FAMILIAR
A klepto Brown Wood Owl named Autolycus, “Auto” for short. This little guy has a bad habit of snagging things that don’t belong to him, particularly if they're shiny or makes noise, so watch your valuables around this one. More than once, Mac has had to make a few awkward acquaintances while returning her owl’s ill-gotten plunder.

WAND

Aspen with Unicorn Core, 12 ½ inches, Reasonably Supple

{ Wand-quality aspen wood is white and fine-grained, and highly prized by all wand-makers for its stylish resemblance to ivory and its usually outstanding charmwork. The proper owner of the aspen wand is often an accomplished duellist, or destined to be so, for the aspen wand is one of those particularly suited to martial magic. An infamous and secretive eighteenth-century duelling club, which called itself The Silver Spears, was reputed to admit only those who owned aspen wands. In my experience, aspen wand owners are generally strong-minded and determined, more likely than most to be attracted by quests and new orders; this is a wand for revolutionaries.}

PERSONALITY
{Curious // Outgoing// Reckless // Insecure}

On the surface, McKenna is a very bright, confident, and outgoing individual who generally is well liked and gets on well with other students. She can be a bit of a clown at times, and if there is mischief afoot, one can bet she’s in the middle of it. Mac isn’t quite what one would describe as a slacker, as she maintains a respectable B average in almost all her classes, but she definitely is not living up to her potential academically. Mac’s seeming utter lack of academic ambition has frustrated her professors more than once, though that’s not to say she’s lazy. When it comes to Quidditch or any other topic that has currently caught her interest, she can be almost obsessive in her research, especially if it involved exploring hidden passages or well kept secrets. Mac is also a shameless flirt. She likes boys, and all the extracurricular activities that comes with them. While Mac had dated boys her own age, she’s always been drawn to men of an older and more mature variety, which might speak to some deep rooted daddy issues Mac isn’t willing to overanalyze.

Mac also has some serious abandonment issues, and that, coupled with her muggle born status, has left her with a deep seeded need to prove herself as a witch amongst her peers. While she might not care about grades or rankings, Mac does very much care about being good at what she does and can be extremely competitive at times. This is especially apparent when watching her duel or play Quidditch, as she is a fierce competitor and well known for her wild and arguably flamboyant style. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of flying on a broom, but couple that with the screaming cheers of the crowd after pulling off a flashy trick shot, and it’s a high that Mac can’t get enough of. Mac isn’t particularly cocky (except when talking smack with other Quidditch teams of course), but being in the air is where she feels the most at home and sure footed, as ironic as that might seem.

Amongst her friends, Mac is a fiercely loyal companion, and giving in nature. At times, this stems from a subconscious fear of abandonment, and Mac can be a bit sensitive to being stood up and even irrationally jealous at times. Mac’s need for approval however, isn’t universal. She doesn’t care what some pure blood supremacist thinks about her past the desire to whoop them in a dueling match. When amongst her friends, she’s willing to do some pretty reckless and sometimes dangerous things to get a laugh or make them happy. She also does not deal with conflict between her friends well, and Mac can suffer from some serious anxiety issues when fighting with her friends. The last time Mac had a spat with a friend, she didn’t eat for three days, which was a pleasant experience for no one. When she is upset, Mac is more prone to bottling her negative emotions than sharing, and often times will cover up bruised feelings with bravado and forced confidence. Mac generally isn't easy to anger, but she is extremely protective of her friends, and can be riled when they are being threatened.

Mac isn’t really the type of person who seeks out to be anyone’s hero. There are plenty of other people in her house who seem eager to fill that role, and she’s usually content to let them have the lime light and play second fiddle in those kinds of situations. If no better prospects are available however, Mac also isn’t the type to sit idly by if someone needs help or is getting pushed around. Having been bullied herself on more than one occasion, that in particular tends to light her fuse. Amongst her friends and well liked acquaintances, Mac will seek to entertain and have a good laugh. As an avid explorer, Mac is also likely to pull one of her friends along on one of her expeditions, as she has never really been one for solitude and is an inherently social person. When it comes to teachers, Mac can be a bit of a mixed bag. She can be a smart ass at times, and if something has exploded in class, more than a few pairs of suspicious eyes are likely to turn her way, but Mac is also usually willing to engage. As she's never been shy in the classroom about talking, if a lecture's going poorly, Mac's a good go to for participation.

QUIRKS | HABITS
✤ Restless: Whenever sitting, Mac is moving something, whether that's tapping her fingers or bouncing her leg.
✤ Expressive Eyebrows: Sometimes she just lets them do all the talking.
✤ Always Knocks on Wood for Luck Before a Quidditch Match

TALENTS | STRENGTHS
People Person: Mac is good with people. She can make them laugh, pump up a crowd, and take the heat off you in class if necessary. When it comes to talking in front of people or socializing, Mac is very comfortable.

Quidditch: Mac took to flying like a duck to water, but her real asset in Quidditch is her head for the game. Mac has always been good at quickly analysing the situation on the field and flying by the seat of her pants. She's also pretty good at working the crowd.

Transfiguration: It's always been Mac's best subject, and just seems to click with her. Mac is currently considering applying to train to become an animagus.

Curiosity: Ever since Mac learned that she was a witch, she has been utterly fascinated with the magical world. Academically, it's driven her own personal research whenever she comes across something new an interesting, which has made her a better witch. It also makes her excel at her favorite hobby, which is exploring and mapping out the secret passages all over the Orion grounds.

