SHORT STORY INTRODUCTION

There was a chuckle. It was muted and humble, rising through a dark hut in the middle of the woods. In the blackness lay a red circle carefully painted on the wooden floor. Some of the red had pooled into markings scratched on the wood while the thin strokes had already dried a dull brown. There was no light as the woman shuffled around the paint, throwing salts and rocks around the room as if she were seeding a garden. The chuckles had turned to humming until, with a clap, she stopped and turned to face her creation. In the heart of her art laid a collection of bones - some human and some not - with a human hand bent upwards in the centre, offering to take her burden. She, with a gracious smile, adorned the boned hand with an organ that still dripped red. As the droplets trickled down the bones, the woman stepped out of the circle and clapped once more. Then, with a sly smile and kind eyes, she cooed, “Rise, my dear, there are many things to do.”

PLOT INTRODUCTION

From ancient bones and a heart of the recently deceased, Miss crafts her magnificent creations. While they are considered abominations to the outside world, monsters aren’t unlike those crafted by the hand of the Creator; they too have their practical needs. Sleep, food, and socialization are all required to keep their hearts pumping. They are simply higher on the food chain than their predecessors. In turn, the human world hunts them down into either exile or death. Miss wishes to change this. Her creations need a place of belonging.

Miss has found a village that values many of the things her creatures represent: strength, power, and predatory instincts. With the right steps, her creatures could find their peace here by mixing into the current culture or replacing it. She will, with a quiet hand, watch her players make their stage.

Note that this is happening within medieval times where magic is extremely rare being seen as the devil's work. Miss uses alchemy primarily but some religious magic is present, such as 'holy water' and 'chants'; however, holy magic only effects beings that use dark magic such as witches or vampires with charm. Creatures that are entirely physical like gargoyles and werewolves are not effected by holy magic.

OOC INTRODUCTION

Story-wise we’ll begin at a meeting that Miss had made with all her current monsters about what is about to transpire. Once I’ve gotten a few monsters to join/reply and understand how they’ll make their mark, I’ll skip it like a month later to the town. From there, the story lines will diverge and take their routes. For MAJOR plot changes made by characters, make sure to note it in the OOC. Basically if they catch a monster or large beast, it should be news that would travel through the whole town and I want this role-play to be like that: where one’s actions can be seen cascading through the village. So like any deaths, marriages, births, arrivals…etc. should be noted there to keep people aware of what’s happening. Small towns gossip and so should our characters.

CHARACTERS

Miss is an off-hand mother. If she wanted to raise things, she would make babies and children. She, by choice, sees herself much more like a creator of actors whom patter around and play as they will. Their successes are her successes, and their failures are study notes. Which will you be? For creatures, just about anything goes so long as its humanoid and in the right period. Also feel free to play a human in the village. Know that if one of her creations are endangering her other creations, she will end them.

'Species' is either human or monster. At 'title' you can specify what type of monster (ie. vampire, harpy, gargoyle) or for humans, it's your job within the village. 'Fatal Weakness' is mostly for monsters but feel free to add your own as a human.

[Miss]
human - female - appears twenty-nine - witch - holy magic

Often hidden away in the depths of the forest, Miss weaves her magic webs of life and death. Her history is relatively unknown but some of her creatures may remember more. Sacrifices must be made and sometimes her memories are the price. Miss has acted as the Inn Keeper for her shack called the Old Miss Inn for a decade now, which is rarely visited. She's often found within the village to catch up on the recent gossip. She's not unwelcome in town but few trust her.

Nell

Arms wrapped around her and for a moment she forgot herself. Her sadness was blown away by the warmth of her old friend’s hug.

“Nell. I am glad to see you unharmed." He said into her ear waking her from her happy moment of blissful forgetting. He stepped back and she was embarrassed for a moment.

