I get the best air conditioning down in frozen foods

0 · 188 views · located in Joe mart

a character in “My fellow employees”, as played by Whiskyness

Description

Company I.D Image

Name: Paige Kessner

Age: 20

Job selected: Frozen Foods

Why we should choose you: I deal with idiotic people all the time, so the customers here should be no problem. (And just between me and you, I can do a job for half the time and expenses, but make it look like I’ve poured my heart and soul into it, great for cutting costs.)

What are our rules? No wacko tobacco, or firearms for people younger than 18, and no selling rap music to anyone who ships at our store. (Code for keep it all for myself?)

Skills: I am very organized, it’s almost OCD. I’m good at listening to orders (or at least making it seem like I am).

Gender: I’m a girl, duh.

So begins...

Paige woke up earlier than she had in the past year. She got the job, but she had to walk to it today as her car was in the shop. Rubbing sleep from her eyes she threw on the outfit she picked out the night before and covered it with the new bland Joe-Mart uniform. Seriously, who wears vests anymore? Hurriedly she grabbed her backpack off the counter and headed out the front door. After a great deal of trekking, she finally reached the oh-so-grand doors of Joe-Mart. Entering her new place of work, she looked down at the ground as she rifled through her pocket, bringing out her new name-tag and clipped it to her vest. She looked around to see if any other new employees had arrived.

While looking around she saw another man. I'm not the only one here early, she thought to herself, and watched as he smiled and said "Why hello there." Giving him her best smile, she replied "Nice to meet you." She didn't know if he was in a higher position than her, so she had to play it on the safe side and act on her best behaviour. But as he ducked inside what looked like to be an employee lounge, she realized that he was just a co-worker. She could act like a normal human being around him then. "Coffee?" he offered when he returned. "I could go in and get you one." he said with a laugh.

"Sure." she grinned and took the coffee he held in front of her. Her body relaxed as her hands cupped the warmth of the mug. "Thanks." Paige managed to say before taking a big sip. "I'm Paige, frozen foods." She explained and pointed to her name tag. "And you are?" she asked, raising the corner of her lips as she continued to drink the delicious coffee.

Ashton was already up today, even though it was only early morning. She was walking on the sidewalk on the way to Joe-Mart, her new working place. She wasn't wearing her uniform for the job, but she wasn't going to be actually working yet either. She'd applied for the job as a night cleaner and she'd gotten it right away. There's probably not that many who wants to work at night, but for Ash it was the only choice she had.
As she got inside the supermarket, she looked for an office of some kind. She needed to get her keys to the building, as she was the one who was supposed to lock and close the whole store tonight. Instead she found what looked like an employee lounge and decided to ask the people inside.

"Uhm, hi..." she said carefully and waved at the two employees in the lounge. "Do you know where.... uhm, where I can find... the boss or something?" she asked and smiled nervously. "I need some keys."

Sam skipped in, grinning like the mad woman she was. She didn't need to clock in or anything! Her. Job. Was. A-MAZING! All she had to do was scream at people and act bananas! Not too hard to do, is it? She saw the people in the lounge and walked over, wanting to introduce herself. She popped her head in, smiling polietly. "Hello! 'Tis my first day on the job an' my name's Sam. Nice to meet ya'll." She paused for a moment. "I'm the new Joe 'round here so if I'm acting.. well... crazy, don't mind me!"

Paige looked up from the rim of the coffee cup when two new people walked in. "Do you know where... uhm, when I can find... the boss or something? I need some keys." the first girl said who wasn't wearing a uniform. Shaking her head Paige frowned "Sorry, I just got here a few moments ago, I've never met the boss." she admitted. The second girl was also not in a uniform, and introduced herself as the store's Joe. "Nice to meet you both, I'm Paige." she took another sip of coffee and let out a breath. "Are you going to dress up like a homeless cat lady?" she asked Sam with a hint of amusement in her voice.

Sam laughed, grinning. "I was hoping to, yeah! Maybe the boss'll let me. By the sound of it, we've never seen the boss. Any of us, right?" She asked with a sense of mystery. What kind of boss doesn't introduce themselves to the new workers? She shook the thought from her head. "Anyways, I'm gonna go look for the govna'. See you folks 'round." She nodded polietly and left the room, the thought of her dressed up as an old cat horder still making her grin. Walking around for 10 minutes, she saw no sign of the boss or anyone in charge. Maybe they could just party all day!

"Uhm, do you mind if I sit down?" Ashton asked and pointed at one of the old ugly couches, even though she didn't care about their answer. "See you folks 'round." the cat lady - what was her name? said and left with a big grin on her face. Ashton couldn't help laughing at the woman. "Interesting person..." she mumbled and then sat down without waiting for the other two to answer her question. She glanced at the guy, he was quite handsome actually, and read his sign. "So Andy.... what humiliating job did you get then?" she asked and smirked slightly.

