Setting
- Where the hunters often find their prey - or become prey. Casualties are not uncommon. They often consider the Woods as the Trial Grounds where woman and man alike test their medal to becoming great hunters. They consist of both evergreens and deciduous trees in wide patches. This means that in the winter, the areas without evergreens become almost open plains like.
Lizette was surprised by how quickly the day went. She smiled as she felt the presence of her mistress Miss before she even walked through the door. She was connected to her in a deep way, their bond was that of master and student.
"Lizette, What's this about a new job? Was the messenger bag getting too heavy?" Miss said as she took a seat. Liz gave a small giggle as she approached the table.
"Just couldn't stay away from this town. such a jewel." She said with a wink.
"Of course I am forever and always at your disposal." Liz said with a small waist bow.
"Speaking of, is there anything I can get you? Food? Drink?" She asked with a small smile.
Nell
Nell realized it was dark, as if she was waking from a dream. She had been sitting deathly still for several hours in an oak tree. Something crackled to her left, she drew an arrow and took a deep breath. A buck, four points, large, and well fed. She was likely to be bale to feed her father, and a few others in town. She hated taking life, but it was for a good cause.
The buck took a few steps into the clearing in front of her, and tested the air. She was down wind, no way he would know she was there. She released the arrow and it thrummed through the air. The thud told her the arrow hit its mark. She heard the dying sounds of the buck as she slid out of the tree.
She closed herself down as she slid her hunting knife across his throat and blood splattered across her face. Life taken, but not for nothing. She found with practice she had the time it took her to gut and clean the deer down to an hour and a half. The moon was high in the sky by the time she was done. Her muscles ached and burned as she cleaned her blade in a creek near by.
She packed what she needed from the carcass into a satchel and started back towards the town. She heard howls in the distance and quickened her pace. She knew she was in danger because she was out so late, yet she could not come home empty handed.
Brush crackled to her left, and then to her right. She froze, aware that she was surrounded. She pulled out her bow and an arrow. Growls made her tense and fear burned through her.