"Speak nothing of it, you are not at fault this night. Ahem. I am sorry about...your father.... he was, a good man." Lord Kellborne said. As if crashing down from a great height her stomach dropped like a stone. She felt a wave of nausea and desolation wash over making her eyes water yet again. She turned away from the bakery to hid her tears. The last thing anyone needed was a weeping girl. She would grieve when all was said and done.

"Nell, have you any place to stay this night? Obviously here will be out of the question, not only should a daughter not see her father as so, it is also self-evident that staying here is unsafe. Perhaps the Father would allow you sanctuary within the walls of the Lord's House, yes? Fret not, I shall be there this evening as well and provide you with protection if there is indeed villainy afoot. This I promise you." He said as he clasped her hand with both of his. Everything was happening so fast Nell could only nod silently. She had lost any will to converse though she did not fight when he took her hand in his, it was a rare comfort she did not have the willpower to decline.

Nell spotted Falastor….or at least she thought she had. A glimpse of him for a moment. She frowned unsure where he had gone. She knew he had gone to get the constable, but he was there. Where had Falastor gone? Perhaps he was done with her. She had caused him more trouble in one day than any one man could handle. She supposed she wasn’t worth the trouble. It was not as though they were together. She sighed and hoped she had not permanently ran him off with her grief.

"Hm, perhaps Biron knows more than he let on. Though I can't say why, he seemed rather in the dark about it all." The Constable said to himself.

"Biron?" Giles repeated.

"The Shopkeeper, he's the one that brought my attention to this crime." The Constable answered. "I am not familiar with that name. Well, it matters not, by the looks of those clouds the rain shall pour any second now. Best we take our leave now to find shelter." Giles suggested.

Nell shook her head vehemently at the constable. She would not let such a kind and generous man have his name smeared because of her.

“Falastor….I mean Mr. Biron was with me. We happened upon…upon” Nell attempted to force the words out. She took a shaky breath before continuing.

“We found his body together…he was escorting me to retrieve my kill…and when we came back…he was…he was just….” Her voice caught and she struggled to keep from shaking in utter despair.

As he watched what was transpiring across the street from the window of his store, Falastor felt as if his heart was being pulled from his chest. He watched as Nell approached the bakery and then as the strange man went to her. She seemed to recognize him, no, more than recognize him. She seemed to have a level of comfort with this man. Was this a lover of her's?

The sign in the window of his store would remain "closed" for the night. Falastor went to the door and turned the lock. He was not feeling well..not well enough for customers anymore. He walked to the back of the store and removed his cloak, shaking the water from it. A pain hit him suddenly in the pit of his gut and slowly worked it's way to his throat, almost choking him. In a fit of rage he put his fist through a wall. He had a feeling of blood lust wash over him.

He turned again to look out the window, now seeing the man holding Nell's hand in his. Another fit of rage washes over him, another hole in the wall. Trying to shake his head free of the anger that has overtaken him, Falastor walks to the back room of his store. He leans heavily against a wall and tries to breathe deeply. What was wrong? What were these feelings that had gripped him just now? In all his centuries of life, Falastor had felt this emotion perhaps twice. Both times the feeling was connected with a woman that he felt strongly for. He believed the mortals called the feeling "jealousy".

What a fool he had been, he thought, to think that Nell actually had feelings for the likes of him. Undoubtedly she must have sensed the monster he truly was and now her true feelings were showing as she ran to this mortal for comfort instead of him. He felt betrayed, hurt...he felt, he felt alone.

Falstor walked back to the front of the store and dimmed the lamps that had been shining. He once again chanced a look to the bakery. It appeared all parties had gone inside. He had never felt such pain. He slowly made his way to his back room and sat in silence.

Ward barely had the time to take in the scene before Giles returned. Before him, the baker's death throes were still visible on his pale face. Ward felt a knot in his chest at the sight, panic only building when he realised that Nell was nowhere to be found. Had she been killed too? Or worse, taken but whoever– or whatever– had killed her father? Dumbstruck with fear, the Father looked into the young lord's face and for the first time in his career, found himself at a loss for words.

