in to help out with the village's defense? There hadn't even been a Giaprey incursion for months, not since they'd burned out the nearest nests. "Hey, whattaya mean, help with the hunts? We don't need help! My boys and I can handle anything that comes down out of those mountains, believe you me!" He thumped his chest. The other men looked on, a few of them obviously having jumped to the correct conclusion and looking suitably mortified and/or shocked. "Two sand rats ain't gonna change anything, because there's nothing we're having trouble with. Don't underestimate a mountain man born and raised!"

"Sand rats?!" Marrik's expression was as calm as still waters, but under his skin, his blood was boiling. He stood to face the man with a furious look in his eyes, fists clenched and prepared for violence. "Did I say help? I meant to say I'm here to protect this village because you can't. You don't even qualify as a snack for the beasts that live on this mountain, that's why the guild sent me here." Marrik stepped even closer, bringing his face just inches from the other man. The rest of the tavern was silent, but at this point Marrik was roaring. "Just how ignorant are you mountain man? You thought I was here for your damned Popo and your tiny lizards?"

He gave the man a violent shove and retrieved his equipment, sliding his helmet back over his head, and replacing his sword on his back. Marrik then turned headed for the door, but as he stepped over his newly made enemy, he left him with a swift kick to the ribs and a warning.

"You ever call me a sand rat again.... I'll gut you like the swine you are." Just as quickly as he had entered, he was gone, Marrik had hardly eaten anything before trouble started, but his appetite was completely ruined at this point. The man hadn't been in the village a whole night yet, and it already left a bad taste in his mouth. As the doors opened, Marrik stepped back out into the snow and wind, walking briskly down the dirt path to the house where he would be staying. The people he had seen out working earlier were now gone, the late nights chill driving them all indoors. The hunter let out a sigh of relief as he took the last few steps to the door, the village elder was right, the house was nothing special but it looked spacious and it was far enough away from that buffoon in the tavern. Marrik grabbed the knob and turned it, but the door didn't open, and after two or three more failed attempts it hit him. "Shit!"

Joo-Eun had the keys.

Joo-Eun smiled gently as the elder spoke to her. She didn't care that the living arrangements wouldn't be extravagant. She would just be happy to have a place to lay her head at night. She felt a poke in her rib and looked to see Marrik looking at her. "Why didn't you tell me you were from Pokke?" he whispered with warm breath in her ear. "I didn't think it was that important." she whispered back. She straightened as the elder turned his attention back to them. She listened as he told them about their accommodations and handed her the key.She gladly took it from him and put it on her pocket. She smirked a little as she heard Marrik's stomach growl. He's always hungry. she thought with a chuckle.

Upon hearing that Hari Cal had been the one to bring in dinner she laughed. "I knew he'd be a Hunter one day. He seemed the type." She smiled as Marrik patted her shoulder saying that he would hold a seat for her. She gave her thanks to the elder and bowed again before she followed Marrik into the tavern. The food smelled delicious and she was starving. She took a seat next to Marrik and unloaded her bow and quiver from her back. It was a relief to have the weight of her weapon and pack off of her shoulders and she stretched her muscles. She began to fill a plate with Popo meat as Marrik spoke to Hari.

She looked up to see a girl with long red pigtails looking their way. She looked vaguely familiar, but couldn't place her name. Katherine, Kari, Cassie. Something like that. She remembered the girl had a penchant for stealing things and decided to keep on eye on her.

She looked over at Hari's way as he boasted that she and Marrik weren't needed. "You know, you were always boastful, even as a boy." she said to him down the table. She felt she had said her piece and took a large bite of the Popo meat.

Before she knew it, Marrik was in a rage. He had said hurtful things to him in retaliation for Hari's 'sand rats' remark. She knew he would still be fuming as his temper lasted. She watched as he stormed out the tavern. She hated making a scene, but she abruptly found herself in the middle of one. "I'm sorry for his temper, " she said to the tavern as a whole, "we have had a long journey and his patience is thin." She knelt down to Hari and whispered in his ear. "You would do well to respect your elders boy. We did not travel all this way just to be insulted by the likes of you." She picked herself up from the floor and grabbed her things. She took a plate of Popo meat as well in case Marrik would be hungry later.