FLAWS | WEAKNESSES
✤ Curiosity: While curiosity is also one of Mac's greatest strengths, it has also proven to be a bit of an Achilles heel, as Mac'c curiosity has landed her in detention and gotten her in trouble for sticking her nose where it didn't belong.

✤ Astronomy: One of the few subjects that Mac just really does not get, and she struggles to get passing marks here.

✤ Competitive: While her competitive nature can be view as a strength in some situations, it has historically caused more harm than good for Mac in the past as she has a tenancy to be reckless and impulsive when this happens.

✤ Insecurity: It is difficult to pick up on the surface just how insecure Mac is sometimes, but Mac for those that know her well, they should recognize it when she starts people pleasing. When she gets like this, Mac goes out of her way to make big gestures in a subconscious effort to make herself indispensable.

FEARS
✤ Being Alone
✤ Losing Her Magic

FAMILY

Patrick James: Father-46
Renee Hoffman: Mother-42
Lori James: Half-Sister-4
Lucy James: Half Sister-4

HISTORY
McKenna was born the first child of Patrick and Renee James in a small, perfectly average, suburb of Manchester England. As a youngster growing up in this picture of normalcy, it became apparent to her parents that odd things had a tendency to happen around their child. It started out as small things, easily explained away by coincidence or the wind. As Mac got older though, the oddities became harder to deny, culminating into a full blown exposure incident at an amusement park when she was nine years old. Having gotten separated from her parents, young and frightened Mac unwittingly made them easier to find; their skin turning purple as they levitated in the air. It took the Ministry of Magic nearly a week to clean up that particular mess, but the James family finally had answers regarding years of unexplained incidents.

Patrick did not take this news well. Frightened and repulsed by the knowledge he’d fathered a witch, he first tried to get Mac to suppress her magical nature, to “just be normal!” When that proved fruitless, he left, unable to deal with the living embodiment of his world view being shattered. Since then, Patrick has remarried and had twin girls, both of whom appear to be perfectly normal. Mac has never met them, but she sends cards by owl on their birthday each year. Mac has some serious insecurities and abandonment issues stemming from her father, whom she hasn't had contact with for the better part of six years, but she tries not to take it out on her half siblings.

Compared to her father, Renee took the news much better, and while she may not really understand anything to do with the wizarding world, she tries to be supportive for McKenna’s sake. Mac loves her mother, but she has a lot of pent up feelings of guilt despite Renee never openly voicing any such blame. After the split, Mac’s mother was devastated, and dating normal muggle men with no knowledge of the wizarding world is inherently difficult for the single mother. At times, it’s difficult for Mac to feel like she didn’t inadvertently ruin her mother’s life, and that guilt coupled with the almost inescapable feeling of living in completely different worlds has created an uncomfortable distance between the two.

When heading off to school for the first time on the heels of this familial devastation, Mac initially felt very isolated in this new world. Her first year was rocky, filled with bullies and detention, but they also hold some of the best memories of her life. At Hogwarts she picked up a broom for the first time, discovered an adventurous nature she’d spent most of her life trying to hide, and made friends who feel more like her family than her blood relatives ever have. Hogwarts has always been the place she’s been able to find herself, and Mac suspects it always will be. Over the years Mac has gained a reputation as one of Hogwarts most notorious pranksters, and like many true Gryffindors before her, Mac has never met a school rule or curfew she didn’t feel the need to break.

McKenna James's Story

♦Dialogue: #d6ba13 ♦Pureblood ♦Hufflepuff ♦Sixth Year

ImageLyall returned to school and settled in easily with the help of fellow black and yellow robes. Hogwarts was more homie than home, as it was to a number of others he imagined.

Among his group's chatter and laughter, soaking up the sun while it was out, there was a high pitched squeal that rang to everybody's nearby attention. Then began the pacing students rushing to the scene that grew to a commotion. Lyall couldn't help but exchange a worrisome glance with his group before following it.

A little girl lay whimpering and still on the ground. Lyall brushed his way to the front only to turn to the inner circle and push them outward. "She needs air. If you don't know what you're doing here then leave. Accidents happen." He was sure she didn't need a spectacle made of her mistake on her first day.

Some students managed to clear out, murmuring of the event but it was only replaced by another curious pair.

ImageWith the business end done, Noah went to continue more at ease conversation with McGonagall and Bernadette when a student barged into the office. Upon recognition he noticed her as Sophia Quinlan, quite the bright student but looking sickly pale as she reported the first years' incident. Naturally, Bernadette approached her in concern and had volunteered to take care of the accident. "Noah, if you do not mind... I may need your help." She added. Noah replied with a nod and rose from his seat to join the brisk walk to the courtyard and injured student. "Not at all."

As he strode behind the two women, he scanned for the crowd that would probably lead to the first year in turn, then fixed his gaze ahead, to the rather distressed Ravenclaw girl. "Do not worry yourself Sophia. Surely by this time you know injuries and recklessness of sorts happen and can be resolved." He assured.

Noah spotted the crowd and walked a little more briskly to it. "Just back up, alright? Let her breathe." As he moved his way between students, gently guiding them aside with his large hands, he reached Lyall, guarding the girl's personal space. Noah nodded to him and squatted before the girl. "Should I get a stretcher?" Then looked Bern waiting for her call.