His worries were shortlived, as Nell's voice emerged from behind. "Thank the Lord," he heard himself say. He stood on the doorstep of the bakery, slightly hidden behind Giles' large frame as the two youngsters reunited– a ceremony Ward did not want to intrude on. In the distance he could see the constable approaching, alongside the undertaker. Ward was, perhaps not surprisingly, known to them both– and recognised the distinctive step of the constable as he approached.

"You are of course welcome to the church, miss," Ward said, in return to the young lord's suggestion. He noted Nell's quiet demeanour, but decided against suspicion at this point. He was not one to dictate how women ought to grieve, even though her reactions were far different from what he was used to. "It is important, now, to be in the company of friends," he said, glancing at Giles.

Ward doubted that Nell was listening at this point. She seemed entirely distracted, but before he could open his mouth the constable was finally at the scene.

"Ah, Father Carwen, I see you are here already." He turned to see the undertaker looking at him.

Ward nodded in greeting to the man. "Awful tragedy," he said. "Hopefully our constable will be able to shed some light on the matter before the storm overcomes us."

He turned to Giles. "Take Nell ahead to the church, if you will. I wish to say some prayers for her father's soul before I join you."

Nell

"Take Nell ahead to the church, if you will. I wish to say some prayers for her father's soul before I join you." The words broke through Nell's stupor and brought on a torrent of emotions. She gasped for air and nearly fell to her knees.

"Oh...oh god...he's...he's dead....I should have been there....if i had been there...I could have saved him...." Nell's words came out quickly as a wave of guilt brought on a tide of nausea. She felt her eyes burn and her throat seemed to close. She had a hard time breathing as she felt her chest tighten. Darkness blurred the edge of her vision and she stumbled towards the bakery, her mind focused solely one one thing...her fathers rosarium.

She stumbled passed the men, and into the bakery. She dropped to her knees at his side and gently took his hand in her own shaking ones. She let the tears fall this time as she puled the rosary free of his wrist. She whispered a prayer and crossed herself as she sobbed broken for the moment.

Liz

Liz watched the scene from the shadows, amused by the humans display. She hoped none of her crowd were to blame for the death but she wasn't sure. She would have to investigate herself. She watched as Falastor retreated to his shop.

Liz followed him, making her way around to the back of his shop. She entered the shop without a second thought. She watched Falastors outburst with a frown, but did not interrupt.

"What seems to be the issue?" She asked as she leaned against the wall.

Falastor looked up from his seat as he heard the voice speak to him, "What seems to be the issue?" it asked him. Looking up, Falastor saw the figure of Lizette leaning against the wall, a smug look on her face. "What difference does it make to you, you vile creature? Doesn't Miss have you off collecting some corpse or something? Why are you bothering me, and...and how did you get in here?"

Falastor was in no mood to put up with the imp's taunting and teasing at this point. He had just seen the woman his heart ached for be taken in by another and what was worse was she seemed to want that. Falastor wondered how he had not been able to read her signs better, how he had thought perhaps she actually cared for him. It was obvious that was not the case, it was merely what he had wanted and hoped for.

Lizette

"What difference does it make to you, you vile creature? Doesn't Miss have you off collecting some corpse or something? Why are you bothering me, and...and how did you get in here?"

Lizette was taken aback by his words. Her eyes widened slightly and she frowned imperceptibly. He obviously thought her concern was just her poking fun at his misery. Well, if he saw her as a monster, she would play the part. She let her blue flames burn though her eyes, and let her horns and tail grow.

"Rude." She said quietly before she placed a amiable smile on her face and shrugged.

"You would do well to remember who you addressing." She said as she stalked towards him.

"I was instructed by Miss to request you report to her more often." Liz said as she let her cerulean eyes roam the shop.

Falastor sighs as he looks at Lizette, in no mood to discuss who holds more power and certainly not impressed with her glowing eyes, horns, or pointy tail. Throughout his life he has dealt with many a demon, werewolf, or other creature of the dark.