She stepped out of the tavern into the chilly night air. She saw Marrik's shape ahead of her and followed him to the house that was set up for them. She arrived as he tried to open the door forcefully. She pushed him aside gently and asked him to hold the plate of meat as she opened the door. The door swung open with a creak. She set about lighting some candles around the room for some light. She saw Marrik still in the doorway and spoke gently. "It will get cold if the the door is left open. Please come in." She knew he was probably still fuming so she would give him time to calm down. She went into a bedroom and put her things away in their designated places and went back to check on Marrik.

"Just how ignorant are you mountain man? You thought I was here for your damned Popo and your tiny lizards?"

Hari Cal gritted his teeth. "What the hell's that supposed to mean? Got something to say to my face, you-" The man's shove sent him sprawling, knocking over the wooden table. Plates and food scattered everywhere, followed by surprised villagers who jumped back in shock. Hari Cal rolled over, eyes narrowing as he snarled, "What was that for, you- Argh!" The Hunter's foot jammed into his ribs, driving the breath out of the amateur. He lay, choking and coughing, and listened to the foreigner berate him. He didn't reply- couldn't, not with the scale armor having been uncomfortably wedged up against his windpipe, and didn't move until the man had gone. He heard Joo-Eun's remark, and said nothing. What could he have said to these arrogant outlanders?

Once Marrik and Joo-Eun had left, Hari Cal picked himself up. One of the other men stepped forward and started to say something, but he was waved aside.

The hell did I even do? And the woman... Who the hell was she? Hari Cal looked at the place he'd been kicked. The scales had been dented, actually dented, just by this random guy's kick. Who were they both?

"Who the hell was that?" he asked, shouting over the hubbub of shocked voices. "Anyone know who the hell he was? Because I'm not going to take that laying down, no matter who he thinks he is!" He bent down and picked up his folded up gunlance from where it had fallen, slinging it over his back and strapping the shield over his arm. Condescending bastards... Hari Cal wasn't one to back down, even against people as obviously experienced as they were. Ignoring the shouts of his fellows, he marched towards the tavern entrance, still short of breath.

"No one insults me or my village and gets away with it," he muttered.

Marrik stood in the doorway as Joo-Eun prepared the house for their stay, he wanted to apologize, but decided to wait until his anger subsided. He could still hear commotion up the road, not the greatest first impression he could have left, but he wouldn't be disrespected by those he was sent to help. The large door of the tavern slammed and the man from before, Hari Cal, stepped out into the open, walking down the path with a purpose.

"It will get cold if the door is left open. Please come in." Joo-Eun was ready to settle in, but the events of the night were just beginning it seemed. Once she had left for the bedroom he closed the door and started towards the man. The happenings in the tavern were little more than warning shot, Marrik was far beyond the point of holding back now, and he certainly wasn't above killing a man who can't take a hint.

The wind whipped his long hair as he walked, and the snow gave a light crunch under each brisk step. The sword on his back, The Crimson Cross, a blood red double edged sword, almost as tall as its owner, made a sickening metallic sound as it was unsheathed. The electricity of the Golden Gigginox he had the sword forged from caused the hair on his forearms to stand up, and small sparks jumping up and down the center lit up Marrik's face, making his furious visage visible as if it were daytime. It was an evil weapon made from a vile creature, expertly crafted for violence of any kind, without prejudice.

Marrik's pace slowed to a stop, patrons of the tavern eased outside for a view of the commotion, but so far none were brave enough to step between the two. Placing the sword firmly in front of himself, the hunter took a strong stance and waited for his target to ready himself. The seriousness in his eyes was the same as it would have been if he were hunting prey, and in his mind the situation was hardly different, this man was obviously as dimwitted as the Giaprey he wore for armor.

Kalo walked to wards the pub expecting the hunters to have returned. Her expectations did not meet reality. As she approached the establishment he could hear some slight commotion coming from inside. A man walked out, a few seconds passed and then Hari Cal burst out the doors. Before she knew it seemed like they were both about to fight. She was already upset with Hari Cal seeing as how she wasn't allowed to go with them on their hunts. Something about if she came along, there would be nothing left to bring back for food. She resented them for it, but she understood their reasons. She was meant for stronger more dangerous beasts than the ones they went after. Now here he was ready to take on some new Hunter she had never seen before. No one was getting into a fight today, not without her anyways. She walked up behind Hari Cal and cleared her throat, Kalo shouted as she watched the two hunters get ready to pounce on each other's throats.

