Toruke Nightka

"You should know that looks are deceiving. Very deceiving."

a character in “Mutant Rivalry”, as played by Skwidge

Description

.:Name: Toruke Nightka
.:Age: 17
.:Grade: 10

School: SunShadow High

.:Description:.
Image
^The clothes in this picture are what she actually wears. Without the cloak usually.
Image
Her tail is a bit more full than the pictures, but you get the idea.

.:Personality:. Toruke is extremely reserved, and she's extremely malicious sometimes; be thankful it's capped to that much. She's smug, and has her abilities to back her up on it, and she really doesn't enjoy idiots. She won't hesitate to attack you, and she finds it very funny in scaring people with random arrows. No matter how much people think she's a heartless devil spawn, she really does have a heart. It's just... kind of buried really deep. And no one's been brave enough to get close to her. Yet. Good luck if that's what you want to do. You'll have a heck of a time. Also, she doesn't get fazed by much, and no one's out of bounds for threats. Toruke enjoys teasing. A lot.

.:Extracurricular Activity:. She hates extracurricular activity. She practices things on her own. Though, she is listed as an archery student, since she HAD to do something. She uses the practice area at night when the shadows are most keen and no one's there to bother her.
.:Mutant or Normal?:. Mutant, obviously.

Primary shift form:
Image
~She uses this form mostly for snooping around and gathering information.

Abilities:
~Has extreme precision with any long range weapons.
~Maurik's curse. This ability is used in Toruke's arrows, if you get hit, then you'll go into immediate shock, which also includes slight paralization. However, only one arrow can be used at a time. It takes time to regain the energy of this particular ability.
~ Shadow walking: Ability to use the shadows in order to mask herself for as long as energy stays up. And it only covers her up so much. She can also use the shadows in order to grab at people and hold them down. Though it's difficult to keep the focus up for long.
~Darkened Weapon: The ability to form arrows from the shadows themselves. They disperse when commanded to, though the longer they stay up, the more energy they will sap.

.:Strengths:. Toruke uses finesse and agility for energy and hiding. Her main strategy is catching one off guard, so watch it. She mainly stays in the trees, and always uses higher points for attacks.

.:Weaknesses:.
"Sorry my little ones, you'll have to figure this one out on your own. I have a few. But I'll only reveal two if it makes you happy; I don't open up to people. All of my emotions are bottled up. It's a secret pain, but I want no one to know. I also suck at hand to hand combat. But if it's knives, I'm going to throw them, and see where they lodge."

.:Other:. Toruke is extremely smart, usually skips classes, threatens anyone who pisses her off, and has deadly aim. She likes to read, and you'll come to love her ways. She's a fun one. She likes to sing when she's alone, and she actually has a beautiful voice. Though she wouldn't ever want anyone to know. Toruke practices her abilities on her own.

The figure blinked, her ears twitching as they picked up a soft rustle of bird feathers. She would have just brushed it off as being a normal bird, but this sound was off, too many. She turned, the shadows slipping over her shoes and twisting along her legs up to her knees before dispersing into the air and reappearing on the branch she was crouched on. A wicked smirk played on her face. Even better. The fem thought silently to herself, raising up her bow, her arm muscles tensing as she pulled back the well-maintained sinew, notching an arrow.

The darkness at her feet jumped up almost enthusiastically, collecting onto the arrow and trying to change it into shadows itself. The girl frowned, her eyes piercing the darkness and it dripped away from it. I can't have my energy sapped so much like that. However.... A small fang protruded from her lip as that smirk reappeared. The seeping jet-black substance then reattached to the girls arrow, and she quickly re-positioned herself. He was even so close too.

The arrow slashed silently through the air, heading straight for its target: the boy with the wings. The shadows remained steadfastly to the weapon, and it notched straight into the tree bark centimeters from his ear. The femme merely tilted her head with glee, then quickly jumped to the next tree, the branches shifting. Meanwhile, the shadows on the arrow dripped down the rough texture of the tree, amassing at the boys feet while dissolving the arrow so no evidence would be found. It began to twist along his feet, attempting to pull him into cover. The girl waited patiently, hoping he wouldn't strain against them and break the bond she was so tediously nurturing.

He was watching the people, feeling comfortable within the trees. Granted these ones weren’t his trees, they belonged to the school here; the others in the school had access to them, came and went as they pleased within the trees that circled the building. He wasn’t sure he liked the fact that others would be in the place that he felt the most comfortable. Apparently he was too comfortable in these trees as an arrow abruptly lodged itself in breaths length away from his ear. He jumped back from the tree as if it had bitten him, he took two steps back from it, keeping his eyes trained on the arrow long enough to see shadows dissolve it. He knew the difference between shadows and smoke that he let trail around at his feet. Shadows were much darker, sometimes stickier, and always more menacing. But he found comfort in them almost as much as smoke. Smoke was light, and soft, but also heavy and sometimes thick enough to choke you.