"Listen, Lizette it is right? I am not in the mood for this right now. You can tell your mistress that I will visit with her tomorrow evening. I am not in the mood to speak with her tonight." Falastor got up and walked to the front of the store to look out the window and across to the bakery. It appeared that everyone was now inside. He could see Nell's head move about from time to time as she moved around in the room. He sighed and turned around. "Is there anything else you need from me?" he asked Lizette.

"Lying isn't going to save your life now."

The hairs on his skin rose with the static of an approaching thunderstorm. Meryl had the knife pointed in his direction, knuckles growing white around its girth. Her forehead was shining with sweat. Malin smiled, though he knew they didn't have much time.

"You seem to be short of a hand or two," he said.

"Shut up," she hissed.

"Right, I'm sure you have a better plan. Because you surely don't expect me to be intimidated by a butter knife."

"This is a hunting knife," Meryl said, taking a step forward. "Crafted by the most talented of the Lord's men."

"Why do you have– Oh." Malin grinned. "The good Christian woman is a thief."

"Shut up! He'll understand. When I bring him your corpse– when your true form is visible on your face, then he'll understand."

"And I'm sure God forgives too."

"He forgives me, she-demon."

"Even though there are," he made a show of counting his fingers, "Ten commandments to avoid breaking, and I'm quite sure you've broken two of them just by being here with me."

Meryl was close enough that he could smell the fear on her. The knife-hand twitched when she attacked, and Malin almost felt disappointed that his first proper kill would be so inexperienced. She practically growled when his hand closed around her wrist, stopping the knife short of his ribs. Then, in desperation she swung the lantern towards his head– but he was quicker and repeated the process. The lantern-hand shook with the effort of holding back as he forced it between them, keeping the eye contact between them.

"I don't have the time for this."

"Burn in hell," she replied.

"Those are good last words," he said. "I hope you're not afraid of the dark."

Meryl tumbled back as he snatched the lantern out of her hand. The tiny hatch on the side opened, and he watched her prepare for a second attack as his breath extinguished the light. After that, he made short work of the human as his shell fell to the ground near the lamp. By the time he picked it back up there was nothing left of Meryl Burke– and if there was, Malin was the only one set to enter the stables the next morning. He picked up the lantern and said goodbye to the cows, walking across the grass towards the house as the sky grew slowly darker above. By the time he arrived in the kitchen, he had just enough time to light the lantern and pretend he'd been outside searching, before others arrived to check on him.

Sarah slept by the time he returned to their room, and nobody seemed to notice that Meryl didn't return that night. He'd report her missing in the morning.

"I, uh, hm." The Constable stood there in silence for a moment. "I'll search the area perhaps there is something around here that could tell us more." The Constable finally spoke as he moved pass the body.

"Take Nell ahead to the church, if you will. I wish to say some prayers for her father's soul before I join you."

Giles nodded as he looked over to Nell. "Best we leave now Nell before anything else might happen this night." He said as he watched her rush towards the bloodied body of her father. "Nell!" Giles called out.

"Oh...oh god...he's...he's dead....I should have been there....if i had been there...I could have saved him...."

Feeling sad for his old friend he then knelt down beside her as she cried. "Nell...I truly am sorry for the tragedy that has befallen you. But you mustn't blame yourself for this, there was no way you could have known that this would happen." He said as he laid a hand on her shoulder. He wasn't sure how to bring her out of her depression, at least long enough to escort her to the church. He then looked over to Ward. "Father, the church is still open correct? I would hate for us to arrive only to find ourselves locked outside our sanctuary." Giles asked.

Lizette

"Listen, Lizette it is right? I am not in the mood for this right now. You can tell your mistress that I will visit with her tomorrow evening. I am not in the mood to speak with her tonight. Is there anything else you need from me?" Falastor snapped.

Irritated Lizette rolled her eyes and took a seat next to him.

"I have nothing better to do than hang out with you. I dont really care if you want me to." Liz said as she plucked a cookie out of a basket and nibbled at it.