"Hari Cal what in the hell are you doing? You really think you could take on pretty boy over here." She said punching him on his shoulder, "Honestly, what kind of self respecting hunter picks a fight with some one who is clearly out of his league? No offence Hari Cal you're good, but from the looks of that sword of his, he'll be picking you out of his teeth within seconds of you guys fighting." She walked towards Marrik and stood right in front of his face glaring at his surprisingly handsome face.

"You," She began holding her finger up to his face, "You're one of the new Hunter's coming in from the city. I heard you'd be coming in sometime soon. I bet you think you're so much better than us." This was Kalo's competitive side showing it's worst, she hated being outdone and feeling small. She spit on the ground and turned away. She walked up to one of the hunters, grabbed his weapon and stood next to her fellow villager Hari Cal.

"You know you can't beat this guy," She nudged him with her shoulder and winked. "At least not alone."

It was amusing, watching the two armoured men fight about something as trivial as a choice of words. Men were dimwitted like that, solve their problems through violence rather then common sense. Cassandra disliked it, no, despised unnecessary violence. Anger is better, directed at something that needs to be killed, Giaprey for example? Rather then fellow human beings. But, who was the woman to question such behaviour?

Just before the tension raised to a rather obvious level. Another person had entered the Tavern, a woman, older then Cassandra. Long black hair, and a face that clearly fitted some kind of motherly type. In fact, the woman looked, vaguely familiar. Was she a citizen of Pokke? Or has been, at least. Observing her more attentively, the young female simple smiled. Of course, it was little, old Josie! Cassandra had wondered where her greatest prank target had run off to. Who would've thought mother Theresa would've kicked herself up this high? The young woman wondered if Josie still remembered the red-haired thief. Probably not, Cassandra wasn't someone you wanted to remember, at least, not if you got to see more of her bad-side, rather then her good-side.

In the meantime, the argument between the two armoured men had reached a peak. And, they were now, clearly angered. Why is it that men always have to act like such, big, morons... Cassandra sighed softly, following the man in Giaprey armour when he too, decided to step outside. A perfectly filling, meal had to wait for now. This turn of events was far more interesting. Nothing ever really happened in Pokke anyway, so this was a nice distraction for the time being.

Cassandra watched from the sidelines, watching it all unfold as she had met up with the two men. Well, they seemed ready enough to cut each others head off, or at least do some serious, physical damage to one-another. That was, until yet, another figure approached the scene. A female, well, a barbaric female to be exact. Still, it took Cassandra a moment to realise it was Kalo. Thanks, man-lady! You are ruining the moment. Which meant, a perfect timing to step in and actively join the commotion. “Yeah, sure. Like they would listen to someone who likes violence, more then these two.~” Cassandra spoke in a frustrated, yet teasing tone. The young woman hadn't really seen it with her own, moss-green eyes. But knew Kalo was that violent woman who'd slay anything that crossed her path. Barbaric, she thought. Ladies don't join in on active violence. They are either graceful swords-woman. Or excellent archers. Not a large, muscled barbarian carrying around a huge weapon, that is twice their own size.

“And you two dimwitted knuckle-heads. Yes, you two!” The young woman pointed at the two armoured men with her left index finger. “Unless you are too stupid to think of it. Go fight wild animals, instead of each other. Sheesh!~” Cassandra sighed irritatedly, shaking her head while resting both her hands on either side of her hip.

Hari Cal stood in the road, watching Marrik. The man looked like a demon straight out of the landsbooks, and probably fought like one. But Hari Cal stood his ground, face pale but resolute. "We-" he began, planning an elaborate challenge of single combat that would have been said if Calo hadn't interrupted.

"Hari Cal what in the hell are you doing? You really think you could take on pretty boy over here." She said punching him on his shoulder, "Honestly, what kind of self respecting hunter picks a fight with some one who is clearly out of his league? No offence Hari Cal you're good, but from the looks of that sword of his, he'll be picking you out of his teeth within seconds of you guys fighting."

Hari Cal, contrary to popular belief, could in fact do the math. And he did it here, adding up what was said to get a horrifyingly obvious answer. Calo's next words clinched it, and his expression gradually changed from stubborn resolution to mortified realization.

Hunters! Actual Hunters! Here! And I insulted them. And now I'm about to fight them. He felt light-headed. This had gone from bad to worse. A defender of humanity who regularly fought monsters that could use Hari Cal's lance as a toothpick... And he thought he could beat them?