He felt a slight tug at his feet, something pulling him into the concealment of the trees. He looked down at his feet; shadows were crawling along his shoes. He complied, he didn’t mind going farther into the tree line, being in the confines of leaves and grass and plants, where things were quieter and less crowded. He brushed his hair to the side, the black strands almost immediately falling back into place, the grey strands strewn randomly making it look like smoke was crawling across his forehead. He let the scene of the people disappear from his view, just fallowing the slight tugging of shadows at his feet, leading him somewhere, but where that was, he did not know.

A smirk pulled her lips up as she noted he was coming along willingly. The shadows obediently kept pulling him along until he was into a very small clearing of sorts. Then they suddenly disappeared, the weight being lifted from his feet for now. But before she showed herself, she turned back, eyeing that other girl who was with her two previous marks. Her eyes gleamed with utter mischief, hating to see such a show off. The shadows shot up her tree smoothly and up her leg, making their way to her hands and twirling around her fingers waiting for further commands. The girl tilted her head to the side, her eyes closed in a smile. However, that smile was cruel and vicious, but still had an eerie beauty to it. The shadows immediately formed into three arrows, taking a bit more of the figure's strength, and then they shot off towards the three other students.

Meanwhile, the other darkness pooled around the feet of the boy, her strength returning more or less because she was in shade, and they pulled him a bit more; The silhouette needed to move farther away from the crime scene. She herself swiftly jumped to the next tree, making her way along with him until she found a suitable place.

Back near the field, the arrows whizzed with silent menace towards them, disappearing whenever they hit the shade of a tree or wall until making their marks. The first one lodged itself into Myran's sleeve, tacking him to a nearby tree. The second shot right into Julye's chest, though before impact, it turned into a glob, sticking to her shirt and weaving through the fibers to her skin. It would burn more like tar, but only barely. By now, the girl's strength was depleting rapidly for her amusement, and the third arrow shot itself into the ground right in front of Ariana's paw, the darkness immediately melting and shooting up her arm like a thorny vine. All this happened simultaneously, but they didn't last all too long.

The fem paused, the shadows now disappearing for good, and she settled in a tree behind him before walking along a somewhat thin branch. This branch then bent downwards, and she slipped off of it. It thwacked back upwards into place, having shaken the leaves and some falling off. She merely stalked closer to him, shifting her position and then reaching her arms out towards his folded wings, an all-too-innocent smirk plastered onto her face.

He let the shadows lead his feet; they seemed to be urging him to keep going somewhere. The slight tug he had at his feet continued until he came to a small clearing in through the trees. The shadows slid from his shoes, releasing its grasp and allowing him to freely move where he wanted. He took a quick glance around the area, noticing the area, the amount of trees, the grass beneath his feet, and the amount of clouds he could see through the smoke that fallowed above his head. He thought it was a good place to stay for awhile, it wasn’t too far from the school and he could find it easily enough later.

He was suddenly thrown from his thoughts as he heard leaves rustling and the snap of a branch swinging back into place. He tensed; not liking too much not knowing what was going on out of his line of sight. He spun around, and saw a girl, her ears were large, black tail swishing behind her. Her hand was outstretched, as if she were about to touch his wings. The feathers fluffed up to about twice their normal size, and instant reaction to being surprised. His wings themselves pulled tight against his back, he hadn’t had many people touch them before and wasn’t likely to start now.

He frowned at the girl’s expression, it was too innocent, like she had practiced it too many times, making sure there was no flaw. But that in itself made it suspicious, it was too perfect, there was always some kind tick or twitch or some type of flaw in the skin. A smile was never that perfectly innocent, unless it was on a child, which this person obviously was not. His own storm grey eyes narrowed slightly at her as he took a step back. ”Were you the one who brought me here? The shadows were yours?”

Myran

He was fallowing behind Kyren and Julye, making sure Julye calmed down enough so she wasn’t about to blow up in anyone’s face. He didn’t like too much when people were angry, it made the atmosphere itself tense and hard to breathe. He brushed his hair back out of his face when his ear twitched backwards, as the whoosh of an arrow whizzed past. The arrow neatly caught his sleeve, and flung him forward to the closest tree. The arrow hit with a thunk and stuck to the tree, making it hard for him to pull it out. He was tugging at the arrow when it started to...melt? He didn’t know what it was doing, but it stuck to him, and seeped through his clothes, to his arm, causing a white hot searing pain where it touched. He winced and gritted his teeth, it wasn’t the worst pain he had felt but it still hurt. He clutched his arm close, bending over, his head thudding against the tree.