"Why do you pine after a human?" she asked out of curiosity as she watched him.

Nell stood shakily with the rosary in her hand. She brushed her eyes and attepted to straighten her demeanor. She knew she was going to have to deal with the issue sooner rather than later.

"Please be gentle with my fathers body" she murmured as she started towards the door. She stared at the ground and walked slowly in the general direction of the church.

Ward watched the Constable leave, feeling a tingle with excitement at the new development. Now that the proper authorities were present, the panic he felt earlier was replaced by an inexplicable euphoria he hadn't experienced before. The murder was horrible, certainly, but he was not staying behind just to pray for the baker's soul. He wanted to keep a close eye on the investigation, to see if it had anything to do with the vaguely ominous dreams he'd been suffering from. Prophetic dreams might be a sign of a closer relationship with their Lord than the Dean had ever had– Ward was bound to be promoted, at least after he had had many long-winded conversations with the Dean's superiors. They would have to come to him for advice. For God's word.

By the time that thought had ended, however, Nell rushed past him into the room, towards her father's body.

"Oh...oh god...he's...he's dead....I should have been there....if i had been there...I could have saved him...."

He let Giles pass him too, attempting to calm the girl with his kind words. The development was more along the lines of what Ward had expected, though frankly he thought it came at an inopportune time. He wanted to follow the Constable on his search, but he was hesitant to show his interest to the mourning daughter.

"Father, the church is still open correct? I would hate for us to arrive only to find ourselves locked outside our sanctuary."

"That's right," he replied. "I secured it from the wind with a beam, as you may remember, but it is not locked. Yourself and the young lady should be able to enter without trouble."

He looked out towards the sky.

"You may want to leave as soon as possible," he added. "The weather might become an unnecessary hinder to us all. We'll want to be safely inside before the storm arrives."

"Why do you pine after a human?" she had asked Falastor. Falastor didn't respond at first, He thought over Lizette's question. Perhaps she was right. Why did he wish for that which he couldn't have? He had fooled himself into believing Nell had feelings for him. He now knew better. When she needed comfort, she did not turn to him, she went to someone else.

Falastor shook his head. "I am not certain. I had thought perhaps she cared for me. She seemed to bring me comfort in her smile, her visits, just her being near. I, I guess I was a fool to think that I could ever find love."

Falastor put his head into his hands and muttered more or less to himself, "Why am I even discussing this with you? You must be enjoying my misery."

Liz

Liz's delicate arches shot up at his comments. Why he insisted on being so disrespectful she would never know. She wasn't sure why she cared what he thought of her. She supposed the lack of companionship aside from Miss was getting to her. She was not seeking a mate per say but she would have liked to have someone to talk to...obviously it would not be him. He cared for nothing but his human...which again she found unusual. Why did he not just take what he wanted? Instead he made excuses and pined after a woman whose life was as fleeting as smoke on the autumn wind.

"You know this is the only world where I am considered a demon. On Cerberus I am normal...as a human is here, on Zion I am what is equivalent to an angel is here, on Salayette I am a God....only here I am considered 'evil'." Liz said quietly her eyes wandering to the window where she watched Nell pass by.

"Is it not possible that I have loved and lost? Of course not, I am just a lowly 'demon'." She said quietly the pain of her own loss burning through her.

"Alas my black heart is not what we are discussing." She finished with a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"As for why I care, your part of my....herd. Your pain is my pain..." She said with a shrug.

"Have you told her how you feel? Of course not, you worry her reaction...yet you needn't worry. I have seen the way she looks at you. She is not just smitten, she is enamored with you and yet you ignore the signs." She said with a roll of her eyes. She stood and shook off her melancholy.

"Lets play a game... Since i am such an evil being..." Liz said as she started towards the door with a grin.

"Maybe ill end Nell, therefore ending your issue.... Unless, that is you can get to her first" Liz said with a laugh. With that, she disappeared.