After Andy shook her hand, he abruptly left the room seemingly to go after Sam. Paige sat down on the floor, though she was tempted to climb up onto one of the bunk beds. Not soon after Andy left the room another man entered it, smiling and raising his hand, saying nicely "Hello." She set down her empty mug and waved back at the new man. "Hey, I'm Paige and that's..." she paused and glanced over at the other girl's name tag. “Ashton." She looked down at her own nametag and thought it looked rather... plain. I'll have to decorate it will something later tonight, she thought to herself, isn't that what you're supposed to do with nametags?

Standing again she scooped the mug off the floor and wondered where to return it, deciding to place it on one of the boxes and she would ask Andy about it later. "I'm going to go and find out where the frozen foods section is, cuz' that's where I'll be working. Anyone want to take a walk around the store with me?" she offered, looking around.

Following the girl with his eyes, Dalton noticed that he wasn't the only one unfamiliar with the rest of the party. They must have just met, seeing as she had to look down at 'Ashton's' nametag before speaking her name. Well, it made him feel a bit more comfortable now that he knew he wasn't the only one not completely familiar with the setting.

She asked if anyone wanted to go with her, which he gladly accepted mostly because he was probably the only one who knew the area. He'd have to thank his strolls around the place for that. "Yeah, I might as well go with you." he said with his same smile.

"Yeah, I might as well go with you." the new man said. She walked up to him and looped her arm into his, not caring if he found it uncomfortable. She felt like skipping, and hopefully he could keep up a pace that would allow her to do so. With a gentle tug she pulled him along, "Great, it's always fun to go with a buddy." she commented happily.

Paige began to pick up her feet and made little skipping-movement, hoping she wouldn't trip or something, and set off in the direction she thought the frozen foods might be. "So, I told you my name, but I haven't heard yours." she said coyly and smirked up at him.

"So, I told you my name, but I haven't heard yours." she said coyly and smirked up at him.

"Oh, it's Dalton." he answered unsteadily and briefly dropping his smile. Normally, kids or girlfriends looped their arms around someone elses, but as far as he was told, Paige was neither. Oh well, not like he was complaining. I mean, who would?

She didn't seem to be one to waste time walki--skipping, so he went along and picked up the pace a bit. However, he had to redirect her as she headed off in the wrong direction if she was headed towards the frozen foods, although the thought of not telling her did cross his mind. About halfway through a wierd walk-skip motion that he was doing, he decided to speak up.

"So... you seem rather... happy. Do you really like this job? Should I have your enthusiasm?" his smile just now recovering after the earlier surprise.

She was glad Dalton had come along, noticing when he redirected her when she was going the wrong way. "So... you seem rather... happy. Do you really like this job? Should I have your enthusiasm?"

"My last job was in a factory. Long shifts, bad hours, and horrible working conditions. This is an upgrade... kind of." She looked up at the ceiling-signs and saw the 'Frozen Foods' section, and she slowed down her skipping until she was just walking. "A job is a job, I just feel good about today, though I'm sure the daily grind will get tiring eventually and we'll all be sour workers in no time." she half-joked, looking down the aisle they just passed.

"Also," she continued, "I'll be in the frozen foods during summer, so I won't get hot. And I don't think I'll have to work too hard, because how often does someone need help in the frozen food section?" Paige herself had never needed help, she figured she'd be in charge of clean-up and organizing her section, and the rest of the time she'd either be doing another task or chilling in the lounge. “You can have my enthusiasm if you want.” She laughed.

"You won't be hot, you say? Well, I don't agree with that...." he flirted...or just complemented, he wasn't sure. However, he was happy to know that she wasn't just happy and that she wasn't insane. He heard that people who were this happy all the time for no reason were..... unfit. But, she didn't seem so, and that made him a bit more open.

"As long as people don't get into brawls often, I'm sure my job may be just as easy." he stated, giving a light chuckle. "However, if somebody gives you grief, just call for me, and I'll show them the door....or my foot. Depends on the situation."

Finally noticing the cooler air the surrounded the area they just entered, he shuddered. Dalton, originally hailing from the Grand Canyon State, wasn't as used to cooler temperatures and was rather vulnerable to them. That did not mean he didn't like them; he just reacted moreso to them. "Hmm, I hope you like the environment, I sure do." he added, looking around for no real reason.

"You won't be hot, you say? Well, I don't agree with that...." her cheeks reddened at his comment and she grinned, looking down at her feet while her face returned to it's normal shade before returning her gaze to the surrounding aisle. She reminded herself that her arm was looped around his and her grin widened.

"However, if somebody gives you grief, just call for me, and I'll show them the door....or my foot. Depends on the situation."

"I'll defiantly be calling you if I need a strong man to help me, or if the frozen food section gets boring and I need someone to keep me entertained." she raised one of her eyebrows playfully and continued to smirk. She shivered when the cool reached her, but she enjoyed the cold compared to the hot temperatures the outside would reach by the afternoon.

"I'll defiantly be calling you if I need a strong man to help me, or if the frozen food section gets boring and I need someone to keep me entertained."