The figure merely tilted her head, swerving around to get close to his wings once more. "Toru." She mumbled for him, saying part of her own name. Toruke chuckled, leaning in close to his face, the smoke making way for herself because the shadows pressed it down a bit. The girl nodded before reaching out again. "How come they're different colors?" The shadow-fiend gazed at them, taking in the feathers contently admiring their softness, still close to this boy's face. "The shadows have just always taken a liking to me. They're so willing...." Toruke muttered, keeping this not-so complete conversation going. "But they take up oh so much energy...."

"But what of your smoke?" She tilted her head to the side, continuing to advance towards his precious feathers, hoping to distract him a bit with conversing. She obviously wasn't going to give up. Her ears then twitched, and a smirk lit up her features. Looks like my arrows flew straight. Toru thought to herself, her eyes gleaming. "I hope you didn't mind that I dragged you over here. You just seem... so interesting."

He watched the little cat girl in front of him. She didn’t seem to be effected by his move away from her, keeping his wings pulled close to his back. She just moved closer to him, getting in his face, and looking at his feathers intently. Plus her sentences didn’t make too much sense; it was more like she was just rambling on. He didn’t know what he should answer to when she stopped talking, she asked a few questions, and seemed to want him to respond to a few of her statements.

He wasn’t sure whether to start with her first question, or her last statement. So he decided to start in the middle somewhere. ”Yes, the smoke takes energy…just when I ask it to do things.” The smoke just seemed to fallow him around; he didn’t really need to use too much energy to keep it around. He only got drained of energy when he asked the smoke to do things, to hide him, to cover the sky, otherwise it just stayed around him. ”No…I don’t mind you taking me here…I like the trees.”

He just watched the girl in front of him. He couldn’t figure out what she wanted, she seemed to be studying him, but what she was looking for he didn’t know. He kind of didn’t want to answer her question about his wings. He didn’t know the answer himself; he had always had them that way, one being white, while the other was black. He heard some of the myths going around about him from the city he was living next to, some said he was half demon, others thought he might be a fallen angel, but he knew he was neither.

Toru's ear flicked, and she tilted her head to the side before looking back towards where the school was. She smirked brightly, pleased with the initial reactions. Though her energy was getting drained fast. The fem sighed, raising her hand to her head and rubbing her temple. "Yeah, I like the trees too." She plopped down right in front of him, smiling up at him cheerfully. "Hey, do you play any sports at all?" The girl poked him in the side, her head tilting innocently to the side.

Meanwhile, over towards the others the shadows kept splitting and moving along just a bit farther. That is, until the teacher said for Toru to come out from hiding. Almost as if they could hear or understand, they left their targets to the woman. Toruke grumbled quietly, rubbing her temple once more. Urrghhh too much energy. She glanced through the trees, willing the shadows to leave, or at least come back to her. She couldn't reveal who she was to the others yet just by her amount of energy. The shadows suddenly disappeared, almost as fast as they had appeared.

She muttered something under her breath, leaning against the boy's leg. "Hope I'm not bothering you to much." Her lips turned up in another smirk and then she merely smiled at him. "Man, I think I might go exploring later." She stuck her tongue out a bit, a fang peeking out from her lips, that same mischievous glint in her eyes. "By the way, I told you my name. What's yours?"

He winced slightly as the shadows were crawling up around his arm, they hurt terribly and he wanted them off. He heard Kyren in the background telling someone to show themselves, and then he heard the rest of the elite get ready for some kind of attack. But almost as suddenly the shadows were there, they were gone, not a trace. He frowned slightly and headed back over to Julye to make sure was ok. He wanted to make sure that she wasn’t too badly hurt and to see if he could do anything to help. Kyren told him to leave, but he didn’t want to leave Julye alone, plus she slapped one hand around his wrist and refused to let go. He was willing enough to stay there with Julye, but Kyren slowly took hold of Julyes arm and pried his hand out of her grip. Then her unseeing stare went onto him and she angrily told him to go to class. He didn’t feel like disobeying the weapons master and reluctantly started trudging back to the building as Kyren lifted Julye and headed to the nurse’s office.

He watched the girl in front of him; she seemed focused on something else besides just him. Not that he minded that much, he would often go off on his own train of thought, looking like he is preoccupied with something, usually something he noticed and was thinking about intently. The girl rubbed her temple and sat down while saying that she also liked the trees. He wondered why she seemed tired, and like she had a headache. She had mentioned earlier about how the shadows took a lot of energy, she must be using them in some way for her to look so tired.

He felt a poke at his side and heard her asking him about sports. It was a strange little topic, he hadn’t really thought too much about them, but knew he would be good at a few of them if he actually joined. ”Track and Wrestling.” He knew he should be good that those two. Track was running, he could do that easily enough, and could continue running until he ran out of energy. Wrestling was fighting, without actual punching but the goal was to pin your opponent down to the mat, he was naturally stronger than most and knew he would be ok with that also.