But Hari Cal wasn't going to back down, even knowing what he knew, and somewhere in the back of his mind a little voice whispered, not so godly now, are they? Men like you and me...

He straightened up. It might be hopeless, but he wasn't going to get others involved. "I appreciate the help, Calo. But this is my fight to win or lose." He looked Marrik in the eyes, and though his gaze wavered he was determined. "Look, I didn't know you were Hunters. But that doesn't change anything, does it? So-"

Then, for the second time today, he was interrupted mid-speech by a woman. Damn it, Cassandra. Couldn't you have at least waited until I was done? He clenched his fists. The only way this could be any worse would be if the elder joined in.

Joo-Eun walked into the common living area, but saw no Marrik in sight. Thinking he may have retired to his room, she went to his room. There was no Marrik there either. It was then that she heard a commotion outside. He didn't she thought to herself. She assumed that he may have gone back to fight Hari Cal. He was just that hot-tempered. She grabbed her bow and arrows and slammed the door open. She was not a happy person now. She just wanted to rest right now, not deal wiht his anger issues. She could see a crowd forming just ahead and briskly made her way there.

As she arrived, Marrik was obviously ready to fight as he sword lit up his face. She saw another, more barbaric woman beside Hari Cal. She remembered her being always that way though she couldn't recall her name. She was speaking urgently to Hari Cal about the two of them being able to take Marrik on together. She heard him speak up, attempting to apologize for his ignorance. It was then that the red haired girl spoke up telling them to fight wild animals instead of each other.

Marrik was still quite mad, so Joo-Eun attempted to calm him. She whispered urgently to him, "Come now, he wouldn't be a challenge, but the two of them together would not be as easy. We came her to fight monsters, not arrogant boys and what do you think the elder would say?" she huffed. "I do not plan to fight alongside you. I will not fight my own village to satisfy your need for vengeance over silly words." she was obviously livid at this point which is a feat in itself. She was not so easily angered.

"Look, I didn't know you were Hunters. But that doesn't change anything, does it? So-"

Marrik saw a change in Hari Cal's bravado, he was scared, he had finally discovered what he was getting himself into. This man didn't want to die, and Marrik did not wish to kill a man over words, nor did he he want to be feared, but the man didn't know how to back down it seemed. Deciding to try a different approach, he raised his sword high in a reverse grip and sank it deep into the frozen earth beside him. Placing his hands on either side of his helmet, he slowly lifted it from his head, causing his hair to fall gently over his face. The links that held his gauntlets together were tugged one at at time until the pieces loosened and were tossed to the side. Marrik wasn't one for brawling, but killing an idiot who had no idea what he was doing seemed like overreaction.

He had lost control for a short time, forgot who he was, and why he was here, but control was his once again.

Joo-Eun rushed over to him just as he had readied himself, pleading with him to calm down. What she didn't know, was Marrik had already cleared his anger, he wasn't going to take the man's life for vengeance, he wanted the man's respect. Maybe, Hari Cal was a good man, just with clouded judgement due to the the ale, Marrik didn't know, but he did know that he was a warrior, no matter how undisciplined. Marrik respected the village, it's people, and he had shown this man the same respect before all of this started.

It's time for you to earn it back.

He walked, calmly and slowly, unarmed but ready, he closed the distance between himself and this would-be hunter. Left hand clinched in a tight fist, the right relaxed and swaying gently as he walked, he had one last idea to end this without beating the man into the ground. Hari Cal, standing alone, head strong and foolish, Marrik pictured himself standing in his place, Ludroth armor in place of the Giaprey mail. This man before him, hardly out of his boyhood, reminded him of himself vaguely.

"Hari Cal." Marrik's voice was strong, but without a single hint of rage. "You do not want to do this, I see it in your eyes. You have proven your mettle just by standing your ground, anything more would be foolish and would prove nothing. I am willing to accept that your remarks in the tavern were poorly worded and unintentional if you accept it the same." He took a deep breath and exhaled, which was easily visible due to Pokke's chill. "But if you don't, then I'll make sure you learn from your mistakes." Marrik moved closer to the man and spoke softly so that only himself and Hari could hear. "In situations like these, men like you and I are forced to chose between dignity and honor, rarely are we given the option to take both and walk away unharmed, think before making a hasty decision. It is far wiser to make strong allies than it is to make powerful enemies."