Falastor didn't have anything personal against Lizette, he just didn't much care for demons as a whole. They too often were harbingers of doom and gloom, and while Lizette had not shown such behavior yet, he felt it would only be a matter of time. He listened to her describe herself as many other things, but Falastor's mind was clouded. Only one thought, nay, one person was on his mind at this moment and that was Nell.

"Have you told her how you feel? Of course not, you worry her reaction...yet you needn't worry. I have seen the way she looks at you. She is not just smitten, she is enamored with you and yet you ignore the signs." the demon had said to Falastor. He thought about this. Could it be true? How could Lizette possibly know? But Lizette had spoken truth if ever truth was to be spoken. Falastor did have feelings for Nell, and strong ones at that. But he did fear her rejection. And what when she found out his true nature. Would that not send her fleeing from him. He sighed to himself about ready to tell the demon these very facts when she went to the door.

"Lets play a game... Since I am such an evil being...", Liz said with a grin as she opened the door. "Maybe ill end Nell, therefore ending your issue.... Unless, that is you can get to her first." Falastor watched Nell pass down the street towards the church. The door to his store went shut and the demon was gone.

"No!" Falstor exclaimed as he rushed to the door. He would not allow the demon to lay a hand on Nell. He must reach her first, to warn her, save her, to spill his heart out to her if that is what it would take to save her from whatever demise Liz may have planned. Rushing out into the street, Falastor saw Nell a few buildings down. "Nell!" he shouted out, hoping to gain the woman's attention, "Nell, wait!"

Giles stood up, still at Nell's side, as she gave them permission to move her father's body. Giles turned to Ward as he spoke about fortifying the door but without barring it from entry.

"That's right," he replied. "I secured it from the wind with a beam, as you may remember, but it is not locked. Yourself and the young lady should be able to enter without trouble." "You may want to leave as soon as possible," he added. "The weather might become an unnecessary hinder to us all. We'll want to be safely inside before the storm arrives."

"My thoughts as well." Giles agreed. He then turned to Nell who still looks shaken up, understandably so. "Are you ready?" He spoke. "Stand close to me, alright? We'll be at the Church before long." Giles said as he turned and walked away from the bakery. He kept a slow pace so Nell could keep up without any trouble. Along the way Giles made sure to walk beside her so he can keep a close eye on her. He wasn't sure what was going on but he hoped this violence wasn't meant for her family alone.

Not to say he hopes other villagers will be targeted as well but he fears that this may have been deliberate. Of course it could have been accidental which is the best case scenario. Yet these paranoid thoughts do raise very disturbing questions as to who and why. Who would kill the Baker? Let alone for what reasons. Already this night seemed like a long one but not a bad one. Sure, the sudden death of the Baker is upsetting but being with Nell has brought him comfort at a peculiar time.

He had wanted to so much, tell Nell everything that has happened to him over the last several years. He wanted to tell her about the Capital and his training. He wanted to tell her about the sights he saw and the adventures he had abroad. He wanted to rekindle their friendship once more and hoped to God that the distance had not killed it. She seemed happy to see him and allowed him to comfort her so that was a good sign. As much as he wished to chat it would seem now is not the appropriate time. Maybe after the funeral that would most certainly take place. Then again, he isn't sure how long the mourning period will last.

Most likely well beyond the time he has left for the Trials. Afterwards he will be unable to journey back home for many years yet again. Then a thought crossed his mind, perhaps he should postpone the Trials at least until after this grim business is settled. On the off chance that someone does mean harm to Nell or even to the village, it would be the job of a knight to resolve this matter. Yes he isn't one yet but knightly duty calls to him as naturally as any other man. The Church was within his sights, they would be inside soon.

"We're nearly at the Church, we'll be inside soon alright?" He then said to Nell in a soothing voice. "And if you wish it, you can talk to me about whatever you'd like, anything at all." Giles then placed a hand on her shoulder, "I just want you to know that I am here if you need me." He reassured. It was then Giles turned around when he heard a shout. "What was that?" He spoke.