Toru leaned against his leg and said she felt like exploring the forest latter. He nodded in agreement to her comment. ”I don’t know these woods, would be nice to check them out.” He glanced around them, looking at the trees, he knew the types, and could name them, but he didn’t know the formations, or the area. He would have to spend some more time here so he could learn the trees well.

He heard the mention of his name. He didn’t realize that he hadn’t told her, he didn’t talk much and didn’t really have to give out his name often. People who found him usually made something up, not bothering to ask what he called himself. ”Fal.” He didn’t think he had to give her the full falcon name, plus Fal alone sounded ok to him. ”What were you using your shadows for? You look awfully tired.”

"Cool, I'm more into soccer. Easy way to kick people, plus it's energetic. But that's really the only sport I'm interested in. I'm pretty good at most though." The fem spoke thoughtfully, putting her index finger on her chin as she answered. Leave out archery though, it's not technically what one would think a sport like running and such. Besides, he doesn't need to know that. Internally, Toruke was smirking, but on the outside, her entire facial expression remained the same consistently.

Then the smirk broke out neutrally as she heard his remark on the woods. "One should always know their surroundings. Gives you an extra hand when fighting or trying to escape. I don't see why we can't just go now. Other than that lame, blind, and push-over teacher saying to get to class. But I so don't feel like doing it. It's all pointless anyway, I already know most of this stuff, besides, I'm anti-social. No, I'm anti-social. Technically I'm classified like that because I've almost killed two people, and injured a few more in all of my years. Their just so bloody annoying and so uptight and full of themselves. It's music to my ears to hear them panic." And their horrified shrieks and confusion from the shadows. She smiled cheerily.

"Hmph, nice to meet you, Fal." Toru rolled her shoulders, blinking a couple of times and yawning. She then allowed her body to fall back into the grass comfortably before glancing back up to him. "Over-all happy-go-lucky mischief. Didn't you hear the delightful yelps and groans of panic and pain?" Once more she smiled at him sedately, her tail flicking behind her in the grass.

"It's brilliant, really; the way one can turn the shadows into anything, concealing them in the most perfect places. Shadows are probably one of the best elements of any of them. Except for wind. Wind you can't really control period, and the only other element that might stand a chance against it is earth. But even then." She nodded quietly, glancing back up at his wings. She then sat back up, her hands on her thighs as she leaned forward, her ear twitching. "Why won't you let me touch your feathers, Fal?"

He glanced around them as she talked. ”Yes, I guess it would be a good idea to go check everything out. And if what you say is true about the teacher, we should just go now. Not much point going into that crowded building now is there.” He almost truly hated being in tight spaces, if made him feel like he was constantly being watched and studied. His gaze caught hers when she mentioned the cries and moans of pain. ”You caused that? Interesting….and you just do that for fun?” He hadn’t bothered with people too much, them always trying to find him, it was better to just avoid people all together sometimes.

He glanced back at his wings when she mentioned how he moved from her before. ”I’ve had some….unpleasant experiences with people touching them. Just a habit now, to keep them close.” A slight shiver ran up his spine, but he gave no outward sign that it happened. Though a memory almost came across his vision, he pushed it back, though it still played, reminding him of the last time people had gotten a hold of him.

Toruke flashed him the brightest of smiles. "But of course! I hate other people, they're such pains. They think so highly of themselves, it's a pain in the butt." The fem rolled her eyes, reaching up once more to his wings. "Pretty please let me touch them?" She flashed him an innocent smile, batting her eyelashes prettily. However, she really didn't wait for permission, and merely lazily let her hand approach the feathers. She then sat up, her head tilting to the side in fascination, her fingers nearing them closer and closer.

However, she paused, glancing back up to him with a sweet smirk before running her finger slightly against one of the primary feathers, she then decided to poke her finger in between two of them a bit close to the actual wing base, slipping her thumb up into the downy fluff. Once again, she tilted her head. "Hm, well anyway, we can head out in a bit, I'm still tireddd...." She whined quietly.

He watched Toru, she seemed to feel the same way he did about people. So annoying they were sometimes, selfish and pompous and greedy. He hated that most of them saw him as a thing, something to look at and study and wonder. He was himself, had a mind, thoughts, feelings, yet they all thought he was something other than that.

He was going to tell Toru that she could touch a few of the feathers, but she already had her hand on them. Going between them almost to the skin underneath, he had done that himself before but it was always different to have someone else touch his feathers. They ruffled in response, lifting slightly, moving so her hand seemed to disappear in the fluff. As suddenly as she touched them she stopped and said she was tired so they would go exploring in awhile. He smiled slightly, and sat down, the bottom of his feathers brushing the ground. ”They should think of having some of those classes out here. Bet some of the people in there would be grateful, instead of being inside with that horrible stuffy air."