Before the fight even started trying to calm Hari Cal down. It seemed like no one beside her was looking for a fight. Typical she left her emotions get the best of her, that was her biggest flaws. It was hard to turn down such a big learning opportunity, Marrik seemed like quite a skilled fighter and she could have learned a lot from fighting him. Although his self control showed just how much better he was at being a Hunter than her. She sighed and stepped away letting Marrik and Hari talk alone.
Kalo turned away and tried to calm down, her heart was pounding and blood still hot. It was similar to how she got before a hunt. She did her best to calm down the other hunter's had a point it would be better to start out on everyone's good side rather than picking fights right off the bat. Come to think of it, one of the new hunter's looked strangely familiar.

"Wait a minute, Joo-Eun? Is that you?" Kalo dropped the sword and regained a much more relaxed pose. She seemed to have forgotten about the fact she was just about to fight. She walked up slowly to her a big smile on her face. "Hey do you remember me? I was still too young to be a hunter back when you started but I always looked up to you! When you left the village I never though you'd come back?"
Kalo was a sucker for strong female role models, and when she was growing up Joo-Eun was one of the only ones in Pokke village.

"In situations like these, men like you and I are forced to chose between dignity and honor, rarely are we given the option to take both and walk away unharmed."

Hari Cal shut his eyes. He knew what this Hunter was doing. One last chance to back out with dignity, huh? Some might call that surrendering. And Hari Cal had a reputation for never giving up. Besides, he'd been insulted, and so had his village's courage. It wasn't like he could back out and expect this to go without comment. Marrik was an arrogant bastard. Who knew what he might say?

But at the same time... He had no doubt of his chances against a Hunter. Not only that, but this was pointless. No matter who won they'd both come off looking like fools.

Damn it. All I wanted to do this morning was get everything I had to done. Didn't expect any of this to show up. Hari Cal wasn't one to back down. He'd faced wyverns and dragons... In his stories, at least. He was the hero, the big man, the one who could be relied on to stand his ground.

But unbidden there rose a memory in his mind...

Something had happened deep underground, something that had scared the village into action. Twenty volunteers- amateur hunters, guards, civilians all- had stepped forward. The rites of sacrifice were being said- Prayers to the mountains for protection, guidance, strength... And if need be, the safe passage of their soul to the sky. Leading them was a retired Hunter, the lancer Hari Marcone.

Hari Cal had been a young child at the time, and didn't really understand what was happening, except that he wanted in on it. So he'd put a pot on his head and dressed in his thickest jacket and marched down the street. As it happened, that took him straight past his uncle, who saw this and stopped him.

"Cal," he said, for back then Hari Cal hadn't been so insistant on his name, "Cal, what are you doing? Where are you going?"

Cal waved his stick and washboard and replied, "To join the hunt!"

"No!" Cal had shrunk at the harshness of his guardian's voice, and the old man had calmed quickly. "No, you must stay here."

"But why?" he'd screamed. "Everyone else is going! Where are they going? Why can't I come?"

"Not everyone's going. Auntie isn't," Marcone had shushed him, gently resting a hand on the boy's shoulder. "You could die, Cal," he said, gently but bluntly.

"So can they! So... So could you!" Cal had stared up into his uncle's pitted, scarred face. "If you are... I can go too! I want to be a Hunter, and protect the village!"

"How are you going to protect the village if you're dead, then?" Marcone's words had pierced the boy's stubborn act, and left him without an answer. And the next morning, when they'd gone to investigate the site of the battle, andall they had found was blood and a collapsed cave... Hari Cal had been left alone with all the children, the only ones to protect the little village but for the occasional wandering Hunter.

And he'd devoted himself to becoming invulnerable, inside and out, so he'd never fail the village in death...

He made his decision. The gunlance was unslung from his back. Its three seperate sections clicked into place, and Hari Cal held it for a moment, silent. Then he dropped it to the snow at Marrik's feet. He hadn't expected it to sting like it did, giving up.

"Fine," he said, finally. "I take back what I said." He got down on his knees, his hands on his legs in a gesture of submission, head bowed and shoulders stiffened to keep from shaking with rage. "Forgive me, Hunter. I acted like a damn fool."

Marrik watched quietly as Hari Cal had submitted before him, it was more than he had asked for, and he could see it hurt the young warrior's pride. This moved Marrik, had the roles been reversed it would have been just as hard for him to do what Hari had done. Deciding not to let this be a moment of shame for the younger man, Marrik lowered himself to Hari's level, and with a grin he lifted the gunlance and laid it across his lap.