"Nell!" he shouted out, hoping to gain the woman's attention, "Nell, wait!"

He then saw someone rushing towards them in a rather frantic manner. Not recognizing the stranger Giles instinctively stood between Nell and the Man. "Nell, is this someone that you know?" Giles asked as he eyed the incoming villager.

Lizette & Nell

Lizette, having no actual intention of hurting the human woman smiled in an amused fashion as she realized she had pushed the right buttons to get Falastor to act on his feelings instead of whining. She watched as he desperately ran after her. Disgustingly romantic she supposed. She rolled her eyes. It didn’t really pay to be the protagonist but she did have orders from Miss to make sure this town properly integrated her herd, for their sake. Liz appeared to the left of the situation arising, just out of site and watched as the man who had introduced himself as Giles stepped between Nell and Falastor. She raised a delicate brow at his actions if only because this would make an interesting evening if Falastor chose to accept the unspoken challenge…of course she would have to step in because we couldn’t have the vampire killing people willy nilly.

"Stand close to me, alright? We'll be at the Church before long." Giles said. Nell nodded and took a step closer to him. She felt his heat and was comforted by it.

"We're nearly at the Church, we'll be inside soon alright?" He then said to Nell in a soothing voice.

"And if you wish it, you can talk to me about whatever you'd like, anything at all." Giles said as he placed a hand on her shoulder. She tried to focus on his words and gave him a weak smile and a nod.

“I just want you to know that I am here if you need me." He said. She had a flash of them when they were kids. They had been playing in the river. Nell had slipped and fallen, but before she could be swept away he had saved her. He had said almost the same thing to her that day…that she could trust him and he was there for her. She felt relieved realizing she was not alone.

"Nell! Nell, wait!"

"What was that?" Giles spoke as he turned.

Nell heard someone calling her name in the distance but was having a hard time focusing. The passing of her father had taken every ounce of spirit she had.

Giles stepped between Falastor and her in an attempt to protect her from him. She felt the urge to smile suddenly but couldn’t bring herself to.

"Nell, is this someone that you know?" Giles asked.

“Yes…Falastor hello, I am sorry I didn’t reach out to you when I woke” She said somewhat formally as she turned to face him.

“Giles, this is Falastor. He owns the store next to mine…he saved me.” She said as she wrung her hands and brushed a stray strand of hair out of her face.

“I didn’t mean to cause a fuss…” She said to both of them. She was tired and feeling worn down.

Lizette watched as the two men faced off. She stepped out into the light and smiled.

“Oh dear, what is all the ruckus?” She asked innocently as she approached the trio.

Falastor walked closer to Nell and the man she was with, he believed he heard her call him Giles. "Nell, please wait," said walking closer to her only to have the man step in between Nell and himself. Falastor came to a stop at this. He was in no mood to deal with this now. He needed to speak with Nell, to speak with her privately. And now, he caught glimpse of Lizette out of the corner of his eye. Time was of the essence at this point. He had no time to deal with this strange man at this point.

"Nell, I must speak with you," Falastor said looking around the man to see Nell's face. And then looking at the man he says, "In private if you don't mind, my good sir." Falastor waited for the response from either of the two when a door from the apothecary opens and Victoria comes out in her nightgown.

"What is all this noise about?" Victoria asked. Then she saw Nell. "Ahh, Nell, there you are. Are you ok, my dear? Victoria asked as she walked to Nell and put an arm around her shoulders. "Your bed is waiting for you. Come along. I also have some hot tea and more of my cookies for you to snack on before you retire for the night."

Falastor watched as Victoria took over. He looked at the man and then over to Lizette. Looking back to Nell he says, "Nell, please get yourself a good nights sleep. I would like to speak with you, but I will wait until tomorrow when you are a bit more refreshed."

Although Giles stared at Falastor he made no attempt to intrude between them, seeing as how Nell is friendly towards the man. He mustn't be all bad if Nell is on such good terms with him. It was then he looked towards Nell as she introduced the shopkeeper to him.