"I won't mind that one bit." he commented, taking a deep breath. "Colder air smells...fresher." he explained as he kept a grin on his face. The fact that she blushed earlier meant that she didn't necessarily hate him. That was good. Then again, the looped arm probably wouldn't be happening if she hated him in the first place. THEN AGAIN, why would she hate him? They just met.

"I don't think I'll be too busy at daytime, so don't be afraid to pull me away." he reassured...for him or for her though? Probably one of his bigger fears is that he'll be stuck doing nothing with no one the whole day.

"I won't be afraid to. I have a feeling the first week might be a little slow." Paige surveyed the foods that were in the aisle, there were a lot of things like pizzas, burgers, fries, and nuggets around. "I think working with food might be a problem if I get hungry during a work shift." she mumbled half to herself.

She took in a deep breath and exhaled through her mouth, watching to see if it would make a puff. "I'm just waiting for when I will be able to see my breath... so I can pretend I'm a dragon or something." she laughed and attempted it again, not seeing anything.

She may have to bring a sweater here eventually, just in case it got too cold. She hoped that her immune system could take it or else she might be taking a lot of sick days because of colds.

"I won't be afraid to. I have a feeling the first week might be a little slow."

"True... though I'm sure food is very, very interesting. I doubt you'll be bored." he said in his obvious sarcastic tone. He only barely heard her comment about hunger during her shifts. "Well, seeing as I've got a bit more flexibility than you do, not having to be an any one place, I can bring over some smaller things for you, if you're hungry." he offered.

After some heavier exhaling that sounded not unlike someone trying to give birth, Paige explained herself.

"I'm just waiting for when I will be able to see my breath... so I can pretend I'm a dragon or something."

As she attempted it once more, he gave a laugh in response. "I remember doing that when I was younger. I haven't done that in a while though, so..." he inhaled deeply, then exhaled just as she was doing. Nothing came out except the noise from it. "Hmm, maybe when it's colder?"

"Well, seeing as I've got a bit more flexibility than you do, not having to be in any one place, I can bring over some smaller things for you, if you're hungry."

Paige stopped her strange huffing to reply, “That would be awesome.” After he tried to repeat her actions she tried once more before stopping. “Yeah, hopefully it will get cold enough for me to do it, though I doubt the store would have the temperature down that low in case they freeze the customers.” She speculated.

She glanced around a second time and frowned, turning back to Dalton. “Well I don’t know if there’s much I can do so far, so I’m either going to go back to the lounge or take a tour of the place. What do you think?”

“Yeah, hopefully it will get cold enough for me to do it, though I doubt the store would have the temperature down that low in case they freeze the customers.”

Dalton looked towards the frozen foods with longing eyes before sighing. "I guess not... oh well...." he wouldn't have minded that one bit; if a costumer was there long enough to turn into a human popsicle, they weren't buying but staring. However, Dalton was regretfully not the manager of the place, so he couldn't do anything about it.

“Well I don’t know if there’s much I can do so far, so I’m either going to go back to the lounge or take a tour of the place. What do you think?”

Dalton looked at her for a minute and put a bit of thought into the question. He snapped back to reality before answering with a yawn following quick after. "A tour? Well, I can be a guide if you'd like to do that... or we could go back to the lounge. Whichever is fine by me, really."

"A tour? Well, I can be a guide if you'd like to do that... or we could go back to the lounge. Whichever is fine by me, really." Dalton said after a yawn, and for a brief second she wondered if she was boring him.

Though, she was grateful for his friendly attitude and replied swiftly, "Maybe a short tour around and then back to the lounge." She knew if she went back to the lounge she would be drawn to the couches like a magnet, wanting to have a quick cat nap. But whenever she rested during the day it would just set her off somehow, like if she slept in. Paige put her hands behind her back and clasped them together, flexing her shoulders briefly before returning her hands to the side. "Thanks for offering to be my guide." she said a pause, almost forgetting to say it. Just as she was about to ask which ay they should go first she could feel her phone vibrate in her pocket. Paige was used to it, so she didn't react; she thought it would be rude to look at her phone while having a conversation. Besides, she was on the job, which meant no more social fun... or at least until she had made sure there were no camera's watching. What would her new boss think of her?

"Don't stay up late before a job," Dalton spoke in regards to his yawning. He may or may not have gotten less than five hours of sleep, and was now regretting it somewhat.

"Maybe a short tour around and then back to the lounge."

"An awesome combination," he said as he shook his head in an effort to wake himself up. He wasn't anywhere near falling asleep while standing up, but he just felt like he wasn't completely 'there'.

"Thanks for offering to be my guide."

Dalton smiled in response, appreciating her thanks more than she probably knew. "Don't worry about it," he said, about to speak more before being cut off by her phone ringing. He waited a second, and when it became clear to him that she wasn't going to answer it, he started back where he left off. "I think we should start off by heading by electronics," he suggested. "It's one of the closer sections to here,"

Without really waiting for a response, he started towards the place and begun the tour.