"I have always admired this particular weapon, my life was once saved by a great hunter, miles from my league... even as it stands today, he carried a Gunlance just as you do." Hari Cal's weapon was old, possibly older than Hari himself, the fact that it still worked showed the great care that was taken while it was forged. It was heavy, most of it being solid iron, not something he would want to be burdened with while hunting, but every hunter has their own affinity towards their style of weapon, and Hari would probably be far less clumsy with it than himself.

Allowing for a moment of brief silence before standing again, hefting the lance and allowing it to fold back into it's compact state. He took a quick look around, the villagers continued to watch the the two, and Joo-Eun stood by his sword and gear, he couldn't see her expression from where he was standing but he was certain she wasn't as disappointed with him as she had been before. She was tired before the whole thing started and his drama was keeping her from her bed. With the adrenaline gone, Marrik realized just how cold it was outside, his fingers were blue and his teeth began to chatter lightly.

"We've both acted like fools this eve, these people should be indoors, hell I should be indoors, I think I may be two shades from hypothermia at this point." Marrik wasn't sure if Hari would have taken his hand if he had extended it to help him up, so instead he looped his arm under Hari's and brought him to his feet. He handed the Gunlance back in a way that almost looked ceremonial, taking care to respect the weapon. "If you aren't too sore about this tomorrow, I would like to train with you and your lance." He turned to walk away but stopped himself, having one last thing on his mind, with his back still turned he spoke.

"Don't bow to me again, You'll be hunting in the big leagues soon, and that makes us equals as far as I'm concerned."

Leaving him with that to think about, Marrik departed for his things. As he was collecting them he looked to Joo-Eun, he couldn't quite bring himself to look her in the eye after he had made an ass of himself, but still spoke. "I'm sorry, this probably wasn't how you wanted your first visit home in years to turn out, I'll find a way to make it up to you." With his sword sheathed and armor collected, he silently left the scene for the house, disappearing behind the door.

Well, that was a surprising turn of events. Though, expected from someone with the title of; Hunter. Too bad there wasn't the least bit of weapon-clashing, it would've made things in Pokke a little bit more interesting. Not to mention more lively then usual. Anyway, in all that commotion. Wasn't everyone forgetting something? Or rather, forgetting someone? How dare they ignore Cassandra...! Just when I want a non-pickpocketing conversation, they ignore me. Figures...!~ Ack! As long as they weren't angry at her, all was well.

Anyway, the young woman had found some amusement from Cal, falling on his knees. It just proved how much of an idiot the man was. Even as a kid, he wanted to do to much, to soon. Ooohh... how much Cal hadn't changed. Still, it was funny how he acknowledged his foolishness. But Cassandra wasn't quite satisfied with such a response, even if it wasn't meant for her. “Don't you mean thick-headed fool, Cal?” Was all the young female said, before turning her attention to the other two, present at the scene. Kalo and Joo-Eun. Stepping a little bit closer to them, actively listening to their conversation.

Oh yeah, Cassandra had completely forgotten. There was always, someone, who had to praise the perfect lady in all of Pokke. Sheesh, it was as if nothing had changed at all. Nothing, maybe that was a good thing after all?

Joo-Eun was a bit taken aback as she was spoken to by the woman next to Hari Cal. "Oh, yes, It was Kalo wasn't it. You've grown up well. I'm glad to see it." she thought a moment about how to respond to her inquiry about her own absence. "Well, after Jin-ho, Baek-Jo, and Mae grew up enough to take care of themselves, I left. Hunting was my calling it seems and the Guild recruited me. I was sent to Loc Lac where I teamed up with Marrik over there. We were sent here to help out." she said pretty calmly despite her anger at Marrik.

She looked over towards Hari Cal and Marrik to see something of a reconcile. Marrik had knelt with Hari Cal and was speaking with him. She was glad to see that Marrik was behaving much more kindly to the young hunter. With this, her anger ebbed away and she gave him a small smile as he turned back to look at her. She watched as he helped Hari Cal off of his knees and asked if he could perhaps train with Hari Cal tomorrow.

As Marrik passed her, he said "I'm sorry, this probably wasn't how you wanted your first visit home in years to turn out, I'll find a way to make it up to you." She was a little surprised to say the least. Marrik was not always humble like this towards her. She gave Kalo a bow and apologized to Hari Cal for her words before. She could see the girl with red pigtails looking somewhat maliciously towards her. She could still not remember her name, but was taught growing up to be polite, so she gave her a small wave. She then turned to follow Marrik back to the small house and wondered the whole way there what he would to make it up to her.