“Giles, this is Falastor. He owns the store next to mine…he saved me.

Giles then lent out a hand to Falastor for him to shake it. "Giles Kelbourne, Son of Eberion Kelbourne, Lord of these lands. It is an honor to meet someone who has saved Nell's life." He said respectfully. It was then the man responded but not in the way he expected.

"Nell, I must speak with you," Falastor said looking around the man to see Nell's face. And then looking at the man he says, "In private if you don't mind, my good sir."

"Oh, well...I suppose not." Giles muttered as he then turned away.

“I didn’t mean to cause a fuss…”

Giles then looked over to Nell, "Nell it's al-," His next words stopped once a voice called from the darkness. Giles then turned to see Lizette of all people appear before them.

“Oh dear, what is all the ruckus?”

"Oh, Hello again Lizette. I hope tonight's events haven't caused the bar to lose it's customers or it's mood?" He spoke with a chuckle. It was then another person stepped from out of the darkness but this time from a nearby building. He wasn't sure who this woman was either but she knew Nell as well. After Falastor made his good nights Giles then made his as well. "I shall come by in the morning and visit you as well, good night." He called out as he felt the words having a bitterness to them. How can she have a good night after all of this madness?

He worried about his friend but the woman who took her in seemed nice and gentle even though he was never acquainted. He just hoped for the best perhaps he should stick around to ensure. He then looked over to Lizette and Falastor, "Well, good evening to you both." He said as he then looked at Falastor. "It's been a pleasure to meet you, any friend of Nell's is a friend of mine." He said with a bow of his head. He then headed towards the Church when he suddenly stopped and turned around. "Wait, I best go and retrieve my retuines first, hopefully they haven't drank themselves to an early grave." He said as he headed for the bar.

Nell

"Goodnight all" She said quietly

Nell hesitated for a moment before following Victoria into her place. Her mind was fogged over so she went into autopilot, following Victoria to the room she would be staying in.
Once in bed she buried her face in the pillow and felt the tears come. She tried to quiet them with the pillow but felt as though she was failing miserably.

Liz

"Would you mind if I accompanied you back to the bar?" Liz asked as she caught up with Giles and smiled up at him. She brushed a stray strand of hair out of her face and waited for a reply.

Ward had the curiosity of an investigator, but the heart and stomach of a sheltered coward. He kneeled by the deceased, sounds of the constable working his way through the house clattering in the background. He supposed there was no harm in the man's lack of subtlety now that the baker was already dead, but he felt a cold shiver run down his spine at the idea of the murderer still lurking nearby. Ward crossed himself and put his hands together, praying hard both for the baker's soul and as a request for the Lord's guidance. As he finished his words, the first drops of rain began to fall upon the street outside, erasing any outside evidence of who might have entered the bakery, and from whence they might have come.

He returned to the church and made preparations for the guests that would be seeking shelter there for the night. The young lord and his friends were not the only ones in need, and Ward received little sleep that night as he was stuck running back and forth between the sleeping hall and the church door, providing places to sleep for the homeless, the unfortunate, and the sick.

The sun rose on a wet town, where the majority occupied their morning with the repairs of damages left by the storm. Ward had slept about an hour in total through small naps here and there. He walked shakily through the sleeping hall and outside the church, stretching as he looked out at the town some distance away. The happenings of the night before were still fresh in his mind, and he was more certain now than ever that some sort of action was necessary. A murderer could not be accepted in their midst, that much was clear. Perhaps a meeting? Yes, he decided. Later he would call in a town meeting in the church. Perhaps this was exactly what his career needed, after all.

Nell woke with a start, images of her dead father's body in her mind. She rolled over in the bed and felt tears start to burn her eyes and her throat closed. She tried to hide from the sun streaming into her window, not wanting to climb out of bed and face the world....but she knew she needed to take care of her fathers funeral arrangements.

Once she pulled herself out of bed and dressed she started towards the Church where she was sure to find the priest whom she hoped would help her make the necessary arrangements.