Hari Cal stood up, his face stony. Then he took a deep breath and puffed it out, relaxing. "Alright. I'll prove to you then that the people of Pokke aren't so weak." He grinned, to show he wasn't trying to start the fight again, and turned to go. At Cassandra's insult he waved a hand lazily. "That's right, Cass, the thick-headedest." He'd begrudge her that insult- After all, her rant (accidently or not) had helped convince him to back down. "And if you'll let this thick-headed idiot go, I'll be fixing up that table. Wouldn't do to make the barkeep call my tab or anything." Taking one last glance at the two Hunters, he shrugged and vanished into the tavern. He had another mess to clean up.

I'm in, if you're doing it. Gunz, you dropped the ball.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

I think I may have a saving grace for you guys..

Tell you what, Since your GM hasn't returned I could make a Monster Hunter RP to fill the hole. I myself am a very active GM and would be happy to facilitate this group.

If I don't hear back from anyone in a day or so I will send out individual PM's to make sure all of you know of my offer.
Hell, Why not tonight.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

I guess, but then what? I'm trying to think of the big picture. If the GM does not return, all we can probably do is... well... hunt. (Even if that's the point, lol.) Well, I'm in for time skipping to the next day. We'll see what happens from there on, not much... probably. (>_>)

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

It does piss me off when that happens, yes. =_= And it happens often... There's not much we can do without GM activity, especially in this. Maybe we should just move on to the next day ourselves? Or something?

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

What do you want us to do? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not some weak puppy who awaits a GMs orders. But at this moment, that's all I can do. Unless you have an idea to get a move on with the plot, I don't see any movement happening.

*sigh*

Once again, a role play I'm starting to like, dies. Why? Because the GM has suddenly vanished into the thin air. He's/She's probably busy with real life things. But how difficult is it to get online for five seconds, and just let us know something. A simple message like; "Won't be on for X days, X has happened so I won't be able to move this plot forward."

Sorry if I sound pissed, I really am not. Although I must say I feel sad that this is just... abandoned without any notification of the GM. I'll probably wait one/two more week(s). If nothing happened after that, Game over for this role play. (Major sadface.)

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

No, it's just being really, really slow. Come on, peoples!

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Is this dead? I really hope not because I really like this one.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

lawl sorry i was swamped with work for the last while, then i had thought it had failed, and just now realized that was the old one

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

*cough cough* Dying's not good for your health, y'know. Neither are prolonged periods of silence for an RP.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Just for laughs, we should be trying to get a Giadrome skull. Enjoy the next six hours of grinding~!

(Damn you, 2%.)

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

I have absolutely no clue, but I suppose I'll find out what we're going to hunt soon. Very, soon.

Anyway, just expressing the fact that I'll skip posting. I have nothing important to note for Cassandra other then that she'll probably wave goodbye to everyone and go to her house. As I am assuming you'll time skip to the next day so we can hunt that Giadrome(?) (Definitely going to gather some information about that thing. xD) So, if you were waiting for me, no need. You can just time skip to the next day. (:P)

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

I like khezu... they look like a weird alien from the cheesy 80's monster movies.

But As it stands, Khezu would be too much for the team to handle at this point, and you have to think from the elders perspective... he wouldn't let three young people he cared about go try to fight something too strong for them. For now we'll stick to what their familiar with but we will be getting to the khezu soon enough.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Let's fight a Khezu! Except not. Because no one likes the slimy lightning dick-dragon.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Good thinking, i wanted to go with a great baggi, but that might be too much to start off with

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

I say we come across a Giadrome while hunting Giaprey. Not to hard for Rookie's to handle. Perhaps we could teach them more with the encounter.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Alright, great job so far guys, but I think we've spent too much time on this incident. Tomorrow [ic] the group will go hunting together for the first time, haven't decided on the target yet, but i was thinking something more than just Giaprey.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Posted and edited with a bit of backstory that I hope is acceptable. ^^'

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Just for the record Kalo's not supposed to be hulking or freaky muscle-y or anything, just noticeably strong like an female MMA fighter.

Re: [OOC] Monster Hunter: Legacy

Posted! Maybe after this Hari will see things differently
